The Titans meet a young but powerful girl named Terra, who has much potential as a Titan. However, Slade appears to have plans for her as well.

Tropes:

  • Badass Adorable: Terra is tiny, has big Puppy-Dog Eyes eyes, and can crush a giant scorpion without blinking an eye.
  • Big Eater: Terra. She also eats Starfire's Cordon Bleugh Chef fungus and asks for seconds.
  • Break Them by Talking: What Slade does to Terra during their battle.
  • Cooldown Hug: Beast Boy gives one to Terra as she has a Freak Out, which stops a massive cave-in.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Terra, as her performance on the obstacle course shows. She beats Cyborg's time by thirty seconds.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: As her name implies, Terra can manipulate earth, and is startlingly good at it. Problem is, she can't completely control her powers.
  • Downer Ending: Just as Terra is willing to stay at Titans Tower, she blames Beast Boy for betraying her, and runs off, ostensibly towards Slade.
  • Dramatic Drop: When Terra is initiated with the Teen Titans she receives her own communicator. But then Robin tells her that he knows that she has trouble controlling her powers, causing her to drop the device on the floor before rounding on Beast Boy.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Terra can not only eat Starfire's alien cooking without a problem, but also asks for seconds!
  • Fatal Flaw: Terra's is her tendency to run when a situation gets bad. The episode ends with her running off to find Slade after assuming Beast Boy broke his promise and told the other Titans about her Power Incontinence.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • At the beginning, Slade warns the Titans not to get too attached to Terra because he saw her first. Later on, he reveals to Terra that he's been watching her and her struggles for quite some time.
    • As the Titans go to the Tower after meeting Terra at the rocky canyon, the section where they once stood crumbles apart, as a subtle indication of what Terra will do to them in the climax.
  • Implausible Deniability: Terra in thinking she could keep her Power Incontinence a secret. Beast Boy figures it out after a few minutes, and Robin makes a plausible deduction.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Terra goes to face Slade by herself, with no back up. This allows him to incapacitate her and offer her training.
  • Love at First Sight: Beast Boy gets Wingding Eyes on seeing Terra for the first time.
  • Mugging the Monster:
    • The giant scorpion attacking Terra.
    • Also, Terra attacking Slade.
  • Open Secret: Terra makes Beast Boy swear not to tell Robin or the others her Dark Secret, but pretty much everyone figured it out after just spending a little time with her. Unfortunately, Robin didn't know she didn't realize this...
  • Overly Narrow Superlative: Cyborg managed to clear the obstacle course in 2 minutes and 17 seconds, and exclaims its a new record. Raven, ever the snarker, reminds him he's the first to use the course.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Robin deduces Terra's secret on his own and brings it up in front of her. Unfortunately this causes her to think that Beast Boy betrayed her and she leaves the team before either Beast Boy or Robin could explain.
  • Power Incontinence: Terra can't control her powers. She also can cause earthquakes, landslides and avalanches if she's not careful.
  • Scary Scorpions: Terra's introduction have her being pursued by a giant scorpion monster. The Titans arrive with the intent of helping her, but then Terra reveals her geokinesis powers and crushes said scorpion.
  • Serious Business: Beast Boy assures Terra that it isn't a big deal that she can't control her powers. Terra... disagrees.
  • Ship Tease: A bit, between Beast Boy and Terra.
  • Status Quo Is God: We already know Terra won't become an official Teen Titan since she's not in the credits.
  • Stealth Pun: Beast Boy telling Terra she rocks after completing the obstacle course.
  • Walking the Earth: Terra has been doing this for some time. The Titans decide to offer her a home.
  • Wham Line: Robin reveals "We know you can't control your powers." This ends up causing Terra to run off and Beast Boy to become depressed.
  • The Worf Effect: Slade manages to incapacitate Terra in a few minutes, with just his bare hands.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Slade claims this about Terra, and the Titans note it's not healthy for a teenager to be constantly traveling.
