Ai sai this is a pretty non-indicative name for this trope.
The title could be re-used for a trope about missed opportunities in general, with "villain trying to solve problems with violence" as a subtrope.
I will consume not only your flesh, but your very soul. Can this be locked? Is there more to discuss?

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I went in and purged a bunch of examples, but don't have the time to clean up the wicks on works pages.
The examples probably could use some more paring down, but I felt on less firm ground with deleting some of the given examples.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpI tried my hand at cleaning up the rest of the wicks. If someone wants to check my work a bit here, that might be a good idea though.
Anyway, there may be a good case for renaming this trope. First, it is a Stock Phrase title. Second, the cleanup showed that the trope had been being misused quite a bit (more than 220 wicks out of about 375 were deleted because of misuse for fan speculation and the like).
That being the case, there is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here.

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffSorry about that, I did not keep the greatest record of specific instances of misuse since the earlier discussion just suggested we do a cleanup. If this listing is inadequate, I can try to add more details though.
Anyway, from what I can tell, there are about 155 correct uses of the trope (i.e., in-universe examples). Here is a small sampling of the misuse I found*.
Misuse for fan speculation
- Headscratchers.Yu-Gi-Oh R

Misuse for speculation about real life/historical events
- Main.World War One (Speculating about how historical events could have happened differently)
- Main. What Could Have Been (Another example about real life events)
- CowboyBebopAtHisComputer.Western Animation (Review would have been different if the reviewer looked at the back cover of a movie case)
- Main. The Tonight Show (Another real life events example)
- Characters.Tekken6 (Talking about how a fandom could have done things differently)
Other Misuse
- MagicTheGathering. The Thran (Potholing of the phrase "There was never any actual conflict.")
- Series. The Outer Limits (Misuse for Poor Communication Kills)
In general, uses of We Could Have Avoided All This were accompanied by fan speculation, a good portion of which seemed to encourage natter as people debated what would have happened.
I wonder if a simple rename to "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot or Could Have All Been Avoided Plot might work. To be honest, I do not really know what a good replacement name would look like.

Crown Description:
Rename We Could Have Avoided All This?- Current name resembles a line of dialogue / Stock Phrase.
- Estimated 50% misuse: In-universe trope being potholed for fan/editor speculation and Natter.
I'm getting a vibe that this is being potholed for fan speculation (e.g: "the story's central conflict could have been avoided if only Y happened instead"), which isn't what the trope is about. This trope is more that it gets pointed out to them that We Could Have Avoided All This.
