Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.

Ask the Tropers:
openPony-poster posting plentifully and problematically
Zarbi Nerada keeps editing inappropriately after I've messaged them about their issues. These issues are:
- Bad indentation, even when I already sent a notifier about that.
- In the same edit, they added a part in My Little Pony where a pony's puking as Somewhere, an Equestrian Is Crying even though this is a talking, magical pony we're talking about and obviously that trope is about real animals.
- They also add Zero-Context Examples.
And again: They kept adding bad indentation and zero-context examples even after I told them not to.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenWhat's a DIH?
I noticed that The Amazing World of Gumball had a "DIH" subpage. What does it mean? From the look of it, it seems to be a Getting Crap Past the Radar subpage.
Edited by jOSEFdelavilleopenRestoring FranchiseOriginalSin/WorldOfWarcraft entry?
So a while ago, keyblade333 removed an entry about Horde characters being killed too frequently in World of Warcraft, claiming it was flamebait without giving any explanation even though it was never discussed in the ATT thread they linked? For clarity's sake, the Horde is one of the two player factions in World Of Warcraft.
Whilst long, I feel the entry works as extremely popular threads with over twelve thousands likes, do indeed mention audience frustration with Horde characters falling victim to Sudden Sequel Heel Syndrome.
Thus I propose a shorter version of the entry that'd go as following.
- As Much as later expansions like āāBurning Crusadeāā and āāMists of Pandariaāā, became infamous for having large amounts of Horde heroes fall victim to Sudden Sequel Heel and Death Syndrome, as early as Warcraft II, two Horde heroes betrayed their faction and then got killed. That said, both characters, Gulādan and Choāgall, were foreshadowed to betray the Horde in the manual and the games were much less character focused back then.
Is everyone ok with this addition?
Edited by MonsundopenCan this be reviewed, please?
So flblbl has just made a very big edit to the Transgender Useful Notes page here. I wanted to ask if other Tropers could review it and see if it's all good—I know this topic has been under a lot of discussion on the wiki as of late. I'm also a bit wary because the edit reason contains "did delete a bunch of stuff that was just weird cis scientific voyeurist crackpot theories and self-congratulatory pats in the back"
But anyways, I'm a cis person who isn't well versed in this subject AT ALL so I'd appreciate some others' input.
Edited by iamconstantineopenIs it safe to recreate the tropes page for F9? Film
Now that the film has been officially released in cinemas, I think it should be safe to recreate the tropes page for it.
openProtocol on folderizing character pages?
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic has several individual character pages that are folderized based on attributes, namely Characterization and Background, Appearance, Abilities, Relationships, and Other. It was my understanding that character pages should be folderized alphabetically, like work pages; however, both threads I consulted about this did not give me a definitive answer. Could someone clear this up for me?
openSpoilers and Content Leaks on the Miraculous Ladybug pages? Western Animation
WesternAnimation.Miraculous Ladybug notoriously suffers from a huge amount of Trailers Always Spoil (almost all of the trailers/sneak peeks have no titles, making it difficult to cite them), Content Leaks, and the show's producer/crew spoiling things much to the creator's chagrin, and since it has a large fanbase of younger viewers, spoilers/leaks are treated as common knowledge.
On its trope pages, almost none of the spoilers from (then-)upcoming episodes are cited (so who knows if they're officially released spoilers or from leaks) and spoilers from leaks are hidden ā just take a look at Characters.Miraculous Ladybug Heroes, where there are hidden folders for upcoming characters (looking at the edit history, it seems Cartoon Queen 99 is mainly responsible for this one?).
Not sure how to approach any of this. I would go with wiping out all spoilers and starting from scratch with proper citations, but I anticipate that some of the frequent tropers would just revert them back and/or continue the issue.
Edited by CommanderVisoropenCan I restore a deleted note?
Characters. With Pearl And Ruby Glowingnote fair Content Warning that it's a fic about rape so a lot of these examples deal with that kind of thing had a problem with editors adding Victim-Blaming in trope lists when it's a Useful Note. When cleaning up the page, I added a commented-out note at the top of the page saying, "Victim-Blaming is a Useful Notes page. Please do not list it as a trope."
My Dearest Dahlia just deleted the note while expanding upon some ZCE. I would prefer it stay there until people stop adding it in trope lists, as even after I removed cases of Victim Blaming in trope lists, other editors still made the same mistakes. Do I have permission to re-add the note?
Edited by mightymewtronopenPre-commented out examples.
I've sent Lover95 multiple zero-context example notifiers for not just adding zero-context examples but also adding pre-commented out zero-context examples. Apparently they didn't get the message, as they added another one to AwesomeMusic.Glee (coupled with un-correcting the indentation for the visible examples). I've sent them another zero-context example notifier and removed the pre-commented out example (I wasn't familiar with the track so I couldn't expand it) but thought perhaps I should mention it here as well.
Edited by mlsmithcaopenTroper with nattery and complain-y edits
As mentioned in the Natter Alert thread, this troper has a tendency toward making nattery and complain-y edits. The one mentioned in the linked thread was made by them, and it had to be deleted for being too much natter (and complaining, to a lesser extent). That isn't the only edit they've made that falls under this category.
- A similar edit to the one mentioned in the thread above, complaining about Cartoon Network and Teen Titans Go.
- Two edits on Dork Age pages that still have a lot of complaining even by that trope's standards.
- An edit about Miyamoto preventing Waluigi from appearing in future Mario games that makes Miyamoto out to be a lot more unreasonable.
- And this.
Their complaints have also spilled onto WMG pages, such as this one. It's not just the first person writing (which is being phased out, even on WMG, Fridge, and Headscratchers pages), it's also one of those "meta" guesses. And like other edits mentioned above, this one is complaining about a Cartoon Network show.
Edited by Shadow8411openTake a Third Option misuse?
I found this on TakeAThirdOption.Real Life:
- As detailed in this Cracked article (#2), when faced with the option of either dying of heat exhaustion or dying of heat exhaustion without any pants on, Emile Leray decided to build a motorcycle out of broken-down car parts and ride the fuck out of there like a boss.
The thing is that the two "normal" options presented are doing one thing and doing that same thing without any pants on. In my experience, most things you can do can be done without wearing pants. (There are exceptions, like wearing pants.) So, is this misuse?
openIs such a WMG edit reason valid?
In the WMG.Fate Grand Order page, a troper called wren locklear deleted a bit of WMG with the edit reason "don't add "probably not" to my WMG". Mind you, I'm not here to report this guy, his edits are fairly legit as far as I can tell, but this struck me as weird. Isn't WMG basically the weird theory debate page?
openAdaptational Context Change
Is there a reason why the examples on Adaptational Context Change are listed by the work they were adapted from, rather than the adaptation that they appear in?
Edited by nw09openTouhou PC-98 characters and fan art.
So fan art is not allowed to be used for characters pages according to policy, so how come Characters.Touhou PC 98 has a bunch of fan art used?
openCharacter Rerailment
Is Character Rerailment a trope exclusive to canon works, or can they apply to fanfiction?
openNo Japanese Terms = Required Renaming?
If TV Tropes now has a policy of no Japanese words in the name, where does that leave Stock Shōnen Hero, Maou the Demon King... and, well, a fair number of Stock Japanese Characters and Yōkai?
If this policy is to be rigidly enforced, those with Japanese words in the title will have to be renamed — like Kitsune to "Nine-Tailed Fox" or Miko to "Shrine Maiden", or something similar.
Edited by Arawn999openRemoving link to works
Is it acceptable to unilaterally remove links to a work because it doesn't have a page yet, like what recently happened on Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg?
Edited by HTDopenRegarding AnotherEpicFail
I really do not want to sound petty or pedantic or anything, but I am concerned about a TLP regular named Another Epic Fail, who recently launched Extradimensional Emergency Exit. I noticed that in the original draft, they left out a bunch of suggested examples from other users without addressing them in follow-up posts. They were strangely selective throughout the whole process, and I don't know about you, but it seems like they were deliberately ignoring suggestions for whatever strange reason, which isn't exactly courteous. It's one thing to exclude examples that don't actually qualify (which they did address in a few cases), but the rest are simply abandoned with no explanation.
I talked about this on the SpongeBob cleanup thread, but haven't gotten a response yet, so I'm trying this for now.
Super Equality 07 has been going around on the SpongeBob SquarePants recap pages removing the Canadian release date for each episode and adding the year the episode was produced. Is this necessary?
