A Papillon dog that ends up with the ability to both turn into a human and a Pretty Cure.
  • Airplane Arms: Often runs this way when she takes human form.
  • Allergic to Routine: After she begins at school in Episode 9, she's either joining in classroom gossip... or asleep.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Since she is a dog, her attention span is rather limited.
  • Attention Whore: Due to being a dog, she wants constant attention from her owner-turned-sister Iroha and quickly becomes jealous whenever Iroha pets another dog.
  • Barrier Warrior: Her first shown move is a pink paw-shaped barrier she uses to ward off a Garugaru. In episode 4 she names it the Puni-Puni Barrier.
  • Big Eater: One of her personality quirks is that she's an unabashed glutton.
  • Big Sister Worship: Komugi adores Iroha for everything she's done for her.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: She uses Iroha's Character Catchphrase when imitating Iroha as she learns to be human.
  • Breaking Old Trends: A series first; she's one of the two Pretty Cures alongside Nyammy who are both pure-blooded animals that can transform into humans.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Due to the fact she never had to keep secrets, she tends to blurt out information she is supposed to keep to herself.
  • Child-Like Voice: Komugi has a very high-pitched, enthusiastic voice for a middle school student, emphasizing how energetic and immature she can be. It helps that she's usually a puppy.
  • Class Clown: In episode 9, her strange remarks and antics have the whole class laughing with her... except for Iroha and Satoru, who know what's actually going on and can't stop themselves from cringing.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Komugi was originally a dog, so she doesn't quite understand how the human world works when she transfers to Iroha's middle school in episode 9. She sees a soccer game and assumes the students are playing fetch. When asked about her favorite food, she says she likes wet rather than dry (as in dog food). And she introduces herself with a hearty "wan wan!", which is pretty much barking at her entire class. Despite this, she manages to be decently popular thanks to her athletic abilities and upbeat attitude.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Unlike previous lead Cures who are flesh-and-blood humans, Komugi is the first lead Pretty Cure in the entire franchise who is purely an animal (a dog in this instance). note
    • While previous lead Cures (sans Tsubomi/Cure Blossom and Nodoka/Cure Grace) are often portrayed as Genki Girls with excitable personalities to boot, they are often in their teenage years. Komugi, on the other hand, is a Kiddie Kid who acts very childish in her teenage years and has a very limited vocabulary, a stark contrast to her predecessors.
  • Conveniently Seated: She's seated right at the back of the class, so the teacher can, hopefully, not notice she's constantly napping.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Komugi used to be an abandoned dog living in the streets and was distrustful of humans until Iroha took her in. This may have been the primary reason why Komugi Hates Being Alone.
  • Distinguishing Mark: As a dog, she has a heart-shaped patch of fur in a darker color on the back of her head.
  • Dog Stereotype: Komugi is a Papillon dog, a type of spaniel. True to the stereotype, she's adoring of her owner, who is a teenage girl.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: During the first episode, Komugi has a dream that has her walking with Iroha, who greets a pair of girls dressed in school uniform who are seen in shadow. What's notable here is that her silhouette at the start of the dream is her human self.
  • Family of Choice: She went from a stray dog who ended up near a clinic, to becoming Iroha's little sister, thanks to the power of Pretty Cure.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Komugi has the attitude and mindset of a dog, making her extremely silly compared to her 'sister'.
  • From Stray to Pet: Komugi was originally found by Iroha abandoned in the rain. Her devotion to Iroha is since she took her into the shelter and nursed her back to health while also giving her all the love and companionship she'd ever need, something Komugi is now able to repay her for in spades.
  • Genki Girl: Par for the course, as she's a dog that can become human, so she acts like a dog in several ways, like the fact that she adores running around and cuddling up with Iroha, and sees being a Pretty Cure as a big, fun game that she plays with Iroha, and things like school as a massive game that she plays with everyone, and her stint as a goalkeeper as a massive game of Fetch.
  • Hates Being Alone: Komugi's worst times are whenever Iroha is away from her for even a few hours, to the point she ends up attending school mainly so she's able to be with her more often.
  • Heroic BSoD: In episode 6, her inability to use the Friendly Wand, her fear of the Kirarin Lion Garugaru, and her inability to help Iroha, who also scolds her for her reckless behavior, causes her to run away from home due to feeling that she's a liability towards her sister.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: In contrast to Iroha, who can communicate with the Kirarin Animals and use the Friendly Wand on her first try, she does not know how to use it, much to her frustration.
  • Humanity Ensues: She's a dog that turns into Iroha's new sister.
  • Idiot Hair: Possesses one that curls out at the front of her forehead.
  • Improbable Sports Skills: Komugi is an expert goalkeeper, since she just translates games like 'Catch' and 'Fetch' into playing soccer, to the point Sho cannot get a ball past her.
  • Jealous Pet: She tends to get jealous whenever Iroha pets another pet than her.
  • Kiddie Kid: She transfers into Iroha's class in episode 9, meaning she's supposed to be in middle school (roughly 12-15 years old). But thanks to having the personality of an excitable puppy, Komugi is very childish for her age — she's easily distracted, loud, hyperactive, and always looking to "play", even when fighting the Garugaru or attending classes.
  • Meaningful Name: Komugi is Japanese for "wheat", implying Iroha named her after the color of her light brown fur.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: Once she turns into a human, she suddenly becomes more intelligent and able to speak. Downplayed, as her range of vocabulary is still limited, and she occasionally makes grammatical mistakes as she speaks, she'll lapse into dog-like habits constantly and doesn't really think about anything before doing it. She also retains her animal instincts as shown when she is paralyzed with fear against the Kirarin Lion Garugaru.
  • Morphic Resonance: Her short pigtails as a Cure resemble her original form's ears. The cream-colored cowlick at the front of her bangs also carries over across all 3 of her forms.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: Since she is a dog, who became human, she frequently shows off dog-like behavior in her human form.
  • New Transfer Student: She transfers into Iroha's class in episode 9, the episode after Mayu does.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: Along with Iroha and Mayu, the ribbon on her uniform is pink rather than the dark red the other students have.
  • The Nose Knows: She finds Garugarus by sniffing them out with her nose, describing their smell as "Grrrr Garumph!". In episode 8, she tries to follow Iroha's scent to school, but gets distracted by the smell of cooked fish, and can pick out the smells of individual people.
  • Pink Heroine: After Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure featured the franchise's first blue leader, Cure Wonderful brings back the tradition of the leader Cure having a primarily pink colour scheme.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Her upper lip as a human is almost constantly bent into the right shape for this.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Komugi's brown hair becomes pink with blonde highlights as Cure Wonderful.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Her hair goes from shoulder length down to upper thigh level as a Cure.
  • Precious Puppy: Look at the little doggy!
  • Punny Name: Part of Cure Wonderful's cure name is a common pun that uses "wan", the sound a dog makes in Japanese.
  • Relatively Flimsy Excuse: To justify her sharing Iroha's surname, Satoru tells the whole class that she is Iroha's cousin.
  • Sapient Pet: She starts the series as Iroha's pet dog, and soon is declaring herself to be Iroha's little sister instead.
  • Secret Handshake: Komugi and Iroha have a secret pawshake, which Iroha uses as a Trust Password to confirm that the girl who saved her is actually her pet dog turned human. When Komugi as a human does it just as perfectly as her dog self, Iroha loses it and gets a Freak Out.
  • Secretly Selfish: Strongly hinted to be the main reason why she can’t use the power of the Friendly Wand at first, as while Iroha is fighting to help others, Komugi’s only reasons for fighting were to simply to protect Iroha and to be with her at all times, essentially fighting only for her own desires and not for anyone else. Once she thinks back to why Iroha does what she does and vows to also fight to help others and to understand Iroha better, she’s able to use the Wand.
  • Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: While her transformation into a human always comes with a pink dress, other pieces of clothing she wears remain the same when she transforms back into a dog.
  • Sibling Team: As Cure Wonderful, she forms one with her sister of choice, Cure Friendy.
  • Smug Smiler: In her dog form, she's been increasingly making this expression, which is unusual for a Precure leaders who usually have good natured smiles, or genki smiles.
  • Talking Animal: After becoming a Cure, Komugi can talk like a human in dog form. Iroha specifically tells her not to do so in front of their parents as part of keeping everything Pretty Cure-related a secret.
  • Third-Person Person: Refers to herself as "Komugi" as a human. Interestingly, she switches to first-person when transformed to Cure Wonderful.
  • Undying Loyalty: Truly loves and is dedicated to Iroha.
  • Verbal Tic: She cannot stop using a cute bark ["Wan"] whenever she's talking, especially if she's trying to say a word that sounds very similar.

A girl living in Animal Town, and Komugi's owner-turned-sister.
  • Alliterative Name: Iroha Inukai.
  • Animal Theme Naming: Her last name is "Inukai", which contains the character for "dog". She's also a dog owner, although Komugi soon becomes more like her little sister.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Just like her 'sister', she also gets distracted rather easily, as shown when she forgets their initial objective of finding Garugarus, due to being distracted by a family of ducks swimming by.
  • Bad Liar: Tends to be honest, and isn't very good at lying or hiding the truth.
  • Barrier Warrior: Just like Wonderful, Friendy can also make barriers to protect herself, but her barriers are in the form of Ribbons and are aptly named "Ribbon Barrier".
  • Big Sister Instinct: Iroha's whole reason for becoming Cure Friendy is that she wants to protect her new little sister.
  • Braids of Action: Has these as a Cure.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Since she already is a Bad Liar, she hates the fact she has to keep the Precures and Garugarus a secret from her friends and family, causing her to feel guilt.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Wonderful!", which Komugi takes to as a Borrowed Catchphrase.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: She is a kind girl unable to abandon those in trouble even if she has to risk her own life.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Since Komugi is her dog-turned-sister, she has to look after her when she attends school to make sure she doesn't stand out too much and act relatively normal.
  • Freak Out: Poor Iroha loses her composure and gets this when she realizes that the girl who saved her and her dog Komugi are one and the same after Human!Komugi perfectly does their Secret Handshake.
Iroha: "Isn't this kind of... all too wonderful?!"
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Acts as the responsible one compared to Komugi.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Animals like her and she returns the affection in kind.
  • A Girl and Her X: Iroha and her dog Komugi.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In episode 6, as she fails to understand Komugi’s feelings of wanting to be useful to her and how much her leash (which was converted into the Friendly Wands) meant to her, resulting in them arguing. This culminates when in an attempt to help Komugi, Iroha tells her to stay out of a battle with a lion Garugaru Komugi was scared of, naturally resulting in Komugi disobeying in an attempt to help Iroha, Iroha scolding her afterwards and Komugi ultimately running away, thinking her owner now hates her.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Is her Cure name "Friendly" or "Friendy"? Eventually it's officially designated as "Friendy", though it's easy to misspell it as "Friendly".
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname, Inukai, translates to "domesticated dog". It fits quite well when Komugi becomes her "sister" and takes it as her own.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: Along with Komugi and Mayu, the ribbon on her uniform is pink rather than the dark red the other students have.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted; there was previously a minor character named Iroha in Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Her orange hair turns blonde as a Cure. She is only the second purple Cure to not have purple hair as a civilian (the first being Cure Earth).
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Her chin-length hair goes to knee-height as a Cure.
  • Secret Handshake: She and Komugi have a secret pawshake. Iroha then uses it as a Trust Password to confirm that the pink girl in front of her and her dog are one and the same, causing a Freak Out when Human!Komugi manages to do it perfectly as though she was still a dog.
  • Sibling Team: As Cure Friendy, she forms this with her pet-turned-sister, Cure Wonderful.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Since she is a Bad Liar, the best she can do is go along with the assumptions others make.

A white cat that ends up with the ability to both turn into a human and also a Pretty Cure.
  • Action Girl: While a given in this series in general, in this series, she stands out with her first battle pummeling down a monster without any issue, though it's deconstructed by the fact said monster is a helpless animal, and as such, Wonderful and Friendy had to get in the way to be able to purify the monster and stop her from pummeling it.
  • Aloof Ally: While she becomes a Cure to stop the Garugarus and protect Mayu, she's a lot more distant and colder compared to Wonderful and Friendy. She prefers to directly fight back instead of taking a gentler approach, and tells the others to stay out of her way.
  • Animal Jingoism: At least while they're both in pet form, Yuki starts off as annoyed by Komugi's presence as you'd expect a cat to be, not helped by Komugi liking her as much as she does anyone else.
  • Barrier Warrior: She can create a blue paw-shaped barriers as a Cure.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Yuki avoided humans as a stray but little Mayu still talked to her and lent her warm clothes. The clothes helped the cat survive in a snowstorm, so she decided to let Mayu adopt her.
  • Cats Are Mean: In Episode 7, Mayu is shown with her arms covered in scratches, which she explains are Yuki's fault. She even says her legs have scratches, too. As such, it's implied that Yuki has a temperamental side underneath the snark. That said, however, it's overall Downplayed, as she still cares for Mayu regardless, and is loyal to her. Also unlike Wonderful and Friendy, she fights against the Garugaru directly and without mercy especially if they threaten Mayu. It's also implied that her lack of kindness towards the Garugaru is what prevents her from purifying them.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Yuki gives Mayu several snide expressions when Mayu declares that she's going to make lots of friends, only to duck when Iroha and Komugi pass by her house. Mayu then gets a paw to the head after they leave.
  • Cats Hate Water: According to Mayu in episode 8, Yuki dislikes taking baths. This is shown with an illustration of her above a washbasin with Cross-Popping Veins and spiked-up fur.
  • Cute Kitten: One of the things she gets up to in a promotional picture is lying down on a table belly-up as a Cuteness Proximity-stricken Mayu takes photos of her with her phone.
  • Distinguishing Mark: As a cat, she has a pink heart-shaped patch of fur on the back of her head.
  • Genre Refugee: Were she in a regular Precure season, she would have been a fitting Sixth Ranger, being a total badass in the same vein as those like Milky Rose and Cure Moonlight… However, this is Wonderful Precure, where handling monsters is done differently and, as a result, Wonderful and Friendy are completely horrified that she is pulverising a Garugaru and does not cease her assault even when it isn't in a state to fight back anymore.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While she became a Cure to protect her emotional wreck of an owner, she is brutal in combat and has no issues tearing into the Garugaru both literally and figuratively; however, this leaves her unable to properly purify them, unlike Wonderful and Friendy.
  • Humanity Ensues: She's a cat that turns into a human. She officially becomes a human in episode 11, having obtained the power between this and the previous episode.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: If she'd not found Yuki, Mayu likely wouldn't even leave her room except to eat. Naturally, her sudden disappearances to act as a Cure are what worries her owner.
  • Meaningful Name: "Yuki" means "snow" in Japanese. Yuki is a white cat. She also was found by Mayu on a snowy day. Meanwhile, her Cure name "Nyammy" has "nya" in it, which is the sound a cat makes.
  • Mysterious Protector: In her human form and as Cure Nyammy, she acts as one toward Mayu, telling her that she must not get involved with the Garugaru. Too bad for her, she is the reason why Mayu keeps getting involved.
  • Only Sane Man: When you have the neurotic Mayu, the flighty Iroha, and the rambunctious Komugi as part of your team...
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: She has light blonde hair as a human, which becomes white when she becomes Cure Nyammy.
  • Sapient Pet: She starts the series as Mayu's pet cat.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: Yuki does not believe Mayu when the latter says that she's going to make lots of friends, only to duck down when Iroha and Komugi walk past. Yuki gives a smug look to Mayu after she whacks her head with her paw. (And this is all done before Yuki gains the ability to talk like a human.) Nevertheless, she still cares about Mayu.
  • True Blue Femininity: Cure Nyammy sports a blue crown and a pair of blue heels, as well as blue trimming upon her frilly dress.
  • Undying Loyalty: Truly loves and is dedicated to Mayu, to the point that she becomes a Cure to protect her.

A girl, who has recently moved to Animal Town. She is a very shy girl, who eventually befriends Iroha. She is Yuki's owner-turned-sister.
  • Animal Theme Naming: Her last name, Nekoyashiki, contains the character for "cat", and she's a cat owner.
  • Breaking Old Trends: She is the first Cure to have a Cure name that uses a proper noun like Lillian, which is a real human name, rather than common nouns like Black, White, Blossom, Marine, etc. However, it's also a possible reference to the lily-yarn, a type of yarn used in knitting, and a reference to the stereotype of cats enjoying playing with yarn.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To Kokone Fuwa, in that both are socially awkward, have something to do with fashion/beauty and are more grounded/level-headed. However, Kokone is capable of interacting with people when it comes to school duties, whereas Mayu is a Shrinking Violet who fears contact in general.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Always nervous and shy around others, to the point where she writes down her self-introduction and rehearses it like she's in a play... at least, until the class gets her talking about her beloved Yuki. Then she's much more confident.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: As Cure Lillian, the frills of her skirt droop down the left side and she has a giant bow on the right side.
  • A Girl and Her X: Mayu and her cat Yuki.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Dotes greatly on her cat, Yuki, often taking pictures of her when struck with Cuteness Proximity-inducing antics.
  • Locked Out of the Loop; Amongst the main cast, she is the only one unaware of the existence of Garugaru aside from the rumors with her narrowly missing out on seeing them until episode 12.
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname "Nekoyashiki" translates to "cat residence", referencing her being Yuki's owner.
  • Nervous Wreck: She can't seem to spend more than a few seconds without Yuki being there, before she goes into a mini-panic attack, and she'll hide herself away from anything she isn't ready to confront. Even her Pre-Asskicking One-Liner has her reassure herself:
Cure Lillian: "I'm not scared, I'm not scared..."
  • New Transfer Student: She transfers into Iroha's class in episode 8.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: Along with Komugi and Iroha, the ribbon on her uniform is pink rather than the dark red the other students have.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted; there was previously a supporting character named Mayu in Futari wa Pretty Cure.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Her dark brown hair turns bright sea-blue when she becomes Cure Lillian.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Her shoulder-length hair done up in a ponytail goes to a lower back-style cut as a Cure.
  • Shrinking Violet: Mayu's a cripplingly shy person, to the point she can't even properly greet someone back. This also makes her unable to speak her mind to Iroha and is what makes Yuki so fiercely protective of her.
  • Single-Issue Wonk: While she is normally shy and nervous, she can talk normally if the topic is about her cat Yuki about whom she talks fondly.
  • True Blue Femininity: While she is officially a green Cure, her sea-green hair and outfit, especially in some early images when oversaturated, can be seen as blue like Cure Marine.

Iroha and Komugi's parents. They run the "Friendly" animal hospital and salon.
  • Kindly Vet: Youko works as a veterinarian in the animal hospital part of Friendly.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike the other characters, who have round, colourful eyes, Tsuyoshi's eyes are more square and cartoony, reminiscent of Yo-kai Watch.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Tsuyoshi has a very muscular build, but usually wears pink clothing, can cook himself, and with his wife runs an animal hospital and salon as the salon owner and pet groomer.
  • Supreme Chef: One of Tsuyoshi's first acts in the first episode is cooking a delicious breakfast for Iroha.

    Satoru Toyama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dgp1ktz_f98f5bc9_971b_4d17_9b39_7e4f592e876c.png
A classmate and friend of Iroha's, who, after discovering that she and Komugi are Cures, uses his knowledge of animals to assist them in confronting the Garugarus.
  • Animal Lover: He's in the Biology Club at school and knows a lot about animals. He also takes care of them, even at school — in episode 8, he's shown caring for a turtle and showing Iroha and Mayu how to feed it.
  • Animal Theme Naming: His last name contains the character for "rabbit", and he owns a pet rabbit named Daifuku.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: He's a decently adorable young boy wearing a pair of glasses.
  • A Boy and His X: Satoru and his rabbit Daifuku.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Due to being their Secret-Keeper, he helps Iroha with helping Komugi adjust to school.
  • Crush Blush: He's implied to have a crush on Iroha, which is shown when she makes him blush by saying she wants to be in the same class with him.
  • Curiosity Is a Crapshoot: Despite Daifuku's odd behavior due to the Garugaru egg, he decides to study it without his pet's presence, but by the time he revisits the egg, it already hatched with him nearly being mauled by the Garugaru.
  • Geek Physiques: Episode 9 insinuates Satoru isn't one for athletics. He gets winded chasing Sho while Komugi and Iroha do not, and he's startled by the ball while playing soccer.
  • Last-Name Basis: He calls Iroha "Inukai-san" despite them being close friends. Satoru may be nervous about being overly informal with her because of his crush.
  • Loophole Abuse: When Mey Mey is afraid that Niko would scold him for letting someone who isn't a Cure know about Niko Garden, Satoru notes that since Niko is missing, Mey Mey cannot be scolded, especially since he needs all the help he can get with restoring Niko Garden.
  • Meaningful Name: Two ways: his given name Satoru is also a verb that can mean "to understand", befitting his vast knowledge about animals, and his surname Toyama translates to '"rabbit mountain", befitting someone who loves rabbits as much as he does and owns one.
  • Mr. Exposition: His role is to explain what kind of animal the Cures are faced with.
  • The Reliable One: He is a good friend to both Iroha and Komugi with the former complimenting his intelligence. He helps by being their Secret-Keeper especially since the duo are horrible liars and his knowledge of animals helps them get closer to them along with formulating plans.
  • Secret-Keeper: He knows that Iroha and Komugi are Pretty Cures since they transformed right in front of him to save his life along with informing him about the existence of Niko Garden afterward.
  • Ship Tease: There are hints that Satoru might have a crush on Iroha, like in episode 1 when he blushes after she praises him for his knowledge and tells him about her wish to be in the same classroom with him, and in episode 3 when he wonders if she doesn't trust him to keep her secret after he finds out that Iroha hides something from him. His profile however outright says he's in love with Iroha, using the character 恋 used to refer to romantic love. Further confirming this is his Crush Filter in episode 11 when they go on a not-date in the mountains.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He wears glasses and is knowledgeable about animals, due to wanting to discover new species when traveling the world one day.

    Daifuku
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dgp1kyu_6ac34f81_b5ba_4533_aef1_189c478a86fb.png
Satoru's pet rabbit.
  • Ambiguous Gender: While some viewers refer to the bunny with male pronouns and he has rough, masculine speech patterns according to Komugi, Daifuku's actual gender hasn't been confirmed so far.
  • Bunnies for Cuteness: An adorable little bunny.
  • Dog Walks You: Or rabbit in this case; When Satoru is inches away from touching a Garugaru egg, he tries to drag his owner away from it. While he doesn't succeed in pulling Satoru away, he does grab his attention with his owner following him out of concern for his behavior.
  • Edible Theme Naming: He is named after the sweet rice-based confectionery of the same name.
  • Hidden Depths: According to Komugi, he talks like a punk despite his apathetic looks.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He usually has a frown on his face, and his eyes are designed to look like they're glaring slightly.
  • Recurring Character: He only makes occasional appearances since Satoru does not always take him with him whenever he goes out.
  • Righteous Rabbit: Even though all animals are startled by the presence of Garugaru, he is still willing to go with Satoru whenever they show up.
  • The Stoic: In contrast to Komugi and Yuki, his face doesn't emote much except when Garugaru appear with his emotions usually being indicated through body language.
  • Undying Loyalty: Truly loves and is dedicated to Satoru. According to Komugi, Daifuku thinks of him as his closest friend and confidant.
  • The Voiceless: Since rabbits rarely make any sound, Daifuku outright lacks a voice actor, with his emotions instead being seen through his body language and facial expressions, although Komugi is still able to understand what he says and translate it for Satoru.
  • When He Smiles: Gives a small smile for a split-second, when Komugi talks to him in episode 7.

    Kiyoshi Babazono

Voiced by: Mitsuru Takakuwa (JP)

Iroha, Mayu, and Satoru's teacher. He's in charge of the equestrian club.
  • Animal Theme Naming: His last name contains the character for "horse". While it's not confirmed if he owns one himself, he still runs the school's equestrian club.
  • Cool Teacher: When Mayu transfers to the school in episode 8, he realizes that Iroha is able to snap her out of her Shrinking Violet nervousness and has Mayu sit next to her.
  • Meaningful Name: The first "ba" in "Babazono" is written with the kanji for "horse". Fittingly, he runs the equestrian club.

    Sho Ikari

Voiced by: Shōhei Komatsu (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wonderfulprecure_shou.png
An athletic boy in Iroha and Mayu's class who wants to defeat Komugi at soccer.
  • Animal Theme Naming: The I in his name uses the kanji for "boar".
  • Apathetic Student: Is shown dozing off during class at one point in episode 9, but is able to get away with this thanks to his seat being at the back of the class.
  • Determinator: After his Epic Fail against Komugi's goalkeeping, he's next seen dragging three tires behind him as he runs in an effort to strengthen his legs and beat her.
  • Friendly Rival: When Komugi transfers to the school in episode 9, she wanders onto the soccer field and blocks his attempt at a goal. So, after her formal introduction, Sho gets fired up and vows he's going to score against her. It doesn't happen, not even once, but he keeps an upbeat attitude pretty much the whole time and it's obvious he respects Komugi's skill.
  • Full-Name Basis: He calls Komugi by her full name "Inukai Komugi" as part of his unknown rivalry towards her.
  • Hot-Blooded: A loud, passionate soccer player who more or less drags Komugi into the goalkeeper position once he meets her, just so he can prove himself the best.
  • Pungeon Master: It's easy to miss, but Sho makes several puns on his name. For example, he challenges Komugi to a "Sho to shoubu" (or, to keep the pun in English, a "Sho-down") on the soccer field.
  • Punny Name: Ikari sounds like the Japanese word for "fury", suiting Sho's passionate rivalry with Komugi.

Niko Garden

    Mey Mey

Mey Mey

A sheep butler from the Niko Garden.
  • Animal Theme Naming: His name is based on the Japanese onomatopoeia for a sheep's bleating.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Is first seen as a Garugaru, specifically the very first one that the Cures fight. Once defeated, the corruption wears off, and he becomes an ally.
  • Character Catchphrase: "That's baaaaaaad!" ("Itsu dameeeee!")
  • Mr. Exposition: He explains Niko Garden's history to the Cures.
  • Starter Villain: Well, sort of. He's not an outright villain, but Mey Mey is first encountered as a huge, ram-like Garugaru, and is the very first one defeated and purified by the Cures.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: He is rather exasperated by Komugi and Iroha, due to them either not listening to him or goofing off when he explains their current situation. Despite Satoru not being a Pretty Cure, he is grateful that the boy is willing to listen to him seriously.
  • Sweet Sheep: He's normally a friendly talking sheep fairy, although he was much more aggressive as a Garugaru.
  • Talking Animal: Can talk like a normal human, being a sheep fairy.
  • Victim of the Week: The first Niko Animal-turned-Garugaru fought by the Precures.

    Kirarin Animals

Voiced by: Misato Matsuoka (JP/Kirarin Rabbit), Yuuko Iida (JP/Kirarin Penguin), Tomoko Ikeda (JP/Kirarin Lion), Yukina Shutou (JP/Kirarin Bear)

Nine special animals from Niko Garden, who were turned into Garugarus along with other Nikoniko Animals. Their magical powers are used to restore Niko Garden and grant the Cures new abilities.
  • Animorphism: When the Cures use their powers, their body part will change to match the animal's power.
  • Bears Are Bad News: As a Garugaru, the Kirarin Bear is a violent brute with the power to smash through stone and old-growth trees in a single blow. It stops being this and becomes Beary Friendly once purified.
  • Beary Friendly: The fourth Kirarin Animal the Cures rescue is a bear.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: All of the Kirarin Animals are battled as corrupted Garugaru versions of themselves before they are purified by the Cures.
  • Carbuncle Creature: They are all small animals with magical powers that have gems on their forehead.
  • Fiery Lion: The third Kirarin Animal the Cures rescue is a lion with a sun-shaped gem on its forehead. Using its power, the Cures gain fiery boots that allow them to run at blazing-fast speeds.
  • Fitness Nut: The Kirarin Bear, once rescued, is shown doing a one-handed push-up in Niko Garden.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: Mey Mey surmises that if all of them return Niko Garden be restored to what it was before and Niko themself might return.
  • Hair-Raising Hare: The Kirarin Rabbit is one of these as a Garugaru, but once purified, it returns to its original Righteous Rabbit self.
  • King of Beasts: The third animal the Cures rescue is a lion.
  • Living MacGuffin: The nine Kirarin Animals have magic powers that can restore Niko Garden from its broken state and grant the Cures special abilities.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted; they share their name with Ciel's actual form Kirarin from KiraKira★Pretty Cure à la Mode.
  • Polar Penguins: The second animal the Cures rescue is a penguin, who as a Garugaru had the power to create ice and after being purified gives the Cures the power of sliding taking on the form of penguin feet with ice acting as skates.
  • Righteous Rabbit: The first animal the cures rescue is a rabbit, who bestows them with Super-Hearing.
  • World-Healing Wave: When they go inside a Kirarin House, a part of the ravaged Niko Garden and its diamond is restored.

    Niko

Niko

The creator of Niko Garden, who went missing alongside many of its animals when the darkness struck.
  • The Ark: The creator of one, since the animals inside Niko Garden once lived on Earth before moving with them to the interdimensional garden.
  • Chekhov M.I.A.: They are the creator of Niko Garden, and went missing along with several of its inhabitants.
  • Egopolis: Niko Garden and its various features are named after them, including Niko Fruits, Niko Animals, Kiraniko Trunk, etc...

Enemies

    Garugarus

Voiced by: Shinya Takahashi (JP) Foreign VAs

The Monster of the Week of this season. They are animals from Niko Garden possessed by dark energy and trapped inside black and yellow colored eggs until they hatch into destructive monsters.
  • Battle Aura: When newly hatched from their egg, a dark, shadowy aura emanates off a Garugaru's body. In Episode 7, the lion Garugaru becomes wreathed in a larger, more fiery aura when "???" commands it to destroy.
  • The Berserker: The evil wolf "???" orders them to destroy "all things that humanity has made", and it shows. Whenever a Garugaru appears, it tries to wreck absolutely everything in its path, and it's only purified when the Cures can calm it down from its berserk rage.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: Garugarus made from Kirarin Animals are almost indistinguishable from normal Garugaru, but they are stronger than ordinary Garigaru.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Originally animals from the Niko Garden, the Garugaru are compelled to attack innocents, typically against their own will.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • Unlike most Pretty Cure monsters of the week, Garugaru aren't shown being created or summoned by the actual villain to do their bidding every week. Instead, they have already been created beforehand en masse. They don't appear completely independent of the villains, though. In Episode 7, a hooded wolf-like character appears to issue commands to the lion Garugaru.
    • While most Monster of the Week are tasked with gathering Macguffins or collecting a source of energy, Garugaru are only tasked to rampage and destroy.
  • Chained by Fashion: They all have metallic bands on their ankles, reminiscent of animals stuck in captivity.
  • Dark Is Evil: They hatch from black eggs with evil-looking "face" patterns on them, they have a shadowy Battle Aura, and they're highly aggressive creatures determined to destroy everything in their path.
  • The Dreaded: All animals go wild or hide away in fear when one of them hatches, with the lion Garugaru in particular being so intimidating that Wonderful is paralyzed with fear.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: On the receiving end of this. All animals know they are bad news, with Daifuku's reaction to Satoru finding one of the eggs they are sealed in being trying to get his owner away from it before he can touch it, and once they "hatch", all animals start going wild at their awakening.
  • Evil Is Bigger: The dark energy made them larger than normal animals with them usually towering over the Cures, although there are a few cases in which the Garugaru is only slightly larger than their original form with the Cures even being able to pick them up with their hands.
  • Fighting from the Inside: While they are compelled to rampage and destroy the human world, some of them are capable of resisting their destructive urges and putting them on hold, which allows Wonderful and Friendy to purify them even before they manage to perform the Friend Liberale.
  • Forced Transformation: They were all inhabitants of Niko Garden abducted and transformed against their will to wreak havoc on the human world.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: Since they are more similar to abused animals than actual monsters, they are not fought directly by the Cures, who instead chase after them to purify them.
  • Incorrect Animal Noise: They can only say "Garugaru", which is based off garuru (the Japanese onomatopoeia for a growl). Even Garugaru based on animals that can't growl, like ostriches and horses, will still say "Garugaru".
  • Meaningful Name: "Garugaru" comes from "garuru", an onomatopoeia for an animal growling.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Once they have been purified, all the damage they caused is also restored.
  • Pokémon Speak: The only thing they can say is "Garugaru", which is how they get their name. Aside from Mey Mey and the Kirarin Animals, when they turn back into Niko Animals, they can only say "Niko".
  • Purple Is the New Black: Their main Color Motif is red and black, but the "black" is really more a shade of dark bluish-purple. Some of the Garugaru have parts of their bodies that are a lighter purple, too, but they're no less evil for it.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: They are primarily colored purplish-black, with red and purple accents.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Their red eyes glow whenever the wolf figure compels them to rampage.
  • Tragic Monster: They were harmless animals from Niko Garden, corrupted by dark energy that turned them into monsters compelled to rampage.
  • Uniformity Exception: Garugarus with gems on their foreheads were originally Kirarin Animals.
  • Verbal Tic Name: Komugi calls them "Garugarus" since that's all they say, with all other characters adopting the terminology.
  • Victim of the Week: In each episode, the Cures have to calm down a Garugaru to turn them back into their original form and return them to Niko Garden.
  • Whale Egg: After being affected by the dark energy, they are trapped inside black/yellow-patterned eggs the size of ostrich eggs, that would eventually hatch into their new monstrous form, regardless of what kind of animal they were before.

"Rise. Roar. Bare your fangs. Destroy this world... and all things that humanity has made!"
A mysterious, hooded, wolf-like villain first seen in Episode 7, who compels the Garugaru to destroy humanity's creations.
  • Big Bad: From his brief appearance in Episode 7, he appears to be the evil force commanding the Garugaru to attack.
  • Evil Overlooker: In his first appearance in Episode 7, his silhouette is shown looming ominously over the Kirarin Lion Garugaru, with only his glowing red eyes to illuminate him.
  • Hate Plague: Possibly. By issuing his commands to the Kirarin Lion Garugaru, it becomes shrouded in a dark aura and goes berserk, implying that he can drive Garugaru even more mad than before.
  • In the Hood: Is shown wearing a dark hooded cloak in his first appearance.
  • My Name Is ???: In the credits of Episode 7, his name is listed only as "???".
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Commands the Garugaru to destroy the world and everything humans have made.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In his first appearance, he's shown as an Evil Overlooker glaring down at the Kirarin Lion Garugaru with glowing red eyes.
  • Savage Wolves: An evil, destructive, wolf-like commander of the Garugaru.
