Main Characters

    Nasa Yuzaki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_nasa_yuzaki.png
"I'm the man who'll reach the speed of light before NASA does!
Voiced by: Jun'ya Enoki (Japanese, adult), Umeka Shoji (Japanese, child), Zach Aguilar (English)note

A young man who, embarrassed by his first name, strives to make a name for himself in order to overcome the humiliation. Tsukasa saves his life when he's hit by a truck, resulting in him proposing to her. They part ways for a few years, then get married when he turns 18.

  • Badass Boast: He sometimes declares that he's the man who will reach the speed of light faster than NASA.
  • Birds of a Feather: Despite having different personalities, he and Tsukasa have more things in common than initially believed. Nasa and Tsukasa are both kind and helpful people, they are both fond of cats and they tend to be very shy during intimate moments.
  • Book Dumb: Inverted. Despite being able to score well enough on mock exams that he has a chance at his extremely prestigious and exclusive school of choice, he occasionally comes off as lacking in common sense (e.g. refusing to consider a backup school, insisting on finding Tsukasa despite his injuries). He also mentions that he meticulously came up with a plan to give himself proper nutrition, but the actual execution just boils down to making hot pots. It's possible that his academic prowess is more due to hard work than intelligence.
  • Character Shilling: When Tsukasa visits Nasa's parents, Nasa's father thanks her for saving his son's life, saying that he can hardly imagine how eccentric people like him and his wife raised a "perfect" son like Nasa (disregarding how bragging about your children is a no-no in Japan.) At the end of the trip, Nasa and Tsukasa's apartment building burns down, and Nasa's first reaction is to ask whether anyone got hurt, prompting Tsukasa to go into an Inner Monologue about how she loves that Nasa is selfless, that he prepares for situations like this and he accepts others' kindness gratefully without feeling guilty about it.
  • Comforting Comforter: For Tsukasa the first night she stays with him.
  • Comically Lopsided Rivalry: Since he was teased for having the name Nasa as a child, he is determined to prove himself by surpassing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
  • Covert Pervert: When he sniffs Tsukasa's old room and finds her scent, a text box says his inner pervert is starting to awaken.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Nasa kept his valuables in a safe, his computer's backup data in cloud storage and insured most of the house's possession in anticipation of the worst to happen to his apartment. Sure enough, it was caught on fire during the day and he and Tsukasa went to visit his parents, but he was none the worse for fear. The only thing he failed to save was the potted plant he and Tsukasa got after their wedding, but it was still in good condition.
  • Determinator: A minor example when Nasa refuses to give up (despite serious injuries) until he can confess to Tsukasa.
  • Drama Queen:
    • A male example as he tends to overreact to rather minor situations, especially if Tsukasa is involved.
    • Somewhat played with as for major events (such as the apartment burning down), he behaves calmly and rationally, being more concerned about whether anyone else got hurt than how the event affected him.
  • Embarrassing First Name: He's rather embarrassed by the fact that his name is the same as the acronym for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This is what led him to study like crazy so that people can no longer use his name to make fun of him.
  • Encyclopaedic Knowledge: Other than Pop Culture and the finer points of history, he seems to know a little about everything.
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: Played with as Nasa and Tsukasa met after she saved his life and despite not knowing her name at the time, he proclaimed his love for her and asked to be with her. Tsukasa agrees under the condition that he marries her first, which he agrees too before passing out from the injuries he sustained from the accident. They reunite three years later when Tsukasa shows up with the marriage papers and reminds him of his promise. Despite initially being wary of the prospect of marrying someone he barely knows, he goes through with it and soon he and Tsukasa grow closer as they get to know each other.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: He has a soft spot for cats and yelled at his cousin for not immediately taking the kitten he found to the vet.
  • Love at First Sight: Nasa falls for Tsukasa immediately upon seeing her, and is so taken by her that he doesn’t see that he's walking into the path of an oncoming truck.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Doesn’t let getting hit by a truck stop him from finding Tsukasa. As Tsukasa points out, part of this is due to adrenaline, so he collapses once it runs out.
  • Meaningful Name: The parents used the kanji for "starry sky" in his name.
  • Minor Living Alone: He turns 18 at the start of the series, and has lived in his own apartment for some time so as not to worry his parents.
  • Mr. Fixit: He has fixed and even upgraded many household appliances in the bathhouse. He even manages to save Tsukasa's moon rock by doing emergency repairs to the display case with materials on hand.
  • Nice Guy: As he tells Chitose, he can't ignore people who are troubled. After his apartment building burns down, his first reaction is to ask whether anyone was hurt, before worrying about how the event in question impacted him.
  • Oblivious to Love: He blames himself for not noticing Aya's feelings for him until after he married Tsukasa, but Kaname says it isn't his fault - Aya wasn't brave enough to confess - and Aya herself seems to agree with her sister.
  • Popcultural Osmosis Failure: Due to being so busy with his studies, and later with working for a living, he has little knowledge of pop culture. His wife has wasted no time in giving him a crash course.
  • Rescue Romance: A bit due to Love at First Sight, but part of his falling for her was also because she saved his life during the car accident. This determination allows him to move long enough to find and thank her, and agree to marry her when she asked.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: As a result of his self-imposed rigorous studying in his childhood, he has professional-level accounting and programming skills, acts as the residential Mr. Fixit, and can even teach high school programming classes, but lacks common sense, social skills and knowledge of romance.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: He only has eyes for his wife, Tsukasa. In chapter 77, he admits to an old friend that he wasn't very interested in romance until he met Tsukasa.
  • Skewed Priorities: He ignores the life-threatening injuries he suffered in the accident to search for the cute girl who saved him and thank her. Unusually for this trope, it ends up paying off.
  • Stellar Name: He was named after the US space agency (written with the kanji for "starry sky"). His parents were apparently hoping it would push him to becoming a great scientist, but he considered it an Embarrassing First Name growing up — though it pushed him to work hard in school so people wouldn't make fun of him for it.
  • Teeny Weenie: Implied. Kaname claims Nasa "doesn't have anything great beneath the belt" when he complains about her foul mouth, and she later calls him "tiny" when she enters the male baths while he's using them, which he thinks is a jab at his... manhood (she meant his height).
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: In Chapter 142, it's revealed that Nasa forgot much of what happened after the accident, including that he apparently kissed Tsukasa back then.
  • Weight Woe: He ends up gaining some weight in Chapter 90, as a result of eating his wife's cooking and not getting enough exercise.

    Tsukasa Yuzaki (nee Tsukoyomi)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_tsukasa_yuzaki.png
"We can be together... if you'll marry me."
Voiced by: Akari Kitou (Japanese), Lauren Landa (English)note

A mysterious girl who saves Nasa's life when he gets hit by a truck, then marries him years later.

  • The Ageless: Retained her teenage appearance for 1400 years.
  • Anger Born of Worry: She's not happy when her husband pulls an all-nighter as part of his job and catches a cold.
  • Ambiguously Human: The story itself gives many hints to the idea that Tsukasa's true identity is that of the Princess Kaguya from the 10th century Japanese folk tale, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.
    • She is first introduced to the audience having protected Nasa from a fully speeding truck using her own body and is able to get up just fine despite being covered in her own blood, which she herself later confirms is the result of having a split head along with broken bones. Her second meeting with Nasa, which presumably takes place just minutes after the truck hit, shows her completely clean and uninjured, as if the incident never happened in the first place. She later off-handedly says that she "can't get hurt or sick".
    • The series is chock full of implications towards her being immortal. She's regularly uninterested in historical sites and is more interested in modern novelties like movies, TV shows, and manga. It at first may seem like she's just indifferent to history but later scenes imply that she sees nothing interesting about them because she's lived history and thus is much more impressed by the technological and cultural advancements that she sees around her. This is confirmed in chapter 147.
Nasa: I have to say, you really know your history, despite your lack of interest.
Tsukasa: Not really. I just have a good memory.
    • It's eventually confirmed in chapter 147 that she is in fact NOT Princess Kaguya but she IS immortal. It turns out that Iwakasa, the emperor's servant that was meant to burn the elixir, was her father and he gave it to her when she was on the verge of death, thus making her immortal.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's generally a nice person, but can be terrifying when she wants to be. She only pretends to be angry when she sees a photo of Nasa in a compromising position with Charlotte, but says that if she had actually been upset, it would have been a lot worse for Nasa.
  • Birds of a Feather: Despite having different personalities, she and Nasa have more things in common than initially believed. Tsukasa and Nasa are both kind and helpful people, they are both fond of cats and they tend to be very shy during intimate moments.
  • Blatant Lies: After Nasa's apartment building burns down, Tsukasa claims that she's living in a park to mess with Chitose and prevent her from realizing where Tsukasa and Nasa currently live. After Chitose tracks her down to the bathhouse, Tsukasa claims she's sleeping on the floor, with bottles of milk as a pillow, before Nasa calls her out on taking advantage of Chitose's gullibility.
  • Calling Parents by Their Name: She calls Tokiko, her adoptive grandmother, by her first name. This is because she doesn't have anyone who thinks of her as family, so to her, Tokiko isn't necessarily her grandmother.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: In Chapter 149, after Tsukasa survives falling off a cliff and seeing a self-inflicted cut heal almost instantly, she remembers when her father used the Hourai Elixir to save her from her illness (which had resulted in Tsukasa painfully burning alive as the elixir took effect), and angrily confronts her father to demand the truth. After learning it, she is rather upset, saying that she was mostly content with her life despite the fact that she thought she'd die young, and didn't want him to save her if it meant making her immortal.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Shows signs of this, such as being uncomfortable when Nasa was complimenting and getting a little too friendly with Aya, and later suggests that if the picture of him photoshopped holding Charlotte was real, she'd be rather upset with him.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her hair and eyes are both reddish-pink.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Everything went to hell for her after her father gave her the Hourai Elixir to drink. When the townsfolk find out that she's immortal, they immediately hunt her down to eat her flesh and drink her blood, which can cure illnesses. She's forced to kill the entire mob by herself before despairing for an unknown length of time, wishing to be rid of her immortality. And she's tried offing herself countless times, to no avail.
  • Death Seeker: As a result of being tormented by 1400 years of loneliness, and watching her close ones inevitably age and die, for most of her life she desperately hopes to eventually undo her immortality, so she can finally die in peace.
  • Deuteragonist: As the wife of Nasa, she gets just as much focus in the story.
  • Did You Actually Believe...?: She pretends to be upset with Nasa after seeing the fake photo of him cuddling with Charlotte as a ploy to get him out of the mansion. Not only does Chitose smugly assume that she's succeeded in destroying their marriage until Nasa and Tsukasa have left, but even Nasa thinks Tsukasa's angry until she says...
Tsukasa: Darling... Did you really think a picture like this would be enough to upset me?
  • Diving Save: Saves Nasa this way.
  • Fangirl: While she is shown to have an avid interest in Western movies at large, the Marvel Cinematic Universe particularly stands out.
  • Fantastic Medicinal Bodily Product: The villagers believe her blood and flesh can cure any disease. It's never made clear about her flesh, but she did offer her blood to help Nasa survive his injuries.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: She's a perfect lady, and give her ten minutes and she'll give you a perfect meal.
  • First Love: She is this to Nasa, who admits he had little interest in romance until he met her.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: She is a the responsible sibling (a hardworking, level headed housewife) to Chitose's foolish sibling (a spoiled, gullible brat).
  • From a Single Cell: The notes from Tokiko's studies of her state that she regenerates even after complete incineration.
  • Gamer Chick: She's an absolute beast when playing videogames. And not only the most modern ones - she is also really good with the original Street Fighter. According to Chitose, she spent a full day playing a game until she mastered it.
  • Going Commando: She wears a tracksuit without underwear while washing her clothes, since all her underwear is in the wash.
  • Healing Factor: Any injury she sustains will heal in seconds. Her blood also has healing properties if ingested.
  • Heavy Sleeper: Nasa finds out about this during his first night with her as she tosses and turns. She later inadvertently steals his blanket as well.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • As egalitarian as she is, Tsukasa is considerably more stubborn than she appears to be at first glance.
    • Tsukasa is a sucker for movies and pop culture.
    • Tsukasa is massively knowledgeable about Japanese history, even though she claims to dislike the topic.
    • She's also a closet tech geek. The one time she comes close to accept to return to Chitose's house is when she offers to buy multiple obscure videogame consoles for her.
  • I Am a Monster: In Chapter 150, she believes this about herself after killing the soldiers who'd pursued her and tried to take her immortal flesh.
  • Insecure Love Interest: When she sees how friendly Nasa and Aya are after he helped the sisters to save the bathhouse, she starts to feel a little insecure about it. She's also rather worried about him teaching at an all-girls school, full of cute girls who are close to his age.
  • Insistent Terminology: She's not 1400 years old. She's been 16 years old for 1400 years.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: Like her husband, she seems fond of cats and has a soft spot for their pet kitten, Toast.
  • Luminescent Blush: Triggered by Nasa's frequent compliments.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Though she has blood coming from her head, and the truck driver saw that she took the brunt of his vehicle impact in saving Nasa, she says her injuries are minor and walks away from the scene as if nothing happened. There’s a reason for that.
  • Meaningful Name: Her last name is the same as the Japanese god of the Moon, which has interesting implication with her frequent comparisons to Kaguya-hime.
  • Nice Girl: Like her husband, it's easily her most prominent trait, being a genuinely kind and helpful person.
  • Not So Stoic: She has many personality quirks underneath her calm and collected exterior.
  • Onee-sama: Chitose uses the highly formal and respectful "Nee-sama" on Tsukasa.
  • One-Woman Army: Fights off and kills an entire mob of villagers and soldiers hunting her down for her flesh and blood.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She's over 1400 years old.
  • Riches to Rags: She came from a wealthy family, as seen after her sister Chitose tracks her down in a limo and later kidnaps Nasa, taking him to a mansion. Despite this, she seems very happy living with Nasa in his tiny apartment with little more than a bed and table. Except it isn't her real family, it's her adopted family. And over the course of her 1416 years of life, Tsukasa has had a variety of lifestyles.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: A kind, mild-mannered and considerate pink-haired girl.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Tsukasa is a master at escaping conversations she doesn't want to have, especially when it comes to Chitose's rants.
  • Serious Business:
    • When Nasa seems completely clueless regarding popular TV shows and movies, Tsukasa gives him a passionate lecture on how he's missing out. Despite this, he still doesn't quite understand the appeal himself, but at least tries to start understanding it by buying a television for her so they could start watching shows together. Chitose even goes so far as to say that she'd be risking her life if she tried to interrupt Tsukasa while she's watching a movie.
    • Playing games also brings out her competitive side.
  • Signature Headgear: She wears a hair clasp on the back of her head. Turns out to be a major plot point, as it regenerates with her. Nasa thinks it may point to a flaw in her immortality, and maybe key to figuring out how to make Tsukasa mortal again.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Nasa is the first person she's ever loved romantically in her 1400 years of life.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She falls for Nasa because of his Nice Guy traits. Even after their first apartment burned in a fire, she points out her husband's anticipation of such event and his concern for others before his own wellbeing as his charm.
  • Smug Smiler: Often has one of these when teasing Nasa.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Downplayed. She can be warm and affectionate around Nasa, and gets along well with Kaname, but she's somewhat cold to those who get on her nerves. Tokiko describes Tsukasa as a bit of a Defrosting Ice Queen, prompting Tsukasa to object.
  • Supreme Chef: Her cooking is tasty enough to instantly turn around Aya's opinion of her.
  • Tsundere: A type B, as she's a Nice Girl but can be cold to people who get on her nerves.
  • Wacky Marriage Proposal: Says she'll date Nasa... if he marries her. To her surprise he immediately accepts.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Not her. The reason Tsukasa married Nasa is because he promised to take her to the moon, in the hopes Kaguya-hime is still there and can reverse her immortality. And when she finds out he doesn't remember his promise or the truth about her, she leaves in fear he will reject her. In fact, when she first found out she was immortal, she told her father that she'd never wished for an eternal life.
  • Women Are Wiser: Despite lacking her husband's talents, she has a lot more common sense. For example, when Nasa makes a skillful attempt to reason with Chitose, Tsukasa notices that Chitose is not inclined to listen to him.
  • You Must Be Cold: Inverted, Tsukasa offers her coat to Nasa reasoning that he needs to heat his body up due to the amount of blood he’s lost in the truck incident.

Arisagawa Public Bathhouse

    Kaname Arisugawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_kaname_arisugawa.png
Voiced by: Yuu Serizawa (Japanese), Kayli Mills (English)note

The younger of the sisters and Nasa's former kohai in middle school. She manages her family's bathhouse.

  • Affectionate Nickname: After she's known Tsukasa for a while, she asks if she can call her "Tsuka-san", rather than "Tsukasa-san." Tsukasa accepts and wonders if she should call Kaname "Kanassan," too, but Kaname insists that just her first name is fine.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Responsible one who does most of the work around the bathhouse and keeps her lazy elder sister in check.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: After Nasa warns Tsukasa that Kaname tends to make dirty jokes.
Kaname: I'd rather the guy who doesn't have anything great beneath the waist stop acting like I'm the queen of pervy humor!
Nasa: This is literally what I'm talking about!
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While she doesn't hesitate to needle Nasa, she's a good friend to him.
  • Only Sane Man: She has her eccentricities, but she's probably the most sensible member of the family.
  • The Peeping Tom: Walks in on Nasa while he's in the bathouse, insisting (unconvincingly) that she has to clean. Can often be found spying on the main couple hoping to catch them in an intimate moment, or listening for evidence of said intimacy, after they move into the bathhouse.
  • Psychological Projection: She generally gives advice to Nasa believing that Tsukasa has the same tastes as her and only lies to Nasa to avoid possible expenses or not to worry him. She doesn't realize that Tsukasa is totally honest when she says that she is not interested in such things.
  • Sailor Fuku: She wears one, likely to signify that unlike Nasa, she's still in school.
  • Wise Beyond Her Years: Apart from the fact that Kaname practically manages the bathhouse on her own, she's basically Nasa's love coach.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Her accidentally shouting that Nasa was a lolicon ends up being overheard by passersby. Both she and Nasa apologize for the scene, and she immediately accuses him of embarrassing her, even though she was the one who screamed it.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: She tries to give Nasa advice about his relationship with Tsukasa, the problem is that although much of her advice would serve in other types of series, they do not apply as much in this one as Nasa is already an Official Couple with his Love Interest, and that Tsukasa genuinely isn't interested in such things to begin with.

    Aya Arisugawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_aya_arisugawa.png
Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka (Japanese), Erika Harlacher (English)note

The older of the sisters and Nasa's former classmate in middle school. Lazy and procrastinating, she's had a crush on him for some time.

  • Analogy Backfire: She believes she's falling into this, since while most people would see having one's skin compared to silk as a compliment, Aya believes that it doesn't come out as well when you consider silk comes from insects' secretions.
  • Apologizes a Lot: Does this when she first encounters Tsukasa and accidentally overhears her humming and talking to herself about how great it was to have the bath to herself. She also apologizes for saying Tsukasa's skin was as smooth as silk and goes into an odd analogy.
  • Blunt "Yes": She suspects that Tsukasa can't actually cook, after hearing on TV that "young people nowadays" can't cook, leading to the following exchange.
Kaname: And can you cook, Aya-nee?
Aya: Of course not! After all, I am a "young person nowadays"!
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Despite being a slacker at heart, Aya is extremely talented at the pursuits she has mastered. Kaname describes herself as a hard-worker type and Aya as a genius type.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Her thought process is... random, to say the least.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Foolish one who does not do well at school and prefers playing video games to studying.
  • Gamer Chick: Possesses god-tier videogaming skills. Also a popular streamer.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Even if Aya had worked up the nerve to confess to Nasa, Nasa's single-minded focus on his studies, and later, falling in love with Tsukasa after she saved him, meant there was virtually no chance of Aya having her feelings reciprocated at any point in the time they knew each other.
  • No-Respect Guy: So much that her flashbacks were actively cut short by both the manga and the anime.
  • Not a Morning Person: She frequently sleeps in, often resulting in her being late.
  • Sustained Misunderstanding: Regarding Nasa and Tsukasa's relationship. It lasts so long that Kaname is frustrated at how dense she is. The revelation about their marriage hits her hard.
  • Unrequited Love: She's in love with Nasa and views Tsukasa as a romantic rival, but this is more Played for Laughs than most examples.

Tsukasa's former household

    Chitose Kaginoji
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chitose_kaginoji.png
Voiced by: Konomi Kohara (Japanese), Lizzie Freeman (English)note

Tsukasa's adoptive younger sister.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Tsukasa is understandably annoyed by Chitose's antics. While she cares for Tsukasa, her attempts to bring Tsukasa back come off as overprotective, and get on Tsukasa's nerves.
  • Captain Obvious: At the start of Episode 11, she looks at the place where Nasa and Tsukasa's apartment building once stood before it burned down, and says...
    Chitose: THE APARTMENT'S GONE!
Charlotte: Wow, what impressive powers of observation!
  • Casting Gag: Konomi Kohara voices Chika Fujiwara, yet another female character in an anime with themes of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. In another note, both of Kohara's characters are known to be clingy to the female lead, uses bizarre sense of logics to justify their actions, and are also Shipping Torpedo when it comes to the male lead dating/marrying the female lead of their stories(something that Chitose has been doing since day one, but Chika starts doing much later in the series).
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Chitose is clingy to Tsukasa and hated the idea of her getting married to anyone except her. She's furious at Nasa for stealing Tsukasa away.
  • Entitled to Have You: Again, sees that Tsukasa is rightfully hers to begin with.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Well she's not evil, just bratty and selfish, but when Nasa and Tsukasa are going to visit the former's parents on an impromtu honeymoon, she opts to not actually interfere at first since she assumes that they'll end up going through a "Narita Divorce"note . She's proven wrong at literally every turn.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Nasa and Tsukasa go on a trip to a hot springs in Chapter 69, Chitose stays home, declaring that she's "not enough of a goon to crash a married couple's private trip." She had crashed their trip to Nara, but the distinction in that case may have been that it was a visit to the in-laws, rather than a honeymoon.
  • Foil:
    • To Nasa. Both of them fell in love with Tsukasa after she saved their lives, but while Nasa is a Nice Guy who waited for years in the hopes of seeing Tsukasa again, Chitose is a Clingy Jealous Girl who tries to keep Tsukasa all to herself. Additionally whereas Nasa is considerate to his wife, Chitose does everything she could to take Tsukasa away, regardless if she wanted it or not.
    • To Aya. Aya is a rival for Nasa's affections, while Chitose is a rival for Tsukasa's. Aya doesn't think to confess to Nasa until after he's already taken, and seems to accept that she's already lost, while Chitose stubbornly clings to her hopes of breaking Nasa and Tsukasa up.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Even after she starts hanging out with Nasa's group of friends, most of the group thinks of her as rather annoying.
  • Hidden Depths: She's been given ample evidence of why Tsukasa chose Nasa, and knows firsthand that he's worth every good word that's said about him, but dislikes the facts that, first, her beloved Tsukasa was taken, and second, that she didn't have any say on the matter.
  • Insane Troll Logic:
    • She kidnaps Nasa, and initially plans to take pictures of him cheating on Tsukasa and have it published in tabloids. Later she goes off on a rant towards Nasa that only she should marry her sister.
    • Later in episode 7, she assumes that due to an urban legend, Nasa and Tsukasa would immediately divorce after running into some complications. The opposite happens, and any setbacks they run into only bring them closer together.
    • After those issues fail, Chitose later tells Tsukasa and Nasa that since she's the closest thing Tsukasa has to a family, their marriage isn't considered valid unless she accepts it. Nasa actually accepts this challenge, and spends a day in Kyoto with her, while Tsukasa hangs out with Charlotte and Aurora. In the end he's not sure if he fully convinced her, but Chitose does at least head back to Tokyo and allows him and Tsukasa to reach his parents without any further problems.
  • I Owe You My Life: Tsukasa saved Chitose's life when she was young by convincing Chitose to reach out for her hand when Chitose was about to fall from a cliff. Because of that, Chitose has devoted her life to Tsukasa.
  • It's All About Me: Believes that Tsukasa is rightfully hers alone and uses illogical answers to justify her crazy standards.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: As obnoxious as Chitose can be, she's right that she knows Tsukasa far better than Nasa does, and it seems strange for Tsukasa to get together with a relative stranger like Nasa. Nasa admits that she's not wrong about this, but vows to prove the strength of their love.
  • Jerkass to One: She's reasonably nice to Nasa when she doesn't know who he is, but when it turns out that he's Tsukasa's husband, Chitose loses her temper.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: In Episode 5, despite being hellbent on breaking Tsukasa and Nasa up, Chitose decides not to go after them while Tsukasa's watching a movie, knowing that Tsukasa would not take kindly to being bothered. She later leaves them alone in episode 7 after Nasa explains his feelings for Tsukasa some more, and telling her about how his life was saved by her when they first met.
  • Shipping Torpedo: She disapproves the marriage between Nasa and Tsukasa, mainly stemming from the fact that she felt Tsukasa rightfully belongs to her alone and nobody else.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: She responds to Nasa's expertly-worded attempt to negotiate with her by saying, "You can take your discourse and stuff it!" then having him kidnapped.
  • Super Gullible: She easily falls for Tsukasa's lies, such as about being angry about the edited photo of Nasa with Charlotte, or about living in a park. Aurora and Nasa note how easy to fool she is.
  • Tsundere: Her maids even outright call her one. She tends to explode whenever talking about Tsukasa, or breaking her and Nasa up. Despite her hostility toward Nasa, she actually seems a bit worried about him after learning that his apartment building burned down.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Nasa fixed the casing of Tsukasa's moon rock that Charlotte had crushed, but instead of properly thanking him, she used it as an opportunity to frame him as a cheater in hopes of making the couple divorce. Fortunately, Tsukasa saw through it.
  • Verbal Backspace: In Episode 11, she complains about the Arisugawa bathhouse, particularly how Tsukasa is staying there. When Kaname notices the disparaging tone and gets offended, Chitose sheepishly says she "didn't mean anything bad by that," and tries to placate Kaname, prompting Aurora to call Chitose "a wuss."
  • What Does She See in Him?: Her modus operandi for wanting to split Tsukasa and Nasa apart. While she slowly starts to realize he is the type of guy Tsukasa would like, she still doesn't like it, and tries to break them up several times, until Nasa finally tells her about how meeting Tsukasa felt like fate.

    Charlotte
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charlotte_tonikawa_over_the_moon_for_you_1.png
Voiced by: Hitomi Ohwada (Japanese), Natalie Hoover (English)note

Chitose's peppy maid.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's cheerful, friendly and overly quick to agree to Chitose's plan to destroy Nasa and Tsukasa's marriage with compromising photos, or to wield a giant sword against Nasa.
  • BFS: Wields a sword with a blade that's longer than she is when she finds Nasa in the room with Tsukasa's moon rock. Unfortunately, she ends up breaking the display case.
  • First-Name Basis: She's relatively familiar with her mistress, calling her "Chitose-chan."
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Swings a giant sword at Nasa while they're in Chitose's room, and accidentally damages the glass case surrounding a moon rock in her room. Fortunately Nasa is able to prevent oxygen from entering it and damaging the sample. Not that it ever stops her from joining Chitose's plan in Nasa's Frame-Up.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She has no issue with hugging Tsukasa tightly, and later continuously gets closer to Tsukasa when asking her about why she chose Nasa in the first place.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Constantly wears a cheerful smile on her face, even when she's attacking Nasa with a BFS.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: When Chitose suggests doing something to make Nasa look like he's cheating on Tsukasa, Charlotte's initial response was to strip naked.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Again like Chitose above, she doesn't spare even a second in thanking Nasa for saving Tsukasa's moon rock and goes on with the plan to frame him as a cheater.

    Aurora

Voiced by: Yuki Nagaku (Japanese), Michelle Rojas (English)note

Chitose's bespectacled, level-headed maid.

  • Not So Stoic: She turns bright red when Charlotte starts stripping down to take compromising pictures of Nasa. She also enjoys watching a new side of Tsukasa when Charlotte asks about her relationship with Nasa.
  • Stoic Spectacles: To contrast with the perpetually cheery Charlotte. However, she is still quite emotive and Not So Above It All.

    Tokiko Tsukuyomi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tokiko_tsukuyomi_anime.png
Voiced by: Fumi Hirano (Japanese)note

Tsukasa's adoptive grandmother.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: She appears to be a jovial old lady and even embarrasses Tsukasa a lot in chapter 71 in front of Nasa.
  • Big Little Sister: The truth is, she's Tsukasa's adopted little sister, who she took in during World War 2. But since Tsukasa is an ageless immortal, eventually time makes her look older than Tsukasa.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Tsukasa puts her name down as the witness for her and Nasa's marriage certificate, dozens of chapters before Tokiko is actually introduced.
  • The Gadfly: She loves teasing Tsukasa, who's rather dismayed to see Tokiko in the hot springs.
  • Killed Offscreen: She passes away between Chapter 143 and 145, since her health had long been deteriorating. Nasa learns of her death from Chitose.
  • Kimono Is Traditional: She often wears a kimono, but switches to more practical modern clothing for the camping trip.
  • Secret Test of Character: She pretends to be an ordinary old woman who's lost to see what kind of person Nasa is. Nasa, being who he is, passes, but Tsukasa gets annoyed at her grandmother for testing him.
  • Shipper on Deck: She gave the okay signal of approving Nasa and Tsukasa's marriage after he passed her Secret Test of Character, as well as thanking him for saving the moon rock in Chitose's house from being exposed to oxygen.

All-Girls School Characters

    Naoko Yanagi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naoko_yanagi_1.png

Nasa's former middle school teacher. She eventually takes a job at an all-girls school.

  • Beta Couple: She gets into a relationship with her former coworker Taniguchi.
  • The Bus Came Back: She's introduced as Nasa's teacher, and seems to leave the story after Nasa graduates from middle school. She returns in Chapter 48, in which she meets Nasa by chance, realizes that he's married and comes to the conclusion that he became a delinquent and married a woman just like him.
  • Hypocrite: When she returns later on, she gets a re-introductory scene that has her internally rant about how time-consuming being a teacher is, to the point that her breaks just consist of her doing more work. Shortly after however, when another teacher named Taniguchi tries asking her out, she brushes him and accuses him of not taking his work seriously before storming off, making it evident that despite her complaints, her Workaholic lifestyle is at least partially self-imposed. She later realizes this after meeting Nasa again and witnessing his married life with Tsukasa, prompting her to call Taniguchi and accept the offer.
  • Last-Name Basis: She refers to Nasa as "Yuzaki-kun," since he used to be her student. She even calls her boyfriend "Taniguchi-sensei."
  • Only Sane Woman: Subverted. In her introductory scene, she gives Nasa reasonable advice when she cautions him against putting all his eggs in one basket when applying to high school, and urges him to consider at least one backup school. Later on, however, she's shown to be just as eccentric as most of the cast.

Voiced by: Ayane Sakura (Japanese)

A rather mysterious student at the school.

  • Ambiguously Human: Like Tsukasa, Kaguya bears many resemblances to Princess Kaguya, most obviously her given name. Some of her schoolmates notice her wearing a face mask, supposedly because Earth's atmosphere doesn't agree with her, and ask if she's an alien. It's confirmed in Chapter 205. She is Princess Kaguya, but she had her memories of her time on Earth erased by the Lunar Envoy.
  • Ditzy Genius: She's capable of doing the calculations necessary to make a one-way trip to the moon, but can't even properly make microwaved curry.
  • Immortality Inducer: Her blood is the Hourai Elixir that made Tsukasa immortal.
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname means "moonlight." Her given name is an obvious Shout-Out to The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

  • Parental Abandonment: She lived with an elderly couple that wasn't related to her, but they vanished one day.
  • Trash of the Titans: Her room is full of stacks of books, but Kaguya claims to know where to find everything she needs.

  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: His dialogue is full of profanity, and Tsukasa and Nasa start swearing much more than usual when they're around him.

  • Dead Guy on Display: His head was cut off and mounted on a spear.
  • Not Quite the Right Thing: He saved his daughter by giving her the Hourai Elixir, but at the cost of betraying the emperor and making Tsukasa immortal, something she didn't want at all. When rumor spread about Tsukasa's immortality, people tried to hunt her down to eat her flesh, resulting in Iwakasa being killed and Tsukasa fighting off the people who tried to take her flesh.
