Lethal Job is a Spider-Man/Inside Job (2021) Crossover fanfic by Epiclot214.

Eddie Brock is looking for the next big scoop. He meets a strange man by the name of Rand Ridley who tells him about a mysterious corporation that secretly controls the entire government. Eddie finds himself discovering a world he didn't know exist, and after being bonded to a strange symbiote, he finds himself ensconced in a world of mystery and danger:

This fanfic contains the following examples.

  • Abusive Parents: In addition to Rand being one for Reagan and Brett's neglectful ones, Eddie also had one in his father, Carl, who blamed him for his wife's death by giving birth to him, even going as far as to whip him with his belt.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Eddie and how he became the host of Venom becomes a much different backstory:
    • Eddie was tricked by Rand into going undercover at Cognito and while escaping from a giant robot sent to collect him, he stumbles into a room where aliens are kept, and accidentally breaks the jar containing the symbiote, and is exposed to it.
    • The Symbiote also arrived on a meteor and was found and studied by Rand. When Rand was let go from Cognito, Reagan inherited the Symbiote and kept it in a jar.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Rafe Masters has gone from being an agent of MI-6 to an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Or rather, AIM.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Rafe Masters is secretly an agent of AIM.
  • Bedmate Reveal: Eddie and Reagan wake up to see each other naked in the same bed and realize they drunkenly had sex.
  • Canon Welding:
    • The Atlantis of Inside Job has been replaced with the one from Marvel. Likewise, the same has been done with the Illuminati.
    • The rogue moon colony is stated to be situated in the Blue Area where the Watcher maintains his vigil. Their advanced city is also explained as being an abandoned Inhumans settlement.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Venom, who is happy to make jokes at Eddie's expense.
  • Death by Adaptation: Buzz Aldrin and the rest of the moon colonists are revealed to be victims of a Kill and Replace by Skrulls.
  • Double Take: It takes Eddie three seconds after taking a picture of Reagan to realize that she was standing right in front of him.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Reagan flips out when Eddie offers her sympathy over her situation with Rand.
  • The Dreaded: The Skrulls are terrified of the Klyntar, with the Skrulls that infiltrated the moon base retreating once Venom reveals himself. Their Queen, Veranke, even reacts with fear and shock upon hearing of the presence of a Klyntar on Earth.
  • Everyone Has Standards: During the morning after Reagan and Eddie's drunken night of sex, Venom assures them that he didn't get involved; as much of a Deadpan Snarker he is to the two of them, he does have enough respect for them to not take advantage of them like that.
  • Fusion Fic: As with Epiclot’s other works, the story fuses the two worlds rather than just having a character from one be in the other.
  • He Knows Too Much: Reagan immediately plans to assassinate Eddie to keep him from telling the world about Cognito Inc.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Reagan and J.R. tell Eddie he can either work as their assassin or be killed to cover up their secrets. Eddie chooses to work as their agent.
  • Off with His Head!: Venom bites the head off of an unfortunate guard while trying to escape from Cognito's security.
  • Painful Transformation: Being transformed is not a pretty thing to go through for Eddie. It even includes an Orifice Invasion.
  • Persona Non Grata: After an incident where he swindled Namor out of some Atlantean booze, Rand Ridley is banned from the ocean on pain of it being considered a decleration of war.
  • Required Secondary Powers: When Eddie learns about how chocolate can help fulfill most of Venom's dietary needs, he grows worried about getting diabetes, only for Venom to assure him that the latter'll be able to enhance his metabolism to compensate.
  • Shoot the Television: Rand throws beer bottles at the television, frustrated the "sheeple" can't figure out the rocks supposedly brought from the moon were fake.
  • Shout-Out:
  • The Stool Pigeon: Rand decides to act at this for Cognito Inc out of spite of being forced out of the company.
  • Unperson: Reagan planned to do this to Eddie: not merely killing him, but wiping out all traces of him from existence, including the memories any family members might have of him.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Rand uses Eddie in an attempt to bring Cognito down out of spite for having him fired.
