Denizens

    open/close all folders
    Lapis Lazuli
A Denizen from the same Car as Phosphophyllite, who's desire to see if it was possible to invade the Mana Academy Car was the reason the latter was shattered.
  • The Bus Came Back: Boa brings them back, donning the Boiling Undine armor in order to test Phos, in hopes of them gaining a Keyblade.
  • Curiosity Is a Crapshoot: In this case, the cat isn't Lapis, but Phos: Lapis wanted to go inside the Mana Academy Car to see if there really were magical stones, but didn't know if that was even possible. Cue her convincing Phos that there are Gems inside that need rescuing, and they run towards certain, shattering demise.
  • Lack of Empathy: After Chris theorizes that the Apex probably got the box containing Phos' shards, Lapis can only lament that they won't be getting much use out of them, since Phos isn't one of the magical stones. This proves to be The Last Straw for Boscha, who shatters her soon after.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Not only were they decapitated after callously leaving Phos to die, but when they prove to be too obnoxious for Boscha, she shatters them without a second thought.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Boscha shatters them once she has had enough of their annoying attitude.
  • Off with His Head!: They were decapitated just as they were getting ready to leave the Mana Academy Car.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Boscha asked them to take them to the place where Phos' shards were kept. When the box turns out to be missing, and Lapis can't muster the ability to give a heck, Boscha shatters them.

    The Cat / Samantha
A feline denizen who hosts many cars on the Train and has a bit of a hoarding habit. Also has history with the Apex, particularly Simon
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In canon, she had a few issues with letting just Simon, Grace, and just a single Apex member (Hazel) in her Car, while here she houses both them and the remaining Apex members with little problem.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Her real name, Samantha, is revealed here with no fanfare. In the show it's not revealed near the end of Book 3.
  • Pet the Dog: The Cat and Simon don't have a good relationship with one another — due to how The Cat ran away when a Ghom chased them years ago and she never came back for Simon, not to mention that she's probably still mad at the Apex for the destruction they caused to one of her cars — but she's charitable enough to let what's left of the Apex stay in her Car, gives them jobs, and even paid for plastic surgery for Grace and Simon.

    King Lartsa
The king of the Astral Car, whom Boscha requests to learn the ability to use astral projection.
  • A Taste Of His Own Medicine: Unknowingly did this to Boscha, not only letting her know what it feels like to be on the losing end of a hopeless fight, but showing her what it feels like to go through a trial you gotta figure out on your own.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: He's the king of the Astral Car, and also has the honor of being the first entity on the Car, Denizen or otherwise, that Boscha could not defeat.
  • The Chooser of the One: He alone has the authority to decide who gets to learn Astral Magic, and can seemingly tell the person's worthiness with ease.
  • Expy: The author notes state that to imagine him as Astral.
  • The Good King: He's the absolute authority in the Astral Car, but he only wants what's best for both his kingdom and the Passengers who come through: he humors Boscha's request for a duel, and even warns her to stop when it becomes clear she can't hurt him. Even after she gives up, he gives her not only the actual reason why he can't teach her, but some tips on how to become worthy to learn, and even how the Train Cars work in order to get back to the Astral Car whenever they need it.
  • Intangibility: His main power. He can phase through anything and nothing phases through him.
  • Made of Air: He doesn't have a physical form persay, so he can't be hurt by normal means.
  • Mister Exposition: He explains not only what Astral Magic is and what it needs to be learned, but also how the Train's cars work to ensure the group doesn't get lost.
  • No-Sell: Nothing works on him. According to Boscha, the last passenger who tried it had "fire abilities, summoned demons and a donut holer". Boscha herself tries attacking with a burning sword and it fails. Justified as he's an intangible being.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's calm and polite to Boscha's group even after they're arrested, and despite telling Boscha she'll never be able to learn Astral Magic with her current attitude he still gives her a chance after she cools down, even explaining how the Train's cars works to ensure they can return to his car as soon as possible.
  • Stealth Mentor: The fight he had with Boscha was both to see if she was as savage as the stories about her said, and if she was so unstable that learning Astral Magic could endanger her life.
  • Super-Strength: One of his first attacks sends Boscha flying into a floating crystal hard enough to crack it.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He has absolutely no issue giving Boscha a beating.

    Kirito / The Black Swordsman
A Denizen from the Aincrad Car whose sword, or at least a cheap copy of it, was given to Boscha before she reached the Astral Car.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: His sword is so sharp it can cut through anything: shields, buildings, and even Denizens.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Given the ludicrous feats he has done in his home series, the fact that Boscha managed to coerce him into giving her a copy of his sword says a lot at how weak he is compared to his canon self.
  • The Black Knight: It's his title, for crying out loud!
  • Dark Is Evil / Dark Is Not Evil: On the one hand, he's a Denizen, meaning that his purpose is to help Passengers deal with their issues. On the other hand, he was dumb enough to try scam Boscha despite how violent and easy to anger she is.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: He gave Boscha a copy of his sword, alright, but it was a pretty cheap one that broke with ease.

    The Cursed Princess Club
A group of Denizens who reside in the Cursed Princess Club Car. They're a club of princesses (and a prince) who, despite being saddled with incurable curses, are all about teaching themselves and the passengers to love themselves.
Out of the club, two members hold the biggest prominence: Calpernia, the president of the club, and Gwen, the princess of the Pastel Kingdom.
Tropes That Apply to All of Them
  • Aerith and Bob: Their names range from normal (Gwen, Monika) to weird (Calpernia, Syrah).
  • Be Yourself: This is the lesson they teach the passengers who go through their Car.
  • Curse: Each of them are afflicted with an incurable curse.
  • Gratuitous Princess: A club full of them, even!
  • Nice Girl: And a guy. They're all nice people who only want passengers to accept themselves, and also break through their shells.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Despite being called the Cursed Princess Club, the club accepts all cursed royalty of any kind. The name just stuck because it was the most marketable.
  • Oh, Crap!: Let's just say they're not prepared when Boscha suffers a Freak Out.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They only appear for two chapters, but not only do they give the Ruby Sulphur Trio their actual name, but also break through Boscha's arrogant stubborness and reveal she's got a lot more baggage than she lets on.

Tropes That Apply to Gwen

  • All-Loving Hero: Despite standing dangerously close to the living nuclear bomb that is Boscha, Gwen is nothing short of kind and helpful to her, worrying for her even when she suffers a freak out.
  • Green and Mean: Wholesomely Averted. Despite being green all around, Gwen is easily one of the nicest members of the club.
Tropes That Apply to Calpernia
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: In the webcomic, the only power Calpernia's curse gives her is the ability to transform into a giant spider, which she can't even control. In this story, she also has the ability to shoot spider webs from her hands, which she puts to good use to restrain Boscha.
  • All Webbed Up: She can summon spider strings from her hands.
  • Nerves of Steel: It takes a special kind of audacity to approach a passenger that's suffering a meltdown with a giant fire lion by her side that's the size of a house without even flinching.

    One-One
A spherical robot who serves as the Train's true conductor, tasking the Red Lotus Trio to stop Boscha's rampage.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: He manages to strike fear into Boscha, the infamous Lion of Cremation, who can destroy Cars singlehandedly, just by being a little too honest for his own good.
  • Big Good: He's the Conductor of the Train who wants nothing more than to help passengers move on with their problems.
  • Brutal Honesty: Let's just say he doesn't put a filter over his mouth when he tells when he tells Boscha how she's essentially stuck on the Infinity Train. Or that the best way to stop her is by killing her.
  • Dissonant Serenity: He's a little too calm for someone who's just drilled fear into the Lion of Cremation.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: And he does it without even meaning to! His Brutal Honesty to Boscha sends shivers down her spine, and unlike most people who get a reaction out of her, he lives to tell the tale.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Terrifies Boscha of all people just by being a little honest.
  • In-Series Nickname: Boscha calls him "ball robot".
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Him being the Train's true conductor is made rather clear with very little fanfare.
  • Nerves of Steel: Boscha, who at that point in the story has gathered a reputation for destroying Cars, barges into the Engine Room while One-One's working, and the tiny robot doesn't even flinch upon seeing her. Then again, he probably can't even feel fear.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only appears every once in a while, but he gives Chloe the mission to take down Boscha so she stops destroying the Train's Cars willy nilly and then later tells her that the only way she can be stopped is through killing her.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His Brutal Honesty regarding Boscha's status as a Static Passenger, as well as calling Amelia for help, sets off a chain reaction that ends with the Paradise Lost Car destroyed, and Boscha killed and subjected to the Heart System.

    Sensei
The Master of the Lustrous Car, whom the Gems go to whenever they need help.

    Antarcticite
A fellow Gem from the Lustrous Car, and Phos' former mentor. They've taken up Phos' duty since they left.

    Obsidian
The blacksmith of the Gems. They got a special gift for Phos.
  • Cute Clumsy Gem: They trip on their own feet before reaching Phos.
  • Failed a Spot Check: They somehow fail to notice Boscha, the Car Slayer, being with Phos until Bort points it out.

    Bort
The most powerful Gem, whose duty is to protect the Lustrous Car. They're not exactly happy to see Boscha waltzing around.
  • Disappointed in You: They don't hide their disappointment in Phos when they find out they brought Boscha with them.
  • The Guardian: They fancy themselves as this to the Lustrous Car, which is why they come into conflict with the Ruby Sulphur Trio.
  • Prehensile Hair: They can control their hair like this, which they do to swat Boscha away.
  • Uncertain Doom: Last time we saw them, they were about to fight Boscha. And given what a Villain Protagonist she is, it's unlikely she held back...
  • What Were You Thinking?: All but ask this while snapping at Phos about bringing Boscha to the Lustrous Car.
  • World's Strongest Gem: They're the single strongest Gem in the Lustrous Car, though how they compare to Boscha is unclear.

    Tuba
A purple gorilla that serves as Hazel's Denizen companion.

The Archfiends (Rubicante, Cagnazzo, Scarmiglione, and Barbariccia)
Four Denizens that guard both the Archfiend Car and the items found within: the Cloak of Rubicante, the Shield of Cagnazzo, the Arm of Scarmiglione, and the Winds of Barbariccia.

    Golbez
The Master of the Archfiends.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: For those who never played Final Fantasy IV, he drops a reveal on how close he was to Cecil Harvey (who is his brother).
  • Lunacy: He claims to be a Lunarian, at least.

    Cyber Peacock
A Denizen from Cyberspace that Chloe fights alongside the Maverick Hunters.

    Maverick Hunters
A group of Denizens who fight Cyber Peacock alongside Chloe. They include X and Zero, who fight alongside her, and Iris, who acts as mission control.

    The Master of Masters (SPOILERS
A black cloaked figure that is the leader of the Heartyard Car, where Boscha's body will stay and her soul split into denizens. His identity is Alrich Jimmens.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Alrick wound up dead in canon, and while he lives here, that comes with a lot of baggage; chief among them being the creation of the Heart System.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: Deconstructed. He's possibly the strongest person around during the Cupid Bee Car saga, but he mostly sits out of it even as the climax comes closer and closer. This eventually leads to the death of The Innocence, which is something he could've avoided had he taken a more active role. And it turns out, he's not the strongest person at all; he's a normal person pretending he is.
  • Ambiguously Evil: On the one hand, he's a cordial man who acts nice and friendly to everyone he talks to, and while he did release Hazel, it was to help Amelia bond with her so she wouldn't become a Hopeless Passenger. On the other hand, he has no problem letting Hazel hunt down Hazel Hughes in order to ensure her true identity remains a secret. Once his true identity is revealed, he turns out to be a legitimately nice guy without the best decision making skills.
  • Black Cloak: Wears one of these, which covers his entire body to further hide his true identity of Alrich Jimmens.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He comes to The Innocence's rescue when Louise and Mettaton attack her.
  • Canon Character All Along: His real identity is Alrich Jimmens.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's a figure in a Black Cloak who knows a whole lot more than he lets on, but he has good intentions and is quite friendly with everyone he meets.
  • Foil: To One-One; he's a black hooded figure, One-One is a small white bowling ball who both are trying to help Boscha move on but have different attitudes towards her.
  • Fatal Flaw: His bystander syndrome. He could've intervened when the Innocence was in danger, but didn't. And he could've told Amelia that he was Alrich alive all these years but didn't.
  • Friend to All Children: He created the Heart System alongside One-One to give Passengers a second chance, and he gets along well with The Innocence, who, while technically based on the teen Boscha, acts more like a young girl.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: It takes a special brand of terrible judging skills to think someone like Hazel should be allowed to roam around.
  • In the Hood: Wears a black hood that obscures all facial features. In fact, this is what makes Lucy mistake him for an Organization XIII member. It's also to hide the fact that he's Amelia's fiancĂ© Alrich.
  • Mister Exposition: He is the one that explains the Heartyard Car and the creation of the Boschazens. He also explains what Soul Denizens are after Louise and Mettaton try to kill The Innocence.
  • Mythology Gag: At the end of the Boiling Underworld Car, he's shown putting his hands behind his head, which is the Character Tic of Sora and Ventus.
  • No Name Given: It actually was given in Kingdom Hearts III, but it was muted. His identity in this story is Alrich.
  • Walking Spoiler: Plays a huge part in Act 2 and his true identity near its end changes everything.
  • Wild Card: It's very difficult to figure out whose side he's on, if any. He's ultimately on the side of good.

    Randall
A mellow watery blob from The Beach Car who has a donut holer business.
  • Insistent Terminology: No he's not selling pipes, those are donut holers.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Discussed; Atticus points out that by helping Tulip retrieve One-One from the Cat, he helped One-One return to his role as the Conductor.

    King Titus
A denizen made of paper who is found in Azada, a library of flying books. He is also Lexi's father.
  • The Good King: A kind king who rules over the magical library of Azada.
  • Good Parents: He's a loving and caring father to his son and helps Chloe work through her problems with her own father. He also allows Lexi to leave Azada with Chloe and Atticus to slay the Apex. However he also points out that he's not perfect and that he and Lexi have been in arguments before.
  • Mister Exposition: He's the one who tells Chloe about the different types of passengers, and that she's a Static Passenger.
  • Nice Guy: Invites Chloe and Atticus to stay the night in his library without a single arguement and has a kind nature to the books in Azada. He even allows Specter to stay even though his son has a clear hatred of the youkai. In the rewrite of Boiling Point, he doesn't see anything wrong with Boscha and requests her to burn down the forbidden section of Azada.
  • Paper People: Like his son, the only difference is that he already has a form he likes.
  • Parents as People: Discussed as he notes that for all Professor Sakuragi is, he is doing his best and even admits that he himself isn't a perfect parent either.
  • Real Men Can Cook: Can cook really delicious food.

     The Skull Heart
A replica of the same one from Peacock's world. Chloe has shown some interest in it.
  • Artifact of Doom: Replica or not, it's still the Skull Heart.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Chloe mentions it during Act 1, but it takes until Act 2 for it to physically appear.

     Helouise
A pink crystal ball working at Mana Academy, who's all but stated to be Louise's reincarnation.

     Hazelward (Unmarked Spoilers
The reconstructed body of Hazel, which has been repurposed as the head of the Stewards.
  • Creepy Child: She's basically Hazel without any of her memories and a Machine Monotone.
  • The Leader: She's the head of the Stewards, though we never get to see her actually lead them in the epilogue.
  • Last Episode, New Character: Is featured in the epilogue of the Train side of the story.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Due to the nature of her original body, she's the only female Steward (and indeed, the only Steward with an actual gender).
  • Walking Spoiler: Her very existence spoils what happens to Hazel at the end of the story.
