History's Strongest Shinobi is a crossover fanfic of Naruto and Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple written by Kenchi 618.

"On that day years ago they put their faith in him, Naruto made a promise that he would be the best ninja he could be. Either all alone, or together with friends he was going to make his family proud. Whether the ninja underworld wanted him to or not he'd either die trying, or become the strongest shinobi in history."

Tropes for History's Strongest Shinobi:

  • Adults Are Useless: Naruto holds this view due to his past as he admits he has no positive role models in his life. The Masters on both sides mostly avert this though.
  • Bag of Holding: Naruto's bag remains unexplained.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: The argument Naruto and Kenichi have on how to deal with Ragnarok. Kenichi prefers a wait and see approach, that allows both to avoid Ragnarok but leave them perpetually on the defensive. Naruto just wants to go Leeroy Jenkins on them, which could end the problem quickly... or force their opponents to come down on them in force. Bottom line is that the enemy has to be dealt with somehow.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: Naruto apparently has a significant one on his chest after one of his early dealings with trying to infiltrate Ryouzanpaku.
  • Heroic Rematch: The first time Naruto fights Neji, he's barely able to scratch him. The second time around makes for a much more even battle.
  • Hidden Depths: Naruto tends to come across as an idiot before he can give a proper first impression. He's actually quite the people person and can be very creative. He can also be very mature at times such as the first time he met Renka, he apologizes for his Hot-Blooded behaviour and asks if they can start over.
  • Honor Before Reason: Kenichi. Although he does become more flexible as time goes on.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Naruto shoots Sai clean through with an arrow thanks to a Dou-induced power boost.
    • Tenten kills YOMI's bow disciple with a trick shot knife throw that hits her from behind.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While out getting information on his target Naruto, Neji goes to a meeting between Ragnarok members. During their conversation, Odin offers him a spot in Ragnarok. Neji responds that he's got better things to do than join a "cute little gang" treating their fights for high school territory like Serious Business. Considering Neji is there to assassinate Naruto, it's made clear this isn't his first assignment and he comes close to killing Naruto, the previous conflict between Naruto and Kenichi fighting Ragnarok seems childish in comparison.
  • Like Reality, Unless Noted: The world in this fic is fairly close to ours in how it works that at times it feels like a Slice of Life Highschool story.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: An unstable Dou-boosted Naruto gives one to Sai during the D of D Tournament, effectively rearranging his face with his bare hands.
    • Naruto accidentally gives one to Hinata back during their basic training days which results in him being expelled from the program, and her permanent blindness.
  • Noodle Incident: Most of Naruto's failed attempts on Ryouzanpaku are never explained in full, though the details of some are touched upon with no context given.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Well Shigure, what did YOU expect to happen when you snuck into Naruto's home and threatened to hurt him if he didn't come to Ryouzanpaku?
  • Roof Hopping: Naruto alternates between this, and complicated, ever-changing back routes to keep anyone from following him home.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Kenichi learns that Shiratori is a girl moments after knocking her unconscious during their fight. Whoops.
  • Training from Hell: Naruto receives this from both Shigure, to better learn how to use his weapons of choice, and Jiraiya, who never agreed with Konoha's decision about his fate.
  • Trash Talk: Naruto basically has this as his second language.
  • Tsundere: Renka to Naruto. Although she's mostly dere to Naruto and her tsun side is easily dealt with. Also Freya, who won't even admit it to herself... At least at first
  • Villains Act, Heroes React: Very early in their dealings with Ragnarok, Naruto and Kenichi have an argument surrounding this trope with Naruto showing frustration at having to wait for Ragnarok members to pick when they get to attack instead of taking the fight to them. Later in the story, after Ragnarok is dissolved and Yami and Konoha enter the conflict, Naruto and Shikamaru note that they can't afford to sit back like before since their current opponents are aiming to kill them and they'd rather set the pace this time since they're fighting a war on three fronts. At first all the other members of the Shade Alliance are hesitant to agree but after Sasuke blows up their HQ and injures Siegfried, they agree to change their strategy.
  • Wall of Weapons: Both Shigure and Naruto have rooms with wall-to-wall weapons in their respective homes.
  • Walking Armory: Naruto has several, including the manriki-gusari (weighted chain), a bow and arrow, and even his own backpack.
