Shigeko Kageyama, AKA Mob is a Mob Psycho 100 gender swap fanfic.

It is also THE Mob Psycho 100 gender swap fanfic.

Mob is a fourteen year old girl with incredible psychic powers, a mother that doesn't understand, a brother who's slowly going crazy under the weight of the world, and a man named Reigen who means the world to her. She just wants to lead as normal of a life as she can but terrorist esper organizations, evil spirits, and her own new and confusing feelings are making this whole "normal life thing" kind of difficult.

At over a million words and counting, this is the longest piece of Mob Psycho 100 fanfiction in the entire fandom. It's a little bit of everything from action to romance to comedy to fluff and everything in between.

Shigeko Kageyama, AKA Mob provides examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Mob's mother is certainly verbally abusive and neglectful. Reigen's parents were as well.
  • Absurdly Powerful Student Council: Just as in canon the student government at Salt Middle School is much more powerful than any student council can be in real life.
  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Sophia Reigen. She's only twenty years older than her son.
  • A-Cup Angst: Mob. Well she is fourteen. How much of this is her own insecurity is unclear.
  • Ascended Extra: Rei Kurosaki goes from being, in canon, just one of the Awakening Lab kids to being one of Mob's closest friends and Ritsu's girlfriend.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Shigeo to Shigeko. It's in the title. That's to make sure that you know it's a gender swap.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Mob as a female is more outgoing, more talkative, and more self-aware than in canon.
  • Adults Are Useless: When Mob runs away from home for the second time nobody even considers telling an adult except for Rei, who's shot down on the grounds that Mob does not want to go home, go back to Reigen, and that children's homes are hell.
  • The Alcoholic: Reigen. He drinks away any negative emotions, has been drinking to cope since middle school, and hides liquor around the house. He tries to be better for Mob but never can stay on the wagon for long.
  • Almost Kiss: Reigen and Mob due to Reigen's empath powers. He is not ok with it.
  • Anachronism Stew: Mogami's unreality because time becomes muddled after one dies. The TVs are twenty four inches tall and black and white, there are no remotes, there are no touchtone phones, school is on Saturdays, some classes are still sex segregated, sanitary napkins don't have glue on the bottom, and Polaroid cameras are a status symbol.
  • Ax-Crazy: The other Shigeko, Mob's name for ???%, when she and Mob are threatened. Unlike canon where ???% just seems to lash out, here the other Shigeko has the desire to peel people like grapes.
  • Bad Liar: Mob, that's why she doesn't.
  • Battle Couple: Mob and Teru in the 7th Division arc.
  • Big Bad: Toichiro Suzuki, as in canon. Mogami is shaping up to be this as of his escape in chapter 64.
  • Big Eater: Reigen. He eats his feelings and he's not ashamed to admit it.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Do not ever do anything to hurt Ritsu, ever, or Mob will find you.
  • Berserk Button: Do not ever threaten Reigen unless you want to deal with the eldritch horror living inside of Mob.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Mob. Do not threaten the people she loves. You will regret it.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Claw and Mogami arcs end in an emotional moment between Mob and Reigen... after a terrible amount of trauma.
  • Blessed with Suck: Mob is the most powerful esper in the world. She also can't control her powers fully and is terrified of herself. Most people either treat her like a sideshow attraction, are terrified of her, or want to use her powers in some way for their own gain.
  • Braids of Action: Mob before she starts letting her hair down.
  • Brain Bleach: Reigen whenever Mob asks him about sex or he learns anything about her sex life... or even acknowledges that she even has one.
  • Break the Cutie: Mob. Between Claw, Moagmi, and her own mind coming apart it's amazing that she hasn't totally broken yet.
  • Break the Haughty: Teru suffers through this in chapter 64 after being beaten again and again by Shimazaki. Even as he's on death's door he still won't give up and only becomes more humble when he realizes that Mob would never forgive him if he died.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: How Rei sees her and Ritsu's relationship.
  • Broken Pedestal: Mogami for Reigen and Mob. As a child Reigen used Mogami's show as a form of escapism and imagined himself as The Great Reigen Arataka, Student of Mogami Kieji. He showed Mob Mogami's show and she looked up to him as an example of what she could be, someone with incredible psychic powers that could be used for good. Fast forward to the Mogami arc. Both Mob and Reigen renounce Mogami after the arc is over, with Reigen throwing his DVDs of the Mogami show out in the dumpster...of the fish restaurant down the block that is constantly in trouble with the health inspector.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Subverted. People learned really fast not to pick on the girl with uncontrolled psychic powers.
  • Chastity Couple: Teru thinks the he and Mob are going to be this. It doesn't last.
  • Child Prodigy: Ritsu when it comes to academics and Mob when it comes to her powers.
  • Children Raise You: Reigen becomes less selfish and grows after caring for Mob for months.
  • Chocolate of Romance: Teru gives Mob some of these when he tries to confess to her for the first time.
  • Chuunibyou: People often think Mob suffers from this condition until she displays her powers. Reigen suffered from this condition in his youth, having modeled his persona "The Great Reigen Arataka" after old reruns of Mogami's TV show.
  • Cigarette of Anxiety: Mob and Reigen smoke together whenever something bad happens. Mob sees this as a sign that Reigen sees her as an adult, Reigen sees this as a sign that he's not good for her.
  • Clear My Name: Reigen holds a press conference to clear his name after the events of Thirty Minutes of Shame. It doesn't work until Mob shows up and shakes things up. Literally.
  • Club Stub: How the Telepathy/Body Improvement Club is born.
  • Commitment Issues: Reigen has these. That's why he's so close with Mob. He can't have a relationship with a woman his age because he can't commit, something he acknowledges, and that's why he clings to Mob so badly.
  • Covert Pervert: Mob's inner monologue when she's with Reigen or Teru. Justified as she's fourteen and going through puberty.
  • Coming of Age Story: For the entire cast, even Reigen.
  • Crapsack World: Mogami's unreality. A world that's always cold, always grey, everyone in it either outright hates Mob or is indifferent to her existence, and there's school on Saturdays.
  • Crying After Sex: Teru as of his and Mob's first time in chapter 27. He cries less but still can't help it. Mob starts this up after the events of the Mogami arc.
  • Cult: The Psycho Helmet religion, not that Mob wants anything to do with them.
  • The Cutie: Mob is seen as this in universe.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Reigen, from what he says about his past. He rarely has anything good to say to Mob and most of his stories end in telling Mob what not to do.
  • Darker and Edgier: The sex and violence are definitely toned up from canon.
  • Deconstruction: Of Mob and Reigen's codependent relationship. Mob sees Reigen as her one source of stability, the only person on the planet who understands her, and as a romantic interest. Reigen is starved for praise, affection, and touch. They progressively become more and more enmeshed as the story goes on... and it does not do wonders for either of their mental health.
  • Desperately Craves Affection: Teru, Teru, Teru. As a consequence of being left on his own since the age of ten, and not having formed any real relationships, Teru clings to Mob. She's the only genuine, positive, relationship he's had in years. His greatest fear is losing her, especially to Reigen, and has even asked her to marry him in an attempt to keep her from leaving him.
  • Determinator: Mogami does not give up on converting Mob to his worldview, even after she initiates third impact on his unreality.
  • Distant Finale: Has two sequels despite not being anywhere near finished.
  • Doesn't Know Their Own Child: Mob's mother realizes that she has no idea who her daughter is in chapter 11. This cements her decision to leave Mob in Reigen's care.
  • Eccentric Mentor: Mob sees Reigen as this before he takes her in and she sees that he's just a normal human being with his own flaws and insecurities.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Mob calls it the Other Shigeko. ???% is, as in canon, the alternate personality that Mob shares a vessel with. Here we can see it's thoughts and feelings. It has limited emotions and works on a series of wants and fears without much higher thoughts... at first.
  • The Empath: Reigen develops empath powers in chapter 16. They're more of a curse than a blessing, as can be seen in the car scene in chapter 16 in which Reigen has to cycle through an entire car'a worth of teenage emotions. Reigen can also give his emotions to others and can get caught up in positive and negative feedback loops.
  • Establishing Character Moment: In chapter one we see Mob respect the right of neutral spirits to exist, defy Reigen when his orders go against her moral code, and her budding infatuation with Reigen along with Reigen's ignorance of her feelings, caring for her, and the fact that he gets around.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Mogami may have tortured Mob for six months but he at least never sexually assaulted her.
  • The Fashionista: Teru in spades. He tries to convert Mob. It doesn't take.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Teru and Ritsu after the first time they fought Claw.
  • First Kiss: Mob and Teru in chapter nine. It's not Teru's first kiss but it is Mob's.
  • First Love: Teru and Mob. Mob may have feelings for Reigen but she and Teru are in a committed relationship and she cares for him just as much as she does Reigen. She even has no idea who she'll pick when she grows up and chooses not to think about it.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Ritsu sees himself as the responsible sibling to Mob's foolish sibling.
  • Foreshadowing: Mob's stubbornness is foreshadowed in chapter one when she refused to exorcise the neutral spirits. It only gets worse from there.
  • Forgotten Birthday: Reigen thinks that Mob forgets his birthday because she's too busy having fun with her friends. In reality she's too busy being homeless and trying to deal with the trauma from the Mogami arc.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Reigen. He started drinking, smoking, and sleeping around when he was in middle school. He implores Mob not to follow in his footsteps. She mostly listens.
  • Free-Range Children: Mob runs away from home in the first arc, Teru's parents are an ocean away, and Ritsu's parents trust that he won't ever get into any real trouble.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Mob. She literally cannot hurt a fly. This changes after the Mogami arc.
  • From Bad to Worse: A grown man slowly develops feelings for a teenage girl. Self-loathing ensues. That same teenage girl is the most powerful esper on Earth but she's still human. Trauma lingers. She questions her very humanity. She clings to him. He pushes her away due to his own feelings. Things get worse.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Mob. It isn't until she defeats the 7th Division that Claw takes an interest in her. This interest continues as she and Reigen increase their social media presence and will only continue to grow once word gets to Suzuki of her completely draining the artificial espers.
  • Gayngst: Ritsu. A major subplot is Ritsu's slow realization that he is not at all attracted to girls and his constant refusal to live with this fact. Based on how highly his parents think of him, and how quickly they cast Mob aside, he concludes that they will never accept this about him and he resigns himself to spending a lifetime with Rei, who he only started dating to seem more normal and who he can't break up with because he doesn't want to hurt her.
  • Generation Xerox: Reigen and his mother. Both are blond, both are loud, both are insecure, and both smoke and drink more than they should.
  • The Ghost: Reigen's father and half-brother are mentioned but have yet to be seen.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Mob sheds these after defeating Claw but dons them again after the Mogami arc.
  • A God Am I: Dimple aspires to this. Mogami thinks he is this. Suzuki insists he is this. Mob doesn't want to be this.
  • Good Parents: Rei's parents. A big reason Ritsu doesn't break up with Rei is the fact that her house is a nice break from his. Reigen's mother tries to be this but instead becomes a combination of permissive, when it comes to Reigen's relationship with Mob, and overbearing, when it comes to his career prospects.
  • Growing Up Sucks: As is revealed in chapter 22 Reigen believes this.
  • Healing Factor: Mob develops one as the series progresses and she gets a better handle on her powers. She can also heal others.
  • Her Boyfriend's Jacket: Teru's hoodie becomes something of a security blanket for Mob.
  • High-School Sweethearts: The future that Teru envisions for Mob and himself.
  • Honor Before Reason: Mob calls herself out on this in chapter 64. Part of her, the other Shigeko (???%), calls Mob out on the fact that in trying to save everyone she ends up making every situation worse and that sometimes you have to hurt people or the people you love will get hurt.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: Mob becomes this when it comes to Reigen and Teru.
  • I Cant Believea Guy Like You Would Notice Me: Mob initially does not see why Teru would want anything to do with her romantically.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: Shimazaki in chapter 65 after his defeat by Reigen. He decides, briefly, to join Mob's side before realizing that she's just as terrifying as Suzuki.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Reigen in his middle school years. Go throughout the events of the second Claw arc.
  • I Want Grandkids: Sophia Reigen as first hounds her son about settling down, getting married, and giving her some grandkids. She comes off of that when she meets Mob and realizes the mutual love they share. She angrily tells him that she doesn't want grandkids when he tells her everything that happened to Mob during the Mogami arc.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Fashionable: Teru loves to dress Mob up. She could take it or leave it.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: Mob, due to her powers. See chapter 33. She creates power surges and earth quakes that can be noticed across the city.
  • Inner Monologue: Literally every character has one and they're all going on at the same time.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Teru firmly believes that he is not worthy of Mob due to her good nature and genuine, unwavering, kindness.
  • Insufferable Genius: Ritsu is seen as this in universe by his classmates.
  • Joshikousei: Mob
  • Kids Are Cruel: Well Minori Asagiri certainly is.
  • Ladykiller in Love: Teru has considerable experience with the opposite sex but Mob is the first girl that he has ever had genuine feelings for.
  • Lap Pillow: Mob uses Reigen as this when they watch TV. He doesn't mind this but he does mind that he doesn't mind this. He tells himself that it means nothing to her.
  • Large Ham: Reigen. Mob likes it. Teru and Ritsu think he's just obnoxious.
  • Last Het Romance: Ritsu and Rei. Rei is sweet, funny, interesting... and Ritsu feels nothing for her. Even when they kiss. Having a girlfriend is what pushes Ritsu to realize that he's gay.
  • Liar Revealed: Averted, unlike in canon. Mob never figures out that Reigen has been lying since the day they met.
  • Literal-Minded: Mob takes everything literally unless she has experience with the particular nonliteral phrase spoken to her. Even then she questions as to whether or not she's interpreting what she's been told properly.
  • Little Miss Badass: Mob, when she gets serious.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Teru. He lives alone in a nice downtown apartment, has money to burn on whatever he wants, but has no real friends before he meets Mob and Ritsu.
  • Love Triangle: Between Reigen, Mob, and Teru despite what Reigen says. Based on their first meeting we can see that one between Sho, Ritsu, and Rei is coming.
  • Made of Iron: Mob can certainly take a beating.
  • Mage Born of Muggles: Mob to her parents. In fact, most espers seem to be this.
  • Magic Skirt: Mob uses her powers to keep her skirt down when she flies. She's offended, even, that Reigen would think that she wouldn't.
  • Make-Out Kids: Mob and Teru take every chance that they can get to be this. Rei would like to be this with Ritsu, Ritsu doesn't care either way but kisses her whenever she asks to make her happy.
  • Male Gaze: Mob gets this a lot as the story progresses and she gets deeper into puberty. Shinji Kamuro says it best while watching Mob working out with the body improvement club. "No, she's jumping."
  • Manchild: Reigen has shades of this. He lives on junk food, hangs out with a teenage girl all day, and as much as he tries to be a proper adult he's still not doing so well. Notably he boasts to his mother about being in the black for three consecutive months... for the first time in years.
  • Meaningful Name: Spoken about at length in universe. Shigeko, nurturing child, takes care of those around her to her own detriment. Reigen Arataka, miracle worker, in Mob's eyes he's the one who saved her in every way a person can be saved. He taught her to control her powers, to a degree, has always been there for her, and is the only person who truly understands her.
  • Mind Rape: Possession does this to the host.
  • Mind Screw: Mogami's unreality. Time has no meaning. The days pass without rhyme or reason. Time stopped somewhere in the 1970s... and he's always watching you and whispering terrible things into your mind.
  • Minor Living Alone: Teru. His parents set him up in the old family apartment when taking care of him got to be too much.
  • A Mistake Is Born: Mob's mother considers her to be this. Ritsu is the happy accident, Mob was just an accident. Not that Hana would ever say this to her children's faces.
  • Morality Pet: Mob to Teru. Whenever he starts to slip back into his old ways he remembers that she wants him to be a good person. He changed for her and he knows that he has to stay changed to keep her.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Reigen to Mob. Ritsu to Rei. Teru to Ritsu.
  • My Beloved Smother: Reigen sees his mother as this.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Ritsu, after he yells at Mob, pushes her, and causes her to run away from home. Mob, after initiating third impact on Mogami's unreality. Reigen, too, after he pushed her away after she came to him for comfort after the events of the Moagmi arc.
  • Neck Lift: Mogami is fond of this.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Mob once she gets the hang of her healing powers. Even before she even knows that she has healing powers she remarks that her injuries never linger.
  • No Periods, Period: Averted. Chapters 19 and 53.
  • The Not-Love Interest: Reigen and Mob. Reigen and Mob live together, hang out all the time, cuddle, and have exchanged I love you's. This is all platonic on Reigen's part and Mob understands that due to the age gap between them they can never be together. Reigen doesn't want to think of his feelings towards her as being anything other than platonic but codependent.
  • Odd Friendship: Mob, a fourteen-year-old girl and Reigen, a twenty-eight-year old man.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: We don't see the LOL arc but it ends in Dimple's addition to the cast and Mezato trying to found a religion in Mob's name.
  • Older Than They Look: People think Mob is this after she and Reigen increase their online presence. His mother even prays, when she meets Mob, that she's just a short adult and not a teenager.
  • Parental Abandonment: Teru's parents when Claw started coming after him. Mob's parents as well, though she left of her own volition.
  • Parents as People: Sophia Reigen and Hana Kageyama. Sophia isn't just Reigen's mother, she's also an expat trying to make it in a foreign country and live with the choices that she's made. Hana Kageyama has her own baggage to deal with when it comes to her kids. She also likes decorating.
  • Personal Horror: What Mob has to do to defeat Mogami in the unreality. She has to strange Asagiri Minori to death, end the world of the unreality, and also she says a bad word. This goes against everything that she believes in. She clung to her niceness, her goodness, throughout the arc and when she comes out of the unreality she decides that she's terrible and falls into a deep depression.
  • Playing with Fire: Go is forbidden from doing this on the ride home from the ruins of the 7th Division.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Mob wears a lot of pink and has a pink and blue aura. Ritsu wears a lot of blue and has a dark blue aura. Subverted in that their mother has been buying their clothes in these colors since they were born.
  • Precision F-Strike: Mob during her final battle with Mogami.
  • Precocious Crush: Mob's crush on Reigen.

  • Sarcasm-Blind: Mob to an extent.
  • Secret Other Family: Reigen's dad had one.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here!: Reigen is a firm believer that sometimes you have to run away. Mob disagrees.
  • Ship Tease: Sho, in his first appearance, has nothing but good things to say about Ritsu and remarks that their auras are naturally compatible.
  • Shonen Hair: Ritsu, to hide the scar he got when Mob lost control of her powers and accidentally injured him when they were younger.
  • Shouldn't We Be in School Right Now?: Averted. Ritsu wants to skip school to find who he thinks is the man who sexually assaulted his sister. Teru reminds him that they're fourteen and they can't skip school or their parents will be involved and neither of them feels like opening up that can of worms.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Ritsu to Mob. Subverted in that it's totally one-sided.
  • Single Girl Seeks Most Popular Guy: Reversed. Teru, the most popular guy at Black Vinegar pursues and dates Mob, a girl of middling popularity at best at Salt Middle School.
  • Sink or Swim Fatherhood: Reigen was not planned. His parents knew each other for less than a year before he was born. His father, from what Reigen and his mother say, sank like a stone.
  • Start of Darkness: Arguably the first Claw arc when Mob opens herself up to the idea that it's acceptable to use her powers in self-defense.
  • Stock Shoujo Bullying Tactics: Minori Asagiri is fond of these. As the unreality progress she becomes more and more physically violent.
  • Stress Vomit: Mob, after telling Reigen everything that happened with Mogami, thanks to Reigen's empath powers. He's grateful for the vomit as it gives him something that he can fix.
  • Super-Speed: Mob can do this but she prefers not to as she's prone to motion sickness.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: Mob surpassed Reigen emotionally after the events of the first Claw arc. She's always been the one with the psychic powers but Reigen was always the brave and calm one. By the time of the world domination arc Reigen is a stressed out, terrified, mess and Mob is the calm and in control one.
  • Switching P.O.V.: The entire story is told in third person omniscient. This gives the reader insight into everyone's thoughts and motivations but it also makes some parts drag on.
  • Take Over the World: Claw's ultimate goal.
  • Taking You with Me: Ishiguro after Mob and Reigen beat the entre 7th division. He won't be beaten so he tries to swallow everyone up in a black hole, including himself.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Mob took Reigen's lesson on not using her powers against others to heart. That's why killing Asagiri breaks her so thoroughly.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Ritsu, after he lets Dimple possess him and goes through his asshole phase.
  • Tranquil Fury: Mob, after Reigen's "death" at the hands of Sakurai.
  • Trojan Gauntlet: Mob and Teru in chapter 27. They have no clue what they're doing and end up buying twelve boxes of condoms.
  • Troubled Child: Mob becomes this after the Mogami arc.
  • True Companions: Reigen and Mob. No matter what happens they will always come back to each other.
  • The Unfavorite: Mob to Ritsu and she knows it.
  • Was Too Hard on Him: Reigen after Mob comes home in chapter 51. He had no idea what she had been through during the Mogami arc or that she spent the post Mogami arc essentially homeless. He regrets how he said what he said but admits that he was right to try and put some boundaries up between Mob and himself.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Teru after Mob completely drains the powers of the artificial espers. Jodo, too, after Mob overzealously uses her healing powers when he gets massive organ damage during the fight with Mogami/Asagiri.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Claw. They have no qualms about kidnapping and torturing children.
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: Mob gets one of these from a razor blade in her shoe during the Mogami arc. She expects it to still be there when she gets back to the real world.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Reigen constantly tries to get Mob to believe this. She sees herself as being awkward, weird, and after the events of the Mogami arc, terrible.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: Mogami's unreality. Mob spends what she thinks were six months being tormented in almost every way possible... but it was only about half an hour.
