Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:

Ask the Tropers:
openHow would video examples from theater sources work?
A very vague question. I'd presume no bootleg examples since those are illegal. What about plays that are in the public domain? Would we be able to upload any legally-uploaded performance?
openOn-Page Examples Only
I have three questions. Because of the way they're structured, you can only answer two.
1) Do you guys have a list of tropes that only allow on-page examples?
2) If so, where can I find it?
3) If not, then why don't you have one?

open Active Crowner for Ron the Death Eater
There is currently an active crowner in the TRS thread for Ron the Death Eater/Draco in Leather Pants. Feel free to vote on the crowner for determining what to do with the trope.
This is only an announcement. Please don't reply to this query; keep the discussion in TRS.
openUndoing edits without discussion
I originally raised this on the Moments clean-up thread, but it was suggested I flag it in ATT as well. The full clean-up thread post is here.
The summary for ATT purposes is this:
The troper Bellaboo2 has added back two Tear Jerker entries (removed from YMMV.RWBY Chibi), with original wording intact. The edit reason is long, but basically makes it clear that:
- They're aware of the Moments clean-up thread and have read the reasons for the removal (since they're twisting one of the reasons).
- They have zero intention of engaging in a discussion about it.
- They seem to be confused about the difference between a summary of a scene and a summary of an audience reaction to a scene.
- They can't be bothered to rewrite the entries as legitimate audience reactions to get them added back to the page in a legitimate way... despite being willing to write audience reactions into the edit reason itself. This baffles me: if you're making the effort to write a legitimate audience reaction, why not do it to the entry itself instead of the edit reason?
Edited to add a link to the YMMV page the edit occurred on.
Edited by WyldchyldopenGender Is No Object
Is Gender Is No Object just for military settings, or societies in general? In my writing, the cultures have no gender construct - no gendered language, no gendered clothing, no separate roles for men and women in society... but the stories don't involve anything military. Where does that fit?
open Is this Tropeable?
Would Zippo Lighter be a worthy trope? By this I'm referring to how often Zippo Lighters show up in film and television, when you likely don't really see them used that often in Real Life. We already have Reuseable Lighter Toss, where Zippo lighters figure heavily, but I'm referring to them just being used by characters, without the lighter toss involved. The Winchester brothers use them so often in Supernatural you'd think Zippo sponsored the show, in Platoon practically all the characters use them. Bunny even uses one to light a thatched hut on fire, then lights his cigarette with it. The distinctive click of the cover being opened and closed is iconic. I recall more than one movie when the hero held it over a smoke detector to trigger the alarm and the sprinklers.

Edited by Traveler123openSimilar to strike function
Is there something similar to the strike function in the forums that can be used on regular pages? Basically, I'm making a Sandbox for a Complete Monster project and need a way to cross things off of a list without outright deleting them or make them disappear. Is there something similar to the strike function, or at least a decent substitute even if it's not an outright strike?
openMaking a Page for Your Own Fanfiction
This may be a strange question, but is it considered poor etiquette to make a page for your own fanfiction? Is it better to wait for someone else to decide to do that once a work gets popular enough? Or is this completely off-base and it's completely fine to do so?
openComplaining on The Simpsons Recap page
The recap page The Simpsons S18E18 "The Boys of Bummer" has a big complaining problem. A while ago I noticed that a troper named Noob Master added a bunch of edits complaining about the character Joe LaBoot, calling him evil. I removed those entries or moved them under tropes that were more appropriate (i.e. Even Evil Has Standards to Everyone Has Standards). Recently, Noob Master edited the page again and undid some of my edits. They re-added Evil All Along and moved the Everyone Has Standards back to Even Evil Has Standards. They also moved Hypocritical Humor back under Hypocrite.
openLeaked dub
Sorry if you see some broken english
So, checking the characters page for Giorno Giovanna, I saw that he has a accredited voice actor in the latin spanish dub. After a quick search, I found out that Netflix Japan uploaded the first 4 episodes dubbed in spanish. Pretty sure it was a mistake.
So, my question is: Giorno should have a accredited voice actor in the latin american dubbing despite the fact that Netflix Latin America has not officially announced it?
If so, I think that the rest of the team Bucciarati should also have the correspondent voice actors.
openCalling for help on new works page Web Original
Just wanted to make sure - would making a new thread in the New Media forum be the appropriate method of calling on Tropers for help in filling out a new page? The page in question is ColeyDoesThings - I've made a bare-bones with real basic info and like four tropes in the list as well as indexed it to Web Video.
EDIT: Related question - some clips from her videos are already on TVT as being video examples of various tropes, though I don't remember off the top of my head which tropes. I did not upload them — is there a way to retroactively link the source to the new works page?
Edited by megarockmanopenStock Parody Jokes
I think Stock Parody Jokes may need a cleanup. Some of them are just making comments about the quality of a work (such as "the Super Mario Bros movie is bad" or "the later SpongeBob seasons are just mean-spirited grossout") instead of specific kinds of jokes parodies do.
Also, some of the examples are getting redundant (nearly every work with anthropomorphic animals has a "the show is furry bait" example), and there's even an example related not to the work, but to the author ("HP Lovecraft was racist" is listed under the Cthulhu Mythos in the Literature page, even though that's a joke about Lovecraft himself, not the Cthulhu Mythos).
openWhy is the Formatting not working how I want it to Western Animation
I'm trying to Format a TV TROPES Page that already exists; in the Shout-Out Page of the Fanfiction "Heroes never die, it's Hero Time", and Add a Reference made in the 50th chapter; about Hop Pop appearing in that chapter. . . I'm TRYING To Link to Western Animation/Amphibia; But When I Try to do the formatting of putting it in Double Brackets, and Putting the Name Hop Pop, and trying to get the hyperlink to go to the Western Animation/Amphibia page; The Double Brackets show up when they're NOT supposed to and Show Western Animation/Amphibia when I'm trying to get it to link to "Hop Pop";
Why is this happening, and How can I get the formatting to work the way it's supposed to; I've done it several times before, and it's worked in previous attempts, but for SOME Reason, It's NOT being co-operative today!
Here's the problem and how I'm getting it; I Put it in like this: [[Western Animation/Amphibia Hop Pop]].
can someone please help me?
Edited by TheLampshadeHangermanopenDo we have/need a cleanup for Shipping Goggles in entries?
I was cleaning up The Nostalgia Critic and I noticed a lot of entries that are biased in favor of certain, possibly unintentional shipping interpretations. I'm sure other pages are not immune to this, especially those works that are more focused on shipping.
I was wondering if we could use a cleanup for entries affected by Shipping Goggles, but it may be difficult as it requires the perspective of many people who know the works in question and don't have a shipping bias (or at least can put it aside).

Edited by mightymewtronopenPronunciation of "Bowdler"
Bowdlerise claims that the last name of Thomas Bowdler, who this trope is named after, is pronounced "bao-dler." But the very first video example pronounces it "boh-dler." Which is it?
openTroper unilaterally changing creator's pronouns
ngh93 recently changed the pronouns on Eddie Izzard's page from female ones, which Eddie prefers and Wikipedia uses, to male ones, leaving a rude edit reason behind. I messaged them about it, and they insisted that the male pronouns were "correct", which really doesn't seem to be the case.
openEditor removed voice actor names from work description -- is this normal practice?
Troper J Briskin just went through one of the pages I watch and removed all the main voice actor names from the film's opening description. Is this sort of thing standard practice?
Thanks!
openWas the Gasoline Dousing trope fun to make?
I'm wondering about the trope we've made about 5 months ago.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GasolineDousing
And I'm wondering if everyone involved had a good time making it.
There seems to be some contested entries on YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 9 E 25 The Ending Of The End Part 2 concerning Cozy Glow and people feeling sorry for her solely because she's a child, if an evil child. Are there any posts/general fandom consensus to back the statements up or is it just a few people? The character has had similar tropes on other FIM YMMV pages but I'm unsure how accurate those are.
