Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Personally I've only seen it done this way on MLP pages; everything else alphabetizes it. I prefer alphabetization as it's easier to find things and prevents accidental duplication.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. The main page of Webcomic.Gunnerkrigg Court does something like this, as did Anime.Neon Genesis Evangelion until relatively recently.
Edited by TwiddlerMagic: The Gathering has it as a hard-split on its main page.
I'm not convinced that this makes it harder to find tropes. If I'm looking at four or five broad categories at most, guessing which trope goes where is honestly pretty intuitive — if anything it makes it easier to find related subjects, instead of having to hunt up and down a general trope list for them.
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, at the core of it, is this even all that different from splitting tropes into folders or pages by character or faction?
Edited by TheriocephalusI think it's not allowed and it has been discussed several times. But putting the tropes alphabetically as it should would be time consuming, and I supppose most people just wait until someone is interested enough to fix it.
Prior ATT and MLP cleanup agreed they should be arranged alphabetically. We've just been too busy to do that. Anyone who could do that is welcome to and would be appreciated.
^^^ My problem is that some tropes may fit multiple categories. For example, Friendless Background fits "Background" but could also fit under "Relationships." And aren't most tropes listed on a character page going to fit a "Characterization" category?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.^ Ideally, all of them should.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessIt was decided they should be alphabetized as opposed to split by category as: 1. It's easier for readers to find specific tropes as most don't look for tropes by category or care about categories. 2. It's easier for editors who don't have to struggle to decide which category the trope should go under (which would be even more confusing for causal readers looking for tropes).
They should be alphabetized, as others have said.
Thanks to everyone who responded. I'll set up a sandbox to alphabetize.
"My job here is done." "But you didn't do anything."
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic has several individual character pages that are folderized based on attributes, namely Characterization and Background, Appearance, Abilities, Relationships, and Other. It was my understanding that character pages should be folderized alphabetically, like work pages; however, both threads I consulted about this did not give me a definitive answer. Could someone clear this up for me?
