The last survivor of the Demon War who was reincarnated ten years into the past after being killed. Zephyr's goal is to defeat The God of Demons Tartarus and take revenge on the gods who abandoned humanity.

Tropes:

  • Action Bomb: Zephyr used the curse Altair put on him to become this, blowing himself up by giving Tartarus the middle finger.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Often gave these to Altair in their previous lives. He did it so often, he instinctively did to Altair in their current lives after she lied to Captain Regulus for him. However, judging by her blush, she liked it.
  • Alchemy Is Magic: Zephyr was able to synthesize Belial without alchemy equipment, and was able to synthesize Zagan and Asmodeus with some.
  • All According to Plan: Zephyr had anticipated and even wanted Altair to use <Kiss of Darkness> on him so Altair could confirm for herself what he was saying was the truth, since she hadn't mastered <Communion> yet. That was how Zephyr got Altair to believe that he came of his own accord from the future to prevent her death.
  • All Webbed Up: Thanks to storing some of the Black Steel Spider Queen's web using the <Silver Key> perk, Zephyr can shoot strands at will as seen when he used some of the silk during his fight against the Fallen Princess.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Thanks to the Water of Life, the <Hermes's Secret Skill> perk, Altair's <Moirai> skill, Elise healing Zephyr, and Ned steadying Zephyr's breathing, Zephyr was able upgrade to his second form of <Dragonification>.
  • Badass Boast: Zephyr gives one to Kaisaurus/Kaiserus the Black Dragon before beginning their fight in his consciousness.
Zephyr: "You know. This isn't my first time...facing a dragon's Overmind in my consciousness. If I include those from my last life...you're the fifth. You dragons...are such a nuisance. Can't you just stay dead and let others absorb you? Why do you have to test them before giving them your power? I guess I'll just have to beat some sense into you. It's time to teach you a lesson."
Kaisaurus: "Do you ever stop talking? Come and fight me if you dare!"
  • Badass Cape: Zephyr donned one of those in his previous life and after obtaining the Dragon Slayer's Plate Coat, Plate Boots, Gauntlet Set upon defeating the Gatekeeper Georgios in the Tomb of the Fallen Princess with the Dragon Slayer's Cape able to reduce damage from magic of all attributes.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Zephyr had one of those with Kaisaurus while Eurydice/Yuridika was transplanting the Dragon Heart into him.
  • Berserk Button: DO NOT ever insult Altair. Priest Jacob and the other priests of the Temple of the Sky learned this the hard way after gossiping about a rumor entailing Altair being in an illicit relationship with Lucius, her older cousin, and even having a child with him.
  • The Bet: Made one with Polaris Albert Cayenne, the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers, over a coin toss with the loser telling one thing the winner wants to hear, with him choosing "heads". Zephyr did this to avoid a head-on battle, which would have led to Ned, Lucius, and Bishop Alfonso being killed. However, the coin ended up being sliced in half with each half turned to each side, effectively making the bet a draw.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Rather than let Tartarus kill him or play along with Tartarus, Zephyr chose to blow himself up, taking Tartarus's right hand with him.
  • BFS: Zephyr seems to be quite fond of huge swords, as seen with the blue sword from his previous life and with Gram.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Tends to be quite flashy when fighting monsters and saving people from them.
  • Big Good: Zephyr's ultimate goal is to defeat the demons and prevent the downfall of humanity.
  • Blood from the Mouth: After The God of Demons Tartarus delivered a fatal blow to Zephyr in his previous life. However, Zephyr was able to survive long enough to blow himself up. Also, while upgrading Zephyr's <Dragonification>, blood spewed from his mouth. Luckily, Elise was there to heal him during the entire ritual.
  • Breath Weapon: During <Dragonification>, Zephyr can use <Dragon Breath> with him doing so to counteract Blue Dragon Artalis's second <Dragon Breath> and momentarily destroying its breath pocket.
  • Brutal Honesty: When Zephyr is not lying, he does not beat around the bush, saying what is on his mind. Just ask the miner boy he used to work with. Zephyr was also quite brutally honest with Dariel the Divine Archer when expressing his frustrations with Dariel being reluctant to give Zephyr the Branch from the Tree of Life and the Water of Life.
  • The Chosen One: The gods chose Zephyr because he entertained them.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Zephyr prepared a multitude of items for the Kobold Den as well as for the Tomb of the Fallen Princess for both him and Ned Stryer, helped Lucius Giornetti find surefire evidence to convict Cardinal Oldin/Aldean Lasker of heresy, and prepared a literal mountain of scrolls to convince Altair to engage in the Blue Dragon Raid with him and Ned.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: After nailing Blue Dragon Artalis with the Stake of Faith, Zephyr told the rear squad via <Golem> to change tactics with Zephyr acting as bait by causing as much pain as possible while Dariel fires as much as he pleases. Dariel is amazed that it actually worked.
  • Crazy Survivalist: Thanks to his skills, Zephyr survived for one year after the rest of humanity was destroyed. He also used his survivalist knowledge to save himself from the accumulated damage from the <Wall of Iron> perk by keeping a small vial of Recovery Water on him and giving himself one mana point, cancelling the collection.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Zephyr single-handedly annihilated an entire cockatrice nest with his bare hands, even dragging back the leader's head with ease despite the head itself being several times Zephyr's size.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Has silver hair and silver eyes.
  • The Cynic: Is able to see ulterior motives very easily due to his knowledge of the future. Also, due to him having experienced the end of the world once before, Zephyr doesn't feel as inspired by things as much as he used to. Despite that, Zephyr was in awe as he gazed at the cup of Water of Life, calling it "beautiful".
  • Damage Reduction: The Dragon Slayer's Cape reduces damage from magic of all attributes. Thanks to Zephyr shielding Altair with said cape from the energy blast that erupted out of the Door of the Great Elfen Forest and Elise blocking the rest with the <Barrier of Light> skill, nobody took any damage despite how huge said energy blast was.
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Reflexively took a huge step back when Ned glared at him and pointed the Sword of Mirage at him while confronting him about the truth, despite Zephyr being much stronger than Ned by then. Why? Because in their previous lives, Ned would beat Zephyr senselessly whenever he was in a bad mood.
  • Declaration of Protection: After reincarnating into the past, Zephyr vowed to protect Altair this time around.
  • Demihuman: After obtaining the Dragon Heart, Zephyr essentially became a dragonoid. That was how he was able to obtain the blood of a dragonoid, the key ingredient for Asmodeus: from himself.
  • The Determinator: Zephyr is incredibly determined to change the fate of humanity and to defeat the demons. This determination convinced Eurydice to transplant the Dragon Heart into him, despite the dangers.
  • Deus ex Machina: Invoked by Zephyr. During his fight with the Fallen Princess Eurydice, Zephyr gave the gods an ultimatum: either give him better perks, or he'll kill himself by completing the blasphemous symbol. Zephyr knew the gods would not find a human as entertaining as him. His gambit worked with him gaining conditional access to the Sword of Light, allowing him to defeat the Fallen Princess and break her curse.
  • Diagnosis from Dr. Badass: After seeing Sir Grimes—a soldier from the Lord of Danakil—and his condition, Zephyr knew that healers could not help him by themselves and instead used Asmodeus—one of the 72 Deadly Poisons of Fade, the King of Poisons—to counteract Blue Dragon Artalis's poison.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Zephyr literally flipped off Tartarus, which activated the curse Altair put on him, blowing himself up and wounding Tartarus in the process.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Even with how brilliant Zephyr is, even Zephyr gets caught off-guard. Like when the Gatekeeper Georgios gave the Fallen Princess Eurydice some mana, allowing her to come back stronger than before, and when Polaris possessed Oldin's head and showed himself even though Zephyr had anticipated him currently being absorbed in his double life. In addition, Zephyr didn't realize that the Real Shadow Disciple was Ned's older sister, and was shocked when Ned revealed that Ophelia told Ned; however, this is justified since Zephyr never saw the Real Shadow Disciple's real face due to her being a master of <Configuration>.
  • Divine Intervention: Thanks to Zephyr drawing the blasphemous symbol, many gods were so angered that they sent Mercedes to kill him. While interacting with Zephyr, Mercedes put up a barrier, momentarily shielding him from the Fallen Princess Eurydice. Zephyr used this to his advantage, allowing him the time to give the gods the aforementioned ultimatum.
  • Equipment Upgrade: After defeating and purifying Eurydice and Georgios/Georgius, Zephyr obtained Georgios's sword Gram in addition to the Dragon Slayer's armor and accessed Eurydice's Treasure Room, further upgrading himself and his party.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Zephyr and Ned betrayed Mathias Grimmer and the Tartarus Worshippers in addition to Lucius and the other Priests of Light after Zephyr activated the mechanism that rearranges the Tomb of the Fallen Princess's layout. However, after Zephyr saved Lucius, Leona, and Arno from Georgios, they ended up thinking that those two are actually allies passionate in ridding heresy, and forgave what happened.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Zephyr is easily able to discern someone's motives, and uses that knowledge to his advantage.
  • A Father to His Men: In both his previous and current lives, Zephyr cared deeply for his party members and the people he trained. Just ask Gote, Dale, Marco, Ned, Lucius, Leona, Arno, and countless more.
  • Flash Step: Thanks to his mastery of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, Zephyr can move extremely quickly.
  • Flipping the Bird: Apparently, Zephyr flipped off people in his previous life so much, Altair put the aforementioned curse on him to get him to stop doing it. He did it one last time in his previous life to Tartarus. After being reincarnated ten years into the past, Zephyr did it again to The God of Debt Usra after bypassing his collection and later to Dariel the Divine Archer when frustratedly counting down a list of what Dariel wanted from Zephyr.
  • Forceful Kiss: After Altair's first <Kiss of Darkness> had faded, Zephyr had her recast it by stealing a kiss from her.
  • Forgiveness: Despite his attitude, Zephyr is actually quite a forgiving person. Examples include Dale, Anna Primrose/White Rose, Ned, Eurydice, Lucius, and Captain Regulus. This is because Zephyr believes that people have the ability to change and grow, and he wants more people to get stronger so humanity will be able to defeat the demons this time around. Either that, or they can help him get stronger. However, his forgiveness does not extend to Sahak, Cardinal Oldin Lasker, Tartarus, and the gods who abandoned humanity.
Zephyr to Sahak: "Before...all I cared about was saving myself and the people that mattered to me. That seemed to make the most sense since the world is so miserable. But at some point...I started to wonder. Would things have turned out differently if there had been more people around me who knew how to fight? What if the surviving humans had worked together more? Maybe then...the people I love...might have had a chance to live longer. That's why...in this life...I decided to spare whoever I could...and give a chance to those who wish to be stronger. But not you. How many people have you fed to this monster? Probably about a hundred, I'd say. How many more people will have to die until you're satisfied? You piece of shit! You don't deserve to live."
  • Genius Bruiser: Zephyr uses his immense knowledge and his immense strength to beat almost any opponent he faces, and he is always looking for ways to get stronger. For anyone who is overpowering him, he is able to get others to give him the strength he needs to win, as seen when he convinced The Goddess of Light Aria to give him conditional access to the Sword of Light in his fight against the Fallen Princess. The only exception is Tartarus, but that will most assuredly change the next time around.
  • The Gloves Come Off: After Oldin in demon form unleashed an onslaught of attacks on Zephyr and tried to pound him into the ground, Zephyr revealed that 1% of the Dragon Heart's power wasn't bad, but then proceeded to use the <Dragonification> skill to momentarily drastically boost his abilities. It was to the point that Oldin tried to flee in terror, only to be brought back down.
  • Good is Not Nice: Zephyr may be fighting to ensure humanity's survival, but he is definitely not nice. Zephyr is rude, snarky, and contemplates killing anyone who won't side with him.
  • Guile Hero: Zephyr is not above lying to people and/or letting them believe certain falsehoods to get them to do what he wants. Examples include letting White Rose believe he was a former member of Persephone; tricking Ned and Mathias into thinking he was the Shadow Disciple of Jinryang of the East and a fellow Tartarus Worshipper; and letting Lucius, Leona, and Arno think he and Ned were actually members of the Temple of Light who infiltrated the Tartarus Worshippers to destroy the organization from within. However, after Ned learned the truth about who the real Shadow Disciple was from Ophelia, instead of lying more to cover himself, Zephyr just told the truth.
  • Hammerspace: Thanks to the <Silver Key> perk, Zephyr can store and access items anytime and anywhere. The space is so large, he was able to effortlessly store a large Predator corpse and its blood puddle.
  • Heartfelt Apology: Sincerely apologized to Ned for lying to him after finally telling him the truth.
  • Heroic Resolve: The reason why Zephyr is so determined to change the future, and what convinced Eurydice to finally transplant the Dragon Heart into him.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Zephyr might be a jerk, but he is also very kind to those he cares about. Such as wanting Ned to have the perfect revenge and making sure said perfect revenge happens.
  • Human Resources: Was almost a victim of this. If Zephyr had not remembered Anna Primrose's other name in time, he would have had his organs harvested.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: After becoming a dragonoid due to the successful transplant of the Dragon Heart, Zephyr essentially became this due to him hunting down Blue Dragon Artalis and Ice Dragon Merenia, two fellow dragons.
  • I Gave My Word: As promised, Zephyr cleared three dungeons for Gote/Goethe: the Black Steel Spider Dungeon, the Cockatrice Nest, and the remote mountain village that Ned manipulated the documents to seem like a Goblin Den.
  • I Kiss Your Hand: Did this to Altair after meeting her for the first time in their current lives, as a greeting to the princess. Seeing as Altair was Zephyr's lover in their previous lives and Zephyr was posing as a Temple Knight, Zephyr kissed her hand as a sign of chivalry and respect. He also did it to try to activate Altair's <Communion> skill, which she hadn't fully mastered at the time and even though she hadn't, Zephyr counted on her regaining enough familiarity with Zephyr so she would come searching for him in the future.
  • I Owe You My Life: To Ned. Not only did Ned allow Zephyr to escape the Canyon of Oblivion, one of the eight most difficult challenges in the world, the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts served as the foundation for Zephyr to become the strongest human. That was why Zephyr made sure to save Ned in their current lives.
  • I Should Have Been Better: Zephyr always regretted not being strong enough to defeat Hondur, the Master of the Canyon of Oblivion. Zephyr contemplated that if he had been stronger, Ned wouldn't have had to sacrifice himself, and they could have escaped together. He could never forget his master's back as Ned blew himself up with the final secret art of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts.
  • I Will Wait for You: Zephyr promised to clear all obstacles from Altair's path, defeat all enemies, and offer her the throne on a kiss to her hand. When that time comes, Zephyr wants Altair to accept him as her king as he called her his queen.
  • Ironic Name: "Zephyr" is the name of the god of the west wind in ancient Greek mythology and means "soft gentle breeze". Zephyr is anything but soft or gentle.
  • It Only Works Once: Zephyr drawing the blasphamous symbol. Mercedes warned him that if he tried that again, not only would he lose all of his perks, he would also be designated as prey with every single person who hunts him gaining the perks taken from him.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: What Zephyr did to Oldin to extract information on the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Zephyr has no problems with stealing monster corpses, which are supposed to be the property of the Temple of Light, and selling them on the black market via White Rose. He also had absolutely no problems with having Ned steal the Stake of Faith from Leona.
  • The Leader: Zephyr becomes the de facto leader of any group he works in. This includes the teams of soldiers he trained in his previous life; Mining Team F; Gote's Hunting Team; his team with Ned, Lucius, Leona, and Arno; the medical relief station at the Danakil Plains; and the allied army of humans and elves for the Blue Dragon Raid.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Thanks to Zephyr's immense strength and the extreme speed obtained from his mastery of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts taught to him by Ned Stryer in their previous lives, Zephyr can both hit hard and hit fast.
  • Loophole Abuse: Normally, Zephyr cannot use the Sword of Light unless he has either The Goddess of Light's permission or is fulfilling one of her requests, due to it normally requiring tremendous stats to wield. However, he was able to use it for ten seconds without either condition being fulfilled by momentarily dramatically boosting his stats with <Dragonification>, the <Meteor's Tears> potion, and the <Hermes's Secret Skill> perk. In addition, Zephyr tried to change the side the coin landed on with skills before opening his hand, and indirectly told Ned and Lucius the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers's identity. All in all, Zephyr is really fond of doing this.
  • Made a Slave: Thanks to the debts he owes the Temple of Light, Zephyr was made into a slave and was forced to work off his debt. Zephyr, along with Ned, were freed by Lucius after he saved Lucius from the Gatekeeper Georgios.
  • Made of Iron: Thanks to his <Wall of Iron> perk, Zephyr cancels out any damage that is lower than his durability. Except, that's not what really happens. In reality, all the damage is accumulated as debt, and once his mana reaches zero, he will take all the accumulated damage at once, most assuredly killing him.
  • Magic Plastic Surgery: Zephyr's <Transfiguration> skill allows him to change his appearance by adjusting his facial muscles and expression. Even though his skills are not as good as those of the real Shadow Disciple, Zephyr still seems like a completely different person while under <Transfiguration> and combined with changing his personality. However, one man was able to see through Zephyr's disguise, which intrigued Zephyr due to said man appearing weak. That person turned out to be Philip Pilgrim, one of Altair’s companions and one of her three mentors who led her to become a pivotal figure for humanity. Philip was able to distinguish Zephyr due to his good eye for people developed over the years by being a merchant.
  • Magic Potion: Thanks to the <Hermes's Secret Skill> perk, Zephyr is able to boost the effectiveness of all medicinal items and potions he consumes by 500%.
  • Master Poisoner: After the gods abandoned the world in the original timeline, Zephyr had to rely on poisons to fight off his enemies. Due to the poison recipes he received from Fade, the King of Poisons, he was able to survive for one year after the rest of humanity was destroyed. In the current timeline, Zephyr uses his knowledge of poisons to craft No.68 Belial—a poison that causes immense pain and erodes organs—and No.61 Zagan—a highly unpredictable poison—to both help him take down monsters and to boost his own stats. Upon increasing his stats and obtaining more ingredients, Zephyr will be able to synthesize stronger poisons thanks to his knowledge. For instance, after obtaining the Dragon Heart, Zephyr was able to synthesize No.32 Asmodeus due to it requiring the blood of a dragonoid such as himself. In fact, the reason why Fade, the King of Poisons was able to create 72 deadly poisons in the first place was because Zephyr was the one who collected some of the rarest ingredients.
  • Master Swordsman: Zephyr is masterful with blades as seen with his sword from his previous life, the Twilight Longsword, and with Gram.
  • Mental Time Travel: How Zephyr was sent back in time. Rather than send his body back in time—which would have resulted in his future and past selves meeting—or traditional reincarnation, which involves a past incarnation being reborn as a new person in the future, Mercedes reincarnated Zephyr into the past by transferring memories of the original timeline into the body of his 20-year-old self. Zephyr was not reincarnated with his previous physical training, mana, items, weapons, and acquired skills. However, he was given nine perks from the gods who support him, and retained the ability to use the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts from memory alone and by boosting his mana with countless bottles of Recovery Water made more effective with the <Hermes’s Secret Skill> perk.
  • Mission from God: The Goddess of Light Aria requested that Zephyr save Lucius, her current Holy One of Light/Saint of Light. He accepted, which allowed him to once again conditionally use the Sword of Light to defeat Georgios.
  • Mistaken For Couple: Gote, Dale, and Marco thought Zephyr managed to win Anna Primrose over after they saw her leave their room and saw the Ring of Purification on Zephyr's finger. He had no idea what they were talking about.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Normally, a coin toss should be as simple as flipping a coin and calling a side. However, Zephyr ended up fiercely fighting Polaris as he tried to change the side the coin landed on.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Seeing as how Zephyr is ripped and can deal massive damage, his muscles definitely aren't just for show.
  • My Greatest Failure: Not having been able to save the world and not having been strong enough to save Ned. The first reason was why Zephyr returned to the past in the first place, and the second reason was why Zephyr went out of his way to save Ned; because he needed Ned to help him fight Tartarus again, and more importantly, because he wanted Ned to live this time.
  • Nerves of Steel: While in battle, Zephyr almost always maintains a cool head. That makes his frustration upon almost losing to the Fallen Princess all the more jarring.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: Let's see...the countless vials of Recovery Water Zephyr drank to boost his mana with the help of <Hermes's Secret Skill>, the combination of Zagan and Belial to double his stats, obtaining conditional access to the Sword of Light, having the Dragon Heart successfully transplanted into him, obtaining Gram, using the <Dragonification> skill, achieving the second form of <Dragonification>...Zephyr has a lot of these.
  • No More Lies: After Ned begged Zephyr to give him proof that he can trust Zephyr after Ophelia revealed who the real Shadow Disciple was, Zephyr finally revealed the truth: that Zephyr was the final human, a hero, a loser, came from ten years in the future, and was Ned's only disciple.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Seeing as Zephyr chose to blow himself up rather than beg for his life and how he gave the gods the ultimatum of either giving him better perks or he'll kill himself/let himself be killed, Zephyr definitely is this.
  • Not So Stoic: Could barely hold in his laughter as Altair bullshitted Captain Regulus and showed a forged document that she claimed was from Lucius.
  • No-Sell: Thanks to the special drugs the executives of the Tartarus Worshippers gave the members who took part in the raid on the Tomb of the Fallen Princess, Zephyr momentarily disabled his Slave Mark, preventing Lucius's command to stop from affecting him and allowing him to rush straight to the boss room with Ned as the dungeon was rearranging itself. Zephyr also did this to Dariel the Divine Archer's arrow when Dariel was trying to prove a point of him being unable to kill Blue Dragon Artalis since Dariel was unable to pierce a dragonoid's scales, let alone a real dragon's.
  • One-Man Army: During the Blue Dragon Raid, Zephyr acted as this, being the only member of the vanguard squad while the other 224 members were in the rear squad. This is because he was the only one suited to fight Blue Dragon Artalis head-on due to his <Hermes's Secret Skill> perk boosting the duration of the three <Gold Tears> potions—which protect against harmful effects—to ten minutes each in addition to <Dragonification> providing greatly increased poison resistance in general. Zephyr was the one to deal primary damage and create openings while the rear squad dealt vast amounts of supporting damage and the golems handled the monsters within the poison zone.
  • Outrun the Fireball: What Zephyr had to do after creating a dust explosion to incinerate the Black Steel Spider eggs and to lure out the Black Steel Spider Queen.
  • Peggy Sue: Thanks to the gods sending Zephyr back ten years into the past and reincarnating him as his 20-year-old self, he definitely qualifies as one.
  • Photographic Memory: Zephyr is able to remember people and events from the last ten years with astounding accuracy, and uses this information to his advantage to forge relationships and to grow strong quickly.
  • Power Gives You Wings: During <Dragonification>, after attaining its second form, Zephyr sprouts a pair of dragonic wings during the duration of that skill.
  • The Power of Lust: Altair used a promise of continuing what they couldn't finish the night before to motivate Zephyr into killing Blue Dragon Artalis in only ten minutes. Zephyr happily and eagerly obliged, unceremoniously nailing the Stake of Faith into Blue Dragon Artalis's head just as it tried to sneak up on him.
  • Pragmatic Hero: While being a slave at the Temple of Light, Zephyr racked up a huge debt all to get stronger, faster. He also participated in the illegal poaching of monster corpses to repay his debts and to earn the money needed to purchase better gear. He was also more than happy to make Lucis a month late in returning the Stake of Faith to the Pope so he could use it during the Blue Dragon Raid.
  • The Promise: Due to the coin being sliced in half with each half turned to each side, Polaris agreed to not kill Zephyr's companions in exchange for Zephyr not revealing his identity, with the <Oath Ring> skill cast to enforce the promise with the one who breaks the promise losing one of his senses for a month. However, Zephyr gets around this by indirectly telling Ned and Lucius the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers's identity.
  • A Protagonist Shall Lead Them: After being reincarnated ten years into the past, Zephyr worked hard to get stronger and rallied up people he knew in his previous life as well as other reliable people to conquer various challenges and ultimately to save the world from the God of Demons Tartarus.
  • Protagonist Title: Zephyr is referenced in three of this manhwa's titles; he is the doom breaker in "Doom Breaker" as well as the battle god in "Reincarnation of the Suicidal Battle God" and "A Battle God's Second Chance".
  • Rage Against the Heavens: After Zephyr—along with the rest of humanity—was abandoned by the gods, Zephyr developed an intense hatred against them. In addition to the The God of Demons Tartarus, Zephyr wants to kill all of the gods who abandoned them.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: After using the <Dragonification> skill, Zephyr's eyes become red just like Kaisaurus's and his power momentarily increases exponentially.
  • Red Herring: Zephyr purposely left traces of the battles with the Silver Knight and a demonized Oldin while completely erasing any traces of the Dragon Heart to throw off the Tartarus Worshippers and to make them doubt each other. Zephyr also had Altair enact the Thorn Mountain Range Clearing Project to make new farmland in order to draw the Tartarus Worshippers' attention while they teamed up with the elves to save the Danakil Plains.
  • Reincarnation: After accepting the gods' offer to bring him ten years back in time, Zephyr was reincarnated into the body of his 20-year-old self with the memories of his previous life intact.
  • Respected by the Respected: After breaking Eurydice's curse, Zephyr earned her respect. Zephyr, in return, respected her for being the leader of The Twelve Heroes who saved the world from demons a thousand years ago. In addition, Lucius the Holy One began to show Zephyr immense respect after Zephyr saved his life with him believing Zephyr to be an ally passionate in ridding heresy, calling Zephyr "Exalted One" and "Sir".
  • Revenge: One of Zephyr's main motivations for being reincarnated into the past. He wants revenge against the gods who abandoned humanity, in addition to The God of Demons Tartarus.
  • Rock–Paper–Scissors: Won against Ned by using "scissors" while Ned used "paper". Zephyr, as the winner, was to go to the party at Lindell Castle to gather intel while Ned had to find and take out Tartarus Worshippers residing there. However, Ned considers this a win because he hates social gatherings.
  • Seamless Spontaneous Lie: Zephyr is quite good at making these, such as when he convinced Ned that he was the Shadow Disciple and when he made a very solid excuse as to why he would know Fade in the current timeline to the elves.
  • Self-Harm: After achieving the second form of <Dragonification>, Zephyr bit into a towel to prevent himself from biting off his own tongue as he ripped his own scales out to craft a new bow for Dariel the Divine Archer, the first Dragon Weapon Zephyr would make in his current life.
  • Sensor Character: Can use <Mana Perception>/<Mana Detection> to detect anyone who uses mana and anything infused with mana. This allows him to find or avoid either, even in complete darkness.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Another one of Zephyr's main motivations for being reincarnated into the past. He wants to use his knowledge of the future to grow strong quickly and to gain allies that will help him defeat the demons this time around.
  • Shock and Awe: Thanks to his mastery of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, Zephyr gained the ability to use electricity through explosive acceleration for both offense and defense.
  • Stealth Insult: When counting down a list of three things of what Dariel the Divine Archer needed from him, Zephyr made sure to put down his fingers one by one until only his middle finger remained up.
  • Stealthy Teleportation: Thanks to the upgraded <Silver Key> perk, Zephyr can move himself in and out of it in addition to countless items of varying sizes. This allows him to discreetly teleport himself into the Silver Room to dodge attacks, like he did with Blue Dragon Artalis's <Dragon Breath>.
  • The Strategist: Zephyr always comes up with a strategy for the opponents he faces and never rushes into battle without one.
  • Strong and Skilled: Due to Zephyr's immense strength and vast knowledge, he definitely is this.
  • Student–Master Team: After convincing Ned to side with him, Zephyr and Ned became this due to Ned having been Zephyr's master in their previous lives with Ned teaching him the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts.
  • Suicide Attack: After lowering Tartarus's guard by pretending to consider The God of Demons's offer, Zephyr latched onto Tartarus's right hand and blew himself up by activating the curse Altair put on him, taking the right hand with him.
  • Super Strength: Seeing as how a dragonified Zephyr could pull Blue Dragon Artalis out of the Lake of Life like one would pull out a fish despite being much, MUCH smaller than it, he definitely has this while under <Dragonification>.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: Seeing as how Zephyr became the strongest of all of humanity in his previous life, he definitely did this to Ned.
  • Sword Beam: To counter Dariel the Divine Archer's <Crimson Meteor> skill, Zephyr used a combination of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts and the Dragon Heart to create a dragon-shaped beam, which destroyed the imbued arrows mid-air.
  • Tainted Veins: Had these while he was powering himself up with Zagan and Belial. After circulating mana with <Mana Flow>, his veins started returning to their normal color and after White Rose stuck the last poisoned needle into Zephyr's head, Zephyr completely returned to normal while doubling his stats.
  • Training from Hell: Zephyr subjected himself to this for the two weeks before the Blue Dragon Raid. To further increase the output of the Dragon Heart and the duration of <Dragonification>, Zephyr constantly practiced, ripped out his own scales before using <Language Enchantment>/<Dragon Tongue> to forge even more Black Dragon Arrows, and killed countless monsters for Mana Stones and territory reclamation. It was to the point that on the night before the Blue Dragon Raid, Zephyr devoured a whole steak right before Ned's eyes before excusing himself to take a long rest.
  • Transferable Memory: Upon being reincarnated ten years into the past, Zephyr was left with only his memories in addition to nine perks the gods gave him.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: Gram displays even stronger power against dragons, making it an ideal weapon when facing one.
  • Winds of Destiny, Change!: Thanks to the <Strong Luck> perk, Zephyr is granted about 30 seconds of immense luck with each use for a total of three uses. He weaponizes <Strong Luck> by using it to rush straight to the Tomb of the Fallen Princess's Boss Room and to raise the chance of the Dragon Heart being successfully implanted to 100%. In other words, Zephyr used <Strong Luck> to turn those situations into anything but chance.
  • Words Can Break My Bones: Thanks to the successful transplant of the Dragon Heart, Zephyr can use <Language Enchantment>, which allows him to control the target. At first, due to the capacity of the Dragon Heart being initially set to 1% to prevent it from going berserk, the effect only lasted for ten seconds per use. He figured that out by testing it on Georgios. However, after Zephyr achieved the second form of <Dragonification>, it is unknown how long the duration now lasts.
  • World's Strongest Man: Was considered to be the strongest of the humans, which was why the gods gave him a second chance.

The princess of the Kingdom of Cayenne on the continent of Aslan where the story takes place. Altair was Zephyr's lover in their previous lives, and Zephyr is strongly determined to save her this time around.

Tropes:

  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Altair is very beautiful, and is clearly on the side of humanity.
  • Blue Blood: In addition to being the Crown Princess, Altair is also the Grand Duchess of Lindell, the territory she was awarded when she turned 16.
  • Born Lucky: Let's see...incredible looks, talent, noble bloodline, being the next in line to the throne due to Polaris giving up his right of succession to become a Priest of Light and her other older brother being too sick to become the next king...Altair really was born lucky. Too bad said luck was not enough for her to survive in her previous life.
  • Character Level: Before meeting Zephyr in their current lives, Altair was stuck at Level 2 of the Ancient Magics of Medea. However, after absorbing the Crystal of Magic, Altair became Level 3, and Eurydice speculated that she might reach Level 8, something Eurydice couldn't do.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Although Altair meant for it to stop Zephyr from flipping people off, he used the curse she placed on him to blow himself and take Tartarus's right hand with him.
  • Connected All Along: Altair is the descendant of Eurydice and Georgios, two of The Twelve Heroes who fought against the demons a thousand years ago and the Fallen Princess and the Gatekeeper of the Tomb of the Fallen Princess, respectively. After Zephyr purified Eurydice, she transplanted the Dragon Heart into him and after Zephyr defeated and purified Georgios, he took Georgios's sword Gram and the dragon slayer's armor. Altair is also the sister of Polaris Albert Cayenne, the youngest cardinal in the Temple of Light and the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers, in addition to being the cousin of Lucius Giornetti, the current Holy One of Light/Saint of Light.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Altair kept a spare branch from the Tree of Life in case the original core of the magic circle protecting the fort was stolen, which came in handy after Elder Heron did just that.
  • Didn't See That Coming: After waking up from the week-long slumber caused by the Crystal of Magic, Altair essentially taunted Zephyr, daring him to try to persuade her within a month—no, three weeks—to make her and her forces move. However, Altair did not anticipate just how prepared Zephyr was to convince her of the Blue Dragon Raid; she and her companions were utterly shocked by the huge pile of scrolls that Zephyr summoned from the Silver Key. Instead of taking a month or three weeks, they mobilized in a few days.
  • Doppelgänger: While Altair was engaging in the Blue Dragon Raid, she had Lady Katie—one of her servants—disguise as her and go shopping and traveling in a luxurious carriage to preserve her image as a princess of debauchery. Altair also had Lady Katie sign off on the Thorn Mountain Range Clearing Project in her stead to make new farmland in order to draw the Tartarus Worshippers' attention while Zephyr and his party teamed up with the elves to save the Danakil Plains.
  • Energy Absorption: The <Dark Hand> skill absorbs energy with the red hands absorbing stamina and the blue hands absorbing mana.
  • Forceful Kiss: Gave one to Zephyr on the night before the Blue Dragon Raid to cast <Kiss of Darkness> on him. When Zephyr told her exactly what she wanted, due to the shock of him telling her that she had once died for him and that he came of his own accord to prevent her death, this made her angry with her strangling him with a red <Dark Hand>. To erase all doubts of who he is and what his motives are, Zephyr returned the favor by giving HER a Forceful Kiss to make her recast <Kiss of Darkness>.
  • For Great Justice: Altair was the one to inspire Zephyr to fight for humanity in their previous lives, when all he wanted at first was success and to fulfill Ned's dying wish for revenge.
  • Heroic Lineage: Is descended from The Grand Sorceress Princess Eurydice and The Knight Georgios, two of The Twelve Heroes. Judging by how Altair is working to oppose the Tartarus Worshippers, she is following in their footsteps.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Altair sacrificed herself in the Demon War, letting go of Zephyr's hand. This devastated him.
  • Hidden Depths: Altair appears to be a spoiled princess who puts her immense talents to waste, but that couldn't be further from the truth; Altair had been training in secret and used her "search for a groom" quest to attract strong comrades, all so she can oppose the Tartarus Worshippers and covertly gather strong and trustworthy allies.
  • Innocence Lost: Zephyr speculated that Altair became doubtful and sharp by the time they met in their previous lives due to losing so many people, which was why Altair was so trusting towards him in their current lives; because those losses haven't happened yet, and probably won't happen thanks to Zephyr. Except not really. Even in her current life, Altair does not believe in unexpected strokes of luck or fate. Now as to how much the deaths of those close to her amplified her doubtfulness and sharpness...
  • Kiss of Death: Downplayed in that <Kiss of Darkness> does not kill the target, but it causes the target to fall under mind control with their combat prowess weakened and being forced to confess.
  • The Lost Lenore: Zephyr was forced to watch as Altair sacrificed herself, and had to bury her with his own two hands. This time around, Zephyr will do anything in his power to prevent this from happening again.
  • Love Interest: Altair was Zephyr's lover in their previous lives, and Zephyr only has eyes for her.
  • Power Crystal: The Crystal of Magic is this. In their previous lives, Altair revealed to Zephyr that she had hit a wall when learning the Ancient Magics of Medea at around the age of 20. However, in their current lives, by absorbing the Crystal of Magic, Altair will become Zephyr's strongest ally and will be able to smoothly tune the Dragon Heart, immensely boosting Zephyr's own power as well.
  • The Power of Lust: Altair used a promise of continuing what they couldn't finish the night before to motivate Zephyr into killing Blue Dragon Artalis in only ten minutes. Zephyr happily and eagerly obliged.
  • Properly Paranoid: Due to qualified nobles, strong adventurers, and even her own older brother refusing to help her for so long with her only being able to rely on people she built up trust with, Altair became suspicious of Zephyr, seeing as he did what she couldn't do in regards to the Blue Dragon Raid within only one month. After observing Zephyr during the two weeks before the Blue Dragon Raid, she realized that he had some sort of goal and that if he were to develop malicious intent or was under the orders of another dangerous individual, no one could stop him.
  • Resting Recovery: Was forced into a deep sleep as she absorbed the Crystal of Magic. She woke up a week later.
  • Royal Blood: Altair is a princess and is the princess of the Kingdom of Cayenne.
  • Royal Decree: Gave one to the Lord of Danakil in writing, and had Philip Pilgrim send it. After Captain Regulus, the Lord of Danakil's oldest son, learned of the letter, he rushed over to the medical relief station at the Danakil Plains to see what was going on, and bowed to the princess after learning that the letter was a decree from her.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: In both timelines, Altair held back the real Shadow Disciple of Jinryang of the East, allowing Zephyr to pretend to be the Shadow Disciple and fool Ned in the current timeline. In their previous lives, Altair personally trained Zephyr. She taught him Mana Control/Pressure Points, which allowed him to temporarily stop the Fallen Princess from using any skills on him.
  • Seamless Spontaneous Lie: Altair is quite good at making these, such as when she convinced Captain Regulus that Zephyr was the Exalted One who received revelation from The Goddess of Light Aria to save Lucius and the world. She even showed him a forged document that was supposedly sent from Lucius himself, and later also convinced the recently-freed prisoners of the remote village near the Great Elfen Forest that Zephyr was their salvation. Zephyr called her a master of bullshit and could barely hold in his laughter both times.
  • Sensor Character: Is immediately able to detect the arrival of anyone by sensing changes in her mana field, and can hear the gist of conversations of people in her mana field as well.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Altair inherited her ancestor Eurydice's magic, which was why Eurydice wanted Zephyr to give the Crystal of Magic to her.
  • Support Party Member: With the <Moirai> skill, Altair is able to tone a subject's mana. Altair harnessed the thick mana density of the Great Elfen Forest, the overflowing vitality from the Water of Life boosted by the <Hermes's Secret Skill> perk, and the dragon's power strengthened by <Dragonifcation> to upgrade Zephyr's <Dragonification> to its second form. In addition, thanks to her <Circle of Magic> skill, Altair can boost the power and duration of spells by 100% within the field, which was really useful when Zephyr was forging the Black Dragon Longbow and Black Dragon Arrows with Blacksmith Noel.
  • Status Buff: Right before the Blue Dragon Raid commenced, Altair—along with Elise and Kiara—casted strengthening spells on Zephyr.
  • Tendrils of Darkness: The <Thorn of Sins> skill launches a myriad of thorny vines at the target, binding the target and inflicting immense pain through the thorns digging into the target's skin.
  • Touch Telepathy: Because of Altair's incomplete <Communion> skill, by touching someone, she can distinguish if a person is an enemy or not based on feelings of hostility or warmth. In her previous life, she would later be able to see the memories of whomever she touched. However, in her current life, she currently has no control over when that happens due to her not mastering it yet with <Communion> being an unexpectedly advanced skill.
  • Truth Serum: <Kiss of Darkness> acts as a spell-version of one, which was why Altair casted it on Zephyr; to find out if he was working for anyone dangerous and who sent him. However, Zephyr had anticipated it and even wanted her to cast it on him seeing as she had yet to master <Communion>, due to its ability to reveal the truth to Altair.
  • Women Prefer Strong Men: Before considering marriage, Altair does not even want to utter a word to weak men. Which was why countless men of nobility either lined up—or hired proxies to line up on their behalf—to fight Ophelia Amleth, Altair's First Guardian Knight, for a chance to have a conversation with Altair. Turns out this was just an excuse to seek out strong and reliable companions to fight the Tartarus Worshippers without arousing suspicion.

    Fade, the King of Poisons

Fade, the King of Poisons

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fade_61.PNG
Click here to see Fade in the current timeline

One of Zephyr's mentors from his previous life. Fade taught Zephyr all he knew about poisons and gave Zephyr all of his recipes before the world ended.

Tropes:

  • Face of a Thug: Fade had half of his face burned off. However, although Fade was—in fact—a member of Persephone, he seemed to be a genuinely good person; he taught all he knew about poisons to Zephyr and others in addition to giving away all of his poison recipes to Zephyr, hoping that his poisons can save one more person and kill one more monster.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Fade might look horrifying and might have been a former assassin, but he eagerly and willingly gave all of his poison recipes—which he spent his entire life working on—to Zephyr in hopes of Zephyr being able to save one more person and kill one more monster. In addition, in both timelines, Fade risked his life to enter the Great Elfen Forest to find his lost companions in addition to treating the poisoned elves.
  • The Immune: Seems to be immune to poisons, judging by how he could freely fight Blue Dragon Artalis within the poison fog during the previous timeline.
  • Master Poisoner: Fade definitely is this seeing as he is an expert on poisons and is the creator of the 72 Deadly Poisons of Fade, the King of Poisons. Which are named after him.
  • Meaningful Name: "The Viper", due to his affinity for poisons.
  • Mentor Archetype: Fade was this to Zephyr and several other people, teaching them about poisons and their effects.
  • Professional Killer: Fade was a member of Persephone, a legendary guild full of assassins who boost their stats with poisons and use a combination of outstanding martial arts and deadly poisons to take out any target they set their sights on.
  • Sadist: According to Zephyr, the reason Belial causes such immense pain is because Fade was extremely sadistic.
  • True Companions: Zephyr considers Fade as such. Seeing as how Fade so readily gave away all of his recipes to Zephyr, Fade sees Zephyr as such as well...at least in their previous lives. As to how Fade will interact with Zephyr in their current lives...

    Dariel the Divine Archer

Dariel the Divine Archer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dariel.PNG
Click here to see him with the Black Dragon Longbow and the Black Dragon Arrows

A High Elf originating from the Great Elfen Forest and one of the ten strongest people in Aslan. He is Kiara's brother and the son of Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest. Dariel is a phenomenal archer who was considered to be the strongest and made demons tremble in fear in the original timeline. He was one of Zephyr's companions in their previous lives after he joined the Human Resistance Army, but started off as being hostile towards Zephyr and Zephyr's party in the current timeline until Zephyr treated the poisoned elves.

Tropes:

  • Badass Cape: Dons one of these.
  • Because Destiny Says So: Dariel does not aspire to become the King of the Great Elfen Forest since the Tree of Life told him he wasn't fated to become one, instead serving as the Queen's Bow because the Tree of Life told him to do so. Even when the Great Elfen Forest fell into crisis, Dariel did not prepare to ascend to the throne nor did he perform the role of a village chief, saying that wasn't his role. After the remaining High Elves left, Elder Heron took on the role of leader. Because of that, several elves became disillusioned with Dariel and were more than happy to accompany Elder Heron as he betrayed the rear squad and rushed to the final Seal Box hidden within the Twelve Towers in the Great Elfen Forest. However, after meeting Zephyr, this might change...
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just before Zephyr—who was frozen thanks to Blue Dragon Artalis's <Language Enchantment>—could be blasted with a <Dragon Breath>, Dariel fired two rounds of <Crimson Meteor>, severely wounding Blue Dragon Artalis. It was part of Zephyr's plan in which Zephyr acted as bait by causing as much pain as possible while Dariel fired as much as he pleases. Dariel is amazed that it actually worked.
  • Brother–Sister Team: Is this with his sister Kiara, who provides him with the coordinates necessary for him to shoot enemies from long distances and from dense cover. In addition, her <Jewel Seed> skill increases the effectiveness of Dariel's arrows exponentially, allowing for the casting of spells such as <Blue Storm> and <Flame Dance> as the arrows wrapped in floral vines fly past.
  • Crafted from Animals: The Black Dragon Longbow and Black Dragon Arrows were crafted from Zephyr's—a dragonoid's—scales, harvested by Zephyr himself after first achieving his second form of <Dragonification>.
  • The Dreaded: To demons, to the point he made them tremble in fear.
  • Enemies Equals Greatness: After Zephyr told Dariel the reason why he was weak, he came to realize that powerful enemies—like Blue Dragon Artalis—were stepping stones for him to realize his life's mission.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: As a High Elf, Dariel has cross-shaped pupils.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Is the "responsible sibling" to Kiara's "foolish sibling".
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Dariel has such a ridiculously amazing aim, he can easily hit a target 1.015 kilometers away...like Zephyr. He can hit targets up to 1.5 kilometers away in twelve seconds with regular skills, and in four seconds with the <Crimson Meteor> skill.
  • Inhumanly Beautiful Race: Dariel, along with the other elves, is quite beautiful.
  • In Harmony with Nature: Dariel, along with the other elves, can restructure the plants of the Great Elfen Forest to make a comfortable nest as well as to make an impenetrable fortress.
  • Let Me Tell You a Story: Did this to Zephyr in their previous lives whenever they were in a hopeless situation. Dariel would tell Zephyr stories of the Great Elfen Forest around a bonfire, as if to chase the darkness away. Thanks to that, Zephyr knows a lot about the Great Elfen Forest, which he used to his advantage in his current life.
  • Long-Lived: Elves have lifespans several times longer than those of humans with normal elves having an average lifespan of 300 years while High Elves have an average lifespan of 500 years. Naturally, since Dariel is a High Elf, this applies to him too.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Dariel’s skills with a bow make him a very ideal one.
  • Magic Missile Storm: The <Crimson Meteor> skill makes Dariel's arrows three times stronger and faster than regular arrows. Zephyr was forced to use the power of the Dragon Heart lest his allies be annihilated if he were to instead dodge. Even at a distance of 1.5 kilometers, it would only take four seconds for the arrows to hit.
  • Master Archer: Dariel was considered to be the strongest archer. Seeing as he can easily hit a target 1.015 kilometers away and made demons tremble in fear, Dariel really is a force to be reckoned with.
  • Not So Stoic: Dariel seemed like a rather stoic individual at first, but he really isn't; Dariel broke down after explaining to Zephyr why he couldn't face Blue Dragon Artalis, was shocked after Zephyr snapped his bow in half, was excited when anticipating the weapon Zephyr would make for him, and was horrified when Zephyr—after achieving the second form of <Dragonification>—started ripping off scales to make Dariel's new bow.
  • Pointy Ears: Has these, in addition to all the other elves.
  • Poisoned Weapons: Before shooting Blue Dragon Artalis, Dariel made sure to dip the arrowheads in extreme venom—presumably Asmodeus—to inflict even more damage and agony.
  • The Reliable One: Zephyr sees Dariel as such, to the point he made it a top priority to make an alliance with Dariel and the other elves in the current timeline.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Dariel may be an excellent fighter, but he doesn't know much about money, thinking 50,000 gold was "rather cheap".
  • Telepathy: Seems to be able to mentally communicate with any elf, even over long distances.
  • True Companions: In their previous lives, Zephyr and Dariel were very close, to the point Dariel would tell Zephyr stories about the Great Elfen Forest and Zephyr would eagerly listen. In their current lives, Dariel started off as being hostile towards Zephyr due to a general mistrust of humans, and was still cautious of Zephyr even as he was treating the poisoned elves. However, after Zephyr saved the poisoned elves, Dariel showed sincere gratitude and after Zephyr rid Dariel of his indecisiveness by breaking his bow, Zephyr earned Dariel's complete trust.

Altair's Companions

Altair's trustworthy companions whom she gathered and verified with her incomplete <Communion> skill. Altair gathered them to help her oppose the Tartarus Worshippers.

Tropes In General

  • True Companions: Due to Altair's verification, she knows they are completely trustworthy. They, in turn, are completely loyal to her.

    Ophelia Amleth

Ophelia Amleth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ophelia_5.PNG

Altair's First Guardian Knight and one of the ten strongest people in Aslan. She serves as a gatekeeper to those wishing to court Altair, with only those who land an effective blow on her being allowed to have a conversation with Altair.

Tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Claimed she only intercepted Ned at the rooftop of Lindell Castle due to vaguely sensing something out of place, but Ned saw right through her lie; she had been following him since he was at the second floor of the east wing, which she revealed after he called her out on said lie.
  • Death Glare: Gave one to Ned after she and Altair approached Zephyr and Ned. She did so due to his resemblance to his sister, who is the real Shadow Disciple.
  • Disapproving Look: Shot one to Ned and called him pathetic after he was traumatized by Elise's <Angel's Embrace> skill.
  • Kick Chick: When not using her sword, a lot of Ophelia's strongest attacks are her kicks with her able to cleanly slice huge boulders in half with a single kick and stop the stomp of a huge monster with a single raised leg.
  • Lady of War: Ophelia is one of the ten strongest people in Aslan and has beaten countless men who wished to marry Altair, and their proxies, without breaking a sweat.
  • Magical Eye: Ophelia's eyes are the part of her with the highest stats on her body to the point that she is able to detect Ned even with both of his Mist Bracelets on, which only Legendary-Grade detection skills can do. In addition, due to stealth and curtain skills not working on her, the Real Shadow Disciple, Smiling Woman, had to slip away from her because Ophelia could not be fooled.
  • Only the Worthy May Pass: Only allows the people she deems worthy to engage in the Dragon Raid due to it being Altair's long-cherished wish. That was the real reason why Ophelia intercepted Ned; because she had yet to test him, and wanted to do so.
  • Underestimating Badassery: After analyzing Zephyr's power, Ophelia believed him to be weak for someone who possessed a Dragon Heart. However, Altair pointed out that the Dragon Heart hadn't settled in completely, and Zephyr will become immensely more powerful once it does.
  • The Worf Effect: Despite how powerful Ophelia is, she quickly lost all three bouts against Zephyr; Zephyr parried her sword in the first bout, Ophelia's strongest thrusts couldn't even penetrate his skin in the second bout, and Zephyr immediately disarmed and blasted Ophelia before putting a clawed hand behind her neck in the third bout.

    Philip Pilgrim

Philip Pilgrim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/philip_pilgrim.PNG

The leader of one of the Top Three Merchantries, the Pilgrim Merchantry. He was one of Altair's sponsors and one of her three mentors who led her to become a pivotal figure for humanity. He confronted Zephyr at one of the parties at Lindell Castle along with Elise Brenta and his son Edwin. He and his son came from the Danakil Plains—Aslan's largest granary—and have been helping those affected by Blue Dragon Artalis, one of the eight most difficult challenges in the world.

Tropes:

  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Gave one to Ned as Ned tried to avoid Elise and her <Angel's Embrace> skill.
  • The Cynic: Sees the Temple of Light as scammers who didn't protect the Danakil Plains from war, unlike what the Temple of Light claimed to.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Could see through Zephyr's <Transfiguration>—albeit it being much weaker than the Real Shadow Disciple's—in addition to immediately seeing his worth. He also realized that Zephyr was the one who chose Lucius and not the other way around, and that their master-servant would be reversed soon enough. Philip was right, except it already happened.
  • Family Business: What the Pilgrim Merchantry is to him and his son.
  • The Mentor: Philip advised Altair to pretend to be a princess of debauchery while growing her strength in the shadows, and that he would support her. This was to avoid interference from the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Used his vast wealth to support Altair.
  • Protectorate: Zephyr resolved to protect Philip from the Real Shadow Disciple, who killed him in his previous life. This is to vastly reduce the amount of sacrifices necessary to conquer the desert. Zephyr decided to keep Philip close, since putting him in the Silver Key would be a very bad idea with the last person the previous owner put in it going insane.
  • Proud Merchant Race: Is proud of being a merchant and is very good at being one.
  • Wealthy Philanthropist: Always brings back food with him when he visits the Danakil Plains—something that is very much appreciated by everyone—since their once-abundant farmland with rolling fields of grain was reduced to a desolate wasteland thanks to Blue Dragon Artalis.

    Edwin Pilgrim

Edwin Pilgrim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/edwin_2.PNG

The young leader of one of the Top Three Merchantries, the Pilgrim Merchantry. He confronted Zephyr at one of the parties at Lindell Castle along with Elise Brenta and his father Philip. He and his father came from the Danakil Plains—Aslan's largest granary—and have been helping those affected by Blue Dragon Artalis, one of the eight most difficult challenges in the world.

Tropes:

  • Family Business: What the Pilgrim Merchantry is to him and his father.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Is a merchant, just like his father. Also, just like his father, he served Altair well.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Did not see Zephyr's worth at first while Philip and Elise did.

    Elise Brenta

Elise Brenta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elise_2.PNG

The Healer Captain of the Second Parish of the Temple of Light Lindell's Temple Knight Order. She confronted Zephyr at one of the parties at Lindell Castle along with Philip Pilgrim and his son Edwin.

Tropes:

  • Barrier Warrior: Elise's <Barrier of Light> skill was strong enough to completely block a huge energy blast coming from the Door of the Great Elfen Forest.
  • Healing Hands: Given that she is a Healer Captain, she must be a phenomenal healer just like Arno. She proved so by keeping Zephyr well while his <Dragonification> was being upgraded.
  • Intimate Healing: What the <Angel's Embrace> skill is. By embracing someone, Elise can ascertain the health and physical characteristics of whoever is in her arms.
  • Lecherous Licking: While agreeing with Philip about Zephyr, Elise licked her lips in quite the lecherous manner.
  • The Medic: Is the one for Altair and her companions.
  • Naughty Tentacles: One of her skills, the aforementioned <Angel's Embrace>, works by extending feelers that crawl all over the subject. Zephyr wanted Elise to just get it over with, and Ned was very reluctant and was utterly traumatized after Elise performed it on him.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Is taller than Zephyr and Ned, and is quite beautiful.
  • Status Buff: Right before the Blue Dragon Raid commenced, Elise—along with Altair and Kiara—casted strengthening spells on Zephyr.

    Lady Katie

Lady Katie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lady_katie.PNG

One of Altair's servants. While Altair was engaging in the Blue Dragon Raid, she had Lady Katie pretend to be her and travel in a luxurious carrage to do shopping and sightseeing to preserve Altair's image as a princess of debauchery.

Tropes:

Gods and Angels

Gods of various things who stand above mortals, and the angels who serve them. They are only interested in people who entertain them and/or can serve their own needs.

Tropes In General

  • Berserk Button: The blasphemous symbol. It serves as a reminder of the shameful defeat the gods suffered in the past. Just drawing it is enough to kill whoever drew it.
  • It Amused Me: The gods only help those who entertain them and/or they can use, which was why they abandoned Earth after they could not get anything more from it.
  • Jerkass Gods: The gods only care about getting what they want, and abandoned Earth after they could get nothing more from it. The only reasons they helped Zephyr were because he was entertaining and to serve their own needs.
  • Physical Religion: Everyone knows that the gods exist, which is why people worship said gods.

    Elite Angel Mercedes

Elite Angel Mercedes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mercedes_32.png

An elite angel who serves as a messenger for the gods. She was the one who sent Zephyr back in time and gave him the <Silver Key> perk.

Tropes:

  • Big Fancy House: The Silver Key is connected to the guest room of Mercedes's villa, which is extraordinarily large and luxurious.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: At first, Mercedes was nice to Zephyr...until he voiced his suspicions as to why the gods would want to help him.
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: Judging on her appearance, Mercedes seems to be based on an archangel.
  • Cool Key: The Silver Key is quite a pretty key.
  • Emissary from the Divine: Serves as a messenger for the gods.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Mercedes is dressed in gold and white and has golden hair, and is a divine being.
  • Hammerspace: Judging by how Zephyr can easily store a large Predator corpse and its blood puddle in addition to a myriad of countless other items, the space the Silver Key leads to must be really large.
  • It Only Works Once: Zephyr drawing the blasphamous symbol. Mercedes warned him that if he tried that again, not only would he lose all of his perks, he would also be designated as prey with every single person who hunts him gaining the perks taken from him.
  • Loophole Abuse: Normally, higher spiritual beings cannot enter the world of lower beings. However, Mercedes was able to ignore this since she was the one who sent Zephyr back in time.
  • Our Angels Are Different: Mercedes is based on a winged angel and not the Biblical ones.
  • Super Empowering: Due to essentially being Zephyr's manager, Mercedes can also give Zephyr perks despite not being a god, like when she gave him the <Silver Key> perk and when she later upgraded it.
  • Teleportation: Was able to teleport Zephyr to the guest room of her villa via the upgraded Silver Key in addition to teleporting herself, her pet, and Zephyr to a different location within the villa so they could sit and have tea.
  • You Have No Idea Who You're Dealing With: Let's just say Mercedes was not-so-happy with Zephyr after he demanded her pay him for the knowledge of how he knew about the blasphemous symbol.

    The God of Demons Tartarus

The God of Demons Tartarus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tartuarus.png

The God of Demons and the Big Bad of the story. Tartarus destroyed Earth in the original timeline, and was one of the gods who demanded Zephyr be reincarnated so that he can restore his flawless record.

Tropes:

    The God of Debt Usra

The God of Debt Usra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/usragodofdebt.PNG

The God of Debt and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr by giving him the <Wall of Iron> perk.

Tropes:

  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Usra killed the turtle he was holding after Zephyr bypassed the collection and flipped him off.
  • Death as Comedy: The reason Usra gave Zephyr the <Wall of Iron> perk was because he wanted Zephyr to die an amusing death.
  • Loan Shark: Well, Usra is The God of Debt for a reason. The <Wall of Iron> skill does not nullify damage, but accumulates it as debt. Once the users' mana reaches zero, they will take all the accumulated damage at once.
  • Super Empowering: Usra can give the <Wall of Iron> skill to others.

    The Goddess of Light Aria

The Goddess of Light Aria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aria_9.PNG

The Goddess of Light and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr by giving him the <Sword of Light> perk.

Tropes:

  • 24-Hour Armor: Aria is never seen without her full-body armor.
  • Divine Intervention: Aria was the one who responded to Zephyr's ultimatum, granting him conditional access to the Sword of Light and allowing him to defeat and purify Eurydice.
  • Lady of War: Aria seems to be one judging by her status as one of the Three Supreme Gods and the fact she owns incredibly powerful weapons such as the Sword of Light.
  • Light Is Not Good: Aria might be The Goddess of Light, but she had no problems with abandoning humanity after they and Earth had nothing left to offer her.
  • Loan Shark: Despite not being The God of Debt, Aria still manages to be the largest money lender in Aslan, and has many slaves working in her temples because of this.
  • Pet the Dog: Aria might not be nice, but she genuinely cared for Lucius and had Zephyr save him from Georgios.
  • Super Empowering: The Priests of Light use The Goddess of Light's power to fight, defend, and support. In addition, Aria gave Lucius her stigmata, making him her Holy One in addition to giving Zephyr conditional access to the Sword of Light.
  • Top God: The Goddess of Light Aria is one of the Three Supreme Gods along with The God of the Sky Akairus/Archaerus and one other.
  • White Magic: The Goddess of Light Aria is the source of all the divine/light magic the humans have been using for fighting, defense, and support.

    The Goddess of Luck

The Goddess of Luck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goddess_of_luck.PNG

The Goddess of Luck and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr by giving him the <Strong Luck> perk.

Tropes:

  • Divine Intervention: Towards the end of Zephyr's previous life, she gave him some additional luck, helping him a bit.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: The Goddess of Luck has pink hair, and seems to be really nice.
  • Rule of Three: The <Strong Luck> perk can only be used three times.
  • Super Empowering: The Goddess of Light can give the <Strong Luck> skill to others.
  • Token Good Teammate: Seems to be the only god who genuinely cares for Zephyr, as seen when she helped him in his previous life and when she was praying for him while he was giving his ultimatum.
  • Winds of Destiny, Change!: The <Strong Luck> perk can make the impossible both possible and guaranteed.

    The God of Medicine Hermes

The God of Medicine Hermes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/god_of_medicine_0.PNG

The God of Medicine and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr by giving him the <Hermes's Secret Skill> perk.

Tropes:

  • Healer God: Judging by his title, The God of Medicine seems to be this.
  • Magic Potion: The God of Medicine's perk, <Hermes's Secret Skill>, boosts the effectiveness of all medicinal items and potions by 500%.
  • No Name Given: The God of Medicine's name has yet to be outright given. However, based on the perk he gave to Zephyr, his name seems to be "Hermes".
  • Our Gods Are Different: The God of Medicine is the only currently-seen god who does not appear to be humanoid, instead looking like a white goat with antlers.
  • Super Empowering: The God of Medicine can give the <Hermes's Secret Skill> skill to others.

    The God of Death

The God of Death

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/god_of_death_7.PNG

The God of Death and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr by giving him the <Revive> perk.

Tropes:

    The God of ???

The God of ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/god_of_question_mark_3.PNG

The God of ??? and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr by giving him the <Egg of Mystical>/<Divine Beast Egg> perk.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gift: Depending on what hatches from the <Egg of Mystical>, it might become this.
  • It May Help You on Your Quest: The mystical creature that hatches may or may not prove to be useful.
  • The Farmer and the Viper: Worst case scenario, the mystical creature might end up attacking Zephyr after being hatched. Which was why Zephyr didn't want to use the <Egg of Mystical> perk during his fight against the Fallen Princess.

    The God of Blacksmiths

The God of Blacksmiths

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/god_of_blacksmiths_1.PNG

The God of Blacksmiths/Blacksmithing and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr.

Tropes:

The God of the Sky Akairus

The God of the Sky Akairus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/god_of_sky.PNG

The God of the Sky and one of the nine gods who supports Zephyr. He doesn't want The God of Death to have Zephyr.

Tropes:

  • Spell My Name with an S: Depending on the translation, his name may be spelled as either "Akairus" or "Archaerus".
  • Top God: The God of the Sky Akairus is one of the Three Supreme Gods along with The Goddess of Light Aria and one other.

Temple of Light

The main religion of Aslan. The Temple of Light worships The Goddess of Light Aria. However, despite that, the Temple of Light is not as altruistic as it first appears.

Tropes In General

  • Corrupt Church: The Temple of Light runs on slaves made up of people who lost their homes to monsters and adventurers who have to pay back their vast medical debts. It was also behind the Dungeon Bubble Break and ruined countless lives.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: A trusted organization that sold worthless financial products at massively inflated prices, kept on raising said prices, cheated countless people, caused a massive economic breakdown, and remained largely unscathed while countless lives were ruined...
  • Greed: What motivated the Temple of Light to cause the Dungeon Bubble Break.
  • The Hedonist: Many priests in the Temple of Light are this, wanting to fill their pockets even as the world was coming to an end in the original timeline. They went so far as to conspire with the Tartarus Worshippers, who are supposed to be their mortal enemies, just so they can live comfortably.
  • Light Is Not Good: Despite being the Temple of Light, it has slaves and is in cahoots with the Tartarus Worshippers with some of the highest-ranking priests also being Tartarus Worshippers.
  • People Puppets: Priests of Light can control the movements of anyone branded with a Slave Mark. However, other Priests of Light cannot overwrite Lucius's forced commands due to his status as a Holy One with only the Pope being able to match Lucius's capabilities.
  • Vow of Celibacy: Technically, Priests of Light are supposed to never marry and must remain celibate. Except they don't really follow that doctrine.

    Anna Primrose

Anna Primrose

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anna_5.PNG
Click here to see her as White Rose

A nun and priest in the Temple of Light. Anna Primrose is also known as White Rose and works as a broker who deals in monster corpses, gear, and stolen goods with connections in the criminal underworld.

Tropes:

  • Anger Born of Worry: The reason why Anna slapped Zephyr.
  • Arms Dealer: As White Rose, Anna deals in weapons in addition to numerous other goods (which may or may not have been stolen).
  • Berserk Button: DO NOT even think about defaulting on your debts.
  • Crush Blush: After starting to develop feelings for Zephyr, Anna sometimes gets these around him.
  • Friend in the Black Market: Becomes this to Zephyr. She provided him with various items in exchange for monster corpses and poisons.
  • Human Resources: Was about to have Zephyr's organs harvested for him not paying back his debt. Thank goodness he had that Predator corpse on him.
  • Mistaken For Couple: Gote, Dale, and Marco thought Zephyr managed to win Anna over after they saw her leave their room and saw the Ring of Purification on Zephyr's finger. He had no idea what they were talking about.
  • Nun Too Holy: Despite being a nun in the Temple of Light, Anna is also involved in the black market and has a nose for money.
  • Right Under Their Noses: White Rose conducts business in the Temple of Light, despite her dealing in illegal items. However, due to being a priest in the Temple of Light and the Temple of Light's own corruption, she gets away with it most of the time.
  • Tsundere: Anna slapped Zephyr after forcing both him and Ned onto their knees as they were about to fight and threatened to kill him if he caused more trouble and didn't pay back his debt. Anna also gently touched the slap mark and told Zephyr to be more careful since she can't protect him outside of the temple.
  • Wrong Assumption: After seeing Zephyr's fighting prowess and seeing him power himself up with Zagan and Belial, Anna assumed that he was a former member of Persephone. Anna was wrong, but Zephyr let her believe that so that she could spread rumors on the black market and have Fade, the King of Poisons look for him.

    Lucius Giornetti

Lucius Giornetti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucius_without_armor_4.PNG
Click here to see Lucius in his armor
Click here to see Lucius after gearing up

The current Holy One of Light/Saint of Light who received his stigmata at the age of 7 from The Goddess of Light Aria. He works as the Commander of the Temple Knights in the Third Parish of the Temple of Light, and acted as the Raid Party Leader for the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. One of his duties as a Holy One is to punish heretics, which makes Tartarus Worshippers his enemies. After Zephyr saved him, Leona, and Arno from the Gatekeeper Georgios, they ended up believing that Zephyr and Ned are actually allies passionate in ridding heresy, and become Zephyr's and Ned's allies.

Tropes:

  • Act of True Love: Lucius agreed to ingest the Princess Bug/Princess Worm without hesitation instead of letting his wife or son ingest it. Too bad Cardinal Oldin Lasker was about to feed it to his wife anyways...until Ned intervened.
  • Badass Boast: Gives one to Castor Hugo/Castor Vigo the Golden/Gold Knight during their duel.
Lucius: "Do you know why...you and your twin brother are considered to be two of the ten strongest warriors on the continent? Let me tell you. It's because...Holy Ones are sacred beings...so we can't be included within a list of ordinary humans. Otherwise, you two would have never been among the ten strongest warriors."
  • Battle Trophy: The Sun Sword after Cardinal Oldin Lasker and the Twin Knights were defeated. Before Zephyr and Ned departed the Third Parish of the Temple of Light, Lucius gave the Sun Sword to Ned.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In the original timeline, Cardinal Oldin Lasker managed to successfully brainwash Lucius and turn Lucius into his puppet. In their previous lives, Lucius was a nightmarish enemy that Zephyr was forced to defeat.
  • Break the Haughty: After being saved by Zephyr and acknowledging that he had no part in defeating the Fallen Princess (in the current timeline), Lucius realized how arrogant he had been.
  • Cast from Lifespan: Lucius's Shard of Glory/Glimpse of Glory skill is this. Lucius borrows power from the angel he will become in the future after he dies, allowing him to defeat almost any foe as long as he gives up enough of his lifespan. For his fight against Mathias who transformed into a demon, he had to give up six months of his life. Lucius explained that the continuous use of this skill is the reason why Holy Ones usually only live until their 30s.
  • Childhood Friends: With Mathias Grimmer. They were friends since they entered the academy at the age of 12, and have been friends for twenty years. At least Lucius thought.
  • Classified Information: Shard of Glory is a skill exclusive to Holy Ones that is kept top secret with the Pope and a few cardinals being the only other ones privy to its existence. That was why Mathias, despite having known Lucius for twenty years, was blindsided when Lucius used it to defeat him.
  • Connected All Along: Lucius is the cousin of both Altair Justina Cayenne, Zephyr's lover from their previous lives, and Polaris Albert Cayenne, the youngest cardinal in the Temple of Light and the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Handed one of these to Mathias before being on the receiving end of one after Mathias became a demon and was forced to rely on Shard of Glory.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Lucius figured out that Mathias was betraying him after realizing that Zephyr—who had been vetted by Ned—and Ned himself were able to momentarily neutralize the Slave Mark.
  • Fighting Your Friend: More like former friend, but Lucius fought Mathias after realizing he was a Tartarus Worshipper.
  • Good Fortune from God: Unlike most other Holy Ones who have to train until they are 15 and then participate in a tournament with the winner undergoing a sacred ritual to receive the stigmata, Lucius received the stigmata directly from The Goddess of Light Aria at the age of 7 without having to do anything. As a Holy One, Lucius became well-respected and his family got wealthy from all the blessings he gave out.
  • Good Parents: Is a loving father to his son Marius.
  • Happily Married: Is happily married to his wife Sister Claudia. Although they cannot be officially married due to being Priests of Light, they still act like a married couple and even have a child together.
  • Healing Hands: Although most likely not as skilled as Arno, Lucius can still heal really well, as seen when he completely healed Leona and Arno after they had been almost killed by Mathias.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Let's see...Lucius had no idea that Mathias actually hated him, didn't know that all of the slaves Mathias chose for the raid on the Tomb of the Fallen Princess were secretly Tartarus Worshippers, and didn't realize that many of the priests of the Third Parish of the Temple of Light were also—or were controlled by—Tartarus Worshippers until he used the Potion of True Sight/Potion of Scrutiny to see the Marked Bugs/Branded Worms inside of their bodies. Even Lucius himself realizes how horrible of a judge of character he is with Altair, Ophelia, and Philip knowing this as well.
  • The Idealist: Lucius seems to be one seeing as how he thought he didn't need to vet any of the slaves because he could just kill them if they turned out to be Tartarus Worshippers, claimed that the raid on the Tomb of the Fallen Princess was for glory instead of being strictly business, thought to rush the aforementioned raid because of Blue Dragon Artalis and Ice Dragon Merenia, wanted to hear Mathias's reason for betraying him instead of immediately killing Mathias for said betrayal, and tried to reason with Mathias even after Mathias became a demon. Judging by Lucius's reaction when Mathias as a demon told Lucius that his father used his status as a Holy One to extort money from worshippers in any way possible and accused the both of them of being the evil ones, Lucius most likely actually wanted to give those blessings and doesn't want to admit that the Temple of Light was corrupt and ruined countless lives through the Dungeon Bubble Break.
  • I Owe You My Life: One of the reasons why Lucius trusted Zephyr so quickly was because Zephyr saved him from the Gatekeeper Georgios with the other reasons being Lucius feeling The Goddess of Light's presence on Zephyr and him sensing the Dragon Heart's pressure from within Zephyr.
  • Jousting Lance: Lucius's Shining Lance/Spear of Brilliant Light is this. It gives Lucius a longer range and allows Lucius to blast foes with his Judgement skill.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Was shown to own a white cat, and despite his (previous) arrogance, is quite the kind person.
  • The Leader: Was the Commander of the Temple Knights in the Third Parish of the Temple of Light and acted as the Raid Party Leader for the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. However, he seemingly relinquished his status as leader to Zephyr after allying with him.
  • Legendary Weapon: Lucius's Shining Lance is so renown, it was only seen in books and—with the Winged Shield of Michael—costed Lucius a third of his entire fortune.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: The Winged Shield of Michael—along with the Shining Lance—were considered legendary items that were only seen in books.
  • Meaningful Name: "Lucius" is derived from the Latin word lux, which means "light". Lucius is the current Holy One and has been serving The Goddess of Light Aria ever since he was young.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Was shown to be quite muscular, and is quite strong.
  • Nasty Party: What Lucius held for the Tartarus Worshippers who hid themselves in the Temple of Light to purge them.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Despite having a vast fortune, Lucius works as the Commander of the Temple Knights in the Third Parish of the Temple of Light and acted as the Raid Party Leader for the Tomb of the Fallen Princess.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: How Lucius had no idea that Mathias actually resented him the entire time they were friends, due to Lucius taking Mathias's potential place as a Holy One.
  • Oh, Crap!: After realizing that the Golden Knight's aim after starting to use the Marked Bug's power was not to kill him, but to collapse a building to bury the brainwashed priests and his uncle in rubble.
  • The Pawn: Lucius revealed to Mathias as Mathias was dying that Holy Ones are essentially glorified playthings who are constantly forced into dangerous situations for the Temple of Light's profit.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Lucius does not resort to torture to get confessions, and will not accuse anyone without proof. Luckily, Zephyr was able to provide said proof needed to convict Cardinal Oldin Lasker.
  • Semi-Divine: As a Holy One, Lucius is given access to immense divine powers and is treated with immense respect. Once he dies and becomes an angel, it'll change from "semi" to "full".
  • Strong and Skilled: Thanks to Lucius's status as a Holy One, he has access to strength that far surpasses most, as seen when Mathias was forced to become a demon to even push Lucius into a corner, and Mathias still lost after Lucius used Shard of Glory. Not only that, Lucius expertly avoided many of the Golden Knight's attacks and even baited the Golden Knight into attacking his torso, which was protected by the Mirror Chainmail.
  • True Companions: Lucius considers Zephyr as such after Zephyr saved his life and helped defend the Third Parish of the Temple of Light, as seen when he was ready to sacrifice himself to buy time for Zephyr to get away from Polaris Albert Cayenne, the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers. Zephyr was a little moved.
  • We Need to Get Proof: Lucius wanted evidence of Cardinal Oldin Lasker being a Tartarus Worshipper instead of just believing Zephyr outright. Luckily, Zephyr was able to provide said evidence with the Potion of True Sight and the letters Cardinal Oldin Lasker exchanged with Mathias.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Was the main reason why Lucius wanted to hear Mathias's reason for betraying him instead of immediately killing Mathias.
  • White Magic: Has access to the Judgement attacking skill in addition to healing skills.
  • Wrong Assumption: After Zephyr saved him, Leona, and Arno from the Gatekeeper Georgios, they ended up believing that Zephyr and Ned are actually allies passionate in ridding heresy when that actually wasn't the case. However, they let Lucius believe that because they happened to share a common goal with him.
  • X-Ray Vision: The Potion of True Sight allows Lucius to see the Marked Bugs inside of Tartarus Worshippers and anyone who was forced to ingest a Marked Bug, like his uncle.

    Bishop Alfonso Giornetti

Bishop Alfonso Giornetti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alfonso.PNG

The bishop of the Third Parish of the Temple of Light and Lucius's uncle.

Tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Bishop Alfonso claimed to be feeling great and excellent after being brainwashed by Oldin, despite his expression saying otherwise.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: After being forced to ingest one of Oldin's Marked Bugs, Bishop Alfonso was forced to do his bidding. Thankfully, he got better after Zephyr and/or Ned killed the Queen Bug.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: The Giornetti family had been quite close to Cardinal Oldin Lasker. Cardinal Oldin Lasker repaid said closeness by forcing Bishop Alfonso to ingest a Marked Bug and taking control of him.
  • Proof Dare: After being brainwashed, Bishop Alfonso confronted Lucius as he was accusing Cardinal Oldin Lasker of heresy, admonishing him and demanding proof. Luckily, Lucius had said proof in the form of the letters Zephyr found and gave him as they were exploring the abandoned mansion the Tartarus Worshippers held their meetings in.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Bishop Alfonso geniunely thanked Zephyr and Ned for defending the Third Parish and removing the brainwashing done to him and the others who were also forced to ingest one of Oldin's Marked Bugs. In addition, Bishop Alfonso also showed concern after Zephyr announced that he and Ned would hunt Blue Dragon Artalis and Ice Dragon Merenia, two of the eight most difficult challenges in the world alongside the Tomb of the Fallen Princess and the Canyon of Oblivion.

    Claudia Giornetti

Claudia Giornetti

Tropes:

    Leona

Leona

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lenoa.PNG
Click here to see Leona after gearing up

Was the Captain of the Rearguard for the raid on the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. She specializes in long-ranged attacks and binding spells. After Zephyr saved her, Lucius, and Arno from the Gatekeeper Georgios, they ended up believing that Zephyr and Ned are actually allies passionate in ridding heresy, and become Zephyr's and Ned's allies.

Tropes:

  • Long-Range Fighter: Her spells are best cast from a long range, which makes her perfect for the rearguard.
  • Not So Above It All: Normally, Leona's expression does not change much...but she gleefully told Zephyr which item to get next from Eurydice's Treasure Room, excitedly revealed she has an appraisal skill, and was in awe after she received the Gem Spirits and the Obsidian Bracelet.
  • Oh, Crap!: After realizing that the Golden Knight's aim after starting to use the Marked Bug's power was not to kill Lucius, but to collapse a building to bury the brainwashed priests and Lucius's uncle in rubble.
  • Only Mostly Dead: Even after Mathias as a demon crushed her neck and made everyone believe she was dead, Leona was able to survive long enough for Lucius to heal her and bring her back to full health.
  • Power Crystal: The Gem Spirits are this. They float around Leona, slowing down and debuffing enemies.
  • The Reliable One: Leona was considered to be reliable to the point that Lucius entrusted her with the Stake of Faith for safekeeping and to decide when to use it. Too bad Zephyr had Ned steal it from her.
  • Supernormal Bindings: Is able to cast Chain of Light and Chain Prison, which allows her to bind her enemies.
  • White Magic: In addition to Chain of Light and Chain Prison, Leona is also able to cast other divine/light spells.
  • Wrong Assumption: After Zephyr saved her, Lucius, and Arno from the Gatekeeper Georgios, they ended up believing that Zephyr and Ned are actually allies passionate in ridding heresy when that actually wasn't the case. However, they let Leona believe that because they happened to share a common goal with her.

    Arno

Arno

Was the Head Healer for the raid on the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. He specializes in healing and other support magic. After Zephyr saved him, Lucius, and Leona from the Gatekeeper Georgios, they ended up believing that Zephyr and Ned are actually allies passionate in ridding heresy, and become Zephyr's and Ned's allies.

Tropes:

  • Healing Hands: Arno is a phenomenal healer as seen when he simultaneously completely healed over 40 people and completely removed their fatigue, all without breaking a sweat.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Downplayed, but Arno can still throw Skill Stones with astounding accuracy due to having been a handball athlete back in the academy.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: The Shield of Petrification serves as this. It allows him to block attacks and turn anyone who faces the shield into stone.
  • The Medic: Arno was appointed Head Healer for the raid on the Tomb of the Fallen Princess.
  • Oh, Crap!: After realizing that the Golden Knight's aim after starting to use the Marked Bug's power was not to kill Lucius, but to collapse a building to bury the brainwashed priests and Lucius's uncle in rubble.
  • Only Mostly Dead: Even after Mathias as a demon crushed his neck and made everyone believe he was dead, Arno was able to survive long enough for Lucius to heal him and bring him back to full health.
  • Status Buff: With Battle Light, Arno can momentarily boost the attack power, light attribute skills, mana, defense, and recovery of his allies by 120%.
  • Support Party Member: Other than throwing Skill Stones and using the Shield of Petrification, Arno does not really have any attacking skills. Instead, he focuses on support by healing and boosting stats with Battle Light.
  • Taken for Granite: Thanks to the Shield of Petrification, Arno can place a <Petrification> curse on people who face the shield, turning them into stone.
  • White Magic: Arno's healing and support skills rely on divine/light magic.
  • Wrong Assumption: After Zephyr saved him, Lucius, and Leona from the Gatekeeper Georgios, they ended up believing that Zephyr and Ned are actually allies passionate in ridding heresy when that actually wasn't the case. However, they let Arno believe that because they happened to share a common goal with him.

    Angelia

Angelia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angelia_8.PNG

A nun and priest in the Temple of Light. She works as an enchanter for the lab.

Tropes:

  • Magic Enhancement: Angelia is one of the best enchanters in the Temple of Light and agreed to enchant five items for Zephyr for only 3000 gold, which was considered to be quite cheap.
  • White Magic: Said magic that Angelia enchants items with is divine/light magic.

Tartarus Worshippers

Worshippers of The God of Demons Tartarus who want to summon him and bring an end to the world.

Tropes In General

  • Bioweapon Beast: The Shoggoths. They lie dormant in the form of an egg until they are awoken by the Ocarina of Hypnosis instrument. Shoggoths have an insatiable appetite, getting stronger as they absorb mana from the humans they devour. In addition, they are immune to physical attacks, only being damaged by elemental attacks and divine energy. Worst of all, they corrupt the minds of the humans they touch, causing their victims to go into a murderous frenzy.
  • Creepy Centipedes: The Tartarus Worshippers keep Marked Bugs/Branded Worms that look like centipedes in their stomachs with them popping out of any available opening—whether it be the mouth or a gaping wound—once their hosts die.
  • No-Sell: The executives of the Tartarus Worshippers provided the members among the raid party Suspicious Potions, which momentarily disable the Slave Marks.
  • Religion of Evil: Seeing as the Tartarus Worshippers are actively trying to summon The God of Demons Tartarus and are wanting to destroy Earth, they definitely are this.
  • Revealing Skill: Any demonic skill reveals that the caster is a Tartarus Worshipper because the user has to have a Marked Bug in order to use said skill. Before obtaining the Potion of True Sight/Potion of Scrutiny, this—in addition to receiving a confession—was the only way to identify Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Right Under Their Noses: The Tartarus Worshippers use the fact that the Priests of Light do not monitor those who have the Slave Mark on them to infiltrate the Temple of Light.
  • The Symbiote: What the Marked Bugs are. In exchange for living inside of the Tartarus Worshippers' stomachs, the Marked Bugs grant enhanced strength while both groups grow stronger the more the Marked Bugs are used. And since the Mark of Tartarus is on the Marked Bugs and not on the Tartarus Worshippers themselves, this allows them to also use The Goddess of Light Aria's powers at the same time. And by using the Stone of Revelation, the user turns into a demon by resonating with the Marked Bug.
  • The Worf Effect: Despite being touted as tough and an elite group of troops trained for completing missions by Zephyr, the Tartarus Worshippers among the raid party members were taken out by Mathias within only 30 seconds after they were forced to attack him.

    Ned Stryer

Ned Stryer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ned.PNG
Click here to see Ned in his disciple uniform
Click here to see Ned as a child
Click here to see Ned after gearing up

One of the official disciples of Jinryang of the East, the 9th-highest ranking Tartarus Worshipper. He worked under Mathias Grimmer, the 36th-highest ranking Tartarus Worshipper. Both infiltrated the Temple of Light, working as Inquisitors to hide their agenda. Upon learning the truth from Zephyr, Ned betrayed Mathias and the Tartarus Worshippers and allied with Zephyr instead.

Tropes:

  • Ancestral Weapon: Blood Tears is a powerful sword that Ned and his family possessed. It was an heirloom that was passed down from generation to generation after their ancestor got it by defeating demons in the desert. His father lost it in the Dungeon Bubble Break to Cardinal Oldin Lasker who passed it on to Jinryang of the East, Ned's master.
  • Assassination Attempt: Tried to kill Zephyr for using the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, which were supposed to be exclusive to Jinryang of the East and the official disciples. Ned only stopped trying to kill Zephyr after Zephyr convinced Ned that he was the secret Shadow Disciple with him using his knowledge of Blood Tears to seal the deal.
  • Badass Cape: In addition to looking cool, the Crow Cape allows Ned to teleport a short distance away after making a clone out of mana.
  • Battle Trophy: The Moon Sword after Cardinal Oldin Lasker and the Twin Knights were defeated. In addition, before Zephyr and Ned departed the Third Parish of the Temple of Light, Lucius gave the Sun Sword to Ned.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Ned genuinely thanked Zephyr after Zephyr told him the truth because Zephyr took revenge for Ned in their previous lives, and helped him in their current lives. It helped Ned realize that he was living his life wrong, and that what he wanted most was a family.
  • Best Served Cold: Twelve years after Cardinal Oldin Lasker had the Twin Knights murder Ned's father, Ned taunted the Golden Knight by showing him his little brother's—the Silver Knight's—sword after killing the Silver Knight and using it to fight him.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Ned made quite a show of saving Lucius's wife—Sister Claudia—from Cardinal Oldin Lasker. He was also quite flashy when he rushed at the fake Silver Knight and uppercutted him square in the jaw, allowing Claudia to save her and Lucius's son, Marius. In addition, Ned saved Queen Silvestia just before the demonified Crimson Moon Masha could attack her and dispatched the demon with several skillful slashes from the Sword of Mirage before finishing off with a powerful <Thunderbolt>.
  • Blood from the Mouth: After the Golden Knight impaled him in the gut. Luckily, Ned survived and managed to kill the Golden Knight and later got completely healed.
  • Broken Pedestal: After finding out that Jinryang of the East betrayed him, Ned was SHATTERED.
  • Brutal Honesty: Told Zephyr not to tell Altair about their relationship in their previous lives because if Zephyr were to do so, she would think of him as either a lunatic or a pervert. Seeing as Altair still did not gain full access to the <Communion> skill due to it being an unexpectedly advanced skill with her only reaching Level 3 after absorbing the Crystal of Magic, Ned made the right call.
  • Death Glare: Gave one to Lucius when Lucius first presented himself to the raid party for the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. Also gave one to Zephyr and pointed the Sword of Mirage at him while confronting him about the truth.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Ned only ever held fond memories of his father, Leonard Stryer. After his father was killed by Cardinal Oldin Lasker and the Twin Knights, one of the only reasons Ned had for living was to avenge his father with the other being to retrieve Blood Tears.
  • Defector from Decadence: Ned betrayed the Tartarus Worshippers after learning that the leader and six of the twelve apostles were also high-ranking priests in the Temple of Light with Cardinal Oldin Lasker, the one who tricked his father and who had the Twin Knights kill his father, being one of said twelve apostles.
  • Energy Weapon: The Sword of Mirage is this. The Sword of Mirage can make a blade out of mana whose size and form changes depending on the user’s mana. Ned made the blade really long when ambushing Oldin and the Golden Knight, and made it into a whip to disarm Ophelia.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Ned felt extremely distraught by Jinryang of the East betraying him and was so distraught, he easily fell for an illusion that the Fallen Princess Eurydice casted on him. In addition, in their previous lives, Jingang—whom he considered to be a brother—was the one who found Ned while he was on the run with the Dragon Heart, beat Ned up, stole it from Ned, and left Ned to die.
  • Eye Take: Had a hilarious one after witnessing one of Altair's potential suitors crash onto the ground right next to him. Later on, Ned had a much more serious one after witnessing Zephyr use a combination of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts and the Dragon Heart to create a dragon-shaped beam to counter Dariel the Divine Archer's <Crimson Meteor> skill, due to his surprise that there was a stage in the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts that used the power of a dragon and not just resembled a dragon.
  • Face Framed in Shadow: When Zephyr returned from the party at Lindell Castle, Ned was sitting down in an intimidating pose with his face framed in shadow and the Sword of Mirage in hand. Zephyr took a MASSIVE step back reflexively due to instances of Ned beating Zephyr senselessly in their previous lives whenever he was in a bad mood.
  • Family of Choice: After Jinryang of the East took Ned in, Ned considered him to be like a father and his son, Jingang, to be like a brother. That was why Jinryang of the East's betrayal hurt so much. However, after going through so much with Zephyr, he considered Zephyr to be a brother as well and after Zephyr told Ned the truth, Ned realized that what he wanted most was not revenge, but a family.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Ned was quite polite to Anna Primrose/White Rose when first meeting Zephyr while assessing if Zephyr was a threat. Ned was also polite to Zephyr when offering to work in the same group as him in the Tartarus Worshippers' mission to steal the Dragon Heart and take out Lucius, while keeping an eye on Zephyr. However, after siding with Zephyr, the "evil" part has been dropped.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Zephyr. They faced so many life-and-death moments together, Ned considered Zephyr to be a brother. That was why he wanted the truth; he wanted to believe that their camaraderie was real.
  • Flash Step: Thanks to his mastery of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, Ned can move extremely quickly.
  • Freudian Excuse: Ned's immense desire for revenge stems from the Temple of Light ruining his family and Ned watching as his father was executed right in front of him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After learning the truth from Zephyr and Mathias confirming that Cardinal Oldin Lasker was—in fact—also a Tartarus Worshipper, Ned betrayed the Tartarus Worshippers and sided with Zephyr instead.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: While facing Hondur, the Master of the Canyon of Oblivion in their previous lives, Ned threw Zephyr out of the way and blew himself up with the final secret art of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts to save Zephyr. Zephyr regretted not being strong enough.
  • Hidden Agenda Hero: Ned may now be allied with Zephyr and Lucius, but he only does so because they can help him get revenge on the Tartarus Worshippers for deceiving him. However, after Zephyr told Ned the truth about the original timeline, this is no longer the case.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: Ned made sure to avert his eyes while he was sprawled out on the ground and Ophelia was standing over him after being forced to endure Elise's <Angel's Embrace> skill to avoid looking at wrong places.
  • I Owe You My Life: Zephyr revealing the truth that the Tartarus Worshippers were just using him and were going to dispose of him and actually allowing Ned to have his revenge on Cardinal Oldin Lasker and the Twin Knights earned Zephyr his eternal loyalty with him wanting to repay his debt no matter whom he has to face. And after Zephyr told Ned the truth about the original timeline, Ned expressed immense gratitude and told Zephyr that he wouldn't let Zephyr shoulder the burden all alone.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: What Ned did to Oldin to extract information from him.
  • Kick the Son of a Bitch: Ned stabbed Cardinal Oldin Lasker in the back as he was about to feed Claudia a Princess Bug/Princess Worm—which has powerful brainwashing abilities—before nearly slashing him in half.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Thanks to Ned's immense strength and the extreme speed obtained from his mastery of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, he can both hit hard and hit fast.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: While Zephyr was getting his <Dragonification> upgraded, Ned used a gentle stream of electricity to regulate Zephyr's breathing.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Ned has shoulder-length red hair, and is quite pretty.
  • Lying to the Perp: Still in doubt if Zephyr had told him the truth, Ned approached Mathias and pretended to know who would be the Dragon Heart carrier, saying that the Temple of Light would be suspicious if the carrier stood out too much, proposing that he take it to the leader instead. This led Mathias to believe that Ned knew Cardinal Oldin Lasker would be the carrier and says that Oldin prepared the safe method, confirming that everything Zephyr said was true. After that, Ned made his decision and to ally himself with Zephyr and abandoned the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Luminescent Blush: Ned had one of these after Zephyr mocked him for falling under the Fallen Princess Eurydice's spell and had to save him from stepping on a trap circle.
  • The Master: Ned was the one who taught Zephyr the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts in their previous lives.
  • Master Swordsman: Ned is very skillful with swords and currently has three in his possession: the Sword of Mirage, the Sun Sword, and the Moon Sword.
  • Misdirected Outburst: In their previous lives, Ned would beat Zephyr senselessly whenever he was in a bad mood. This happened so often that even in their current lives, Zephyr reflexively took a huge step back when Ned was confronting Zephyr about the truth even though Zephyr was stronger than Ned by then.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: For people he believes are a threat, Ned will try to kill them. That was why he tried to kill Zephyr.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Was shown to be quite muscular, and is quite strong.
  • No More Lies: After Ophelia revealed who the real Shadow Disciple was, Ned demanded that Zephyr tell him the truth, even if it is the smallest thing, because he considered Zephyr to be a brother and wanted their camaraderie to be real. Zephyr obliged, except he told Ned everything.
  • Posthumous Sibling: Ned had an older sister who died at sea along with their mother due to a typhoon. Ned speculated that if she had been alive, she would have become a wife and mother like Sister Claudia. Except not really. Turns out his sister survived and became the real Shadow Disciple to Jinryang of the East. Unfortunately, she does not remember him due to the shipwreck causing her to have amnesia.
  • The Reliable One: Zephyr sees Ned as such, which was one of the reasons why Zephyr wanted to recruit Ned in the first place. That, and to pay back his debt to Ned for helping him become humanity's strongest in their previous lives.
  • Resting Recovery: Eurydice had Ned rest for three days after giving him some of her mana and forcing him to throw up his Marked Bug, which remained a larva due to him never using its power.
  • Revenge: One of Ned's main motivations. At first, he wanted to get revenge on the Temple of Light for cheating his family during the Dungeon Bubble Break and for Cardinal Oldin Lasker having his father killed. After finding out that Cardinal Oldin Lasker—in addition to six other high-ranking priests in the Temple of Light—was also a Tartarus Worshipper and in fact was one of the highest-ranking members and that his master, Jinryang of the East, had lied to him about helping him get revenge on the Temple of Light, Ned now wants revenge on the Tartarus Worshippers for using him. In fact, in their previous lives, Ned became so blinded by his desire for revenge, he trusted the wrong person and destroyed himself. Hopefully, with Zephyr on his side, Ned will actually be able to realize his revenge this time around.
  • Riches to Rags: Ned and his father had once been quite well-off, judging by their large manor and fancy clothes. After the Dungeon Bubble Break, Cardinal Oldin Lasker seized the manor and Blood Tears due to taking the "Baron Stryer" title as collateral.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: What Ned did to Oldin after Zephyr beat him to within an inch of his life with Ned inflicting all the pain and extracting all the information desired. After doing so, Ned admitted to feeling refreshed.
  • Rock–Paper–Scissors: Lost to Zephyr who used "scissors" while Ned used "paper". Zephyr, as the winner, was to go to the party at Lindell Castle to gather intel while Ned had to find and take out Tartarus Worshippers residing there. However, Ned considers this a win because he hates social gatherings.
  • Secret-Keeper: Of the fact that Zephyr came from the future. Ned and Zephyr agreed that mass panic could ensue if more people knew, and that information was the one true advantage that they had.
  • Self-Duplication: The Crow Cape allows Ned to make multiple copies of himself, and teleport elsewhere after doing so. This came in really handy against his fight with the Golden Knight.
  • Shipper on Deck: Is this to Zephyr and Altair, after learning that Altair was Zephyr's lover in their previous lives. When Altair went after Zephyr the night before the Blue Dragon Raid, Ned held Ophelia back so the two could be left alone together, and wished Zephyr good luck.
  • Shock and Awe: Thanks to his mastery of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, Ned gained the ability to use electricity through explosive acceleration for both offense and defense. He was the one who taught these techniques to Zephyr.
  • Spanner in the Works: Thanks to Ned teaching Zephyr the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts in their previous lives, Zephyr became the strongest of all of humanity and piqued the interest of the gods with them offering to reincarnate Zephyr ten years into the past for a chance to change the future.
  • So Crazy, It Must Be True: The reason why Ned believed Zephyr about him returning to the past; because that was the only way him having the Sword of Light despite not being a priest and him knowing too much made sense.
  • Start of Darkness: Watching Cardinal Oldin Lasker have the Twin Knights execute his father.
  • Stealth Clothes: Thanks to the pair of Mist Bracelets that Zephyr gave him after entering Eurydice's Treasure Room, Ned cannot be detected by most detection skills with Legendary-Grade detection skills only being able to vaguely detect him. Before going to join Zephyr in fighting Oldin, Ned gave the Mist Bracelets to Claudia so she and Marius can wear them and remain undetected in the cave they chose to hide in and after getting them back, he gave one of them to Zephyr before they departed the Third Parish of the Temple of Light before getting it back after arriving at Lindell Castle.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Ned and his sister share a strong resemblance, which was why Ophelia was so suspicious of him due to his sister being the real Shadow Disciple.
  • Student–Master Team: After Ned sided with Zephyr, he and Zephyr became this.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: Seeing as how Zephyr became the strongest of all of humanity in his previous life, he definitely did this to Ned.
  • Teleport Cloak: Thanks to the Crow Cape, Ned can teleport shortly after making a clone of himself. This allows him to fool people by making them think they got him when they actually got the clone, with him teleporting behind them before retaliating. This is what he did to the Golden Knight.
  • Training from Hell: Ned subjected the Danakil army soldiers and the elf soldiers to this for two weeks in preparation for the Blue Dragon Raid. The training was so intense, a Danakil army soldier complained that the two weeks felt like two months.
  • True Companions: Ned considers Zephyr as such after Zephyr helped Ned get revenge, as seen when he was ready to sacrifice himself to buy time for Zephyr to get away from Polaris Albert Cayenne, the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers. Zephyr was a little moved.
  • Turncoat: After letting Lucius, Leona, and Arno believe that he and Zephyr were actually affiliated with the Temple of Light and infiltrated the Tartarus Worshippers to destroy the organization from within, Ned decided to actually ally himself with Lucius so he can use Lucius's power, status, assets, and connections to get revenge on the Tartarus Worshippers for deceiving him. Before learning the truth from Zephyr, Ned considered Lucius and the Temple of Light as a whole to be mortal enemies.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Ned used to be a sweet boy who wanted to make his father proud. Watching his father being murdered right in front of him and losing everything changed that pretty quickly, though.
  • X-Ray Vision: The Potion of True Sight allows Ned to see the Marked Bugs inside of Tartarus Worshippers and anyone who was forced to ingest a Marked Bug. He used it to take out Tartarus Worshippers residing within Lindell Castle while Zephyr was at the party gathering intel.
  • You Are Not Alone: After finding out the truth from Zephyr, Ned told Zephyr that he won't let Zephyr shoulder all the burden on his own, and that they will walk together in this life.

    Jinryang of the East

Jinryang of the East

Click here to see him without his mask on

The Master of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts who came from the East. Jinryang of the East crossed the Saraha Desert, a demon-controlled land inaccessible to humans, to Aslan and became the 9th-highest ranking Tartarus Worshipper. He took two official disciples: his own son Jingang, and Ned Stryer.

Tropes:

  • Awful Truth: That Jinryang of the East never intended to help Ned get his revenge in the first place and was going to dispose of him. Learning this shattered Ned's psyche.
  • The Chessmaster: Plotted with Oldin to destroy the Stryer family so he could obtain both Ned and his older sister due to them both having martial bodies, which makes learning and mastering martial arts easy for them.
  • Extra Eyes: Has a third yellow eye on his forehead that opens sideways.
  • The Master: Jinryang of the East is the Master of the Dragon King-Style Martial arts and used them to rise to a high position among the Tartarus Worshippers, being the 9th-highest ranking member.
  • The Only One I Trust: Jinryang of the East told Ned that Ned was the only one he trusted to retrieve the Dragon Heart. Except not really.
  • Parental Substitute: After Jinryang of the East took Ned in, Ned considered him to be like a father. That was why Jinryang of the East's betrayal hurt so much.
  • Shock and Awe: As the Master of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, Jinryang of the East has the ability to use electricity through explosive acceleration for both offense and defense.
  • Villainous Friendship: Seemed to have one with Oldin, with Oldin pouring wine for Jinryang of the East and them doing a toast as they discussed the demonified Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel fighting Blue Dragon Artalis.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: The reason why Jinryang of the East had Ned infiltrate the Temple of Light and retrieve the Dragon Heart; Ned was no longer useful to him. Which was why he allowed Oldin to have Ned killed after he comes back with the Dragon Heart.

    The Real Shadow Disciple

The Real Shadow Disciple

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neds_sister.PNG
Click here to see her as a child

The Real Shadow Disciple and Ned's long-lost older sister. She was thought dead by Ned after a typhoon hit the ship she and their mother were on, but actually survived and was taken in by Jinryang of the East and was also taught the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts. She rose to become one of the twelve apostles of the Tartarus Worshippers.

Tropes:

  • Easy Sex Change: The Real Shadow Disciple can easily change her gender. Combined with her <Configuration> skill, this makes it even harder to know who she actually is.
  • Lady of War: The Real Shadow Disciple is very cunning and is a force to be reckoned with.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Doesn't remember Ned, seeing as she referred to him as "Master's Disciple" instead of "Ned" or "little brother", due to being in a shipwreck thirteen years prior to the start of the story.
  • Master of Disguise: The Real Shadow Disciple's <Transfiguration> skill is so good, she can fool people she had just been speaking to and disappear from their memory. Too bad it doesn't work against Ophelia, who is not affected by any stealth skills.
  • Meaningful Name: "Smiling Woman", due to easily being able to blend in with her advanced stealth skills.
  • Samus Is a Girl: The Real Shadow Disciple is a woman and not a man.
  • Shock and Awe: Thanks to her mastery of the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts, the Real Shadow Disciple gained the ability to use electricity through explosive acceleration for both offense and defense.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Ned and his sister share a strong resemblance, which was why Ophelia was so suspicious of him due to his sister being the real Shadow Disciple.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Has no respect for Elfriede, despite her being the head of the twelve apostles and the Vice Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She used to be a sweet girl who doted on her little brother Ned, promising to bring him a present after coming back from the voyage she and their mother were going on. Currently, she seems to be a cold and calculating woman hellbent on fulfilling her mission. However, this is due to her losing her memories, and she wants to regain them and meet her lost family.

    Elfriede

Elfriede

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elfriede.PNG

The Vice Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers and the 2nd-highest ranking member. Elfriede is the head of the twelve apostles, who are all in charge of carrying out The Apocalypse Plan.

Tropes:

  • The Dragon: To Polaris, the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • The Immune: Seems to be immune to all poisons, seeing as she tasted the Belial smeared on the side of Oldin's carriage without anything happening to her, despite Oldin doubling over in immense pain seconds after just getting a little onto his fingertips.
  • Plague Doctor: Elfriede's mask is based off of a plague doctor's.
  • Whip It Good: Elfriede's main weapon.
  • Wrong Assumption: Assumed that Jinryang of the East, Lucius, and the "Tarantula" who recently joined the Tartarus Worshippers were in cahoots after examining the area near Oldin's carriage in addition to where the Silver Knight last was at. She also assumed that the Third Parish of the Temple of Light had the Dragon Heart due to it being protected by a curtain skill with entry and exit being restricted, in addition to assuming the Real Shadow Disciple was involved due to her happening to be nearby.

Click here to see Polaris with his armor and mask on
Click here to see Oldin's head while Polaris was possessing it
Click here to see Polaris in his priest vestments

The Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers and the highest ranking member. Polaris is also the eldest prince of the Kingdom of Cayenne and Altair's eldest brother in addition to being the youngest cardinal in the Temple of Light.

Tropes:

  • The Archmage: Seeing as Polaris completely ignored the skill usage restriction of Memera's Birdcage and destroyed it, he would also have to be an archmage like Eurydice. This makes sense, due to him also being Eurydice's descendant. He also proved his capabilities by instantaneously stopping Ned and Lucius before Ned could activate the Crow Cape and Lucius could activate Shard of Glory, significantly weakening them.
  • "Ass" in Ambassador: Purposefully worsened relations with the elves, to the point they initially didn’t trust Altair due to her being Polaris’s sister.
  • The Bet: Agreed to Zephyr's coin toss with the loser telling one thing the winner wants to hear, with him choosing "tails". Polaris wanted to know why Zephyr was chosen by The Goddess of Light despite not being a Holy One. However, the coin ended up being sliced in half with each half turned to each side, effectively making the bet a draw.
  • Blue Blood: After coming of age, Polaris was given the title of Grand Duke of Lindell due to being next in line to the throne. However, he gave up his right of succession to become a Priest of Light and returned the Grand Duke of Lindell title to the nation.
  • Connected All Along: Polaris is the descendant of Eurydice and Georgios, two of The Twelve Heroes who fought against the demons a thousand years ago and the Fallen Princess and the Gatekeeper of the Tomb of the Fallen Princess, respectively. After Zephyr purified Eurydice, she transplanted the Dragon Heart into him and after Zephyr defeated and purified Georgios, he took Georgios's sword Gram and the dragon slayer's armor. Polaris is also the eldest brother of Altair Justina Cayenne, Zephyr's lover from their previous lives, in addition to being the cousin of Lucius Giornetti, the current Holy One of Light/Saint of Light.
  • Curse: Polaris is very adept at casting curses, as seen with his <Ring of Curses> skill simultaneously casting Curse of Disease, Curse of Pain, and Curse of Decomposition on Ned, Lucius, and Bishop Alfonso, forcing Zephyr to use the Sword of Light and <Yehi Or (Let There Be Light)> to break the curses.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite him being the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers, Polaris still seemed to genuinely love his sister Altair dearly.
  • The Hedonist: In the original timeline, Polaris spent years enjoying his double life, which was why Zephyr was originally not too concerned with eliminating Oldin and the Twin Knights in the current timeline. Too bad Zephyr did not count for curiosity winning out.
  • Heroic Lineage: Is descended from The Grand Sorceress Princess Eurydice and The Knight Georgios, two of The Twelve Heroes. Too bad he is actively working against them as the current Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Living Lie Detector: Polaris has a mana detection skill that allows him to discern if someone is lying or not. That was how he knew that Zephyr really knew his identity.
  • The Mentor: Seemed to act like one to Cardinal Oldin Lasker, giving him advice on how to best use his Marked Bug to grow stronger.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Normally, a coin toss should be as simple as flipping a coin and calling a side. However, Polaris ended up fiercely fighting Zephyr as Zephyr tried to change the side the coin landed on.
  • No-Sell: Thanks to the <Ancient Dragon's Shadow> skill, Polaris greatly reduces the stats of whomever he catches while also preventing the targets from using mana or skills. Because of this, Ned could not use the Crow Cape and Lucius could not use Shard of Glory while under his grasp.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Despite being immensely powerful and being able to wipe out countless people without breaking a sweat, Polaris decided to completely leave The Apocalypse Plan to the twelve apostles and didn't even care that Oldin was eliminated as long as a replacement could be found and that The Apocalypse Plan would still be brought to fruition. For now, at least...
  • Playing Both Sides: Is both the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers and the youngest cardinal in the Temple of Light.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Has red eyes, and is a terrifying enemy.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Polaris also inherited his ancestor Eurydice's magic, which was part of the reason why he proved to be such a formidable foe to Zephyr, Ned, and Lucius.

    Mathias Grimmer

Mathias Grimmer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mathias.PNG
Click here to see his demon form

Senior Inquisitor at the Temple of Light and long-time friend of Lucius Giornetti. Mathias was also the 36th-highest ranking Tartarus Worshipper and secretly resented Lucius, wanting to take him down.

Tropes:

  • The Assimilator: Used the <Power Drain>/<Seizure> skill to rip out the Marked Bugs from the Tartarus Worshippers who disguised themselves as priests and absorb their power.
  • Battle-Halting Duel: Tried to invoke this on Lucius, promising to tell Lucius everything he wanted to know while in actuality using it to buy time as he secretly signaled for the Tartarus Worshippers who posed as slaves to drink their Suspicious Potions and attack Lucius. Too bad Lucius didn't fall for it.
  • Betrayal Insurance: Mathias kept all the letters Cardinal Oldin Lasker sent him instead of burning them like he was supposed to just in case Cardinal Oldin Lasker would betray him. Zephyr would later find these letters and give them to Lucius so he could use them as evidence of Cardinal Oldin Lasker's heresy.
  • Childhood Friends: With Lucius Giornetti. They were friends since they entered the academy at the age of 12, and have been friends for twenty years. At least Lucius thought.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Was on the receiving end of one by Lucius before handing one to Lucius after becoming a demon, until Lucius used Shard of Glory.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Mathias was betrayed by Zephyr and Ned after Zephyr activated the device that rearranges the Tomb of the Fallen Princess's layout. Mathias also did this to Lucius after Lucius realized he was a Tartarus Worshipper.
  • Demon of Human Origin: By using the Stone of Revelation, Mathias permanently changed from a human to a demon.
  • False Friend: In reality, Mathias resented Lucius during the entire duration of their friendship because Lucius robbed him of his potential to be a Holy One.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Mathias became extremely jealous of Lucius after The Goddess of Light Aria gave Lucius her stigmata at the age of 7 without having to do anything, robbing him of his chance to get it.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: After Lucius activated Shard of Glory, he tore numerous holes into Mathias, vaporizing most of Mathias's body.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Was quite fond of taunting Lucius after becoming a demon and turning the tables against Lucius.
  • The Inquisitor General: As a Senior Inquisitor in the Temple of Light, Mathias qualified as this. However, he actually used his position to help his fellow Tartarus Worshippers infiltrate the Temple of Light.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Mathias may have been awful for betraying Lucius by becoming a Tartarus Worshipper and by becoming a demon, but Mathias made a good point when he pointed out that the Temple of Light was also evil for profiteering from the Dungeon Bubble Break and leading many of the people who were scammed to commit suicide.
  • No Body Left Behind: When Mathias died in demon form, instead of leaving a corpse, his body disintegrated into nothingness.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Mathias's demon form seems to be of a vaguely Abrahamic nature with horns, hooves, and a tail.
  • Playing Both Sides: Mathias's goal was to rise in the ranks in both the Temple of Light and with the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Screw Destiny: Mathias did not want to follow the fate the gods determined for him. Which was why he became a Tartarus Worshipper in the first place and had no qualms with becoming a demon upon realizing he could not fight his fate as a human.
  • Status-Buff Dispel: As a demon, the dark energy that surrounds him negates all status buffs such as Battle Light.
  • White Magic: As a priest in the Temple of Light, Mathias can use divine/light magic. And as a Tartarus Worshipper with a Marked Bug in his stomach, he can also use dark magic.
  • The Worf Effect: Mathias's swift defeat at the hands of Lucius while still a human highlighted the difference between a Holy One's and a normal person's powers, and his second defeat after becoming a demon at the hands of Lucius upon Lucius activating Shard of Glory demonstrated the power of that skill.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Mathias had absolutely no problems with killing the Tartarus Worshippers who posed as slaves after they were forced to attack him. In addition, after becoming a demon, instead of letting the Tartarus Worshippers who disguised themselves as priests help him, Mathias instead harvested their Marked Bugs, killing them in the process.

    Cardinal Oldin Lasker

Cardinal Oldin Lasker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oldin.PNG
Click here to see his demon form

A cardinal in the Temple of Light and bishop of the Fourth Parish, with several responsibilities both there and in the Central Parish. Cardinal Oldin Lasker is also one of the twelve apostles of the Tartarus Worshippers and is the 11th-highest ranking member.

Tropes:

  • Acid Attack: In his demon form, Oldin can use his insects' digestive fluids to attack enemies.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After Zephyr first attacked him, Oldin begged for his life, offering to pay Zephyr increasing sums of money and to grant favors. However, it was all a ruse to buy time for the Silver Knight Pollux to come. Too bad it didn't work out.
  • Arch-Enemy: Is this to Ned Stryer.
  • Asshole Victim: Let's be honest...Oldin deserved every bit of the torture and humiliation Zephyr and Ned inflicted on him.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Oldin has a huge Queen Bug/Queen Worm inside of him, and his demon form is basically a huge amalgamated mass of worms.
  • Blue Blood: The Lasker family carries the title of Marquess, making its members nobility who carry tremendous influence.
  • Body Horror: What Oldin's demon form is. However, Oldin also displays this trope in his human form, as seen when after Sister Claudia snatched his arm and after first being poisoned with Belial.
  • Cassandra Truth: That Zephyr was deceiving Ned. Ned believed that Oldin was lying to him until Ophelia revealed who the real Shadow Disciple was. Oldin was right, but not for the right reasons.
  • The Chessmaster: Oldin was the one who manipulated the succession of the Hugo/Vigo family line so he could get the Twin Knights to become his subordinates and gain their complete trust by making it seem like he was on their side.
  • Choosing Neutrality: Cardinal Oldin Lasker purposefully chose to remain neutral in the battle between the various factions within the Temple of Light so he would have no enemies. Said neutrality makes him so valuable, the other cardinals at the Temple of Light would protect him even if he was the leader of the Tartarus Worshippers and not just one of the twelve apostles, all to get his neutral vote for the upcoming papal election.
  • Decapitation Presentation: What Zephyr did to Oldin's head while presenting it to Bishop Alfonso and Lucius after encasing it in Memera's Birdcage, which makes skill usage impossible for those trapped within and preserves the state they were in when put inside.
  • Demon of Human Origin: By using the Stone of Revelation five years prior to the start of the story, Oldin permanently changed from a human to a demon. However, thanks to his <Imitation>/<Mimicry> skill, Oldin can still take on a human form.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Oldin had absolutely no problems with tricking Ned's father, Leonard Stryer, into investing in dungeon-related financial products even as they were becoming worthless, causing Leonard to lose everything once the Dungeon Bubble Break happened.
  • False Friend: Cardinal Oldin Lasker used his closeness with Leonard to convince him to offer up his baron title and manor as collateral. When Leonard flew out in a rage for being deceived, Oldin had the Twin Knights execute him in front of his own son without a second thought, even mocking Leonard in his final moments.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Let's see...being brutally tortured, being forced to confess everything he knew about the Tartarus Worshippers during said brutal torture, being Ned's punching bag, being beheaded, having his severed head kept alive in Memera's Birdcage, having said severed head being presented to his enemies, having said severed head being forcibly taken over by the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers before finally being allowed to die after the possession was over...yeah, outright death would have been a MUCH kinder fate.
  • Healing Factor: Thanks to his powerful regeneration abilities, Oldin can heal from almost any wound including nearly being cut in half, being cut into pieces, and being struck by lightning. In fact, due to how quickly and often he can regenerate, he became known as "Immortal Oldin". Too bad Zephyr uses this against him while testing the power of the Dragon Heart on him and gathering data about demons.
  • Hostage Situation: Oldin held Lucius's wife Sister Claudia and son Marius hostage to stop him from attacking Oldin and to convince him to ingest a Princess Bug.
  • I Have Your Wife: After taking Lucius's wife and son hostage, Oldin displayed Claudia right in front of Lucius and held a knife to her neck. He was also about to shove a Princess Bug down her throat only for Ned to stab Oldin in the back with Ned lacerating him and saving Claudia.
  • I Shall Taunt You: In Leonard Stryer's final moments, Oldin told Leonard that he would have had Ned executed as well had Leonard's sword touched him.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Genuinely believed that Ned should have been grateful to him for sending Ned to Jinryang of the East and paying for Ned to be raised while other children starved, became slaves, or were eaten. That he was Ned's savior. Forgetting the fact that he was the one who had stolen everything from Ned's family and had Ned's father murdered in the first place. Ned rightfully tortured Oldin further upon hearing this.
  • Loophole Abuse: Although Leonard never offered up Blood Tears as collateral, Oldin was able to take it anyways since Blood Tears belonged to the "Baron Stryer" family, and Oldin convinced Leonard to give up the "Baron Stryer" title.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Unlike Mathias's demon form, which was of a vaguely Abrahamic nature, Oldin's demon form more resembles an Eldritch Abomination.
  • Out-Gambitted: Oldin might have thought he had planned for every possible situation regarding the Dragon Heart, but he did not plan—and could not have planned—for one: the existence of Zephyr.
  • Playing Both Sides: Oldin holds high positions in both the Temple of Light and with the Tartarus Worshippers, being a cardinal and the bishop of the Fourth Parish while also being one of the twelve apostles and the 11th-highest ranking Tartarus Worshipper.
  • Psychic Link: Thanks to the <Queen's Message> skill, as a holder of a Queen Bug/Queen Worm, Oldin can transmit his voice and location to the holders of the Princess Bugs/Princess Worms, like the Golden Knight and the Silver Knight.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: Oldin uses the larvae of his Queen Bug to control people by forcing them to ingest the larvae. However, after Zephyr and/or Ned killed the Queen Bug, the brainwashing was completely undone.
  • Sadistic Choice: Tried to invoke one on Lucius by making him choose who would ingest the Princess Bug: his wife, his son, or he himself. Naturally, Lucius chose himself, but Oldin was about to feed it to his wife anyways...until Ned intervened.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After losing the hostages, Oldin fled from Lucius. Later on, after being overwhelmed by Zephyr's <Dragonification>, Oldin in his demon form tried to fly away only to be caught.
  • Spell My Name with an S: Depending on the translation, his name may be spelled as either "Oldin" or "Aldean".
  • Too Important to Walk: The reason why Oldin usually leaves most of the fighting to the Twin Knights? Because he doesn't want to show anyone his demon form.
  • Unwitting Test Subject: Instead of killing Oldin immediately after overpowering him using <Dragonification>, Zephyr decided to continuously hack him into pieces to learn more about demons.
  • Villain Respect: To Zephyr for withstanding his onslaught...until Zephyr revealed he was only using 1% of the Dragon Heart's power and proceeded to use the <Dragonification> skill.
  • Villainous Friendship: Seemed to have one with Jinryang of the East, with Oldin pouring wine for Jinryang of the East and them doing a toast as they discussed the demonified Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel fighting Blue Dragon Artalis. Which was probably why Oldin was so enraged at the mere thought of Jinryang of the East potentially betraying him.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: Thanks to the <Imitation> skill, Oldin can easily change between human and demon forms. He can also use said skill to change parts of his body into weapons and to harden his skin.
  • Wrong Assumption: Thanks to Oldin not knowing about Zephyr, Oldin concluded that the only reason his numerous plans failed was because Jinryang of the East lied to and betrayed him.
  • You Killed My Father: One of the main reasons for Ned's immense hatred against Oldin and the Twin Knights. Which is why Zephyr wanted to make sure Ned had the perfect revenge.

    The Golden Knight

The Golden Knight

Click here to see him without his armor

The Golden/Gold Knight Castor Hugo/Castor Vigo is one of the ten strongest people in Aslan and is the older of the Twin Knights. He is the 20th-highest ranking Tartarus Worshipper and, along with his little brother, serve Cardinal Oldin Lasker.

Tropes:

  • Arch-Enemy: Is this to Ned Stryer.
  • Badass Cape: Donned one with his armor. After recovering from being sliced in half by Ned, The Golden Knight used his tattered cape as a makeshift loincloth.
  • Blinded by Rage: The Golden Knight was so furious upon realizing that Ned knew the secret to the Twin Knights' powers, he stopped listening to Oldin's cries through the <Queen's Message> skill.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: The Golden Knight didn't even remember Ned or killing Ned's father due to having killed hundreds of other people over the years. To say Ned was pissed would be a MASSIVE understatement.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The Golden Knight cared deeply for his little brother the Silver Knight to the point he lost it when Ned showed him the Moon Sword, which the Silver Knight considered as precious as his life.
  • Healing Factor: Thanks to his powerful regeneration abilities, the Golden Knight can heal from almost any wound including his top half being blown off and being vertically cut in half. However, due to having a limited supply of bugs, the Golden Knight's regenerative abilities can only be used a certain amount of times before Oldin has to restore the supply of bugs.
  • Iconic Item: The Sun Sword.
  • Karmic Death: Killed Ned's father, and was killed by Ned.
  • Sensor Character: The Golden Knight has a powerful detection skill that allows him to monitor a wide area. Too bad Ned completely slipped past it using his Mist Bracelets.
  • Spell My Name with an S: Depending on the translation, his last name may be spelled as either "Hugo" or "Vigo".
  • Twin Telepathy: The secret to the Twin Knights' power. Not only are their thoughts synchronized, but their mana and movements are too, allowing them to cover each other's openings and enact a ceaseless and brutal barrage on foes through their <Eclipse> skill. In fact, the Sun Sword and the Moon Sword are designed to facilitate such synchronicity. However, Ned used this against the Golden Knight by using Floating Cloud and the Moon Sword to synchronize with the Golden Knight's mana through electricity, effectively recreating <Eclipse>.
  • Undying Loyalty: After Oldin gave new meaning to his and his brother's lives, the Golden Knight devoted himself completely to Oldin.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After seeing Ned wield the Moon Sword, he decided to kill Ned instead of immediately going to save Oldin.
  • Wrong Assumption: After realizing Ned knew the secret of <Eclipse>, the Golden Knight assumed that Ned had inflicted such horrendous atrocities to the Silver Knight, that his faithful little brother would leak the secret. Of course, the Golden Knight had no way of knowing that Zephyr was the one who told Ned the secret, not the Silver Knight.
  • You Killed My Father: One of the main reasons for Ned's immense hatred against Oldin and the Twin Knights. Which is why Zephyr wanted to make sure Ned had the perfect revenge.

    The Silver Knight

The Silver Knight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_silver_knight.PNG

The Silver Knight Pollux Hugo/Pollux Vigo is one of the ten strongest people in Aslan and is the younger of the Twin Knights. He, along with his older brother, serve Cardinal Oldin Lasker.

Tropes:

  • Arch-Enemy: Is this to Ned Stryer.
  • Badass Cape: Donned one with his armor.
  • Doppelgänger: The Silver Knight seen when Lucius confronted Cardinal Oldin Lasker was not the real Silver Knight, but a weak fake who died to a single poisoned needle to the cheek. Meanwhile, the real Silver Knight was with several other Tartarus Worshippers at the meeting place where Ned was supposed to hand over the Dragon Heart.
  • Iconic Item: The Moon Sword.
  • Karmic Death: Killed Ned's father, and was killed by Zephyr, Ned, and Lucius.
  • Killed Offscreen: Twelve hours before Lucius confronted Cardinal Oldin Lasker, the Silver Knight was shown to have been brutally killed by Zephyr, Ned, and Lucius.
  • Off with His Head!: Was shown to have been beheaded in additon to having his limbs cut off and strewn about.
  • Undying Loyalty: After Oldin gave new meaning to his and his brother's lives, the Silver Knight devoted himself completely to Oldin.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Because the Silver Knight was killed before Lucius confronted Cardinal Oldin Lasker, not much is known about the Silver Knight himself other than he is the little brother of the Golden Knight and although he was a Tartarus Worshipper too, it hasn't been revealed which ranking he was.
  • You Killed My Father: One of the main reasons for Ned's immense hatred against Oldin and the Twin Knights. Which is why Zephyr wanted to make sure Ned had the perfect revenge.

Slaves

People who either lost their homes to monsters and were taken in by the Temple of Light, or were adventurers who were healed by the Temple of Light and have to pay back their exorbitant medical costs.

Tropes In General

  • Made a Slave: Whether they lost their homes to monsters or were adventurers who have to pay back their exorbitant medical costs, those who are taken in by the Temple of Light become slaves that are forced to work off their debts.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Thanks to how high everything is priced at the Temple of Light and how little they receive for their work, the slaves are essentially kept forever in the Temple of Light's debt.
  • Slave Brand: The Slave Mark is this. All slaves receive the Slave Mark on their right shoulders, which allows them to be given forced commands by Priests of Light and kills them if they step foot outside of a Temple of Light.
  • Work Off the Debt: The main way for slaves to earn their freedom is to pay off their debts, with other ways being contributing to a successful raid and convincing a Priest of Light to simply remove the Slave Mark.
  • Worker Unit: Slaves are divided into several divisions: Mining Teams, Hunting Teams, the Inquisitors and their Official Agents, and more.

    Gote

Gote

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gote_8.PNG
Click here to see him without his armor

The leader of Gote's Hunting Team, a Recon Unit tasked with scouting out dungeons and reporting their finds. He remained stuck in his position for four years, but his luck changed when Zephyr came along.

Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Due to being part of a Recon Unit, Gote was looked down upon by the other Hunting Teams. While fighting the Black Steel Spider Queen, he realized he no longer wanted that.
  • Cowardly Lion: For four years, Gote remained a Recon Unit leader due to playing it safe and not taking risks. However, as seen with the Black Steel Spider dungeon, he can fight.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Is the "in-between" to Dale's "mean" (until he finally began to respect Zephyr) and Marco's "nice".
  • Passed-Over Promotion: Because Gote played it safe and didn't take risks, he remained the leader of a Recon Unit for four years. However, after Zephyr had beaten the three promised dungeons (the Black Steel Spider Dungeon, the Cockatrice Nest, and the remote mountain village that Ned manipulated the documents to seem like a Goblin Den), this will no longer be the case.
  • Spell My Name with an S: Depending on the translation, his name may be spelled as either "Gote" or "Goethe".
  • Stealing the Credit: All the credit for the dungeons Zephyr helped him clear went directly to Gote, making him look better. In fact, that was part of the deal Zephyr made him: help Zephyr poach monster corpses, and Zephyr will clear three dungeons for him with all the credit going to Gote.
  • Still the Leader: After Zephyr joined Gote's Hunting Team, he became the de facto leader with Gote remaining the leader in name only.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Gote became more confident in his abilities.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In addition, after defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Gote became more respectful towards Zephyr.

    Dale

Dale

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dale_4.PNG
Click here to see him without his armor

A swordsman of Gote's Hunting Team. Despite being with the unit for only a few months, he shows promise. Dale was supposed to die in the Kobold Den, but was spared when Zephyr killed the Predator. Dale was initially rude to Zephyr but after defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, he grew to respect Zephyr immensely.

Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Due to being part of a Recon Unit, Dale was looked down upon by the other Hunting Teams. While fighting the Black Steel Spider Queen, he realized he no longer wanted that.
  • Brutal Honesty: Before finally respecting Zephyr, Dale made it no secret that he thought Zephyr was "trash" and "a scammer".
  • Curbstomp Battle: A Predator utterly annihilated Dale. In fact, the Predator killed Dale in his previous life and would have killed him again in his current life had Zephyr not intervened.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Is the "mean" (until he finally began to respect Zephyr) to Marco's "nice" and Gote's "in-between".
  • Taught by Experience: Dale learned just how good Zephyr was not by words, but by watching him fight. Only then did he finally respect Zephyr.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Dale became more confident in his abilities.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In addition, after defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Dale finally began to respect Zephyr.

    Marco

Marco

Click here to see him without his armor

The tank of Gote's Hunting Team. Marco was supposed to die in the Kobold Den, but was spared when Zephyr killed the Predator.

Tropes:

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Due to being part of a Recon Unit, Marco was looked down upon by the other Hunting Teams. While fighting the Black Steel Spider Queen, he realized he no longer wanted that.
  • Curbstomp Battle: A Predator utterly annihilated Marco. In fact, the Predator killed Marco in his previous life and would have killed him again in his current life had Zephyr not intervened.
  • Drop the Hammer: Marco's preferred weapon is a large mallet.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Marco is almost always seen with his eyes shut, no matter the situation.
  • Nice Guy: Marco may have been skeptical of Zephyr at first, but unlike Dale, Marco was much more respectful towards Zephyr.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Is the "nice" to Dale's "mean" (until he finally began to respect Zephyr) and Gote's "in-between".
  • Took a Level in Badass: After defeating the Black Steel Spider Queen, Marco became more confident in his abilities.

    Sahak

Sahak

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sahak_1.PNG
Click here to see him after being scarred

One of the Inquisitor's Official Agents in the Temple of Light who worked under Ned Stryer. He lorded his position over his fellow slaves and did not take his loss against Zephyr very well.

Tropes:

  • Asshole Victim: Sahak's death at the hands of Zephyr was very well-deserved, as he had killed countless slaves and sacrificed over a hundred innocent villagers to his Shoggoth.
  • Blood from the Mouth: After Zephyr punched him in the gut with an electric fist.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Zephyr used electric acceleration to burst the blood he aforementionedly spilled, causing lightning to strike down and electrocute Sahak.
  • Drunk with Power: As an Inquisitor's Official Agent, Sahak used his position to strike fear into the other slaves and punish whomever he wanted to.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: After Ned shoved a blade into Sahak's mouth, Sahak gained large scars that make it look like he is permanently grinning.
  • Hate Sink: Let's see...Sahak murdered countless slaves and only got one Tartarus Worshipper for every seven he killed, happily took the Tartarus Worshippers' items—despite having murdered anyone whom he even suspected to be a Tartarus Worshipper—just to get revenge on Zephyr, sacrificed over a hundred innocent villagers to feed the Shoggoth...no wonder his death was so satisfying.
  • High-Voltage Death: How Zephyr killed him. Zephyr used the Dragon's Roar and the Dragon King-Style Martial Arts Lightning Palm to finish him off.
  • Hypocrite: Sahak may have thought that the Tartarus Worshippers were dangerous and needed to be killed on sight, but he had absolutely no problems with using a Shoggoth, one of the Tartarus Worshippers' greatest weapons, to try to kill Zephyr.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: The best solution for dealing with Tartarus Worshippers and anyone who annoys him? Murder them.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The "Mad Hound".
  • Revenge: Wanted revenge against Zephyr for defeating him in front of numerous spectators and humiliating him, even going as far as using the Tartarus Worshippers' weapons and feeding over a hundred people to his Shoggoth. Too bad it didn't work out.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Sahak sacrificing over a hundred innocent villagers for the sake of revenge really sealed the deal for Zephyr wanting to kill him.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Ned and Mathias. They only let him do what he wanted to make it seem like the Inquisitors were actually hunting Tartarus Worshippers while taking eyes off of their own activities.
  • Villainous Breakdown: What Sahak went through after losing to Zephyr and being threatened with demotion to a normal slave.

Monsters

Creatures created from distortions of mana. Most monsters are hostile towards humans, and so have caused a lot of trouble for a long time. However, they also presented humans with numerous opportunities.

Tropes In General

  • Dungeon Crawler: Many monsters lurk in dungeons, where Hunting Teams go and kill them for Mana Stones and raw materials.
  • Kill All Humans: What the monsters want to do to humanity.
  • Monster Organ Trafficking: The bones and hides of monsters can be used to make weapons and garments while the Mana Stones in their bodies can be harvested. Eventually, monsters began to be seen as a valuable resource.

    Kobolds

Kobolds

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kobold.PNG

Lower-ranking monsters that make caves their dens. They are canine in appearance and walk on two legs.

Tropes:

  • Loincloth: The only article of clothing that Kobolds wear.
  • Mooks: Kobolds are treated as such, seeing as how they are so easily defeated and drop low-quality Mana Stones.
  • The Nose Knows: Kobolds have a very good sense of smell. Zephyr uses this against them by mixing Moon Bush berries and leaves with Kobold excrement to imitate the smell of a Kobold in heat, causing many to fall into a trap and get impaled on wooden spikes.
  • Wolf Man: Kobolds look like monstrous, humanoid canines.

    Predators

Predators

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/predator.PNG

Incredibly dangerous monsters who trick others into raising them before killing their hosts once they are fully grown. Predators use fear and ferocity for slaughter.

Tropes:

  • Curbstomp Battle: A Predator utterly annihilated Dale and Marco. In fact, the Predator killed Dale and Marco in their previous lives and would have killed them again in their current lives had Zephyr not intervened.
  • Extra Eyes: Predators have eight red eyes. This makes them appear all the more menacing and creepy.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Predators have many, many sharp teeth, making them all the more fearsome.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Predators are essentially brood parasites who trick the host species into raising the Predators as their own. Upon being fully grown, Predators devour those who raised them and leave.
  • Spree Killer: Predators are very capable killers, as seen when one Predator was enough to massacre an entire village.
  • Supernatural Fear Inducer: The <Fear> skill paralyzes the opponent with fear, making them unable to move. Zephyr was able to counter it with Dragon Weed and the <Hermes's Secret Skill> perk.

    Black Steel Spiders

Black Steel Spiders

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/black_steel_spider_queen_0.PNG
Black Steel Spider Queen
Black Steel Spider Knight
Black Steel Spider

Arachnid monsters that have a thick outer skin as hard as steel. They live in dark, cramped places and rapidly spawn.

Tropes:

  • Achilles' Heel: The fact that Black Steel Spider Queens have adapted to minimizing the use of their hind legs due to living in narrow spawning lairs is used against the Black Steel Spider Queen Zephyr, Gote, Dale, and Marco fought against by making it essentially safe to be near her hind legs.
  • All Webbed Up: Black Steel Spiders produce extremely sticky webs that can detect whatever gets caught in the silk. Zephyr gets around this by having Gote, Dale, and Marco cover their weapons in their cloaks to prevent them from getting stuck. And by using the web sacs, Zephyr had Gote, Dale, and Marco make webs to slow down the Black Steel Spiders who were chasing after him.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Black Steel Spiders resemble ants more than spiders in how they reproduce, their hierarchy, and their roles. Justified, in that Black Steel Spiders are spider-like monsters and are not strictly spiders.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: The bellies and legs of the Black Steel Spiders are easier to attack than their backs, which were what Zephyr had Gote, Dale, and Marco aim for.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The Black Steel Spider Queen is HUGE.
  • Blinded by Rage: After Zephyr burned all her eggs using flour and an arrow to create a dust explosion, the Black Steel Spider Queen became so furious at Zephyr that she could not process anything going on behind her, which Gote, Dale, and Marco used to their advantage.
  • Explosive Breeder: The Black Steel Spider Queen produces a vast amount of eggs extremely quickly, allowing her to create an army in no time.
  • Giant Spider: What the Black Steel Spiders are.
  • Made of Iron: Because of their thick outer skin that is as hard as steel, swords cannot penetrate their skin. Also, because of this, their legs can be made into weapons, which is what Zephyr did to one of the Black Steel Spider Knights.
  • Mook Maker: The Black Steel Spider Queen produces a slew of Black Steel Spiders extremely quickly, who then serve the nest.
  • Mother of a Thousand Young: A Black Steel Spider Queen can have literally thousands of offspring.
  • Poison Is Corrosive: The Black Steel Spider Queen's poison melts those with too low of a mana defense right where they stood.
  • Projectile Webbing: After jumping, the Black Steel Spider Queen can shoot out an entire web from her spinnerets to ensnare enemies.
  • Revenge: The Black Steel Spider Queen didn't think it was enough to just kill Zephyr; she wanted to melt him with her poison, condemning him to a horrible death. Too bad it didn't work out for her.
  • Spiders Are Scary: A Black Steel Spider Nest is considered to be more dangerous than an adult Predator, which really says something.

    Cockatrices

Cockatrices

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cockatrice.PNG

Giant raptor-like monsters that live in nests with a leader that stands almost a hundred feet tall. They are ill-tempered and attack anyone who disturbs them.

Tropes:

  • Basilisk and Cockatrice: Cockatrices are...well, cockatrices.
  • Brutal Bird of Prey: The Cockatrices brutally slaughtered an entire Hunting Team, leaving only one survivor.
  • Feathered Fiend: The Cockatrices are horrifying creatures that murder whoever incur their wrath.
  • The Worf Effect: Of course, that did not stop Zephyr from single-handedly annihilating an entire nest including the leader, who stood almost a hundred feet tall.

    Blue Dragon Artalis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blue_dragon_artalis.PNG
Click here to see Blue Dragon Artalis before being poisoned
Click here to see Blue Dragon Artalis wielding its severed arm like a sword

One of the eight most difficult challenges in the world. After being stirred and lured to West Cayenne by the Tartarus Worshippers, Blue Dragon Artalis made its nest at the water source of the river at the Danakil Plains, Aslan's largest granary. Due to the deadly poison Blue Dragon Artalis spews out, 80% of the farmland was eradicated in three years, with the remaining 20% being in danger of eradication in the next year.

Tropes:

  • The Dreaded: Seeing as Blue Dragon Artalis is one of the eight most difficult challenges in the world, it definitely is this.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Blue Dragon Artalis—by itself—wreaked havoc on the Danakil Plains, almost completely destroying it in three years and putting all of Aslan's food supply in serious danger.
  • The Plague: The disaster Blue Dragon Artalis brought about is treated as one, seeing as so many people died from its poisons. A medical relief station was set up to protect the farmers who lost their place and to reduce the suffering of anyone who was poisoned.
  • Poisonous Person: The poisons spewed out by Blue Dragon Artalis eradicated 80% of the farmland at the Danakil Plains in three years. The poisons cannot be purified by healers, and anyone unfortunate enough to be inflicted with said poison can only wait to die an agonizing death...until Zephyr showed up. However...
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: It turns out Blue Dragon Artalis was never actually evil to begin with. It did not purposely seek to wreak havoc on the Great Elfen Forest and the Danakil Plains; it only came to the Lake of Life to heal itself. Blue Dragon Artalis was never a poison dragon to begin with, instead having been poisoned by the demonified Black Moon Ramiel. In other words, all it wanted to do was save its own life, and unintentionally brought about the disaster due to the demon's poison seeping out of its body. It has no immunity to the poison and was in constant agony for three years, only fighting the elves when they tried to attack it first and leaving them alone otherwise, despite dragons being territorial by nature and having territories vastly larger than the Great Elfen Forest.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Dariel managed to sever Blue Dragon Artalis's right arm with the <Crimson Meteor> skill and three Black Dragon Arrows. However, Blue Dragon Artalis managed to pick up its severed arm and used <Language Enchantment> to turn its lifeforce into a sword.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: Due to the insides of its mouth being much softer than its scales on the outside and having important blood vessels and nerves within its mouth, Zephyr initially targeted all of his attacks there to deal maximum damage until its breath pocket could be dealt with.
  • Break the Haughty: Blue Dragon Artalis initially looked down upon the demonified Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel as "inferior beings" until Black Moon Ramiel poisoned Blue Dragon Artalis, it having to go to the Lake of Life to prevent itself from immediately dying.
  • Breath Weapon: Blue Dragon Artalis's <Dragon Breath> was strong enough to burn down parts of the Great Elfen Forest despite its immense vitality and Zephyr knew to dodge lest he be grievously harmed. Only after a dragonified Zephyr damaged its breath pocket with his own <Dragon Breath> did it become safe enough for the rear squad to attack Blue Dragon Artalis through the Mana Road.
  • From Bad to Worse: After Blue Dragon Artalis dove into the Lake of Life to recover the damage Zephyr and the rear squad dealt, the raging waves of poisonous water caused the corrupted Magic Flora Plants to create strong enemies that were the equivalent of Dungeon Bosses. One of them had impossibly-accurate aim up to 700 meters away while another teleported all of the strong enemies into the fort, putting the entire rear squad in horrendous danger.
  • Hope Spot: Just as it seemed that Blue Dragon Artalis would be able to attack Zephyr from behind while he was distracted with its newly-regenerated breath pocket, Zephyr unceremoniously nailed the Stake of Faith into Blue Dragon Artalis's head with Zephyr calling Blue Dragon Artalis "dead meat".
  • Eye Scream: What happened to Blue Dragon Artalis's left eye after Zephyr nailed it with the Stake of Faith.
  • Humanizing Tears: For how monstrous and disastrous Blue Dragon Artalis had been, it deeply cared for its master Kaisaurus to the point that it cried twice for Kaisaurus: once while telling Georgios to leave lest it be forced to kill him for killing Kaisaurus, and again when Blue Dragon Artalis resolved itself to never forgive Georgios after seeing Zephyr wield Gram.
  • Incredibly Durable Enemies: Let's see...having its insides torn to shreds by Zephyr, enduring horrendous damage dealt by the rear squad through the Mana Road, being bombarded by countless Black Dragon Arrows, having its breath pocket destroyed twice, having its left eye gouged out by the Stake of Faith and later having the Stake of Faith go clean through its throat, losing its right arm, being subjected to a barrage of brutal strikes from Zephyr...and Blue Dragon Artalis is STILL strong enough to use <Language Enchantment> to wield its severed arm like a sword. And this is after being poisoned for three whole years. In the previous timeline, it took Zephyr an entire month to defeat Blue Dragon Artalis—albeit not while it was alive but after it possessed a body within a ritual space—due to Zephyr basically fighting it with memories of its prime (like when Zephyr fought Kaisaurus the Black Dragon with memories of his former self while Eurydice was transplanting the Dragon Heart into him).
  • Mind over Matter: Blue Dragon Artalis's true power. It has strong telekinetic powers, able to forcefully eject a boosted and dragonified Zephyr out of its body as he was tearing its insides to shreds and would have utterly annihilated the entire rear squad had the Mana Road not quickly changed from being bi-directional to being uni-directional at the cost of reducing damage output. The only reason Blue Dragon Artalis did not immediately use its telekinetic powers was because of its immense agony from the demon's poison, but after it sobered up due to the intense damage Zephyr and the rear squad dealt, the Blue Dragon Raid truly began. Its telekinetic powers are so strong, it could easily snap the branches of the Tree of Life that are strong enough to easily support the weight of a huge dragon just by psychically controlling the contaminated Water of Life in addition to breaking the Black Dragon Chain, which could not be broken with brute force.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Although Blue Dragon Artalis was grateful to Georgios for freeing its master Kaisaurus from the demon curse, it told Georgios to immediately leave its sight lest it be forced to kill Georgios for killing its master. Blue Dragon Artalis's loyalty as Kaisaurus's vassal prevented it from ever forgiving Georgios.
  • We Meet Again: Upon seeing Zephyr wielding Gram, Blue Dragon Artalis either mistook him for Georgios, or acknowledged Zephyr as Georgios's successor. Either way, after the memory of the last time Blue Dragon Artalis saw Georgios flashed through its mind, it made the threat to kill into an oath.
    Blue Dragon Artalis: "Sword...That sword...You...again."
  • Words Can Break My Bones: Blue Dragon Artalis's <Language Enchantment> is so strong, Blue Dragon Artalis could freeze Zephyr in addition to the surrounding water droplets and leaves with just one 'stop' as well as preventing Zephyr from even opening the Silver Key. The 'stop' command would last for seven seconds, which would have been more than enough time for Blue Dragon Artalis to charge a <Dragon Breath> and fire it at Zephyr...had Dariel not fired two rounds of <Crimson Meteor>, severely wounding Blue Dragon Artalis. However, even after being severely wounded and later having its right arm severed, Blue Dragon Artalis managed to pick up its severed arm and once again used <Language Enchantment> to turn its lifeforce into a sword.

    Ice Dragon Merenia

Ice Dragon Merenia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ice_dragon_4.PNG

One of the eight most difficult challenges in the world. After being stirred and lured to West Cayenne by the Tartarus Worshippers, Ice Dragon Merenia occupied the Great Port, the center of Western distribution.

Tropes:

  • The Dreaded: Seeing as Ice Dragon Merenia is one of the eight most difficult challenges in the world, it definitely is this.
  • An Ice Person: Seems to be one, judging by its title.

Hondur, the Master of the Canyon

Hondur, the Master of the Canyon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hondur.PNG

The Master of the Canyon of Oblivion, one of the eight most difficult challenges in the world. The appearance of this monster in their previous lives forced Ned and Zephyr out of their cave early, and nearly killed Zephyr before Ned sacrificed himself to save Zephyr.

Tropes:

The Tomb of the Fallen Princess

An imposing dungeon that was one of the eight most difficult challenges in the world. The dungeon was crawling with undead skeletons and the walls exuded an intense evil energy. The Third Parish of the Temple of Light was built as a base of operations for Lucius to raid the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. They have failed for ten years, with Zephyr joining the final raid.

Tropes In General

  • Ancient Tomb: The Tomb of the Fallen Princess is over a thousand years old.
  • Dem Bones: The Skeletons, Bone Golems, and Skeleton Mages.
  • Feel No Pain: The Skeletons, Bone Golems, and Skeleton Mages cannot feel pain due to being undead.
  • Made of Evil: The walls of the Tomb of the Fallen Princess are imbued with an intensely evil energy. Those who cannot withstand said intensely evil energy are done for.
  • Mega Dungeon: The Tomb of the Fallen Princess is an extremely large underground dungeon with a story arc that lasted for fifteen chapters.
  • Mobile Maze: The special defensive contraption and the Master Key to Eurydice's Tomb can rearrange the entire layout of the dungeon.
  • Power Crystal: The Crystal of Magic and the Master Key to Eurydice's Tomb are these in addition to the crystals that housed Eurydice's tomb relics.
  • Reviving Enemy: The Skeleton Mages do this to the Skeletons and the Bone Golems, forcing them to be defeated lest the Skeletons and the Bone Golems keep coming back.
  • Scary Skeleton: The Skeletons, Bone Golems, and Skeleton Mages all appear horrifying.
  • Treasure Room: The Treasure Chamber of the Tomb of the Fallen Princess is filled with powerful, priceless artifacts that are stored in crystals. Thanks to the Master Key to Eurydice's Tomb, Zephyr was able to access it and allowed himself, Ned, Lucius, Leona, and Arno to gear up.

Tropes:

  • Mooks: The lowest-level enemy within the Tomb of the Fallen Princess.
  • Multi-Mook Melee: The Skeletons attack their foes all at once.
  • Zerg Rush: There are so many Skeletons, there is almost no end to them.

Giant amalgamations of Skeletons that are controlled by Skeleton Mages.

Tropes:

  • All Your Powers Combined: Being a giant amalgamation of Skeletons, Bone Golems are much stronger than the Skeletons by themselves.

    Skeleton Mages

Skeleton Mages

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skeleton_mage_3.PNG

Intermediate skeleton monsters capable of controlling lower-level skeletons. Skeleton Mages receive power from the Ancient Tombstones, and cannot be defeated until they are destroyed.

Tropes:

  • Elite Mook: Skeleton Mages have complete control over Skeletons and Bone Golems.
  • Necromancer: Skeleton Mages are able to nearly endlessly revive and manipulate Skeletons and Bone Golems, eventually tiring the opposition out.
  • Power Source: The Ancient Tombstones supply mana to the Skeleton Mages, and must be destroyed to defeat them.

The Gatekeeper to the Boss Room of the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. Under normal circumstances, the Gatekeeper Georgios must first be defeated before entering the Boss Room. He was once The Knight Georgios, one of The Twelve Heroes who fought off the demons over a thousand years ago.

Tropes:

  • Apologetic Attacker: Georgios sincerely apologized to Kaisaurus the Black Dragon before killing him.
  • Badass Cape: Donned one with his armor. Zephyr obtained it along with the Dragon Slayer's Plate Coat, Plate Boots, Gauntlet Set after defeating and purifying him.
  • Beat the Curse Out of Him: When Zephyr defeated the Gatekeeper Georgios with the Sword of Light's exclusive skill <Yehi Or (Let There Be Light)>, Zephyr also broke the curse due to the powerful curse removal effect of <Yehi Or (Let There Be Light)>.
  • BFS: Gram is quite a large sword, even when Georgios originally wielded it before being cursed.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The demon curse made Georgios think of wanting nothing but to annihilate humanity.
  • Connected All Along: Georgios is the ancestor of Altair Justina Cayenne, the one Zephyr loved. After Zephyr defeated and purified Georgios, he took Georgios's sword Gram and the dragon slayer's armor. Georgios is also the ancestor of Polaris Albert Cayenne, Altair’s eldest brother and the current Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Curse: Thanks to the Golden/Gold Dragon lying about removing the curse that had been on the Dragon Heart, when Eurydice transplanted it into Georgios, he was unintentionally afflicted with the same curse that had affected Kaisaurus, turning him into a monster who seeks to annihilate humanity. Even after Eurydice ripped the Dragon Heart out of him, Georgios remained cursed until over a thousand years later.
  • Died Happily Ever After: After Zephyr and Ned departed the Third Parish of the Temple of Light, Georgios passed on to the afterlife in peace with a purified Eurydice, having passed on their mission to Zephyr and their descendant Altair.
  • The Dragon Slayer: One of Georgios's titles was "Dragon Slayer". His armor is called the "Dragon Slayer's Plate Coat, Plate Boots, Gauntlet Set". His sword, Gram, displays even greater power against dragons. And Georgios was the one who killed Kaisaurus the Black Dragon.
  • Dying as Yourself: When Zephyr used <Yehi Or (Let There Be Light)>, Georgios finally returned to his normal self. Later on, he passed on to the afterlife with Eurydice, who had also been purified.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Even as the Gatekeeper, Georgios seemed to genuinely love Eurydice, as seen when he gave her some of his mana after she was initially defeated, bringing her back. After being purified, the "evil" part no longer applies.
  • Face–Monster Turn: The demon curse turned Georgios from a human into a monster. After being cursed, Georgios changed from wanting to protect humanity to wanting to destroy it.
  • Heel–Face Turn: And after being purified and returning to his normal self, Georgios became good again before departing for the afterlife with Eurydice.
  • Gate Guardian: As the Gatekeeper, Georgios was this.
  • Good Parents: Georgios's main motivation for wanting the Dragon Heart transplanted into him was to have the power to give his and Eurydice's daughter a safe world to live in.
  • Greed: As the Gatekeeper, Georgios coveted the Dragon Heart with his entire being, saying it belongs to only him over and over again.
  • Happily Married: To Eurydice. Before becoming cursed, that is.
  • Heroic Resolve: Georgios wanted nothing more than to defeat the demons and to protect humanity. Eurydice saw the same resolve in Zephyr, which was what finally convinced her to transplant the Dragon Heart into him.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Although Eurydice was no damsel in distress, Georgios was still this to her. After killing Kaisaurus and presenting the Dragon Heart to Eurydice, Georgios finally confessed to her and they eventually got married and had a daughter. The Fallen Princess Eurydice even called him this after he, as the Gatekeeper, gave her some of his mana.
  • Lady and Knight: The "knight" to Eurydice's "lady".
  • Living Distant Ancestor: Was this to Altair and Polaris before finally passing on.
  • Monster Knight: After being cursed, the Gatekeeper Georgios became one.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Since Eurydice had her and Georgios's daughter a thousand years ago and he had been kept alive due to the demon curse, it is a given that Georgios outlived his daughter.
  • Spell My Name with an S: Depending on the translation, his name may be spelled as either "Georgios" or "Georgius".
  • Victory Through Intimidation: For the raid a year prior to the one Zephyr joined, just the sight of the Gatekeeper was enough for Lucius and his raid party to flee in sheer terror.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: Gram displays even stronger power against dragons, making it an ideal weapon when facing one.

The eponymous Fallen Princess of the Tomb of the Fallen Princess. Eurydice took the Dragon Heart with her to her tomb a thousand years ago and casted numerous spells to prevent her from being disturbed. In reality, she was once The Grand Sorceress Princess Eurydice and the leader of The Twelve Heroes. Eurydice spent the last thousand years in her tomb purifying the Dragon Heart. However, after purifying the Dragon Heart, she fell victim to the curse that had once plagued it, making her evil.

Tropes:

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Upon receiving some of the Gatekeeper Georgios's mana after her initial defeat, the Fallen Princess came back stronger than before.
  • Achilles' Heel: While transforming into her second form, the Fallen Princess Eurydice momentarily cannot move. Zephyr took advantage of this by having Ned drop the Stake of Faith on her while she was immobilized.
  • Action Girl: Eurydice was the strongest sorcerer in all of history and was the leader of The Twelve Heroes.
  • The Archmage: As the strongest sorcerer in all of history, Eurydice definitely qualifies as one.
  • Attack Reflector: Eurydice's <Black Mirror> spell reflects any damage taken by 300%.
  • Beat the Curse Out of Her: Thanks to the Sword of Light's exclusive skill <Yehi Or (Let There Be Light)>, Eurydice's curse was finally broken and she returned to being her former self.
  • Beautiful All Along: Eurydice was a very beautiful woman a thousand years ago, and is shown to still be beautiful after being purified.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: After becoming good again, Eurydice becomes beautiful once more.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The demon curse made Eurydice lose her mind, trapping her in a terrifying darkness with her only being freed after Zephyr purified her.
  • Character Level: Eurydice reached Level 7 of the Ancient Magics of Medea, and speculated that Altair might reach Level 8, something she herself could never do.
  • Connected All Along: Eurydice is the ancestor of Altair Justina Cayenne, the one Zephyr loved. After Zephyr purified Eurydice, she transplanted the Dragon Heart into him. Eurydice is also the ancestor of Polaris Albert Cayenne, Altair’s eldest brother and the current Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers.
  • Curse: Eurydice was afflicted by the curse on the Dragon Heart after spending the last thousand years purifying it.
  • Dead Man Writing: After Eurydice crumbled to ash, Eurydice left a message in the Crystal of Magic found in the ashes explaining the power of the Dragon Heart and telling Zephyr to give the Crystal of Magic to Altair, Eurydice's descendant, so she can help him. Turns out Eurydice also left a separate message for Altair, which activated after Altair absorbed the Crystal of Magic.
  • Died Happily Ever After: After Zephyr and Ned departed the Third Parish of the Temple of Light, Eurydice passed on to the afterlife in peace with a purified Georgios, having passed on their mission to Zephyr and their descendant Altair.
  • The Dulcinea Effect: Invoked on Ned. The Fallen Princess's spell caused Ned to feel sorry for her and to walk towards her while wondering what he can do to take away some of her sadness. If Zephyr had not caught Ned, he would have been devoured.
  • Energy Absorption: The <Dark Hand> skill absorbs energy with the red hands absorbing stamina and the blue hands absorbing mana.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Even while cursed, Eurydice genuinely loved Georgios as seen when she cried after receiving some of the Gatekeeper's mana, calling him her "knight in shining armor". After being purified, the "evil" part no longer applies.
  • Evil Makes You Ugly: After being cursed, Eurydice became a hideous monster with multiple repulsive forms. However, after being purified, Eurydice reverted to her original appearance albeit being very pale.
  • Evil Sorcerer: The Fallen Princess Eurydice was an evil sorceress who killed countless people. However, she only became evil upon being afflicted by the curse that was on the Dragon Heart after purifying it, and it seems like her killing all those people really might have been a false rumor.
  • Face–Monster Turn: The demon curse turned Eurydice from a human into a monster. After being afflicted by the curse on the Dragon Heart after purifying it, Eurydice became evil.
  • Heel–Face Turn: And after being purified by Zephyr, Eurydice became good again.
  • Happily Married: To Georgios. Before he became cursed, that is.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Eurydice spent the last thousand years doing nothing but purifying the Dragon Heart to give it to someone worthy, so the world can be saved.
  • Instant Runes: Eurydice's Magic Circles utilize these.
  • Lady and Knight: The "lady" to Georgios's "knight".
  • The Leader: Of The Twelve Heroes and who gathered the other eleven.
  • Living Distant Ancestor: Was this to Altair and Polaris before finally passing on.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After transplanting an unknowingly still-cursed Dragon Heart into Georgios, she was horrified upon seeing him transforming into a monster. This is part of the reason why Eurydice initially refused to transplant the Dragon Heart into Zephyr even after it had been purified, and he had to convince her that he could handle it.
  • Near-Villain Victory: If Zephyr had not succeeded in his ultimatum to the gods, the Fallen Princess would have killed Zephyr and Ned.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Thanks to the <Spacial Distortion> spell, Eurydice cannot even be touched by almost anything except by divine items such as the Sword of Light.
  • One-Winged Angel: After having her head cut off, the Fallen Princess transforms into her second form and becomes vastly more powerful. However, she is unable to move during the transformation, which Zephyr had Ned take advantage of.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Since Eurydice had her and Georgios's daughter a thousand years ago and she had kept herself alive from then to a thousand years later, it is a given that Eurydice outlived her daughter.
  • Passing the Torch: To Zephyr after he finally convinced her to transplant the Dragon Heart into him.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Thanks to a giant magic circle embodying the Tree of Life, Eurydice was able to stay alive for a thousand years while she was purifying the Dragon Heart.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The Fallen Princess's eyes are red, and she was an incredibly dangerous foe who nearly defeated Zephyr. However, after being purified, this is no longer the case; although Eurydice's eyes are still red, she is no longer evil.
  • Reduced to Dust: After exhausting her extended lifespan while transplanting the Dragon Heart into Zephyr, Eurydice crumbled to ash.
  • Resting Recovery: Eurydice had Ned rest for three days after giving him some of her mana and forcing him to throw up his Marked Bug, which remained a larva due to him never using its power.
  • Significant Name Shift: Eurydice had Georgios refer to her by her name instead of "Royal Highness" after he presented the Dragon Heart to her and before she reciprocated his feelings.
  • Space Master: Eurydice made the Stake of Faith vanish by dropping it into an unknown space. In addition, the <Spacial Distortion> spell allows Eurydice to be nigh untouchable by distorting the space around her. Consequently, this also makes her attacks unable to hit her targets, forcing her to manifest again to attack. However, divine items are able to completely bypass the protection.
  • Spell My Name with an S: Depending on the translation, her name may be spelled as either "Eurydice" or "Yuridika".
  • Tears of Joy: Eurydice shedded these after realizing she could let go of her burden due to Zephyr succeeding her legacy.
  • Touch Telepathy: Eurydice's <Communion> skill allows her to read the emotions and memories of another through physical contact. Zephyr had her use the skill to look into his memories so he could convey the reason he wanted the Dragon Heart.
  • Who Dares?: After Zephyr and Ned entered the Boss Room without defeating the Gatekeeper Georgios, the Fallen Princess Eurydice appeared, demanding who dared disturb her royal slumber.
  • "World's Best" Character: Was considered to be the strongest sorcerer of all time.

The Twelve Heroes

A group of twelve powerful warriors who were led by Princess Eurydice. They fought the demons a thousand years ago and managed to drive the demons into the desert.

Tropes In General

  • Precursor Heroes: The first set of heroes to fight off the demons. About a thousand years later, Zephyr succeeded Eurydice's and Georgios's legacies.
  • Saving the World: The Twelve Heroes were gathered by their leader Princess Eurydice a thousand years ago to defeat the demons.

    Kaisaurus the Black Dragon

Kaisaurus the Black Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/black_dragon.PNG

The Black Dragon and the strongest of the Seven Dragons. Kaisaurus was once one of The Twelve Heroes who led the charge in the war against the demons, but after being inflicted with a demon curse, he became a terrifying foe his former allies were forced to kill. He is the origin of the Dragon Heart that the Tartarus Worshippers, the Temple of Light, and Zephyr are after.

Tropes:

  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Kaisaurus had one of those with Zephyr while Eurydice was transplanting his Dragon Heart into Zephyr.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Thanks to being inflicted with a demon curse, Kaisaurus lost his mind and went on a rampage, nearly burning down the world and filling it with misery and death.
  • Curse: The demon curse turned Kaisaurus into a horrifying monster who nearly ended the world. The curse lingered in his Dragon Heart, which was unintentionally afflicted to Georgios after Eurydice transplanted it into Georgios with her being tricked into thinking it had been purified. Eurydice then had to spend the next thousand years actually breaking the curse on his Dragon Heart.
  • Evil Former Friend: To the remaining Twelve Heroes.
  • Face–Monster Turn: The demon curse changed Kaisaurus from a helpful ally into a terrible enemy.
  • Fallen Hero: What Kaisaurus became after said Face–Monster Turn.
  • MacGuffin: The Dragon Heart is a kind of magic stone formed within the heart of a dragon, and gives whoever uses it the power of a dragon. It was an item that caused a sensation throughout all of Aslan with the Tartarus Worshippers, the Temple of Light, and Zephyr seeking Kaisaurus's Dragon Heart by raiding the Tomb of the Fallen Princess.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: Kaisaurus really hates the gods and looks down upon anyone with the gods' favor.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Kaisaurus has red eyes, and was an incredibly dangerous foe after being inflicted with a demon curse.
  • Spell My Name with an S: Depending on the translation, his name may be spelled as either "Kaisaurus" or "Kaiserus".
  • Who Dares?: As his Dragon Heart was first being transplanted into Zephyr, Kaisaurus nearly overwhelmed Zephyr with his Overmind, demanding why the gods—whom he could sense the presence of on Zephyr—would send another puppet.
  • Words Can Break My Bones: Kaisaurus can presumably use <Language Enchantment> due to Zephyr being able to use it after having Kaisaurus's Dragon Heart successfully transplanted into him.
  • World's Strongest Man: More like World's Strongest Dragon, but Kaisaurus was the strongest of the Seven Dragons.
  • Worthy Opponent: After being defeated by Zephyr during their Battle in the Center of the Mind, Kaisaurus finally acknowledged Zephyr's power and finally let Zephyr use his Dragon Heart.

    The Golden Dragon

The Golden Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gold_dragon_8.PNG
Click here to see his humanoid form

One of The Twelve Heroes who led the charge in the war against the demons. The Golden/Gold Dragon is the Royal Guardian of the Kingdom of Cayenne, which occupies half of the continent of Aslan, and is on the side of humanity. But not is all as it seems...

Tropes:

  • Et Tu, Brute?: The Golden Dragon betrayed Eurydice and Georgios by tricking Eurydice into thinking the curse on Kaisaurus's Dragon Heart was broken, making her unintentionally afflict that same curse onto Georgios after she transplanted it into him, once again nearly ending the world. The Golden Dragon also casted <Language Enchantment> on Eurydice, making her unable to directly tell anyone about the secret of the world she had found out.
  • Evil All Along: The Golden Dragon only pretended to be Eurydice's and Georgios's ally.
  • Evil Former Friend: To Eurydice and Georgios.
  • Guardian Entity: The guardian of the Kingdom of Cayenne. He demands great respect, even from Lucius the Holy One of Light.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: It is currently unknown why The Golden Dragon did what he did, or why he still pretends to be on the side of humanity.
  • No Name Given: He is only known as "The Golden Dragon".
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Can shift between his dragon form and a humanoid form at will.
  • Words Can Break My Bones: <Language Enchantment> can force the inflicted into doing whatever the user wants, or making them unable to do certain things like how The Golden Dragon made Eurydice unable to directly tell anyone about the secret of the world she had found out.

Elves

Residents of the Great Elfen Forest near the Danakil Plains. They are a long-lived race with high affinity for mana. Elves live in harmony with the Great Elfen Forest and are currently hostile towards most humans due to a purposeful breakdown of their relations.

Tropes In General

  • Defector from Decadence: Three years prior to the start of the story, after Blue Dragon Artalis came and made its nest in the Lake of Life, the strongest of the High Elves—the ones who possess the titles of "Moon"—took all but one of the Seal Boxes hidden within the Twelve Towers in the Great Elfen Forest to start their own kingdoms. They defected from Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest due to her being sick, her being unable to stop Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel from declaring war on the humans of the Danakil Plains, and her being unable to completely stop Blue Dragon Artalis.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: High Elves have cross-shaped pupils. However, the pattern depends on the actions of the High Elf; High Elves with the <Pupil of the Cross> have powerful connections to the Tree of Life and can borrow vast sums of power from it while High Elves with the <Pupil of Destruction> have committed sins and were forcefully cut off from their connection with the Tree of Life.
  • Fountain of Youth: The water of the Lake of Life became the foundation of the elves' long lives and prosperity as well as what fuels the Tree of Life, the being that gives the High Elves their power. However, after Blue Dragon Artalis came and made its nest in the Lake of Life, the water became toxic and spread the poison throughout the Great Elfen Forest and the Danakil Plains, devastating much of the lands. The only reason why humans and elves don't experience instant death from the poison is due to the Water of Life's healing properties, but if left untreated, the victim experiences immense agony before eventually dying anyways.
  • Healing Herb: One of the branches of the Tree of Life was used during the Blue Dragon Raid to create a safe zone where Blue Dragon Artalis's poison mist cannot enter. In addition, Kiara also used said branch to help power Zephyr up right before the Blue Dragon Raid began.
  • Inhumanly Beautiful Race: The elves are quite beautiful. They are so beautiful that bards sing songs of their beauty, beautifying them even further.
  • In Harmony with Nature: The elves can restructure the plants of the Great Elfen Forest to make a comfortable nest as well as to make an impenetrable fortress.
  • Long-Lived: Elves have lifespans several times longer than those of humans with normal elves having an average lifespan of 300 years while High Elves have an average lifespan of 500 years.
  • MacGuffin: The Seal Boxes hidden within the Twelve Towers in the Great Elfen Forest. Just one allows an elf to start their own kingdom. This is because hidden within each Seal Box is a seed that allows another Tree of Life to be born.
  • Malicious Slander: The elves of the Great Elfen Forest are victims of this. After Blue Dragon Artalis devastated the Danakil Plains, a rumor spread that the elves poisoned the farmland as an act of revenge for losing the war.
  • Matter Replicator: The elves originally made Magic Flora Plants to create food and water for convenience. However, after being infected with the poison brought by Blue Dragon Artalis, they instead started generating hostile monsters and after absorbing raging waves of poisonous water, they started creating strong enemies that were the equivalent of Dungeon Bosses.
  • Mind Control: The current King or Queen of Elves has the power to rule over their subjects' minds and can force them into being loyal.
  • Pointy Ears: One of the elves' most distinguishing features.
  • Power Glows: The "Moon" in the nicknames of the strongest High Elves comes from the light that erupts from their backs as they surpass their limits and use their ultimate skills.
  • Telepathy: Elves seem to be able to mentally communicate with any other elf, even over long distances.
  • Uncertain Doom: Despite it being years since the strongest of the High Elves had defected, Philip Pilgrim never heard of any new Elf Kingdoms despite him and his son Edwin Pilgrim traveling the world as merchants.
  • War for Fun and Profit: Four years prior to the start of the story, two High Elves known as Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel invaded the Danakil Plains due to the water from the Lake of Life flowing into it, supposedly making the Danakil Plains the property of the elves. The two High Elves and their followers almost defeated the humans only to lose the war once Prince Polaris and The Golden Dragon intervened.

    Kiara

Kiara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiara.PNG

A High Elf and one of the guards guarding the Door of the Great Elfen Forest. She is Dariel the Divine Archer's sister and the daughter of Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest. She uses magic to defend the entrance, and can give coordinates to Dariel for powerful surprise attacks.

Tropes:

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After admitting defeat to Zephyr, Kiara begged him to help the elves and the Great Elfen Forest as a whole.
  • Brother–Sister Team: Is this with her brother Dariel, providing him with the coordinates necessary to shoot enemies from long distances and from dense cover. In addition, her <Jewel Seed> skill increases the effectiveness of Dariel's arrows exponentially, allowing for the casting of spells such as <Blue Storm> and <Flame Dance> as the arrows wrapped in floral vines fly past.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Is the "foolish sibling" to Dariel's "responsible sibling".
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Immediately knew to surrender after Zephyr displayed the power of the Dragon Heart, due to Blue Dragon Artalis taking so much from the elves.
  • Mark of the Supernatural: Kiara has two different eye colors, one golden and one green. The golden eye has a cross-shaped pupil.
  • Older Than She Looks: Despite appearing so young, Kiara is actually at least over a hundred years old. This is due to her being an elf, a member of a race with lifespans several times longer than those of humans.
  • Precocious Crush: Downplayed in that Kiara is actually at least over a hundred years old, but it seems like Kiara appears to have feelings for Fade, due to how intimately she spoke of him and how quickly she defended Fade from Zephyr's "accusations".
  • Really 700 Years Old: Even despite her slow aging, Kiara currently looks younger in her current life than when Zephyr first met her in his previous life. Zephyr speculated that this may be due to how elves age.
  • Status Buff: Right before the Blue Dragon Raid commenced, Kiara—along with Altair and Elise—casted strengthening spells on Zephyr.

    Elder Heron

Elder Heron

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heron.PNG

One of the High Elf Elders of the Great Elfen Forest. After Kiara agreed to stop attacking Zephyr and his party, she brought them to Elder Heron. After seeing how well Zephyr was able to suppress Blue Dragon Artalis's poison in Sir Grimes, Elder Heron proposed they help each other.

Tropes:

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Agreed to hear Zephyr out and proposed they help each other after seeing how effective Asmodeus was in treating Sir Grimes. When Fade visited the Great Elfen Forest before Zephyr, Elder Heron considered Fade to be a friend due to Fade treating several elves with his poisons, and considers Zephyr a friend as well due to how similar his treatment method was to Fade's. However, Elder Heron is not all that he seems...
  • Treacherous Advisor: What Elder Heron actually is. Originally, Elder Heron wanted to raise Dariel to bring him to Elder Heron's side, but Dariel would never betray Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest and his mother. However, after Zephyr arrived in the Great Elfen Forest, Elder Heron made plans to manipulate Zephyr into helping him retrieve the final Seal Box hidden within the Twelve Towers in the Great Elfen Forest, which would allow Elder Heron to start his own kingdom and abandon the Great Elfen Forest. In addition, on the night before the Blue Dragon Raid, Elder Heron waited for Daisy and Milia to finally leave so he could alter half of the Golems to force them into being his loyal subordinates.
  • Blinded by the Light: Elder Heron's <Flash Light> skill blinds his opponents for up to three seconds. He used this skill against Captain Regulus, Sir Grimes, and a priest to stun them while he stole the core of the magic circle protecting the fort.
  • Fragile Speedster: Despite having little to no fighting prowess, Elder Heron can move extremely fast by using <Acceleration>. Using that skill, he swiftly stole the core of the magic circle protecting the fort and after the demonified Crimson Moon Masha devoured him, she gained his speed.
  • Voice Changeling: Elder Heron used an Imp Acorn to imitate Altair's voice, tricking Captain Regulus into opening the door to the storage the core of the magic circle was in.
  • Off with His Head!: How Elder Heron and his followers died after retrieving the final Seal Box hidden within the Twelve Towers in the Great Elfen Forest. Just as they were celebrating, the demonified Crimson Moon Masha sliced off their heads, killing them so fast their facial expressions didn't have time to change from their joyous ones.

Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest

Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_silvestia_coma.PNG
Click here to see her before becoming comatose

The Queen of the Great Elfen Forest and a High Elf. Queen Silvestia is Dariel the Divine Archer's and Kiara's mother. She has been bedridden and sick for a long time, and her condition only worsened after being poisoned by Blue Dragon Artalis.

Tropes:

  • Delicate and Sickly: Even before being poisoned by Blue Dragon Artalis, Queen Silvestia was described as being a patient who could do nothing more than lie in bed and twitch her eyelids by the High Elves who defected. Queen Silvestia was born blind and unable to walk, and became fully paralyzed after giving birth to Kiara. After being poisoned and enduring the affliction for three years, Queen Silvestia lost most of her remaining strength and would not be able to handle another move.
  • The High Queen: Was described as being a wise and loving queen, being loved dearly by her children and most of her subjects.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Was friendly with humans to the point that Crimson Moon Masha looked down on her for being "chummy with humans".
  • Mind Control: As the current Queen of the Great Elfen Forest, Queen Silvestia has the power to control the minds of her subjects. However, she failed to do so against Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel before they could start a war with the humans of the Danakil Plains, leading several High Elves to being disillusioned with her and leaving to start their own kingdoms.
  • Parents in Distress: Queen Silvestia has been sick for a long time with Dariel and Kiara worrying for her GREATLY. Her being poisoned only increased their worries exponentially. Fortunately, thanks to Zephyr, she had been treated of the poison. Unfortunately, Queen Silvestia remains comatose and became a target of interest to the demonified Crimson Moon Masha upon Crimson Moon Masha regaining some cognitive ability after consuming Elder Heron's blood.
  • Protectorate: Before the Blue Dragon Raid began in the current timeline, Zephyr assigned Ned to the most rear position to protect Queen Silvestia. Ned was initially irked by the request until the demonified Crimson Moon Masha came barging in, after which Ned swiftly dispatched her with several skillful slashes from the Sword of Mirage before blasting her with a powerful <Thunderbolt>.
  • Truly Single Parent: As the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest, Queen Silvestia gave birth to the children of the Tree of Life, them being Dariel and Kiara. However, it is rumored that Kiara was born from an affair Queen Silvestia had with an elf hence why Kiara isn't treated as a High Elf despite being one, but that has yet to be confirmed true.

    Blacksmith Noel

Blacksmith Noel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noel.PNG

One of Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest's servants and the greatest elf blacksmith. He helped in the forging of the Black Dragon Longbow, Black Dragon Arrows, Black Dragon Chain, and the production of countless other items needed for the Blue Dragon Raid.

Tropes:

  • Challenge Seeker: Wasn't put off by Zephyr's endless requests, instead blazing with the spirit of challenge and being eager to take on such daunting tasks.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: Noel definitely is one, seeing as how he was essential in the forging of weapons and items for the Blue Dragon Raid. His masterpiece, the Black Dragon Chain, was strong enough to bind Blue Dragon Artalis's jaws. The Black Dragon Chain could not be broken with brute force, and Blue Dragon Artalis had to resort to using its strong telekinetic powers to break it.

    Crimson Moon Masha

Crimson Moon Masha

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crimson_moon.PNG
Click here to see her demon form

A Queen Candidate sixty years ago and the High Elf who started the war with the humans of the Danakil Plains four years ago alongside Black Moon Ramiel. Both Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel started the war to prove their worthiness to the Tree of Life and to claim the Danakil Plains for themselves. They overpowered the humans and were on the brink of victory only to be defeated by Prince Polaris and The Golden Dragon. However, they managed to steal a Seal Box before barely escaping Dariel the Divine Archer and the Great Elfen Forest with their lives.

Tropes:

  • Dramatic Irony: Despite having been defeated by Prince Polaris, Crimson Moon Masha and Black Moon Ramiel ended up groveling before him after barely escaping with their lives.
  • Eye Scream: What happened to Crimson Moon Masha's right eye as she was fleeing from Dariel. By the time she and Black Moon Ramiel were groveling before Prince Polaris, she had to cover the entire right side of her face with bandages.
  • Extra Eyes: However, after demonifying, her eye grew back. In fact, she also gained three additional eyes, all yellow.
  • Hunter Of Her Own Kind: After Crimson Moon Masha barely escaped from Dariel with her life, she grew to hate her fellow elves and used that hatred to grow stronger as she was demonifying. After her power stabilized, she and the demonified Black Moon Ramiel confronted Blue Dragon Artalis in attempt to obtain its Dragon Heart, all in hopes of becoming strong enough to decimate the Great Elfen Forest and to murder all the elves within.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: After killing Elder Heron and his followers, the demonified Crimson Moon Masha proceeded to devour him, tearing him from limb to limb. The Water of Life within Elder Heron's blood helped her recover the meaning of the various words within her mind.
  • Madness Mantra: After seeing Queen Silvestia for the first time since she was banished and after becoming a demon, Crimson Moon Masha kept on chanting the word 'die' before lunging at the comatose queen.
  • Mark of the Beast: As Crimson Moon Masha was demonifying, her <Pupil of the Cross> had became the <Pupil of Destruction>, proof that she had committed an unforgivable sin.
  • Power Copy: Thanks to her Marked Bug, Crimson Moon Masha gained the ability to copy the abilities of those she devours via <Gluttony>. After devouring Elder Heron, she gained his <Acceleration> skill and used it to rush to Queen Silvestia's bedchambers.
  • Powerful, but Incompetent: After demonifying, although Crimson Moon Masha's destructive prowess had sharply increased, her cognitive abilities were reduced to the point she could not enter one of the Twelve Towers in the Great Elfen Forest to obtain the final Seal Box and could not do so for three whole years. It was only upon killing Elder Heron and his followers after they had retrieved the final Seal Box did she obtain it, and only after consuming his blood did she regain some cognitive ability.
  • Pride: A HUGE part of the reason why Crimson Moon Masha looked down upon Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest; because she is proud of her prowess and was enraged that a "blind cripple" was chosen over her.
  • Revenge: Crimson Moon Masha's main motivation after being banished. She sought the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers Prince Polaris to help her get revenge on the elves, remembered nothing but wanting revenge against the elves and words relating to her revenge after demonifying, and fought with everything on the line against Blue Dragon Artalis all for the sake of revenge.
  • Sanity Slippage: After demonifying, Crimson Moon Masha lost her rationality, only remembering her hostility towards elves and the words "throne", "usurp", "revenge", and "seed" without remembering their meanings.
  • The Worf Effect: However, despite all the power she gained from demonifying and despite regaining some cognitive ability from consuming Elder Heron's blood, Crimson Moon Masha was swiftly dispatched by several skillful slashes from Ned's Sword of Mirage before being blasted with a powerful <Thunderbolt>.

A King Candidate sixty years ago and the High Elf who started the war with the humans of the Danakil Plains four years ago alongside Crimson Moon Masha. Both Black Moon Ramiel and Crimson Moon Masha started the war to prove their worthiness to the Tree of Life and to claim the Danakil Plains for themselves. They overpowered the humans and were on the brink of victory only to be defeated by Prince Polaris and The Golden Dragon. However, they managed to steal a Seal Box before barely escaping Dariel the Divine Archer and the Great Elfen Forest with their lives.

Tropes:

  • Dramatic Irony: Despite having been defeated by Prince Polaris, Black Moon Ramiel and Crimson Moon Masha ended up groveling before him after barely escaping with their lives.
  • Evil Gloating: After Black Moon Ramiel stole Blue Dragon Artalis's Dragon Heart in the previous timeline, Black Moon Ramiel taunted Altair and her party by thanking them before mocking the Tree of Life and taking over the Great Elfen Forest and the Danakil Plains.
  • Eye Scream: What happened to Black Moon Ramiel's left eye as he was fleeing from Dariel. It was to the point that by the time he and Crimson Moon Masha were groveling before Prince Polaris, the left side of his face was drooping.
  • Extra Eyes: However, after demonifying, his eye grew back. In fact, he also gained three additional eyes, one purple like his previously missing eye and two red.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: After Black Moon Ramiel barely escaped from Dariel with his life, he grew to hate his fellow elves and used that hatred to grow stronger as he was demonifying. After his power stabilized, he and the demonified Crimson Moon Masha confronted Blue Dragon Artalis in attempt to obtain its Dragon Heart, all in hopes of becoming strong enough to decimate the Great Elfen Forest and to murder all the elves within.
  • Mark of the Beast: As Black Moon Ramiel was demonifying, his <Pupil of the Cross> had became the <Pupil of Destruction>, proof that he had committed an unforgivable sin.
  • Pride: A HUGE part of the reason why Black Moon Ramiel looked down upon Broken Moon Silvestia, the Queen of the Great Elfen Forest; because he is proud of his prowess and was enraged that a "blind cripple" was chosen over him.
  • Revenge: Black Moon Ramiel's main motivation after being banished. He sought the Leader of the Tartarus Worshippers Prince Polaris to help him get revenge on the elves and fought with everything on the line against Blue Dragon Artalis all for the sake of revenge.
  • Poisonous Person: After demonifying, Black Moon Ramiel gained the <Extreme Venom> ability, creating poison so powerful it could poison a dragon and could not be detoxified by most means. After attacking Black Moon Ramiel, Blue Dragon Artalis nearly died from the horrendous poison and was forced to go to the Lake of Life to prolong its life, kickstarting the poison disaster within the Great Elfen Forest and the Danakil Plains. In addition, after Blue Dragon Artalis was slain by Altair and her party in the previous timeline, Black Moon Ramiel stole Blue Dragon Artalis's Dragon Heart and used it to amplify the power of his poison, melting whatever it touched and turning the Great Elfen Forest and the Danakil Plains into unlivable hellscapes.
  • Taken for Granite: Black Moon Ramiel also gained the ability to turn himself into stone via <Petrification> after he became a demon, using this ability to protect himself from Blue Dragon Artalis's stomach acids. In the previous timeline, Black Moon Ramiel was able to stay in that state for four years and four months, waiting for Altair and her party to slay Blue Dragon Artalis before dispelling his <Petrification>. In the current timeline, Zephyr is doing whatever he can to prevent Black Moon Ramiel from reanimating by using the information garnered from his previous life.

A soldier of the Lord of Danakil and one of the Knight Order's Elite. He is a trustworthy knight with great fighting prowess and was sent to meet Altair's party after they arrived at the medical relief station in the Danakil Plains. However, while on patrol, he was poisoned by monsters that came from the nest of Blue Dragon Artalis before defeating them, and was waiting to die until Zephyr came along.

Tropes:

  • Blood from the Mouth: While Zephyr was administering needles laced with Asmodeus to counteract Blue Dragon Artalis's poison, blood spewed from Sir Grimes's mouth as he was screaming bloody murder.
  • Greater Need Than Mine: Went with Zephyr and his party to the Great Elfen Forest despite not being completely cured so he can serve as living proof of an antidote to the elves and convince them to work with Zephyr.
  • I Owe You My Life: Sir Grimes was extraordinarily grateful to Zephyr after he was successfully treated, wondering how he could ever repay the favor.
  • The Reliable One: Was seen as such by the Lord of Danakil, his son Captain Regulus Danakil, and Altair.
  • Tainted Veins: Due to not being completely cured and still having some of the poison in his body, some of Sir Grimes’s veins are both visible and purplish. However, once he receives the cure, his veins will probably return to normal.

    Captain Regulus Danakil

Captain Regulus Danakil

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captain_regulus.PNG

The eldest son of the Lord of Danakil and the leader of the Danakil Army Scarecrow Knights. After learning of the contents of the urgent letter sent to the Lord of Danakil by Philip Pilgrim, Captain Regulus rushed to the the medical relief station in the Danakil Plains with several knights to see who Philip was being scammed by.

Tropes:

  • Barrier Warrior: In addition to being a competent fighter, Captain Regulus's <Infallible Fortress> skill allows him to protect entire buildings and everything within them. The skill grows stronger the smaller the barrier is with barriers the size of storages able to block attacks from even Legendary weapons, and only disperses when the user leaves the building.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty; Was known for scaring his group members in the academy by being harsh. However, thanks to Captain Regulus, the groups he was in never suffered any accidents and was hard to beat, even for Altair's group, a group of geniuses.
  • A Father to His Men: Captain Regulus cares deeply for his fellow knights, as seen when he immediately tried to attack Zephyr after seeing Sir Grimes in immense agony, and apologizing to and thanking Zephyr for saving Sir Grimes.
  • Heartfelt Apology: Sincerely apologized to Zephyr for not realizing that he was trying to save Sir Grimes, and for trying to attack him. Zephyr immediately forgave Captain Regulus and thought Captain Regulus showed promise for not blaming others while apologizing.
  • The Reliable One: Was seen as such by Altair both in their academy days while he was her senior, and in current times as the leader of the Danakil Army Scarecrow Knights. She knew he was only taking responsibility to figure out what exactly was going on after the Lord of Danakil received her decree.

    Daisy

Daisy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daisy_5.PNG

A mage from the Magic Tower who was deployed by Captain Regulus to the medical relief station. After hearing of Altair's decree, she started serving Zephyr and came with him and his party to the Great Elfen Forest.

Tropes:

  • Badass Bookworm: Despite being more suited for doing research in the labs, Daisy is also able to work on the battlefield with combat and intel spells in her arsenal. Daisy was also able to discern Altair's true capabilities by observing her for the two weeks before the Blue Dragon Raid, and knew exactly what to tell Milia to make sure Milia doesn't ruin anything.
  • Drone Deployer: Can essentially create up to three magical drones at a time with her <Graeae's Eye> skill, which share visual and auditory information with Daisy and each other up to a 200 meter radius from Daisy. After receiving adequate funding and supplies from Altair, Daisy created <Cyclops>, a huge golem that can collect information within a 500 meter radius, can relay information up to one kilometer away, and can relay information to up to sixteen <Graeae> golems at a time.
  • Golem: Daisy can create Golems made out of rocks and powered by Mana Stones, and made countless ones for the Blue Dragon Raid. Examples include <Graeae>, <Cyclops>, combat-type, tombstone-type, and smaller flying varieties.
  • Military Mage: Came with Captain Regulus of the Danakil Army to the medical relief station to investigate the urgent letter sent to the Lord of Danakil by Philip Pilgrim. However, Daisy herself admits to being more suited for the labs.
  • Non-Fatal Explosions: Despite having a powerful blast explode in her face from the bi-directional Mana Road before it became uni-directional, Daisy did not suffer any grave injuries, only becoming dazed before being healed.
  • Shrinking Violet: Appears to be quite shy and has trouble speaking.
  • Stoic Spectacles: A female example. Daisy wears large, round glasses and appears to be quite stoic.
  • Support Party Member: Seems to be one, with her <Graeae's Eye> skill and <Cyclops> providing valuable intel.
  • Youthful Freckles: Has freckles, and appears to be quite young.

    Milia

Milia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/milia.PNG

A mage from the Magic Tower who was deployed to the remote village near the Great Elfen Forest. She was taken prisoner with the rest of the inhabitants, and was released two days later after Zephyr and his party arrived at the Great Elfen Forest.

Tropes:

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Hates Altair, calling Altair a "stuck-up bitch" and even asking Daisy if she found any weaknesses Milia could use to kill Altair.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: The reason why Milia hates Altair. During their academy days, Milia worked tirelessly to learn as much as possible while Altair played around. However, this is ultimately subverted in that Milia doesn't know that Altair did work hard but was forced to do so in secret, and only pretended to be a princess of debauchery so she could grow stronger without arousing suspicion.
  • An Ice Person: Is shown to be using ice-based magic. This fits with her frosty attitude.
  • Military Mage: Along with Daisy, Milia seems to be one as well. However, unlike Daisy, Milia is more focused on combat while Daisy is more focused on research.
  • Ungrateful Bitch: Did not show even an ounce of gratitude for being freed, instead complaining about being dispatched to a remote area and being captured without being able to bathe.
