Maybe. I know some plays are broadcast and can be watched online.

The thing with public domain plays is that while Shakespeare's Hamlet is in the public domain, a specific performance most likely isn't. For example if Generic London Theatre puts on a performance of Hamlet, then the GLT would own the copyright to that specific performance.

We'll just call them "slime tutorials" and hope nobody looks too closely.

Joking aside, I think if the production consented to an accessible filmed version — whether it's a small local production or a big Broadway one like Hamilton on Disney+ — then we can probably treat said recording as if it were a movie and use clips accordingly. But it's unlikely that a bootleg would even have good enough quality to be used as a video example anyway.
