Better, though a short sentence about the specifics of how she treats him would be good.

I went though the entries and altered them. Tell me what you think.

  • Adaptation Displacement: If you ask anyone who isn't a fan of the games (or at least Nintendo-savvy to a minimal extent) what they know about Pokémon, they will very likely answer with anime-exclusive information (i.e. the trainers being 10 years old, "Aim for the Horn", the Pokémon Theme or Pokérap, Pokémon Speak, etc.).

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy:
    • Though disliked by her fans due to the perception of ruining Misty's character, Togepi's farewell to Misty was still rather depressing and heartwarming to them.
    • Kenny's send-off also made some people who were less than impressed with his antagonismsympathetic toward him.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Misty's acquisition of Togepi allowed her to tame her earlier feistiness and matured her into someone more nurturing, instead of it being gone entirely.
    • Misty isn't a Faux Action Girl, She just didn't have as many opportunities to show her skills due to having a poorly defined goal and Ash being the main character.
    • Ritchie as the physical representation of Ash's potential when not weighed down by his negative attributes and the Status Quo Is God constraints of a cartoon Long Runner is a popular interpretation of him.
    • Ash himself is a "what-not-to-do" avatar for younger Pokémon fans for much of the series until Unova or Kalos.
    • Charizard sees Ash as unworthy to lend his strength, explaining why we refused to listen to Ash unless properly motivated before Character Development kicked in for Charizard.
    • Burgundy's interpretation of Cilan may not just be her imagination, as we see him in battle start toying with her needlessly and actually smiling in an sinister fashion.
    • Something about Reggie making Paul's Electabuzz afraid of him is popular for interpretation.
    • Johanna (Dawn's mom) is often thought of as a pageant mom, conditioning Dawn into contests and making her succeed so she can live through her achievements.
    • Since not much is known about Trip, it's become a fandom thing to make Trip have hidden depths that were never touched on in the anime. The most common interpretation is that Trip is secretly Cute and Psycho and is obsessed with the occult (given he has two ghost Pokémon in his party). Additionally, there are speculations that Trip actually isn't that good with battling and the reason he loses in the first round of most tournaments because he's either letting his ego get to him or he honestly is that weak and given he loses to Ash in the first round of the Unova League makes it seem like Trip isn't up to snuff like the other rivals.
    • Serena tends to be Flanderized into a Clingy Jealous Girl bordering on Yandere.

I though your rewrite of Burgundy was sufficient so I left it out.

[up]x3 Still want the Reggie one expanded because it's borderline Zero-Context. Otherwise [tup]

[up]x2 and [up] If Very Melon thinks it's sufficient I won't protest.

  • The reason Paul's Electabuzz is afraid of Reggie is never explored in the anime proper, so it became a source of fandom speculation.

I was expecting you to. :^)

New slate. Assume proper example indentation will be done as part of the edits from now one.

  • Americans Hate Tingle:
    • After the initial Pokémon craze and the rise of the Periphery Demographic on the Internet, one can easily say that the anime is a more integral and widely-marketed part of the Pokémon franchise in Japan than in the West, where a much larger portion of the marketing and fanbase is based on the games.note  This trope may be due to Values Dissonance as well as 4Kids Entertainment's dubbing practices; while Western fans constantly accuse Pokémon of adhering to the Animation Age Ghetto, its spectrum of appeal in Japan is more unclear to Westerners, with some of its current creative staff being vocal about writing for a family audience. This can be interpreted any number of ways. Not sure. It's definitely more popular in Japan but the hate isn't as bad as the entry makes it out to be (it's often just apathy or wishing the writing was better).
    • Team Rocket's beloved in their native Japan among fans for being kooky, funny, and unique individuals. In the West, they're more likely to be seen by fans as annoying time-wasters, mainly in the later seasons when Flanderization seeped in. Conversely, their serious incarnations in Black and White are more popular in the Western fandom, while mostly disliked in the Japanese ones. I've seen quite a few people on other sites who think the Team Rocket Trio are awesome, if a bit overstaying their welcome after all of these years. Need some second opinions.
    • Misty's Togepi is disliked by many American fans due to him contributing nothing to the group and being the occasional load. Meanwhile in Japan, he's still well-regarded to nostalgic fans. Keep with a slight expansion explaining how it's the load.
    • Virgil also has notable hate in America: partly for for being the essence of Merchandise-Driven, partly for being bland and undeveloped, and partly for being The Unfought. He had all of Eevee's evolutions (to date) and an Eevee itself, for the sake of making him "unique" as a trainer, spontaneously got to be in the tournament (by coincidentally getting all the badges), had almost no interaction with the main cast (at least Cameron shared tons of scenes with Ash), had zero build-up (his introductory episode was the episode right before the tournament started), and wins the tournament when his Eevee knocked out a Druddigon with a rather overpowered move. Meanwhile in Japan, he is an Ensemble Dark Horse who gets copious amounts of fanart and is even very frequently shipped with Bianca. Keep. The entry might need to be shortened a tiny bit, but that's just me.
    • Manaphy from Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea gets disliked by many American fans, due to it having tantrums without May so often that it constantly comes off as whiny. But in Japan? It has beaten fan favorites like Celebi, Jirachi, Shaymin, and Victini, since it was called "The Prince of The Sea" as 28th place in Pixiv's (Japan only) popularity poll. Keep.
    • Iris and Cilan from the Black & White series are considered highly divisive characters in the West. In Japan, they were very popular with the core 5 million-some audience for the show, so much so that ratings went from 3.6 for BW's finale to 5.5 for Cilan's post-series special, and Iris' special scored a 5.6 (virtually the same viewers) despite airing five months later. Not sure due to the use of "divisive".
  • Animation Age Ghetto:
  • Angst Dissonance:
    • Manaphy from Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea seems to have very good reasons why it throws tantrums a lot: This entire thing is a mess and should be cut.
      • Not only it's imprinted to May to begin with.
      • It doesn't trust anyone but Ash after it uses Heart Swap on Ash and Jackie.
      • But it doesn't stop most American fans from criticizing Manaphy for being too whiny without May, except Ash, after it uses Heart Swap on Ash and Jackie.
    • Red Genesect fighting New Mewtwo is justified as Red Genesect wants New Mewtwo dead. However, many American fans took it as a wasted opportunity for peace. What???

Also changed the hidden edit note to direct people here for any edits. Having more than 3 opinions is probably a good idea.

Alteration to the first entry. Anything that wasn't already determined a Keep by you was cut.

  • Americans Hate Tingle:
    • Misty's Togepi is disliked by many American fans due to him contributing nothing to the group and being the occasional load due to never being used in a real battle. Meanwhile in Japan, he's still well-regarded to nostalgic fans.

______________________________________________________________

For Animation Age Ghetto just cut the first sentence and the entire second bullet entry aversion.

Cut the entire Angst Dissonance entry.

Animation Age Ghetto: While the franchise as a whole has developed a diverse fanbase over time, the writers create the anime solely to tailor to kids. They often neglect elements that would appeal to older fans such as strong story, characters, and continuity, and often use Recycled Scripts due to the Fleeting Demographic Rule.

That's all the matters to the entry, honestly.

Did the stuff. New slate for the remaining A's.

  • Anti-Climax Boss: Isn't this Video/Tabletop Games only? If so cut the entire section, but I'll do the notes anyway assuming it can be kept.
    • Gary for the Kanto league due his early loss on the rock-field and ending up as The Unfought for Ashnote . Thankfully, the Johto league rival-match made up for it...unless you're one of those people who thought Charizard and Snorlax stole all the glory from the rest of Ash's team in this battle. Remove for shoehorn. He's never fought for the specific instance brought up.
    • Kenny for the Sinnoh Grand Festival. He doesn't make it past the starting Appeal Round! Same.
    • Barry for the Sinnoh League. He was The Unfought for Ash (excluding their regular battles) and lost 3 to 0 in his league-battle against Paul. Same.
    • Trip in the Unova League. He gets knocked out by Ash in a 1 vs 1 preliminary match! Keep, but expand about how long the rivalry lasted or something.
    • Bianca for never having a "proper" final fight. Remove for shoehorn.
  • Arc Fatigue:
    • Johtonote  and Sinnoh were too long and took forever to resolve their respective conflicts (each and every one of them). Keep, but maybe separate the two regions into their own bullets. Definitely remove the note and just add the info into the example proper.
    • Inverted by Kanto (for being comparatively rushed). Is an inversion necessary? If not then cut.
    • Outright averted with the Orange Islands, Hoenn, the Battle Frontier and Unova. Aversion isn't necessary, probably cut.
    • The Decolore Islands, mainly due to it being a Filler Arc and not having a goal besides bringing Ash home. Whereas most of Ash's returns home took about one or two episodes, it took twenty. Keep I think.
    • XY the time between the 2nd and 4th Badges, due to a lot of padding and a lack of progress for everyone's teams; then averted with a lot of progress within 15 episodes. Aversion after semicolon is confusing me. It either applies or it doesn't.
  • Author's Saving Throw: The Mega Evolution specials. Don't like Ash and Pikachu being shoved in your face every episode? Have a new, more serious teen protagonist and his Mega Evolving Charizard instead. It helps that the specials seem to be developing a Team Flare subplot, with the hero himself unwittingly helping along their plans - the kind of plot twist you'd rarely expect from the Pokémon anime. Um... shoehorn maybe? I don't know.
  • Awesome Ego: The GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK meme exists for a reason. Keep but needs better context.
  • Awesome Music: Has its own page. Fine as is.

[up] I can expand on Gary's ego entry.

  • Gary, Who during Kanto and Jhoto was always one step ahead of Ash (He had 10 badges, and none of them included the Viridian Badge meaning that he took on 3 more Gyms than Ash). He and Ash were also the only 2 trainers of those that started the same tie that even got as far as they did. The meme exists for a reason folks.

That's as much as I can gleam from the Bulbapedia page. Make of that what you will.

I remember something about Anti-Climax Boss being restricted to video games. The proper trope for this is Anti-Climax. That all being said I agree that most of the examples under Anti-Climax Boss are shoehorned in, so I rewrote the example as so, while cutting the rest:

  • Anti-Climax: Trip in the Unova League. He gets knocked out by Ash in a 1 vs 1 preliminary match!

Rest of my rewrites.

  • Arc Fatigue:
    • Johto was a huge expansion of the anime after it began; Kanto and the Orange Islands took one season apiece, while Johto took three.
    • Sinnoh was too long and took forever to resolve its respective conflicts (each and every one of them).
    • The Decolore Islands, mainly due to it being a Filler Arc and not having a goal besides bringing Ash home. Whereas most of Ash's returns home took about one or two episodes, it took twenty.
    • XY the time between the 2nd and 4th Badges, due to a lot of padding and a lack of progress for everyone's teams.

Cut Author's Saving Throw for shoehorning.

I personally prefer these.

  • Anti-Climax Boss: Trip in the Unova League. Despite being built up as Ash's rival throughout Black & White, Trip loses to him in a 1v1 preliminary match.
  • Arc Fatigue
    • Johto was a huge expansion of the original run, going on for 3 seasons instead of Kanto's 1. It also had a large amount of filler between Gym matches and a Filler Arc in the Whirl Islands.
    • Sinnoh had a total of 4 seasons with nearly 200 episodes. A sparse amount of episodes in the first 3 were devoted to the Team Galatic plot, on top of having filler between Gym matches and Contests.
    • After the league and Episode N in Black and White were finished, there's a Filler Arc were Ash and co. visit the Decolore Islands. Unlike the Orange Islands it's basically a vacation for the cast because there's no league to participate in, making it feel like a waste of time.
    • In XY the time between the 2nd and 4th Gym battles is filled with a lot of Filler and no progress on the character's teams, making it feel dragged out.

I'll do Awesome Ego later.

Awesome Ego: Gary is incredibly smug about his abilities and knowledge as a trainer during the original series, but the way the show portrays him is so over-the-top it's hard to not enjoy it. Even though he's only a 10-year-old he has his own car, a group of cheerleaders that always follow him around, and he was able to get 10 badges to qualify for the Indigo Plateau even though only 8 were required. This lead to several memes such as GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK to declare how awesome he is.
