Characters / Infinity Train Boiling Point Pokemon World

Go To

The world that Koharu Sakuragi, better known as Chloe of the Vermillion, comes from.

    In General
  • Dub Name Change: Most of the characters here go by their original Japanese names.

Sakuragi Institute

    open/close all folders
    Professor Sakuragi
Chloe's father and the local Professor of Vermillion City.
  • Adults Are Useless: Even though he's a Professor, he never has his daughter do anything related to Pokémon battling or researching compared to Ash and Goh, meaning that Chloe was ill prepared to protect herself from the Spearow Incident (though granted, there are over a dozen more, worse factors).
    • If he just let Chloe talk things over before Ash and Goh barged in instead of hanging up on her, Chloe would've made a lot more progress in getting the static off her number.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Why he keeps his daughter on the institute when she does nothing is vague, especially when wondering how much the Spearow incident has to do with it. He eventually points out that he shouldn't have let things just go by "naturally" and do more to get Chloe into his work.
    • How biased and focused he is on Ash and Goh is debatable, since most of the info about it comes from Chloe, who's not exactly the most reliable of sources...
  • Didn't Think This Through: He doesn't have a valid excuse or reasoning for why Chloe couldn't do research when she eventually asks, causing him to stumble his words and dig himself deeper. Kikuna notes that he assumed Chloe would just want to start getting curious, but never made a plan for where she could even begin.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: When he tries to explain why Chloe can't go on research expeditions and claims the Slateport Water Festival wasn't research research, it sounds more and more like he's pushing Double Standard on her and Chloe shuts him off.
  • Double Standard: Unintentionally; despite having his daughter in the Institute all the time, he never gives her anything to do, never makes her do research, can't even give a reason why she's not even doing anything, and didn't even give his daughter a ticket to the Alola region that she could've enjoyed. Then again, considering the Spearow incident was a thing...
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • Hesitation; he hesitated for the longest time to get Chloe into Pokémon, and him unable to give her a proper reason why she never gets to go do research causes her to shut him off.
    • Excuses; he constantly keeps giving excuses as to why he shouldn't let Chloe get involved in anything to the point it became a bad habit as to why he didn't give Chloe a ticket to the Alola region.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He honestly just wanted to try answer Chloe's question regarding the fact she does nothing at the Institute, but the question itself came so out of the blue he fumbles his words trying to explain himself, and it's implied he doesn't even have an answer for this, which doesn't help him in the slightest.
    • Just as he and Chloe reconcile in Chapter 6, Ash and Goh barge in. He tells her that he'll call later just as Chloe is begging her father not to. This action convinces Chloe that she can never trust her father when she needs it and instead goes to focus on her train journey.
  • Irony:
    • Keeps Chloe in the Institute so she can learn about Pokémon, yet fans know that he never gives her anything to do until Episode 31 and never teaches her how to protect herself. Moreover, he's hesitant to give her answers when Chloe needs it the most, whereas he usually leaves her alone to focus on Ash and Goh.
    • He's the one who told Chloe she had to try; but he never lets her try to do anything in regards to research.
    • He argues that Chloe isn't ready for research, which Chloe argues isn't true. The irony comes from the fact that in trying to prove him wrong, Chloe only proves him right.
    • For all his talk of caring about Chloe, he has a very bad problem in communicating with her.
  • Missing Steps Plan: His plan for Chloe to get into Pokémon involved constant exposure being in the Institute and hearing what Ash and Goh did, then her becoming curious, to her seeking things on her own...he just kinda forgot to create a plan for her or never considered if she wanted to go on research or travel...
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Professor Sakuragi's very sexist sounding excuse as to why his daughter can't join Goh and Ash on expeditions and how he never has her do anything for the Institute motivates Chloe to get her own Pokémon and into the hands of numerous Spearows.
    • Just as he and his daughter are about to reconcile, Ash and Goh barge in with something important and he hangs up on her when she begs not to. Thanks to this, he just made Chloe's trip on the Train longer than it should have been. Whoops.
  • Papa Wolf: He's livid when he thinks Specter might know about Chloe's whereabouts and Yeardley knows that it's not a good idea to attack the daughter of a Pokémon Professor who is also a dad.
  • Poor Communication Kills: He never told Chloe about the Alola Trip nor asked her if she wanted to join. And he never even discussed where she could even start in regards to getting interested into Pokémon.
    • DoubleSubverted when he talks with her in Chapter 6. Both of them actually manage to come to some understandings, and even manage to come close to reconciling. Things only fall apart due to things neither of them could've seen coming.
  • Properly Paranoid: His daughter, in an attempt to make him shut his words, decides to go try to catch some Pokémon after getting a Trainer kit from Specter. Next thing he knows, she gets assaulted by Spearows. This only gets worse when the Train gets involved, since not only does Chloe go missing, but then a very strange man drops by the institute and reveals he knows a bit too much about her...
  • Strawman Has a Point: One of his arguments for why Chloe wasn't ready to do research was because she wasn't ready for it, causing her to chase him off. Thing is, Chloe goes on to prove his very point by not only trusting Specter with only a Trainer kit and nothing to defend herself, but then face off against a group of Spearows by her lonesome.
  • Useless Bystander Parent: His daughter is at the Institute every single day and not once does it occur to him to get her into research or Pokémon like he makes Ash and Goh do. Then again, this is from the perspective from a very biased Chloe...
    • Kikuna theorizes that he just thought that if Chloe just observed Ash and Goh so many times that she'd eventually get curious and try...but then points out that Professor Cerise never even thought of where Chloe could even begin.

    Kikuna
One of the assistants in the Sakuragi Institute.
  • Adults Are Useless: Downplayed. While she didn't do much to stop Chloe from running off on the Train, she and the girl did get along enough that Chloe left one of her research books with her.
  • Cool Big Sis: Chloe sees her as one, as she left one of her research notebooks with her.

    Yamper
Chloe's pet... well, Yamper.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: He sniffs out Specter right outside the Cerise Institute, and is uneasy the whole time he's there. However, that's only if he's awake; when Specter first appeared in Chloe's bedroom, he's too deep in sleep to notice.
  • Shock and Awe: Electric-type.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Kind of; Chloe was apparently trying to teach him some new moves other than Spark.

    Ash Ketchum
The Champion of Alola, who's come to Vermillion City to work as Professor Sakuragi's research assistant.
  • Big Damn Heroes: His Pidgeot is the one who saved Chloe from the Spearows.
  • Contrived Coincidence: It's nothing short of a joke that the same day he and Goh go on an expedition to Alola, Chloe also wants to go on an expedition.
  • It's All My Fault: Blames himself for bringing up Alola, not telling Goh to stop and listen to Chloe or even ask the Professor to let Chloe come with them.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: He didn't know anything about Chloe's desires and likes, mostly because the only person he could ask, Goh, wasn't the best person, and Chloe certainly wouldn't help.
  • Must Make Amends: After the Spearow Incident, Ash decided to sit around and talk to Chloe more, discussing his adventures with her.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ash should've never mentioned Alolan Exeggutors to Goh... but then again, he couldn't have known Goh would go as far as he did.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Ash only brought up the Alolan Exeggutor in hopes of setting up a trip to Alola. He got it alright, but Chloe was left behind, causing her to fester on hatred until the incident...
  • Odd Name Out: He's pretty much the only person who retains his dub name, rather than his original Japanese name.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He was the one who told of the Alolan Exeggutor to Goh, prompting their trip to the Alola region on the very same day Chloe wanted to go on an expedition. This meant that since they weren't there on Chloe's field trip she had no one to protect her from the "Spearow Incident". Bad timing, Ash Ketchum.
    • He barging in just when Professor Sakuragi and Chloe are about to apologize leads to Chloe deciding to fuck all of this and stay on the Train to slay the Apex. Really bad timing, Ash.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Chloe chews Ash apart for not only giving Goh the idea to go to Alola on a day she needed him, and also because he never approached her at all due to Goh's very lame excuse of "Chloe's no longer into Pokémon".

    Sota
Chloe's younger brother.
  • Decomposite Character: His infamous temper and propensity for violence are split between two characters: Boscha (the latter) and Lexi (the former).

Chloe's School

    Mrs. Asphodel
Chloe's teacher.
  • Adults Are Useless: Averted. As soon as Chloe begins beating up Yeardley over seemingly nothing, she sends her to the principal's office. Yeardley notes that the only reason she wasn't noticing where Chloe was during the Spearow Incident was because she was busy stopping a fight between some classmates.
    • However, she's not perfect; she's the one who told Chloe to go to the Principal's office while not noting how Yeardley was throwing the paper balls at her that started everything that got Chloe on the Train.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Was known as Mrs. April in Blossoming Trail.
  • Cool Teacher: A kind woman who cares for her student's well being, and won't tolerate bullying. No one in her class ever disobeys her orders.
  • Flower Motifs: Her name is about a flower associated with the Underworld. Given how Chloe has met up and crushes on a person she names Specter...
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Chewing Chloe out and not addressing Yeardley's role in the attack brings her to the Principal and the subsequent trip to the Infinity Train. And since Chloe was her student, then she's going to be in a load of trouble in the future. Yeardley even tells Goh that she's doomed.

    The Principal
Take a guess who they are.
  • Putting the "Pal" in Principal: While they talk sternly to Chloe, they only want what's best for her.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While stern to Chloe, they're still supportive and concerned for her well being, even suggesting that she should seriously go get some therapy.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Gives Chloe the card for a therapist...which Chloe dumps into the trash and walks off onto the path of the Infinity Train.

    Yeardley
One of Chloe's classmates.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Compared to his misoginistic Blossoming Trail counterpart, this Yeardley is Innocently Insensitive at worst. He was the one who dropped off Chloe's bag on the day she vanished and even delivers her homework.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: He and Chloe hated each other back in Blossoming Trail, but they appear to be more civil towards each other here. At the very least, he's not outwardly malicious to her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: He thought the best way to get Chloe's attention was to throw paper balls at her because that's how everyone does it. You can figure out how that played out. Goh even asks if he let Raboot throw a burning rock at his face, if that would be acceptable.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He starts realizing he might've done more harm than good when he said his "My life is a work in progress" line, whereas Chloe got talked over by everyone else.
  • Forgetful Jones: He was supposed to tell Chloe about the class trip to the Safari Zone, but forgot about it. His "attempts" to try tell Chloe set off Chloe's trip onto the Train. When he's seen in Boiling Point he also completely forgot that he even threw paper balls at her (Although it had been six months since the incident happened)
  • Innocently Insensitive: He tried to get Chloe's attention to remind her of something he forgot... by throwing paper balls at her. Chloe responds in kind soon after.
  • It's All My Fault: Begins wondering if Chloe going missing is somehow his fault.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Like in canon, his actions are what caused Chloe to get on the Train. This time, it's him annoying her with paper balls (even though he sits right behind her) that spurned her to strike him with a book, get her to the principal's office and then barreling into the Infinity Train.
  • Would Not Hit a Girl: Physically anyway, as he knows that attacking the daughter of a Pokémon Professor is very stupid.

Chienen Household

    Specter
A mysterious man clad in white who knows a lot about Chloe of the Vermillion. Maybe a little too much...
  • Achilles' Heel: As he's a tsukumogami youkai — a youkai based on an inanimate object that only gains life if they live to be 100 — if his brooch is destroyed, so is he. Hazel tricks him via an illusion of Chloe to snatch it and then break it into pieces.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: His tunnel vision as a result of him bein a mirror Youkai leaves him to take some questionable decisions.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Knight of the Orange Lily, he's one of the members of the White Gestalt. In this story, the White Gestalt and him do not get along.
  • Adaptation Species Change: He's human in his universe, but a mirror youkai in this story.
  • Affably Evil: He's nothing short of nice and polite when he pays the Cerise Institute a visit, even delivering flowers, but if he's anything like his canon self... Well, let's just say it's a good thing Chloe isn't around when he appears.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Has his brooch shattered by Hazel after showing how much he truly loved Chloe with the shards off into the hands of Gus and Emira and his death mourned by the other youkai.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Just like his master, it's unclear on who's side he's on, although he's at least nicer than he is. And for another thing, he doesn't see anything wrong with murdering some Spearow if it thinks it'll make Chloe happy...
  • Ambiguously Human: He looks like a normal human, but something about him feels... off. It's eventually revealed he's a Youkai.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Was him channeling Daiki so he could sell out White Gestalt to Ars Goetia an unwilling event that showed that Daiki had gone beyond his control, or did he do it willingly? He was shown to be horrified at the demonic book possessing Chloe after all.
  • Animal Motifs: A slight rabbit motif to go with the Moon motif.
  • And Then What?: A constant issue with him.
    • He gives Chloe a beginner Trainer kit to Chloe and convinces her to go catch a Pokémon, but fails to consider what to do if something were to go wrong, which it did.
    • He also convinces Chloe to stay on the Train in order to slay the Apex without considering the long-term consequences of this.
    • Due to the way the Train works, he's a Static Passenger, a fact that he fails to properly register before his demise.
    • He doesn't seem to have much of a plan to deal with Hazel other than gather some Passengers and fight her. This, predictably, gets him killed.
  • Author Appeal: Duh! This is Green Phantom Queen we're talking about, who's not ashamed of her love of him. This is Averted for the author of Boiling Point, however.
  • Berserk Button: He becomes absolutely livid when he sees Lexi taking the form of his master, only stopping when he sees Chloe arriving at the noise.
    • He also doesn't appreciate Peacock claiming his desire to help Chloe is only born out of her usefulness due to her belief in Youkai. Hazel echoing these exact same sentiments only further convinces him to try kill her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Sure, he looks nice and all, but there are hints that he's got a darker side to him, which is confirmed when the first thing he does upon seeing Lexi in his Nail form is strangle the life out of him.
  • Composite Character: His "given" name is Specter, but he remarks that he was always called Sebastian in the past serving as the butler of Daiki, the expy of Nail Saionji that Chloe bases Lexi's form off of. Moreover, the fact that he's a youkai is presumably based on Blossoming Trail Lexi, whose secondary form is a youkai (a kyornrin, whereas Specter here is an ungaikyo)
    • He has electrical abilities, which is most likely relating to the Knight of the Orange Lily version of him who was fused with Easter.
    • Finally in a VRAINS sense his death scene mirrors that of the Earth Ignis, as he is destroyed and his fate is to have his entire identity and memories wiped clean.
  • The Corrupter: Subtle but in Chapter 6 after Chloe was so close to reconciling with her father but hangs up when Ash and Goh arrives and she's begging him not to, he convinces her to not think about them — even though he happily talked about murdering the Spearows without a care in the world — and just focus on her train adventure and slaying the Apex.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He had a Trainer's starter kit for Chloe when she announces that she wants to get a Pokémon of her own. Unfortunately, he wasn't prepared enough...
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: His eyes are described as sapphires but have some sort of unspoken intent of murder.
  • A Death in the Limelight: The True Apex Car Part 3 is about him hoping to stop Hazel, but she gets her hands on his mirror broach and shatters it.
  • Didn't See That Coming: the Train picking him up was not something he expected at all.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • While he gifts Chloe a Trainer beginner kit, it doesn't occur to him to also give her either a Pokémon to train, or suggest a Trainer to accompany her in case something happens. And surely enough, a Spearow appears...
    • Likewise, he doesn't bother to humor the idea that maybe, just maybe, showing up at the household of a girl who just went missing, and then asking where she is while revealing a lot of info he knows about her, all in front of people who don't even know who he is, is only going to succeed at making him across like an utter creep.
    • Convincing Chloe to stay on the Train was also a big example of shooting himself in the foot, since not only does Chloe become ignorant of what's happening in her world, but also gives her more than enough reason to cut him and the Youkai out of her life.
    • He tries to to steal the Skull Heart in order to give it to Chloe while Peacock is right nearby. Predictably, she chooses to destroy the thing rather than let Specter take it.
    • His plan to defeat Hazel is so half-baked its no wonder it fails: he gathers around a group of Passengers and then has them go straight to The Mall Car, which is not only currently under her control, but is surrounded by The Apex, who at that point have Miraculous by their side.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: An older man arriving with flowers for the father of a girl he knows (who is much younger than him) along with him knowing way too much about said girl? Uh, sexual predator much? Really doesn't help that Boiling Point reveals that Chloe crushes on him...
    • Chapter 6 of "Melancholy Afterlife" all but paints his relationship with Chloe as an abusive one: not only is he okay with something abhorrent Chloe dislikes ( Sylvio killing the Spearows) but he then gaslights her during her Moment of Weakness into staying on the Train so they can both leave together. Can somebody call Stranger Danger on this man already?!?
  • Everyone Has Standards: For all that he's done, Chloe implies that he would balk at the nightmare inducing horrors Daiki inflicts upon Vermillion City. And he does ''not' like the Ars Goetia corrupting her with the demonic armor.
    • He thinks Hazel is an absolute abomination.
  • The Ghost: He's referenced in Boiling Point twice: when Chloe wishes to return to her "perfect date" with him and later in the Campfire Car when she brings up her love/hate relationship with him. He makes his first appearance in Boiling Point in the Azada Car arc (near the end of Act 2), fighting Peacock for the Skull Heart.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: His eyes glow when he questions why Chloe just doesn't accept the idea that the murder of the Spearows was a gift to appease her.
  • Hypocrite: In requesting in letting Peacock give Chloe the Skull Heart, he asks Peacock to just focus on Chloe's needs and wants for once when Melancholy Afterlife reveals that him doing the same thing is the reason Chloe is traumatized.
  • Interspecies Romance: One-sided on his part; Chloe crushes on him even though he's a youkai. After the chaos of the Azada Car, she leaves him behind and wants nothing to do with him but he still loves her enough to go charging after Hazel to save her.
  • I Will Find You: His determination and desperation to find Chloe is enough for the Infinity Train to pick him up and give him a number Thankfully, he's smart enough to leave a message for the others in the household to research the Train. However...
  • I Will Wait for You: Per Word of God, Specter is still around by the time Boiling Point (the equivalent of around six months) is going on, as he won't leave until Chloe clears the static from her number so that they can go together. But since he unintentionally is making her stay longer than she should... Things only get worse in The Azada Car, when Daiki gets so desperate he uses Specter as a medium in order to make a deal with Ars Goetia in order to get Chloe back. By the time they truly reunite in the Azada Car, Chloe has decided it's not worth it and tells Specter to never come near her, Lexi or Atticus ever again.
  • Karma Houdini: In Melancholy Afterlife, since he'll still be around by Boiling Point no worse for wear, despite being the reason Chloe's on the Train.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After the chaos of the Azada Car, Chloe decides that she doesn't want anything to do with him anymore. And he has to pay for that deal with Ars Goetia if White Gestalt has anything to say. Then, just as he decides to do one good deed, Hazel shatters his brooch and thus kills him.
  • Killed Off for Real: Hazel shatters his brooch and the shards are dropped off in the Sakuragi Institute, found by Emira and Gus. And even if the mirror is repaired and another hundred years pass, the youkai born from it is not the same Specter as before.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: By the time he arrives in Boiling Point (mid Act 2) he is completely unaware of what has happened in regards to Boscha.
  • Light Is Not Good: Pure white suit, silver hair, but he is not a nice person if canon is to go by. He's considered a gentleman compared to the monster Hazel became.
  • Long List: States a number of facts about Chloe ranging from her favorite sports, books and Pokémon. This only makes him more suspicious to the Sakuragi Institute crew, who don't even know who he is.
  • Lunacy: His motif instead of plants this time around. He has crescent moon cufflinks, a moon-like broach, Chloe compares his coat tails like "rabbit ears" (invoking the moon rabbit myth) and back when he was a mirror, he was always looking at the moon and seeing it as his mother.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: He gets a bullet to the palm and looks nonplussed.
  • Meaningful Name: Chloe names him Specter because his appearance makes him look like a ghost and that he somehow arrived in her bedroom (on the second floor, no less) from out of nowhere.
  • Mirror Monster: While he prefers to take the form of Specter, he's actually an Ungaikyou, a type of mirror tsukumogami.
  • My Greatest Failure: Blames himself for not arriving in time to save Chloe from the Spearows, which is one of the reasons why he's on the Train.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Downplayed. While he'll go through his master's orders no problem, he absolutely will not take any of his bullcrap when he throws a fit. That being said, it definitely didn't stop him from helping him make a deal with the Ars Goetia...
  • Mystical White Hair: Has silver hair, and it's implied he's more than meets the eye. He's a youkai.
  • Mythology Gag: In his mirror form, the back of his frame had a tree, connecting to Specter's past of being raised by a tree.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Specter.
  • Nerves of Steel: Even as his master's eyes darken and he throws a fit, Specter is unfazed. He's similarly nonplussed when confronting Peacock at the Skull Heart Car, at least until she accuses him of not really caring for Chloe.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Gave Chloe the Trainer's kit so she could go get a Pidgey...and got targeted by two dozen Spearow. And later, he convinces her to stay on the Train, further reinforcing her status as a Static Passenger.
  • No Social Skills: His social skills are somewhat off, to put it that way. Implied because he doesn't have human interactions and his nature as a mirror youkai means he can only reflect what others want.
  • Not Helping Your Case: His inability to put a filter on his mouth and read the room makes him come across as even more of a creep than if he just showed up at the Sakuragi Institute.
  • Older Than They Look: Mid-teens based on human appearance, but he's actually more than a 100 due to his nature as a tsukumogami.
  • Our Monsters Are Weirder: A Mirror Monster youkai who takes the form of a Yu-Gi-Oh character. Can't get any weirder than that.
  • Pet the Dog: In a very weird way, his attempt to convince Chloe to say on the Train to fight the Apex leads to Chloe taking Lexi with her, giving the book a chance to leave his home — as denizens who attempt to leave wind up returning to their car — and explore the Train. Of course, he could be doing this to get Lexi out of his hair...
  • Redemption Equals Death: Tries to fight off Hazel, but gets fooled by an illusion of Chloe and has his brooch shattered and dropped off back in the Sakuragi Institute.
  • Rule of Symbolism: His number, 31, was Jesse's original number on the show. Jesse was an Exteme Doormat, who mirrored other people's reactions. Specter himself was originally a mirror and he's reflecting what he thinks Chloe should have and is subservient to others as the butler of the Chienen Residence.
    • His name, Specter, can not only mean ghost, but also something unpleasant that haunts the mind. Given that he's the reason why Chloe's number became static in the first place...
  • Saying Too Much: He reveals that he knows a little too much about Chloe for the Professor's comfort, dwindling what little trust the man had for him.
  • Shock and Awe: Implied. Electricity surges through him while threatening Peacock right after she destroyed the Skull Heart. Confirmed in another chapter as he fires off eletrical blasts at the Ars Goetia.
  • Something about a Rose: Arrives at the Sakuragi Institute bearing a white rose bouquet for Chloe. In the past, he thanked her for taking care of Rosie with a red rose and compliments that her hair is like a bouquet of red roses.
  • Spanner in the Works: By convincing Chloe to stay on the Train instead of working on her static, this means that Chloe can slowly build herself up as a hero on the Train and ultimately incinerate Boscha before she goes on a meltdown.
    • Confronting Hazel and getting shattered by her ends up backfiring on her and subsequently helps end Azura's reign of terror. For Hazel's part, Chloe taps into her anger and grief to fire her Battle Aura into an Angst Nuke that weakens Hazel for Amelia and Alrick to lay the killing blow. And for Azura's part, Crow uses his shattered brooch to rouse the youkai to join Gus and Emira to battle Azura. Big whoopsie all around, girl!
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Acts calm and kind, if a little bit suspect, when he pays the Cerise Institute a visit, but once he's alone with his master, he takes on a colder, more stern tone of voice. He's much sweeter around Chloe, being a sounding board for her troubles and helping her gain the confidence she needed to move forward. But then again he's also convincing her to stay on the Train to slay the Apex and forget about her family...
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Twofold; not only did he fail to help Chloe during the Spearow incident, causing her to develop trust issues, but he then gaslights her into thinking she's better on the Train than Vermillion City, reinforcing her status as a Static Passenger. However, this actually does become beneficial since Chloe was able to stop Boscha from going on a rampage in Boiling Point.
  • Walking Spoiler: Let's just say there's more to him than meets the eye.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Silvery hair but a somewhat cold personality. Pray that he's not like in canon folks.
  • Youkai: He's a tsukumogami. More specifically, he's an ungaikyo, which is a youkai that is a possessed mirror.

    Daiki Chienen (Unmarked Spoilers
A boy that seems to have a connection to Chloe, who's the master of Specter and lives in a household filled with youkai. He is the owner of a Pidove named Rosie.
  • Abusive Parents: Apparently had these when he was alive, and his inability to get payback on them drove him to madness.
  • Affectionate Nickname: "Young Batson" is one, but only if Chloe says it.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Neither his mother nor his father have appeared so far. If he has any...Turns out he does, but they're long dead by the time the story starts.
  • Ambiguously Evil: He's rather jittery and unstable, and he appears to be very adamant that Chloe has to return to finish her promise...Drops the "Ambiguous" when he makes his appearance in Boiling Point.
  • Ambiguously Human: He's allegedly a human boy, but he lives in a mansion filled with youkai, and he's got pink eyes...Goh calls him a "boy" in Boiling Point but that's probably because he doesn't know what he really is. Chloe and Ash confirm he's also a youkai, a Zashiki-Warashi, to be precise.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Since "Melancholy Afterlife" is a prequel to the main story, what happens to him after it remains a mystery. He's still around in Boiling Point — by the time he's referenced, it's been six months since Chloe vanished — when Goh tells Chloe he destroyed Goh's phone.
    • His entire situation is one, given that he lives in a house filled with youkai and yet never leaves it... Turns out he's a Youkai as well.
  • The Atoner: He's adamant that he needs to apologize to Chloe for something that happened between them. This becomes twofold once he appears in Boiling Point and Chloe gets him to listen to reason.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Chloe saved his Pokémon, Rosie, from a Fearow once, which he appears to be thankful for.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: Despite fusing with a Pokémon when he appears in Boiling Point, Daiki doesn't really do much in the fight, barely throwing a few punches when he's not letting his Youkai do the work for him.
  • Composite Character: Combines Nail Saionji with Tadaaki Ayagi from the Powerpuff Girls anime and Tate Langdon, according to the author notes.
    • Blossoming Trail wise, he combines the negative aspects of both Cerise siblings: he created the Unown-esque plot of horror across the city while having an idolization for Chloe like Parker and his stubbornness, indecisiveness, and not liking Pokémon comes from Chloe herself.
  • Commonality Connection: Deconstructed. He and Chloe share a lot of traits, from not liking Pokémon, to being distant from their parents, and being seen as different from everyone else. However, the connection becomes so similar, and Daiki gets in such a bad state of mind, that he eventually stops seeing Chloe as herself and more like an extension of himself.
  • Creator In-Joke: A two-fer, but mostly more on Green Phantom Queen's love of Specter.
    • "Daiki" is based off of how the author likes to think Specter's first name would've been this, as it's translated into "Big Tree" with kanji and because Specter's seiyuu was Daiki Kajimoto.
    • The "Young Batson" nickname is because the author keeps mashing up Specter's dub VA (Billy Bob Thompson) with Billy Batson/Shazam.
  • Cryptic Background Reference: He mentions how he "wasn't there for her" for some unknown event, presumably the Spearow incident.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His parents hated him, especially since he just wasn't into Pokémon, and ended up leading to his death where he came back as a youkai. His isolation problems, anger and bitterness came from never being able to enact vengeance on them, and his madness caused him to see Chloe as an extension of himself, and further delude himself into doing what he wants on her name.
  • Deal with the Devil: With Chloe seemingly taking forever to return from the Train, he grows desperate enough to make a deal with the Ars Goetia, willingly sacrificing White Gestalt to remove Chloe's number and thus give her a chance to go back home.
  • Expy: Confirmed to be the Nail Saionji-esque character that Chloe will base Lexi off of.
  • Fusion Dance: Through unknown means, he fuses with a Spiritomb when he takes over the Sakuragi Institute.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Implied. He says he feels lonely, and he doesn't seem to be the most stable person around. Specter notes that he doesn't like playing with the "others" in the house, only Chloe.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He made a deal with the Ars Goetia, which lead to part of the fiasco at The Azada Car.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He has a short fuse, basically.
  • Hikkikomori: Specter says that he doesn't leave his room often.
  • Implied Death Threat: When he asks Yuri who Specter talked to before the Train took him.
  • Jerkass to One: He's twitchy and unpleasant if provoked, but he has a reserved hatred for Goh: he breaks his phone, bullies him into becoming a Static Passenger, and then adds a bit to his deal with Ars Goetia to leave him trapped on the Train while Chloe returns home.
  • Karma Houdini: Discussed. Emira is right to be angry that Daiki gets to live even after killing Mattholomeule, however Gus points out that the Daiki that did the deed is dead and will have a second chance to be better.
  • Loving a Shadow: Ultimately, he doesn't really care about the real Chloe as much as he cares about his idealized version of her.
  • The Mentally Disturbed: Most definitely. It's highly unclear what's wrong with him, but what's clear as day is that he isn't stable at all. To the point that Yuri doesn't want to get on his bad side.
  • Meaningful Name: "Daiki" can be read as either "Big Tree" or "Shining" and Chienen is "Thousand Years" or "Feelings". The second half most likely relates to how he's a youkai and his unstable emotions.
  • Never My Fault: He doesn't see anything wrong with how he treated Goh, believing that he deserved it.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: For the third chapter of The Azada Car saga, where he mostly sends his Youkai to confront Mattholomule's group.
  • The Promise: He and Chloe made one, though what exactly it is, we don't know at the moment.
  • Psychological Projection: It's rather clear that when he says he's doing things for Chloe, that he's doing them for himself.
  • Raise Them Right This Time: The hexorcism by Mattholoemeule and finished by his parents is to have this effect, erasing his memories and hopefully be able to have a happier life this time around.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Says "no" several times in quick succession when Specter reveals that Chloe still hasn't returned after a week.
  • Revenge Before Reason: He wants to get revenge against his parents for leaving him to die, despite the fact they've been dead for years.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Once he sees the error of his ways, Mattholomule seals him inside a cube to put a stop to his rampage.
  • Secretly Selfish: Despite claiming he's doing everything he does for Chloe's sake, it becomes very clear, very quickly, that he's really just using her as a cover to get what he wants.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Simply not telling him what he wants to hear is enough to get him to throw a fit. It gets worse when Specter gets taken by the Train and he's left with the other Youkai.
  • Technicolor Eyes: He has literal pink eyes. What these mean and how he got them is still unknown.note
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He was unstable in Melancholy Afterlife, but he was fairly neutral from what's been seen of him so far. Boiling Point reveals that not only did he break Goh's phone, but he also did something to the Sakuragi Institute and bullied Goh so badly that he became a Static Passenger.
  • Token Human: Assuming he really is human, then he's the only one in mansion full of youkai. Averted; he's actually a youkai like the others. More specifically , he's a zashiki-warashi.
  • The Unfettered: He's so desperate to get Chloe back he's willing to condemn Goh and White Gestalt for a chance at giving her a quick trip home.
  • Walking Spoiler: He is the friend Chloe wishes to reunite with, not Goh.
  • Yandere: He wants Chloe to himself to the point that he broke Goh's phone so that the boy couldn't contact her and then is willing to pull off what Parker did in Blossoming Trail to get the city to pay for what they did.

    Rosie
A Pidove that is connected to Chloe, Specter and his master.

    Yuri
A Nekomata who serves Daiki, alongside Specter.
  • Adatpation Relationship Overhaul: He and his other counterparts are all brothers this time around.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: He's a Nekomata, a type of cat youkai, and his interactions with Specter show he's got quite the dry tongue.
  • Oh, Crap!: He looks in shock when he finds Specter missing, knowing that no one has any idea where he went and that they just lost the only youkai who can calm Daiki down. Moreover, he was the last person Specter talked to before he suddenly vanished...And even more so when Daiki asks who Specter talked to before his disappearance...
  • Youkai: A nekomata.

    Sylvio
A Kamaitachi who serves as Daiki's enforcer.
  • Achilles' Heel: Youkai apparently can be seen by Ghost types and are affected by Psychic-type moves, as proven when Ash's Gengar attacks him then holds him in place with Psychic.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Sylvio was a prick but then mellowed out to become a Lancer (Although he was still a pompous braggart). The worst he ever did was steal Yuya's cards and tried to pin the blame on him for impaling him with a spear (it was actually Yuto, It Makes Sense in Context). Here? He's gleefully murdering Spearows.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's a little too happy to kill the Spearows.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: He doesn't understand why it's wrong to murder the Spearows. After all, if a youkai loves someone, they do anything they can to make them happy. And Chloe will be so very happy if the tormentors who made her a nervous wreck are gone...
  • Mythology Gag: He's a kamaitachi, referencing how Sylvio once used the Yosenju archetype that has kamaitachi monsters.
  • Slasher Smile: Has one as he looks in glee at his handiwork.
  • Wicked Weasel: He's a Kamaitachi, a weasel-themed youkai, and he's a rather nasty piece of work.

    Crow
A karasu-tengu based youkai and temporary leader while Specter is away.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Has black bird wings but he's basically the leader of the youkai while Specter is out, is civil towards Gus, Mattholomeule and Emira when they enter his world and leads the fray to fight off Azura when Emira hands him Specter's broken brooch
  • Rousing Speech: Once he gets his hands on Specter's brooch, he uses it to convince the youkai to help stop the threat in the Boiling Isles.
  • Token Good Teammate: Compared to some of the other youkai, he's actually the kinder ones as he helps Gus and Mattholomeule in the hexorcism.
  • Winged Humanoid: Essentially Crow Hogan plus black feathery wings.

Others

    Spearows
A pack of Spearows that are the main stars of the "Spearow incident". They attacked Chloe for some reason involving a Pidove until Ash's Pidgeot came to the rescue.
  • The Bully: The lead Spearow who attacked a Pidgey and called his friends to attack Chloe. It's later revealed that this was apparently revenge for Chloe and Yamper attacking their boss (the Fearow who chased after Rosie).
  • Feathered Fiend: A pack full of them, as Chloe can attest.
  • Jerkass: A Spearow was being aggressive to a Pidgey whom Chloe was trying to befriend. When Chloe shoos him away with a stick, he gathers a pack to kill her.
  • Jerkass Victim: Zigzagged; the youkai don't see anything wrong with killing the Spearows — since they hurt a dear friend of Daiki — but to the likes of Ash and Goh? They're reacting in horror at what happened. Even Chloe was horrified at what happened to them.
  • Karmic Death: They get killed by Sylvio for how they attacked Chloe.
  • Mythology Gag: Ash's Pidgeot attacking the Spearow is a reference to the anime when a flock of Spearow were attacking a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Only mentioned in passing, but they're the reason Chloe's as paranoid and distrustful as she is. Melancholy Afterlife reveals the damage they did.
  • Walking Spoiler: Learning about them reveals, in a roundabout way, how Chloe arrived on the Train.
  • Would Hit a Girl: They attacked Chloe in a brutal event only known as "the Spearow incident", which left Chloe a pranoid, distrusting wreck.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Not only did they attack Chloe, but were also attacking a Pidgey before she interfered.
