Release Date: September 16, 1995
Candle Jack: Presented in Scream-O-Vision, on a camping trip at Camp Wennamigunnagohome with Steff, Freakazoid runs into the ghostly villain Candle Jack, who kidnaps and ties up anyone who says his name.
Toby Danger in Doomsday Bet: In a parody of Jonny Quest, the Danger family must stop a mad scientist from using the world's largest semiconductor to take over the world.
The Lobe: The Lobe operates on a captured Freakazoid.
Tropes Found in “Candle Jack”:
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: All over the place as usual, but one of the most notable examples is "I'm gonna need more rope."
- Genre Savvy: Departing from the camp, Freakazoid says he knows from cartoons that he'll have to return eventually and save the civilians from some kind of threat.
- Gilligan Cut: Discussed during the Shout-Out to F Troop.
- Moment Killer: The Scream-o-Vision goes off when Steff kisses Freakazoid, much to his irritation.
- Relax-o-Vision: The episode is presented in Scream-o-Vision. Every time something scary happens, a narrator says "Scream" in monotone, leading to a clip of people screaming. Freakazoid finds it very annoying.
- Shout-Out: After getting tied up for saying Candle Jack's name, Freakazoid explains he did this by referencing the F Troop episode where Agarn insisted wasn't going to be Disguised in Drag, only to be so after the Gilligan Cut. They then show the clip of this, which Tom Ruegger referred to as possibly the most classic clip they ever featured.
- Take That!: While the campers are telling ghost stories, Freakazoid mentions that the scariest thing in the world would be if they gave Sinbad another TV show, which terrifies the campers.
- Too Dumb to Live: To the point where the villain lampshades how this group is not particularly bright.
Tropes Found in “Toby Danger in Doomsday Bet”:
- Affectionate Parody: As noted on the commentary, the short was developed by Tom Minton and Mitch Schauer as the ultimate parody and tribute to Jonny Quest.
- Bait-and-Switch: During the climax, Dash rushes Dr. Sin for what promises to be an epic showdown, only for them to lightly karate chop each other.
- Noodle Incident: The sidewalk invention is said to be a byproduct of the meltdown of Sandra's hometown.
- Parody Assistance: Don Messick (Dr. Benton Quest in multiple versions) voiced Dr. Vernon Danger, Granville Van Dusen (Race Bannon in The New Adventures of Jonny Quest, two TV-Movies, and some episodes of Jonny Quest: The Real Adventures) voiced Dash O'Pepper, Scott Menville (Jonny Quest in The New Adventures of Jonny Quest) voiced Toby Danger, and Frank Welker (Bandit and additional voices in multiple versions) voiced a security guard.
- Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: Several instances of people screaming were rendered as characters saying "Aiiieeee!" as if it were dialogue, rather than an attempt to imitate the sound of a scream.
- Throw a Barrel at It: The Trope Namer.
Tropes Found in “The Lobe”:
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Steff is hypnotized into being the nurse for the Lobe's operation. When she's about to provide the anesthesia, Freakazoid provides his own by hitting himself with a mallet. Steff briefly snaps out of her trance to complain to the audience about her one bit in this short being taken away from her.
- Don't Explain the Joke: About to operate, the Lobe says he's going to find out what makes Freakazoid tick. He ends up pulling out a bomb with a timer.Freakazoid: Ha! See? It's ticking! You said, "Let's see what makes him tick." And there's a ticking time bomb. Get it?
- Early-Bird Cameo: Longhorn and Cobra Queen appear in the audience before their proper introductions later in the season.
