The Generals

    In General

    Efink Murderdeath

Efink Murderdeath, the Farseer

Played by: Amy Vorpahl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/efink.png
"I'm an opportunist at heart, we need to determine who will win this."
Race: High Elf
Class: Cleric (Grave Domain)

The oracle and soothsayer of the Lord of Darkness.

  • Above Good and Evil: Briefly abandons the old spirits that only flattered her ego and begins to walk a path she describes as being between good and evil. Then she deposes the Boatman so she can become the conduit for all the power and knowledge of Evil in the world.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Alongside her vanity, this is her defining trait. These (plus a healthy dose of resentment for her father) drove her away from the forces of Light. She offers to depose Zaul'Nazh for Lilith even before his problems became known, she seriously considers switching back to the light when it meant being Queen of the Free People, and even after resolving to support Leiland Jr., she makes one last grab for power by deposing the Boatman and taking his place as a conduit for all the power and knowledge of Evil in the world, a fate set to feed her vanity and ego for eternity.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: Is fighting on the opposite side of her father, Telmere the Calm.
  • Expy: She's essentially Arwen if she had some of Galadriel's powers and turned evil.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: While she never outright betrays the party, she does flip-flop between the forces of darkness and light quite often depending on what she wants to accomplish.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Hinted at with Lilith, confirmed in episode 5. Efink was willing to depose Zaul'Nazh for Lilith long before his problems became public knowledge.
  • Klingon Promotion: Becomes the new Boatman after killing the old one.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Her last name is Murderdeath. And her first name is "Knife" backwards.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: She even states herself that she's an opportunist at heart and often makes impulsive choices based on what she thinks will grant her power and other's love.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: Tries to pull off the look, which somehow led to the decision to always be sopping wet since she thinks it looks scary.
  • Take a Third Option: The Boatman tells the generals they must gain the blessing of the four ancient spirits in the Tomb of Ultimate Evil before he'll consider bestowing the power of the Lord of Shadows on Leiland Jr. or die trying as Olag takes the power instead. Efink decides to kill the Boatman and take his place so she'll have the power to decide who becomes the next ruler.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: Kills her husband by pushing him off a balcony in an attempt to prove her loyalty to the other generals.
  • Unwanted Spouse: She married King Percival simply because he was the first person she met who wanted her and could offer her a route to power. She has since come to realise their marriage was a terrible mistake and although she still finds the idea of being Queen of the Free People alluring, the idea of being with Percival is unpleasant enough to make her hesitate. That said, while she is often repulsed by Percival, her feelings for him appear somewhat complicated. Specifically, she is unable to give a straight answer when asked if she loves him and repeatedly insists that the party keep him alive even after it's pointed out that she could still become Queen if he dies, at least until she unflinchingly murders him to prove her loyalty to the party.
  • Vain Sorceress: Her vanity is what guides the majority of the decisions in her life.

    Sokhbarr and J'er'em'ih

Sokhbarr the Boglord

Played by: Mike Trapp

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sokhbarr.png
"We're the bad guys!"
Race: Kashai
Class: Ranger (Beast Master)

The beastmaster for Zaul'nazh's armies.

  • Admiring the Abomination: Dotes on his scream beast companion and is enamored with a giant Lava Mog.
  • The Beastmaster: Has an animal companion and can summon wargs. It's particularly on display when he summons the lava mog in the Scary Volcano and directs it to attack the elven forces.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He is all around the friendliest of the group, and mostly sides with the Dark Lord because the forces of light tend to kill the creatures he protects on sight. He still doesn't hesitate to enact evil in his name, or summon a giant lava monster to ruthlessly dispatch the greatest forces of good remaining in the world.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Downplayed, he's by no means the most evil of the group but he does tend to remind them that they're the lieutenants of the Dark Lord.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Subverted. He has no qualms about killing species that fight for the forces of light but he's a friend to all creatures most people would classify as Eldritch Abominations, such as Scream Beasts whose method of procreation is so difficult and disgusting it's almost as if nature itself is willing them to go extinct.
  • Only Sane Man: Is often the guy who points out the insanity of their situation. He also tries to remind everyone that they're totally meant to be evil during heartwarming moments.
  • Redemption Rejection: He rejects Kasara the Beige's offer to join the forces of Light, rightly pointing out that they hate the beasts he tames because they're considered hideous.

J'er'em'ih

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeremih.png

A scream beast that serves as Sokhbarr's animal companion. As is typical of his kind, he's really fucking weird.

  • Animalistic Abomination: Despite being treated like the Team Pet, he's made up of nightmares so foul that he spawns other abominations, he's capable of transforming his entire body into a single fleshy membrane capable of flight, and he can of split himself in half to birth a new nightmare from his forehead.
  • Bizarre Alien Reproduction: Scream beasts have fully functioning wombs, even the males, but no way for the young to actually get out. When J'er'em'ih gives birth in the first episode, it involves his head inflating and splitting open. Add onto that scream beasts don't naturally reproduce, but instead give birth to the nightmares that people have. As a result, it's actually very rare for scream beasts to give birth to other scream beasts.
  • Body Horror: Constantly, including one notable instance in which a smoking tumor started moving across J'er'em'ih's body.
Sokhbarr: The thing with J'er'em'ih is I'm never sure when there's something wrong with him or whether it's just a thing he does.
  • Mind Screw: When he sees his reflection in a mirror, the reflection comes to life as a translucent copy before melting into slime that he then proceeds to lap up.
  • Punctuation Shaker: Four apostrophes with seven letters.

    Kraz-thun/Leiland

Kraz-thun the Umbra Knight/Leiland

Played by: Matthew Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leiland.jpg
"You are loved, you are important, you are loved, you are important."
Click here to see Leiland's Champion Form
Race: Pactwraith
Class: Warlock (Hexblade)

The king of the pactwraiths and the one in charge of the mission to retrieve Zaul'nazh's crown.

  • Butt-Monkey: Leiland has the worst luck out of all the party, especially funny because Matt is well known for his role in another D&D series, making him probably the most experienced player.
    • His repeated failure to retrieve Zaul'nazh's crown for years, as well as his inability to defeat a pair of halflings, is the source of a lot of jokes.
    • During the fight in the Scary Volcano, he spends the whole fight ineffectually trying to kill a halfling whose only weapon is a frying pan. (He doesn't even actually defeat her; Markus does, and gives him the credit.) While this is humiliating for Leiland in the story, it's understandable for Matt, since the halfling was given the stats of a storm giant to make her appropriately heroic.
  • Driven to Suicide: Briefly; after Zaul'nazh is vanquished, he's devastated and tries to take off his crown of chains (which would break the spells binding him to undeath) while declaring "I can't un-live like this anymore". Luckily, he's stopped by a combination of the crown burning his fingers when he touches it and Lilith slapping some sense into him.
    • Tries again when the skyship is destroyed and he's falling towards the Scary Volcano. He closes his eyes and accepts his fate. Although, the idea of finally getting to kill Galfast Hamhead reinvigorates his desire to survive.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He isn't a fan of child labor.
Leiland: I feel a bit uncomfortable forcing a bunch of children to make clothing. This has been an issue in many parts of the world. And I don't want to— I just want to turn around and pretend I heard nothing.
Sokhbarr: That's where you draw the line?
Leiland: Yes! Everyone has a line!
  • Expy: Of the Witch-king of Angmar.
  • Large Ham: When he gets into his role as a pactwraith, he really goes for it.
Maggie: Can't you keep anything at like, 80 percent?
  • Leatherman: As mentioned below his armor is studded and spiked leather and his gayness, while ambiguous at first is confirmed by the end.
  • Named Weapons: Griefmaker, the runeblade of sorrow.
  • No-Respect Guy: The rest of the party seems to constantly miss when he does anything cool and keep ribbing him about getting walled by a halfling.
  • One-Winged Angel: In the Final Battle, Leiland Junior grants his Champion a new form to ensure he will survive when he's surrounded by enemies that have cut him down.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Matt describes his armor as being covered in hooks and sharp edges.
  • Survival Mantra: To stop himself falling into a depression he repeats to himself that he is loved and important.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Maggie names her son "Leiland Jr." because she admires how he can continully pull himself up from defeat and humiliation and he ends the campaign surrounded by the generals who all care for and love him despite his flaws.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: Kraz-Thun is what Zaul'nazh names him, but everybody else just calls him Leiland. Even his life bar calls him by the latter.

    Lilith

Lilith, the Queen of Spiders

Played by: Erika Ishii

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lilith_3.png
Race: Drider
Class: Druid (Circle of the Shepherd)

The single mother of thousands of giant spiders

  • Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Averted. Despite repeatedly proving her power and competence to the point that everyone, including Zaul'Nazh and the four spirits of ancient evil within the Tomb of Ultimate Evil, thought she should've been promoted to Lord of Shadows she was still passed over by Gogmath for Zaul'Nazh instead.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Erika makes sure everyone is very clear Lilith is stacked.
Erika Ishii: You see her pale, delicate, elven features, and slender torso, and great rack! Ah, it is spoken of throughout the lands!
  • Expy: Of Ungoliant, with a side helping of Lolth.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Sometimes suffers the thousands of her brood but is fiercely proud of them, especially the older ones finding their talents or setting out on their own.
  • Good Parents: Is one, surprisingly. Even under dire circumstances, Lilith always takes time to encourage her many children. While she does offload some of the responsibility of the youngest of the brood onto the older spiderlings, she's shown to be willing to step in if the babysitters are getting overwhelmed.
  • Fallen Angel: She has existed since the dawn of time and was once a divine angelic being.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Efink, especially towards the end.
  • Lady Drunk: First introduced as waking up, after eating her bed partner of the night, with a hangover and reaching for a hair of the dog.
  • Literal Man Eater: Amusingly enough, accidentally. Her trysts keep ending with her eating her partner, but she's always too drunk to remember it and just thinks they keep skipping out on her before the morning after.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently she once ate the star forges that created all of the lights on the sky.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Lilith is as attractive as a Drider can be but she was born around the creation of the universe.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Is the mother of thousands of her brood and yet is still yearning for personal fulfillment.

    Maggie

Maggie, Daughter of Darkness

Played by: Rekha Shankar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maggie_47.png
Race: Tiefling
Class: Barbarian (Path of the Berserker)

The daughter of Gogmath and Zaul'nazh's girlfriend. She's known power and influence all her life, and is (usually) really nice and approachable to all her allies.

  • Action Fashionista: Greatly enjoys discussing fashion and tries to make recommendations to the others on how they can improve their looks whilst still fighting battles in the name of evil.
  • Dark Action Girl: Is a perky version of this.
  • Dark Mistress: To Zaul'nazh.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: She's Zaul'nazh's girlfriend and Gogmath's daughter, and is absolutely sick of not getting to be her own person outside of her relation to them.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Definitely dotes on her son.
  • Mama Bear: Fiercly protective of her newborn son.
  • Maternity Crisis: Her fire breaks just the skyship she was standing on is destroyed and she begins falling hundreds of feet towards the ground.
  • Out Giving Birth, Back in Two Minutes: Is back on her feet killing enemies just a few hours after giving birth.
  • Pet the Dog: Takes John Feathers shopping and is very defensive of his fashion choices.
  • Pregnant Badass: Is carrying the child of Zaul'Nazh which doesn't even slow her down as she's kicking ass.

    Markus St. Vincent

Captain Markus St. Vincent the Unseen Blade

Played by: Ify Nwadiwe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/markus_st_vincent.png
Race: Human
Class: Rogue (Pirate)

Mercenary captain of the Forgotten Fleet.

  • Battle Rapping: Is described as looking like a rapper with his gold mask and bling, and actually does break into a freestyle rap during one battle sequence.
  • Beautiful All Along: Underneath the mask he is an incredibly handsome man. But he believes that people would get confused on the battlefield since Beauty Equals Goodness so he chooses to wear a mask.
Markus: One of the main parts about being evil is looking scary. You should know, you're in that cloak. Everybody, the main difference you can tell about the forces of good versus the forces of evil, they're wearing weird white robes, all that ornate armor. We're wearing skull faces. Made out of gold. And silver. Scary swords that curve in ways that swords shouldn't. Spikes on pauldrons. That's not useful at all!
  • Bling of War: His outfit is so extravagant it doesn't seem like he should be able to fight in it.
  • Cain and Abel: It seems like he is the Cain since he wants to kill his brother so he can be king. However, the line becomes blurred when it is revealed that Markus believes his brother abandoned him in the woods to die to ensure there would be no competition for the throne. Markus cements his status as the Abel during their final confrontation because Markus decides he wants to capture his brother rather than kill him whilst Tavian is determined to murder Markus.
  • Category Traitor: He sided with Zaul'Nazh against every other human in the world.
  • Cool Mask: He wears a marbled gold and silver skull mask.
  • Cool Ship: The Siren, an airship loaded with arcane cannons and mercenary corsairs.
  • Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: In the Final Battle, as the party is trying to gain the blessing of the four ancient spirits of evil to make Leiland Jr. the new ruler of evil, Markus approaches one of the spirits and gives a speech about why it should bless them during a Dramatic Unmask. The spirit gives him the blessing, fully admitting that it's more out of embarassment that it was too enamoured with Markus' good looks to pay attention to anything he was saying.
Spirit: I... I'm so sorry. I didn't get a thing you said after you took the mask off. I-I was just— Do you model? Why do you wear a beard? I just feel like I can tell, even under the beard, your chin, your jawline is so strong. Uh... Fuck, sorry. I'm being unprofessional.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: Also in the Final Battle, immediately after the above situation, he approaches the final spirit who just wants to make people suffer. Markus offers to suffer for eternity by throwing himself into the void if the same happens to Olag, the spirit agrees, but Markus stabs himself whilst he's falling towards the void to set off his Fog of War ability, letting him teleport to safety whilst Olag tumbles to undying torment.
  • Dramatic Unmask: He wears his Cool Mask but removes it during the Final Battle to reveal he's distractingly handsome.
Leiland: "You will all suff- (sees Markus' face) holy shit!"
  • Establishing Character Moment: He's introduced convincing Privo to give him all of the Bloodkeep's arcane cannons because he can make better use of them despite having arrangements to be looting a city instead of pulling defense duty, charging extra for it because it's a favor and he has a clause in his contract about that, then reveals to his crew once Privo leaves that that's twice as many cannons as they can actually use before declaring that they'll sell the extras for a profit.
  • Expy: Of the Corsairs of Umbar, if they were more than bit characters.
  • In the Hood: Which complements the mask nicely.
  • Pet the Dog: When he takes down Galfast he gives the credit to Leiland who was temporarily blinded and didn't know it wasn't him
  • Punch-Clock Villain: He's the most mercenary of the group, only in it because his family seemingly abandoned him and becase Evil Pays Better. Even for what he calls his most evil wish, deposing his brother and claiming the throne of his homeland, he doesn't particularly want to kill to do it.

Forces of Darkness

    Zaul'nazh

Zaul'nazh, Lord of Shadows

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zaulnazh.png
"All the people of Elna will turn to me and say... FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO AHHHHHHHH!"
Race: Airu Spirit

The main villain of the setting and the party's boss. At the story's start he's been stripped of his corporeal form and reduced to a flaming mouth in his tower.

  • All Take and No Give: In addition to stringing Maggie along about marriage, a vision reveals that he only ever saw her as a sexy accessory who was also convenient because she was his boss's daughter, and he was going to marry her, but only because of Gogmath—and he openly planned to cheat on her first, possibly with Leiland, who he also saw as a sexy accessory.
  • Bizarre Alien Reproduction: Somehow managed to get Maggie pregnant despite being nothing but a giant flaming mouth.
  • Depraved Bisexual: Behind closed doors he objectified and lusted after Leiland and the rest of the Vinguri despite dating Maggie at the time.
  • Expy: Of Sauron.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Played on the insecurities of the Vinguri and toyed with their collective infatuation with him to play them against each other for his own amusement.
  • No Ontological Inertia: When he dies, so do all his spells. That means no more defensive wards, no more undead armies, and no more physics-defying power to keep the Bloodkeep from collapsing.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: His death is what kickstarts the plot, with the party scrambling to revive him before the Forces of Light overwhelm the kingdom.
  • Stupid Evil: Similar in theme to the original, his downfall is more his fault than anyone else's, recklessly hiding important information from his most trusted advisors and doing a generally poor job of managing a war for total conquest.
  • Sucksessor: Things have gone downhill for the forces of darkness ever since Zaul'Nazh became the new Lord of Shadows. See Stupid Evil above for more information.
  • Too Dumb to Live: As the generals note, the fact that he had nobody guarding the one place that he could be destroyed was a rather glaring tactical error.

    The Vinguri

Declan, Miles, Toby and Oswald

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vinguri.png
Race: Pactwraiths

Four undead knights who hunt Zaul'nazh's missing crown, led by Kraz-thun.

  • Affably Evil: Even when they're against the party, they remain as polite, well-mannered and supportive of one another as ever even in failure.
  • Disney Villain Death: Miles dies when he hits the ground hard from the destroyed Siren.
  • Dwindling Party: All four of them slowly die off over the course of the campaign.
  • Expy: Of the Ringwraiths.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Oswald decides to fight alongside Leiland during the final fight against Olag's forces. He is, however, killed by Frod during the battle.
  • Hero Killer: Toby kills Leiland in the final episode... only for the resurrected Leiland to return the favor with a Finger of Death.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: Miles reveals in his final moments that he was always bitterly envious that Leiland was Zaul'Nazh's "favorite".
Miles: You know something? You were always his favorite! His first. What are you supposed to do when your entire soul is devoted to something? And you know that you'll never be in first place.
  • Revenge: After Leiland and the generals kill Declan to make a new crown, the rest of the Vinguri turn against them.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: All of them have unusually posh names which contrast with their undead nature. Apparently they are known by scarier names around others who don't know their real names, but we don't hear them.
  • The Unfavorite: All of them. When Miles is about to die, he tells Leiland that they could all tell he was the favorite and it was terrible, because they were utterly devoted to Zaul'Nazh but could never be more than second best.

    Lilith's Kids

Jason, Jessa, Russell, Kyle and hundreds more

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Spiders

Lilith's many, many kids.

    Olag

War General Olag of the Blood Hoard

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/olag.png
"Kill me!"
Race: Orc

The Orc general of Zaul'nazh's orkish army. Fiercely loyal to the cause of evil and desperate to prove his worth.

  • Avenging the Villain: He wants to do this for Zaul'Nazh but mainly so he can still die in his beloved leader's name. Also, since he's too stupid to know who actually killed Zaul'Nazh he just blames the other generals and devotes all his time and effort to killing them and hoping to die trying.
  • Big Bad: Develops into the closest thing the campaign has to one, as he is a repeated thorn in the protagonist's side and leads the loyalists into battle against them in the Tomb of Ultimate Evil during the Final Battle of the campaign.
  • Death Seeker: He practically begs for a glorious death in all of his appearances.
  • The Determinator: As much as he really wants to be killed, he equally doesn't want to make it easy. He survives the suicide mission he is sent on in the opening episode and returns to make the generals lives miserable across the entire campaign. It reaches the point that Olag becomes convinced he's been cursed to never die.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Markus plots a particularly cruel end for Olag by tricking an ancient spirit to make Olag suffer eternal undying torment in the Fountain of Blood. In the epilogue, it's noted that Olag is still there, begging for someone to kill him.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Despite being a "War General" he isn't given the same status as the other Generals and they all view him as an annoying zealot.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's very vocal about his willingness to die for Zaul'nazh. After Zaul'Nazh's death, Olag becomes the leader of the loyalist faction that blames the protagonists for their leader's demise.
  • Why Won't You Die?: He wants to die and the protagonists want to kill him, all of them are confused about why it's so difficult.
Maggie/Rekha: Why doesn't Olag just die? Why does he want someone to kill him?
Maggie/Rekha: Just let us kill you!
Olag: (on accidentally no selling a strike from Leiland) Please push harder... please...
Efink: It seems like with such similar endgames, this should all be easier.
Maggie: Let me kill you! I'm so happy to kill you!

    Keldriel

Keldriel, Librarian of Lord

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keldriel.png
Race: Human

The archivist of the Library of Madness.

  • Bearer of Bad News: Subverted. She's always nervous and terrified, so when she says she has news, people assume it is bad, even when it isn't, unless explicitly told otherwise.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: She works in the Library of Madness. As a result, she's not all there.
  • Infectious Insanity: Her pre-campaign attempt at therapy did not go well.
Keldriel: My therapist went crazy. I told my therapist about my stuff, and they leapt from the top of The Bloodkeep, and they turned into bats, and the bats hanged themselves! [...] Do you know how committed you have to be as a bat to hang yourself? You can fly!
  • The Mentally Disturbed: She is definitely not okay, falling into fits of madness and constantly on edge.
  • Nervous Wreck: Is described as constantly having a look of terror etched on her face, as if she just was told terrible news.
  • Scary Librarian: Her madness lends her a spooky quality but she's quite tame compared to most things in the Bloodkeep.
  • There Are No Therapists: Mercifully averted in the epilogue, as it's revealed Keldriel is finally getting the help she needs by attending therapy sessions with Efink to help restore her sanity. She does note that she had tried a therapist before... but they went crazy.

    Privo

Privo

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Goblin

A treasurer of the Onyx Vault and the one who handle's Markus's contract.

  • Sharp-Dressed Man: He wears a jet black suit with gold accoutrement. Doesn't help him avoid getting pushed around though.

    Ipskix

Master Ipskix, Head of Tortury

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ipskix.png

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Goblin

The head torturer at the Bloodkeep Tortury.

  • Casual Kink: He is disgustingly open about how turned on he is by torture.
  • Hook Hand: Has a large, curved serated blade in place of one of his hands.

    Hobbert and Frod

Hobbert and Frod, Throne Room Guardians

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hobbert_and_frod.png
Race: Trolls

The guards of Zaul'Nazh's throne room

  • Berserk Button: They hate people "making doors happen" (opening doors without permission).
  • Catchphrase: "You made a door (happen)!"
  • Disney Villain Death: Frod falls into a dark abyss, seemingly forever.
  • Dumb Muscle: Served as this to Zaul'Nazh and then to Olag.
  • Post-Final Boss: By sheer luck, Hobbert is the last villain the group fights, with Leiland dealing the final blow.

    Sestra

Sestra

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Cyclops

Maggie's handmaiden.

  • Bit Character: She only really does anything in Maggie's introduction, trying to encourage her.

    The Boatman

The Boatman

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_boatman.png
"Get off my boat! What's your fucking deal lady?"
Race: Skeleton

Guardian of the Fountain of Blood in the Tomb of Ultimate Evil.

  • Did Not See That Coming: Efink's decision to kill him and take his position so she'll have the power to decide who gets to be the Lord of Shadows takes him completely by surprise. Doubly so, since he also didn't expect the ancient evil spirits of the Tomb to totally encourage her decision by reasoning power goes to those that can take it.
Spirits: Then you may have this power on the condition that you kick the old Boatman's ass.
  • Eviler than Thou: He is vocally very negative about the party's flexible definition of evil and their willingness to be genuinely supportive and nice to others. However, when he actually does get dragged into a fight against Efink he doesn't have the power to back it up.
  • The Ferryman: Subverted. Whilst he certainly evokes this trope by being a skeletal boatman he isn't a Psychopomp and is an ancient guardian not of death but of evil instead.
  • Klingon Promotion: Falls victim to it. The Boatman never realised his job security would ever rely on him having to win a fight against a potential challenger to his position.

    Corsairs of the Siren

Anne of Kilkathery, Ol' Pickering, and Bad Henry

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/corsairs_of_the_siren.png
Left to right: Anne of Kilkathery, Bad Henry and Ol' Pickering
Race: Humans

The crew of The Siren.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Ol' Pickering loses a hand when a flintlock pistol he's holding misfires during the battle aboard the Siren.
  • The Load: Ol' Pickering seems to do more damage to himself and his allies than the enemies around him. During the skyship battle he has two flintlock pistols misfire on him and he repeatedly gets in the way of his own allies attempts to attack the enemies boarding them.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Ol' Pickering thinks Lilith has an interest in him. Although he takes her rejection very well during the Final Battle.
Ol' Pickering: "Ah, I appreciate that. Well, we're friends."
  • Not Completely Useless: Despite everyone dismissing Ol' Pickering as useless due to doing more damage to himself than anyone else during the skyship battle, he rolls a Critical Hit during the Final Battle and does 30 points of damage with a flintlock pistol whilst riding on Lilith's back.
  • Only in It for the Money: When the question gets raised that as humans they might get lumped in with all the others during the fall of men, their only concern is at least they'll be running away rich.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Both Anne of Kilkathery and Bad Henry are killed during the skyship battle to show just how overwhelmed the generals are and how badly they've messed up.
    • In the Final Battle, Ol' Pickering finally dies too, then his body falls into the void of evil which is implied to torment the souls of those that fall into it for etenity.
  • Strictly Professional Relationship: Anne of Kilkathery has one of these with Captain Markus St. Vincent. Markus even said that he'd like to marry her at one point but both of them love the idea of getting money more.

    Gogmath

Gogmath, the Lord of Evil

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: God

The original god of evil, Maggie's dad, and the one who both created Zaul'Nazh and gave him the power to create his crown.

  • Disproportionate Retribution: When he learns that Zaul'Nazh got Maggie pregnant before marrying her, he proceeds to ensure that Zaul'Nazh spends the rest of his afterlife getting beaten up.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He's not the best dad, but he does genuinely love Maggie.
  • Expy: Of Melkor/Morgoth.
  • God of Evil: His role.
  • Parents as People: He has a hard time with the idea Maggie is now a grown adult and doesn't need him managing her relationships, and was unable to be present for her when she was a child due to getting banished to the Realm of Nightmares.
  • Straw Misogynist: Implied. Despite literally everyone thinking that Lilith should've been promoted to the Lord of Shadows, including the spirits in the Tomb of Evil who need to bestow their blessing on the chosen ruler, Gogmath instead selected Zaul'Nazh.

The Forces of Light

    Kasara the Beige

Kasara the Beige

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Airu Spirit

A powerful mage who fights against Gogmath and his minions.

  • Big Good: She's the most powerful member of the Forces of Light.
  • Expy: Of Gandalf.
  • A Molten Date with Death: This form of hers is killed when Maggie rips off her wings and causes her to fall into the lava of the Scary Volanco, although it's implied she usually resurrects.
  • Our Angels Are Different: She's certainly got the look of one, being a powerful, magical Winged Humanoid, and is mentioned as being some kind of divine being.

    Percival/Stalker

King Percival "Stalker", Son of Paraval

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/percival_0.png
Race: Human

The king of Free People and Efink's husband.

  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He only makes one round of attack over the course of the campaign, but it's a doozy. He may have been able to drop Markus in two turns if the latter hadn't peaced out on a giant eagle.
  • Dumb Muscle: He's very capable in combat... and extremely stupid to the point of not knowing how to write his own name.
  • Expy: Of Aragorn.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Sort of. Efink heals him during the fight in Scary Volcano and gets him to agree to join the forces of darkness alongside her. However, seeing as he's an idiot, it's unclear if he really understands what it means to join them. Also, he heals Galfast Hamhead after the battle, so he seems to still be good at heart.
  • Mountain Man: A scruffy, stinky dude who's far more comfortable in the woods than a castle.
  • No Social Skills: Lives alone in the mountains and cannot pick up social cues to save his life.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: Murdered by his wife when she pushes him off a balcony in an attempt to prove her loyalty to the other generals.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: He's an unkempt mess of a man who somehow won Efink's heart a long time ago.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Efink toys with the idea of getting back together with him properly for a little while, but when the group starts seriously questioning her reliability she asks Percival to kiss her to get him close and then shoves him off a balcony to his death.

    Telmere the Calm

Telmere the Calm

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: High Elf

Leader of the elves and Efink's father.

  • Expy: Of both Elrond and Legolas..
  • A Molten Date with Death: Is killed by being pushed into the lava of the Scary Volcano.
  • Parental Neglect: His total lack of emotion apparently extended to parenting, as Efink calls him out for never showing her any affection (which goes a long way towards explaining Efink's issues and why she went for Percival, of all people).
  • The Stoic: Has no reaction to anything around him. Not even burning alive in lava could change his detached tone.

    Drova Longfoot

Drova Longfoot

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Race: Halfling

The halfling who carried Zaul'nazh's crown across the land and threw it into the Scary Volcano.

  • Expy: Of Frodo Baggins.
  • The Load: Literally as well as figuratively having to be carried everywhere by Galfast and contributing nothing.
    Drova: I miss the Shire.
Brennan: And that's her turn. [beat] Sorry, Ruckland.

    Galfast Hamhead

Galfast Hamhead

Played By: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/galfast_hamhead.png
Race: Halfling

Drova's gardener and badass companion.

  • Arch-Enemy: Leiland considers her his since she has been the main problem for him and she repeatedly hands him humiliating defeat after humiliating defeat.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: She doesn't seem to have any magical powers or martial prowess, but she's a serious contender for strongest character in the season, having the stats of a Storm Giant, meaning she has a speed of 50 ft, 20 Constitution, 230 hit points, and 29 Strength.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Despite the nightmarish forces of darkness literally trying to kill her she never drops her cheerful and optimistic demeanour. She even shrugs off Leiland's vow of We Will Meet Again as she escapes for the final time.
Galfast: "Aye, that'll be the day, sir."
  • Expy: Of Samwise Gamgee.
  • Friendly Enemy: Much to Leiland's ire.
  • Frying Pan of Doom: Her weapon of choice
  • Guile Hero: Whilst she can hold her own in a fight she prefers stealth and tricks to direct confrontation. She repeatedly survives her encounters with Leiland through luck, is able to convince Avanash to give her the reforged crown and then hides with it aboard the party's own skyship. Brennan compares her levels of luck and trickery to Bugs Bunny by the end.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: Of the four halflings that started on this quest, she's the one who actually does most of the legwork and can fight off an undead knight. Not to mention she's one of two heroes to survive the battle at the Scary Volcano (surviving over a literal angel and an Elven king), and goes on to cause far more grief to the party than the other survivor, Percival. In fact, she essentially becomes the most troublesome Hero Antagonist to the party after stealing the reforged Last Crown from them.
  • Pintsize Powerhouse: Is a halfling but goes toe to toe with Leiland and does significant damage.
  • The Pollyanna: Is nothing but cheerful when confronting Leiland, which only infuriates him more.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Drova.

    Tavian St. Vincent

Prince Tavian St. Vincent

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tavian_st_vincent.png
Race: Human

Markus' elder brother.

  • Cain and Abel: Initially seemed like the Abel since Markus wanted to kill him. It later turns out that he's the Cain since he might have abandonned Markus in the woods to die and during their fight he is actively trying to kill his brother whilst Markus decides he'd rather capture Tavian.
  • King of Thieves: He's essentially heir to a pirate nation.
  • Punchclock Hero: Like Markus he's all about the money, and killing his brother.
  • Undignified Death: Is eaten by Je'ri'em'ih's asshole.

    Bulric Bellbarrel

Bulric Bellbarrel

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bulric_bellbarrel.png
Race: Dwarf

A Dwarven Beserker and a chosen champion of the Forces of Light.

  • Expy: Of Gimli.
  • Fat and Proud: Downplayed. Calling Bulric fat is probably an overstatement, but she certainly seems quite comfortable with her figure when Efink attempts to body-shame her.
Bulric: "No! I like how I look."
  • Odd Friendship: Admits she never thought she'd be friends with an elf but was fond of Telmere the Calm.
  • Revenge: Is determined to avenge Telmere the Calm.
  • Uncertain Doom: Last seen skyrocketing towards the ground from a destroyed skyship above the Scary Volcano. However, several other powerful characters managed to survive the fall, leaving her ultimate fate uncertain.

    Johnathan Feathers

Jonathan Feathers/Bahir of the Fast Wind

Race: Eagle

A giant eagle that Markus convinces to join the party.

    Avanash

Avanash

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avanash.png
Race: Elf

An elven master of crown forging. For refusing to give up his secrets to Zaul'nazh he was left in an oubliette for 250 years and has since gone full-crazy.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He still knows a lot about forging soul crowns, he's just also obsessed with keeping his bones inside himself.
Avanash: Well, you're going to have to get a fire going, which I don't think we have the ability to do here in Karradkar, 'cause the forges are defunct here, so you need to go somewhere with an active forge that has equipment that I need to use, we'll smelt the crown down. We're gonna have to get a crucible that's reinforced with these same sort of patterns of arcane runes here. Once we melt that down we'll be able to pour that back out, and then I'll take that, cool it, and then we'll do a process of beating that into shape, which will take a process of a couple hours, and while I’m beating into shape I can start to inlay the basics of the runes and any gems that you wanna put in there cosmetically. I don't know if you want cosmetic additions to the crown or if you just want the most basic version, and then at a certain point, I guess I'll just, throughout that process, be tempering. I'll need fresh water, and I'll just try to keep my bones.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: When questioned about his paranoia, he points out that it's hardly unusual to want to keep your bones inside of you. He just happens to take it to extreme degrees.
Avanash: What is crazy about wanting your bones?
  • Expy: Of Celebrimbor. A mystic blacksmith capable of reforging the crown. Unfortunately, he's also an Expy of Gollum.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: He was kept in a very tiny cell neck-deep in a flowing river for centuries - it's amazing he's as sane as he is!
  • Nothing Is Scarier: He's not so much afraid of something happening to his bones as much as what might happen to his bones that he doesn't know is happening to them.
Avanash: I'm gonna be very clear. The entire point of wanting my bones is that the worst thing, rather than what I imagine would happen to my bones, is what could happen to my bones when I don't have them. Do you understand? [...] Nothing is more terrifying than the unknown. And the idea that something is going on with my bones and I don't know about it terrorizes me more than any idea of a specific thing happening to my bones.
  • You Have Failed Me: After Galfast tricks him into giving her the crown and destroying the anvil, the team (mostly Markus at the request of Maggie) unceremoniously shoves him into the Scary Volcano.

    Seed of Maggie and Zaul'nazh
