Go To

Journeys Across Equestria is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Player-driven Roleplay Forum set five years after the show's end, and can be considered a spiritual successor to the now defunct Equestrian Legends. Discord's reformation is canon, as are the events of IDW's My Little Pony comic book series.

Over five years have passed since Princess Twilight Sparkle of Equestria's coronation. Since then, aside from the occasional misadventure, Equestria's regained a sense of normalcy. No gods of chaos looking to twist the world into an unrecognizable state, no villains with world-conquering ambitions, just a relative sense of peace.

With the latest attempt to take over Equestria thwarted, citizens across the country have attempted to return to something resembling normalcy, and things are quiet once more. As for how long this sense of peace shall last, no one knows...

Examples of Tropes found in the forum:

  • Adaptational Sexuality: Inari has no orientation at all. He swings both ways without problem at all.And then the friend she was thinking about while doing it appears into her room.
  • Afterlife Antechamber: What Purple Cloud saw before she became an Alicorn.
    • Kogane saw the gates to the Netherworld, and was ready to cross it as vengeful spirits tried to destroy her soul.
    • Blue Moon had simply found himself on the threshold during a heart attack.
  • Anatomically Impossible Sex: What happened between Inari and Blue Moon. Justified, it was all a dream.
  • Animal Motifs: Think about Kogane's unique mark on her forehead. A Butterfly. Now think about how close she got to death.
  • Ascended Extra: That happens sometimes. Someone starts using a NPC to keep the thread rolling and suddenly he makes it into its own character.
  • Back from the Dead: Purple Cloud assumes this happened to her, but Kogane Fusenmei was by Netherworld's door
  • Badass Boast: Chances are that there are too many to list.
  • Badass Teacher: Miss Blossom is implied to have shades of this.
  • Bed Trick: Inari did this with Blue Moon, by disguising as Purple Cloud, his mentor.
  • Big Sister Instinct: What Purple Cloud does to Blue Moon.
    • The relationship between Artemis and Somnus is this. But is complicated to tell who is the big brother or sister, because they protect each other like crazy.
  • Big Brother Mentor: More like Big Sister Mentor, between Purple Cloud and Blue Moon. She is as caring to him as a sister and a mentor would.
  • Big Eater: Corporal Cannoli is implied to be this.
    • Johnagold, as well.
    • Peppermint. Oh god Peppermint.
    • Kon-Kon (Purple Cloud's pet) wanted to eat a watermelon by himself. And he is a sort of fox cub.
  • Body Horror: Inari can do things that, if someone tried to mimic, would make them wish they could die before it is over. Of course, Inari has gone through a lot and also made experiments to himself in order to ascend. No wonder he is the God of Illusion.
    • During her small trip through afterlife, Kogane averts this. Kind of. Her soul was torn, little by litte, by vengeful spirits. But, in that moment, she was not made of flesh and bones, but rather of... Well, spirit. Therefore there was nothing gross happening.
  • Broken Bird: Sour Lemon is a very depressed mare who was made that way by a troubling childhood experience.
  • Burning with Anger: Rarely Kogane's case. But she accidentally bursts in her own flames whenever she gets startled, surprised, excited, shocked, etc.
  • Came Back Strong: Purple Cloud. Although she is unaware of all her potential.
  • Cherry Blossoms: Kogane puts up a display of this whenever she is feeling like. Usually for performances.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Johnagold. Considering that there are aspects of him based off of Bobobo, that's a given.
  • Cold Sniper: Lieutenant Sunlit Saber can veer into this territory when she's in business mode.
  • Continuity Reboot: Due to the issue of a fluid timeline in which inconsequential threads having no specific date to take place on coming into conflict with major events which have set dates of occurrence, among other things, a reboot of the site's continuity has occurred. Fortunately, every player's characters and post count has remained intact following the reboot.
  • Covert Pervert: Blue Moon, if the C-box shenanigans are to be believed.
  • Creating Life: Kingin is Inari's first artificial life form with a mind and soul to call his own. And the Fox God himself has great concern over his creation's health and safety.
Inari: "He is among the first golem I have created, the other ones being... Uh... Let's say they couldn't play Tic-Tac-Toe."
  • Cursed with Awesome: Sun Shard and Moon Shard are Half-Vampire and Werewolf respectively. Sun Shard thinks it is awesome, Moon Shard thinks it isn't, but their curse barely impacts their social lives. Well, except Sun Shard now sleeps from dawn to dusk.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Averted by Bamboo Foxes, specially Kon-Kon. Unless you got a thing against the sound of a bamboo fountain.
  • Deader than Dead: King Sombra. When your very soul is vaporized into nonexistence, this is going to be the end result.
  • Death Amnesia: Averted by Kogane. She remembers every little thing from the near death experience.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: How Somnus got his fancy airship "Alice II". He defeated the former captain, a pirate, in front of his entire crew and spared him, asking him to follow him around. The captain's name is No-Mane. He's bald
  • Dhampyr: Sun Shard is one. She got lucky at this, though.
  • Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: Kogane has some interest in the entity that is reaping everyone. And now they explored each other's bodies.
  • Dimensional Traveler: Purple Cloud. She crosses another dimension all the time to go from a point to another without having to lose time going around an obstacle. And Utopia is one too, to a lesser extent, for she only made it through a dimensional rift to come to this world.
  • Disability Superpower: Utopia retained her ability from the other site, to see outlines even though she is blind. However she perfected it to the point she can see the world exactly as is. That added to the fact she can see the dream world.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: Kogane doesn't fear the strange creepy entity that is taking people away. In fact, she sees it as a FRIEND. Justified, Kogane was pretty close to death and met it while bordering the netherworld. They are pretty much Childhood Friends.
    • Blue Moon has also shown shades of this, outright hugging the entity during his near death experience.
  • Double Weapon: Somnus's weapon of choice is a twin blades. Basically, two swords attached together by the grip.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Somnus gets mildly drunk from drinking blood in order to get himself in a better mood.
  • Energy Weapon: Xiaomai has light element for his Breath Weapon and, as such, this allows him to use beams of energy that can cause quite a burn... But he uses it in a concentrated thin beam to cut wood.
  • Erotic Dream: First Blue Moon had sex with Inari (disguised as Purple Cloud), then Inari toyed with the alicorn's dream. And Blue Moon enjoyed!
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Inari, the Lovable Sex Maniac- if what Blue Moon's genderbent dream-fox self's words are to be taken seriously.
  • Evil Counterpart: Inverted with Obsidian Blade and King Sombra. Their similar appearances were lampshaded during a trip to the Crystal Empire. Cue headaches for everypony involved.
  • Expy: Purple Cloud will surely remind you of someone from a certain doujin shooter
  • Extreme Omnisexual: Inari can change forms at will and doesn't mind being the male or female in a relationship.
  • Face Death with Dignity: What Kogane promised to her rather interesting friend.
  • Fantastic Light Source: Kogane's flames are dubbed "Netherworld Flames" sometimes. The reason? They shine so brightly with an inviting warmth that can be seen from the other side, drawing spirits to it like moths to a flame.
  • Faux Flame: Kogane's main ability revolves around make fire that cannot spread nor burn, but can still cast light and pleasant warmth.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Obsidian Blade is this, having been frozen for over 1200 years in the Crystal Mountains, only recently having been discovered by Equestria's resident Bobobo expy, Johnagold Apple, and the ever-so-calm Kirin, Wander.
    • This still applies to him post reboot, though the time he spent displaced has been reduced to just a hair over one-thousand years in the new timeline.
  • Flash Step: Wind-aligned Inukami can pull these off.
    • Inari uses Flash Step to quickly travel. It's said to be like teleportation, but his is limited by the faith he earns and the faith in the destination.
  • Four Is Death: Purple Cloud makes a long pause at 444. There's no known cause, but one can think she has problems with death...
  • Genetic Adaptation: Utopia underwent this during her interdimensional trip. She almost died because she began to lose her ability to talk with the hivemind, her ability to change forms and her life... In the end, she had been changed into a normal unicorn, down to her very magical energy pattern and genetic code. The only things that remains of her changeling past are her memories and a strange ability that allows her to hear a nearby hivemind.
  • Gentleman and a Scholar: Kagerou. Since early age he had shown interest in studying. Add that to the fact he is of noble blood and family and you have this.
  • Going Commando: Normally, Inukami are dressed in oriental style, even using fundoshi or koshimaki. But Kogane doesn't wear anything under her robes. Reason for that? Unknown.
    • Kagerou, Kogane's boyfriend, once gave her a fundoshi he gained but didn't like wearing it (Of course, he is a DRAGON. That does fit on him!). Ever since, she wears that only when he is sleeping over at her palace.
  • Golem: Kingin is a sort of golem pony made by Inari in order to keep watch in Equestrian grounds ever since a terrorism incident happened in Manehattan. However, as Inari once stated, this one is different, has a mind of its own, but yet needs to mature before given freedom.
  • Green Thumb: You just don't want to mess with Dandelion
    • Hart the deer is a case of Green Antlers.
  • Happily Married: Johnagold and Jewels.
  • Heroic BSoD: And how! One example involves Inari mercilessly slaughtering terrorists in Manehattan. Don't dare to ask him what broke him this bad.
  • Hot Teacher: Miss Blossom could qualify, although she's meant to be more cute than hot.
  • Hot Wings: Kogane grows a non-functional pair of butterfly wings of flames at will or when conditions mentioned in Burning with Anger above takes place.
  • Hurricane of Puns: Johnagold can be like this from time to time.
  • Immortality Begins at Twenty: In Purple Cloud's case, she was 6 years late for this.
  • The Juggernaut: Shattered Dawn
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Believe it or not, Blueblood, the poster pony for Prince Charmless. He can act like a jerk, and it's not entirely clear how much of it is an act, however, he also willingly defies the changelings and tosses out the pompous attitude to trek to the Crystal Empire to get help. He also admits that his Zero-Approval Gambit is in an effort to keep tabloids and other media from publishing stories that deface Celestia with conspiracy theories.
  • Jizzed in My Pants: Poor Kogane has a bad time whenever that time comes around.
  • Kiss of the Vampire: Besides the actual Vamponies, Thestrals have slight vampiric tendencies. At least one thestral drinks some of his wife's blood when he's especially thirsty, with her permission.
  • Knight Errant: Obsidian Blade could qualify as this, considering that he would always put the safety of others before himself, even after he was discharged from the military, and became a mercenary.
    • Somnus abandoned the military for reasons and became a mercenary as well, but he is much more of an adventurer.
  • Large Ham: Johnagold is loud, proud, and boisterous, even in the bedroom. ESPECIALLY in the bedroom.
  • Lawful Stupid: The Crystal Empire's guard seems to come off as this. Of course, when you realize that for them, it was only five years since they were freed from the rule of the tyrannical King Sombra, their paranoia is somewhat justifiable.
  • Mad Scientist: Inari implies this often when he brings up his magical studies, saying also that he was responsible for the existance of Bamboo Foxes and that he no longer has a real body, that his own was something he made.
  • Magitek: Along with some electronics like arcade machines, Magical Technology exists. Kogane uses a ressonance crystal for long distance voice contacts in rare cases. Kogane also lampshades that Mane-ji possesses handheld systems for gaming from time to time.
  • Mind Screw: Happygrass in a suit? His mane not in a mess or dreadlocks? Clean and smelling nice? Being a gentlecolt!? It was too much for Miss Blossom and Inari. It literally blew Inari's mind.
  • Minored In Ass Kicking: Kagerou is calm and collected, not desiring to engage in conflict... But dare to threaten Kogane to see what happens.
  • Mysterious Past: Some may have bits of their past held at secrecy or unveiled little by little... But Kagerou? His (Inukami) parents claims he was adopted since he was an egg, but he thinks that he was summoned from another realm. Damn, even his roleplayer can't think of his past without having loads of headache.
  • Nature Spirit: See Planimal down there.
    • Hart is pretty much THE Nature Spirit...Well, more of a druid who makes use of potent nature magic, but he's probably one of the more prominent examples.
  • Near-Death Experience: Purple Cloud and Kogane had one of those. The former walked into the light to return as an alicorn, the later acknowledged the Nothingness/Truth/Death/True Peace so much that she was able to give it an existance.
  • Nice Guy: Inari, Blueblood and Somnus. The entity is seen as this by Kogane.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Discord took over one of Inari's shrine to brew up a mini chaos. The Fox God thought that the idea of making more shrines FOR DISCORD would be a great way to make things between them much better... Except it caused many Inukami to think Equestrians were forcing them to accept Discord as a God, and this caused internal conflicts to intensify and terrorists to attack Equestria.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Kogane pulls this one sometimes.
  • Normally, I Would Be Dead Now: Purple Cloud, for a good time since she became an alicorn. Also, Kogane evokes this, because she was supposed to be deader than dead!
  • One-Man Army: Inari. In his early days, he alone took down over a hundred warriors in battle and caused an army of 5000 to run away in fear.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: Inari is a God that was once a mere mortal. Due to the many experiments he did to himself, he can shrug most wounds as if they did not exist, and he has actually cut one of his tails once to give a portion of his power to someone.
  • Planimal: Plant ponies, specially Alraune (c-box character) and Dandelion
    • Recently, Bamboo Foxes.
  • Power Limiter: The purpose of Shattered Dawn's armor: to limit the effort he can put behind his magic, although his player is undecided whether it is because of his current bitterness or just to keep him safe.
  • The Power of Friendship: Friendship is Magic.
    • Also seems to be what is giving "life" to The Entity.
  • The Power of Rock: Johnagold invokes this from time to time. He used to be in a metal band known as BUCKSLAYER.
  • Pretty Butterflies: On fire.
  • Primal Scene: Ginger Gold walked in on her parents, Johnagold and Jewels, while they were having sex. The next day at school becomes VERY rough when Em asks how Kirin are made.
  • Reality Warper: Inari himself has the ability to create illusions so complex that they break reality as a whole.
  • Ret-Canon: With Season 4 premiering in late November, this is to be expected as new episodes are released.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Kon-Kon.
  • Sensei-chan: Miss Blossom, of course!
    • Orochi no Mugen (who was actually Inari disguised as a child who plays the protagonist of the fictional series "The Tale of the Dead Prince") has refered to her as Sensei.
  • Sexual Extortion: It was implied Inari did this to Blue Moon. But, in reality? He just plans to expand his domains. Whether or not Blue Moon decides to worship the Fox God is up to him.
  • Shapeshifting: Inari is a God to Inukami and, as such, he has spells to toy with reality to his will. Sometimes, he likes to change things a bit.
  • She Is All Grown Up: In her first thread, Princess Sayuri was a whiny, stuck-up Kirin about the size of a regular pony. Fast-forward a few threads over the span of a few months, and she now has approximately the size and body shape of Princess Cadance and seems to have emotionally matured in some aspects, as well.
  • Shout-Out: White fur, black mane and red eyes describes Somnus's deceased love Alice. Also her uncle has a painting named "Alice in Wonderland" in his antique shop, from which it is claimed that they took the name for her. At least she was a sane one...
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Sun Shard was born at daytime and is a half-vampire, Moon Shard was born at nighttime and is a werewolf.
  • Speaks in Binary: Kogane can COUNT in binary. And she does that for fun.
  • Spirit World: The Netherworld. Kogane has been close to making it there, so close she could see what lies beyond that point.
  • Stepford Smiler: Spring Blossom, one of the schoolteachers in Ponyville is very much this. She is very pleasant and happy on the outside, but she has a dark side you do NOT want to see come out.
  • The Stoic: Somnus. As part of his military training, he learned to control his emotions well enough to keep a poker face at all times.
    • Whisper Wing takes this to such an extreme that he rarely speaks more than a few words at a time.
  • Strangely Arousing: Inari makes reality his bitch, to the point that he can just say one word and make someone feel extremely aroused.
  • Talking to Plants: Dandelion does this. Justified, she is a plant pony.
    • According to what Purple Cloud explained to Dandelion, Inukami have this habit of apologizing or making promises to a plant they will make use from.
    • Hart and the Deer as a whole are even more skilled in talking to plants than Inukami.
  • That Poor Plant: The smallest thought of a plant suffering causes Dandelion to break in tears.
  • Time Skip: Used to end the site's first site-wide story arc, as it had been left dead in the water for several months prior.
  • Together in Death: Kogane's promise to The Entity is this. Nothing will keep them apart, and in death their love will grow even stronger.
  • Toon Physics: Inari and Discord. Specially Discord. Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich are able to do so to some extent.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Johnagold LOVES his zap apple jam. On everything. His love of it is definitely played out as creepy. On purpose.
    • Ginger Gold has been shown to like anything with rainbow juice in it, and is also mentioned to enjoy pudding.
  • Troll: Blueblood, though he's not as bad as most.
    • Princess Sayuri of Neighpon (Now ruler of Shuijing Shan)has had a few teasing moments both in canon and in the non-canon cbox.
    • Inari has also the fame of being mischievous. Not many have been trolled by him lately, though.
  • Unstoppable Rage: The trigger for Kagerou's greed growth, strangely enough, is just knowing that his loved one is threatened. That alone makes him much bigger and menacing... Hilariously enough, Kogane's talking is enough to bring him to reason once again, immediately forgetting the cause of his anger.
  • Useless Useful Skill: Star Catcher has massive wings for a pegasus pony. This makes her an amazing glider, however this also made her wings too heavy for her to sustain flight as a filly, so she was never able to exercise them as much as she should have at an early age, making prolonged flight more physically taxing on her than most pegasi.
  • Walking the Earth: Inari himself liked to point out that he wanders the entire world in his pursuit for knowledge. But he will come to his subjects whenever requested.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Blue Moon's inherent ability as an alicorn? Feeling what other ponies around him feel as if they were his own. The problem with this? He doesn't know what he's supposed to do with it, he gets overwhelmed easily by varying sources of emotions, and it doesn't have an off switch. His negative opinion on this blessing is a result of...
  • Years Too Early: Kagerou and Kogane's relationship started way too early.
  • Young and in Charge: Not exactly in charge, but Kogane and Kagerou are very young and takes on diplomatic matters outside their cities.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: No-Mane had cancer. Even though the medics expected him to not live long, he has been living through it like a boss. Somnus even ponders on the accuracy of the exams. But his will to live life as he wanted was strong enough to defeat the cancer on his own. I guess a name change will be in order soon...
  • Zero-Approval Gambit: Blueblood seems to revel in this, purposefully acting like a self-centered and arrogant jerk (which he is, to some extent) almost every chance he can.
