Fly Me To The Moon
is a Sonic the Hedgehog oneshot inspired by a Tumblr post. It's also a Sonic/Shadow fic.
Sonic is transported over 50 years into the past and onto ARK. While there, he comes across Maria Robotnik and a younger Shadow. 50 years in the future, he remembers some things from the encounter and decides to surprise Shadow by playing his favorite song.
Not to be confused with the film Fly Me to the Moon, or the manga Fly Me to the Moon.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Ambiguous Time Period: The story is ambiguously dated between 2000 and 2018 due to the past being implied as the 1950s.
- Fish out of Temporal Water: Shadow spent his first months of life fifty years ago in the past. He kept some of those traits even after waking up in the future. For example, his favorite song is by Frank Sinatra.
- Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My!: Maria implies that it isn't unusual for hedgehogs to work on ARK.
- Slash Fic: The fic is Sonic/Shadow-themed, with Ship Tease and later a Relationship Upgrade.
- Younger Than They Look: Shadow and Maria believe that Sonic is Gerald's assistant, despite Sonic being fifteen.
