Spirit Guard and co.

    Spirit Guard in general
The Spirit Guard are a team of superheroes formed to protect Earth from powerful threats. They fight Platicore's monsters to save people from getting their energy drained.
  • Aura Vision, Sensor Character: They can sense auras emanating from living things with their EKP, some of which visually appear to them.
  • Battle Aura: Each member has a rather strong aura, but it doesn't really do much unless they're in Spirit Guard form, in which case it shields them from most forms of non-empathokinetic damage.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished, Dirt Forcefield: Inexplicably, their battle form's healing factor attempts to keep them with model-tier looks at all times.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: They transform by holding their Spirit Stick, feeling their namesake emotion, and saying a certain phrase. For example, Angela's is "Foundation of Valor, Spirit Guard power up!"
  • The Chosen Many: They were all selected by Fate to become Champions.
  • Embarrassing but Empowering Outfit, Minidress of Power: They find the cheerleader-themed costumes rather goofy. It ended up that way since Angela associated cheerleaders with lifting peoples' spirits when she first transformed, and the heroes have had no luck in figuring out how to alter things.
  • The Empath: Each member was granted EKP (empathokinetic perception), which lets them sense emotional energies of auras, empathokinetic abilities, and even regular emotions if it's honed enough. They're apparently the only humans to possess this ability.
    • States of EKP, from strongest to weakest: Spirit Guard form, post-transformation, pre-transformation but synced with one's Spirit Stick, birth.
    • Each user's EKP, from strongest to weakest: Rob, Angela, Kara, Vivian, Mallory.
  • Healing Factor: A Spirit Guard passively undoes damage to their body in several ways. It's fueled by the body's own energy, so a Spirit Guard can have a very high-calorie diet. Inexplicably, "damage" includes haircuts, the accumulation of dirt and body hair, and general hygiene.
    • While in Spirit Guard form, wounds are rapidly sealed in order of increasing size. Maintaining the user's appearance is also attempted, which is why a Spirit Guard might not break a sweat even in battle.
    • After transforming, one's civilian form recovers from injury much like a regular human, primarily during sleep, albeit at an accelerated rate.
    • Going in or out of Spirit Guard form reverts much of the body's condition to how it was after powering down for the first time, but larger wounds from battle are sustained.
    • Spirit Guard Charity's healing supplements the healing factor and speeds it up.
  • Immune to Bullets: In Spirit Guard form, their aura's protection is strong enough to stop bullets. Angela and Mallory found this out when the latter accidentally fried a cop car with her lightning.
  • In a Single Bound: In Spirit Guard form, jumping up a story or so is a simple feat.
  • Instant Expert: The Spirit Guard form comes with battle instincts for superhuman movement and powers.
  • Part-Time Hero: They're college students who also happen to be the only people around who can fight the monsters.
  • Stubborn Hair: After transforming, their hair is forced to a specific length, reverting either after changing forms or sleeping for a night.
  • Summon to Hand: In Spirit Guard form, one can mentally summon or dismiss their weapons.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: Their EKP can sense where powerful empathokinesis is being used.
  • Super-Reflexes: In Spirit Guard form. A requirement when battles are at such high speeds.
  • Super-Senses: In Spirit Guard form.
    • Innate Night Vision: When the Spirit Guard meet Robert late at night, they forget normal people might have a hard time seeing in the dark.
  • Super-Speed: In Spirit Guard form, one can outrun cop cars and close the distance from an opponent in an instant.
  • Super-Strength: In Spirit Guard form, one can zoom about with heavy weapons, carry multiple people with one arm, chisel stone by oneself...
  • Super-Toughness: The only way survive the destructive attacks being thrown around. Most prominent in Spirit Guard form, but one's normal form is pretty sturdy too thanks to the healing factor.

Robert Dreese/Robynne Darling (Spirit Guard Serenity)

Click here for Spirit Guard Serenity. Click here for Robynne.

Robert Dreese is an eighteen-year-old freshman at SAU from the small town of Deepwater. A chance encounter with the Spirit Guard sees Robert glow, marking him as the one chosen to become Spirit Guard Serenity. He refuses to join the team at first, as he'd rather remain normal and the transformation would turn him female and upend his life, but he relents in order to save Mallory. With the new name of Robynne Darling, Rob has to now deal with not only monster-fighting, but with the complications her new body brings to her life.

  • Academic Athlete: Until he quit the team after junior year of high school, Robert was both a skilled football player and among the top students of his class.
  • All Guys Want Cheerleaders: This is Robert's type, finding the outfit attractive, and his ex-girlfriend was a cheerleader. The irony at getting recruited to the cheerleader-themed Spirit Guard and SAU's cheer team isn't lost on Rob.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: Robynne doesn't know what to call herself. Presents as female to those not in on her secret identity.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Robynne is considered one of the hottest girls on campus. She hates it, not liking her new body or the attention it draws.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Prefers to carefully dissect the opponent's capabilities and habits so their weaknesses can be exploited.
  • Badass Bookworm, Genius Bruiser: Robert leans toward the latter: a tall, athletic nerd, especially when he was in top shape from playing football. Robynne is the former since she loses the body but gets to fight with superpowers instead.
  • Blithe Spirit: A newcomer to Kessia City that challenges ideas about the Spirit Guard and such that the general populace and even the heroes themselves took for granted.
  • Bullied into Depression: The football team's name-calling at the rumors he was gay caused him to no longer enjoy the sport, so he quit the team during junior year of high school.
  • Bully Hunter: Implied to have gotten this reputation in high school after beating Dustin in self-defense. He would've gone after Evelyn too for bullying his girlfriend, but didn't due to the Double Standard against guys hitting girls.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Robynne's large breasts are considered one of the primary reasons she gets so much male attention.
  • Casual Sports Jersey: Brought his old football jersey to college since it's comfortable.
  • Celibate Hero: Robynne tells Lilly she'd rather not deal with the complications of a relationship at college. The real reason is that Spirit Guard business has made her life crazy enough, and dealing with the mess her new body has made of her sexuality only serves to frustrate her.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Rob just can't seem to refrain from helping people in need.
  • Cosmic Plaything: After learning Fate is real and has given him a destiny he hates, Rob often wonders if any new contrived hardship is Fate's doing.
  • Cross Player: Robert's avatar in Aspect Realms is female because that's what he'd rather stare at all day. Averted with Robynne, who keeps a female avatar.
  • D-Cup Distress: Robynne is not happy that her new body has large breasts, due to both physical discomfort and the attention they draw.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has no shortage of sarcastic quips for all the ridiculousness he has to deal with.
  • Determinator: When he makes up his mind about something, he sees it through to the end.
  • Doom Magnet: His tendency to find trouble and lack of self-preservation instinct gets him labeled a "danger magnet" by Mallory, who worries about Cory and Eli's loyalty to him making them risk themselves too.
  • Dork Knight: A smart, upstanding superhero who likes to play video games all day.
  • Dual Wielding: Serenity fights with a dagger in each hand.
  • Excellent Judge of Character, Living Lie Detector: Rob got from his uncle a knack for judging people's sincerity, which he calls a "bullshit detector". This is later helped by Rob's strong EKP picking up hidden emotions in others.
  • Eye Colour Change: Initially has blue eyes, but they become green after transforming.
  • The Fettered: Was taught by his uncle to always make the decisions that let him look himself in the eye. In practice, this means helping people in need and opposing those who would harm others.
  • Fights Like a Normal: Serenity uses her special attacks sparingly compared to her teammates, preferring her knives.
  • Fragile Speedster: Serenity is the fastest of the Spirit Guard, but her durability is apparently lacking in comparison.
  • Friend of Masked Self: Robynne claims to be an old friend of Robert's, who moved back home at the death of his father.
  • Gamer Chick: Robynne doesn't lose her passion or skill for gaming, though she gets annoyed at people online treating her differently.
  • Gender Bender Angst: Robynne's new body is a constant source of issues.
  • Godlike Gamer: Noted to be a skilled gamer that can quickly pick up a new game.
  • Guile Hero: Likes to use trickery, taunts, and the like in dealing with opponents.
  • Hates Being Touched: Will usually shiver or squirm away from physical contact.
  • Hates Small Talk: Not a fan of unplanned conversation.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Robynne's looks get far more attention than she is comfortable with, with her EKP and paranoia exacerbating her fears of people looking at her.
  • Height Angst: Robynne finds being 5'2'' the most consistently annoying part of her transformation, given she was a foot taller beforehand.
  • Heroic Ambidexterity: Is ambidextrous only in Spirit Guard form, where she dual-wields knives.
  • Heroic Willpower: Has a high resistance to mind-altering effects of certain auras.
  • An Ice Person: Hasn't displayed any ice-based moves as Serenity, but Rob's Investiture can take the form of ice to keep a monster from draining it.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Would rather be an ordinary college student than a superhero.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Rob's gaming experience actually helps in monster fights. Beyond applying tactics effective in video games (scoping out enemy capabilities, quick risk assessment, etc.), Serenity's dual knives and stealth abilities happen to mirror Rob's avatar in Aspect Realms.
  • In-Series Nickname: "Rob" is the most prominent one, mainly used by Cory and Eli.
  • Invisibility: Serenity's Placid Mist move turns her (and those next to her, if desired) invisible.
    • Invisibility with Drawbacks: The veil has a top speed, so moving faster than a superhuman jog uncloaks her until the mist can catch up. Attacking cancels the move entirely.
  • The Lancer: Shares traits of this with Mallory. While Mal is Angela's closest friend and a foil to her, Rob contrasts with her even more, with Angela consciously wanting Rob in this role due to their past lives having this bond.
  • Locked into Strangeness: Initially has reddish-brown hair, but it becomes blood red after transforming.
  • Loss of Identity: The routine of being Robynne does a number on Rob's sense of self, and she is unable to recognize what she's become.
  • Magic Hair: Serenity's hair is empathokinetically charged, causing it to constantly flow and cover one of her eyes.
  • Making a Splash: Serenity's special moves are water-based.
  • Meaningful Rename: After transforming, it wouldn't be safe to remain Robert Dreese, so the name Robynne Ellis Darling is chosen.
    • Sobriquet Sex Switch: Robert was named after his grandmother already, so takes up her name of Robynne. It's close enough to her original name to not bother her too much, and allows her to still be Rob for short.
    • Embarrassing First Name, My Nayme Is: Robynne finds the spelling of her name overly feminine. She had forgotten how her grandmother spelled it when she agreed to take up her name.
    • Embarrassing Last Name, Nom de Mom: Robynne thinks her last name of Darling is cartoonish given her appearance. She'd believed it wouldn't be too bad when she chose to adopt her mother's maiden name, given she didn't have other options if she wanted her surname to remain in her family.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: While Robynne remains a heterosexual male in her mind, her new body instead shows attraction for men. This frustrates her as she catches herself eyeing guys while not feeling anything at girls she definitely had attraction for before.
  • Muscle Angst: Robynne hates feeling weak without her original body's musculature.
  • NaĂŻve Newcomer: As a newcomer to Kessia City, Rob was unaware of the monsters and Spirit Guard's existence.
  • Nephewism: Was adopted by his Uncle Taylor at three years old after his parents died in a car accident.
    • Happily Adopted: Rob had a good upbringing, and loves his uncle more than anyone.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Doesn't care about destiny, past life business, or any of that. Rob becomes a Spirit Guard only when not doing so would result Mallory's death, as he could never live with the weight of allowing someone to die.
  • Online Alias: Uses several for different purposes.
    • "Bluster" is Rob's first handle. Gets phased out later on so people online don't associate Robynne with Robert, but she does use it as the addressee to receive the computer she extorts from Cammy.
    • Starts using "Waveform" after transforming, which becomes her main form of address to SFEERS members.
    • "Isocruciatic" is an alternate Aspect Realms avatar Rob uses when guiding Angela through the game.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue to Mallory's red. Rob is introverted and reserved, while Mallory is more extroverted and impulsive. Their Spirit Guard costumes are even the appropriate colors.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: Is the main protagonist and joins the Spirit Guard after they've been active for over a year. Though Serenity is hardly a rookie in terms of competence, she is one in terms of teamwork.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Even though strange hair colors are the norm in Kessia City, Robynne's blood red "scarlette" hair and green eyes is considered a striking combination.
  • Slipknot Ponytail: Robynne's ponytail comes undone when she transforms into Serenity. It comes back upon powering down.
  • The Smart Guy: Shares traits of this with Vivian. They share an analytic eye for Spirit Guard business.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Robynne is extremely hot, which is a problem since she hates her new body and how it affects the way others treat her.
  • Spirited Competitor: Rob is competitive and likes to challenge himself, which is the main reason he played football and enjoys Aspect Realms PvP. Rob finds that in a weird way, being a Spirit Guard fills a void left by football in that she can physically push herself.
  • Stepford Snarker: Robynne complains a lot about the problems her transformation makes for her, but can't bring herself to tell her friends about how close she comes to breaking and the deeper identity issues brought on by the whole thing.
  • The Stoic: Has tight control over his emotions due to feeling they'd get in the way of decision-making, which is appropriate given his empathokinetic powers are in the tranquility branch.
  • Super Gender-Bender: Due to the Spirit Guard transformation changing one's body to reflect their Ardentia predecessor, becoming Spirit Guard Serenity forces Rob into a female body.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Robynne is the tomboy to Stacy's girly girl. Stacy freaks out whenever Rob shows interest in anything even slightly feminine.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Robynne keeps her hair in a ponytail to keep it out of the way since cutting it won't work.
  • Tranquil Fury: His usual form of anger. It's even used to fuel his first transformation into Sprit Guard Serenity, and for Serenity's empathokinetic attacks.
  • Unperson: After Rob transforms, all digital records of Robert's existence is removed or replaced with those referring to Robynne instead. Appropriate physical documents are created as well.
  • Upbringing Makes the Hero: Credits his upstanding character to Uncle Taylor raising him right.
  • Waif-Fu: Serenity is only 5'2'', but it doesn't impact her combat effectivenss thanks to her super strength, speed, and a generous amount of acrobatics.
  • Weirdness Magnet: It seems like ever since arriving at Kessia City, nothing is ever normal with Rob's life. Rob is all too aware of this.

    Angela Warrant (Spirit Guard Valor)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angela_warrant.png
Click here for Spirit Guard Valor.

A sophomore at SAU. Reincarnated from the Princess, she became Spirit Guard Valor a year and a half ago. Once she was no longer the sole Spirit Guard, she became the team's leader.

    Mallory Drake (Spirit Guard Tenacity)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mallory_drake.png
Click here for Spirit Guard Tenacity.

A sophomore at SAU. Reincarnated from the Soldier, she became Spirit Guard Tenacity one year ago. She's Eli's older sister.

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Tenacity's sword cuts through a mall's walkway.
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: A Q&A revealed that she prefers athletes who are taller than her.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Six feet tall, muscular, and considered very attractive.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Threatening harm to Eli is a good way to earn Mallory's wrath. She's also protective of her friends in general.
  • The Big Guy: The biggest, toughest Spirit Guard.
  • BFS: Tenacity's sword is nearly as long as she is tall, and it's wide enough to act as a makeshift shield from projectiles.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: She doesn't like how rash she can be, and considers Eli to be more responsible than herself.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She has a bit of a short fuse, but isn't proud of it.
  • Height Angst: Downplayed example. She doesn't mind being six feet tall, but her preference for men taller than her limits her dating pool.
  • Kick Chick: A black belt in Taekwondo. It's seldom used in monster fighting since she has her sword.
  • The Lancer: Shares some traits of this with Rob. Mal is best friend and foil to Angela, but Rob is an even greater foil.
  • Leg Focus: Robert catches himself staring at her long, toned legs when he first meets her.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Her tendency to recklessly charge into battle has messed with plans and gotten her hurt.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: A longtime athlete, currently on the volleyball team.
  • Shock and Awe: Tenacity's special moves feature red lightning.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Mallory is impulsive and athletic, while Eli is shy and nerdy.
  • Slipknot Ponytail: Her ponytail comes undone when she transforms into Tenacity. It comes back upon powering down.
  • Spell Blade: Intrepid Blade and Determined Arc enhance her sword with electricity.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Her height of six feet is considered impressive and adds to her appeal.
  • Tank-Top Tomboy: Tank tops are a good fit for her athletic lifestyle.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Wears it so often that Eli finds it weird to see her without it.

    Vivian Joy (Spirit Guard Felicity)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vivian_joy.png
Click here for Spirit Guard Felicity.

A freshman at SAU. Reincarnated from the Scholar, she became Spirit Guard Felicity seven months ago.

  • Action Girlfriend: Eventually starts dating Cory.
  • Badass Bookworm: A film nerd that fights with superpowers.
  • Black Magician Girl: A short, spunky spell slinger.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Often wears a mischievous grin on her face.
  • The Gadfly: Will annoy her friends and perform minor pranks.
  • Genki Girl: Energetic and excitable, her roommates sometimes tire of her antics.
  • Height Angst: She's just five feet tall and keeps a mental list of people shorter than her.
  • Long-Range Fighter: When far enough away, she can launch her more explosive moves with less concern for friendly fire or collateral damage.
  • Magic Staff: Uses a simple-looking staff that controls flames.
  • The Nicknamer: Gives nicknames to people whether they want it or not.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Being barely five feet tall doesn't affect her destructive force in battle.
  • Playing with Fire: Felicity's special moves feature pink fire.
  • The Prankster: Likes to annoy her friends with small, covert pranks.
  • The Smart Guy: The only member besides Rob who cares to analyze the team's powers.

    Kara Balmer (Spirit Guard Charity)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kara_balmer.png
Click here for Spirit Guard Charity.

A freshman at SAU. Reincarnated from the Mender, she became Spirit Guard Charity four months ago.

  • Action Girlfriend: Eventually starts dating Eli.
  • Barrier Warrior: Can create shields of varying sizes for either her or her allies.
  • Cuddle Bug: Fond of hugging. She even apologizes in advance to Rob for this habit.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Both her hair and eyes are blue.
  • Energy Bow: Charity's bowstring and arrows are made of light.
  • Hard Light: Her barriers are made of light.
  • Healing Hands: Giving Hands lets her transfer her energy to another.
  • Healing Shiv: Clement Pierce fires an arrow that heals its target. Serenity freaks out at seeing it for the first time, with the others musing they probably should've been a little more concerned themselves.
  • Leg Focus: Eli states that her legs are quite nice to look at.
  • Light 'em Up: Her special moves are light-based.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Fights most effectively while her opponent is occupied by her teammates.
  • Team Mom: She'll comfort the others and chastise them for misbehavior.
  • White Magician Girl: Gentle, specializes in healing and barriers, and uses a bow.
  • X-Ray Vision: Giving Hands's orbs can show the inside of her patient's body.

    Cory Frost
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cory_frost.png

A freshman at SAU and best friend of Eli and Rob.

  • Chivalrous Pervert: He'll make some perverted comments, but makes a point of treating women with respect.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a witty remark for seemingly everything. When he does it while in danger, he says it's a coping mechanism.
  • The Gadfly: Gets a kick out of annoying his friends.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Eli. Rob is the first person able to become part of their impenetrable bond.

    Elijah Drake (Eli)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eli_drake.png

A freshman at SAU and best friend of Cory and Rob.

  • Appearance Angst: Feels his looks are unremarkable. When Sanvi passes over him in favor of Dale when trying to determine who Robynne trusted with the computer part delivery, Eli considers that maybe looking ordinary is a boon if it keeps him under the radar of the cheer mafia.
    • Height Angst: He doesn't like being only 5'5'', especially since he could've been tall like his six-foot sister.
  • Bad Liar: Has a hard time hiding his true feelings or coming up with a good lie, so he tends to follow Cory's lead.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Or Little Brother Instinct, as the case may be. Lacking superpowers doesn't stop him from trying to run to the wounded Mallory's aid while Day LaMode is ready to kill her. Rob has to hold him back.
  • The Chosen Wannabe: Eli doesn't exactly want to be a Spirit Guard, but considers it unfair that it fell to Rob instead of him to sacrifice so much in order to save Mallory.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": He'd prefer not to be called Elijah by anyone besides his family. Cory will sometimes do it to annoy him, and Angela and Noriko do it just because they default to more polite forms of address.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: He is said to be more responsible than Mallory, who sometimes acts recklessly.
  • Guilt Complex: It's in his nature to feel guilty over things, even if they're not really his fault.
  • Has a Type: Prefers girls with blue hair.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Cory. Rob is the first person able to become part of their impenetrable bond.
  • Shrinking Violet: Would like to have a cooler image, but his shyness impedes him.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Eli is shy and nerdy, while Mallory is impulsive and athletic.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Straight man to Cory's wise guy, though Eli has quips of his own.

    Kunapipi (Ms. Kuna)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kunapipi.png
Kunapipi's wallaby form.

A Guide that has aided Fate's chosen Champions on Earth for thousands of years. She's supposed to be a mentor figure to the Spirit Guard, but Fate grants her even vaguer info than usual, so Kunapipi is more like a manager than anything else. Her natural form is that of a wallaby, but she can also take on a human appearance, and does so for her cover job as a school counselor at SAU, where she goes by Ms. Kuna.

  • Being Human Sucks: Finds a human body uncomfortable.
  • Do Not Call Me Sir: Prefers Kunapipi over Ms. Kuna, but since the former name is hidden to the world at large, this is more like Friendly Address Privileges in practice.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Took up a human form as people became less accepting of a talking wallaby.
  • Mentor Mascot: A talking wallaby created to assist Earth's heroes.
  • Morphic Resonance: Her wallaby form's fur and human form's hair are both a rust-like burgundy color.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Appears as either an ordinary wallaby or a human in her twenties or thirties, but she's been working as Guide for Earth's heroes for thousands of years.
  • Real Name as an Alias: Her human form's surname is just the first part of her real name.
  • Talking Animal: A wallaby that can speak human language, which is unnerving to watch.
  • The Team Benefactor: Arranges things so Spirit Guard business doesn't interfere with the heroes' college life too much. She'll also lend her credit card in a pinch, like when Robynne's new body required a replacement wardrobe.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Can freely switch between a wallaby and human form.

    Noriko Yukimura
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noriko_yukimura.png
Click here for Noriko in her ninja attire.

A ninja employed by Kunapipi. She, Nick, and Will make up the Hush Corps, an obfuscation group that protects the secrets of the Spirit Guard. She acts as a scout and will clean up evidence left over from monster attacks. When she's not working, she's a foreign exchange student at SAU. She's roommates with Kara and Vivian, and Robynne ends up moving into her room.

  • Cannot Spit It Out: She can't just tell Nick her feelings for him.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Whenever anybody asks how she can do extraordinary feats, the answer is always "training".
    • In a Single Bound: Boasts incredible jumping height and can fall a long distance without trouble.
    • Super-Reflexes: She can catch or swat away objects suddenly thrown at her without looking.
  • Emotionless Girl: She has a reputation for being emotionless, but it's just that her reactions are very subdued.
  • Hidden Depths: Presents as cold and efficient, but actually likes to show off her ninja skills. She doesn't like when this is pointed out.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: She's so quiet that she tends to startle people when she makes her presence known.
  • The Stoic: It's hard for others to tell what she's thinking when she barely emotes.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Skilled in assassination, but won't kill anyone unless her clients order her to.

    Nicholas Siekert (Nick)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nick_siekert.png

A student at SAU and digital artist employed by Kunapipi. He, Will, and Noriko make up the Hush Corps, an obfuscation group that protects the secrets of the Spirit Guard. He can forge evidence and documentation, and also drives a van called the HushMobile to the scene of a monster battle so the Hush Corps can get to work. He and his twin brother Will are collectively referred to as the Twins.

  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Has good luck with girls, but is unaware of just how popular he is.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Both his hair and eyes are green.
  • Mission Control: Keeps a line open to coordinate Noriko's evidence removal and Will's hacking. Since the Spirit Guard don't have the earpieces to hear him from the HushMobile, he'll have Noriko pass info along to them.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Nick is outgoing and a lady's man, while Will is quiet and socially awkward.

    William Siekert (Will)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/will_siekert.png

A student at SAU and a programmer employed by Kunapipi. He, Nick, and Noriko make up the Hush Corps, an obfuscation group that protects the secrets of the Spirit Guard. He is a master hacker, with his usual job being to mess with digital evidence of the heroes such as security footage. He and his twin brother Nick are collectively referred to as the Twins.

Platicore's forces

    Platicore

The one creating the monsters that terrorize Kessia City. Formerly one of Fate's agents, he now seeks to gather enough Investiture in order to destroy her and allow the people to be free of her meddling. He's also the one that incited the Ardentia Civil War.

  • Dark Lord on Life Support: His near death in the Ardentia Civil War has left him dependent on the systems of his empathokinetic armor.
  • Defector from Decadence: Felt that Fate's methods of manipulating destiny was an affront to the free will she's supposed to protect. Fate foresaw his betrayal and preemptively kicked him out.
  • Mad Scientist: A brilliant but insane empathokinetic engineer.
  • Shoot the Messenger: He'll beat Trace if she delivers particularly bad news.
  • Talking Animal: As is the norm for agents created by Fate, though his species has not been stated.

    Trace

Platicore's right hand and errand runner. She deploys his monsters, sometimes watches them battle, then retrieves their Investiture yield for her master.

  • Eloquent in My Native Tongue: Her translated speech is significantly better constructed than her actual English.
  • Perception Filter: Her stealth band tricks viewers into thinking she's not present. She has another device that makes her beneath notice when she has to set up a monster in plain sight.
  • You No Take Candle: She's new to English and has a poor grasp on it.

    Monsters in general

    Polygal
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/polygal.png

A monster initially hidden within a Zombie Mansion cabinet at the Loose Change arcade.

    Day LaMode
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/day_lamode.png

A monster that possesses a mannequin at Rale Valley Mall, and can turn other mannequins into drones in her image to swarm her enemies.

  • Doppelgänger Attack: Makes other mannequins into minions that look nearly identical to her.
  • Fights Like a Normal: None of her powers are offensive in nature, so she attacks with martial arts.
  • Funetik Aksent: Her exaggerated French accent is spelled out.
  • Zerg Rush: Although her goons aren't very intelligent and not as powerful as their master, their sheer numbers let them surround and separate the Spirit Guard.

    Cell-celia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cell_celia.png

A monster uniquely disguised as a human, initially appearing as a Buy Bright employee.

  • A God Am I: Wishes to attain godhood by draining Investiture from all over the world.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Is easily talked into spilling information about her design, Platicore's aims, and the existence of his helper.
  • Increasingly Lethal Enemy: Automatically drains small amounts of Investiture via a virus on phones she's touched, gradually increasing her power. As people continue to message each other, the virus spreads exponentially.

SAU Cheerleading Team

    Cammy DeCroix
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cammy_decroix.png

A junior at SAU and captain of the cheer team.

  • Apathetic Student: Routinely skips class.
  • The Beautiful Elite: Is a very pretty rich girl.
  • Charm Person: Seemingly unbeknownst to Cammy, she has a powerful aura that can inspire fear or awe in those around her, so she's used to people being agreeable with her.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Both her hair and eyes are purple.
  • Daddy's Girl: Her dad has spoiled her, and she has basically free access to his money.
  • False Friend: To Angela a year before. Really, her selfishness gives her a rather distorted view on relationships in general.
  • It's All About Me: Selfish to a fault, she cares about herself far more than any other person.
  • Power Incontinence: Her aura's intensity and direction are unconsciously affected by her emotions and her focus on someone, respectively. She's unaware that she can control it, apparently because she doesn't realize she even has any powers at all.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Her eyes are purple.

  • The Glasses Gotta Go: She's farsighted, but thinks she looks better without her glasses.
  • Like Is, Like, a Comma: "Like" is her verbal tic.
  • Motor Mouth: She's chatty to the point that she can mostly carry a conversation by herself.
  • The Pollyanna: Has a cheery optimism for seemingly everything.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Robynne's tomboy. Stacy freaks out if Rob shows interest in anything remotely feminine.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: Becomes one of Robynne's closest friends who's not in on Spirit Guard business. Stacy is unaware that Robynne is both a Spirit Guard and the guy she met the first week of class.
  • Weight Woe: Maintains a diet in hopes of losing a little weight. Robynne finds the notion ridiculous given Stacy already has a great figure.

A cheerleader that doesn't care for promotion work.

  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Lets things slip during rounds of gossip, like how she spilled that she and Robynne skip out on promotion duties.
  • The Slacker: She's lazy and really doesn't like promotion duty, so she's glad when getting paired with Robynne lets her skip out on work.

SFEERS

    Fretribution (Eddie)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fretribution.png

The president of SFEERS, SAU's nerd club.

  • Power Incontinence: His aura emboldens those near him, which seems to be the cause of the club's rapid growth under his leadership, but he's apparently unaware he has such a power, so his only control over it is in shifting its intensity in response to his emotional state.

Other

    Fate
A far-seeing deity in charge of preserving order in the multiverse.
  • A God I Am Not: While Fate is often referred to as a god, Kunapipi says that's not quite the case.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Fate's motivations beyond maintaining some vague cosmic order are unknown even to her agents. Considering she is far-seeing yet doesn't seem to care what befalls innocent people caught up in her plans, Fate doesn't appear to operate on any sense of good and evil.
  • The Chooser of the One: Selects people to become Champions, who work to keep order in the world.
  • Sentient Cosmic Force: Fate is said to be more like an embodiment of order than a living thing.
  • Starfish Language: For reasons unknown, Fate primarily communicates to her agents using feelings and archetypes.
  • The Watcher: Prefers not to intervene directly, feeling that doing so would oppose free will.

    Taylor Dreese (Uncle Taylor)
Rob's paternal uncle, who became his guardian after Rob's parents died in a car accident fifteen years ago. Lonely with his nephew away at college on the other side of the country, Taylor calls several times a week.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Robert doesn't want Taylor worrying for his safety, so he refrains from mentioning his encounters with monsters and the Spirit Guard. After becoming a Spirit Guard, Robynne continues this charade and goes text-only until she can explain everything in person.

    Dale Bridges
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dale_bridges.png

Robert, Cory, and Eli's roommate. He's set to share a room with Rob, but his late arrival means he just misses Rob get moved out.

  • Beautiful Singing Voice: Said to be a good vocalist of his band.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Doesn't realize that girls find him hot. Cory has to point out to him that Sanvi was checking him out after the fact.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: He's a pleasant guy, but he's not as subtle as he seems to think he is in showing his interest in Robynne.
  • Has a Type: Very fond of scarlettes. Cory and Eli warn Robynne of this, and as expected, Dale quickly falls for her.

    Dustin Durfee
A football player who played alongside Robert back in high school.
  • Always Second Best: Was always just behind Rob on the depth chart, finally overtaking him after a huge growth spurt in sophomore year.
  • Driven by Envy: His bullying of Rob was motivated in part by finally surpassing the rival that had always done better than him.
  • Dumb Muscle: Said to not be very bright, and also effectively a goon for his girlfriend Evelyn.
  • Jerk Jock: A stereotypical idiotic bully of a football player.

    Evelyn Gray
A cheerleader Rob knew in high school.
  • Alpha Bitch: Considered herself queen of Deepwater High.
