Go To

Where's My Goddamn Dinosaur? is a Batman fanfiction created by njw. It's now a series, with several side stories and a sequel called Love is Like a Batarang.

The end of the world came and Tim Drake is one of the few heroes left alive. Using an absolute last resort contingency for such a situation, he uses a device that will send him and a clone of himself back in time. The original will travel back to an optimal date that will allow him to prevent the apocalypse from happening. The clone will travel to a parallel universe on an unspecified date, never to reunite with his original loved ones.

So, of course, it sends the clone back to the day Jason Todd died.

This Fan Fic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Janet Drake, whose intelligence matches Other Tim's. She's smart enough to find out Bruce is Batman for years, and quickly see through the deception attempt by Other Tim to disguise himself as her nephew. She confronts him and proposes that he masquerade as an older twin brother of Tiny Tim.
  • Alternate Universe:
    • The universe that Other Tim travels to where he saves Jason. It's actually a relatively new universe that was created by that particularly divergence. Because of that, Other Tim can't travel to another universe without destabilizing his current one.
    • There's a third universe which Other Batman uses as a neutral ground to (temporarily kidnap) Batman to tell him how badly he failed his children. Dick is a Star Sapphire; Selina Kyle adopts Tim and Jason, with them adopting a cat-themed suits; Dick and Jason are in a relationship while Tim is an relationship with an aged-up Damian; and Alfred and Bruce are female, although still going by Batman because Gotham wouldn't have accepted a female vigilante.
    • Other Batman in fact threatens to send Original Batman to several other, more horrifying alternate universes to keep him going with his reconciliation with his children. One is where Dick, Jason, and Tim are in a polyamorous relationship with Roy Harper and were adopted by Oliver Queen, their group name dubbed 'The Rainbow Quiver'; one where all his children are in relationships with villains (Dick with Deathstroke, Tim with Ra's, Damian with Lexie Luthor and, perhaps most horrifying of all, Jason in a polyamorous relationship with Talia and Bruce); and finally, one where they're not only female but also pregnant with Superman's children (Kryptonians apparently formed harem-like relationships in that universe).
  • Artificial Human: Conner Kent/Kon-El.
  • Ass Shove: After taking Other Bruce's advice, Original Bruce starts to reach out to his kids and being nice to them. Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian being paranoid think that he is either being mind controlled or has been replaced by a clone or shapeshifter. While interrogating Bruce, Tim performs a cavity check on him. Much to Buttman's horror and Batman's amusement.
  • Atrocious Alias: Original Bruce ends up being dubbed Buttman by Other Bruce.
  • Bad Future: Where future Tim comes from.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Other Tim saves Other Jason from the warehouse and he used the batplane to reach it.
  • Blatant Lies / Brutal Honesty: Jason Todd, as the gem shows, as immediately afterwards Jason grills Bruce about whether Other Tim is a replacement Robin or a secret love child.
This situation calls for a delicate touch. Jason's all about delicate. Really.
  • invokedCrack Ship: In-universe case, regarding Two-face and the Riddler being a couple, which is basically a Brain Bleach for the Batclan.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Tim. He had planned, should he have traveled too far back in time, to either kickstart the industrial revolution or kidnap baby Hitler. He also created a virus to inform Bruce of future events.
  • Deliberately Cute Child: Tiny Tim.
  • Easily Thwarted Alien Invasion: Adverted. The aliens slaughter most of Earth's defenders and attack with such speed and efficiency that the world governments and the superhero community can't react fast enough.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Talia is disgusted by her father's Ra actions toward Timmy.
  • False Flag Operation: To prevent Gotham from being devastated by Batman: Cataclysm, Other Bruce concoct a plan to have a very public vacation with his family in a place the Legacy Drive says there will a moderate earthquake, thus justifying the zeal that Other Bruce decides to make sure not all Gotham falls apart in the earthquake.
  • Fantastic Nuke: The aliens used "planet-killer bombs" to vaporize everything on Earth's surface.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
  • Hitler's Time Travel Exemption Act: Played with. Other Tim had plans to kidnap baby Hitler and give him to a kind Jewish family in the Bronx but Bruce points out that the sociopolitical climate and facts that caused the Second World War would still be in place. note
  • Papa Wolf: Other Bruce towards Tim, which increases when he meets Tiny Tim.
  • Footnote Fever: Probably parodied.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Talia and Janet torture Ra to death after he attempts to molest fourteen year old Timmy. They also render him immune to Lazarus waters.
  • MacGuffin: The Legacy Drive, a virus cointaining vast information on future events, organizations and people.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Tim, both versions. He calls it my precious.
  • Never the Selves Shall Meet: Subverted. Because it's an Alternate Universe, Tim, Bruce and Dick go visit younger Tim (nicknamed Tiny Tim or just Timmy) to retrieve his photographs and bring him to Wayne Manor.
  • Not Blood Siblings: Name dropped by Jason. Especially notable because Jason was dead when Bruce adopted Tim.
  • Old Man Marrying a Child: After disowning both Talia and Damian, Ra decides that he needs a new legacy. To achieve this he kidnaps Younger Tim, since the older one is harder to get at, and breed with him via an artificial womb. He even attempts to obtain a semen sample himself from a barely fourteen year old Timmy.
  • One-Steve Limit: Subverted, as we met at least three different versions of Tim, although they are given an adjective to disguish the alteregos. Jason later does a Lampshade Hanging when he asks if Other Tim is going to change his name.
  • Peggy Sue: The plot. The kind of time travel is more complex because of the use of a "doomsday device" it sends two Tims back in time. One travels one back in time to save the Earth and another Tim travels five years back in time.
  • Properly Paranoid: All the Bat boys. When Bruce starts acting out of character, they immediately compare notes and throw him into a holding cell.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Janet Drake's plan to masquerade Other Tim as an older twin brother of Tiny Tim, confident that the soap opera value and the fact that Gotham City has seen weirder stuff will obfuscate the logical fallacy.
  • Shovel Talk: Damian gives one to Jason and Tim, that if they ever hurt each, he would castrate them both.
  • Sir Swearsalot: Jason Todd, even before he died. Notably Jason's POV chapters have the most swearing and even when he's not the POV character he's still the one who swears the most.
  • Slash Fic: The main pairing is Jason/Tim and it develops on both timelines.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Other Tim rescues Jason Todd from the warehouse before it explodes.
  • Title Drop: The titular dinosaur appears in the epilogue as a giant plush which Other Jason gifts to Other Tim in the one aniversary of him rescuing Jason.
