Sorry pal. Heroes have heart.

Appearances: Iron Man VR

"Hi. My name is Tony and… well you know who I am."
Anthony Edward “Tony” Stark is the heir and current owner of Stark Industries. He was once an average greedy war profiteering weapons manufacturer until an attack by terrorist left him captured and with shrapnel inching towards his heart. It was only thanks to the quick thinking and genius of another scientist named Ho Yinsen that Stark's life was barely saved. Together the two worked together to build a suit of armor to escape their captors. While Tony escaped, Yinsen was killed. Changed by the experience, Tony now uses the updated versions of the armor as Iron Man to not only save lives but to also make up for the sins of his past.
  • Badass in Distress: He's placed at the mercy of Ghost two times throughout the game. The first is when she breaks into his home and attempts to shoot him before he can get to his armor, fortunately Gunsmith manages to hack into the suit and stop her. Second is when Ghost tears out his Arc Reactor in the caves. Leaving his low on power and slowly dying. He's only saved by F.R.I.D.A.Y. managing to insert it back into his armor.
  • Benevolent Boss: While he has a massive ego and can be a show off, Tony values and cares about both his friends and the people who work under him. In Shanghai, one of the first thing he asks F.R.I.D.A.Y. is confirmation that no one is in the building that could be harmed. And while he did shutdown Gunsmith due to no longer being in the weapon business he did assure the A.I. that it was not due to his performance and that he was getting the full V.I.P treatment with access to the internet and being placed on the top shelf.
  • Chest Blaster: The Unibeam appears as a Limit Break. It apparently used to be a one-and-done before Gunsmith upgraded it.
  • Experienced Protagonist: When we meet Tony he’s been Iron Man for roughly around 5 years and from the dialogue spoken he’s already apart of the Avengers (or at least knows some of its well know members like Thor), has amassed his fair share of villains and has a pretty solid working relationship with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Not that we get to see much of Tony’s face given the VR nature of the game, but from pictures that we are shown he’s clearly modeled after his voice actor Josh Keaton. It's more obvious with Gunsmith, who was modeled after Tony's past self.
  • I Shall Taunt You: It wouldn’t be Tony if he didn’t do this. His A.I. of himself Gunsmith might even be worse.
  • Powered Armor: Pretty much the Trope Codifier. And the player has their pick of which one they want to fly into battle.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After spending most of the campaign growing increasingly frustrated with Gunsmith's increasingly apparent disregard for collateral damage, he finally runs out of patience when the A.I. takes over his armor in an attempt to execute Ghost in cold blood.
Tony: I gave you an order!
    Gunsmith: She deserves to die!
    Tony: Where's your holoprojector?!
Gunsmith: Oh, I upgraded to a spacial light modulator. You're always talking about self-improvement, so I decided to—
  • Science Hero: A very intelligent inventor and engineer who uses his armor as well as his intelligence to win the day.
  • Walking Armory: It wouldn't be Iron Man if his suit wasn't covered in all sorts of advanced weaponry. Tony's armor has multiple sub-weapons developed by Gunsmith, with one each equipable on his arms, including homing missiles, smart bombs, and machine guns, among others. This is downplayed with the Mark I, which only has a pair of prototype repulsors and flamethrowers on each arm.

"See you on the other side."
An A.I. created in Tony's image while Stark Industries was still developing weapons. He was retired after Tony shut down weapons production, albeit with full internet privileges, only to be brought out of retirement to help deal with Ghost's threat.
  • Decomposite Character: In-universe, he was based off of Tony's past self during his warmonger days, and thus embodies how he was at that stage of his life. Out-of-universe, he later takes on traits of Tony during his Superior Iron Man phase, down to wearing an identical suit of armor for the final battle.
  • Lack of Empathy: In stark contrast to his creator's reaction, he is completely uncaring to the lives that could be lost when his reckless use of a Kill Sat destroys a nearby dam, and protests the whole time Tony is working on fixing it.
Gunsmith: Who cares about the dam, boss? It's Roxxon's problem.
Tony: I care about the hundreds of workers who will lose their lives if this canyon floods.
Gunsmith: Then start a disaster relief fund in their memory.
Tony: It would be a "relief" if you you never started a disaster in the first place.
  • Original Generation: He has no apparent counterpart from the comics.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Deconstructed. Tony created him to build weapons and run combat strategies and simulations, a job that he does extremely well... but it also means that he is either unable or unwilling to think of anything but the most destructive possible solution to a problem, and is completely apathetic to any collateral damage his methods cause.
  • The Unfettered: The only thing that matters to him is stopping Ghost. Any damage caused in pursuit of that goal is irrelevant. F.R.I.D.A.Y. and Tony both grow extremely disgusted by this attitude as the game progresses.
  • Walking Spoiler: The fact that he manipulated Ghost into a Roaring Rampage of Revenge in an attempt to get Tony back into weapons development is a massive twist that isn't revealed until near the end of the story... as is the fact that he goes utterly insane after Tony rejects him and threatens the world, becoming the final threat that Iron Man and co. have to deal with.

The director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a powerful global intelligence agency, and a frequent costumer of Stark Industries during its weapon-building heyday. In the present day, he maintains a strong working relationship with Tony in the superhero business, but he still has a habit of badgering Tony over his decision to stop making weapons.

  • Deadpan Snarker: You kind of have to be, when you speak to Tony Stark on a regular basis.

I'm just a ghost from your past.

Appearances: Iron Man VR

A computer hacker with a talent for light-based tech and a massive grudge against Tony Stark.

  • Big Bad: She is the primary threat Tony has to deal with, and her attacks on his assets is what drives the plot into motion.
  • Enemy Mine: She helps Tony defeat Gunsmith and leaves peacefully once the threat has passed, but she makes it clear that she's only doing it because of a mutual grudge and that she still heavily dislikes Tony.
  • Hypocritical Humor: She expresses offense when Gunsmith steals her tech for his own use... after spending the whole game trying to kill Tony with Stark drones. Tony immediately calls her on this.
  • Not So Above It All: As much as she rails against Tony's ego, she clearly has a prideful streak of her own, best shown when she balks at Tony downplaying her tech.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: A good ninety percent of her dialogue is her giving these speeches to Tony, mostly over the death caused by his weapons during his warmonger days.
  • Jump Scare: She loves popping out of nowhere and scaring Tony, something made much more effective by the game's VR nature.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: She tries to surrender at the end of one level, even removing her mask and complying when Tony orders her to drop it. Unfortunately, Gunsmith is in control of the armor, and is very in favor of executing her. Luckily for her, Tony fights the armor long enough for her to escape.
