"You will be destroyed by the demons, while I will be made a god. My immortality is assured, while you will writhe in perpetual agony at the bottom of the darkest hole in Hell. You will be forgotten. Your life, your loved ones, your achievements and failures are nothing. A blank space on the canvas of time. Thank you for your service. May you rot in Hell."
Dr. Olivia Pierce, Doom (2016)

In the crusade pitting the Doomguy against the Legions of Hell, these characters stand out as particular blights. When encountering these foes, the best thing to do is "Rip and tear, until it is done."

Mainline Games

  • Doom³: Dr. Malcolm Betruger, upon allying with the forces of Hell, allows demons to invade Mars while deliberately keeping the portal open, resulting in the most of UAC personnel on Mars getting either slaughtered or possessed. When the Marine, having survived the initial chaos, starts clearing his way out of the complex, Betruger attempts to trick him into sending out a distress signal to Earth, hoping that demons will massacre the rescue teams and then use their ships to get to Earth, where they will proceed to either butcher or dominate the human race. After the signal is sent, he transforms Sergeant Thomas Kelly into a monster and sics him upon the Marine when the latter obtains the Soul Cube, the artifact that can seal the hell hole and stop the apocalypse. After being thwarted, Betruger resurfaces in Resurrection of Evil as a powerful demon known as Maledict and ruthlessly pursues the Engineer in order to achieve his diabolical goals.
  • 2016 game: Dr. Olivia Pierce turns to worship of Hell on Mars after the demons promise her godhood. Converting many of her colleagues to the worship of demons with the promises that the demons will assist in mankind's development, Olivia begins worshipping her masters with Human Sacrifice before unleashing the demons on the Martian facility, resulting in the deaths or possession of everyone there. Intending to make sure the demons live up to their end of the bargain, Olivia attempts to open the portal to Hell and offer all of humanity as a sacrifice to the demons. Revealing her only care is to her own power and impending deification, Olivia coldly leaves a message for her followers, revealing they will suffer forever and ever while she ascends to ultimate power alone.

Spin Offs

  • Doom RPG: Kronos was a UAC scientist who was experimenting with teleportation to Hell and merging flesh and steel. After he went too far with his research, UAC authorities promptly closed his project and sealed the portal to Hell. After becoming a demon, Kronos maintains his human mind and comes back to Mars under the guise of Dr. Guerard. He then proceeds to brainwash the base supervisors with the help of Mr. Nadira to open the portal again. After demons invade the base, he orders Dr. Jensen to be fired and locked up for standing in his way. When Guerard's treachery is discovered, he has Nadira killed by a demon and later overloads the portal, unleashing an even bigger horde of monsters and his past masterpiece, the Cyberdemon, before trying to kill the Marine himself.
  • Doom II RPG: Virtual Icon of Sin, or VIOS, is an AI of demonic origins that leads Hell's invasion on one of the Earth's moons. When the Player Character arrives to clean up the station, VIOS constantly attempts to intimidate him/her into feeding him a database of several UAC terminals; said database is implied to consist of human souls. Upon invading an Earth base, VIOS assimilates a UAC computer designated SAL and continues his attempts to manipulate the player, even torturing him/her with his telekinesis at one point. When confronted, VIOS tries to kill the player for good, even if the latter had been choosing to feed human souls to VIOS during the gameplay. VIOS clearly revels in the carnage he causes and displays a particular sadism in doing so.

Other Media

  • Worlds on Fire & Maelstrom, by Matthew Costello: Dr. Malcolm Betruger is a high-ranking scientist in the UAC facility on Mars, who at one point discovered the teleportation device, the "Gates", as well as the ancient artifact, called Soul Cube, which allowed him to contact demonic alien creatures from another dimension. Promising to release them on Mars in exchange for power, Betruger started experimenting with teleportation, first with animals, which mutated them horribly or made them feral, and then with humans, leading to the first subject dying in agony, as part of his throat was cut out, while the second subject went insane. For the third attempt, Betruger succeeded in opening a portal to the demons and releasing them on Mars, leading to them killing and turning most of the population of the base and Mars City into zombies. When Dr. MacDonald tried to contact Earth, Betruger broke his legs and left him as a meal to the demons.
  • Annihilation: Stanga is a malevolent alien entity and the overlord of demonic forces from another dimension. Desiring to destroy all life in the universe, Stanga manipulates humanity into finding the "Gates" on the moon Phobos and then corrupts the head of UAC base on Phobos, Dr. Malcolm Betruger, into opening a way for his demons to invade the facility, killing almost everyone there and transforming them into zombies. As the team of Marines arrives there, the overlord has Betruger manipulate them into opening a portal to Earth, while Marines die one by one, and then, when Lt. Joan Dark gets pushed into his dimension, Stanga taunts her by saying how weak and pathetic humans are, before he orders his demons to charge to Earth and annihilate humanity.
