- "There was a fourth one?" note A common Take That! to the franchise is to joke about how the third sequel, On Stranger Tides, is considered so mediocre that people forget it existed. The same applies for the fifth one, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Disney can go dark! note A common Take That! towards people that believe current day Disney is too kid-friendly is to point them in the direction of Davy Jones shoving his beard tentacles into Mercer's orifices to kill him. Heck, most, if not all, of the other instances of Nightmare Fuel from this franchise are arguably applicable here

- "Hoist the Colors" has become a meme on TikTok and YouTube, usually for scary sea animal and thalassophobia videos.
