    Norio

Tsuburaya Norio

Voiced by: Hiro Shimono (OVA), Chihiro Suzuki (Drama CD)

  • Affectionate Nickname: Noririn, by both Kunimasa and Yonekuni.
  • Audience Surrogate: Just like the readers, he needs to be introduced to the whole ideas of biology, reproduction and society of the Madararui. He even lampshades somethings like the huge Artistic License the plot takes on Biology and the screwed up family tree of the Madarame.
  • Betty and Veronica: Archie to Kunimasa's Veronica and Hidekuni's Betty.
    • Archie to Kunimasa's Veronica and Teruhiko's Betty, though that one was mostly played for laughs and very short lived.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Kunimasa's mom, Karen. Both being very hard headed and emotion driven. This is lampshaded in-universe by herself.
  • Cat Boy: More so than the others, due to not being able to control his soul appearance, often showing a tail and cat ears when aroused.
  • Character Development: Gets more assertive, decided and strong as time goes.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Downplayed, but it still there.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Mostly played for laughs in the start, but later on, it becomes clear he is actually very attractive to men and it drives Kunimasa insane.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: He is only attracted to Kunimasa, as far as males goes, to the point of turning down Hidekuni, who is a much kinder alternative and very similar to Kunimasa. He even points out he was originally straight.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Becomes this to Kunimasa, as it gets clear that without him, Kunimasa slowly reverts back to the cold and distant persona he had before meeting him.
  • Mister Seahorse: Kunimasa wants him to bear his children, though he starting to grasp the concept, it still scares him.
  • Took a Level in Badass: During the summer trip, he becomes more capable of controlling his powers and even stands up to Makio and Nanami.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Due to Yonekuni can't standing being near men. After a while, this is subverted and Yonekuni can stand being near him while he is dressed normally.
  • Uke: A deconstructed version, he is much more assertive and less submissive than what would normally be expected of an uke.

    Kunimasa

Madarame Kunimasa

Voiced by: Yoshihisa Kawahara (OVA), Kiyoyuki Yanada (Drama CD)

  • Badass in Distress: While it's clear he is freakishly strong, he is subdued and kidnapped by Makio.
  • Betty and Veronica: Veronica to Hidekuni's Betty and Norio's Archie.
    • Veronica to Teruhiko's Betty and Norio's Archie.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Makio. Lampshaded and much to his dismay.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: Does this with Norio as he prepares to become head of the family, and Kunimasa realizes he doesn’t want to subject him to this fate.
  • Character Development: Gets kinder and more open about his feelings for Norio, going from simply wanting him to have his kids to genuinely wanting to start a family with him.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: He has an almost murderous strike to anyone who shows interest in Norio, which includes Teruhiko, Mc Bear(who wasn't actually interested) and Hidekuni(his brother).
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When he was a kid, he offered himself to go with Makio so his brother wouldn't have to, this made him a pretty messed up person.
  • Hypocrite: Kunimasa is very critical of people who treat their partners poorly (such as Yonekuni’s initial treatment of Shiro, Hiromasa’s less than enthused reaction to Shima pregnancy, etc) but Kunimasa himself was less than a stellar partner to Norio, even going so far as to being emotionally abusive towards him, in the early stages of their relationship. Thankfully he got better, and his relationship with Norio became healthier.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: Norio spends a long time wondering what exactly are Kunimasa's feelings for him, due to Kunimasa refusing to actually act like a couple or as if he has feelings for him, while at the same time keeping him away from every other male and wanting to make out with him at every opportunity. He drops this later on and genuinely starts to care for Norio as a possible life partner, rather than a baby making machine.
  • Seme: Deconstructed, though he seems like an average seme, he is much more emotionally damaged and fragile than he lets on, to the point of having Tsundere tendencies.
  • Smells Sexy: His smell is the main thing that started Norio interest on him.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He becomes kinder to Norio as time goes on, and becomes overall calmer.
  • Tsundere: Reveals that he does not like to talk about his feelings and that he was lying when he said he only wanted Norio to have his kids. After this, he becomes legitimately nice to him, even proposing to him.

    Yonekuni

Madarame Yonekuni

Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita (OVA), Takehito Koyasu (Drama CD)

  • Big Brother Mentor: To Norio.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Very much, and it only worsens his hate for men after getting into a relationship.
  • Does Not Like Men: One of his defining traits.
  • Domestic Abuser: At first, due to various factors — namely, he believes the "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization bullshit, lets his toxic jealousy get the better of him, and is a consummate misanthropist. After working on their issues, he and Shiro are legitimately a healthier couple.
  • Freudian Excuse: His hate for artists and men both come from David, one of his fathers. This is mostly played for laughs.
  • Mr. Exposition: Explains a lot about the Madararui to Norio.
  • "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization: He believes to have raped Shiro while he was out of it, but after realizing that Shiro enjoyed it, he states that it was sex, though he was very mad with both Shiro and Kunimasa at the time, so he might not really meant it.
  • Odd Friendship: He really becomes closer to Norio, and even acts as his confidant when he needs to talk about Kunimasa. It helps that he does support their relationship.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Manly Man to Shiro's Sensitive Guy.
  • Shipper on Deck: Supports Norio/Kunimasa, due to Norio helping his brother becoming a better person and genuinely thinking Norio is a good person.
  • Weak Sauce Weakness: Cold temperatures can kill him. While it needs a really strong cold to do this, a lower temperatura can make him weak.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Has done this more than once to Kunimasa over his treatment towards Norio.

    Shiro

Fujiwara Shiro (Shirou)

Voiced by: Wataru Hatano (OVA), Daisuke Hirakawa (Drama CD)

  • Ascended Extra: He gets much more screentime in the OVA.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: His friendship with Norio happens because they both share the hate of their future mother-in-law and the hardships of being introduced to the Madararui world.
  • Hidden Depths: He is very interested in art, though he wishes he could share this interest with someone.
    • He has doubts about his relationship with Yonekuni and where they are going.
  • Locked into Strangeness: His hair turns white when he turns into a dog for the first time.
  • Meaningful Name: His madararui form is of a big white(shiro) dog.
  • Nice Guy: Nicest guy so far.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Sensitive Guy to Yonekuni's Manly Man.
