Necrogrant Black Magic Company (Listed in order of appearance)

    Franz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/franz_0.jpg
I have to get a job before February!
The protagonist. Excellent student, talented summoner, hard worker, and utterly desperate to find employment after graduation thanks to his bad habit of freezing up during interviews.
  • The Ace: He has incredible talent with magic, backed up by training, study, and a drive to excel. It's pointed out that the fact that an obvious genius failed to land a job with any of the dozens of companies he applied to is a sign of how broken the system is.
  • Aerith and Bob: His name is surprisingly mundane when compared to the names of the other characters, even those that do not come from Hell.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Because he's treated kindly by all the employees of Necrogrant, especially his familiar, Serlia, he's completely devoted to them.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He may be a very sweet and sensitive guy, but he has a powerful sense of justice, and he has summoning magic so powerful, he can summon Satan! Or at least his lovable little sister. When he hears about how the "white magic" companies were abusing their employees, he goes and asks her to destroy them, and she complies, not only by making all their dirty laundry public, but hitting their management with horrible nightmares until the management collapses in terror and despair.
  • Book Smart: He does great in class, but he's got almost no street-smarts.
  • Butt-Monkey: Life seems to love watching him squirm.
  • Casual Kink: He once drooled with pleasure at the prospect of being trampled by Nightmare Marey.
  • Chick Magnet: He's kind, helpful, loyal and surprisingly a Sex God, so it's no surprise women throw themselves at him.
  • City Mouse: He has little, if any, knowledge of the wilderness and its dangers due to spending most of his life in the big city and having no experience with nature.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: As he discovers when he's being interviewed by Cercer, president of Necrogrant Black Magic Company.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blonde and a decent young man who treasures his familiars and coworkers.
  • Instant Expert: He has a major knack for taking the black magic he learns through various means and becoming a near-perfect user of said magic, though sometimes it happens accidentally and he unintentionally uses it, like in the case of him gaining Mind's Eye, which caused him to see through everything, from rocks to clothes, and he didn't know why it was happening until somebody explained it to him.
  • In the Blood: Not only does he inherit his father's Harem Seeker tendencies, but he inherited a powerful affinity for Black Magic through his bloodline. And something else, not so nice.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: He's a sweet but socially awkward guy, but when protecting the well-being of others (especially his friends) comes into the equation, the awkward part disappears, leaving a very talented black magic practitioner with a penchant for ideas that are Crazy Enough to Work.
  • Likes Older Women: With the exception of Alienor, most of the girls she hangs out with are older than him, usually by decades.
  • Nice Guy: Very sweet and sensitive. Serlia is madly in love with him as a result.
  • No Social Skills: Why he failed interviews no less than 34 times before he was introduced to Necrogrant by Lisa, the dorm mother of his magic academy. Though it proves downplayed in later chapters with the reveal that he can communicate just fine with people he knows and trusts, but tends to freeze up, stage-fright style, when he's with strangers or under stress.
  • The One Guy: He's the only known male employee at Necrogrant.
  • Sickening Sweethearts: With Serlia, his succubus familiar.
  • Power Incontinence: He is so skilled and powerful with Black Magic that he often loses control.
  • Secret Test of Character: Which he's subjected to in chapters 14 and 15. The town mayor and Nightmare Marey knew the developer offering to buy the land and build a super-mall was up to no good, but didn't tell him, waiting to see how he would decide between money and the livelihood of the indigenous swamp-trolls. He passed with flying colors.
  • Sex God: Omake chapter 5.5 shows that he's more talented in sex than Serlia, a succubus.
  • Their First Time: He and Serlia trade virginities... In chapter 1 and the story only gets more explicit after that. Though it does somehow manage to avoid going full-on hentai...

    Cercer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cerer.jpg
Please come work for us after you graduate!
The president of Necrogrant Black Magic Company
  • Bathtub Bonding: Invoked. In chapter 15, Franz calls out to her at her apartment door, returning the library key after locking up. She does not respond, so he opens the door to see her bathing. Being a gentleman, he immediately turns to leave, and she pulls him in, dragging him into the bath with her. Amazingly for this manga, it's entirely innocent.
  • Benevolent Boss: She treats her employees kindly, offers double the standard wage, and provides excellent living accommodations.
  • Brutal Honesty: Straightforward, honest, and blunt, which is just the way her employees, especially Franz, like it.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Somewhat odd and goofy, but a skilled manager who is quite talented at finding jobs for the people she hires, as opposed to finding people for the jobs she needs filled.
  • Canis Major: Is actually a Cerberus, and is as big as a car. Her humanoid form is a "temporary" body.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: As said so herself, her cute humanoid body is just "temporary" but can return to her true form at will.
  • Genki Girl: Cheerful, upbeat, and full of energy.
  • Guile Hero: Under normal circumstances she doesn't actually have a lot of power magic-wise, so her main way of resolving conflicts personally is to sneak around and manipulate things in order to get the desired outcome.
  • It's Personal: She hates the "work 'em till they drop" culture with undying passion. Her beloved summoner at Necrogrant literally worked himself to death "for the betterment of the company," and he's not alone. The reason Necrogrant is holding on by a thread is that numerous divisions had to be shut down as a result of the staff either quitting because they couldn't take it anymore or dying. When Franz openly declares the intent to "destroy" the so-called white magic companies for treating their temp-workers the same way, she cheers him on.
"Let's break their kneecaps!" (Slasher Smile)
  • Little Bit Beastly: Has dog's ears and tail.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": She's a Cerberus named Cercer.
  • A Mother to Her Men: She treats the employees of Necrogrant as if they're her beloved children, and they're all grateful, especially Franz.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's over 500 years old, but looks like a middle-schooler.

    Serlia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seruria.jpg
I am Serlia, are you my master?
Franz's first familiar, and his favorite bed-partner.
  • Bathtub Bonding: Loves to bathe with Franz.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Is smitten with Franz because he treasures her, despite being his familiar.
  • Berserk Button: Do not insult Franz. When his classmates, especially Drok, slandered him, saying she was a rental, openly stating there's no way he's talented enough to summon a succubus himself, the end result was the summoning of a Lovecraftian horror that tentacle raped the entire class, including the Apathetic Teacher.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: She's a great cook and a lovely girly girl.
  • From Roommates to Romance: The moment she and Franz were put into a dorm together, she feeds him, draws a bath, then barges in on him and offers him "a succubus service." While he initially has some reservations, once his logical concerns are satisfied, he lets her sex him up all she wants...
  • Harem Seeker: Since she's a succubus and feeds on carnal desire, the more girls she can get to sex up Franz, the better, though she makes it a point to remind everyone that she's the one he's going to be most intimate with.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has horns on her head.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: The official English starts by using Selria, but later chapters shift to Serlia.
  • In-Universe Nickname: At some point, people stop calling her Serlia and start calling her Seria.
  • Loveable Sex Maniac: Well, she is a succubus after all, and she's completely adorable.
  • Love at First Sight: The moment she laid eyes on Franz, she fell in love with him, feeling "I would be very happy to serve this person." She's entirely correct.
  • Property of Love: She loves being his familiar and dotes on him in response. When her father tried to arrange her a "marriage interview" with an incubus, she was moved to tears.
  • Shipper on Deck: She finds Alienor and Franz such a cute couple that she openly advocates Franz marry her!
  • Sickening Sweethearts: With Franz. The two of them dote on each other like they're married.
  • Succubus in Love: She's a succubus who falls completely in love with her master Franz.
  • Supreme Chef: She's an excellent cook.
  • Tattoo as Character Type: She has clear markings on her sternum, just below her cleavage. Their significance is still unclear.
  • Their First Time: She trades virginities with Franz.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Of the Hammerspace variety: she keeps her magic staff there, which is as long as her upper body.
  • Winged Humanoid: She has bat-like wings on her back.
  • You Are Worth Hell: Franz happily followed her into hell to scupper her Arranged Marriage to Halberd. He loves her that much.

    Farfistanya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/favistania.jpg
Hello.
Franz's first coach and trainer.
  • Brutal Honesty: Even more than Cercer, and she's proud of it.
  • Commonality Connection: Franz bonds with her instantly when he learns she had an even harder time finding a job than he did.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: "If you've forgotten how to summon imps, we could do the ritual." It Makes Sense in Context.
  • Equivalent Exchange: Traded her breast size for youth. Nobody's complaining.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her hair always covers her right eye, highlighting her quiet and somewhat aloof personality.
  • Indifferent Beauty: Gorgeous and knows it, but does not care, though she still likes being flattered, blushing when Franz says she's still beautiful even though her breasts aren't as big as they used to be.
  • Older Than She Looks: She's been with the company for 57 years at the time of this entry, and she looks like she's in her 20's. Justified by the fact that she traded some breast size for "anti-aging." Considering she made the trade while she was in her seventies, if not older, objectively speaking, it's a good trade.
  • The Quiet One: Unless she's commanding familiars, she tends to speak very quietly, when she speaks at all.
  • Shrinking Violet: The reason she failed 50 interviews when she was graduating magic school.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She comes off as somewhat distant, but shows she's a pretty nice person to those she's close to, especially Franz.

    Crunia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krunia.jpg
Franz, do you have a girlfriend?
A client Franz rescues from a suicide attempt.
  • Driven to Suicide: Her former boyfriend got in serious debt, and when she came to his rescue, he took every penny she had, and every penny her parents gave her, and ran away. Then she lost her job, and then the bills started coming due, so she decided to end it all by jumping off a cliff into a swamp.
  • The First Cut Is the Deepest: Her former boyfriend just used her as a wallet. After he cleaned her out, he fled town to parts unknown.
  • Happily Failed Suicide: Farfistanya had given up on rescuing her, but Franz jumped into the swamp himself and talked her out of it.
  • Here We Go Again!: Franz helps her find a job, and she gets it, but the "white company" that hires her cooks the books, forces her to work 11 hour days, clocking her out early, but working her off the clock until her cleanup tasks are complete, denies her sick days, and threatens her with a lawsuit if she tries to quit, basically trying to work her to death. This makes Franz SNAP.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Franz realized there's no point in rescuing her from a suicide attempt if she's left with no options, so he takes her to Cercer and helps her find work. She's immensely grateful.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Helped out her boyfriend at his darkest hour, and he takes all her cash then disappears. Showed up at her new job with honesty, integrity, and hard work only for the management to basically try to work her to death while paying her as little as possible.
  • The Not-Love Interest: Although she's been in a rather racy Imagine Spot of Serlia's, and she asked if Franz has a girlfriend, she's not ready for sexy shenanigans with him, as of the time this entry was written.

    Tototo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tototo.jpg
Wow! 180 Km/h! You're a genius!
The dragon-rider specialist.
  • The Alcoholic: She loves booze as much as she loves dragon riding, and that's a heck of a lot. In chapter 15, she offhandedly mentions that she'd happily spend her entire paycheck on the next shipment of a certain village's high-quality sake, once it starts going into full production.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: She's prone to doing this thanks to the position of her carrier.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Elves and humans have different lifespans so for her, 93 is just barely reaching the age of adulthood, while 18 is an underage minor. She has to stop and remember that for humans, 18 is the legal age of majority.
  • Delinquents: Used to be one in her youth.
  • Dragon Rider: It's her job, after all.
  • The Dreaded: Bandits and thugs are terrified of her once they know who she is and the gang she's affiliated with, "Yggdrasil".
  • Exposed to the Elements: Despite how cold and windy it is at the cabin of her dragon skeleton, she can stand it mostly fine while occasionally donning a jacket.
  • Fantastic Arousal: She moans in orgasmic pleasure if her ears are so much as breathed on.
  • Home Nudist: Strips naked the instant she sets foot in a house and closes the door. It doesn't even matter if there's company present.
  • Mundane Utility: Turns out a giant flying dragon skeleton makes for a pretty good long-distance hauler.
  • Old Shame: In universe. She's embarrassed about her delinquent past, even though she enjoyed it at the time.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Pale pink hair and a good, kind woman who looks after her juniors.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She knows she's got the looks, and isn't afraid to flaunt them.
  • Stripperific: Even when she is wearing clothing, they don't leave much to the imagination.
  • Three-Way Sex: The chapter she's introduced, she barges in on Serlia and Franz in their hotel bed and sexes them both up, then she and Serlia go to town on Franz. The next morning, he states that it was "heaven" to her delight.

    Nightmare Marey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nightmare_mary.jpg
Thy who'd wake me from mine slumber is thee!
Franz' second familiar.
  • Accidental Truth: You know that cover-story about Franz being descended from a mage that could destroy a country, single-handed, if he got pissed off? It's true! As Franz, Marey, and Serlia learned, first hand, when they went exploring the Franz family store-house.
  • A-Cup Angst: She can get really annoyed at the size of girls with bigger breasts than her.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: She can hand out nightmares like candy, and her very nature makes her a Person of Mass Destruction, but she's actually a sweet girl that just wants some genuine affection.
  • Character Tics: Even after finally getting some good night rest, she's still prone to yawning in most of her scenes.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her fashion choice.
  • Father, I Want to Marry My Brother: She ran up and gave her brother a Love Confession as a child. Her entire family chewed her out for it, and it gave her a serious complex.
  • Flight: She can fly if she wants to.
  • Good Is Not Soft: She is a sweetheart, but when she was given free rein to "destroy" the so-called white-magic companies that were abusing their employees, she infested their management with horrific nightmares that drove them to despair, save one, ironically the one who abused Crunia and had a "pointlessly strong will". She gave that guy a "special" nightmare so horrific, he died of a heart-attack in jail.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: All she wanted from her brother was genuine brother-sister affection, and could not tell the difference between that and romantic love, so she was rejected harshly and told "go find a good man and marry him!" giving her a serious complex. Franz openly accepting her has made her so happy, she doesn't want to go home anymore, and now views Franz and Serlia as family, with the feeling being mutual.
  • Inconvenient Summons: Summoned while she was trying to sleep.
  • The Insomniac: Prior to meeting Franz, she had such a terrible time trying to sleep, due to nightmares of her brother hating her, that she never got enough rest.
  • It's All My Fault: Blames herself for her brother abandoning her, due to the fact that she gave him a love confession as a child.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her brother and Parental Substitute outright abandoned her when she went Father, I Want to Marry My Brother and told her "I will return only after you've fallen in love with a good man and married him." This gave her a major complex that didn't allow her to sleep right until she met Franz, who gave her a Love Confession, and dotes on her with genuine kindness.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: With her powers, she can level entire countries.
  • Power Incontinence: On a couple of occasions, she has accidentally jumped into the dreams of Franz and Serlia.
  • Power Perversion Potential: She likes to jump into Franz' dreams so she can have guilt-free sex with him in there. One night, she accidentally did the same to Serlia, and that resulted in girl on girl sex with the dreaming and completely unaware succubus who mistook her for a gender-bent Franz.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's over 100 yet looks like a child.
  • Red Baron: Combined with Names to Run Away from Really Fast. "Indescribable Nightmare Ancestor."
  • Slave to PR: Her reputation can't bear the thought that she was summoned by a complete neophyte, even if he had detailed instructions, and she was summoned at her weakest, being unable to get a proper night's rest for near a century. So she makes up a cover-story where Franz is actually the long-lost descendant of some insanely powerful wizard that lived 10,000 years ago, who could level continents when he got mad.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Reciting a little poem she found among the Franz family effects awakens the spell Franz's ancestor placed on the family bloodline, a spell designed to wipe out the country Franz and family are living in, and it looks like it's a spell that messes with the economy...Oh, Crap!
  • Winged Humanoid: It can be rather hard to make them out from the frills of her dress, but she does have wings on her back that allow her to fly.
  • Ye Olde Butchered English: Subverted. When she's summoned, she starts speaking this way but then goes "It's a pain to speak like this. Let's speak normally."
  • You Remind Me of X: Franz somehow smells exactly like her big brother does. Hugging him like a body pillow lets her sleep the whole night.

    Alienor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/15_010.jpg
I will beat you today, Franz!
The best black magician of Morco Forest. Paired with Franz and does not like it.
  • Accidental Pervert: After Ceria has her room in Franz's house as a live-in apprentice, she walks in on Franz bathing as he's walking out, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination on both sides. Franz is so embarrassed, he turns beet red from head to toe!
  • Aggressive Submissive: She might be a tsundere most of the time, but in bed she's completely sweet and docile.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Has the biggest pair in the whole story, even bigger than Serlia, and she's acknowledged as quite hot.
  • Country Mouse: She may be inferior to Franz in terms of pure skill with Black Magic, but she outshines him in dealing with the wilderness and its dangers, due to coming from a remote and very rural village.
  • Chuunibyou: Her self introduction is full of over-the-top cheesy self-promotion.
  • Ignorant of His Own Ignorance: She may be the best in Morco Forest, but said forest is a very remote location with few magicians, so she had no actual basis for proper comparison. Seeing Franz shattered her pride, so she has a psychological compulsion to beat him, no matter what, or she can't settle down.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Her name has been translated as either Alienor or Eleanor.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: She feels greatly inferior to Franz, due to seeing the latter with a succubus familiar, which normally takes at least 25 years to earn. As a result, she constantly shouts how "superior" she is to him and keeps trying to outshine him.
  • Mystical White Hair: She's a black magician with pale silver hair.
  • Sore Loser: She can't stand losing, period. She spent the entire orientation period trying, and failing, to beat Franz at something, just to soothe her bruised ego. Sadly, he wasn't even trying to beat her.
  • Supreme Chef: She's the best chef in the series, and that is saying something. Even Serlia can't top her.
  • Tsundere: Of the annoying "wolf-girl" variety. She's too proud and haughty to admit that she actually likes Franz, so she contorts herself into pretzels to give herself an excuse to "reluctantly" show him affection. Franz is savvy enough to see through it.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Of the tsundere variety. She loves to shout self-aggrandizing trash at Franz, but the two of them do make a good team.

    Sansonsue
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/samson.jpg
Pleased to meet you, Franz-kohai
The manager hired by Cercer, mid-term, to open a Black Magic branch at the seaside beach near to Franz's home town.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Being hired by Cercer gave Sansonsue access to Black Magic, so now she can combine Black and Blue magics for special effects. Franz is awestruck seeing it in action.
  • Crime of Self-Defense: After attacking her and her home island for the "crime" of defending the local beach, which is her job, her old co-workers attack her, and when she defends herself and her guests from that, they threaten to sue, calling themselves the innocent party.
  • Expository Pronoun: Gator people, of which she's a member, raise their children identically until age 10, so she refers to herself as "Boku" rather than "Watashi".
  • Fantastic Arousal: Her tail is very sensitive.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": She's a great admirer of Leda and even wants to get her autograph.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She's a gator-person, meaning she's part gator. The only tell signs are her ears and her tail.
  • Pointy Ears: Most of the time they're hidden by her hair, but she has pointy, elf-like ears.
  • Made Out to Be a Jerkass: When she used to work for a Blue Magic company monitoring the beach, she ran head on into laziness, and corruption from her fellow workers and managers. When she reported them through the chain of command, she was told she's the problem. Then the seaside Blue Magic center she used to work for blame her for them going bankrupt, not their own laziness and corruption.
  • Making a Splash: She was born with a proficiency for "Blue Magic" aka, the ability to manipulate water.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Being treated badly by the Blue Magic company she worked for made her turn on them and join Cercer's company, then return and set up a branch in the same area, driving them to bankruptcy.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Her backstory illustrates why monopolies are usually a bad thing. The seaside station she used to work for was so accustomed to being the only game in town that they got lazy, careless, and corrupt, able to tell everyone My Way or the Highway. The moment they got competition, they folded like a house of cards.

    Leda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/25_o_2.jpg
I am at the present, an upright salaryman!
A former thief who now works for Necrogrant as an investigator.
  • Antiquated Linguistics: She refers to herself with the archaic "sessha", fitting for her age and ninja identity.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She agreed to work for Necrogrant after Cercer healed her back to health after she was injured. That Cercer is a Benevolent Boss just sealed the deal.
  • Blood Knight: She loves the thrill of battle, which is why she asks Franz to have sex with her right after a long battle.
  • Eyepatch of Power: She wears an eyepatch over her right eye.
  • Going for the Big Scoop: She uses her ninja skills to investigate and find information for her articles.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Easily identified by her cross-shaped scar on her left cheek.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: She's so loud while having sex with Franz the local villagers confuse her with a deer.
  • Just Like Robin Hood: Used to be a Gentleman Thief, until she was hired by Cercer after she was injured.
  • Ninja: Despite being a former thief, she acts and dresses like a ninja.
  • Older Than They Look: She's probably the most senior employee at Necrogrant after Cercer, but doesn't look much older than Franz.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: She has a tendency of showing up unexpectedly thanks to her ninja skills.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Her strong sense of justice means she has no tolerance for thieves, scammers and abusive companies.

    Eltaya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/21_n_73.jpg
A vampire noble lady and a sales rep of Necrogrant.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The alcoholic vampire happens to be very good at networking people and improving customer service.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She's constantly shown with her vampire teeth as snaggletooths.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She loves drinking almost as much as Tototo
  • Hemo Erotic: She was already interested in Franz, and after tasting his blood she falls for him.
  • Non-Idle Rich: She found her life as a wealthy vampire aristocrat to be dreadfully boring, which is why she decided to get a job, ending up in sales before eventually being hired by Necrogrant.
  • Pointy Ears: She unsurprisingly has them and she's a vampire.
  • The Social Expert: So many years as a sales rep have made her really good at reading people and helping them give great customer service.
  • Vampires Are Rich: Serlia mentions vampires are the wealthy aristocracy of Hell, and Eltaya comes from one of those families.
  • Winged Humanoid: Like Marey and Serlia, Eltaya has wings on her back to fly.

    Muyan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/21_o_6.jpg
I'm sorry!
A young woman who joins Necrogrant to get revenge on the White Magic industry for dismissing her.
  • Apologizes a Lot: She's so shy and insecure she apologizes for every little mistake she makes.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's very cute and her clumsiness doesn't detract from her capabilities.
  • Prone to Tears: She's very prone to blushing and crying.
  • Revenge: She wants revenge on all the White Magic companies that rejected her due to screwing up her interviews.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's pretty capable, but gets so nervous at interviews she blushes and flubs her words.
  • When She Smiles: Finally gives a genuine smile after being hired, and she's adorable.
  • You Remind Me of X: The reason why Cercer wanted Franz to be with her at Muyan's interview is because she clearly reminds her of Franz, and Franz himself notices it too.

    Gudamal
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/10_o_57.jpg
I'm a researcher!
Gudamal Polozwana is a demon girl researcher who looks for new methods to revolutionize the application of Black Magic.
  • Child Prodigy: She's young by demon standards and she's a true genius who even got to the most prestigious university in Hell with no difficulties.
  • Cute Oversized Sleeves: Since she's so small, her sleeves cover her hands most of the time, adding to her cuteness.
  • Hates Being Touched: Not necessarily out of dislike and more due to inexperience with other people and her isolated lifestyle.
  • Horned Humanoid: Like other demons, she has some curved horns on the sides of her head.
  • Idiot Hair: She has a prominent curved cowlick on top of her head.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Her appearance makes people mistake her for a boy half the time, as she complains.
  • Loss of Inhibitions: She decided to use a lust-inducing magic circle for her research, so when she and Franz finally make it work she can't stop herself.
  • Manchild: For a researcher with a PHD and 50 years of experience, she's pretty emotional and acts more like the young child she looks.
  • Older Than They Look: She looks like a child but is over 150 years old.
  • Token Mini-Moe: She's even younger-looking than Cercer and Marey, despite being an adult. Franz can even lift her with no problem.

Others:

    Lisa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lisa_1.jpg
You're terrible at interviews aren't you?
Magic Academy's dorm mother, and the one who introduces Franz to Cercer.
  • Bit Character: Her appearances are few, far between, and short.
  • Navel Window: Her shirt is opened a little to show her navel
  • One Degree of Separation: She's Cercer's friend. How that came to be is anyone's guess.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: In the aftermath of the duel between Drok and Franz, she made both of them clean up the mess.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: If not for her, Franz wouldn't have even known that Cercer was hiring, and it's not likely he would have gotten the job.
  • So Proud of You: While shocked at first that Franz now has a harem, she's proud of him for becoming a confident and experienced black magician while remaining the kind person she knows.

    Drok
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drok.jpg
I can't stand the existence of another prodigy to challenge me!
A haughty classmate who could not stand Franz having a Succubus familiar, and being a talent to rival his own.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Is (or was) a baron and he's despicable.
  • The Bet: Swore to give Franz his noble title if he lost the duel. In return, Serlia promised to be his familiar for a week if Franz lost.
  • Curbstomp Battle: On the wrong end. Serlia summoned a Lovecraftian horror to deal with his golem. Result: Black Comedy Rape on Drok and everyone else in the class, including the teacher.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Challenging a guy who has a succubus familiar, when succubi are also summoners wasn't bound to end well.
  • Feeling Oppressed by Their Existence: Which he lampshades. He feels so "oppressed" by the thought that there might be another talented individual that could rival him, that he has to crush the guy, personally.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Wears glasses and is a royal jerk, at best.
  • Light Is Not Good: He's a "white magician" and, at best, he's a total jerk.
  • Marionette Master: Summons and controls a golem.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is "Drok" which is an anagram of "dork", and he's obnoxious.
  • One-Shot Character: Only appears in one chapter, gets trounced by Serlia and then disappears from the story.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Formerly a baron, and a petty dork who can't stand the idea that someone, somewhere, might be able to rival him.

    Lidia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lydia_52.jpg
Seria, you've gotten sensitive! Your master must be giving you a lot of loving!
Serlia's older half-sister.
  • Bearer of Bad News: Was sent by her father to tell Serlia that she was being forced into an Arranged Marriage with Halberd.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Was just as opposed as Serlia and Franz to the whole succubus matchmaking session between Serlia and Halberd, because the idea of being forced to marry a guy she never met was making Serlia cry.
  • The Gadfly: Loves to tease people just to get a reaction.
  • Good Bad Girl: She's a good, kind woman, but she's sexually loose, even by succubus standards.
  • Skinship Grope: Loves to grab Serlia's breasts and grope them like crazy.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks very much like Serlia, only with purple hair and different-shaped horns.

    Halberd
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/halberd_0.jpg
Say after me, I, Serlia, will turn over my inheritance to Halberd!
An incubus Serlia was sent to marry.
  • The Casanova: He's seduced over 1000 women.
  • Charm Person: When he can't woo a woman with words, he uses mind-domination magic on her.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Very charming when he's getting his way, or thinks he's getting his way, but he's utterly detestable, and quick to drop the act when things blow up in his face.
  • Gold Digger: All he really wanted from Serlia was access to her family's wealth, her well being was irrelevant. He even used mind-domination magic to magically compel her to verbally sign them over, or tried to.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has horns on his head.
  • Identical Stranger: Aside from the horns and wings, he looks almost identical to Franz. His personality, however, is completely evil and depraved.
  • Pædo Hunt: He's a raging pedophile.
  • Really Gets Around: Deconstructed. He's slept around with over 1000 women, but it left him jaded and cruel, turning him into a pedophile who lusts after little girls that are too innocent to give him the flak he deserves.
  • Winged Humanoid: Has wings on his back.

    Serlia's father
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/olibia.jpg
No! I'm not stopping the match-making session!
The father of Serlia and Lidia.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: As an incubus, he has no hang-ups about discussing the nitty-gritty of the sex-lives of his close family among mixed company. Franz internally points out that humans wouldn't do that.
  • Easily Forgiven: Doesn't even apologize for trampling his daughter's feelings and putting her in a dangerous situation with Halberd. He just sighs happily at dodging a bullet when Halberd's criminal intent is exposed because he personally wasn't harmed by it, and he still gets a blanket pardon from Franz and company. Though Marey points out that if he doesn't shape up and tries something like that again, she will be most upset, which scares him straight.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Refused to tolerate Serlia and Franz being in a committed relationship, aside from the sacrosanct nature of the summoner's contract, and tried to break them up to force both of them into relationships with the opposite sex of their own species, and he's wroth with fury that neither Franz nor Serlia were pleased at this.
  • Happily Married: Is happily married to Serlia's mother, whom he says she takes after.
  • I Want Grandkids: The reason why he pushed Serlia so hard into an Arranged Marriage with Halberd. He states that humans and succubi can't produce children.
  • No Name Given: His name is never mentioned.

    The paladin of urban development
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paladin_8.jpg
It's the villager's decision!
A self-proclaimed government official offering to buy the village of Fundville to build a super-mall.
  • Conman: He's not really a government official, nor has he gotten any permits to build anything. He goes from village to village, building empty facades and then fleeing, purely to move large amounts of money around.
  • Expressive Hair: His facial hair changes depending on his mood.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Gets arrested off-screen.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: He offers Franz 100 gold coins, enough to live comfortably the rest of his life, if he sells the village, and gets hostile when he's turned down.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Flees the moment his scam is exposed.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: He considers the trolls, or any indigenous people, as non-people, of no merit whatsoever, and is enraged that Franz cares about their well-being.

    Howahowa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hoahoa.jpg
"Howahowa likes Lord, Grr!"
A swamp-troll that happens to live in the swamps near the village Franz gained along with Drok's baron title.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She's somewhat heavyset but very much cute.
  • Cute Little Fang: She has a single fang sticking out of her upper left lip at all times. It's also the only actual way to tell she's a troll and not human.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's a troll and she's adorable.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Apparently, her culture doesn't cover why showing gratitude by doing a lot of erotic stuff to a guy could be a bad thing.
    Franz: That's enough!
    Howahowa: That's enough, what? Grr
  • Lecherous Licking: In gratitude to Franz for saving her swamp from an unscrupulous developer, she licks him down and nibbles his ears. She would apparently have done more, but Franz stopped her.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: Everywhere she goes, she's constantly barefoot. At first it seemed like a case of Barefoot Poverty, since she initially only had ragged clothing to wear in the swamp, but when she shows up again working at a restaurant wearing actual good clothes, she's still not wearing shoes.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's over 350 years old.
  • Verbal Tic: "Grr".
  • You No Take Candle: She's the only one who can speak among her people, apparently, and she speaks only in broken sentences.

    Elzered the Immolated
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ezelred.jpg
Our industry is on the decline, so we need to hire some flunkies.
The president of the Black Magic Association (Not affiliated with Necrogrant Black Magic Company)
  • Did Not Think This Through: Chapter 16 reveals a couple of things.
    • He's responsible for putting the summoning ritual for summoning "Indescribable Nightmare Ancestor" in the beginner's guide to black magic as a "joke," believing nobody would succeed.
    • He hosts the cross region summit for the black magic association in a "Haunted House" to weed people out despite the industry being desperate for new people in the first place.
  • Dramatic Irony: Speaks about the fact that he placed the summoning spell for Nightmare Marey in the beginner's guide, saying it's impossible to summon her, not realizing that she's in the audience, having already been summoned by Franz.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Sets up the meeting for the new employees so they can network in a Haunted House, planning to scare off a few who padded their resumes, or weren't up to snuff. His first test weeded out 13 new recruits, and there weren't that many to begin with.
  • The Magnificent: Even expects people to use "The Immolated" as a nickname.
  • Pointy-Haired Boss: In addition to his Did Not Think This Through entry, he acts as if people are beating down the door to join the black magic industry, despite admitting that it's on the decline and knowing full well its bad reputation. Then when he sets up pairs, he puts Franz together with Eleanor, despite the fact he's well aware that she's going out of her way to try and one-up him, even humiliating herself by tripping all over herself, and lastly, sends two man teams of new recruits up against a cockatrice, which he states will turn them into stone, with a promised reward of a chicken dinner if they succeed, and the expected punishment of bread-crumbs for dinner if they fail. As a bonus, close-ups show that his beard and the hair atop his head are also pointy.

    Franz's parents

Common to both:

  • No Name Given: They're never referred to by their first names.
  • Open-Minded Parent: They don't mind that Franz has a harem. In fact, Franz's father is actually envious.

Franz's father

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dad_26.jpg
My son, surrounded by beautiful women... I'M SO ENVIOUS!
  • Covert Pervert: Which both he and his wife lampshade. He's especially fond of porn in all stripes, from "little sister" to "big-breasted neighbor."
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: What he first appears to be, by warning Franz to focus on his studies and not be distracted "by chasing around some woman's ass!" In reality, he was reading a porn mag and just said the first thing that came to mind to get Franz to leave the room as soon as possible.
  • Harem Seeker: Before he got married to Franz's mother, he very, very much wanted a harem of his own, but never got one. He would like one now, but his Clingy Jealous Girl wife won't stand for it.
  • Henpecked Husband: Justified. His wife can, and will, threaten him with a knife if he steps out of line.
  • Porn Stash: Which he placed in his son's room without the latter's knowledge. Franz and Serlia find it, and Franz's mom is not too pleased, in fact, she forces him to confess by threatening him with a knife!

Franz's mother

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mom_60.jpg
What did you say about a harem, DEAR?!
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She knows she married a Covert Pervert, and it doesn't bother her. Fantasies are fantasies, after all. Mentioning bringing in a real-life woman, on the other hand, even a succubus familiar, makes her murderous, and Franz's father begs for mercy.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Her response to learning her husband hid a Porn Stash in their son's bedroom, without his knowledge, was enough to merit threatening her husband with a knife!
  • I Want Grandkids: She's tickled pink that Franz has himself a harem, because she's looking forward to the pitter-patter of little feet.
  • Supreme Chef: She's an excellent cook.
  • Yandere: She's amiable most of the time, but she's crazy jealous towards her husband. The mere mention of harem seeking merits a Death Glare. Hiding a porn stash in her son's room, which is found by her son's harem, causes her to threaten her husband with a knife!

    Garbera
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garbera.png
Thank you for picking me up, Franz!
A zombie girl Franz, Serlia and Nightmare Marey find collapsed on the street and offer aid.
  • Attractive Zombie: A zombie and a sweet girl.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: For starters, she was in an unmarked grave and then turned into a zombie and put to work in a sweat-shop, for unpaid labor.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Since she was forced to labor thanklessly for who knows how long, she doesn't recognize how it feels to hear genuine gratitude.

    Vanita Zeal
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vanita_8.png
I will have my revenge, bwahahaha!
The necromancer who "created" Garbera, as one of many, to run a factory as a sweatshop, using slave-labor to corner the market with cheap, inferior goods, purely to bankrupt the local businesses.
  • All Women Are Lustful: Even by the standards of the story, Vanita always wants to do kinky stuff with Franz in exchange for helping him.
  • The Atoner: After being made to see the error of her ways, and Franz offering to be her friend and help her make up for her actions, she's started genuinely atoning for everything she put her zombie workers through.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Slave labor to swamp the market with cheap, inferior goods, purely for the sake of crushing the local businesses? Hello, Chinese Communist Party! And for bonus points, she decorates herself and her business with plenty of Chinese imagery and symbolism.
  • Dystopia Justifies the Means: She touts herself as "doing the right thing" because she exploits slave labor to get far more profit than Cercer's company.
  • Fantastic Racism: Hates all humans because she was foolish enough to hire known thieves and let herself be shocked that they stole from her!
  • The Farmer and the Viper: According to Cercer, she used to be known as "the saint" because she went out of her way to help those in dire straits. Unfortunately, among those in dire straits were known thieves. Three times she hired them to help with her business, and took clearly insufficient measures to properly vet them or prevent recidivism - and has the gall to be surprised that known criminals commit crimes.
  • Getting Smilies Painted on Your Soul: She slaps any and all undead who rebel or complain about their never-ending work schedule with talismans that compel them to smile and work, and pumps her factory with hypnotic musak that constantly proclaims how labor is fun.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Following Franz and Co. managing to shut down her business, and Franz getting through to her about how she could do better with her abilities, she gives herself up to pay for her crimes, along with becoming a close acquaintance of Franz through being "punished' in order to make up for what she put him through specifically.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: When she first opened up businesses in the city, she went out of her way to hire thieves and is shocked that they robbed her blind! No less than three times!
  • Hot Witch: Without the mask and after undergoing her Heel–Face Turn, her attractiveness is highlighted.
  • Kinky Spanking: Makes Franz spank her while she apologizes to all the undead she mistreated.
  • Madden Into Misanthropy: Self-inflicted. She hired thieves, and they robbed her blind, three times, and then she gave up on humanity.
  • Never My Fault: She blames humanity as a whole for the fact that she got robbed repeatedly. She refuses to accept the fact that she hired known thieves without taking sufficient precautions against them stealing from her.
  • Revenge Before Reason: She wants to avenge herself on humanity because she chose to hire known thieves, and the thieves, true to their nature, stole from her.
  • The Rival: To Cercer.
  • Strawman Political: She's a stand-in to condemn Communist China's business practices.
  • They Just Dont Get It: She was robbed blind no less than three times before she decided to stop hiring known thieves to work for her, and then she decided to condemn all humanity.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: She has a major kink for being "punished" by cute guys that are younger than her, with Franz taking on the role of "punisher" after stopping her business.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Combined with Loophole Abuse. She exploits the fact that undead are property in the eyes of the law to legally use slave labor.
  • Wizards Live Longer: She's a witch and tells Franz it's been 150 years since the last time she had a man 'punish' her.
