  • Made a Slave: Whether they lost their homes to monsters or were adventurers who have to pay back their exorbitant medical costs, those who are taken in by the Temple of Light become slaves that are forced to work off their debts.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Thanks to how high everything is priced at the Temple of Light and how little they receive for their work, the slaves are essentially kept forever in the Temple of Light's debt.
  • Slave Brand: The Slave Mark is this. All slaves receive the Slave Mark on their right shoulders, which allows them to be given forced commands by Priests of Light and kills them if they step foot outside of a Temple of Light.
  • Work Off the Debt: The main way for slaves to earn their freedom is to pay off their debts, with other ways being contributing to a successful raid and convincing a Priest of Light to simply remove the Slave Mark.
  • Worker Unit: Slaves are divided into several divisions: Mining Teams, Hunting Teams, the Inquisitors and their Official Agents, and more.

    Gote

The leader of Gote's Hunting Team, a Recon Unit tasked with scouting out dungeons and reporting their finds. He remained stuck in his position for four years, but his luck changed when Zephyr came along.

Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Due to being part of a Recon Unit, Gote was looked down upon by the other Hunting Teams. While fighting the Black Steel Spider Queen, he realized he no longer wanted that.
  • Cowardly Lion: For four years, Gote remained a Recon Unit leader due to playing it safe and not taking risks. However, as seen with the Black Steel Spider dungeon, he can fight.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Is the "in-between" to Dale's "mean" (until he finally began to respect Zephyr) and Marco's "nice".
  • Passed-Over Promotion: Because Gote played it safe and didn't take risks, he remained the leader of a Recon Unit for four years. However, after Zephyr had beaten the three promised dungeons (the Black Steel Spider Dungeon, the Cockatrice Nest, and the remote mountain village that Ned manipulated the documents to seem like a Goblin Den), this will no longer be the case.
  • Rank Up: Promoted from Hunter to soldier.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Depending on the translation, his name may be spelled as either "Gote" or "Goethe".
  • Stealing the Credit: All the credit for the dungeons Zephyr helped him clear went directly to Gote, making him look better. In fact, that was part of the deal Zephyr made him: help Zephyr poach monster corpses, and Zephyr will clear three dungeons for him with all the credit going to Gote.
  • Still the Leader: After Zephyr joined Gote's Hunting Team, he became the de facto leader with Gote remaining the leader in name only.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Gote became more confident in his abilities.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In addition, after defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Gote became more respectful towards Zephyr.

A swordsman of Gote's Hunting Team. Despite being with the unit for only a few months, he shows promise. Dale was supposed to die in the Kobold Den, but was spared when Zephyr killed the Predator. Dale was initially rude to Zephyr but after defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, he grew to respect Zephyr immensely.

Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Due to being part of a Recon Unit, Dale was looked down upon by the other Hunting Teams. While fighting the Black Steel Spider Queen, he realized he no longer wanted that.
  • Brutal Honesty: Before finally respecting Zephyr, Dale made it no secret that he thought Zephyr was "trash" and "a scammer".
  • Curbstomp Battle: A Predator utterly annihilated Dale. In fact, the Predator killed Dale in his previous life and would have killed him again in his current life had Zephyr not intervened.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Is the "mean" (until he finally began to respect Zephyr) to Marco's "nice" and Gote's "in-between".
  • Rank Up: Promoted from Hunter to soldier.
  • Taught by Experience: Dale learned just how good Zephyr was not by words, but by watching him fight. Only then did he finally respect Zephyr.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Dale became more confident in his abilities.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In addition, after defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Dale finally began to respect Zephyr.

The tank of Gote's Hunting Team. Marco was supposed to die in the Kobold Den, but was spared when Zephyr killed the Predator.

Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Due to being part of a Recon Unit, Marco was looked down upon by the other Hunting Teams. While fighting the Black Steel Spider Queen, he realized he no longer wanted that.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Marco's preferred weapon is a large mallet.
  • Curbstomp Battle: A Predator utterly annihilated Marco. In fact, the Predator killed Marco in his previous life and would have killed him again in his current life had Zephyr not intervened.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Marco is almost always seen with his eyes shut, no matter the situation.
  • Nice Guy: Marco may have been skeptical of Zephyr at first, but unlike Dale, Marco was much more respectful towards Zephyr.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Is the "nice" to Dale's "mean" (until he finally began to respect Zephyr) and Gote's "in-between".
  • Rank Up: Promoted from Hunter to soldier.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Marco became more confident in his abilities.

    Sahak

Sahak

One of the Inquisitor's Official Agents in the Temple of Light who worked under Ned Stryer. He lorded his position over his fellow slaves and did not take his loss against Zephyr very well.

Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Sahak's death at the hands of Zephyr was very well-deserved, as he had killed countless slaves and sacrificed over a hundred innocent villagers to his Shoggoth.
  • Blood from the Mouth: After Zephyr punched him in the gut with an electric fist.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Zephyr used electric acceleration to burst the blood he aforementionedly spilled, causing lightning to strike down and electrocute Sahak.
  • Drunk with Power: As an Inquisitor's Official Agent, Sahak used his position to strike fear into the other slaves and punish whomever he wanted to.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: After Ned shoved a blade into Sahak's mouth, Sahak gained large scars that make it look like he is permanently grinning.
  • Hate Sink: Let's see...Sahak murdered countless slaves and only got one Tartarus Worshipper for every seven he killed, happily took the Tartarus Worshippers' items—despite having murdered anyone whom he even suspected to be a Tartarus Worshipper—just to get revenge on Zephyr, sacrificed over a hundred innocent villagers to feed the Shoggoth...no wonder his death was so satisfying.
  • High-Voltage Death: How Zephyr killed him. Zephyr used the Dragon's Roar and the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts Lightning Palm to finish him off.
  • Hypocrite: Sahak may have thought that the Tartarus Worshippers were dangerous and needed to be killed on sight, but he had absolutely no problems with using a Shoggoth, one of the Tartarus Worshippers' greatest weapons, to try to kill Zephyr.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: The best solution for dealing with Tartarus Worshippers and anyone who annoys him? Murder them.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The "Mad Hound".
  • Revenge: Wanted revenge against Zephyr for defeating him in front of numerous spectators and humiliating him, even going as far as using the Tartarus Worshippers' weapons and feeding over a hundred people to his Shoggoth. Too bad it didn't work out.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Sahak sacrificing over a hundred innocent villagers for the sake of revenge really sealed the deal for Zephyr wanting to kill him.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Ned and Mathias. They only let him do what he wanted to make it seem like the Inquisitors were actually hunting Tartarus Worshippers while taking eyes off of their own activities.
  • Villainous Breakdown: What Sahak went through after losing to Zephyr and being threatened with demotion to a normal slave.
