With Freddy, you'll never feel lonely again...

Alec stared at this stranger he thought was his sister. His resolve toward exposing her may have doubled, but he couldn’t deny he was genuinely impressed. He couldn’t have thought up half the mini-disasters she’d set loose in their house over this past week. He found himself lamenting the return to their separate islands once this whole ruse was over. Regardless of the reasons or the double- and triple-crossing at play, he was going to miss her. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt such a close camaraderie to this little stranger. Maybe he couldn’t remember because he’d never actually had one before.

Fifteen-year-old Alec is convinced that the world is out to get him, and it all started when his sister Hazel was born. As Hazel's tenth birthday approaches, she plans with him to prank their parents and get them to stop with their annoying methods of trying to make Alec behave. Believing she is somehow going to turn this against him, Alec decides to play along, up until Hazel's actual party. When he fails to reveal her as a brat, and realizes that she actually did just want to spend time with him, he retreats to a back corner of Freddy's... where he meets a small Lonely Freddy doll that gives him some new perspective.

The fifth Five Nights at Freddy's: Fazbear Frights story, and the second of the second book, Fetch.

Tropes related to “Lonely Freddy”:

  • And I Must Scream: A literal example, with Alec and the dozens of other people trapped inside Lonely Freddys screaming out as they're trapped inside a dumpster.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The Lonely Freddies, who have sinister intentions with whatever child they're left alone with.
  • Big Brother Bully: Previous to the story, Alec had pulled numerous pranks on his sister when he wasn't outright ignoring her, such as convincing her that a mosquito flying up her nose would lay eggs in there. She's absolutely terrified to enter his room, and leaves as soon as she drops off their parents' book.
  • Black Sheep: Alec, among his more normal and well-adjusted family.
  • Childish Older Sibling: Alec prefers to play video games and ignore the world, while Hazel is responsible and steps up to help her mother pass out plates at the party.
  • Cool Aunt: Alec admires his Aunt Gigi above anyone else, as she seems to understand him better than the rest of his family. Hazel later blurts out that the family moved to this town solely to be closer to her in hopes that it would help Alec's behavior.
  • Dead Guy Junior: Hazel is named after a beloved grandmother. Alec scornfully finds this as another example of favoritism towards her, as his name was a compromise between the "Alexander" and "Eric" his parents were fighting over.
  • Downer Ending: Alec has his body forcibly swapped by a Lonely Freddy and is locked away in a dumpster alongside dozens of other imprisoned souls.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Alec is an angry slacker, while Hazel is a polite and helpful girl. As part of Hazel's plan to befriend her brother and get her parents to stop using their parenting books, Hazel suggests they switch roles, and thus Alec becomes polite and considerate, while Hazel becomes rambunctious and rude.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The target of the Lonely Freddies, which were built to entertain friendless children at parties.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Hazel has a collection of plushies, and her Mom tells Aunt Gigi that all she's been talking about is possibly winning the Yarg Foxy plush. It turns out she only wanted the plush to give to Alec, who loved the character and was never invited to a party where he could have gone into the wind tunnel.
  • Grand Theft Me: Lonely Freddy switches its mind with that of a child, going home with their family while the child in the Lonely Freddy animatronic is found to be faulty and discarded.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Played straight with Hazel and her "angelic ringlets," subverted with Alec and his "hay-colored hair."
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Alec admits to himself that he would probably calm down if his parents actually asked him what was wrong and listened instead of trying desperately to fix him. He also started acting out more after Hazel was born, feeling that she stole his attention.
  • Improperly Paranoid: Alec is convinced that Hazel is a cunning mastermind trying to make his life worse, and that everyone in the world hates him. It turns out Hazel's just a little sister who looks up to her brother and wants his affection.
  • Jerkass Realization: After blowing up at Hazel, Alec realizes that she really does love him, and that his family has been trying to help him the entire time. Unfortunately for him, the Lonely Freddy spots him just then.
  • Karma Houdini: The Freddy that steals Alec's body escapes with no punishment, among dozens of others.
  • Killer Teddy Bear: The Lonely Freddies, though they less "kill" you and more "take over your life and imprison you in a toy forever." Same difference.
  • Monster of the Week: Lonely Freddy.
  • My Greatest Failure: Lonely Freddy ends his spiel by asking Alec what his biggest regret is, which he admits is disappointing Hazel.
  • Never My Fault: Alec feels like this until his Heel Realization.
  • No Full Name Given: The main family is never given a surname.
  • Parental Favoritism: It becomes very clear to Alec that he's The Un-Favorite and Hazel is the golden child. In truth, his parents are simply trying to get him to behave, and spoil Hazel because they feel guilty for focusing so much on her brother.
  • The Prankster: Hazel becomes this when teaming up with Alec, and he has to admit she's pretty good at thinking these things up.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Alec is an angry, sullen boy, versus his happy, friendly sister.
  • Spiders Are Scary: One of Hazel's pranks is letting a giant spider loose in the house. It turns out she's not afraid of it, though their parents very much are.
  • The Strategist: Hazel, who's better at thinking up plans than her brother, whose default plan is to continue acting out.
  • Symbolically Broken Object: The Yarg Foxy; during Alec's explosion at Hazel, he rips its arm.
  • Troubled Teen: Alec has been confrontational and angry for years, despite his parents' attempts to control him. He's not entirely sure what his own issue is, only that he's "different" from the rest of his family.
  • Uncertain Doom: Alec and the other Lonely Freddys are left in the dumpster to be discarded as the story ends. The Ultimate Guide later suggests that the toys may be intentional Remnant Collectors, which would spell an even worse fate for the children as someone will eventually come to collect that remnant.
  • Unwilling Roboticisation: When Alec is turned into a Lonely Freddy, and the Freddy takes his place.
  • Youthful Freckles: On both Hazel and Alec.
