Joan Allen (born August 20, 1956 in Rochelle, Illinois) is an American actress.
Her acting career began in 1977 when John Malkovich invited her to join the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago, a membership she has maintained to this day.
Since then, she has enjoyed an award-winning career across theatre, film, television, and voice acting, including comedies, dramas, biopics, and a video game.
She was married to Peter Friedman and they have one child.
