     Detective Sergeant Miranda Blake
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miranda_blake.jpg
Played by: Elen Rhys

A detective with the Metropolitan Police in London who came to Mallorca to collect a criminal who was about to turn on the rest of his gang in order to return to the UK. When the operation went wrong, she was made to stay on the island on secondment with the Spanish police. She was promoted from Detective Constable at the end of Series 1.

  • The Ace: Miranda seems to be good at everything she turns her hand to: she beats Max in their cycle race and their penalty shootout and she is much better at horse-riding than he is, despite saying she doesn't care for it.
  • Action Girl: In 'The Oligarch's Icon' Miranda says she has a green belt in an unspecified martial art. She frequently chases after suspects, often throwing them to the ground.
  • Berserk Button: Do not make a sexist remark around Miranda.
  • By-the-Book Cop: Miranda berates Max for not following procedure in 'Honour Amongst Thieves' and 'The Oligarch's Icon', although there are instances where she will break the rules to solve a case when she decides expediency is required, such as when she breaks into Esteban Domenech's motorhome in 'King of the Mountains'. Inés refers to her as 'the woman who loves procedure' in 'The Maestro'.
  • British Stuffiness: Miranda is emotionally closed and does not like being touched. In 'Number One Fan' she tells Max that she doesn't want to let anyone in and is shown to be uncomfortable when he hugs her.
  • Catchphrase: Miranda often mutters or yells ‘what the hell, Max!’
  • Claustrophobia: hinted at in ‘King of the Mountains’ and part of the storyline in ‘Number One Fan’, when Miranda reluctantly discusses its origins and Max tries to help her face her fear.
  • Competition Freak: Miranda cannot stand losing. She trains so hard before her cycle race with Max in 'King of the Mountains' that he thinks she has been taking steroids; she says that her competitiveness means that people don't like her very much.
  • Cowboy Cop: Max can have a casual relationship with rules and procedure, and generally relies on gut instinct. The trope is played with in a scene in 'The Maestro' where Max and Miranda track a suspect down to a Wild West theme bar: Max shouts 'yee-ha', asks Miranda if he can smash a chair, and moodily places his gun on the table.
  • Foreign Queasine: Miranda refuses to try sobrasada and scorns the Spanish preference for paprika-flavoured crisps in 'A Dish Served Cold'. She expresses disdain for Max’s German food in 'Mallorca's Most Wanted'.
  • Hates Being Touched: Miranda refuses Max's hugs on multiple occasions and moves away when he sits touching her in 'Number One Fan'.
  • No Social Skills: Miranda can be awkward and comes off cold, as in 'Death in the Morning', when Max more than once has to encourage her to comfort a grieving widow. In 'The Maestro', to Max's horror she insensitively tells another grieving widow that she is the likeliest suspect, according to data.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Miranda frequently needs to be filled in on the world of celebrity and pop culture; her parents thought TV rotted the brain. Max has to explain a famous German music mogul and his reality show in 'Ex Factor'. She is also unaware of top cyclist Esteban Domenech and leading model Valentina.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: Miranda is displeased in 'Honour Amongst Thieves' when she is told she must remain on the island indefinitely; while Max loves Mallorca, she has previously sarcastically called it 'a charming place' and remarked 'who'd want to live in a place like this?'.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Miranda often comes across as cold and closed off, but shows her warmer side on occasion, usually with Max; in 'The Blue Feather' she gives him a bird book as a present.
  • Workaholic: Miranda is dedicated to her job and is seen on several occasions getting up in the early hours to get back to work on a case. In 'Honour Amongst Thieves' Inés reports what Miranda's boss in London has said about her: 'she's obsessive... she's a workaholic... never had a relationship'.

     Detective Max Winter
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/max_winter.jpg
Played by: Julian Looman

Initially seconded to Mallorca from his native Germany for 6 months, Max liked it so much he asked to stay and had been attached to the Spanish police for three years when the series began.

  • The Charmer: Max charms and flirts his way through situations that help solve some cases, such as when he gets himself and Miranda into an invitation-only wake in 'Honour Amongst Thieves' and when he goes undercover at a casino in 'To Kill a Stag'. Lampshaded by both him and Miranda in the latter episode.
  • Cuddle Bug: Max frequently tries, and usually fails, to hug Miranda.
  • German Humor: Usually averted in Max's case as he is the joker of the partnership, but his supposedly funny message in Inés's birthday card in 'Number One Fan' falls flat with everyone, which he covers for by claiming it's funny in German.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Max mentions Hasselhoff amongst a list of artists whose work he knows well in 'Friend Henry'.
  • Hidden Depths: Max often surprises Miranda with his knowledge of literature and the arts. In 'The Maestro' he reveals he knows a lot about opera and has been to many performances, while in 'Friend Henry' he recognises and listens to Mahler. In 'To Kill a Stag' he quotes Austrian playwright Franz Grillparzer.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Max's food obsession includes fanboying over top chefs, seen in 'A Dish Served Cold' when he interviews Michelin-starred chef-patron Sebastia Serra.
  • Not a Morning Person: Max is woken by Miranda on multiple occasions. He asks, 'why always so early?'
  • Obsessed with Food: Max is often eating and loves both Spanish and German food. He is seen tucking into ice creams, German sausage, Bierocks, pastries, and sobrasada, which Miranda says he is obsessed with in 'A Dish Served Cold'.
  • Pungeon Master: Max cannot resist a good pun; they are a pundamental part of his humour. Miranda is usually unimpressed by them.
  • Why Couldn't You Be Different?: Max says in 'Sour Grapes' that his father was unhappy that he chose to join the police instead of taking over the family car part manufacturing business. His dad, unlike him, is 'ultra-super-competitive', as he tells Miranda in 'King of the Mountains'.

     Police chief Inés Villegas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ines_villegas.jpg
Played by: Maria Fernandez Ache

A native Mallorcan, Inés is not to be messed with. She is frequently on Max and Miranda's cases, demanding they carry out their jobs more quickly and efficiently.

  • Da Chief: Police chief Inés has no patience for her officers messing things up or not being efficient. In 'King of the Mountains', she tells Max and Miranda, 'you've got one more day to find them [the supposed kidnappers] or I'm putting you on currency touts for a month'.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Inés likes her coffee strong. In 'Ex Factor' she is suffering because her espresso machine is broken.
  • Shipper on Deck: Inés teases Miranda by calling Max her boyfriend in 'Number One Fan' and has apparently told others there is a 'thing' between them in 'Mallorca's Most Wanted'. She frequently gives knowing looks when they are together.

     Carmen Lorenzo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carmen_lorenzo.jpg
Played by: Tábata Cerezo

Carmen is Max's girlfriend. She is a street artist and works in her father's bar.

  • You Never Did That for Me: Carmen is jealous of Max risking his life to save Miranda’s in ‘Ex Factor’, implying she thinks Miranda is more important to him than she is.

     Christian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/christian_7.jpg
Played by: Denis Schmidt

Christian is Max's best friend; they grew up together in Munich. He works on Mallorca as a chauffeur.

  • Amateur Sleuth: In 'To Kill a Stag', Christian takes it upon himself to go undercover and track down a suspect the police are having trouble finding.
  • Childhood Friends: Max and Christian grew up together in Munich.
  • No Full Name Given: Max’s friend Christian never has his surname revealed, even in the credits.

     Roberto Herrero
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roberto_herrero.jpg
Played by: Alex Hafner

Roberto is a pathologist and replaced Federico Ramis. He is prone to gloominess, mostly wears black, and loves chocolate and heavy metal. He has a dry sense of humour, saying of his perky mentee, Luisa, 'either we will fall madly in love or I will kill her'.

  • Goth: Roberto wears dark clothing and eyeliner, likes heavy metal, and often talks about death, more than in the factual manner that is required by his job. In 'The Maestro' he says 'for some, the pain of living is too great.. they long for the abyss'.
  • Sweet Tooth: Roberto enjoys sugary treats. In 'Son of a Pig' he is eating chocolate at a crime scene and in 'A Dish Served Cold' he tucks into Max's pastry with relish.

     Luisa Rosa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/luisa_rosa.jpg
Played by: Nansi Nsue

Luisa is Roberto's mentee and works with him in the morgue. She is perky and glides around the morgue in Heelies.

  • Genius Ditz: Pathologist Luisa Rosa is clumsy, very enthusiastic, and has a fondness for bright, patterned clothing, yet appears to be very thorough and competent. She drops items and interrupts the investigation of a break-in in 'The Blue Feather'. In 'The Maestro' and 'Son of a Pig' she quickly runs extensive tests that lead to breakthroughs in the cases.

     Joan Lorenzo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/joan_lorenzo3.jpg
Played by: Carlos Olalla

Joan is the father of Carmen. He owns the bar where the main characters drink in most episodes.

  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: He can sometimes be quite hostile towards Max when he thinks he is messing Carmen around. In 'Sour Grapes' he tells Max that if he ever does anything to hurt his daughter he would 'choose something far more painful than a bullet'.
