I don't know the exact time gap between the end of FIM, but dialogue in some episodes implies it was only a few hundred years ago rather than millennia. Whilst the G4 era is described as "Ancient Equestria" in G5, this could just be a case of Sci Fi Writers have no sense of scale.

* HarsherInHindsight: The pony races finally mending their bond at the end of the episode is heartwarming...only for the events of ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyANewGeneration'' to completely render all that meaningless with all of the pony races showing FantasticRacism towards each other once again, albeit thousands of years down the line.
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: Twilight's speech about "others who will continue our mission after we are gone." becomes this in ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyANewGeneration'' where thousands of years in the future we meet Sunny Starscout who along with her new friends do just that, in spite of the FantasticRacism plaguing Equestria at the time.

Misuse. Characters have to be in the work/episode to be underutilized as opposed to not being there to waste.

** The big epic grand finale and no one thought to call in Sunset Shimmer and the Equestria Girls to help? Especially disappointing as the Equestria Girls series never got a finale of its own.

* HilariousInHindsight: It was already getting compared to ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' well before release due to being the GrandFinale for the long-running series. Then the FinalBattle had the Mane 6 face off against the LegionOfDoom in the first half like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor against Thanos while the second half had [[AvengersAssemble the vast majority of the Mane Six's allies coming to their aid]] almost exactly like the heroes arriving to help Cap scene. The hilarious part is [[https://twitter.com/TheBiggestJim/status/1183443721846587393 the finale was planned]] [[AnimationLeadTime 8 months before]] ''Endgame''.

Now requires official confirmation it was in response to complaints.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Chancellor Neighsay’s HeelFaceTurn was criticized by many for feeling too underwhelming and not very believable considering his [[FantasticRacism rather negative stance on the many different creatures]]. This episode eased many of the fans opinions on him as it showcases Neighsay as one of the many returning ponies and creatures leading the charge to help Twilight and her friends in their final battle. The same can be said for seeing the Flim-Flam brothers during the final fight, who’ve gotten heat from a sizable portion of the fanbase who felt they should’ve gotten some kind of redemption within the series, with this showing that even if they'll always be con ponies, they'll also [[HiddenHeartOfGold always help out when it really matters.]]
** After years of mostly being out of the Friendship blasts, Spike gets joined alongside the rest of the Mane Six and the representatives of the Elements.

Trope misuse. The mystery of Cozy Glow's past was never introduced as a plot point. This entry is just a complaint of the plot nothing going the fans' way.

** We never find out about Cozy Glow's backstory, such as why a child like her is so power hungry and evil.

* FourthWallMyopia: The characters didn't watch "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS9E8Frenemies Frenemies]]" and therefore don't see the trio as unintentionally sympathetic but more of as complete and utter AssholeVictims, who have constantly tried to conquer Equestria, harm them and those they care for and don't even have the potential for redemption, so it makes more sense why they would punish them in such a manner.

The trope is still in effect here regardless.

This does not hold up when you consider Discord showed zero sympathetic qualities in his debut but decided to give him a chance anyway.

* DracoInLeatherPants: All three of the villains received this status in spades for their punishment at the end of the episode.
** Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow being [[TakenForGranite turned to stone]] as punishments caused backlash by defenders, saying that they didn't deserve such a punishment due to being forced by Discord as Grogar to commit said actions, and they weren't being given a chance by the heroes to turn over a new leaf throughout the episode and the previous one. What is largely ignored is the fact that what the villains did to Equestria was what they've ''always'' wanted to do ever since they appeared in the show, they were mainly forced by Discord to work together as a team instead of individuals to make their plans succeed, and they have stated and shown more than once that they are not interested in friendship or reforming themselves like when Chrysalis turned down Starlight's offer of reformation at the end of ''[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS6E26ToWhereAndBackAgainPart2 To Where and Back Again.]]'' And on the subject of the villains' punishments, they not only tried to murder the Mane Six and the other heroes, but also ''destroy everything that made Equestria what it was'' which included dividing the three pony tribes against one and other, which as a result almost made everything that the Mane Six accomplished in the entire series be AllForNothing. And considering that they almost came close with succeeding at destroying Equestria and the heroes and even presumably even creating a forever bad memory that the population of Equestria won't be forgetting for a long time, imprisoning the villains in stone would be for the best to prevent a tragedy like that from happening again.
** Cozy Glow was hit with this the hardest out of the three villains. Defenders felt she did not deserve the same fate as Tirek and Chrysalis, due to simply being a child and saying she could have been given a lesser sentence to serve her time, and [[RonTheDeathEater demonizing Celestia, Luna, and Discord]] for doing it to her. This is despite the fact that Cozy was [[BeyondRedemption well aware]] of what she was doing the entire time, and her actions were still as bad as Tirek and Chrysalis since her actions to drain the magic in Equestria and claim it as her own was kind of the same plan as Tirek's. She has even [[CardCarryingVillain proudly called herself a villain]] and shows no remorse for any of her actions, and in fact ''actively enjoys it.''

Cleanup. Agree with fans unfairly ignoring such but RTDE is about trends in fan work exaggerating/vilifying which isn't the case as fans complained but refused to let this change their fanon on him.

* RonTheDeathEater: Discord has often been considered just as bad if not worse than the Trio, for his actions as Grogar and subsequently turning the trio into stone. Discord did what he did for the sake of trying to help his friends, have the confidence to rule Equestria. While the trio were actually trying to conquer Equestria for their selfish ends. Discord had the mindset that ultimately everything would turn out fine. He showed remorse for his actions unlike the Trio and took action to try to make up for it, putting himself in harms way in the process. He didn’t suggest turning them to stone until after it was already suggested to punish them and Chrysalis stated that they would never change. Some even think he actually became a villain again and was just making up that he was well intentioned so that he wouldn’t be punished despite the fact that, if this was the case he wouldn’t have given back Princess Celestia and Luna their magic and bowed to Twilight after getting his magic back.

I'm not saying whether discord should have been punished or if he was too easily forgiven. I'm just adding this entry as their is a difference between arguing that and downright saying he is just as bad as them in s9. Also as a addition to the Draco in Leather Pants segment on the page.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Lyra and Bon Bon got engaged in the previous episode, but are shown separated in this two-parter, sticking with their respective races. By contrast, Unicorn Sugar Belle sticks with her new husband Big Mac among the Earth Ponies. Did Lyra and Bon Bon buy into the rumors that badly, or did each of them figure the other was safer sticking with their own kind than being harassed by the other's race and insist on it? If it's the latter, the reason Big Mac didn't insist that of Sugar Belle could be because he knows he could easily take on anyone that tried to give his new wife grief. It would also explain why we see the CMC separated.
