Go To

A group of passengers who believe themselves to be the rulers of the Infinity Train. Their encounter with Boscha has left them in shambles, though.

    In General
  • Ambiguous Situation: Whether they retained their hatred of Denizens after Amelia took over is unclear. On the one hand, few of the members we've seen have shown significant hatred towards them. But on the other hand, Amelia isn't particularly the most caring towards Denizens either, so she probably wouldn't care as long as they got results.
  • Break the Haughty: In just one chapter, the Apex are completely destroyed and their pride in shambles after Boscha unleashes her fire magic on them. By the time Chapter 4 comes, one week later, all that's left is Grace, Simon and four kids. And then not only do they decide to make their own team, Zenith Fantasy, but Amelia steps in to completely remodel them, transforming the Apex into an entirely different thing.
  • Choosing Neutrality: After Amelia takes over, the Apex mostly mind their own business until Amelia gives them a mission to do.
  • Fantastic Racism: Looks down on everyone who doesn't have numbers or aren't human and call them "Nulls". Boscha herself is disgusted that the Apex are nothing more than a bunch of "racist pirates".
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: The Apex were once one of the most feared groups of Passengers on the Infinity Train. Then Boscha appeared, and the few that didn't run for the hills or get taken to the Heart System were remodeled into Amelia's personal assistants.
  • Hufflepuff House: Despite being one of the biggest threats to the Train for years, the number of members we actually know of is rather low, especially considering which of them actually stay in the Apex.
  • Humble Pie: To say their "fight" with Boscha humbled them would be an understatement.
  • Internal Reveal: Amelia was kind enough to tell the remaining Apex members the true purpose of the numbers and the Train during the time skip.
  • Kids Are Cruel: The Apex are a bunch of hellions who raid cars, destroy denizens and not give a flying feather if it means that they get bigger numbers. That said, nearly ever member changed their tune when Boscha rained on their parade.
  • Meaningful Rename: Minor, since while Amelia dubs her version the Revamped Apex, just about everybody calls them just Apex.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In canon, only about four of them were named besides Simon and Grace: Lucy, Lindsay, Alex, and Todd. This story gives a few more members names, assuming they're not just outright adding members to them.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Boscha's attack, most of the Apex fled or got their numbers down to 0 to escape another encounter with her. There are now only four members of the Apex left outside Grace and Simon.
  • Significant Wardrobe Change: Go from wearing whatever mish mash of clothes they had to the same grey uniform as Amelia once she takes over the group.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Back when they were part of the Apex, Grace and Simon were known to be ruthless killers of denizens ("Nulls") yet they're the lesser of evils when Boscha comes around. While there are presumably teens around still, most of them are neutral at best.
  • Trapped in Villainy: Once Hazel takes over and plans to join forces with The True Apex, the Apex has no choice but to follow her, as she's way too damn strong at that point for anybody to feasibly defeat.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: The Apex looks down on those who don't have numbers and don't shed tears on the denizens they destroy. So it's quite baffling when they find someone who not only has a number despite looking inhuman, but completely destroys them with little effort.

Leadership

    Amelia Hughes (Unmarked Spoilers
The former Conductor whose actions involuntarily made the Apex.
  • Action Girl: Has no problem fighting Hazel when she refuses to come with her back to the Mall Car.
  • Actually, I Am Him: Like in Canon, she eventually reveals herself to be the Conductor to Simon and Grace. Unlike canon, she does it in the worst time possible, as Boscha's right nearby to hear it...
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Season 3 Amelia learned to move on from the guilt of her actions; here, she's tearing up when she mentions Alrick and knows that she might never make it back home.
  • Adaptational Badass: She has more gadgets on her person than in canon, including one that allows her to teleport. She also gains access to a Miraculous, the Turtle Miraculous to be specific.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: Canon Amelia is nothing short of a Gadgeteer Genius, but this Amelia is dumb enough to reveal herself as the Conductor while there's a Mêlée à Trois happening between three groups, one involving the Lion of Cremation known as Boscha.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While Amelia was rough around the edges in canon, she treated Hazel decently before finding out her true identity, and even after that, she's distant, but reliable. This Amelia barely gives Hazel the time of day, and once she realizes who she is, she wastes no time applying "It" Is Dehumanizing to her. Needless to say, she pays dearly for it.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • In Blossoming Trail, she eventually came to work with the Red Lotus Trio, becoming their fourth member of a sort. In here, she's an Aloof Ally at best.
    • There's also her relationship with the Apex. In canon, the only Apex members she ever met were Simon and Grace, who she didn't hold in high regard. In here, she takes over as leader of the Apex once Simon and Grace split off and form Zenith Fantasy, making it her mission to both fix her mistake and get the kids back home.
  • Aloof Ally: She works alongside the Red Lotus Trio for the Mêlée à Trois, but she's not close enough to join them on their quest to stop Boscha or the Apex.
  • All for Nothing: Since Alrick is alive in this universe, everything Amelia did to recreate her past with him, up to and including the creation of Hazel, is rendered completely null and void.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Despite having been stuck inside a supernatural train that goes on forever for over three decades, she finds the idea of the Heart System, and what must be done to enter it, skeptical.
  • The Atoner: Has gone on to try fix the mistakes she did during her reign as the Conductor. As you can image, she has a lot to make up for...
  • Barrier Warrior: While donning the Turtle Miraculous, she's capable of using Shell-ter, which she uses to block Hazel's attacks.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Shouts this when One-One tells her that he might've angered Boscha.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: One-One casually asks for her help in Chapter 11, before she makes her proper debut in Chapter 13.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Her abandonment of Hazel and decision to focus on the Apex is one of, if not the, biggest reasons why Hazel became the way she is.
  • Deer in the Headlights: Once she notices the Glowing Eyelights of Undeath in the distance in the Heartyard Car, she freezes in place and needs Hazel to push her out of the way.
  • Deflector Shields: Has these as in canon, and they save her life when Boscha goes completely ham on her.
  • Fusion Dance: While we don't see her in action with the combined form, she fuses the Monkey and Turtle Miraculous once she snatches the former from Hazel.
  • Freudian Excuse: As she tearfully confesses, and any Infinity Train fan who's seen past Book 1 would know, she used to have a fiance named Alrich, who unfortunately died before they could get married. The Train picked her up due to her resulting grief, and she's been trying to recreate her past life since then.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: That being said, the sheer amount of pain and misery brought by her rule as the Conductor quickly undermines much of the sympathy that she could gather, even if the one to point this out is Boscha.
  • Gamer Girl: Very Downplayed. She plays Double Dragons and is good enough to beat Todd's high score, but she did it more out of nostalgia than anything, and she's too busy to keep playing anyway.
  • Hidden Depths: She loved playing video games as it's revealed that she beat Todd's high score in Double Dragons.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: One small showcase of Boscha's true power is all that takes for Amelia to sign out Boscha as anything other than a monster, constantly calling her "it" or "thing" whenever she's referring to her.
    • She later extends this to Hazel once the truth about her identity comes out, and it's Played for Drama, since it does nothing but give Hazel more reason to be angry at her.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: She abandoned Hazel years ago, and when she returns as part of the Apex, she barely pays attention to her while undercover, and only sees her as her serial number after she's outed. Naturally, Hazel decides enough is enough and reveals everything she did to the Train and how it was all for naught since Alrick is still alive.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Her being the Conductor that the Apex based their philosophy on is revealed with no dramatic fanfare.
  • The Leader: Has become the new leader of the Apex after Simon and Grace left and it overall disbanded.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She's a woman who's been stuck on the Train for over three decades, and she's not a pushover whatsoever.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. She shares a first name with Amelia, the Hexside student.
  • Skewed Priorities: Despite telling Hazel to watch out for anything dangerous, once Hazel does see something and tries to get her attention, Amelia decides to focus on getting a heartbeat out of one of the many people crucified on the Heartyard Car.
    • She also focuses on her work after discovering Hazel's true identity, despite knowing better than anybody else how dangerous she is.
  • Teleportation: One of the buttons in her suit allows her to teleport back to the Engine Room whenever needed. Needless to say, this saves her and the Red Lotus Trio's butt when Boscha decides to destroy the Car.
  • Token Adult: She's the only adult present on the Revamped Apex.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: She throws her shield at Hazel while they're both using Miraculous, and while the girl initially dodges, she's hit in the back on the head when the shield returns, taking the Monkey Miraculous away from her.
  • The Usurper: She usurped the position of Conductor from One-One, a fact Simon is more than happy to rub on her face when they meet again.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her obsession with reliving her life with Alrich caused the Apex to rise and ruin many cars and denizens for years. Boscha has a good point that most of the problems on the Train are her fault.
  • Workaholic: If she's not upgrading the Apex or managing their hang out, then she's keeping herself busy with some other type of job. She does this even when it would be better to focus on Hazel.

Members

    Amanda
A redheaded girl who's a member of the Apex. She first confuses Hazel's comment about Amelia as referring to her, and then becomes the first member to successfully merge with her reflection.
  • Fusion Dance: She becomes the first Apex member to successfully fuse with her reflection.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: Amelia gave her a pair of goggles that gives her access to a Denizen database, which she uses to explain what the Cupid Bee is.
  • Non Action Girl: Is notably the only member of the Apex group sent to the Cupid Bee Car who doesn't join the fight with Louise and Bort (Hazel is busy in the meantime.)
  • Redheads Are Uncool: She's a redhead who also happens to be a member of the Apex.

    Sara Dyktalis
A girl from the Pokémon World, who's currently with the Apex.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Sara from Blossoming Trail was a bitch through and through, hating Chloe out of envy. Here she only gets mad at Chloe when she assumes that Chloe convinced a rogue group of the Apex to wheel themselves and immediately changes her mind when Chloe reveals the truth.
  • Canon Immigrant: Kind of. She was mentioned in Melancholy Afterlife before appearing here.
  • Enemy Mine: In the Cupid Bee Car, both her and Chloe join forces on Louise upon learning about the truth of Apex Fantasy.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She was known to bully Chloe in the past, but she's appalled at the assumption of Chloe making Apex Fantasy throw themselves into the wheels and immediately teams up with Chloe when she learns that wasn't the case.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: She was a bit mean-spirited about it but she is right that Chloe is mad at Peacock dancing with Goh because she never had the courage to express herself.

    Cody
A young boy who acts as the tour guide of the Mall Car.
  • Nice Guy: Acts as nice and cordial as you'd expect from a tour guide.
  • Shrinking Violet: He's rather shy and withdrawn, shrinking a little when the Master of Masters asks where Amelia is.
