     General Fics

  • The Fields Grown Wild by Ardill the Traveller
    • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
    • Status: Complete
    • Synopsis: Link leaves the forest for the first time, believing it will kill him but determined to carry out the Great Deku Tree's dying wish. The land he finds outside is at once peaceful and haunted, abandoned fields and empty villages silent testament to the vicious war fought barely a decade before, and the bones of the children less lucky than Link still rise each night...

  • The Animals Aged by Shadsie
    • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
    • Status: Complete
    • Synopsis: "He’s going to grow up into a big, strong stag," Saria said. “Strong…” Link mused, looking with pride upon his fawn. “I think you’ll grow up, too, big and strong, like a stag.” The forest had lessons for Link, what it was to be Kokiri- or Hylian.

  • Friends Between Ages by InkRose98
    • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
    • Status: Complete

  • Group of Weirdos by Mr. Light Chicken Bulbs

  • The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (DragonRand100) by Dragon Rand 100-the eagle1989
    • Recommended by: Patar 136
    • Status: Completed on February 10, 2017
    • Synopsis: This is the tale of an ancient land of lush forests and verdant meadows. A land blessed by the Goddesses where the powers of light and shadow exist in perfect balance. This is the story of the kingdom of Hyrule, of a king who sought to control the power of the gods, and of a boy without a fairy. A boy whose struggle against the shadow became a legend, riding upon the winds of time.
    • Comments: This is a very well crafted story and a worthy adaptation that feels faithful while being its own creation. I have read this several times and there is a lot to appreciate and a lot to explore. It feels like a novel at some points and I am surprised it hasn't been shared before on this website. There are some complaints in regard to certain aspects of the story but I can't help but praise this for feeling like a fleshed out version of this great tale of heroism and valor.

  • In His Shadow by LiveTheLegend
    • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
    • Status: Complete
    • Synopsis: During Hyrule's bloody and infamous Unification War, a young family is torn apart. Their two sons are left separated, neither knowing the other exists. Link grew up surrounded by the mystery and magic of Kokiri Forest; Dark has grown up haunted by the memories of his parents' death and the man who murdered them: Ganondorf. An alternate re-telling of the story of Ocarina of Time.

  • At Length by Kibasgirltsumi
    • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
    • Status: Complete
    • Synopsis: After Link's seven-year-long sleep, the first thing he wants to do is see his best friend again, but comfort is hard to find as he is forced to adjust to change and consistency.

  • Heart of Courage by Blizzaga Saga (formerly Dannondorf)
    • Recommended by: Draconic
    • Status: Dormant
    • Pairings: Saria/Link
    • Synopsis: The dead are rising in Hyrule Field as they did long ago when the King of Evil ruled. The Hylians have barricaded themselves in the overcrowded Castle Town, and a boy's quest to save his friend becomes a quest to save his kingdom.
    • Comments: This is a very emotional story. It has a dark tone, but a lot of heart, and its villains are particularly original. The only complaint this troper has about this fic is that it has more than a few original characters. On the other hand, they're very good original characters, so this complaint really isn't valid.

  • Malon's Epic Cow Delivery by The Additional Pylon
    • Recommended by: Progeny Ex Machina
    • Status: Complete.
    • Sypnosis: No summary can do this fic justice. It starts out as a simple No Fourth Wall tale of how Malon was able to deliver a cow to Link's house after the optional horse-racing sidequest in Ocarina of Time. Randomness and Cerebus Syndrome battle it out until it ends in a Massively Multiplayer Crossover (heavy emphasis on Final Fantasy) with the characters gearing up to fight the war they triggered by breaking the fourth wall. Contains humor, drama, action, friendship, slight romance (Malon/Link), and just about everything else.

  • Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time by Arxane

  • Legend of Zelda: The Return by Rose Zemlya
    • Recommended by: Shay Guy, Malonromani
    • Status: Completed 10-31-03
    • Synopsis: Takes place after OoT, with the assumption that Link lost all of his memories of the events in the game when Zelda sent him back in time.

  • The Ocarina Of Time by Peptuck
    • Recommended by: corin, l3wt
    • Pairing: Strong hints of Link/Malon
    • Status: Incomplete, The author announce his intention of resuming it in 2020.
    • Synopsis: Exactly What It Says on the Tin: An in-depth novelization of Ocarina of Time written by the same author behind Tiberium Wars. Deviates somewhat from the story, mostly for narrative reasons and to improve the dungeon sequences. Integrates elements of Twilight Princess into the plot.

  • Red Inheritance by The Loud Guy (Pre-OoT)
    • Recommended by: Isaac Masterpiece
    • Status: Dormant
    • Synopsis: Told from a young Nabooru's point of view, this one-shot reflects the young Gerudo's pondering over the future King of Evil. Includes some interesting dialogue regarding Ganondorf's motivations.
      • Has now been revived as a series telling the games from Ganondorf's perspective, starting with Ocarina of Time.

  • Shadowed by Cere (Also found here and here).
    • Recommended by: jaimeastorga2000
    • Status: Abandoned
    • Synopsis: As the plot of Ocarina of Time draws to a close, Ganondorf finishes his greatest creation; Vindari, a monster with the power to warp time. Soon thereafter he finds himself slain at the hands of the Hero of Time. Distraught, Vindari does the only thing he can do, and travels back in time to the beginning of the game. Thus begins a retelling of Ocarina of Time, with one extra character around who knows what things are yet to come, and who is going to help Ganondorf prepare for them...

  • Awesomeness of the Ocarina: The Shameless Deconstruction and Parody of a Well Respected Game by Villain-of-Awesome

  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Novel by zeldamaster8472
    • Recommended by Draconic
    • Status: Completed
    • Synopsis: I always felt that the Zelda series deserved a novel, something that tells the story we're all familiar with, except with the kind of plot and character development more often found in literature than in video games. The seeds are there in the game, but sometimes they have to be drawn out. Believe it or not, this project came close to commercial publication. See intro for more.
    • Comments: Despite the odd synopsis, this is one of the best Zelda stories this troper has read, and is easily of publishable quality. There are a lot of Ocarina of Time novelizations, some of them are good, some of them are bad, some of them never even come close to being finished. This is one of the best.

  • Adventures in Time by Goodlordgod1
    • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
    • Status: Ongoing
    • Synopsis: What If? Link asked Sheik to go with him and Navi once he pulled the sword? What If she accepted?

  • Barn-Top Confessions, by Glaucus Atlanticus

    • Synopsis: “You never did tell me how old you are, fairy boy.” Link freezes, one hand on Epona’s coat and the other checking her teeth. It’s a simple question, and he knows Malon doesn’t mean anything by it. A simple question for anybody but him.
    • Note: Now has a sequel, A Burden Shared, possibly with more on the way. Both reference the events of Majora's Mask, indicating that Malon went through something similar to Romani.

  • Growing Pains by Tired_Twili

Not once did she reach out, simply observing. It had led to a few curious decoveries. As it turned out, the hero was... well- clumsy.

    • Status: One-Shot
    • Pairing: Link/Malon

Link retaliates, but the result sends him hurling through dimensions to land in Earthland, back in his child's body. Follows storyline of Fairy Tail with Link added to the mix while he tries to find a way to return to Hyrule.
    • Comments: This is not an average sent to a new world fic, Link as been in Earthland for 8 years when the story starts and has relationships with the characters and his own original story that are expanded in flashbacks.
