A common seal in Sarkic grimoires
Original creator: Metaphysician
Nälkä (near universally referred to as Sarkicism from those outside the religion) is a large system of anomalous beliefs attributed to the teachings of a "Grand Karcist Ion". In Sarkic mythology, Grand Karcist Ion was a Daevite slave and the leader of a slave revolt, in which he usurped control over the deity Yaldabaoth. Ion then led a massive conquest through Eurasia, spreading Sarkicism throughout the world under the Kalmaktama Empire, meaning "deathless". Following the death of the Deathless Empire, Sarkicism would evolve into many different forms, with two main branches: Proto-Sarkicism from the empire's remnants that stayed close to their roots, and Neo-Sarkicism from the new generations that allowed themselves to change.

Adherents of Sarkicism have a central core belief involving Apotheosis, Will, Theophagy, Sacrifice, and the right of organic manipulation. Biological anomalies are commonly seen with Sarkic Cults, and most Sarkic anomalies (including other anomalies such as dimensional manipulations) are directly harmful to the peaceful world. The central goal of Sarkicism seems to be apotheosis for humanity, and this represents the threat of an SK-class dominance shift or even an XK-class end-of-the-world scenario.

A list of Sarkicism's appearances can be found here, and those involved in the Sarkic-centric canon In Memoria, Adytum can be found here.

    In general
  • Almighty Idiot: Some of the sects interpret Yaldabaoth as this, that despite being as powerful as it is it has the mind of a simple beast.
  • Always Chaotic Evil: Subverted for Sarkicism as a whole, where an abundant wealth of good Proto-Sarkics. However, Neo-Sarkics still get portrayed as hilariously amoral with no positive traits to them.
  • Ambiguous Situation: As normal per se the canon. One of the most notable SCPs, 2480, makes the claim that indigenous South Americans see Sarkic entities as a foreign disease, and this is corroborated by some of the Anthropological Guides on Sarkicism claiming an arrival of noted groups in the New World as a byproduct of colonialism. However this article claims a Sarkic presence in Ancient Mesoamerica, and a few SCPs (4772, 4036) allude to an ancient presence in Oceania.
  • Animal Motifs: Russian authors tend to depict Sarkicists with cervine features (they apparently translated the term "reindeer-folk of Ady-um" a little too literally).
  • Arch-Enemy: To the Church of the Broken God, or as they would call it, "Followers of MEKHANE". This is largely one-sided on the Church's behalf.
  • Been There, Shaped History: According to documents accompanying SCP-2406, they are responsible for the Bronze Age Collapse.
  • Berserk Button: As noted on its hub, the name Sarkicism is actually a pejorative term coined by Mekhanists and adopted by other anomalous organizations. The members refer to their belief system as "Nälkä", meaning "hunger", and calling them "Sarkic" to their face is basically heresy.
  • Black-and-Gray Morality: In the conflict between them and the Church of the Broken God, the Sarkics (aside from a few scattered communities) are the Black while the Church of the Broken God are the Gray.
    • Exists in the religion itself, with Proto-Sarkism (gray) and Neo-Sarkism (black).
  • Black Speech: Sarkicism has its own language named the Adytite language. It is a mix of Proto-Uralic, Indo-European, and an alien language believed to have originated from non-human vocal chords, referred by the Foundation with the Greek word "chaos-tongue". The end result is a vaguely-Hungarian but totally alien nightmare.
  • Blue Blood: Neo-Sarkicism puts emphasis on a caste system, with the more influential families being referred to having "black blood".
  • Bio Punk: As the antithesis of the Church of the Broken God, their general theme is based around biological manipulation, though it's less "Technology" and more "Monstrous Abomination".
  • Breakout Character: Sarkicism as a GOI were initially a counterpart to the Church of the Broken God, but have since been fleshed out into an independent organization with its own history and culture.
  • Dark Is Evil: Seem to have an obsession with darkness and black (one of their saints has explicit domain over darkness, anything non-organic they build is black, their idea of "blue blood" is "black blood", et cetera) which matches their atrocious behaviour. You can easily tell the good ones apart by how they instead focus on bioluminescence and describe their prophet as "light".
  • Dark Is Not Evil: More recent additions to the Sarkic mythos showcase more benign, sometimes even benevolent facets of the Sarkic religion: see 4036, a Polynesian nation-state that actively cooperates with the Foundation within its borders, the Vaśńa people in the Arctic who mostly just want to be left alone; 4140, a Karcist from the original uprising who performed a Heroic Sacrifice in the name of humanity in order to seal away an Eldritch Abomination...
  • Dark Messiah: Grand Karcist Ion is revered as a straight example by followers of proto-Sarkicism, who will bring about Adytum and turn the world into a paradise for his followers. Neo-Sarkicist believers have a more indifferent view of Ion, viewing him simply as being a powerful mortal who was able to obtain apotheosis, and another can be free to challenge and overthrow him if possible.
  • Eating the Enemy: The Proto-Sarkic cults don't worship Yaldabaoth, and see it as anathema to all of creation. To combat it, they practice Theophagy — literally "eating god".
  • Eldritch Abomination: Sarkics see the true gods as mindless, amorphous beings of flesh. In turn, they cultivate insanity-inducing fleshy horrors like grapes.
  • Eldritch Location: Adytum, the Daevite capital until it was taken over by the Kalmaktama Empire. Adytum was displaced from this universe in the aftermath of Ion's revolt and is now a twisted domain under the control of Yaldabaoth. Some followers of Sarkicism see Adytum as their "heaven", and their ultimate goal is to reintegrate the city into Earth so they can slay Yaldabaoth themselves and assume control of it.
  • Eviler than Thou: In spite of all of its horrors, Sarkicism does have its fair share of Evil Virtues like the blood bond between its members. The same could not be said for SCP-2408, the former Sarkic Cult community in Moscow transformed by the power-hungry Otari "Zver'" Iosava into "The Hunter's Black Lodge", an anomalous criminal syndicate that follows Sarkicism in name only. The flesh anomalies are employed as tools of profit and assassination as they traffic bioweapons and terrorize their enemies, without even anything remotely good in their motivation. It is noted that the old elements of Sarkicism in the sect, the Great Mothers, disowned the current generation of the Moscow sect. The reaction from the Mafiya is to have all of them butchered.
    • Neo-Sarkites in general are usually this compared to the Proto-Sarkites.
  • Evil Is Visceral: Is it ever. They are generally portrayed as one of the more sinister and antagonistic groups towards the Foundation and humanity as a whole, and body horror is their whole shtick. SCPs related to them are meaty and gutsy.
  • Evil Virtues: Though being a Religion of Evil they do carry virtues that can be seen as admirable. They carry strong family ties and put emphases on community and individualism depending on the sects. In addition the religion even has patron saints that carry virtues such as wisdom, love, strength, and justice. Though considering the religion's end goal, almost none of their positive virtues apply to outsiders of the cult.
  • Fantastic Caste System:
    • Ozi̮rmok — Also translated as "Grand Karcist". With only one, the highest title is reserved for the prophet Ion.
    • Klavigar — Also translated as "High Karcist", and analogous to "archpriest". There are four in total, each the closest of the Ozi̮rmok's followers.
    • Karcist — The spiritual and secular leaders of Nälkä.
    • Võlutaar — Advisers to a Karcist. Predominantly female among Proto-Sarkic cults, where it is synonymous with "wise woman".
    • Zend — A middling rank of the Neo-Sarkic hierarchy, having a degree of power and protection unlike the Orin. Prominent in Neo-Sarkicism, as the rank of Zend is not recognized by most Proto-Sarkics.
    • Orin — The lowest rank of the Neo-Sarkic hierarchy, and default rank for outsiders entering the belief. Like Zends, Orins are commonly not accepted by xenophobic Proto-Sarkics.
  • Flesh Versus Steel: The "Flesh" side in the battle between the Sarkic Cults and the Church of the Broken God.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: They were formed from the abused slaves of the Daevite Empire after it's destruction at the hands of Ion.
  • The Hedonist: Followers of Neo-Sarkicism heavily believe that should an individual will it, they have the right to attain and indulge in everything they desire, no matter how depraved.
  • Hijacking Cthulhu: Sarkic beliefs center around the fact that God (and possibly all gods) is/are uncaring, Blind Idiots who only exist to devour reality after reality, and they view themselves as parasites feeding off of their own god in an attempt to kill it. In doing so, they gain the power to manipulate flesh.
  • Humanoid Abomination: The Karcists, the leaders of Sarkic communities, essentially become this through their practices. They are biologically immortal and only sometimes take on a human form.
  • Husky Russkie: Sarkicism originated in the area that would later become Russia (Moscow is a holy site for them), and many of its followers are either Russian or Eastern European. They're social darwinists obsessed with becoming stronger through adversity.
  • Indo-European Alien Language: Or rather, Uralic.
  • Interfaith Smoothie: Mainly based on Gnosticism, mixed with concepts from texts on Alchemy by Zosimos. Various branches borrow ideas or motifs from things such as cults presented in the works of H. P. Lovecraft (the Esoteric Order of the White Worm), Hinduism (The Vātula), and even nature worship and hippie culture (the so-called "Granola Sarkicism" that's shown up in a couple of tales).
  • Lovecraftian Superpower: Sarkicism is based entirely around the concept that flesh is yours to do with as you please.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • The name they use for themselves, Nälkä, is a Finnish word that means " To Hunger". Befitting a religion that's central tenet is God-Eating.
    • "Sark" comes from σάρξ ‎(sárx), which means "Flesh" in Ancient Greek. "Sarkic" is also the lowest state of human nature in Gnosticism, which contrasts with the Church of the Broken God's many similarities to higher levels of Gnosticism.
  • Religion of Evil: More or less subverted. While the Church of the Broken God and the Fifth Church are Blue-and-Orange Morality at best, the Sarkic Cults have the very simple and understandable goal of instigating an SK-Class dominance shift and conquering the world. However, the dogma itself is not inherently evil and there are plenty of peaceful communities such as SCP-2815, Sarvi, and SCP-4036.
  • Sacred Scripture: The Sarkic holy book, the Valkzaron.
  • Sons of Slaves: Their origin — a charismatic slave named Ion obtained Lovecraftian Superpowers and led a rebellion against his Daevite overlords, ultimately establishing his own empire using his powers.
  • The Symbiote: Akuloths, "His Sacred White Worms". Akuloths are symbiotic organisms found in the bodies of both Sarkites and Sarkic organisms that they act as a secondary immune system, protecting the host against disease as well as greatly increasing their regenerative abilities.
  • Technophobia: Followers of proto-Sarkicism have a distinct dislike of technology, formed mostly out of religious belief and superstition. However neo-Sarkicism followers lack such a phobia, openly embracing using technology should it ever prove to be convenient or desirable.
  • They Look Just Like Everyone Else!: Unlike the more rural and isolated proto-Sarkic sects, the neo-Sarkic followers live freely in populated areas, able to completely blend in with the general populace.
  • Überwald: Most Sarkic SCPs are found in Eastern Europe and Russia (its place of origin), and frequently incorporate elements of local folklore.
  • Was Once a Man: Evidently, all of their biotechnology (called a halkost). It comes from a combination of selective breeding and magical genetic manipulation.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: By devouring/freeing Yaldabaoth's power and instigating an SK-Class dominance shift, they're hoping they can become gods while making the Earth a paradise.
  • White Sheep:
    • SCP-2815, the first and so far only benign Sarkic cult community yet discovered. They use their fleshcraft to create fruit and donor blood and organs which they distribute via the Manna Charitable Foundation and as far as the SCP Foundation has found they're completely harmless (even the exploration log is relatively uneventful, with not a single death or even descent into madness). Even the SCP Foundation's partner in exterminating The FLESH, the Global Occult Coalition, agrees there isn't enough evidence to warrant the expense of neutralizing the whole community (who are still inbred cannibal occultists who are "tricking" people into eating human flesh fruit, mind you).
    • SCP-4197 is Doctor Sarah Veers, an American surgeon that learned Sarkic fleshcrafting techniques for the purpose of providing life-saving healthcare in third-world countries.
    • The elder in a small fishing community in SCP-6013 just uses fleshcrafting to rip all the microplastics and pollution out of a fish, claiming that's all it has to be, and sniffs at the idea that they have fleshcrafted demons swimming around. (There is an ancient Sarkic Doomsday Device in the sea somewhat nearby, but it's not their fault and they'd be some of its first victims if it ever woke up).

Proto-Sarkicism

    Church of the Eternal Mother

SCP-4476-1 - La Famille Natau

The Natau family (French Creole: Famille Natau, designated SCP-4476-1) is a small village that lives in the bayous of Louisiana, operating as a pregnancy-devoted denomination of Sarkicism titled the Church of the Eternal Mother. Guided to the Americas by Karcist Meksa in the fall of the Bronze Age, the family is now led by elderly yet fertile matriarchs calling themselves Manma Natau.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Are SCP-4476-1A reincarnations, or do they just have the memories of their genetic source?
  • The Assimilator: New SCP-4476-1A are made from the stolen uteruses of outsiders, and retain the memories of the original women.
  • Baby Factory: The Manma Natau (SCP-4476-1A). At all times, at least one of the Manma Natau are pregnant, at which point they are called the Manma Nutaa (likely from the Late Adytite nüta, meaning "shaman" or "sorceress")
  • Bold Explorer: The family's ancestors came to North America following the Siege of Gyaros, a crippling battle from the Adytite-Mekhanite war, having sailed their kiraak overseas as they were unable to return to the fallen Kalmaktama Empire.
  • Breeding Cult: Pregnancy is highly regarded by the Natau, no matter how the children come out.
  • Conjoined Twins: Of the vestigial variety. Most of the villagers have large tumorous growths as a result of fetus in fetu, which they call "the Unborn".
  • Mystical Pregnancy: Who impregnates the Manma Natau and how they haven't reached menopause is unknown.
  • One Degree of Separation: Geographically, they are very close to the Neo-Sarkic Sabatier-Duvernay family, but they are distanced by centuries of history and culture.
  • Swamps Are Evil: The family lives in the bayous south of New Orleans.
  • Womb Horror: Seen after what happened to Dr. Isabelle Beaumont, new SCP-4476-1A are made from the stolen uteruses of outsiders.

    Church of the Red Harvest

SCP-2133-1 - Church of the Red Harvest

The Church of the Red Harvest (designated SCP-2133-1) is a village of terse turnip farmers living in the northern Ural Mountains.

    The Șolomonari

The Șolomonari

The Șolomonari (also called the Zgrimțieș or Hultan) are a vague culture group found in the Carpathians of Romania, descended from the Proto-Thracian subgroup of the Dacians. Due to a history of melding cultures and a possibly-complete genocide, the definition of the Șolomonari is difficult to discern. Their ancestors' xenophilia is recognized as the start of Neo-Sarkicism and Nälkä's westward expansion.
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy
    • The Șolomonari were closely tied to or in fact were Zalmoxis (Greek: Ζάλμοξις), a cult amongst the Dacians and Gets of the late 1st millennium BCE.
    • The Scholomance (Romanian: Șolomanță or Solomonărie), a fabled Wizarding School run by The Devil in Romanian folklore, is in fact a Șolomonari stronghold located in the Southern Carpathians.
  • Court Mage: Some Șolomonari served as court magicians in medieval Hungary to influence their nobles. This even lead to the creation of a Mystery Cult among the nobility: the Esoteric Order of the White Worm.
  • Genocide Survivor: Discussed. In the 15th century, the Șolomonari were subjected to a genocide at the hands of Hungarian voivode Hunyadi János. The Foundation is unsure if the Șolomonari alive today are either the descendants of the survivors heavily influenced by the local folklore, or if they're unrelated Romanians who revived the identity of an extinct ethnic group.
  • The Man Behind the Man: The Șolomanari were a strong covert influence that held power over many boyars of medieval Wallachia, Moldavia, and most notably the Gutkeled clan from the Kingdom of Hungary. It wasn't until Hunyadi that they were fiercely routed out from their political hold.
  • Our Mages Are Different: In Romanian folklore, a Șolomonar is a commoner who was recruited or kidnapped into learning black magic. Said Șolomonari ride zmeus or balaurs and control the weather, causing rain, thunder, or hail.
  • Überwald: A given since they live in Transylvania.

    The Vaśńa

The Vaśńa

The Vaśńa is a culture group located in Scandinavia, difficult to differentiate from local Sámi people. One such Vaśńa community is Sarvi, a village on the coast of Lake Inari in Finland.
  • Alternate Company Equivalent: The Vaśńa have the Fertility Goddess Lovarakka: a syncretism of the Klavigar Lovataar from Nälkä clergy and the Akka Maderakka from Sámi shamanism.
  • White Sheep: Compared to other Sarkites, life in Sarvi also seems to be relatively pleasant. When questioned, one of its residents is extremely disgusted about the "rapist murderer" Neo-Sarkites.

    The Vātula

The Vātula

The Vātula (Sanskrit: वातुल) is a population of men hidden amongst the rural parts of India's northern states, who identify as the chosen stock of Karcist Vaski whom they have become one with him. Designated SCP-2833, they contain a small, red fly-like parasite (SCP-2833-A) that will perpetuate their being after death.
  • Born from a Dead Woman: If the host of an SCP-2833-A instance is killed, the parasite will generate an embalming agent to preserve the corpse until a new SCP-2833 is born. Also, does not necessarily have to gestate in a woman.
  • Cunning Linguist: The Vātula can speak either Hindi, English, Gujarati, Dogri, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Urdu. All of them are also fluent in an archaic Uralic language that does not correspond to any modern relative.
  • Meaningful Name: The Sanskrit word वातुल vātula has many different meanings ("dreadful"; "enlightened"; "lashed by the wind to the point of losing one's sanity"; "god's madcap"; "detached from the world"; and "seeker of truth"), all of which can be applied to SCP-2833.
  • Mystical Plague: The bearer(s) of one against the Daevites.
  • One-Gender Race: All SCP-2833 are male.
  • Orifice Invasion: How SCP-2833-A find hosts.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: SCP-2833-A instances usually attach themselves to a host's nervous system, allowing manipulation of their nervous system and sensory organs, induce hallucinations or forcing their movements.
  • Reincarnation: Newborn SCP-2833 retain the memories of the instance their SCP-2833-A originated from.
  • Womb Horror: If the chosen host is female, SCP-2833 will enter and grow in the womb. This is invariably fatal.

Neo-Sarkicism

    Adytum's Wake

Adytum's Wake

Adytum's Wake (designated Group of Interest #0490) was a Neo-Sarkic cult from the northeast United States, and is the oldest Sarkic organization in North America dating back to 1650. Initially dismissed by the SCP Foundation in 1932 as merely another "decadent social club", the apparent destruction of the cult in 1952 brought Sarkicism to the Foundation's interest. Adytum's Wake is officially defunct, but the Foundation has suspicions that the cult lives on in the Durant Bodfel Financial Group.

    Children of the Black Blood

Children of the Black Blood

The Children of the Black Blood (검은피 아이들 Geomeunpi Aideul) is a Korean clan of assassins taught to kill in the ways of Ion by their Master Ban.

    The Darkwater Lodge

The Darkwater Lodge

The Darkwater Lodge (designated Group of Interest #504D) is a pair of African-American clans, the Sabatier family and the Duvernay family, who practice Äkum'nälkä, a sect of Sarkicism deeply intermingled with the Akom belief of the Akan people. Initially from what is now Ghana and the Ivory Coast, the Atlantic slave trade transplanted the Lodge's ancestors to the Danish West Indies, which they escaped from in the 1733 slave insurrection on St. John. The two families now live in a residential compound in La Rue Macabre, a nexus accessible in New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Been There, Shaped History:
  • Interfaith Smoothie: In Äkum'nälkä, the pantheon of Nälkä has been closely melded into the one of Akom.
    • Their progenitor deity, Nyamien, has been made analogous to Yaldabaoth. Consequently the ŋorok'si na Hargitsaa "Seven Butchers of Chaos" have become the Vultaas.
    • Nyambe, the first human and Guardian of Creation, has become a Composite Character of Ion and Lovataar.
    • Wasire (the God of the Dead, Judge of the Afterlife) has become a Composite Character of Nadox and Orok.
    • Asaase Yaa (Wife of Wasire, Goddess of Death, the Knife of Judgment) has become analogous to Saarn.
  • One Degree of Separation: Geographically, they are very close to the Proto-Sarkic Natau family, but they are distanced by centuries of history and culture.
  • Slave Liberation: Their ancestors were the instigators of a famous slave revolt on Sankt Jan of the Danish West Indies (now St. John, Virgin Islands), and successfully escaped to the mainland.

    Esoteric Order of White Worm

Esoteric Order of White Worm

The Esoteric Order of White Worm (Hungarian: Fehér Féreg Ezoterikus Rend, designated Group of Interest #0385) is a secretive fraternal organization that markets interests in the occult. Borne from the Șolomonari's influence on the Kingdom of Hungary, a new age of Sarkicism and Taltosism called Nyelke lives on through the Order in the landed gentry of Europe. Following the Third Hungarian Republic's 1947 abolishment of its nobility, the descendants of the former House Vörös still retain substantial influence within the Order and Hungarian land ownership, dominating the cult's leadership positions.
  • Always Male: Averted. Despite referring to itself as a fraternity organization, the Order is concurrently sororal as it does not prohibit membership of women.
  • Botanical Abomination: SCP-2815-5 is an apparent tree named the "Égig érő fa" at Ivády Manor, an estate within the Order. Despite appearing as a normal walnut tree, SCP-2815-5 is made from the genetic matter of several humans and horses; can be entered and is Bigger on the Inside, and grows in said space an array of "fruit" from said human and horse flesh.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Defied. SCP-2815 (a village in Heves County, Hungary that's a part of the Esoteric Order) practice "A Nyúzó Szertartás", a symbolic recreation of the "Rite of Nyúz". Unlike the traditional belief, they do not do this to a person but to one of their crops; gradually cutting away the peel.
  • Familiar: SCP-2815-2 create these (SCP-2815-3) by slaughtering, disebowling, and reviving horses with specially bred akuloths grown inside them; a Sarkic take on the ''táltos ló''.
  • Fantastic Fruits and Vegetables: SCP-2815-2 grow and donate a variety of what appears to be fruit commonly raised in agriculture. The fruit of SCP-2815-5 (SCP-2815-6A) are plentiful and high in nutrition. Analysis of the genetic material of humans and horses.
  • Green Rocks: The táltos horses eat meat and regurgitate it as a substance (SCP-2815-4) their táltos uses to treat injuries and repair damage objects via Transmutation. The SCP Foundation's inspection of the substance found it to contain the psychedelic compound N,N-Dimethyltryptamine, and theorize it to be a byproduct of the akuloths in the horses.
  • Interfaith Smoothie: Nyelke is a form of Nälkä that has adopted aspects from Hungarian shamanism, specifically Taltosism.
  • Language Drift: Members of the Order speak a variant of Hungarian mixed with the Adytite language. The Foundation's linguists have named this language "Eehish", named after the direct Hungarian translation of Nälkä, az Éh "the Hunger".
    • Nyelke is a Hungarian rendering of Nälkä, as is akolossz for akuloth, the titular white worms.
  • Mystery Cult: The Order is the most public of Sarkic cults. The public knows the Order exists and are dedicated to the occult, but their tight-lipped membership leaves almost everything about them a big mystery for the Foundation lost amongst a load of conspiracy theories.
  • Raising the Steaks: SCP-2815-3 are horses that have been killed and revived with an akuloth by the táltos in the Order to serve as their loyal Familiars.
  • The Secret of Long Pork Pies: The regular people who eat the fruit or receives or organ transplants from SCP-2815-5 are often not aware of where exactly it comes from or they are made from the genetic material of humans and horses. Knowledgeable about this are the SCP Foundation and the Manna Charitable Foundation, the later of which regularly accepts donations from the Order's Ivády estate.

    The House of Hapsburg

SCP-3288 - The Aristocrats

Yes, that House of Hapsburg. SCP-3288 (or Homo anthropophagous) is a deformed Human Subspecies descended from the Hapsburg family, created though Sarkic fleshcrafting but not in Sarkic faith. Forgotten for centuries after being hidden underground, their untold numbers lurk in the darkness of the Holy Roman Empire's former territories.
  • The Aristocrats: They're essentially a literal Aristocrats joke (hence the title) in SCP form, played for horror instead of comedy.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Naturally. These ones are cannibals and serial rapists. And it's mentioned that back in the day, their non-mutated ancestors did everything they could to indulge their Basement-Dweller kin's insane whims and desires.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: They believe this (ironic, given their rulers are often too fat to move). This gives the researchers an advantage over them, as they associate being able to subdue them and cause them harm (such as with bright lights) with nobility. One researcher quickly plays along, calling himself a King, and the SCP is only too happy to be cordial after that.
  • Basement-Dweller: The ancestors of SCP-3288 were the children even the Hapsburgs considered too ugly and kept behind closed doors. The first hive discovered by the Foundation lived within a replica of the Hofberg Palace's Swiss Wing underneath the original.
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Their progenitor was Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I, who learned Sarkic fleshcrafting to make sure his bloodline kept growing without the deleterious effect of their "family curse".
  • Blue Blood: They're descended from the Habsburgs, giving them some of the bluest blood you can have.
  • Body Horror: The infamous "Habsburg chin" is still alive and well with them, but they also have six rows of teeth, enamel growing over their skin, and generally asymmetrical features, not to mention what happens to their "meat".
  • Cannibal Clan: Being locked in a vault and being influenced by Sarkicism will do that to you.
  • Chest Burster: When SCP-3288 instances impregnate human women, the result is a brood of SCP-3288 babies that chew their way out of the womb, universally resulting in the mother's death.
  • Creepily Long Arms: Their arms are twice normal human arm length.
  • Creepy Long Fingers: They have arachnodactyly and polydactyly.
  • Eats Babies: The SCP-3288 clan beneath Vienna is shown eating a cauldron full of babies, which are implied to be their own.
  • Enfant Terrible: Newborn SCP-3288 are precocial and feral enough to cause enough havoc to crash a helicopter.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The writer who produced them noted that Emperor Leopold I, who created them with Sarkic input, would be disgusted and horrified to see the depraved end result of his obsession with blood purity.
  • Hiding Behind Religion: As they believe to be the aristocracy the Holy Roman Empire, the claim their rampage and rulage is the Divine Right of Kings.
  • High-Class Cannibal: They're descended from Austrian royalty, and Emperor Maximilian claims they do not eat humans but "vermin"; they consider the "peasants" they eat to be less than human.
  • Inbred and Evil: More so than any Sarkic on both counts.
  • Long List: The description kicks off with a listing of all the abnormalities that SCP-3288 instances are known to suffer from, some of which are previously undiscovered deformities.
  • Mars Needs Women: As of 2016, SCP-3288 males have begun venturing to the surface and raping women in order to impregnate them with SCP-3288 babies. This is invariably fatal to the women in question, and the SCP-3288 rulers intend to exterminate and replace all humanity in this way: "The meek will beget the strong. The doomed will beget the chosen".
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Sixty of them, arranged into six rows, and each one is far larger than a normal human's.
  • The Morlocks: One of the rare upper class cases.
  • Names to Run Away From: The Foundation's taxonomic name for them, homo anthropophagous, is Latin for "man-eating man".
  • Putting on the Reich: Somewhat confusingly, they take a few phrases from another famous Austrian autocrat, calling their victims "undesirables" and "life unworthy of life". This may have to do with their obsession with blood purity.
  • Removed Achilles' Heel: The entire concept of them is that they lack many aspects of inbreeding that would actually impede them. Most of the time, inbreeding leads to reduced fertility, increased rates of stillbirth and infant death, and greater susceptibility to disease. SCP-3288 instances are the opposite; Explosive Breeders who seem nigh-on immune to disease and routinely have enough healthy children that they eat them just to thin the herd. This has allowed their inbred traits to advance far beyond the point where normal humans would be reduced to sterility, facilitating their transformation into a borderline different species. They are often somewhat impeded by the hideous mutations that result, but they've also become really tough and strong.
  • Royal Inbreeding: Practice this to an absurd degree, to the point where Parental Incest and Brother–Sister Incest are the norm rather than the exception.
  • Shout-Out: They all have heterochromia, like fellow degenerated aristocratic family the Martenses. And their name is a reference to famous comedy routine.
  • The Social Darwinist: They believe themselves to be the race with the purest blood, and the "peasants" they prey upon to be subhumans. Their goal, in modern times, is to forcibly spread their bloodline, eradicating baseline humanity and replacing it upon the earth.
SCP-3288-6971: Don't you see? The greedy will devour the charitable, the merciless will ravage the peaceful, and the fornicaters will rape the chaste. We will make the world as perfect as us. We will all be aristocrats in the end.
  • Stereotype Flip: They carry a lot of the ideas of your classic Cannibal Clan, such as severe inbreeding, isolation, and rape, but while most examples of the trope, such as The Hills Have Eyes, are portrayed as Hillbilly Horrors, 3288 members more invoke the trappings of Austrian royalty.
  • Torture Always Works: Justified. It works entirely because their twisted cultural mindset leads them to associate the ability to establish physical dominance over them through inflicting pain and suffering with establishing social dominance over them too.
  • Weakened by the Light: Freak out at massively bright lights, to the point of becoming utterly submissive to whoever controls such lights.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Subverted. They don't care about whether or not immortality is favorable, only that those given it should be conscious enough to experience every last second. This eventually gets played for Black Comedy in the End of Death canon when an instance leaves a bad review for an Ambrose Restaurants location because the latter figured out an alternative to euthanasia.
  • Womb Horror: Newborn Homo anthropophagus, at least ones gestating within Homo sapiens, eat their way out of the womb.
  • Would Hurt a Child: When preying upon the people of Vienna, they single out vulnerable people, which includes unattended children.

    The Hunter's Black Lodge

The Hunter's Black Lodge

The Hunter's Black Lodge (Russian: Чёрная Ложа Охотников Chërnaya Lozha Okhotnikov, designated Group of Interest #0432) is a bratva of Sarkic leadership. Founded in the "Bitch Wars" of the '50s by escapees of Siberian gulags, the bratva found Sarkic mystics and learned from their ways. Having rediscovered the lost holy site of Orok's Fall, the Lodge ran their criminal organization from the ancient temple, profiting off of the body entombed within until the SCP Foundation located them.
  • Arms Dealer: The SCP Foundation has found substantial evidence to suggest that the Hunter's Black Lodge is a redistributor of arms manufactured by the company Abraxas Arms.
  • Calling Card: If the Lodge's victims haven't been completely decimated, the brutalized corpses will be left on display, impaled upon coralline spikes of chitin.
  • Covert Group with Mundane Front: Like much organized crime, the Lodges behind the veneer of front businesses. One of these businesses is the Red Lanterns (Красные фонари Krasnyye fonari), a nightclub in the Golyanovo District of Moscow (built over what is thought to have been a 17th century church).
  • Dead Guy on Display
  • Deadly Euphemism: Lodge members call their dungeon underneath the Red Lanterns "the basement's basement".
  • Fantastic Drug: The Black Lodge is responsible for the distribution of the steroid "Wrath" (Гнев Grev, SCP-2408-2A) and the aphrodisiac "Lust" (Похоть Pokhotʹ, SCP-2408-2B). This is adrenaline and testosterone extracted from Klavigar Orok's comatose body.
  • Getting High on Their Own Supply: Members take the Wrath and Lust they distribute. Because of that, SCP-2408-1's testes and adrenal glands are disproportionately large regardless of transformation.
  • Great Escape: The Hunter's Black Lodge started out as a band of gulag inmates that, in '51, saw a successful escape lead by Avgust Iosava.
  • The Mafiya
  • Make an Example of Them: The Lodge is brutal in its intimidation. An SCP agent undercover was tasked with personally sending a message to a Moscovite politician starting to crack down on the Lodge's illegal activities.
Target the family. A wife, a daughter. Don't kill them. Make an example. The sort of scars that'll never heal.
  • Old Master: The Great Mothers, a group of twelve elderly võlutaars found by Avgust Iosava in 1951 who gave the Lodge its Sarkic influence. The bojevíks held no respect for them, calling them "hags", "crones", and "witches" behind their backs. In 1995, the Lodge killed all of them after one of them was found to have leaked information to a Foundation spy.
  • Organ Theft: When the Black Lodge found out the SCP Foundation was onto them, they abandoned Orok's Fall... not before removing Orok's adrenal gland, pineal gland, testes, and hypothalamus in order to continue harvesting from them at their new base of operations. Doubles as Monster Organ Trafficking.
  • Our Nymphs Are Different: The Red Lanterns is attended by Predatory Prostitutes who the Great Mothers identify as "rusálki" (руса́лки), nymphs in Slavic folklore who lure men into the water and drown them.
The whores at Red Lanterns [...] Five once called them Rusalki; I thought she was just being figurative but now I'm not so sure. They slither off into the backrooms with fresh meat tailing behind; they'll be back an hour later, looking satisfied - but the men that go in don't ever come out.
  • You Are Number 6: The Great Mothers haven't given any names for themselves. The undercover agent refers to them by numbers, with the senile one Five proving herself to be a good source of information.

Artistic representation of Yaldabaoth, by SunnyClockwork
The FLESH, an entity central to the Sarkicist religion. Yaldabaoth (also known as Važjuma, the God-Eater, the Womb of Chaos, and Mother Dragon Nüwa) is a primordial god who created life, but not reason or sapience, intending life to only be savage and driven by instinct. When MEKHANE created reason, Yaldabaoth tried to destroy life, but the Broken God broke itself to imprison the beast.
  • Almighty Idiot: Yaldabaoth is (usually) not depicted as sapient. It's just a beast who eats and consumes, not aware of the consequences of it doing so.
  • Alternate Company Equivalent: Known to the Xia Cultural group as Mother Dragon Nüwa.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Much like Mekhane, it is depicted as both male and female, but given how it mated with Mekhane once, and Mekhane is commonly portrayed as female, it’s likely it’s of male origin, although it was the opposite in the Xia culture, which was its earliest known worshipers.
  • Demiurge Archetype
  • Expy: As a destructive and involuntary deity of the flesh which "eats" deities and stars, and then "breathes out life", it's largely inspired by Azathoth.
    • Yaldabaoth is the name of a malevolent deity in Gnosticism who mistakenly believes himself to be the one true God and keeps humanity ignorant of the higher levels of reality.
  • Gender Bender: Just like Mekhane, Yaldabaoth has no confirmed gender, being depicted as both genders. Male however seems to be its more prominent gender, as it at one point mated with Mekhane, whose prominent gender is female.
  • God Is Evil: Like MEKHANE, it used to be a fairly straight example of this trope. While it has moved more to Almighty Idiot territories in more recent representations, it is still fairly antagonistic.
  • I Have Many Names: Sarkics also refer to Yaldabaoth as "Važjuma" (literally "the Old God"), and numerous epithets such as the "God-Eater", "Devourer", "His/Her Undulating Vastness", "The Great Winnower", "The Womb of Chaos".
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Per Mekhanic scripture, Mekhane impaled Yaldabaoth with the broken fragments of their mechanical body.
  • Our Archons Are Different: Yaldabaoth has five Archons (or Vultaas) surrounding it named after the Four Perils... and Zhurong.

    Grand Karcist Ion

Grand Karcist Ion

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yboyajh.png
The Ozi̮rmok by Niram_S
The messiah of Nälkä, the Ozi̮rmok Ion. The Sorcerer-King of Adytum was born a lowly slave, subjugated by daevas unil he escaped and found great power. The ascended Ion lead a revolt against the oppressive Daevite Empire, creating the Kalmaktama Empire in his conquest.

A list of his appearances can be found here.

  • Adaptational Sexuality: In some works by the user Indices (found on the wiki and Archive of Our Own), he has romantic relations with Nadox.
  • The Archmage: His title of "Grand Karcist" (Adytite: Ozi̮rmok) refers to his followers' belief that Ion is the most powerful fleshcrafter in existence, having successfully refashioned himself from a sickly slave-child to a Humanoid Abomination.
  • Arch-Nemesis
    • Initially to the Daevas, for strong-arming a revolt against their empire and bringing about its decline.
    • As leader and founder of a religion that worships what Mekhanites believes to be their greatest enemy, THE FLESH, he is the ultimate enemy of Robert Bumaro, leader of the Church of the Broken God.
  • Born into Slavery: As is the fate of a daeva fathered by a concubine.
  • Child of Two Worlds: According to legend, he is the progeny of a daev (matriarch) mother and a ḳun (slave) father. As Homo sanguinis are separate from Homo sapiens, this counts as a Half-Human Hybrid.
  • The Charmer: In twelve days, Ion persuaded the Daeva priestess Lovataar from wanting him recaptured as her Sex Slave to leaving the Daevite Empire becoming his favorite concubine.
  • Dark Messiah: Proto-Sarkicism reveres him as the one who will bring about Adytum and remake the world into a paradise for his followers. Neo-Sarkicists have a more indifferent view of Ion, viewing him simply as being a powerful mortal who was able to obtain apotheosis, and another can be free to challenge and overthrow him if possible.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Once a Daevite slave, Ion escaped his master and fled the empire before coming into contact with Yaldabaoth and ascending to godhood.
  • Heroic Bastard: If the legends of his heritage are true. Just a Bastard Bastard for non-Sarkics though.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: The Chinese Mythology interpretation of Ion ("Yang") put this spin on him, though other material implies a much less charitable interpretation.
“Once struggled against the beasts, he now became a beast himself, such a shame!”
— "Bumo"
  • Meaningful Name: In-Universe.
    • According to the Sarkicism Hub page, Ion derives from the (fictional) Proto-Yeniseian phrase Xeːy-Xaŋ meaning "breaker of ropes; destroyer of bondage", borrowed into Old Adytite as Eejaaŋ or Jaaŋ.
    • In Soonsaran, an Adytite-derived language used by bronze-age Sarkicists, "Ion" means Savior or Prophet. It's unknown, however, if Ion's name was taken from Soonsaran, or if his name became the Soonsaran word for savior.
  • My Nayme Is: Word of God from Metaphysician in 2015 stated that the name Ion is pronounced like "yawn".Niram_S, a Finnish fan of Sarkicism, argued that the descendant of a word like Xeːy-Xaŋ would likely be pronounced like "eon".
  • Reality Warper: Given descriptions of him in the Valkzaron, the SCP Foundation has concluded that if Ion existed, he was a high-end reality bender.
  • Sorcerous Overlord: One of Ion's titles is "the Sorcerer-King of Adytum".
  • Unreliable Narrator: Whether he is a cruel tyrant who promotes social Darwinism, a benevolent messiah who uplifts the downtrodden and abused to stand up for themselves, or a totally alien entity with unknowable motives varies wildly from source to source.

    Klavigar Nadox

Klavigar Nadox

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vy6o1nw.png
The first of the Klagivars. A sage from the southern reaches of the Daevite Empire, Nadox had ideas of civil reform for which the daevas made him a pariah for.

A list of his appearances can be found here.

    Klavigar Lovataar

Klavigar Lovataar

The second of the Klagivars. A daeva from high clergy, Lovataar left her people out a love head of the revolt against her way of life. Pregnant with the brood of Ion, Lovataar (or just her disembodied womb) gestates underground, for which she has been classified by the SCP Foundation as SCP-2191-3.
  • Animal Motif: The symbolism of Insect Queens (usually bees or ants) is sometimes used to represent her in Sarkic art.
  • Baby Factory: Lovataar has become the expectant Mother of a Thousand Young.
Draga Negrescu: She begged to bear his children and the Great Karcist blessed her with his sacred seed. The Mother swelled with joy and life.
  • Defector from Decadence: In twelve days, Lovataar was convinced by Ion to join him and leave her life in the daevas' Decadent Court.
  • Femme Fatale
  • Fertility God: Known as the Mother, she is the patroness klavigar of motherhood and unrestrained reproduction (not just entailing breeding and growth, but also cancer).
  • The Hedonist: The Sarkic patroness of pleasure.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Known as the Highblood Redeemer, Lovataar is an example to the Sarkics that that no one is Beyond Redemption.
  • Hemo Erotic: As a daeva, she does involve blood in her love-making.
  • Living Apart: Per the In Memoria, Adytum canon, SCP-2191-3 is either Lovataar's womb separated from her and put in the ground, or is her original body and she made an avatar to walk the Earth for her.
  • Longest Pregnancy Ever: SCP-2191-3 has been gestating for millennia.
  • Love Goddess: The Sarkic patroness of love.
  • Love Redeems: Her growing feelings for Ion, once reciprocated, drove her to join the slave revolt and found the Kalmaktama Empire.
  • Sex Goddess: Is It To The Sarkic
  • Rebellious Princess: She was the daughter of a high-ranking matriarch before she left her clan for Ion.
  • Wicked Heart Symbol: The Seal of Lovataar, a circular emblem inlaid with a bleeding Heart Symbol being pierced by a claw.
  • Yandere: Upon developing feelings for the rebel leader, she saw fit to order slave-hunters to capture Ion to bring him to her as her consort.
  • You Sexy Beast: Evidence that Sarkics can be monstrous with carnomancy and copulation.

    Klavigar Orok

Klavigar Orok

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2b812mv.png
Pale Hunter by Niram_S
The third of the Klagivars. Once the prized gladiator of a daeva matriarch, Orok joined Ion and become one of his largest and fiercest followers. Felled in combat during the War of Metal and Flesh, a temple known as Orok's Fall was built around his comatose body. He was lost for centuries until he was rediscovered deep below Moscow; first by the Hunter's Black Lodge, and later contained by the SCP Foundation as SCP-2408-4.

A list of his appearances can be found here.

  • Animal Motif: The symbolism of elephants bulls is sometimes used to represent him due to the both of them sharing mighty, towering statures.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Carnomancy made Orok grow greater in size, beyond what should be feasible by nature. When the SCP Foundation located his body, they found he was 300 meters from head to foot, and estimated his weight at over 70 million kilograms.
  • Cyclops: He has one giant eye in the center of his forehead and (in line with the traditional Greek mythology) is also a giant. Given he warred against the Mekhanites of Mycenaean Greece, he may have been the inspiration for the mythical cyclopses.
  • Elemental Punch: Of the fire variety, according to the Valkzaron. Orok killed his mistress with a single Enhanced Punch, reducing her to "cinder and ash and heavenly starlight".
  • Fantastic Drug: As one might assume about an organism of a larger scale, Orok has extremely potent hormones. The Black Lodge discovered this as they began extracting adrenaline, testosterone, and cerebrospinal fluid from his comatose body to sell as narcotics.
  • Gladiator Games: Orok was a famous pit-fighter among the daevas, as he was apparently considered the greatest gladiatorial combatant of his time.
  • Gladiator Revolt: Orok was the personal guard and pit-fighter for Matriarch Aśvighoṣa, the ruling daeva of the city-state Jel. When Ion arrived in the palace to order Jel's surrender, Aśvighoṣa order Orok to kill Ion, only for Orok to turn around and kill her instead.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Strangely, Orok is revered by Sarkics as a patron of loyalty for his devotion to Grand Karcist Ion, but also a patron of revolt for his betrayal towards his daeva masters.
  • Organ Theft: Before the Black Lodge abandoned Orok's Fall, they surgically removed Orok's adrenal gland, pineal gland, testes, and hypothalamus in order to continue harvesting from them at their new base of operations.
  • Skeleton Motif
    • The Seal of Orok, a circular emblem inlaid with of ribcage breaking away into veiny branches. The seal is also reminiscent of a fist, another of Orok's symbolisms.
    • The Skull of Orok, a symbol depicting Orok's tusked skull that is a common tattoo for members of the Black Lodge.
  • War God: The Sarkic patron of war.

    Klavigar Saarn

Klavigar Saarn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saarn.jpg
The fourth of the Klagivars. Once a child slave sentenced to death for killing her owners, Saarn was freed by Ion with his siege of her prison. Devoted to her savior, she trained herself and others as spies and assassins, starting a network to tear the Daevite Empire appart from within.A list of her appearances can be found here.
  • Animal Motif: Due to her stealth, methods of killing, and the serpentine modifications made to her body, Saarn is highly assocciated with serpent. Her emblem, the Seal of Saarn, a circle inlaid with three intertwining adders.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: For Sarkics, her association with darkness is symbolic of covert actions to achieve justice.
  • Devious Daggers: A ruthless assassin, her signature weapon is a sacrificial dagger.
  • Enfant Terrible: Equipped with a garrote, a dagger, and some poison, Saarn murdered her mistress' entire household as a child.
  • God of Darkness: The Sarkic patron of darkness and secrecy.
  • God of Order: The Sarkic patron of cosmic justice or jaka (more literally "divide; separate; cull".
  • Inconspicuous Immortal: SCP-5480 depicts her as currently living a regular life as a grocery store worker in Portsmouth, England, spending her days decorating her apartment with her Lovecraftian superpowers and getting annoyed at door-to-door Sarkicists she views as having strayed from Ion's ideals.
  • Scales of Justice: One of Saarn's symbols, representing her swift justice.
  • The Shadow Knows: Art works depicting Saarn as both a little girl in rags and chimera Snake Woman have the latter as the former's shadow.
  • Snake People: Through carnomancy, Saarn made herself a chimera between a woman and an adder.
  • The Sneaky Guy: Known as the Coiled Shadow, she is the patron klavigar of darkness, secrecy, and deception.

Karcist Lucien Dutoit née Thiers, real name Mānsatt'āppaṁ Kunna Kalākāran ("The Artist that Works in Flesh"), is a Karcist that was once a diplomat for 19th century France. Originally from Indian subcontinent, he left the then-French colony and integrated himself with the French aristocracy, creating the Society of the Bloody Flower.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: MalyceGraves stated that Mānsatt'āppaṁ Kunna Kalākāran is supposed to be Malayalam/Proto-Dravidian, but since they are not a linguistic scholar, they "kinda played fast and loose with the specifics of the etymology" and "[they] liked the sound of those words ... so [they] went with that".

Karcist Halyna Ieva is an infamous Karcist who lived during the late Bronze Age.

A list of her appearances can be found here.

  • Creepy Souvenir: She is famous for collecting human toes. Her title in Adytite, Äiti Joka Vaatii Varpaita, means "The Mother Who Demands Toes".
  • The Dreaded: She was one of the most powerful and brutal Karcists to ever live, and her rampage through Greece is implied to play a large part in why anomalous organizations (including even the Serpent’s Hand, who usually embrace the supernatural with open arms) are leery towards Sarkicism in the modern day.
  • I Have Many Names: To Run Way From. Layla Helen Pirani, The Scourge of Iron, The Mother Who Demands One's Toes, The Flesh That Ate, Subversion of Mekhanical Expectations, The Faithful Heretic...

    Karcist Naman da ke Tsatsa

Karcist Naman da ke Tsatsa

Karcist Naman da ke Tsatsa ("The Flesh that Walks") is a Karcist from the Äkum'nälkä sect of Neo-Sarkicism. They are the overall leader of the Darkwater Lodge, in that they are fusion of the patriarch Karcist Enitan Sarbatier and matriarch Võlutaar Enu Duvernay.

In general

  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: Naman da ke Tsatsa is supposed to be in the Afro-Congo language of Twi (or Akan Kasa), but instead it's closer to the unrelated Chadic language of Hausa.
  • Been There, Shaped History: Naman da ke Tsatsa was one of the leaders in the 1733 slave insurrection on St. John.
