Roleplay / My Little Jamjar

Go To

Once Upon a Time, in the magical land of Equestria...

...a whole bunch of strange ponies showed up out of nowhere in the middle of Ponyville. Discord insists it's not his fault.

More seriously, My Little Jamjar is a Journal Roleplay set in Equestria. The characters awaken as ponies (usually), and are basically free to go about their hopefully temporary new lives as they please. The Princesses are all working their hardest to figure out just what caused these appearances to start happening.

This roleplay and its characters provide examples of:

  • Alternate Universe: Original Character ponies do not exist in the Equestria shown in the roleplay. Well, not until they show up, anyway. The game as a whole is an alternate universe of the canon My Little Pony Friendshipis Magic, with several big differences. Also, its one of My Little Pony 'n Friends to an extent.
  • Apocalypse How: If both Queen Melissa's story about her world and the subplot involving the stars are, in fact, pointing in this direction, the in-game universe is looking at a Class X-4 at the very least, which is crossing into a Class X-5... The Stalliongrad ruins strongly imply a Class 1 event that occurred.
  • Arc Symbol: The Pale Pony symbol, in whatever variable it pops up. Precisely what it means in relation to the characters is still completely up in the air.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: For April Fools in 2014 (which was also the anniversary of the game), Tails broke into the OOC community to look for clues on the Pale Pony, but was greeted by the players. A few other characters also got in as well.
  • Big Bad: The Pale Pony seems to be the one responsible for the characters' arrival in Ponyville. The question is why.
    • Said Big Bad is also presumably responsible for the corruption of Hoovesweek and the Griffon government.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: The Pale Pony's universe has its eyes looming over the world. Even worse, she's eyeing 31 individuals who are either from Mayfield, friends with [MayTwi], can jump universes or have been brought to different Journal Roleplay-based games, or are dead and somehow active here. Currently 8 have been revealed: Adam, Queen Melissa, Nozomi, Kruetzer, Cecil, Jappleack, Kyokou and Minako
  • Brought Down to Normal: Following the Fourth Wall Event, Discord went around snatching power-ups people grabbed from the dungeons. The OU Fluttershy ended up finding out that he believes that the mass gathering of power may have to do with the stars disappearing, thus he's limiting their power to stymie it.
    • Anyone de-powered by the Pale Pony, albeit temporarily.
  • Clone Angst:
    • Mayfield Twilight has serious identity issues. Applejack, not so much. Nozomi shows signs of it.
    • As of July, Donatello has been revealed to be a victim of this. Maybe.
  • Crapsaccharine World: Like the canon Equestria, the Equestria here is quite bright and cheerful. However, the presence of Calice has caused the world to take a more darker turn. Probably the easiest thing to see is the rising Fantastic Racism between the off-worlders and, currently, the more rich and powerful.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: He is lonely down in that dungeon basement, after all.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: Say what you will about The Batman Gambit pulled off by the princesses and Zetta, but it worked.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: Pretty much every evil or eldritch abomination in-game are well aware that the threat of the Pale Pony generally trumps personal ambitions and goals, and have no problem siding with universe when push comes to shove. Except maybe Chrysalis.
  • Fantasy Gun Control: While the usual laser guns that comes with most heroes are still there, actual guns are not. And good luck with gunpowder, as Discord will appear and eat it.
  • Non-Player Character: Celestia. Not even alternate-universe or game-import Celestias are allowed (for now). The other princesses are under no such restrictions; as an example there are three Princess Lunas.
    • As of April 2014, non-setting-native Celestias are allowed. It wasn't long before there were three of her, too.
  • Old Media Are Evil: With the way that Hoovesweek operates, its no surprise that most characters consider the magazine to be a bigger threat than the assumed Big Bad.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Starswirl the Bearded made immortal guards to protect the Canterlot Library's basement levels. Apparently Starswirl went a little... kooky, later in life, because he specifically enchanted them to crave yogurt. More seriously, they don't remember anything but Starswirl's instructions. They don't even recognize Celestia.
    • May also be averted with Starswirl the Bearded himself, if what has been hinted at is true.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: A recent Discord event caused players to regress to younger times or age up to older versions of themselves. In a bit of a twist, doing so removed their memories of the time in the game (and other events, too, depending on what happened). Why did he do it? Because he assumed Granny Smith was taking her talents as a youth for granted, and...got a bit carried away in trying to prove a point.
  • Power of Friendship: It's an RP centered around My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, of course this is gonna be a central theme! However, the problem lies within the characters' various levels of moods as many of them are very snarky, bitter and outright refuses to give most kindness things the time of day. Some are starting to realize, though, that smacking someone with super awesome powers isn't really the answer and that they should start trying to utilize this.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: The AU Rainbow Dash tears into characters who those who decide the best thing to do is comfort themselves with powers and abilities they don't understand and expect them to work the first time they get them. Some are cowed into agreeing, some outright agree and some call out Rainbow Dash for her hypocrisy.
  • Wham Episode: Quite a few:
    • The Grand Galloping Gala, 2013. The first time that the Arc Symbol and the Arc Words first appeared.
    • July 16, 2013. The night that Donatello killed Nemo Vantas.
    • When the statues revealed themselves to the Weeping Angel victims.
    • When Bertha is revealed to be the Witch form of Megan Williams, from a universe where she made a contract with Kyuubey...
    • The events of Nightmare Night 2013 revealed, among other things, that the Pale Pony is capable of forcing a type of Demonic Possession one whoever they please, Mayfield's Twilight Sparkle was a victim of this using a version of Nightmare Moon, there's another Honeycomb that's a statue, and ponies that have disappeared or permanently died since the arrival of the newponies are now disembodied souls that can only seemingly inhabit said statues. Oh, and Zetta and the native Princess Luna single-hoofedly stopped an invasion from aliens whose planet mysteriously vanished in a burst of rainbows.
    • Age Switch Event. Celestia was a blank flank as a teenager! And ends up in jail!
    • The Hearth's Warming Plot, 2013 revealed that Honeycomb was really a changeling queen named Melissa...from a future where the universe was destroyed. Honeycomb was her...ahem...absolute bestest friend in the world who she emulated, because she felt Honeycomb was just that awesome in comparison to her. And also because changelings like Chrysalis made everyone hate changelings in general.
    • The One-Year Anniversary Plot. The invader from the mirror, Tezcatlipoca, is what Princess Celestia would have become if she fully gave into her pride, anger and jealousy. Celestia has spent the past thousand years crossing back and forth through a magic mirror in her room to defend that mirror's Earth as a result. Also Gwen Madder died...and came back after her funeral.
      • The story about the mirrors in general. There were once thousands of mirrors created by Star-Swirl the Bearded in his magic research, that allowed inter-universal travel, and destroying even one not only causes a massive output of chaos energy, but also, these energies are connected to the chaotic nature of the Everfree Forest. Because Star-Swirl the Bearded smashed countless mirrors before Celestia could put him down. Now there's only one mirror left.
      • From Bad to Worse: The mirrors were smashed the same night Nightmare Moon was defeated. And upon seeing all the mirrors shattered - which meant she would never be able to go home again, much less find it - Megan lost it and the Witch Bertha was immediately born after. There's a reason Celestia doesn't like talking about that particular night.
    • Arguably, The disappearance of Rarity, as it was the first known disappearance of a pony native to the setting.
    • The reopening of the Dungeons after the shattering of the final mirror. Nozomi and EG!Pinkie were the first to explore and found it completely deserted and void of life. When Nozomi mentioned it on the scrolls, Discord casually mentioned that they've only aged thousands of years.
    • The end of the Equestria Games and the arrival of the Pale Pony. Kreutzer was killed when she tried to read her mind, overloaded by the innumerable souls inside her. The Pale Pony also revealed her true name, Cálice, and stated her intent to absorb all of existence into herself and gain all Knowledge.
  • Wham Line: "CÁLICE" WAS THE NAME CHOSEN BY THE PERSONALITY ANOMALY WHEN IT BECAME THE SENTIENT CONSCIOUSNESS OF TWILIGHT SPARKLE.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: The usage of powers tends to bend towards this. So far, it seems that power users are the ones in the wrong here.
    • Though some ponies have started to realize this recently.
