  • The newly-regenerated Third Doctor is exiled to 20th century Earth as punishment by the Time Lords indefinitely.more He becomes scientific advisor to UNIT and takes on (and later parts ways with) Jo Grant, Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan on his travels into the TARDIS.   • January 1: Trevor McPhee is returned to Earth after being abducted by the aliens for the third time. As before, ten years have passed and he has not aged a day. He attempts to bond with his 19-year-old son Mark. His ex-wife Theresa's second husband Ray Carter succeeds in recording his disappearance on Super 8 when he is abducted by the aliens for the fourth time. (The Outer Limits (1995))
  • January 22: Tim Barnes is murdered in Philadelphia. (Cold Case)
  • February 12-14: A lunatic dressed as a miner kills people to prevent a small town's Valentine dance. (My Bloody Valentine)
  • February 14: Owen Harper is born. (Torchwood)
  • February 16: The serial killer Jerome Horowitz murders his first victim, Cindy Vetterman, as she did not come to his 21st birthday party the day before. In two alternate timelines, he is prevented from doing so. He is killed by Dr. Theresa Givens in the first timeline and by FBI Agent Jamie Pratt in the second timeline. (The Outer Limits (1995))
  • February 22: The Miracle on Ice, in which the US men's national hockey team came from behind to stuns the heavily favored Soviet national team 4–3 in the medal round of the 1980 Winter Olympics. (Real Life; the 1981 made-for-TV movie Miracle on Ice; the 2004 film Miracle; and the 2015 ESPN 30 for 30 documentary Of Miracles and Men, which unlike the previous two works tells the story from the Soviet side)
  • February 24: Two days after the Miracle on Ice, Team USA scores another come-from-behind win, this time 4–2 over Finland, to win the gold medal. (Real Life, Miracle on Ice, Miracle)
  • February 26: Sheldon and Missy Cooper are born to Mary and George Cooper. Mary gives birth at a Walmart in Galveston, Texas. (The Big Bang Theory)
  • Spring:
    • A group of teenagers connected to a child's death six years before are killed during prom. (Prom Night (1980))
    • Ray Finkle graduates from Stetson University as an honors student, after a prestigious college football career making two NCAA Division 1 records: one for most points in a season, and one for distance. (Ace Ventura)
  • March 1: Ron Weasley is born to Molly and Arthur Weasley. (Harry Potter)
  • March 11: Birth of Sean Matsuda in Brazil. He would practice basketball and martial arts as a teenager, emulating Ken Masters in style. (Street Fighter III)
  • March 16/May 28: Birth of Nanase Mizukami, younger sister of Kairi and Holuto, in Japan. She would be trained in the traditional fighting style of her family. (Street Fighter EXjustification)
  • March 25: The Wilmarth Foundation nukes Cthylla, offspring of Cthulhu.more (The Transition of Titus Crow)

  • May: Fifty years after he was struck by lightning and killed while playing golf, Peterson is revived by a team of surgeons. He is given the designation Single-O. (Just Imagine)
  • June 7: Steve Jablonski is murdered in Philadelphia. (Cold Case)
  • June 10:
  • June 13: A group of teenaged camp counsellors are brutally murdered during the renovation of summer camp Camp Crystal Lake. This is revealed to be the work of Pamela Voorhees, a former counsellor at the camp whose son Jason drowned there 22 years earlier. Pamela is killed by a surviving victim, who claims Jason is still alive and lurking somewhere nearby. The camp is nicknamed Camp Blood by the nearby town. (Friday the 13th (1980))
  • June 16: A St. Bernard named Cujo catches rabies. He starts attacking people the following month. (Cujo)
  • June 20: Sam Beckett leaps into Katie McBain, a teenage girl who has just been raped, in Mill Valley, California. He is there to ensure that Katie's rapist Kevin Wentworth, the son of a prominent local family, is brought to justice. (Quantum Leap)
  • June 28: A small-town school organizes a graduation dance for the first time since 1945, awakening a killer's wrath. (The Prowler)
  • Between April and June: Birth of Yang Dong to Ye Wenjie and Yang Weining (deceased). Ye and her daughter go to live with the Qi family for six months. (The Three-Body Problem)
  • July 31: Harry Potter is born to James and Lily Evans Potter. (Harry Potter)
  • August 13: Two months after the original deaths at Camp Crystal Lake, survivor Alice Hardy is murdered in her home by an unnamed assailant. (Friday the 13th Part 2)
  • August 17: In Australia, Azaria Chamberlain, a baby girl, is eaten by a dingo. The story becomes well-known, even joked about by the media. (Real Life)
  • August 19: The spaceship transporting NASA astronauts Colonel Alan Virdon and Major Peter J. Burke encounters a time warp while approaching Alpha Centauri. The ship travels forward to 3085, where they discover that Earth is ruled by intelligent apes. (Planet of the Apes)
  • September 28: Demona retrieves the Praying Gargoyle from Notre Dame Cathedral, and slays the current Hunter, Charles Canmore, in the process. Canmore is survived by his three children Jason, Robyn, and Jon. (Gargoyles)
  • September: LN-18 and J-21 are married. (Just Imagine)
  • Before October: The Battlestar Galactica and its fleet arrive at Earth, only to discover Earth is not advanced enough to defend against the Cylons. (Galactica 1980)
  • October 5: Ted Striker test-pilots the lunar shuttle XR-2300, but he can't handle it. (Airplane II: The Sequel)
  • October 8: Edwin Garrett disappears. (The 4400)
  • October 15: After showing him several inactive versions of the implants that the aliens place in the frontal lobes of their test subjects, Dr. Chet Wakeman tells Eric Crawford that they have finally found an active one after cutting open the heads of six people. He demonstrates the harmful effects of the implant on a soldier in an isolation room. The soldier is driven insane within seconds and kills himself by banging his head repeatedly on the glass.   • October 16: Tara Maclay is born. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
  • October 17: Jane Nance disappears. (The 4400)
  • October 19:
    • Jacob Clarke returns to his childhood home of Lubbock, Texas to visit his mother Sally, who is dying of cancer, and introduce her to his wife Carol and eight-year-old daughter Lisa. This is the first time that Jacob has seen Sally since his elder half-siblings Tom and Becky faked his death on January 4, 1959 and brought him to the Greenspan School in Missoula, Montana. Tom tells Jacob that he has come to the conclusion that his father John was a soldier who was injected with psychotropic drugs and Jacob developed abilities as a result. Jacob is less than convinced. To ease Sally's suffering as she dies, Jacob creates an image of John from her memories. Tom is finally convinced that John was an alien, noting that it is ironic that the country's leading debunker has a half-alien half-brother. (Taken)
    • Using a FBI aging program, Dr. Chet Wakeman creates an image of Jesse Keys' probable current appearance and distributes it to the UFO project's field agents around the country. (Taken)
  • October 20: Birth of Lilith Aensland. She was created from energy drawn from the succubus Morrigan Aensland and is more-or-less a clone of her. She would gain her own succubus body and powers, becoming Morrigan's "little sister". (Darkstalkersjustification)
  • October 21: The paramedic Jesse Keys receives a report of a car accident involving college students in Morgan's Junction, Missouri. While there, he sees an image of the carny that frightened him as a child and is abducted by the aliens for the first time in more than a decade. He is returned to the same spot approximately three hours later. Both his wife Amelia and nine-year-old son Charlie are concerned about him as he appears to be scared of something. That night, he notices the imprint of an alien hand on his stomach. He returns to Morgan's Junction and finds a glowing green circle in the wheatfield of the local farmer Luke Reynolds. (Taken)
  • October 29:
    • Eric Crawford tells his wife Julie and ten-year-old daughter Mary that they are moving to Maine. He does not tell them that it is because the numerous tourists camping out in the desert near Groom Lake make it almost impossible for the UFO project to do its work. (Taken)
    • While he is at home alone, Jesse Keys sees bright lights coming through the window and believes that he is about to be abducted. He goes outside and starts shouting, telling the aliens to leave his family alone. In the confusion, he pushes someone to the ground. It turns out that the lights were from his wife Amelia's car and the person that he pushed was Charlie. The entire family is shaken by the incident. After ten years of marriage, Jesse finally confesses to Amelia that he has been abducted by aliens multiple times and his apparent tumor is an implant that they placed in his head. Amelia believes that it is all in his mind, a symptom of post-traumatic stress due to his service in the Vietnam War, and convinces him to see a doctor for Charlie's sake. (Taken)
  • October 30:
    • Tom Clarke appears on television to refute his previous claims that stories of alien abductions and flying saucers were nothing more than a conspiracy. When the interviewer asks him why he has gone from a debunker to a believer, he says that he has personal information but does not elaborate. His half-brother Jacob is concerned that Tom will reveal his alien heritage to the world while Eric Crawford is curious as to what changed his mind on the issue. (Taken)
    • In the Rivers Clinic in St. Paul, Minnesota, the neurosurgeon Dr. Franklin Traub tells Jesse Keys and his wife Amelia that the implant is in fact a metallic deposit caused by exposure to unusual chemicals and that it can be dispersed using ultrasound therapy. Jesse is not convinced but he nevertheless agrees to the therapy as he does not want to run the risk of hurting Charlie. He warns Amelia that the UFO project may be looking for him, not realizing that Dr. Traub is one of their field agents. Based on the age progression sketch that he previously received, Traub tells Dr. Chet Wakeman that he has found Jesse Keys. (Taken)
  • Before October 31: In the absence of her parents Harold and Jean, Lindsay Weir hosts a keg party. (Freaks and Geeks)
  • October 31:
    • Two Cylon agents attempt to transmit Earth's location to their fleet but they are stopped by Troy and Dillon. (Galactica 1980)
    • Charlie Keys dresses as Darth Vader for Hallowe'en. He gets into a fight with a boy named Alan Holmes after he calls his father Jesse nuts but it is broken up by his mother Amelia and an apparent passerby, who turns out to be an agent of the UFO project. (Taken)
    • Sam Weir has a miserable Hallowe'en, which culminates in him being (accidentally) egged by his elder sister Lindsay. (Freaks and Geeks)
  • October: Zombie outbreak in Maricela, put down by Brazilian army. Army also apparently kills surviving natives in the area. (The Zombie Survival Guide)
  • November 1: Dr. Chet Wakeman goes to the Rivers Clinic in St. Paul, Minnesota to see Jesse Keys, who has been heavily sedated by Dr. Franklin Traub, for himself. (Taken)
  • November 3: Eric Crawford travels to Dallas, Texas to talk to Becky Clarke in the hope of finding out why her elder brother Tom has become a believer in aliens after spending years debunking stories about them. He tells her everything that has happened since the Roswell crash, admitting that he can't think of any other way to find the answers that he seeks. That night, Eric and Becky take his private plane to Groom Lake, Nevada and he shows her the alien bodies found in Roswell in 1947. There is a strong mutual attraction between them and they begin an affair. (Taken)
  • November 4:
  • November 7: After they have sex in a motel in Dallas, Eric Crawford asks Becky Clarke to leave her husband Ronnie and move to Maine with him. He says that he plans to tell his wife Julie about them. After Eric drives away, Becky is approached by her brother Tom. He accuses her of being a selfish little girl who is willing to walk on their mother Sally's grave to get away from Ronnie. When he asks her if she has told Eric that their younger half-brother Jacob is still alive, Becky admits that she hasn't. Tom sees this as evidence that she does not trust Eric any more than he does.   • November 8:
    • Jesse Keys realizes that "Dr. Patterson" is an agent of the UFO project as he is aware that the little men that he sees are grey without being told. He renders the agent unconscious and escapes. The aliens create an image of Jesse in order to lure Charlie to Morgan's Junction, Missouri so that they can abduct him. Although the real Jesse arrives and tries his best to protect his son, they are nevertheless both abducted. This is the first time that Charlie is abducted and the last time that Jesse is. When they are returned to Earth, Jesse is suffering brain damage from the implant. After he is brought to hospital, the implant falls out of his nose. He warns his wife Amelia that the project will be looking for Charlie from now on. Amelia and Charlie manage to escape the agents who arrive at the hospital and go into hiding but Jesse remains behind. He soon enters a catatonic state. (Taken)
    • Becky Clarke considers leaving her husband Ronnie for Eric Crawford but she can't go through with it as she realizes that she doesn't really trust him and that she doesn't want to leave her children Kim and Andy. Eric is heartbroken as his relationship with Becky represented his last, best chance to become a better man. (Taken)
    • That night, a group of UFO enthusiasts led by Becky and her brother Tom block State Highway 93 in the Mojave Desert so that they can inspect the trucks transporting materiel from Groom Lake. They correctly believe that the trucks contain the bodies from the Roswell crashsite. Although Eric Crawford does not allow them to inspect the trucks, they see the crashed ship being transported by three helicopters across the desert. To Eric's irritation, Tom says, "Still don't know how to fly it, do you?" Another, much larger and fully operational alien ship then appears overhead. The crashed ship is reactivated and enters the mothership. The aliens also retrieve the bodies but leave the artifact found at the crashsite behind. (Taken)
  • November 15: Having lost all of the proof of the existence of the aliens and the threat that they pose to Earth, the UFO project is shut down by the Senate Appropriations Committee after 33 years in operation. (Taken)
  • December 6: Birth of Ibuki to a village of ninjas in Japan. She would be raised as a ninja. (Street Fighter IIIjustification)
  • December 8:
    • John Lennon is shot dead by Mark David Chapman outside the Dakota Building in New York City. (Real Life)
    • The assassination is influenced by Huitzilin, a supernatural Aztec entity, for its own purposes. (The Left-Handed Hummingbird)
    • Upon hearing the news, a young Rick Castle doesn't leave his room for a week. (Castle)
    • Kim Karlsen's friends, Gunnar, Sebastian, and Ola, all react by going to the same fountain in Oslo, but at different times. Seb takes up studying and becomes a teacher, Ola takes up hair dressing, and Gunnar also takes up studying, becoming an archaeologist. Kim lives in seclusion, but writes post cards to his friends.   • December 14: Birth of Faith Lehane in Boston. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
  • December 31: Bunch of med-students are killed in a New Year's Eve masquerade party on a train. Perpetrator turns out to be disgruntled former student who was victim of a nasty prank short time ago. (Terror Train)

  • Cristoph Kuyler assassinates a bank president in Paris. While trying to escape, he runs into Duncan MacLeod. Duncan thought himself retired from the Game and did not carry a sword at the time. He has to evade both Kuyler and a number of approaching police officers. Duncan manages to board a Bateau Mouche, impressing Tessa Noël in the process. Duncan and Tessa would go on to form a romantic relationship that would last for the rest of her life. (Highlander: The Series)
  • [Alternate Timeline] Earth is a lifeless, windswept rock wiped clean of all life following the return of Sutekh in 1911 and his corresponding rampage.     • After being inaugurated as the 40th U.S. President, Captain America reveals his civilian identity of Steve Rogers to the world. Immediately afterwards, he is the subject of an assassination attempt. Over the objections of the Secret Service, President America captures the would-be assassin himself. (What If?)

  • February 28: While playing baseball with his wife Carol and eight-year-old daughter Lisa in Los Altos, California, Jacob Clarke collapses. His body is beginning to fail due to his half-alien status. Jacob gives Lisa the star shaped pendant that belonged to his mother Sally and tells her that he loves her every day and twice on Sundays. He decides to change careers and work for the Time Repair Agency, fixing paradoxes. (Chrononauts)
