In one instance, Sensui forces Kurama to duel in a game against a little boy, with the boy not knowing he will die if he loses. Sensui is aware Kurama will do it, but knows it will shake him up too much to be of use in fighting Sensui at his best later, while also knowing a guilt-stricken Koenma will use up too much power restoring the boy to life. Sensui also uses his multiple personalities to bear the burdens of his crimes, revealing his true self in time to defeat and even kill Yusuke before opening a path to the demon world, with his true goal being an elaborate suicide attempt to die at the hands of a powerful demon to atone for taking so many demon lives in the past. Passing as a dark mirror to Yusuke himself, Sensui remains one of his most sympathetic and fascinating enemies.
    • Kurama was once an infamous demon bandit named Yoko Kurama until he was nearly killed by a Demon Hunter and was forced to reincarnate into the human fetus of the nearest human woman living as Shuichi Minamino. Upon joining Team Urameshi and aiding Yusuke in his missions he would win his battles not just with power but though intelligence making him a master planner when it comes to fighting his enemies even before the fight begins. Manipulating his enemies into thinking they have the advantage when in reality they were already defeated leading to instant deaths or fates worse than death. Upon Faudo's awakening, after Leo weakens the heroes, Zeno sneaks into the control room, sends Leo away, and takes over control of Faudo in one fell swoop. Earning the loyalty of the other cult members, Zeno still uses the power of Godafu as a contingency in the event one tries to betray him and shows flexibility as a fighter. Even so, Zeno is ruthless enough to make people submit to his ways through fear and pain. Upon the realization Zatch lived a horrible life himself and that their father hid the whole story from him, Zeno immediately changes his ways and, in his final moments in the Human World, provides the twin he now loves everything he needs for the tournament.

Arriving during the Faudo arc to confront his old rival Keith, Bari displays tremendous growth as both a fighter and person, holding no tolerance for Keith's petty grudge while he and Gustav analyze every single spell he uses and counterattack accordingly with ease. In the climax against Clear Note, Bari once again demonstrates his newfound skills by skillfully circumventing the nigh-impenetrable barrier around Vino to aid Zatch.
