When Max drops Miranda off the night before she is due to fly back to London, he says he had fun working with her. As she crosses the road back to her apartment, she stops and looks wistfully back at him.
Max wants to help Miranda with her claustrophobia and gives her 'the hug of friendship'.
Later he helps her face her fear while a train goes through a tunnel by holding her hand, telling her to breathe along with him, and making her look into his eyes. She is thrilled when they make it to the end of the tunnel and it wasn't as bad as she feared because he helped through it.
When Miranda first sees Max come out in his tuxedo, she gasps and is flustered. They exchange a lingering look when she helps him put a borrowed wedding ring on.
When Miranda tells Max she's been offered a position back in London and he tells her he proposed to Carmen, they congratulate each other and try to be happy for one another.
When Miranda is held hostage, Max is desperate to get her out, even pretending to be her boyfriend to the confused gunman. He gives her a shoulder squeeze when she is freed and they go for drinks together.
Max thinks Miranda is going back to London and is sitting despondently in his car. Miranda has decided to stay and she vaults into his car, saying "compañeros, right?" Max replies "yeah, compañeros". They smile, put their sunglasses on in unison and drive off round the island grinning and laughing.
Max says he has no reason to retire back to Germany when he has "everything [he] need[]s here". He gives Miranda a meaningful look.
Max makes a picnic supper for himself and Miranda consisting of her favourite cheese sandwich and salt and vinegar crisps. He copies how she puts crisps between the bread and they toast their sandwiches against one another's, smiling.
Max gives Miranda a loving look as he stands next to her on the back of a tractor.
Miranda gives Max the gift of a bird book. He is touched. They discuss what birds they are. Miranda says they are geese because "they partner for life". Max is miffed, but her cheers up when she makes a bird pun.
