"The Caped Avenger" provides examples of:

  • Assumed Win: This episode has Garfield assume his superhero identity of the Caped Avenger is going to be the basis of Jon's new cartoon. Nope, it's Odie and his far fancier outfit.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comparison: This exchange:
Garfield: Shhh. I found the mastermind behind the Pooky heist. See him there? (points at Mr. Mendelbaum) Look at those beady eyes, that obvious criminal face!
    (Odie barks in question.)
Garfield: No, not Jon, the other guy.
  • Big Eater: Garfield. As he searches the refrigerator for clues on Pooky's whereabout, he decides to eat all the food in it.
  • Companion Cube: Pooky is Garfield's favorite teddy bear, and Garfield treats him like he's real despite Jon trying to tell him otherwise. In this episode, Garfield believes Pooky to have been kidnapped after Jon puts him in the washing machine to clean him.
  • Irony: Garfield, as the Caped Avenger, declares that nothing gets by him. He's so busy boasting that he doesn't listen to Jon when he tells him that he put Pooky in the washing machine to clean him.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: Jon shows Mr. Mendelbaum, his boss, a sketch of a cartoon bear he came up with called Buddy Bearnote . Upon seeing it, Mr. Mendelbaum says he hates bears and is glad to have gotten rid of that stupid-looking bear. Garfield, who is looking for Pooky, overhears and thinks that Mr. Mendelbaum got rid of Pooky.
  • Pie in the Face: Garfield attacks Mr. Mendelbaum after accusing him of stealing Pooky. Jon comes in from the kitchen, holding a pie, and when Mr. Mendelbaum runs into him, the pie lands on Mr. Mendelbaum's head.
  • Ring-Ring-CRUNCH!: Garfield sets an alarm clock for his next meal just before Pooky goes missing. Just before Garfield discovers Pooky is gone, he smacks his alarm clock as it goes off.
  • Rude Hero, Nice Sidekick: Garfield as the Caped Avenger and Odie as Slurp fulfill these respective roles, given the former's lazy and snarky personality and the latter's energetic and affectionate personality.
  • Superheroes Wear Capes: As Garfield's superhero alter-ego is the Caped Avenger, he uses his blanket as a cape.

"Shy Fly Guy" provides examples of:

  • Absurd Phobia: Wade reveals to Orson that he's afraid of snow because it's cold and causes avalanches and blizzards. Upon hearing this, Orson tells Wade that he doesn't like sun because of sunburns and rain because of floods. Wade is aware of this, and asks Orson if they could just have no weather at all.
  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Fred wears a flight helmet with goggles, flight gloves, a parachute, and a weather vane on his tail.
  • Balloonacy: Wade takes to the skies after holding onto a bunch of balloons his friends give him.
  • The Cameo: At one point, Booker builds a sculpture of Odie out of snow.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Fred reveals to Wade that he keeps a parachute with him in the unlikely event that he falls out of the sky.
  • Heart Beats out of Chest: Wade's heart beats out of his chest when he sees just how high he's climbed while attempting to fly. His inner tube does this as well.
  • Human Snowman: Roy becomes a rooster version of this after a pile of snow files on him.
  • Nobody Calls Me "Chicken"!: When Fred calls him chicken, Wade tries to prove him wrong by attempting to fly, only to give up when he sees how high he's climbed. After he climbs back down the ladder, he clucks.
  • Ostrich Head Hiding: In the "I Should Fly" song, Wade envies the ostrich for hiding its head in the ground, saying he'd like to do that as well, given his cowardly nature.
  • Properly Paranoid: When Wade sees Orson about to drive the tractor, he worries that Orson will accidentally put it in reverse. Orson assures Wade that he won't, but Wade's fears are proven true when Orson accidentally does.
Orson: Don't you say one word!
Wade: Did I say anything? Did I?
  • Rhyming Title: Shy Fly Guy.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: This episode is about Wade trying to get over his fear of flying, and Orson not wanting anyone to interfere because it won't help unless Wade solves his problem on his own.
  • Toothy Bird: Despite being a duck, Fred is depicted with a huge pair of buck teeth.

"Green Thumbs Down" provides examples of:

  • Bittersweet Ending: This episode ends with Jon's garden getting flooded and ravaged by animals, and Jon has wasted all his money for nothing. All was not lost, however, as a head of lettuce and a few radishes were salvaged.
  • Exploding Calendar: Pages fall off of Jon's calendar to show how much time has passed while Jon has waited for something in his garden to grow.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The gopher puts on a hat, grabs a suitcase, and leaves after Garfield stops him from stealing Jon's crops.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: Jon has big grocery bills since he buys enough food to feed twenty people, due to Garfield's insatiable appetite.
  • Water-Geyser Volley: When Garfield attempts to flush out a gopher that steals Jon's crops, he and Odie get propelled into the air by geysers.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jon scolds Garfield for flooding his garden, accusing him of destroying all their hard work. However, he takes it all back when he sees the gopher that Garfield was trying to flush out leave the garden.
