PostMU: Life's a Scream! is an Original Character (OC) - Author Avatar Monsters University fanfiction by Cartuneslover16, with additional ideas and concepts co-written by Victortky.

This fanfiction focuses on the author's OC named Laura Sharp, who transfers from the rival university Fear Tech in the wake of the events of Monsters University, and finds herself in a whole new world while trying to adapt to life in MU. The Fanfiction focuses on characters of the film, as well as shedding new light on the various fraternities and sororities in the eponymous school. In addition, it focuses on the relationships between the various Oozma Kappa Fraternity Group members and their love interests, who are also Original Characters. There are also expansions on the various characters' relationships with each other, such as Naomi Jackson's interest with Terry Perry, and Randall "Randy" Boggs's life and relationship with Roar Omega Roar after the events of University.

Not only does the Fanfic features the return of many monsters from both Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University, a host of brand new monsters are also introduced. Continuity Nods, hints and references to both Inc. and University can be found, as well as cameos/mentions of some of Pixar's famous characters from other animated films. There would also be many references from a variety of other sources as well, from music, movies, television shows, cartoons and more.

The author has also mentioned that the story will later shift to the future which is Monsters Inc., and possibly even Post-MI.

The original chapters can be found on Cartuneslover16's DeviantArt website: Link, and the story can also be found at Fanfiction.net The former updates faster than the latter.

"Every monster has that special something." - Fillmore Sharp, renowned Scarer at Monsters Inc.

This fanfic contains examples of:

    open/close all folders

    A - C
  • Abhorrent Admirer:
    • Stephanie Dallmar to Johnny Worthington.
    • Theo "Turbo" is this to many Monster Girls due to his rude "flirting" acts toward them.
  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer: Sewer 14. It is essentially an obstacle course which is chosen to host the first event of the Scare Games. It is also Art's favourite Sewer in the entire campus.
  • A Day in the Limelight: And interesting case; each chapter doesn't actually focus on one particular character but several at once. Listing each character for each individual chapter would be rather time consuming, especially given the long length of each chapter.
  • A Death in the Limelight: Averted in Chapters 5 and 6, where Terri and Terry Perry got themselves seriously injured and were sent to the Emergency Department, and their condition was stated to be (quoted) critical condition beyond critical. Chapter 10 reveals that the emergency surgery that they had was to put them in 2 separate bodies because otherwise they would have died.
  • Aerith and Bob:
    • We have the usual fairly normal names such as Mike Wazowski, James P. Sullivan, Claire Wheeler, Randall Boggs, Terri and Terry Perry etc. But we also have names like Dean Abigail Hardscrabble, Brandywine, Scott Squibbles, and Celia Mae.
    • To give examples from the Fanfiction itself, we have Colette and Monroe "Monnie" for the former, Laura, Darla "Dot", Katrina "Katy" for the latter.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Archie the Scare Pig is named Archibald Sharp by Laura, who is also his caretaker.
    • Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton tends to address Dean Hardscrabble by her first name, which is Abigail.
      • For that matter, she also calls her boys, including Mike and Sulley, her "little Oozmas."
  • Affectionate Parody: Mainly of the college fraternity movies in the 1980s, as well as modern college movies in the 2000s.
  • A Friend in Need: The whole University is this for the Perry twins, as seen in Chapter six, when they all waited for news on the twins outside the hospital as well as giving "get-well" gifts for both of them.
  • A Lady on Each Arm: Terri and Terry Perry have a scene like this in Chapter 5, with Terri being the one more enjoying the romantic attention he's getting.
  • All-Ghouls School: Well, more like "All Monsters School", but the title pretty much says it all. Monsters University, duh.
  • All of the Other Reindeer:
    • Averted for young Laura Sharp, especially at the prologue of the story. Male monsters actually quarrel among each other to ask her to partner up with them during the field trip to Monsters Inc. However, based on what little we know so far, the trope is played somewhat straight for Laura's time at Fear Tech, mainly because she isn't the sociable type.
    • Played completely straight with the Perry twins, who were shunned and bullied by their classmates in high school and early years in MU. This served as a major contributor to a lot of Terry's current emotional problems.
  • All There in the Manual: Much of the nuggets of information about the various fraternities and sororities are derived from the official Monsters University website, the Monsters University Year(Fear)Book and Official Essential Guide, as well as art of the film and the Official Magazine. Examples include Dean Hardscrabble's past as a sorority member of Eta Hiss Hiss (HSS), Terry Perry's love of drinking out of China Cups and Terri's adoration of the BLORT drinks, just to name a few.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents:
    • Squishy's mom, Sherry Squibbles as usual. Now Sherry Carlton, as she has been married to Don Carlton in chapter one. Heck, in her first scene for the story, Mrs. Squibbles ran up to Dean Hardscrabble in front of the whole university, grabbed the latter's hands and asked the Dean of Scaring to be her Maiden of Honor for the wedding. She even asked the Eta Hiss Hiss (HSS) Sorority to be the bridesmaids... and saying that the girls seemed like 'such an adorable little group'.
    • In Chapter 6, she hugs the Dean in front of the whole university.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: This being the monster world, it is a social norm.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Fear Tech's mascot, Archie the Scare Pig, is an excellent example.
  • Amusing Injuries:
    • What pretty much happened to Dot, Katy, Colette and Monnie on the first day due to Laura Sharp's Crash-Into Hello when she tries to dash to her first Scaring Class on time... by flying. Happens to them again when Laura tries to capture Archie when he gets loose into the campus.
    • Coming in contact with the new and improved EXPLOSIVE poison urchins for the scare games in chapter 4 causes the affected spot to swell up massively, just like the regular urchins from the film proper. Some of the monsters in the first RENEWED Scare Game emerge looking like balloons.
  • Angel Face, Demon Face:
    • Laura Sharp. Her angel face is when she conversing with her friends and the Oozma Kappas. Her demon face is when she's pushed over the edge. A good example would be in chapter 5, where she revealed her demon face when she was calling Sulley out on his arrogance.
    • Terry Perry could give Laura a run for her money. His angel face is his normal laid-back and relaxed state. His demon face is when he's pushed far over the edge like in chapters 4 and 6.
    • In chapter 4, we see a bit of Randall's demon face with regards to Sulley.
    • In a series of nasty nightmares in chapter 10, we get to see both Perry twins' demon faces as well as Carla's towards Johnny. All 3 demon faces shake those who see them very badly and prompt decisions to make massive changes in behavior, though Johnny's journey is slow.
  • Antagonist in Mourning: Johnny Worthington with regards to the Perry twins, but he wouldn't admit it. Definitely the case as revealed in chapter 7; Johnny sneaks a gift consisting of a electric guitar and drums for the Perry Twins. What his intentions were for this gesture remains to not be seen.
  • Anywhere but Their Lips: Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton does this to the members of the Oozma Kappa Fraternity, calling them her "Little Oozmas".
  • Apologizes a Lot: Laura Sharp. She always apologizes profusely during her panic attacks in Chapters 3 and 5.
  • Arc Words: "Every monster is special.", coined by Laura Sharp's father Fillmore Sharp, who is a renowned Scarer at Monsters Inc.
  • Aren't You Forgetting Someone?: Claire Wheeler mentioned this to Laura Sharp when they saw Colette (who has fallen off Laura due to her being distracted by George Sanderson) being left behind in the explosive toxic urchins obstacle course.
  • Armour-Piercing Question: In chapter 5, during Laura's stern conversation with Sulley, she asks how does she not know if Sulley is just using Mike to attain his own goals.
  • Ascended Extra/Adaptation Expansion: Many of the minor characters from the film, most notably the other fraternities and sororities, have much more prominent roles in the story. Showing their individual interests, relationships, and regret over their previous treatment of Oozma Kappa (sans ROR of course).
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The Librarian, who is known as Margaret Gesner in the MU Fearbook, is actually a giant 50-foot tentacled monster and if you make too much noise in the Library she will throw you out with her tentacles. Literally.
  • Author Appeal: To put it in Cartuneslover16's words herself:
    • My first-ever MU story. Trust me, long before the movie even premiered, I had been a fan SO true to the MU. I'm obsessed with it, actually.
    • The main heroine, Laura Sharp, is Cartuneslover16's personal OC.
    • The author has an adoration for the Perry twins, so they're some of the story's more central characters.
    • The author has also personally preferred Squishy Squibbles/Carlton than to Johnny Worthington.
    • Due to the lack of screen time for the various fraternity and sorority characters, and the fact the author has loved quite a number of them, she wants to show their individual personalities and give them more expansion than what they are "written" with.
  • Autobots, Rock Out!: Monroe (AKA "Monnie") basically does this during Exceeda Zeta's Initiation Ceremony.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis:
    • Mike's main ability. He's extremely good at finding ways to use the environment to his and his friends' advantage.
    • Laura's ability to utilize her surroundings, shadows and distraction tactics to sneak through the entire Scare Floor to get to her (supposedly) father's designated child's door in the prologue. She has sure put her father's teachings to good use.
  • Badass Boast:
    • We have one in Chapter 2.
Johnny Worthington: Hey, I'm just saying a girl such as Sharp herself seems worthy of only the best.
    • Another from Chapter 6. By Terry Perry of all monsters.
“And if you ever, I mean, ever talk about Mike or Sulley that way again...I will take you down!”...“You hear me? I will tear those stupid horns off...! Shove them under your tail...! Jab them in your eyes...!”
  • Bad News in a Good Way: In chapter 6, the Perry twins were revealed to be in stable condition but severely injured by the blast in the Science Labs. Chapter 10 reveals another scenario of this where it's revealed that, for the twins to survive the science building accident, the doctors were forced to separate them completely. Otherwise, they would have both died.
  • Band of Brothers: The Oozma Kappa Fraternity is the king of this trope. JOX Fraternity also fits this trope very well too.
  • Bear Hug: We have a few examples.
    • Brock Pearson gave one to Laura in Chapter 5 at the JOX party event.
    • The Perry twins also gave one to Mike in a flashback in Chapter 6 when Mike and Sulley are reunited with the OK Fraternity.
    • The Perry twins again in Chapter 10 when they wake up and discover they've been separated, likely permanently.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Sadly averted for some scenes in the story.
    • Averted for Chapter 4's Toxicity Challenge of the Scare Games, due to the New and Improved EXPLOSIVE Toxic Urchins.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In Chapter 5, Terry Perry (in a fit of anger) stated loudly that he wished that his and his younger would be separated due to their differences and arguments, resulting in the explosion in the science labs that left them critically injured. At the end of Chapter 6, we see the horrifying possibility of the Perry twins possibly separated while they were undergoing emergency operation within the Emergency Department of the hospital. In Chapter 10, we find that they have been separated and Terry is visibly distraught.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension:
    • Johnny Worthington is clearly attracted to Laura, and is constantly flirting with her. However, Laura just deals with his presence while feeling slightly uncomfortable.
    • Naomi is especially romantically attracted to Terry Perry, and pretty much every single scene of her with him is this to a unnerving degree.
  • Berserk Button:
    • As Sulley learned the hard way, arrogance and claiming that no monster is capable of scaring are NOT things Laura will tolerate.
    • Do not EVER insult anyone Terry Perry cares about or you will get a very scary "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
    • Naomi becomes this to Terry Perry due to ROR's prank and a previous bad experience with a clique similar to PNK led by a girl he loved in the past that ended up tearing his heart to shreds. Whether or not he will keep this up remains to be seen.
  • The Bet: Chet and Brynn has one in Chapter 5, when they both bet on if Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton can beat Javier in a game of Ping Pong. Mrs. Carlton, and Brynn by extension, end up winning.
  • Betty and Veronica:
    • According to the author, Katy (Girl Next Door) and Colette (the exotic and sensual) fit this Trope.
    • It's also the case for the Laura Sharp love situation, with Laura (the Archie), Squishy (the Betty), and Johnny (the Veronica).
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • Terry Perry can be a good-mannered and friendly monster just like his brother, but if you ever insult anyone close to him or someone he respects and cares about very much, be prepared to receive an epic and damning "The Reason You Suck" Speech from him (and depending on the circumstances, like Johnny Worthington in Chapter 6, a beating as well).
    • Laura is perhaps one of the sweetest monsters you'll ever met, but help your soul if you're an arrogant jerk who thinks that other monsters can't be scary.
  • Big Bad: Johnny Worthington III from the Roar Omega Roar (ROR) fraternity is shaping up to be one like in the original movie. Might be averted as Johnny seems to be reluctantly showing a heart as shown in Chapter 7 with his gift to the twins and Chapter 10 sees him starting to wrestle with his morality after a nasty dream called his actions into question.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Zigzagged with Terry Perry. He's almost insanely protective of his frat brothers but tells his own twin essentially "I Wish You Were Dead" over a spat about Terry's treatment of Naomi Jackson.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Gender-inverted; Nadya Petrov acts as this to Naomi Jackson in their Odd Friendship, despite being from different sororities, constantly giving her encouragement and comments (as well as a listening ear) to help Naomi gather up her courage to win back Terry Perry's heart.
  • Big Eater: Laura Sharp is shown to be one. One student in chapter 2 even commented that she probably can eat more than Big Red.
  • Big Entrance:
    • Laura when flying to her first Scaring Class. She literally crashed through the door of the Scaring Class, startling Professor Knight and the University students.
    • Dean Abigail Hardscrabble loves this trope to death. In her first appearance in the story, she cast a shadow over Professor Knight as she entered through her personal doorway, staring down at the entire Scare class. Then in one swift motion, she swooped down and retracting her large wings before she gracefully landed beside the professor, bringing all students in the room to attention. And then checking her recently replaced Scare Canister by the statue bust of herself. Dean Hardscrabble's entire entrance, as usual, leaves no room for discussion about her credentials as a Scarer.
  • The Big Guy: Big Red of the JOX Fraternity is this. He has the strength of ten oxen, according to other students.
  • Big "NO!": In chapter 11 part 2, when Carrie asks if she could cook for the twins' return home party, everybody around her immediately says no.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Terry Perry towards his younger sibling when Terri brings up the topic of Naomi trying to get the former's attention and forgiveness. He gives another one to Johnny in chapter 6 after he, yet again, insults Mike and Sulley. A very big one that managed to get the attention of the entire school.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Done twice by Claire in Chapter 7, first when Katy tells her that she'll sneak into the hospital to see the twins, and later after Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton mentions OK's earlier sneakout at Monsters Inc.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Dot likes peanut butter and hot dog sandwiches, using the combo in the same fashion as most people would peanut butter and jelly in Chapter 11 Part 2. Carrie too since she expresses a wish to try said combo.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Terri in chapter 4 tells Naomi that his brother is not available, which is incredibly awkward, considering that the twins are conjoined.
    • Laura saying that she's "okay" after her panic attacks. It's obvious, especially in later chapters, that she really isn't.
    • Squishy denying his attraction towards his secret crush on Laura.
  • Blind Without 'Em: Downplayed with Randall Boggs; he can still see without his glasses, but he needs to squint in order to see clearly.
  • Break the Haughty:
    • Terry Perry does this in chapter 6 by giving Johnny Worthington a truly epic "The Reason You Suck" Speech in front of the whole University, which is made worse for Johnny when Dean Hardscrabble comes to Terry's support by telling that Mike and Sulley are still welcome in MU and that Oozma Kappa will be joining the scaring program.
    • Though he was already reformed at the time, Laura manages to shed some light on Sulley by calling him out on his arrogance in the past.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • Terry received a particularly bad one by a female monster named Merida Malicestorm that controlled a classic high school bully clique. The clique resembled PNK (albeit they were A LOT meaner) and pulled a prank on Terry specifically in a Carrie-like fashion that traumatized him and clearly shattered his perception on romance. This prank also resembled ROR's prank during the movie, which implies that ROR's prank angered him so bad that it re-opened the wound.
    • Laura is hinted to possibly have something happen to her in the past that had a lasting effect on her in the form of anxiety attacks.
    • By Chapter 10 Naomi has been hit with this hard in regards to her romance troubles with Terry Perry and she is not coping with it well. Not only did she receive a massive "The Reason You Suck" Speech by Terry in the library but in Chapter 10 she received this from both twins in the nightmare that Pyapi implanted in her mind. At this point she is a Stepford Smiler approaching suicidal levels of depression from the guilt and pain over Terry.
  • Breath Weapon: Laura Sharp, being a draconic-type monster, can breathe fire, as demonstrated in the Prologue and Chapter 3.
  • Brick Joke: The Slug Student, aka Theo 'Turbo' in this universe, is still very slow in getting to his destinations.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Roar Omega Roar is this Randy, who becomes so disillusioned with how the RORs aren't the "cool kids" he made them out to be due to them pressuring them into taking part in the prank to humiliate OK and looking scornfully on his baking skills and glasses that he bitterly tells them he no longer wants to be with them when they offer him back his position in their fraternity.
    • The entirety of Monsters University briefly became this for Terry, who was so embittered by the level of scorn and ridicule directed at Oozma Kappa since their founding that he was hoping to convince his frat brothers to transfer out of MU to start over with a clean slate at Fear Tech. Fortunately, it becomes a Subverted Trope when he and his friends attend the apology party thrown at the JOX frat house by the rest of the Greek community, upon which Terry forgives them for all the grief they caused OK and accepts them as his friends (barring the girls of PNK, however).
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center:
    • Big Red is portrayed as one, being tough and bold on the outside while soft and tender on the inside. Heck, the whole JOX fraternity qualifies, as they're all really kind and caring Monsters behind their bulky exteriors (George may be an exception since he doesn't seem to be the type of guy who enjoys fighting like the rest of his fraternity).
    • Rosie Levin displays this trait several times throughout the story, such as managing to shed a tear in chapter 1 during Sherry and Don's wedding.
  • Call a Smeerp a "Rabbit": M.U.'s rival school, Fear Tech, has a mascot named "Archie the Scare Pig", who is bright orange. Interestingly, he seems to be mix of both pig and goat- he has a pig's snout, tail and squeal, but his horns, shaggy coat and rectangular pupils are all rather goat-like. He can also bark, though it's explicitly stated that it's a trick Laura taught him.
  • Call-Back: Enough to warrant its own page.
  • Call-Forward: Being an interquel between the two movies, there are quite a lot of these moments especially the "Scary Feet" moment.
    • When Randall [[spoiler:accidentally vanishes into thin air leaving his OK fraternity sweater when Sulley bumped into a display cabinet in the OK fraternity house, it brings to mind his first meeting with Mike and his vanishing skill in the first film.
    • Randall still has the "squinty eyes" throughout due to his "ditching of the glasses" early in the Monsters University film, which is the precursor to his formerly scary expression in the first film.
    • In Chapter 5, Mike's training program for Oozma Kappa is similar to the training he had done with Sulley in the first film.
    • Roz, the Director of the CDA, makes an appearance in Chapter 6 at CDA High Command reviewing the energy crisis and taking special interest in Monsters Inc, which foreshadows her appearance in the sequel.
    • The Perry Twins had a prank pulled on them back in high school that resembled the humiliation scene during the ROR party in the movie.
  • The Cameo: The "King Kong of Ping Pong", Zane Xiao, makes an appearance in chapter 5.
  • Captain Obvious: Art is shown to be this on many occasions, because he tends to point out things or events that can be easily seen by others.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: While still keeping in occasional humor and heartwarming scenes, the story gets a lot more serious and dramatic as it goes along, from Laura suffering a few panic attacks here and there, to the Perry twins falling into a coma after a lab accident. And that's honestly just scratching the surface.
  • Character Development:
    • As previously noted, the fraternities and sororities from the movie are given much bigger roles in the fanfic, with each of their personalities and relationships with each other being further expressed and expanded as the story goes on.
    • Laura Sharp gets some development herself as well, albeit rather slowly. While she's still a nervous wreck in later chapters, she becomes a bit more accepting of her role as a sorority leader.
    • Terry Perry has some pretty major development throughout the story. The first few chapters portrayed him as the mature and responsible member he was, just like in the movie. As time goes on, he begins to express a much more hostile side of him, snapping at several monsters such as Noami Jackson, Johnny Worthington, and even his own brother. This is actually due to the fact that he and Terri were bullied constantly during high school, and all of it pained Terry rather deeply (the reason he snapped at Terri, however, was due to him trying to convince Terry that Noami wasn't as bad as he says she is, which didn't really end well... for the both of them).
  • Character Focus: Several Scenes focus on individual characters from many Fraternities and Sororities in each Chapter.
    • The Prologue focuses on the Sharp Family, and Laura's younger days as a young Monster child.
    • Chapter 1 has scenes focused mainly on Mike and Sulley, as well as the Oozma Kappa Fraternity.
    • Chapter 2 focuses on Laura again, and her would - be Sorority sisters.
    • Chapter 3 has several scenes on the Oozma Kappa Fraternity, and on Laura and her new friends.
    • Chapter 4 has scenes that focus on the members of Oozma Kappa Fraternity with their love Interests from Exceeda Zeta, as well as on the various leaders of the other Fraternities and Sororities.
    • Chapter 5 has character-specific scenes focusing on the JOX Fraternity, such as Dirk and Big Red. There are also scenes on Brynn, Naomi as well as Nadya again.
    • Seen frequently in the background are quite a number of scenes on Those Two Guys Marbus and Theo, as well as Sephira.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: A member of the JOX (Jaws Theta Chi) fraternity, named Baboso Goretega (a blue, slug-like monster), is not present in the fanfiction as he wasn't seen in the movie, and the author refuses to include him in the story because of his mysterious disappearance from the movie even though he was mentioned in the Fearbook and Essential Guide. Can't explain that away now can you, Pixar?
  • Cliffhanger:
    • Chapter 5 of the Fanfiction. Terri and Terry got into an intense argument with each other over the latter's feelings about Naomi Jackson, and accidentally knocked over the flask of hydrofluoric acid onto a bunsen burner in front of them, causing an explosion to rip through the science lab.
    • And again in Chapter 6. Terry half-wakes up and before he passes out again, he swears he can see a yellow figure lying across from him.
    • Chapter 7 has yet another. Terry half-wakes up again and hears "He didn't make it." The author seems to have gained fondness for ending chapters this way.
  • Cloudcuckoolander:
    • Art as usual, who is full of expressiveness and happily revels in being extremely weird.
    • Dot as well, who is shaping to be Art's Love Interest
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Averted with Terry Perry. He has quite a number of Monster Girls interested in him, and while Terry definitely acts like he's clueless, the reality is that Terry is understandably bitter after the prank pulled by ROR in the film that he doesn't reciprocate any advances by other Monster Girls on him. Chapter 7 also shows that he does not want to risk a broken heart again either.
  • Conjoined Twins: Terri and Terry Perry of the Oozma Kappa (OK) Fraternity. As of Chapter 10, the twins wake up to find themselves in separate beds and directly see that they have both been separated, meaning this trope is now averted.
  • Continuity Nod: Plenty.
    • In the Prologue, after Laura Sharp returned with "Frightening" Frank McCay back to the Monster World, we have a Fillmore Sharp's assistant mentioning about another similar incident happening also in the same week, involving "a little green cyclops monster" and nearly having to call the CDA (Child Detection Agency), which also appeared in Monsters Inc.
    • Chapter 1 has Mike meeting Celia Mae for the very first time at the ice cream shop, which he fell in love with her at first sight. She also gave him her number on the receipt when Mike and Sulley left the shop. This foreshadows them being a dating couple in the original film.
    • Laura Sharp's favorite color is blue, hence why her newly formed Sorority Exceeda Zeta's color is also blue.
  • Coattail-Riding Relative: Averted for Laura Sharp. She may be the daughter of a famous Scarer, but she does not flaunt it like Sulley in the beginning of the movie.
  • Cool Big Sis: Laura to all of the EZ girls, Nayda to Naomi, and Carrie to the rest of her sorority. Gender-flipped with Mike and Sulley to the twins, Art, and Squishy.
  • Cool Old Guy: Don Carlton, as usual. He brought Laura Sharp for an orientation tour around the campus, and they both manage to sneak into the door lab using fake identity cards and Don even opened a door to the human world!
  • Costume Porn: Dear Great Glop of Goo, Colette's many dresses definitely count as this. Just read the description of her dresses throughout the story!
Brock Pearson: "Man! That one girl's outfit really hurts my eyes!"
  • Crashing Dreams: In Chapter four, Squishy was dreaming a romantic dream about Laura when he was awakened by the alarm clock at the worst possible time (which was the same predicament as Mike and Sulley in the film), and to his surprise/horror, he found out that he was nearly kissing Randall's tail (which he was using as his "pillow"). Randall was pushed off his top bed as a result, although the author did not state what did Randall dreamed about.
  • Critical Existence Failure: The missing JOX member named Baboso Goretega (a blue, slug-like monster) that Pixar never clarified.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: We have a few.
    • For example, the EEK Sorority sacrificed their holidays and quality time with their families for their training. They may be able to predict each other's maneuvers, but they have alienated their relatives due to their training.
    • There's also HSS, they are so mysterious and silent that no one wants to get close to them, and that may give them privacy, but alienates them from the other Fraternities and Sororities.
  • Cry into Chest: In Chapter 6, Naomi Jackson did this to Sulley of all Monsters when she accidentally saw the critically injured Perry twins being wheeled on a stretcher to an ambulance from the blast site at the Science Department.
  • Curse Cut Short:
    • Quite a number of times for Terry Perry of the Perry twins, especially in the second flashback of Chapter 6.
    • In Chapter 5, we get a variant of this when Art got two cupcakes from Randall, which are a "B" and an "S", and he was about to mention the curse word when he was cut off mid-sentence by someone else.
  • Cyclops: Mike Wazowski, Terri and Terry Perry fit the criteria. As do Percy Bolesaw of JOX, Chet Alexander of the ROR, Nancy Kim and Rhonda Boyd of HSS, Debbie Gabler and Violet Steslicki of EEK.

    D - L
  • Daddy's Girl: Laura Sharp is this to her father Fillmore Sharp.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Quite a few examples, especially from the HSS sorority:
    • Rosie Levin, who in spite of her intimidating appearance is a kind soul who feels as remorseful as everyone else in the Greek community for alienating OK and works hard to make up for hurting them in the past.
    • Sonia Lewis, who has some moments of being a Perky Goth in the story thanks to her love of chocolate and crush on Terry Perry.
    • Nadya Petrov, who is a Big Sister Mentor to Naomi Jackson, especially due to the latter's heartache about Terry Perry.
  • Darker and Edgier: The story, while still lighthearted in tone, is fairly darker and more serious compared to the movie. Here are a few standouts:
    • At one point in the fic, there's a lab explosion that causes the Perry twins to fall into a coma, and eventually having to be separated to survive. Made worse by the fact that Terry angrily told Terri that he sometimes wishes that they were separated, literally right before the accident.
    • Naomi Jackson's crush on Terry causes her mental condition to get worse and worse as the story goes along due to the perpetual stress and guilt she feels. At first, she was just completely nervous and afraid of the outcome that might occur when she tried to talk to Terry. Things go downhill when she ends up getting a pretty massive "The Reason You Suck" Speech from Terry in the library, which is shortly followed by the aforementioned lab accident that leaves the already broken girl a sobbing wreck. Finally, when Noami is planted with a nightmare by Pyapi featuring the twins, her condition gets to the point where its hinted she might be becoming suicidal. Boy, does this chick need a break...
    • The nightmares in chapter 10 featured perhaps some of the darkest scenes in the entire story. Each of the fraternities and sororities are planted with nightmares by Pyapi as punishment for how they all treated OK in the previous semester and they all featured the Perry twins dying in the hospital and their ghosts coming back to haunt the dreamer. Let's just say that the results were... not pretty.
    • To a lesser but still otherwise serious extent, Laura tends to suffer panic attacks several times throughout the story.
  • Dean Bitterman: Dean Hardscrabble still shows shades of this being the undisputed stern Dean of Scaring, but she clearly has learned her lesson from the events of the movie. Now she's shown to be more of a Reasonable Authority Figure.
  • Deconfirmed Bachelor: Averted for Terry Perry as he still warms up to other Monster Girls, although he has no interest in permanent commitment to any and is also actively avoiding those from the PNK Sorority, and that includes his Stalker with a Crush Naomi Jackson.
  • Designated Girl Fight: Hinted to happen once the competition for Terry Perry's heart heats up considerably.
  • Devoted to You: Naomi, Sonia, Maria and quite a number of Monster Girls have romantic interest in Terry Perry of the Perry twins, which can be seen over the course of many chapters.
  • Dirty Old Man: Don Carlton displays a bit of this trope in Chapter 4, when he mentions that the famous Scarer Carla "Killer Claws" Benitez can scratch his back any day, earning him a disapproving look from his newlywed wife, Mrs. Squibbles.
  • Disappeared Dad: Squishy has an absent father as seen from the film, and we do not know what happened to his father. Don later marries Sherry in the first chapter. This probably means his biological father left the picture a while ago.
  • Disappointed in You:
    • Terri is very disappointed in his brother Terry in some aspects of the latter's personality, especially on how he treats the ladies. Terry, on the other hand, would push it away, knowing their views are completely different and considers himself more "careful" than his little brother. According to Terry, any girl is worth his time, except those from the PNK sorority.
    • Terri showed it briefly in the Perry twin's high school flashback in Chapter 7 in regards to Terry attempting to pursue Merida despite being rather mean towards him.
  • Drama Queen: There's a reason the author has referred to Colette as "her own little Rarity".
  • Dropping the Bombshell:
    • In Chapter 6, we have Dean Hardscrabble of all Monsters telling off Johnny Worthington when he bad-mouthed the OK Fraternity by telling him in front of the whole University that she's welcoming the entirety of the OK Fraternity into her Scaring Program, and she has no objections that Mike and Sulley are staying at the OK Fraternity House and lastly, she encourages the duo to assist the OK Fraternity in their Scaring studies.
    • Yet another bombshell is the fact that Don Carlton announced his marriage to Squishy's mother Sherry to the entire University too.
  • Does Not Like Women/He-Man Woman Hater: Semi-averted for Terry Perry. Due to the fact that the Perry twins have been ridiculed and made fun of in their younger days, and in addition to the humiliation they had suffered with the rest of the Oozma Kappa Fraternity in the last Semester, the elder twin basically tries to avoid being in any sort of romantic relationship whatsoever. So much that even his younger brother Terri, who is clearly enjoying all the romantic attention he has been getting, had been unable to convince his brother to give love another chance. According to later chapters, however, Terry has been warming up to specific girls, just not those from the PNK Sorority.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: The gender-flip variant of this trope goes to Naomi Jackson. Her constant use of persistent friendliness in the hopes of getting Terry Perry's love definitely fits this category nicely.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: In Chapters 4 and 5, Terry Perry snaps at his younger brother for insisting that he has found a significant other but doesn't acknowledge it. And chapter 7 confirms that Terry has been nursing a broken heart ever since high school due to a girl who belonged to a clique that resembled PNK pulling a Carrie-style prank on him specifically. This also resembled ROR's prank on OK in the movie. The University's participation (specifically PNK, and even more specific Naomi's) re-opened that old scar.
  • Dumb Muscle: Highly implied for the members of the Jaws Theta Chi (JOX) fraternity.
  • Dysfunction Junction: Virtually every character in the story has some pretty bad personal issues:
    • First of all, there's Terry Perry. Bullied relentlessly as a high school student and college freshman, has deep internal depression, is reluctant to give love a chance after getting a cruel prank pulled on him by a girl he used to have a crush on, and ultimately now has to live with the fact that he and his brother are no longer conjoined.
    • Naomi Jackson has it just as bad as him. She has a very obvious crush on Terry, but his hatred of her and the rest of PNK makes it very difficult for Naomi to get through to him. Not to mention the lab accident that causes the Perry brothers to fall into a coma, which severely damaged her mental state to the point where she tries to force herself to stay positive, and it only gets worse when it's implied she may be becoming a Death Seeker.
      • Speaking of PNK, it's also shown that the whole sorority have issues of their own as well, especially when it comes to dating.
    • Laura Sharp suffers from very clear anxiety and atychiphobia (the fear of failure), frequently has panic attacks, and deliberately shuts herself out from the rest of society for reasons she's reluctant to explain.
    • Randall is a socially awkward mess who wonders if he really deserves the popularity he now has after what he did to Oozma Kappa during his time with ROR.
    • Katy is implied to be depressed, such as mentioning to have had brooding emotions in the past and shows hints of anxiety over wanting to become a rap musician.
    • Monnie is very much protective of Randall, due to her crush on him, and gets incredibly jealous whenever she sees Randall talking to Laura. Randall doesn't make it any easier on Monnie due to being Innocently Insensitive most of the time by constantly talking about Laura and her problems.
    • Debbie Gabler has a... rather complicated love life. According to the rest of her sorority, Gabler has a tendency to just pick up random guys who she thinks is "the one" only to have them leave her angry and sometimes even in tears. Debbie also gets incredibly angry when confronted about this, and is implied to have had a bad homelife if Violet's comment about her mother is any indication.
    • Squishy is far more mild compared to everyone else, but he still suffers from anxiety over both his college life and his crush on Laura.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: "Abby" for Dean Hardscrabble, and Mrs. C for Mrs. Carlton.
  • Easily Forgiven: Randall Boggs is immediately forgiven by Oozma Kappa in regards to the prank from the movie, believing that it was all ROR's fault and not entirely his. Randall was incredibly reluctant at first, due to deep regret over being involved in said prank, but eventually managed to pull through and accept his place in OK.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Several.
    • Laura Sharp's first appearance in the story shows her Determinator personality, as well as her easy to panic and actively avoiding favoritism personality traits, in addition to her inability to make friends due to her lack of friendships in Fear Tech as mentioned in Chapter one.
    • Dean Hardscrabble's first scene, as usual, sees her swoop into the classroom, stand by her bust and trophy to show her earned credentials, and give a (slightly less) stern lecture (than in the movie) about how she expects only great things from her students.
  • Everyone Can See It: Despite the fact that Terry Perry delivered quite the "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Naomi Jackson in Chapter 4, many monsters, especially his younger brother Terri, can obviously see that he DOES indeed love Naomi, although he wouldn't admit it, nor he would say it out loud.
  • Exact Words: Merida Malicestorm told Terry that everyone in school would be talking about the happenings at her second Sweet 16 for a long time. She was right; no one would let him live down the prank she pulled on him and ultimately it got so bad that the Perry twins switched schools to get away from the mocking.
  • Exotic Eye Designs/What Beautiful Eyes!: Laura Sharp has a mixed color of sky and grass for her eyes, which has given her many admirers and quite a number of love interests (notably Johnny Worthington and Squishy Carlton).
  • Experienced Protagonist: Mike Wazowski IS this trope personified, full stop. Counts as a Continuity Nod to Monsters Inc.
  • Explosion Propulsion: The Perry twins suffer from this at the end of Chapter 5 due to a science lab accident.
  • Extranormal Institute: It's a University full of Monsters, hence the name. Duh.
  • The Faceless: A variant of this trope applies to Donna Soohoo of EEK. Since she's basically a bushy head with a tail, no one knows where her eyes are. According to the Essential Guide, Donna's eyes are on her tail.
  • Family Drama: We have a variant of this in chapter 5, and it is between siblings. Terri and Terry Perry quarrel with each other in the Science Labs regarding the latter's cold shoulder treatment towards Naomi Jackson.
    • The above drama took on a new twist in Chapter 10: the twins have been separated in the aftermath of their accident and they're not coping well with the fallout (Terry especially).
  • Fan Sequel: Well, more like Fan Interquel, seeing how the story takes place not too long after University while also introducing a number of factors that would be present in Inc such as Celia Mae becoming Mike's girlfriend and Roz being shown as the head of the CDA.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Terry's sentiments on getting his wish and having to live the rest of his life separated from his twin.
  • Female Gaze: Quite a few.
    • Sonia Lewis has this towards Terry Perry of the Perry twins. In chapter 5, it has been explicitly mentioned she could be seen "licking her lips and having a highly desirable smile on her face" whenever she sees Terry Perry.(Naomi is almost sickened by this when she sees Sonia eyeing Terry hungrily, truth be told).
    • Maria Garcia also has this towards Terry Perry. In chapter 2, Nadya Petrov mentioned that Maria is thinking of "working him out" for a change.
  • Femme Fatale: The various sorority members of Eta Hiss Hiss (aka HSS, where Dean Hardscrabble is from) most definitely counts. Just look at them...
  • Fictional Sport: The RENEWED Scare Games, as usual.
  • Filler: Some of the later chapters cross into this territory a bit, such as Chapter 8-and-a-half, which features a flashback about Oozma Kappa hosting an Easter egg hunt at the university, and Chapter 8-and-three-forth, which has Dirk trying to find the guts to talk to his crush, Violet of the EEK sorority, before featuring a flashback of Oozma Kappa celebrating "Ice Kappa Cream Friday" with the other students joining in. To their credit, however, they do help in exploring the characters without diverging too much from the main plot and are a considerably nice change of pace following the more gloomy chapters that preceded them.
  • Food and Animal Attraction: Archie plays this trope to exaggeration in chapter 5, even chasing after food that Johnny Worthington willingly used as bait to indirectly get Laura Sharp's attention.
  • Fool for Love: Terry Perry SEVERELY avoids this Trope because of the humiliation scene at the ROR Party last Semester, which left him full of angst, bitterness, and more angst, hence resulting in him swearing never to trust girls again. Ironically enough, he was definitely this back in high school. He fell head over heels over a girl who controlled a clique that held him and Terri with contempt. Breaches Tear Jerker territory when this culminates in him ending up getting a VERY good reason to avoid this trope after she broke his heart with a nasty prank.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Terri Perry is foolish while Terry Perry is responsible. They swapped for Terry's crush on Merida Malicestorm but once it blew up in their faces, Terry took his normal role back up without hesitation.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Dean Hardscrabble is shown to be this when she was young, according to a faded photograph of her younger days as a member of the Eta Hiss Hiss (HSS) Sorority, discovered by Laura Sharp when she stumbled across the Hall of Fame in the Greek Council building in Chapter 4.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Naomi, Sonia and Maria (and possibly many other Monster Girls) have something like this going on to earn the heart of Terry Perry in the recent Chapters.
  • Friend to All Children: "Frightening" Frank McCay is a good example. Laura Sharp's father, Fillmore Sharp is also one of the Scarers who took the time to greet and interact with the visiting children. Of course, he's no friend to human children, like Frank is.
  • Fun with Acronyms: The various fraternities/sororities. Examples include Oozma Kappa, Roar Omega Roar, Python Nu Kappa, etc.
    • We have a new one in this Fanfiction. Exceeda Zeta.
  • Gaussian Girl: Several examples.
    • When Squishy first saw Laura Sharp...
    • When Colette first saw George Sanderson...
    • When Mike first saw his future Love Interest Celia Mae...
  • Geeky Turn-On: Monnie Monstre is clearly attracted to Randall Boggs because of this, and also due to the fact his Weakness Turns Her On.
  • Gilligan Cut: This gem from the Chapter 8-and-a-half flashback:
Johnny: There is no way I am joining in this dumb egg hunt...
    (later)
Johnny: Why am I joining in this dumb egg hunt?
  • The Glomp: Art gives one of this to Sulley in Chapter six.
  • Goth: Claire (President of the MU Greek Council) and the Eta Hiss Hiss (HSS) sorority. Dean Hardscrabble, during her younger days.
  • Grand Romantic Gesture: Johnny Worthington is certainly thinking up something quite like this Trope to win Laura Sharp's heart.
    • Strangely, Carla Delgado is a little willing to help if she can have hope for him that is 100% sharp (no pun intended).
  • Great Comeback: Mike's witty comeback when Johnny insulted Squishy about winning Laura Sharp's heart.
  • Green-Eyed Monster:
    • How Naomi Jackson looks at other Monster Girls which Terry Perry talks to instead of her.
    • Monnie Monstre also has shades of this trope as she was practically seething when the object of her affections, Randall Boggs, seems to be more attracted to her sorority leader Laura Sharp than her.
Monnie: What does he see in her that he can't see in me?
    • In chapter 7, Claire reacts this way when Katy mentions she'd rather have Brock playing the prince in the scene she and Claire are doing.
  • Government Agency of Fiction: As seen in both Monsters University and Monsters Inc, the Child Detection Agency (C.D.A.) serves as one in the monster world. According to the author, their modus operandi resembles SHIELD in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, right down to the classified headquarters and the principle of protection from threats without and within.
  • Grilling the Newbie: When Laura first met Dot, Colette, Katy and Monnie in Chapter three, as well as her very first day in Monsters University.
  • Group Hug: Doubling as a Call-Back to the film, the Oozma Kappa Fraternity shared a Group Hug with Mike and Sulley when the latter duo returned back to Monster University, right in front of the entire said university.
    • That scene is (quoted) "Touching enough to make a Jaws Theta Chi member cry". Bonus points for actually making Big Red shed Manly Tears.
  • Guilty Pleasures: Many students' emotions, especially Laura Sharp, towards Randall's baking (with his excellently made cupcakes being an especially big crowd-pleaser) or Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton's cooking, as seen in Chapter 5.
  • Happy Flashback: We have a number, especially in Chapters 1, 5 and most arguably 6.
    • In Chapter 1, we have Mike remembering how he met Celia Mae for the first time and they actually become a dating couple.
    • In Chapter 5, we have Mike also remembering how George Sanderson helped him and Sulley get the mailmen jobs in Monsters Inc.
    • In Chapter 6, we have Mike and Sulley being reunited with Mrs Squibbles and the OK Fraternity, along with their grand welcome back to Monsters University.
    • In Chapter 7, we get one with the entire MU Greek community (sans ROR) holding an apology party for OK... which ultimately works.
  • Happily Married: Don and Mrs. Squibbles as of Chapter 1, Fillmore and Atta Sharp, as well as Bob and Helen Dagon.
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Heavily implied for Naomi Jackson to drown her love woes about Terry Perry. Besides ice cream, she also went through quite a number of other confectioneries at the wedding in Chapter 1.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Flashback in Chapter 7: when Big Red attempts to visit Oozma Kappa at Squishy's mother's house for the very first time. He claims that he and the rest of Frat Row REALLY want to make it up to OK for laughing at them about the ROR prank as well as having rejected them since the fraternity's founding, announcing that a party is being made in their honor back at the JOX frat house. Knowing Terry had just delivered Johnny Worthington of all monsters a "Reason You Suck" Speech, not only does he finally release his pent up emotions about what OK suffered even long before Mike and Sulley arrived, he makes it perfectly clear to the JOX president that he doesn't want to do anything with the Greek community (as well as the student body) any longer. Talk about harsh role reversal of the cold shoulder right there...
  • Held Gaze: Always slightly averted for Naomi Jackson whenever she tries to look at Terry, such as the time in Chapter five when Mrs Carlton accidentally splashed her roast soup on Naomi's sweater when the latter bumps into the former.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Even though Terry Perry's actions saved Mike and Sulley from Johnny's insults, Terry is so detached from love due to his supposedly "betrayal" at the ROR Party last Semester that he so bitter about romance which does not only shock Naomi, but also his brother Terri. Turns out in chapter 7 he never got quite over his previous experience with a girl from a clique similar to Naomi's and that the prank ROR pulled was very similar to it...
  • Hilarity Ensues: Quite a few.
    • The OK Fraternity stealing Archie the Scare Pig from Fear Tech in chapter 2.
    • Exceeda Zeta's "training" in Chapter 5, in which the girls caused quite an amusing scene in front of the OK Fraternity and the EEK sorority.
    • The Ping Pong Match between Javier Rios and Mrs. Carlton in Chapter 5.
    • Brock Pearson's various antics such as his No Indoor Voice moments and his impromptu hugs.
  • Home Sweet Home: Happens whenever the Oozma Kappa Fraternity returned to Squishy mother's home or their new Fraternity House (in Frat Row). This can be easily seen in Chapters 4 and 6.
  • Hope Is Scary: Terry Perry is reluctant to commit to a romantic relationship because he was fearful that he would be pursuing a false romantic relationship.
  • Hopeless Suitor:
    • Naomi Jackson fits this Trope whenever she tries to win back Terry Perry's heart, and those tries mostly resulted in even more spectacular failures that she needed someone (like Nadya) to talk to in order not to feel depressed.
    • Terry himself was this back in high school over a girl named Merida Malicestorm. This trope was so obvious that Terri, his less serious brother who loves romance, lampshades the imminent failure of his attempt to woo her. It is very obvious that his heart has been broken since.
  • I Can Still Fight!: Terry claims this when he finds out about the Scare Games being put on hold while he and Terri recovered.
  • Identical Strangers/Inexplicably Identical Individuals: The PNK sorority. A minor Running Gag involves everybody else being unable to tell which of them is which (such as Laura mistaking Carrie Williams for Crystal Du Bois in chapter 4).
    • None of them are biologically related, apparently.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: Terry Perry is the reigning champion of this Trope with some examples being Sonia thinking that Terry's "dominant" attitude is incredibly hot as seen from Chapter 6, Maria liking his physique and what he can do with it despite having a twin and that he has some brains to go with his brawn, and Naomi finding that Terry's friendliness and hidden talents such as being good at singing and playing an electric guitar are this trope when Terry is not angry. But we have others...
    • George Sanderson turns Colette on due to his winning smile, his sweet attitude, his positivism and sensitivity, as well as his child-like character and fuzzy fur coat.
    • Dirk Pratt is turned on by Violet's rich, deep voice and gorgeous curves.
  • I Gave My Word: Dean Hardscrabble invokes this Trope in chapter 6 when she reveals that she has accepted the members of the OK Fraternity into the Scaring Program, in honor of her bet/promise to Mike in the film.
  • If You Ever Do Anything To Hurt Them: Terry Perry, of all Monsters, essentially threatened to murder Johnny Worthington if he ever talk badly about Mike and Sulley again in front of the whole university during a flashback in Chapter 6.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Randall AKA "Randy". He got his wish, seeing that he joined Oozma Kappa in Chapter 3 and ultimately made up with Mike in chapter 4.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food:
    • Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton is proficient at making these. Examples can be seen, especially in Chapter 4 and 5.
    • Randall Boggs' cupcakes are also considered this trope by most of the school.
  • Initiation Ceremony: Laura Sharp and her friends have one near the end of chapter 3 in public to form their own Sorority, Exceeda Zeta, which involves them saying their vows and wishes before throwing the coins in their hands into the university fountain.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Don Carlton with the other Oozma Kappa members despite being old enough to be their dad. He ends up being literally Squishy's dad by the end of Chapter 1.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: There are quite a number of male Monsters who fit this trope, but George Sanderson is shown to be this most commonly, being very shy and bashful. This is most prominently featured in Chapter 5, 6, and 7, where he has a hobby of bird-watching.
  • Ironic Echo:
    • During the first event of the Renewed Scare Games, the leader of PNK politely albeit nervously wishes OK good luck. Terry responds by snarling back, "Thanks. We're gonna rip you to pieces!" Both the PNK girls and his teammates are quite shocked. She had said the same thing to OK back in the movie.
    • Brock turns to Claire in the aftermath of the Perry twins' lab accident in chapter 6 and remarks "Remember when you said 'you could totally die'?" When she nods, he continues "I hope you're wrong." The Irony isn't lost on her one bit.
  • Irony: For a monster that is nicknamed "Turbo", he is extremely slow, as he is a slug-like monster.
  • It Makes Sense in Context: Whatever Art says or does can qualify as this trope. His various weird actions and words sometimes does not make sense at first, but later on it does somehow makes sense to the other characters (eventually).
  • It's All My Fault: We have a few.
    • Naomi fits this Trope when she felt that she must have hurt Terry Perry romantically when she laughed at him and his fellow Fraternity brothers during the humiliation scene at the ROR's house. As discovered in Chapter 7, there is more to why this hurt Terry so much.
    • Laura Sharp when she perceived that she accidentally left Colette behind during the Scare Games toxicity event, hence resulting in her thinking that she's a terrible leader.
    • Chapter 10 see both of the Perry twins blaming themselves for the accident in the lab that resulted in them being separated by the doctors to save their lives.
  • It's Personal: Terry Perry's reaction towards those who treated him and his younger brother badly. And since no one but them knows happened in high school (Terry got his heart broken in sophomore year from a girl by the name of Merida Malicestorm that completely shattered his perception on romance and girls anywhere near like the PNK sorority in general), he only ends up making it worse.
  • I Will Tear Your Arms Off/I'll Kill You!: Terry Perry threatened to do this to Johnny Worthington when the latter bad-mouthed Mike and Sulley in front of the whole University. He even threatened to tear Johnny's horns off and jab those into his eyes!
Terry Perry: I will murder you, Worthington!
    • Threatened numerous times by the dream versions of the twins in the dreams the various Fraternity and Sorority members have in Chapter 10.
  • Jerkass: The Roar Omega Roar (ROR) Fraternity towards Oozma Kappa (OK) at first. Only time will tell if they will remain this way.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: All involving the ROR Fraternity.
    • A flashback in Chapter 6, taking place immediately after the Toxicity Challenge, shows Johnny Worthington stating to Campus Roar photographer Lane Picca (while defending Laura Sharp) that her "persuasion" methods on the EZ leader for a photo shoot can means jail for her, because of her disregard for Laura's opinion.
    • Happens again in Chapter 11 part 1 with Chet Alexander (in a flashback) and Reggie Jacobs reminding two monster girls (respectively Brynn Larson of EEK and Sonia Lewis of HSS) that they (and their respective sororities) weren't any better than ROR in their previous treatment of Oozma Kappa. However, both ROR boys get rebuked when said girls tell them that they didn't change for the better, unlike the other Greek monsters.
  • Jerk Jock: Johnny Worthington III fits this trope nicely. Because scaring is an academic discipline, this creates the unusual scenario in which the jock is also a high-achieving student and proud of it. In general, this seems to be the main trait of the Roar Omega Roar Fraternity.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Only time will tell if Johnny Worthington III will become this later in the story.
    • Johnny Worthington did show a little bit of caring for the Perry twins in chapter 6.
    • Possibly confirmed in chapter 7 when Laura spotted him sneaking a expensive gift of the Twin's favorite instruments right under OK's noses. Whether he was trying to get on Laura's good side or was doing this out of genuine care remains to not be seen.
    • After the dream he had in Chapter 10, he's starting to change ever so slowly but progress is progress.
  • Just a Stupid Accent: Averted for Javier Rios, who was shown in Chapter 5 to be able to speak in a deep and heavy Hispanic accent.
  • "Just Joking" Justification: The PNK girls try to claim Carrie's line of "We're gonna rip you to pieces" was just jesting banter... unfortunately, they're perfectly aware that trying this falls completely flat.
  • Just Testing You: Laura Sharp, after calling out Sulley on his arrogance and selfishness in chapter 6 which causes him to fall onto his knees crying out for forgiveness, reveals that she was only testing Sulley on whether he has changed for the better.
  • Kids Are Cruel/Teens Are Mean: This was the case for the Perry twins (Terry was the main target) back in their high school sophomore year. Terry himself is understandably bitter and what happened supplied him with a very good reason to hate ROR's prank in the movie and the girls of PNK as well.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Heather Olsen of PNK is revealed to have kleptomania in Chapter 8-and-a-half.
  • Kudzu Plot: There is a lot that goes on in the story. We got Laura's anxiety issues that she's reluctant to talk about, Terry's complications with love, the Perry twins falling into a coma and eventually being separated to survive, Nadya's life with magical trolls that live underneath the school, various romantic subplots, and more that's implied but hasn't even been revealed yet. The story does make an effort to balance it all out as much as it can, but it can still be pretty easy to lose track of everything.
  • Lampshaded Double Entendre: Johnny's actions towards Laura can be considered as this.
    • Nadya's comments to Naomi about other Monster Girls vying for Terry Perry's heart, such as Sonia and Maria, also counts due to the fact that each of them secretly fantasizes about what they would be doing with Terry Perry if he does choose either one of them.
  • Large Ham: Brock Pearson, as usual, again.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Johnny Worthington suffers from this trope occasionally due to his actions in chapters 3 and 6, in which he was put in his place in front of the whole university by Terry Perry with a damning speech when Johnny bad-mouths Mike and Sulley, and Dean Hardscrabble who proceeded to inform him that she's welcoming Mike and Sulley back to MU to help the OK Fraternity with their studies.
    • Then in the following chapter, he gets it again when the rest of the Greek society blatantly ignores him telling them to forgo an apology part for OK because it won't work and telling him indirectly that he's a self-centered jerk.
    • He gets yet another dose of it in Chapter 10, having a dream where his childhood friend Carla leaves him at the mercy of human children because of his self-centered and cruel attitude. This time, it actually seems to have hit its mark.
  • Late for School: A few examples.
    • A yellow slug-like monster desperately tries not to be late on the first day by slithering as fast as he can... at about 1 millimeter per second. Needless to say, he was late... by two Semesters. Now known as Theo (AKA "Turbo") in this canon, he's determined not to be Late for School again.
    • Laura Sharp, who is determined not to be later than she already is on her first day, causes quite a bit of ruckus on her panicked flight to the School of Scaring, culminating in her Big Entrance that interrupted Professor Knight's Scaring Class.
  • Lethal Chef: Though she's at least trying, Carrie Williams is shown to be a terrible chef, to the point where her own sorority members suggest that they should just eat at someone else's fraternity/sorority house.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: Averted because when Terry Perry told his brother not to bring up his problem with his romantic relationships with girls, but his brother insists on talking to him about the incidents as seen in chapter 5.
    • Revealed in chapter 7 to be a result of a nasty heartbreak prank intended specifically for Terry back in his high school sophomore year. Terry ignoring the warning given by his less responsible romance loving brother that the girl was likely going to break his heart (which she did) suggests this might actually be a source of embarrassment, guilt, and remorse for not listening to Terri's warning.
  • Life of the Party: Mrs. Carlton, of all monsters, demonstrated that she has this trope in her by beating Javier Rios of the ROR Fraternity in a Ping Pong match in chapter 5.
  • Like a God to Me: A few examples.
    • Laura Sharp towards her idol Scarers.
    • The OK Fraternity, especially the Perry Twins, towards the duo Mike and Sulley.
  • Cake Eater: The common misconception made by most of the student body about Terry Perry due to him dancing with Dean Hardscrabble during the Stadium Wedding of Mrs. Squibbles and Don Carlton. The misconception is that he only did it so he wouldn't have to dance with Naomi.
  • Lipstick-and-Load Montage: Colette does this in Chapter 3 for the RENEWED Scare Games kick-off happening later in the chapter all because of being The Fashionista, she wants to be a fashionable supporter.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Some of the monsters have animal features on them, like Brock having Minotaur horns, or Laura having rabbit ears.
  • Living Legend:
    • Dean Abigail Hardscrabble, current holder of the All-Time Scare Record.
    • "Frightening" Frank McCay is a good example, seeing that he is a famous alumni of Monsters University.
    • Special mention also goes to Earl "The Terror" Thompson, Carla "Killer Claws" Benitez and "Screaming" Bob Gunderson. The former two Monsters both graduated from Monsters University.
  • Loner-Turned-Friend: Randall Boggs is this to the OK Fraternity and Mike, except (maybe) to Sulley.
  • Longing Look: Pretty much describes what Naomi Jackson's facial expression when looking at Terry Perry. This also applies for other Monster Girls who are vying for the elder Perry twin's love.
  • Lovable Jock: Brock Pearson, again.
    • George Sanderson and his fellow JOX members too, in this story.
  • Love Allegory: Subverted in chapter 4 with regards to the philosophical statement Terry made to his younger brother when Terri tried to chide the former regarding his attitude towards Naomi Jackson.
Terry Perry: It’s better to never love at all than to love and lose it because that love was going to betray you in the first place.
  • Love at First Sight: A few examples:
    • Mike Wazowski and Celia Mae.
    • Colette and George Sanderson. Period.
    • A one-sided example with Laura, who manages to attract both Johnny Worthington and Squishy.
  • Love Can Make You Gonk: Squishy suffers from this trope in the presence of Laura Sharp, which normally results in him getting all sorts of awkward body language, such as profuse sweating, panting, noodleing, redness of the face, and the heart attempting to escape his chest at high velocity, whenever she compliments or even praises him at times, especially in chapters 5 and 6.
  • Love Hurts: As Naomi Jackson finds out in chapter 4, when Terry Perry rejects her and instead gives Naomi a terrifying "The Reason You Suck" Speech, causing her to run out of the library in tears. It sadly gets much worse for her in later chapters...
    • Revealed to have been Terry's reason for avoiding love as shown in a high school flashback in chapter 7.
  • Loves Me Not: Naomi Jackson when thinking of Terry Perry of the Perry twins. Time will tell if Terry's hatred will remain this way as of late.
  • Love Theme: Terri and Katy have one in chapter 5, named "Bust a Groove 2: Happy Heart in the Sunshine."

     M - P
  • Masquerade: Like the movie, the story emphasizes the need to keep monsters' existence hidden from humans. Several scaring lessons focus on how to avoid suspicion, since a professional Scarer must be competent in doing so. Its importance is even incorporated in several events of the Scare Games.
  • Male Gaze: Again, quite a few.
    • Mike was definitely checking out Celia Mae when he first met her in Chapter 1, although he wouldn't admit it.
    • Johnny Worthington was obviously admiring Laura Sharp's amazing curves, especially the lower portion of her body, when he saw her in the University gym in chapter 4. He even managed to trick her into bending over in a later chapter so he could get a "nice view."
    • Dirk Pratt finds himself admiring Violet's well-built and voluptuous curves on her body when they were both buying canned drinks from a vending machine in chapter 5.
  • Manly Tears:
    • Big Red, the president of the Jaws Theta Chi Fraternity, shed tears when he saw the Oozma Kappa Group Hug with Mike and Sulley in chapter 6.
    • The twins in chapter 10 when they wake up and find themselves in 2 separate bodies.
  • Mama Bear: Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton to the OK members (plus Mike and Sulley) and Dean Hardscrabble to her students.
  • Meaningful Echo: Terry Perry brings this up in Chapter 6 in his rant to Johnny Worthington. He tells the ROR president that Mike helped them realized that a Monster is defined by his or her own unique abilities, and "There's no one type of Scarer."
  • Meaningful Name: The Oozma Kappa frat brothers are a genuine group of guys, they're "OK"; they're also "OK" with being that way.
    • The fraternity Roar Omega Roar, the acronym if which is also ROR, clearly indicative of their skills in scaring- one of the best known techniques of which is roaring.
    • The guys from Jaws Theta Chi (JOX) are all "jocks".
    • The girls from Python Nu Kappa (PNK) are all cheerleaders who dress in "pink".
    • The girls from Eta Hiss Hiss (HSS) are all goths that "hiss".
    • "Hardscrabble" means "Little or no appreciation for great effort". The Dean's reasons for this behavior are justified to an extent, however.
    • Terri and Terry Perry names are based off the word Terrify. Chapter 10 gets this across rather well.
    • Laura Sharp's new Sorority, Exceeda Zeta, is easy to remember as the initials is named "EZ", which sounds like "easy."
    • The girl who that completely broke Terry's heart in high school through a horrible prank? Her name was Merida Malicestorm.
  • Men Are Childish: The whole Oozma Kappa Fraternity is this in the best possible way.
  • Men Don't Cry: Big Red averts this in chapter 6, as he did cry.
  • Mistaken Confession: In Chapter 5, Monnie assumes Randall Boggs is willing to ask her out, but was disappointed when she found out that he was basically just asking about things she didn't expect, hence triggering the Green-Eyed Monster when he talks about her sorority leader Laura Sharp.
    • Happens again in Chapter 7 although this time he does notice her discomfort.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: All over the place in the movie, as well as this Fanfiction. Some examples include Brock, who looks like a Minotaur-bird hybrid; The Librarian, a humanoid snail-kraken hybrid; Fear Tech's Scare Pig mascot, a six-legged goat-eyed pig; Dean Hardscrabble, a humanoid centipede-dragon hybrid; and Laura Sharp, a dragon bat hybrid.
  • Mood Whiplash: In chapter 5, we see everyone attending a party at the JOX house, mingling with each other, enjoying food cooked by Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton and having fun, then in the next day we see the Perry twins arguing with each other and inadvertently causing an explosion in the Science Lab after accidentally knocking over a flask of hydrofluoric acid onto a Bunsen burner.
    • Chapter 10 sees a series of monsters reacting violently to terrible nightmares before switching to the twins' awakening and then finally showing us how giddy Mrs. Carlton is that the twins are okay and will be coming home soon.
  • Motive Rant: Terry Perry's rant in Chapter 6 is reminiscent of this Trope as he basically tells Monsters University why the OK Fraternity looks up to Mike and Sulley.
  • Multiple Head Case: Terri and Terry. Subverted, as they're two different characters and now no longer sharing a body.
  • My Cousin Is Off Limits: Averted for Percy Bolesaw regarding his fellow Fraternity Brother Dirk Pratt pursuing his cousin Violet Steslicki, assuming if the EEK sorority member does not leave Dirk in the dust like all the other male monsters who tried to date them.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Laura Sharp of all Monsters demonstrated this ability in Chapter four, as she can practically carry all of her sorority members on her body form alone.
    • Marbus Dagon plays this Trope too, as he is built heavily from top to bottom with thick, hard ropey muscle, and that helped him immensely in any football games he is taking part in.
  • Must Make Amends /The Atoner: Randall Boggs falls into this Trope due to the fact he feels that he has to atone for the humiliation prank played on the Oozma Kappa Fraternity by the ROR Fraternity, which he has a part of. Don Carlton reminded him that young monsters tend to do terrible things in their youth due to their naive attitudes towards life, and the OK Fraternity don't hold it against him that much.
    • Naomi Jackson also counts as she felt that she must atone for breaking Terry Perry's heart when the PNK Sorority laughed at the OK Fraternity during the humiliation prank played by ROR in the film.
    • The entire Greek Community (exempting ROR), the Council, and the Dean were all revealed to of successfully done this for OK after Sulley and Mike were welcomed back to the University.
  • Mysterious Past:
    • Laura Sharp's past University life in Fear Tech is pretty much shrouded in mystery, and we still don't know why she's so easy to panic and her obvious fear when accused of stealing another's boyfriend and especially of the University President when she met Claire Wheeler.
    • Katy displays some traits of having a mysterious past throughout the story. Several chapters show her as expressing self-consciousness and subtle signs of being depressed.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: the entirety of the Greek community (sans ROR) are stated to have felt this way after having stood by and done nothing but laugh at Oozma Kappa as they were pranked by the RO Rs at their party, and their remorse only increased during the flashback in chapter 6 when Terry's rage-filled tirade against Johnny Worthington over how important Mike is to them and how much misery Oozma Kappa had been subjected to up until that point makes them realize how unfairly they've been treating OK since they were first founded.
  • The Napoleon: Along with having the shortest height amongst her sorority sisters, Debbie Gabler of EEK also has the shortest temper.
  • Nerd Glasses:
    • Randall "Randy" Boggs. However, Mike tells him to lose the glasses early in the movie. He reverts to his original nerdy self, but he haven't worn the glasses since.
    • Sherry Carlton gives Randall back his glasses during the Scare Games's Toxicity Challenge in Chapter 4.
  • Nervous Wreck: Laura Sharp. Demonstrated quite best when she's suffers her panic attacks.
  • Never Say That Again: Terry Perry wants his brother to never ever bring up the topic of Naomi again, but Terri averts it by being stubborn towards his brother, as seen in chapter 5.
  • New Rules as the Plot Demands: Despite most of the information comes from official Pixar sources and books, the story is quite guilty of this trope.
    • The RENEWED Scare Games is bound to be much longer this time due to the number of Fraternities and Sororities taking part in it, which requires the need for more super intense events, for example.
    • The romance between the various fraternity and sorority characters in the film is currently taking the front stage in the recent Chapters, especially between OK and EZ as hinted by the author.
    • The story is also the author's way of proving why Randall Boggs is NOT the villain most fans think he is, but more of a misunderstood and kindred spirit.
    • Also, there's more focus to the background characters, such as the various fraternities and sororities (JOX, EEK, HSS, PNK and ROR), as well as University characters such as Lane Picca, Brock Pearson, Claire Wheeler, and even Archie the Scare Pig.
    • Oozma Kappa probably having to play as "love doctors" for someone in ROR is one of the future plot-lines.
    • There will be more focus on other classes in Monsters University, as well as paying tribute to other Disney and Pixar Movies, such as Brave]] and Frozen (2013)''.
    • The Monsters University Faculty will also receive scene time, such as Madame Foster of the Drama Class.
  • Nice Guy: We have a number of Monsters who fit this Trope.
    • The OK Fraternity is this towards Randall as they treat him fairly and with respect.
    • Big Red is quite nice towards the OK Fraternity, inviting them to the JOX party in Chapter five.
    • George Sanderson also fits this Trope as he offers assistance to help Mike and Sulley get hired as mailmen in Monsters Inc.
    • Marbus Dagon is this towards his roommate Theo "Turbo" as he helps the latter in catching up on his two semesters' worth of homework and assignments, as well as coaching him on basic Scaring skills.
    • Nadya is the gender-flip of this Trope, as she assists Naomi in trying to get back to Terry Perry's good side.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Terry Perry, who has been giving the PNK sorority the cold shoulder treatment, when he broke Naomi's heart further by ranting at her in front of everybody in the university library, which caused Naomi to be emotionally depressed.
    • Terry Perry again, when he is being somewhat physically abusive with his brother during their sibling argument.
    • While Pyapi did indeed invoke a change with monsters in HSS, JOX, ROR, and EEK with the nightmares... she probably went a little to far with Naomi's. The author has confirmed that Naomi is reaching near suicidal levels of depression after her nightmare and on top of that the other PNK girls were forced to live through the very same nightmare from Naomi's perspective because they all have a mind link. Carrie notes that she herself felt like breaking down and crying after the dream even when she knew it technically wasn't hers.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Johnny Worthington all the way. Chet also counts in Chapter 5.
    • Johnny's bad-mouthing in Chapter 6 caused Terry Perry to give him a damning speech and instead making Mike and Sulley even better in the eyes of the rest of the Fraternities and Sororities in Monsters University, and earned a quiet but firm dressing down from Dean Hardscrabble.
    • Johnny's nearly harming of Randall Boggs caused the lizard monster to meet his soon-to-be Love Interest Monnie Monstre for the very first time, and the OK Fraternity to show their dedication to helping the newest member of their Fraternity.
    • Chet betting against Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton, which resulted in him losing money to Brynn of EEK when he lost the bet due to Mrs. Squbbiles/Carlton winning against Javier Rios in a Ping Pong Match.
  • No Indoor Voice: Brock Pearson, who screams out his catchphrase (THE SCARE GAMES!!) EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. This is pointed out by many characters, even in this story.
    • Averted for dramatic effect in the aftermath of the Perry twins' lab accident.
  • Non-Mammalian Hair: Sort of. Don Carlton's "thinning hair" and mustache look like fins, much like many other students on campus. Claire Wheeler is another good example.
  • Noodle Incident: Chapter 8 and three quarters briefly mentions something that happened to Debbie's mother. Given the context, there's a strong possibility it might've had something to do with Debbie's dad.
  • No Sympathy: Averted for Johnny Worthington in Chapter 6, which revealed that he did care about the Perry twins, although it's just a little. And is now averted in Chapter 7 when he snuck the Twins expensive gifts with an even stronger aversion in Chapter 10 after a terrible nightmare he had about his actions coming back to bite him in the worst possible way.
  • Not So Weak:
    • The Oozma Kappa Fraternity can be easily mistaken for being weak, but their diversity is what makes them unique among the Fraternities and Sororities of Monsters University.
    • Exceeda Zeta is also playing this Trope very well.
  • Now Let Us Carry You: In Chapter 6, the whole of the Oozma Kappa Fraternity, as well as Mike and Sulley, offered to help Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton do her household chores and make a welcome banner to welcome the Perry twins when they finally return from medical treatment at the hospital after their accident in chapter 5.
  • Oblivious to Hatred:
    • With the exception of Mike, Sulley, and Terri, nobody in Oozma Kappa is currently aware of how abhorrent Terry is towards the girls of PNK, and though Squishy happens to notice during the first event how distasteful his frat brother is to them, he figures it to be on account of Terry growing more competitive since the previous semester.
    • Sulley is completely unaware of how Randall has neither forgotten nor forgiven him for unwittingly botching his performance in the scare simulator in the final event of last semester's scare games.
  • Oblivious to Love: Terry Perry has shades of this Trope. He has many Monster Girls vying for his attention, but he did gradually pay only the barest amount of attention to their advances. Revealed to be a aversion. Terry is not oblivious, but he is incredibly bitter because of a previous bad heartbreak and is afraid of committing to any girl in fear of having that scar torn open again.
    • Laura and Randall are this trope full stop to Squishy and Monnie respectively.
  • Obsessed with Food: Laura and Archie the Scare Pig fit this trope to a T.
  • Odd Friendship: Naomi Jackson (from Python Nu Kappa) and Nadya Petrov (from Eta Hiss Hiss) appeared to have some kind of an Odd Friendship of sorts as of revealed in chapter 2, despite the fact they come from vastly different sororities. However, Nadya did give a friendly reminder to Naomi that they are still competitors in the Scare Games, but does give the least bit of support in regards to Naomi's feelings about Terry Perry (such as mentioning the competition of other monster girls vying for him) and is very invested in helping Naomi with her romantic troubles once it becomes clear they're damaging her health.
    • Nyada and Pyapi the troll also have this. This trope however might be averted in the next few chapters as Chapter 10 reveals that Pyapi might of actually damaged Naomi's emotional state with the nightmares.
  • Official Couple: Mike Wazowski and his Love Interest Celia Mae, Big Red and Flora, and Don Carlton and Mrs. Squibbles.
  • Oh, Crap!: We have quite a number.
    • When Fillmore Sharp and Ms. Lawrence found out that Laura has followed the Scarer Frank McKay into the human world.
    • When Mike and Sulley, as well as the OK Fraternity, found out that Laura is Archie the Scare Pig's caretaker after they stole Archie from Fear Tech, Laura's previous school.
    • When Laura found out that the four female Monsters that joined her last-minute sorority are those that she had bumped into on her first day of school.
    • When Naomi realized that Terry Perry is about to give her an incredibly damning "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
    • When the students (Laura especially) realized that the new toxicity challenge is going to use highly explosive poison urchins, which the competitors have to run through in the dark.
    • When Theo "Turbo" realizes that the explosive poison urchin he shot was hit back to him by Randall.
    • When many characters, such as Squishy and Mike, realize that Laura is about to have a panic attack in the various Chapters.
    • When Javier Rios realizes that he is losing to Mrs. Carlton in the Ping Pong match (same goes for the rest of the ROR fraternity).
    • When the students in the Science lab saw that the Perry twins knocked over the flammable fluid onto... a Bunsen burner.
    • When Naomi realizes that the Perry Twins are not among all the monsters that just sustained minor injuries from the explosion in the science building. Her fears that Terry is critically wounded is unfortunately true.
    • In Chapter 10, Terry has a slow one as he realizes that he's no longer sharing a body with his twin.
  • One Head Taller: Monnie and Randall fall into this trope due to their pairing.
  • Only One Name: Art is the only Monster character to not have a full name. No one actually knows his name aside from the given one.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The Perry twins falling into a coma in chapter 6 causes quite a lot of this for many characters, notably the usually cheery Sherri Carlton, the usually stern Dean Hardscrabble, the usually loud Brock, and the usually bizarre Art.
  • Orgasmically Delicious: Essentially how Omar Harris of JOX reacts to Mrs. Carlton's food in chapter 5.
  • Our Monsters Are Different: The population of Monsters living in Monstropolis live their daily lives like humans, with a Monster twist to it. They still go to school, go to work, study in universities to get a job when they graduate. They also each have their own hopes and dreams, and interact socially with each other.
  • Pair the Spares: The members of the Oozma Kappa Fraternity find themselves falling in love with the Monster Girls from Exceeda Zeta, and there are also other members of the Fraternities and Sororities hooking up and becoming couples. So far, we have the following...
    • Laura and Squishy, Dot and Art, Katy and Terri, Colette and George, Monnie and Randall, Marbus and Sephira.
    • With official monster characters from the film, Flora and Big Red, Dirk and Violet, Debbie and Javier, and more to come...
  • Papa Wolf: Terry Perry is this to both his brother and the rest of his fraternity. It's more "Brother Wolf" but it has the same principal.
  • Pardon My Klingon:
    • We have one in the Prologue. And a few others in later Chapters.
Fillmore Sharp: "My daughter! She went in there as well! Oh, Great Glop of Goo, if a human child touched her...!"
    Professor Knight: "Fear Tech dummies..."
    • Katy exclaims "My fins!" when she, the rest of EZ and the remaining Oozma family are told that they can't get in to see the injured twins due to possible infection. The others' reaction ends indicates that this is a legitimate curse.
  • Parental Substitute: Don Carlton acts as one to the members of the Oozma Kappa Fraternity, as well as to Laura and her Sorority Exceeda Zeta.
  • Parenthetical Swearing: Terry Perry when giving his "The Reason You Suck" Speech towards Naomi and Johnny in Chapters 4 and 6 respectively.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Dean Hardscrabble does this to Johnny Worthington in Chapter 6.
  • Pensieve Flashback: Guaranteed to happen once every chapter. Readers are treated to plenty of those, sometimes more than once at times.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: The Perry brothers, Terry and Terri. The former is calm, cynical, and intellectual, where the latter is energetic, optimistic, and theatrical.
    • They're later shown to have different views about romance. Terry is bound and determined not to admit his feelings for Naomi Jackson after the prank pulled by ROR during the movie hurt his perception on the Greek Community and affected his ability to trust girls while the idea of being so bitter out and out shocks the incredibly romantic Terri. Terry ironically was the romantic one back in high school while Terri was the bound one (to put it into perspective Terri noticed really quick that the girl Terry was pining for was going to hurt him and warned him sternly that she was a cold witch).
  • Poor Communication Kills:
    • Laura and Squishy both are guilty of this trope, but more of the latter as he can't tell his secret crush how he feels about her, or in complete sentences without being a little silly.
    • Terry's refusal to tell anyone about Merida Malicestorm breaking his heart makes him appear to be a heartless jerk in reference to Naomi and his argument with his twin. Time will tell if the end results of the latter will lead to an It's All My Fault moment or two.
  • Priceless Ming Vase: Dean Hardscrabble's scream can; her one souvenir of a lifetime of scaring. As of this story, a new one is replaced due to the old one being accidentally destroyed by Mike and Sulley in the movie.
  • Punny Name: Some of the Monsters have what basically amounts to names with puns in them.
  • Purple Is Powerful: The EEK Sorority is this, especially Carla being the stern big sister (or nagging mother) to Johnny of all monsters, as well as being like a sister to Laura.

     R - Z
  • Ragebreaking Point: Terry Perry all the way. The flashback in chapter 6 reveals this frightening side of him, which Johnny Worthington, the monsters of Frat Row, and the entire MU student body witness. We can't exactly blame Terry since Johnny spoke out trash about Mike and Sulley, mainly the former which, as the trope insists, it the breaking point that Terry literally punches down a table and actually scaring everyone. And telling Johnny off and "indirectly" calling the campus out for all the misery Oozma Kappa has suffered since their first year? Even Big Red is scared, and he's apparently famous for HIS temper!
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Oozma Kappa. Also Exceeda Zeta, to an extent.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Professor Derek Knight of the Scaring Program. Dean Hardscrabble is this to a certain extent.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Jaws Theta Chi member Percy Boleslaw and Slugma Slugma Kappa member Violet Steslicki are cousins in this story.
  • Rich Bitch: Merida Malicestorm, Terry's crush who broke his heart in sophomore year of high school.
  • Running Gag:
    • Characters mixing up the girls in PNK. Sulley finally gets called on it by Mike after he calls Naomi Jackson by the wrong name while comforting her after Terry rips her to shreds verbally.
    • Another one, as stated by the author herself, is Laura Sharp constantly getting into panic attacks, causing nearby characters to worry about her constantly and urging her to: (quoted) Laura, Breathe! Breathe!
  • Sarcasm Mode: Holy goo...we have a lot of these.
    • Especially Mike's comments to Johnny when Laura was having her panic attack in Chapter 4.
Mike: Oh, that's really to make her feel better, Worthington!
    • Carla reminding Johnny that Laura isn't interested in his advances.
Carla: And she's not interested... Johnny. And maybe someone should bring a paper bag just in case.
    • Terry arguing with his younger brother on their sleeping positions.
Terry: Your side of the bunk? We're one body and you managed to take most of the space!
    • Johnny looking down on the OK gang when they went to the gym to train.
Johnny: Going to work out? Careful now. Most of these machines are a little extreme. Maybe you should go for something a little more your speed.
    • When a Lecturer was telling the class about the dangers of hydrofluoric acid, Theo "Turbo" let out a scoff as a sarcastic remark because he knew all too well what happened to him in the first event of the Scare Games.
  • Saved by the Awesome: Randall Boggs appears to have been saved by the OK Fraternity and Monnie Monstre with regards to this trope.
  • Seamless Spontaneous Lie: Terri Perry tried to do this to Naomi by lying to her when his brother Terry pleaded with him to drive her away in Chapter 4.
  • Secret Test of Character: In Chapter 5, we see Laura testing Sulley on whether he has genuinely changed from his former arrogant self in the film through the guise of a stern lecture.
  • Shaming the Mob: Terry Perry's speech in Chapter 6 makes everyone think on their actions and change their attitudes towards the OK Fraternity, as well as Mike and Sulley, over the new semester after previous the Scare Games.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: Mike Wazowski, again. He practically defines this Trope.
    • Inverted with the twins, especially now that they're in separate bodies with the taller Terry being the more intellectual of the two.
  • Shout-Out: Too many to list.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Terry Perry falls into this trope when he calls Johnny Worthington out on his bad attitude and character when the latter bad-mouths Mike and Sulley (more of Mike in particular) in chapter 6.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Mike Wazowski and Celia Mae IS this trope, as seen from any of those scenes they appeared in. Especially amusing considering how this is they typically how they interacted with each other in Inc.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Terry Perry delivering a "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Johnny in chapter 6 definitely counts.
    • Mrs. Carlton defeating Javier Rios of ROR in a Ping Pong Match in chapter 5 also qualifies.
  • Skyward Scream: We have a number of these.
    • Colette does this in chapter 2 when Laura bumped into her and ruined her makeup.
    • Colette does it again in chapter 5 when Katy brought a stinging urchin to the OK frat house.
  • The Smart Guy: Don Carlton fits this role among the Oozma Kappa Fraternity.
    • Percy Bolesaw also qualifies for the JOX Fraternity, apparently being skilled in robotics.
    • Marbus Dagon is also this as he's quite the ace student in his own right.
  • Smug Snake: Johnny Worthington, FULL STOP.
    • Although Chet (who is a Johnny wanna-be) and Javier have shades of this trope too...
  • Snap to the Side: Terry Perry does this to Naomi Jackson when the latter pleads to him in the University Library in chapter 4.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Oh yes. To name a few:
    • Between Carla and Johnny in chapter 4.
    • Between Brynn and Chet in chapter 5.
  • So Proud of You: Mrs. Carlton is this towards the entirety of the OK Fraternity.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Naomi Jackson is this to Terry Perry. She desperately yearn for the elder Perry twins' attention, yet she dared not approach him after he delivered a "The Reason You Suck" Speech to her in the University Library in front of almost everyone in the aforementioned Library in chapter 4, breaking her heart. She isn't giving up on the battle for Terry Perry's love, however, as seen in chapter 5.
  • Standard '50s Father: Don Carlton fits this trope due to his mannerisms and behaviour, though we all know he was NOT born in the 50s.
  • Stealth Pun: There's romance between a girl named Katy and a student whose last name is Perry. Does anybody see where I'm going with this?
  • Stern Teacher: Professor Derek Knight dips into this trope when he's totally serious, while Dean Hardscrabble plays this trope completely straight.
  • Stepford Smiler: Naomi becomes a type A by chapter 8 because the guilt over participating in Terry's prank and his attitude towards her thereafter has sent her into serious depression, and that is not even getting into the fact that was in the hospital. She manages to unnerve Nadya and Carrie with a clearly fake and near maniacal looking grin/smile in this state.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: What happened to the Science Labs in chapter 5 due to the Perry twins accidentally knocking over a flask of Hydrofluoric acid onto a Bunsen Burner during their sibling argument.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Occasionally averted for Javier Rios of the ROR fraternity. He seems like a strong, silent type of character, but he does somehow finds Debbie Gabler's irritation with him somewhat amusing.
    • Romance does this to Terry Perry... especially if Naomi is involved.
  • Supreme Chef:
    • Sherry Carlton has been heavily implied to be one. Examples include chapter 5, where JOX member Percy Boleslaw begs Oozma Kappa to have Sherry bring her food to their party.
    • Randall too, though he specializes in baking sweets.
  • Sweet Tooth: Laura adores sweet food, as evidenced from her box of donuts in Chapter 3 and her behavior any time she gets a hold of Randall's cupcakes.
  • Talking in Your Dreams: Squishy is this as seen in chapter 4, although Sonia is not far from it.
  • Talking Your Way Out: Johnny has shades of this trope, although the Perry twins are this when it comes to Naomi.
  • Team Dad: Don Carlton starts out as one for Oozma Kappa and later on becomes one in a more literal sense for Squishy by getting engaged to his mom. As of chapter 1, he is officially Squishy's new father and becomes this to the rest of the university.
  • Team Mom: Sherry Squibbles - Carlton remains this to the Oozmas and eventually expands to the rest of the school's frats and sororities.
  • Team Pet: Archie the Scare Pig, who is the Mascot of the Rival University Fear Tech, is now more or less Exceeda Zeta Sorority's Team Mascot (and personal pet of Laura Sharp).
  • Tears of Fear: Naomi Jackson sheds these when she saw the Perry twins severely injured in chapter 6 and again in chapter 7 when she and Katy get back from sneaking in to try to see the twins. She's not the only one either; some of her competition is tearful too.
  • Tears of Remorse: Naomi Jackson sheds these whenever she thought back on how she and her sorority laughed at the Oozma Kappa Fraternity when they were humiliated by ROR back in the events of the film, but most prominently in chapter 4 after Terry Perry rant at her in the University Library.
  • Tempting Fate: Chet Alexander falls into this in Chapter 5, when he makes a bet to Brynn Larson of the EEK Sorority that his fellow ROR brother Javier Rios will one-up Mrs. Squibbles/Carlton at the ping-pong game, and ends up losing the bet following the OK mom's surprise victory.
  • Tender Tears: Rosie and Carla (president of HSS and EEK respectively) shed such tears in the Stadium Wedding of Sherry Squibbles and Don Carlton in chapter 1.
  • Tension-Cutting Laughter: Chapter 6, after Javier Rios has been defeated by Mrs. Carlton in a game of Ping Pong, Debbie Gabler invokes this trope by actually laughing openly at Javier after she was unable to stifle her giggles. Javier is obviously not impressed, and broke his The Voiceless facade.
  • Theme Twin Naming: Terri and Terry's names sound the same but use a letter similar to their respective horn designs.
  • The Name Is Bond, James Bond: In chapter 2 when Laura introduces herself to Johnny Worthington
    Laura: "Sharp. Laura Sharp."
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Terry gives one to Naomi Jackson of PNK after she tries to admit her crush on him. He basically tells her that PNK is a female version of ROR and that he NEVER wants to see her again if he can help it. She's noticeably upset and breaks down in tears, having to be comforted by Nayda of HSS, Mike and Sulley.
    • He gave another to Johnny in a flashback for insulting Mike and Sulley. Terry is scary good at these.
    • In Chapter 10, we see dream versions of the twins give these to several characters with other characters having gotten the speech in an off-screen dream. All of them are rather shaken by it.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: We have a number in this Fan Fiction.
    • Mike and Celia.
    • Laura and Squishy.
    • Dot and Art.
  • Unscientific Science:
    • The levels of toxicity of various human children paraphernalia and the CDA's (extremely painful) decontamination procedures fall under this trope.
    • The flask of Hydrofluoric acid spilled onto a Bunsen Burner also fits the trope too.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Everyone in the OK Fraternity as they have proved themselves to be proficient Scarers since the events of the film (Terry Perry especially, since he went from timid guy to one who can rebuke Johnny Worthington of all Monsters in chapter 6).
  • Tragic Bigot: Well, not exactly a "bigot" but, Terry absolutely refuses to forgive PNK for participating in the prank that ROR pulled on him and the rest of Oozma Kappa, as well as even consider the mere concept of falling in love. As mentioned several times throughout this page, all of this stems from Terry suffering from bullying and a severe heartbreak in his highschool years, with the aforementioned prank reopening those previously sealed scars of his.
  • Unwanted Harem: As much as Terry Perry respects the Monster Girls flocking to his side (well, most of them anyway), he's still trying to avoid being glomped all over by them.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Carla Delgado and Johnny Worthington are revealed to be this in later chapters. Apparently, Carla's the only one on campus who can tolerate Johnny's behavior, and tries to keep him out of trouble.
  • The Voiceless: Averted for Javier Rios as of chapter 5. He now speaks in most of the chapters he appears in.
  • Was It All a Lie?: The reason for Terry Perry's bitterness towards women, whenever he thinks about Naomi having laughed at him during the prank and what refrains him from romance.
    • The author revealed that the Terry brothers did NOT have a pleasant high school experience and that it contributed heavily to Terry's bitterness about possible manipulative relationships.
  • Weakness Turns Her On: Monnie towards Randall Boggs, as she always defends Randall from other Monsters who threaten him, especially against Johnny Worthington.
  • Weirdness Coupon: The various Fraternities and Sororities each have their own unique trait that gives them an edge in the Scare Games.
    • The PNK Sorority sisters can communicate telepathically with each other, and they also possess abilities such as able to see in the dark, breathing fire, and laser eyes.
    • The EEK Sorority sisters worked out so much with each sorority member that they can predict what maneuvers to perform with each other easily.
    • The JOX Fraternity brothers possess incredible super strength and are a incredibly loud and flashy crowd in nature, and they are not above cheating to win any event.
    • The HSS Sorority sisters are very mysterious and some of them are rumored to be masochistic. However no action is taken due to lack of evidence.
    • The ROR Fraternity brothers are proud and act very jerk-ish towards the other Fraternities and Sororities, but being the most famous Fraternity on campus makes them virtually untouchable due to the large amount of influence they have in terms of fame and status.
    • The OK Fraternity are a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits at best, but their diversity and unique abilities more than makes up for their given weaknesses, as seen from the film.
    • The EZ Sorority is the same as the OK Fraternity, but they also possess diversity and interesting skills that will see them become a strong opponent in later segments of the Scare Games.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Don Carlton is this towards his stepson Scott "Squishy" Squibbles, now Scott Carlton.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Only time and later chapters will tell if and most importantly, who Terry Perry will choose as his significant other in the story. So far, we readers know of the following Monster Girls: Naomi Jackson, Sonia Lewis and Maria Garcia, but there has been hints here and there that there could be many more.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Terry Perry's actions towards Naomi Jackson in Chapter 4, when he delivered a damning "The Reason You Suck" Speech to her, can be counted as this.
    • His brother (albeit understandably) doesn't really seem to let Terry live it down.
    • In chapter 7, Nadya reveals that she lampshaded this as well.
    • Completely inverted in chapter 6 when Terry Perry scolds Johnny for bad-mouthing the OK Fraternity.
  • Why Can't I Hate You?: Naomi Jackson towards Sonia Lewis and Maria Garcia, her two main competitors for Terry Perry's heart. Even though they are in the aforementioned contest, they are still VERY nice Greek Frat Row neighbors to the PNK sorority.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Implied to have been the case with Terry Perry. In the original film, him and the rest of Oozma Kappa believed that they were finally being accepted by the rest of the Greek row, only to end up being widely humiliated in the form of an incredibly mean prank. However, the yanking comes from the fact that the prank was very similar to one that the Perry twins endured by an Alpha Bitch that Terry was in love with. At that point, it seemed like Terry would finally recover from years of bullying and rejection, only to have those wounds reopened thanks to the ROR Fraternity.
  • Yes-Man: Chet Alexander of the ROR Fraternity acts as one of sorts to his president Johnny Worthington.
  • You Answered Your Own Question: During Laura's stern conversation with Sulley in Chapter 5, she asks Sulley how does she not know Sulley is using his best friend Mike as a way to help himself achieve his own ambitions? After Sulley's tear-jerking reaction, Laura was given her answer that Sulley has indeed changed for the better.
  • You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry!: Terry Perry is this. Just ask Naomi Jackson in chapter 4 and Johnny Worthington in Chapter 6. Both of them have received quite a damning scolding from him.
    • Invoked by both of the Perry twins in the nightmare sequences in Chapter 10. Terry is scary enough when he is angry but his brother... well let's just say his caused even some of the toughest monsters to break down in fearful tears. This reaches its terrifying climax when we see Naomi's dream...
