Been toying with this idea for a while. Basically two superhero worlds/universes/whatever you wanna call it intersect. The two worlds are on different sides of the Sliding Scale of Cynicism vs. Idealism.

World-C's heroes are floundering against a tide of (lacking a better term) human assholeishness.

World-I's heroes are brought in by an All-Powerful Bystander who never presents himself, in order to give the heroes from world-C a sort of pep-talk, variously reminding them why they fight, giving them a bit of perspective, or even just lending a helping hand

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!

Sure. What you're trying for I think is some combination of the Lord Of The Rings, obviously, and Men In Black in that the Tolkian characters are trying to adapt to a modern human world much the same as aliens are. I'd certainly be interested in seeing what type of spin or zest you add to a story that is familiar but doesn't fall into It's Been Done territory.

I'd also be interested to see what influence you would use for the setting, whether it be some post modern future with fantasy and magic like Final Fantasy VII or if you might adopt the approach of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that goes for a more real world approach that just so happens to have vampires, demons, magic and the like. There's potential there, you have the idea in your head now execute it and show us this vision you have.

Imagine a universe where there are all sorts of different alien species and humanoids living on all sorts of different planets. Some criminals try to leave for other planets to escape punishment, and that's where interplanetary immigration comes in: to stop fugitives from planet hopping. One girl was wronged by someone who has escaped their homeworld and tries to join immigration enforcement to track them down and make sure they get their punishment.

A nation wracked by famine and bad weather, attacks a city and conquers it. Emboldened, and led by a very ambitious man, they begin a campaign of conquest, pushing on to prove their greatness. It's essentially about their push, and the little human things that get them and keep them going.

I got this idea from a weird dream where I was watching a sitcom with this premise [lol]:

Announcer: Ever since the 4th of May, Johnson was now cursed to go through a repeating time-loop on the fourth of every month, watch as he goes on misadventures all while still in his bed.

@Morwen, that sounds really cool. However, I would change the MacGuffin from a ring to something else. It would make it too much like Tolkien. Alternatively, you could make it be that they directly came from Middle Earth to our world.

""WARNING: Following premise is very weird. People have tried to cover the ears of their young ones to protect them from the sheer insanity of it all.""

The book I'm doing is called the Storm Drain Alligator and the Secret of the Universe. My concept is somewhat... bizarre. The basic concept is a talking alligator on a mission from God trying to find the Secret of the Universe. It is supposed to be a "comedy", book, if books could be comedies in the first place. It would be somewhat like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or Discworld (never read them, but I know that they parody heroic fantasy) but for Urban Fantasy tropes. It is NOT supposed to be taken seriously. The book is also strongly politically incorrect (I don’t mean it most of the time, it’s almost always a joke) and has South-Park-like humor, so there's plenty of Black Comedy.

The world that they live in is in the aftermath of a broken masquerade, since people talking about fantastical things openly in public would eventually break it. In response, scientists went to developing magic in weapons for enchantment. Some people can use magic, but it quickly corrupts them and make them become at best extremely grumpy and at worst downright evil douschebags. Magic is also applied to weapons to make them enchanted, although this is a very frowned-upon process because Magic in this universe obviously comes from a somewhat incompetent Satan and is fueled by getting the souls of the workers, most of which are refugees from supernatural threats or completely destitute. (The portrayal of Magic is not played for laughs at all.)

When the supernatural world was discovered, they also discovered the Troll Troll Gods, who constantly try to break the sanity of humanity by Poking The Poodle. Lost your chapstick? They need it for their chapstick thrones. Did that green light change before you drove up? They're trying to alter the traffic routes. Somebody uses a noobtube in Modern Warfare? They're going to have to try harder to push us all into insanity! There is also a lot of conflict going on in New England, where rejected monsters of the week have been living and decided to go on a rampage and slaughter civilians. [[Deconstruction Seeing that most supernatural threats]] were handled by children, the government issued a special branch of the military be created to stop this threat in New England and any other threats throughout the country. The rest of the military is off trying to slow down the Troll Gods using their full power, leaving only those groups to stop people from Supernatural threats.

The main character in the book is a talking alligator named the Storm Drain Alligator. He is a Talking Animal that speaks in a Cajun accent, so he simply walks on four feet and mutilates deer like any other alligator, but he just happens to have the ability to talk. An alligator turned into a Funny Animal is just... wrong. It should never happen. The book even calls it "an abomination against the laws of gravity and nature." He is a Type IV/Type V antihero that swears a lot with a strong hatred of Communists, manatees, yankees, and other various things. He can also shoot lasers from his eyes and breathe fire because he got mutated by an irradiated Chinese pacifier when he was a baby. He also has telekinesis, but it only works if he hurts his incompetent human sidekick (who mostly opens doors) in the process. For instance, if he wanted to pick up a remote, he would have to throw him forward, make him pick it up, and drag him back. This treatment led him to become an Iron Butt Monkey. He also makes a bulletproof vest made out of living turtles.

Mine's basically Game of Thrones set in post apocalyptic Sydney. The zombie virus has burnt out leaving the world ruined with small pockets of survivors everywhere. The story follows one group of survivors trying to rebuild the city while dealing with the other survior groups.

I'm probably going to have the veiwpoint character as someone who lived outside the city before and during the outbreak, who journeys to the city to see how it fared and gets pulled into the Machiavellian shenanigans of the people trying to rebuild.

A girl is training to be a lighthouse keeper. The "lighthouse" in question is actually the nesting place of a thunderbird, which she is learning to care for (they've developed a girl-and-her-giant-mythical-bird relationship of sorts). Aside note,

At some point, the bird vanishes and the girl sets out on a journey to find it, which brings her in contact with various exotic locations and mythical beings. (One key location that she keeps returning to is "the city", which becomes increasingly gearpunk as you venture deeper into it.)

Alternate scenario: the girl is taken far away from the lighthouse, and embarks on a long voyage home. By the time she gets back, a large factory complex has been built around the tower (which no longer gives off any light, as the thunderbird has been captured and used as a constant source of electricity).

I have an idea for a complete Deconstruction of Tolkien-like fantasy. Basically, the 'Evil Overlord' trying to destroy the world is actually a Reasonable Authority Figure Well-Intentioned Extremist trying to make the Crapsack World of the setting not so crapsacky, while the heroes are jerks who lie about the overlord's evilness to raise a rebel army. Meanwhile, the supposed God of Good is actually a Jerkass God who abuses the power of fate to control humanity, while the Evil Overlord seeks a way to be Immune to Fate. It all boils down to a world-breaking reality-warping conflict between the Evil Overlord and a literal Deus ex Machina, with the overlord's descendant both metaphorically and literally screwing the Anthropomorphic Personification of destiny.

It would be sort of like a cross between Berserk and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Or like if The Inheritance Cycle was written so that Eragon was made the Designated Hero on purpose and Galbatorix was the good guy all along and killed him in the end.

[up] Not really. You are doing a Tolkien homage. I'm aiming for a complete fantasy deconstruction, and the setting and characters are very different from Tolkien's. I was using the phrase "Tolkien-like" very, very loosely.

Oh, that's what you mean. I wasn't able to tell it was a deconstruction from your description, unless we're simply deconstructing fantasy in different ways.

A man from the 21st century having to adapt to different time periods, such as the mid Roman Empire, the French Revolution, Tudor England, Victorian Europe, American Civil War, Ancient Italy, and finally, World War I. The stories would interconnect to change history, and eventually the main character becomes a worker for the Smithsonian.

And I would point out all of its flaws on a review on TV Tropes.

Here's a silly idea I came up with. :p

A young woman is spending a day in the city when the zombie apocalypse starts. She has to rely on her own wits to survive. The only problem is that she is a schizophrenic with a long history of violent tendencies and hallucenations. She was in the city to pick up her medicine after going a wholemonth without it. How can she survive if she can't even trust het own mind?

[up]An excellent recipe for Paranoia Fuel if ever I heard one. It could be the basis for a very, very unnerving video game—imagine attacking enemies with no clue as to whether they were real or not!

[up][up]Reminds me a bit of Quantum Leap, though I say this without having actually seen the show in question. Comparisons aside, sounds right up my alley—history and time travel are favourite themes of mine.

And dinosaurs. That kill Redcoats and Austrians.

Preferrebly a stegasourus, because carnivores are overrated.

Oh, and the world is changed.

1.Germany is reduced to democratic tribes, who continue to elect officials.

2. USA is defeated in a war between Iran, North Korea, and a rogue Syria. However, it comes back economically stronger.

3. Antarctica is colonized by Austria and Hungary before WWI, which becomes a rogue empire.

4. Italy, new Syria, and Iran begin the Alliance of Eastern Europe/Asia. They attack Moscow.

5. Russia gets in a civil war, while China is drained of food sources.
