how do i launch a page? Reply

Write the name of the page somewhere, capitalizing each word. It should make a red link, click on that and edit the page.

If you are wanting to launch a trope, you should post it in YKTTW first, but you don't have to do that if its a page for a work, after all, Works Pages Are a Free Launch.

Any explanation for the random strings of numbers that have lately been appearing in the bottom left corner of trope pages? Reply

That is the number of characters on the page. It was put there because some pages were getting so big they crashed the server when people tried to edit them.

What should one do when one finds a newly launched trope that is already on the wiki? (Specifically, it looks like they were trying to launch something called the You Shall Not Pass Daisy Chain", but its the "I Got This" trope which is already on the page.

What is the procedure in these cases? Reply

Cut list it. There's a link on Tolls menu at the left.

What does "The Contributors" mean. I see it on the bottom of people's pages. How do I add it to my page? Reply

It's a page type. Hit the tools button, and at the bottom it has something that says "Set Page Type"

      Poptard is your page, right?

Changed page type from person or creator to contributor

I think this is an old post that swam back to the surface.

Thanks Fast Eddie. And yes, Fighteer, that's the same guy who rewrote the article to his own liking.

JustBugsMe.FanboyAndChumChum was blanked by Bgal, leaving the comment "Please only FRIDGE LOGIC examples, not things of the show that bug ya. Kaythx." He/she was quite right that the stuff there (natter and complaining) was not what JBM was for, but the page should have been deleted instead  *; is this an exception to the page-blanking autoban, or what? Reply

I see no evidence of a page blank on that article or of any edits by B Gal recently.

I have set my computer to allow cookies on TV Tropes, and it's currently showing that there are 12 of them. Is this normal, or should I be worried about potential security problems? Reply

It was a bug. No security issues. Just delete them and log back in. All should be good.

Thanks for the fix. I'm glad it was just a bug. (I had some problems with spyware recently, so I've gotten a bit paranoid.)

Could we possibly add the Chaos Walking series to Literature? Reply

Is there a page for Chaos Walking? When I do I search I get null hits. If you create a page for the work it can be added to the Literature index.

Edit to add: red link indicates there is no page. Click on that red link to create the page.

Edit to add again: see Editing Overview and Page Templates on the pull down menu under Editing for helpful hints.

      Fanks very much! :D

      Indexed on Science Fiction Index.

I'd say try a PM explaining about natter. If that doesn't take, we'll do something more.

New troper mwalk has done nothing but go to the 2012 page to complain about a character he doesn't like, to the point of making up a trope name, and blanking the page after I deleted his entries.

Edit: Aaaaand now he's getting into personal attacks. Can someone ban the jackass already? Reply

I have pm'd mwalk, posted a thread in the forum and hit the Hollers button.

      ban installed

So out of curiosity, was there some kinda bug with redirects? In the last few days, I saw a lot of edits that were just fixing redirects, usually ptitles, and others that would need the {{}} brackets to work. Reply

I'm having trouble getting a "Set Page Type" to take on JustBugsMe.Tropes. I have been trying to set it as an Index, however after I submit it goes right back to being a sub-page.

This article was created today in an effort to split JustBugsMe.Home Page, and every other page that I split has accepted the Index page type without problems. Reply

Why is This Troper a blue link? Reply

Fast Eddie did a null edit to it today, which probably borked the code he was using to keep it a red link. Whether or not this is intentional, I cannot say.

Edit: And by today, I mean yesterday. Brain fart!

Maybe its so people will click on it and realize that it is bad?

Woopsie. I fixed it back to being red. Makes it easier to spot and clean it out in an article.

Say a page for a work has multiple titles that lead to it. How does one change one of those titles to its own page? For example, Super Paper Mario redirects to the Paper Mario page. How would I make a Super Paper Mario page? Does it require moderator assistance? Reply

Alter the end of URL at the top of your browser (when on an article, not here) to SuperPaperMario?action=edit. That will allow you to remove the redirect code and continue on with the write up.

      Thank you very much!

Say, what should I do if I want to make a tip work sheet for an individual page? Reply

Not sure I get the question. Do you want to put up a bunch of instructions/bulletins about what does and doesn't work for a specific article? If so, perhaps a "Tips" namespace would be good.

Like this: In the URL of the article, change '/Main/'  * to '/Tips/', press enter and edit up a page with the tips you want to convey.

In the main article, provide a link to the Tips page.

That should work. Dethroning Moment of Suck needs some extra guild lines. Thanks.

Actually, I think something like this for most of the YMMV pages would be useful to avoid having people bring up the "It's subjective, so you can't say it's wrong" argument.

^ Seconded. [/totally useless comment mode off]

The Spoony Experiment's discussion page is again going into back-and-forths about whether or not Noah is a fan hater, and is more about personal opinion than the work itself. Can anything be done about it? Reply

Agreed. I have taken part in the discussion myself, but I honestly feel annoyed to death about this troper: Weird Raptor. He keeps on bringing the topic up and everyone else is sick of it already.

Send a PM to FastEddie, since he's the only one with clean-up powers for discussion pages last I checked it.

I remember reading through it, and it's ridiculous how much of it is about whether Spoony is a total bastard or a guy under a lot of pressure. The only thing I've done related to him is watch his hilarious SWAT 4 videos, so I don't understand why everyone is getting all pitchforks and torches. (PLEASE DO NOT BRING THE DISCUSSION HERE, I JUST MEAN I'VE GOT NO PLACE IN THE DISCUSSION)

Is the page itself in turmoil? If it's undergoing an Edit War, the mods might lock it for a bit.

Actually, someone posted this before, but I think it got eaten by the bugs of doomymcdoomdoom.

Cleared out all the squabbling. I guess handing out bans is the next step.

I brought this up earlier, glad to see it's been scrubbed.

A question about forum threads: occasionally searching turns up some topics that then say "no topic with that discussion id exists". Is there an archive or something where they can be seen, and if not, why do they keep showing up?

Usually that pops up when someone links to a thread that has been cut.

I'm looking at the Untyped pages page, and I'm assuming any page with a namespace that isn't work-based like Literature/, Fanfic/, Webcomic/, Film/, Game/ etc. is a subpage? Reply

Recap/ pages are sometimes marked as subpages, sometimes as Just For Fun pages, and sometimes as works. IMO the last one makes the most sense, but I'm not sure what the official policy is.

There are some other namespaces that are clear Just For Fun-bait, like Pantheon/.

      Okay, what about Fanfic Recommendations?

Considering they're work-specific, I'd say mark them as subpages.

For some reason, Doing It for the Art has the YMMV banner. Can someone (and by some one I mean Fast Eddie), please fix it? Reply

It's marked YMMV because when applied to works, your mileage may vary. The tag's correct, I'd say.

What dose the quality of the work have anything to do with that?

...Nothing? The trope even says the work has to be good quality. Answer this question: How do you determine if they're Doing It for the Art?

If the creator says so. How is that YMMV?

Looking through the Real Life examples, hardly any of them are said by the authors themselves. They're all fan opinions.

Those would be non examples. Its not YMMV at all.

You want to cut the Real Life examples, then? Fine, start a TRS thread.

No I don't. Real Life for that is when creators are not in it for the money. It can apply to bad works like The Last Airbender and North.
