Scrumptious Scoundrels

    In General
  • Blackmail: How they are encouraged to work for the FDA. Each of the Scoundrels has a secret which could destroy them. The FDA know these secrets and use them to motivate the party.
  • Contrasting Sequel Protagonist: As a prequel set in the politics-heavy world of Calorum, certain roles are occupied by similar characters, although with vastly different backgrounds and motivations.
    • At the start of his journey, Delissandro's position and general character is similar to Princess Jet Rocks, being a martially-inclined, barely adult child of a political and military leader, who insists he was made for the battlefield. However, with time, Delissandro grows more ambitious and ruthless, while Jet becomes more noble and conscious of the responsibilities that come with her station.
    • As the character with the highest station among the cast, Queen Amangeaux finds herself in a similar position as King Amethar, specially after the latter is excommunicated and stripped from power, much like she is basically dismissed after her husband's death. Both also have people they trust among their inner circles who have intentions and machinations they are not aware of. However, whereas Amethar is a war-hardened fighter and a near unstoppable force in battle, Amangeaux is naïve and unsure, and she's focused in stealth rather than all-out battle. Coincidentally, they both also have drama involving a secret child, although Amethar is initially not aware of his, unlike Amangeaux.
    • Bishop Raphaniel fulfills a position in Vegetanian court that is similar to the one Primogen Lapin holds in Candian court. However, Lapin is actually very dismissive of the Bulbian Church, and secretly works for another entity altogether, while Raphaniel is very much a devout Bulbian and works towards the strengthening of the Church. Lapin is also a deeply loyal and heroic figure underneath his manipulative persona, while Raphaniel acts kind and selfless, but has an agenda of his own and actively betrayed the king he was working for, by virtue of precluding him from having an heir.
  • Dark Secret: Their individual ones were used to blackmail them into working for the FDA, but it is knowledge of the FDA’s existence and their participation in the murder of Queen Pamela Rocks that truly binds them together.
  • Slowly Slipping Into Evil: All begin to get more and more morally ambiguous as the Ravening War goes on, culminating in their assassination of Queen Pamela Rocks. For some of the party, this provokes a My God, What Have I Done?. For others…
  • What You Are in the Dark: What the season and the journeys of the characters appear to be building towards.

    Amangeaux Epicée du Peche

Queen Amangeaux Epicée du Peche

Click here to see her second appearance

Played by: Anjali Bhimani

Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster)
Race: Fructeran (Mango)

The widow of former King Arthur Cardoon of Vegetania. The king's passing has left her queen in name only in many ways, a well as left her future in doubt, even before the succession crisis kicked off the Ravening War.

  • Authority in Name Only: As we're constantly reminded, Amangeaux is still the ruling monarch of Vegetania, which is pretty much ignored by the Vegetanian nobles who support Lord Cabbage's claim to the throne.
  • The Atoner: Being party to the murder of Queen Pamela Rocks shifts Amangeaux’s world view so completely that she becomes willing to give up all chance of ever becoming queen again to do right in the world.
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Amangeaux wasn't able to provide an heir for King Cardoon, calling to question her worth as a queen and leading to the succession crisis that caused the whole mess. It's later revealed that the king was the infertile one due to Raphaniel's poisoning; she was able to have a child with another man.
  • The Mourning After: Subverted. She misses her late husband dearly, but Amangeaux is very aware of the political realities of Calorum, and more than willing to marry Tomaté in order to ensure her safety.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's described in her introduction as 'Jessica Rabbit as a mango'.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Immediately has this reaction to the reveal that Queen Pamela Rocks was their assassination target and the true purpose of the FDA.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Initially is rather self-centered and oblivious, loudly proclaiming her right to rule Vegetania as queen at the gathering of St Eggamere, without a thought to the potential consequences of such an outburst.
  • Punny Name: Her first name is pronounced 'A Mango', which is, of course, what she is.

    Colin Provolone

Sir Colin Provolone

Click here to see his second appearance

Played by: Zac Oyama

Class: Rogue (Swashbuckler)/Fighter (Battle Master)
Race: Dairy Islander (Cheese)

A slightly bumbling sellsword from the Dairy Islands who has taken a place as Thane Delissandro's right-hand man.

  • The Atoner: Becomes this as the Ravening War goes on, as evidenced by him searching six hours for a Fructeran homestead so he can give a huge bag of coins to the child of the banana rower he killed.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Serves this role to Raphaniel as the bishop's mental health declines.
  • The Coup: In his backstory. It's heavily implied that he was somehow involved in Lucas Fontina's failed coup against the Dairy Isles government, though he claims that he's in danger because of who he is, rather than anything he's done. He is actually Lucas Fontina’s grandson, and watched his own father get melted down for drunkenly letting his heritage slip.
  • The Everyman: Compared to the nobles and political insiders around him, Colin is (or, at least, appears to be) an ordinary mercenary who got lucky throwing his lot in with Deli.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has this reaction to killing the banana rower to Leave No Witnesses and seeing what the other Scrumptious Scoundrels did to Queen Pamela Rocks and her retinue.
  • No Social Skills: Colin is... inelegant when talking to others. His Charisma score is a whopping 6, the lowest of the whole party by a wide margin.
  • Number Two: To Deli, although he tries to pass Colin off as an advisor to his mother.
  • The Spook: Out of all the members of the Scrumptious Scoundrels, he is the only one who Bishop Raphaniel cannot get a read on.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Colin’s ultimate approach to the Ravening War, which drives a wedge between him and Delissandro, who cannot understand Colin’s moral scruples with what they have done.
  • Shed the Family Name: Revealed to have done this to hide the fact that he is a descendant of Lucas Fontina.

    Karna Solara

Skald Karna Solara

Click here to see her second appearance

Played by: Aabria Iyengar

Class: Bard (College of Whispers)/Warlock (Great Old One)/Rogue (Phantom)
Race: Fructeran (Chili pepper)

A teenaged shapeshifter and spy who travels in Queen Amangeaux's retinue and often works on her behalf.

  • Ambiguously Bi: She harbors a long-standing crush on Deli through most of the campaign, but also gets more than a little flustered by Senator Gemelli’s Femme Fatale routine.
  • Body Horror: Her pact with The Hungry One is causing her body to slowly rot away. In Episode 2, she describes carving a newly rotted patch out of her body and burning it as an offering.
  • Deal with the Devil: Is a Warlock, wielding the power of The Hungry One.
  • Devious Daggers: A spy and infiltrator who favors light blades for combat and assassinations both. There’s also elements of Psycho Knife Nut, as her pact with The Hungry One has clearly not been kind to her long-term mental faculties. She’s very enthusiastic to get the chance to use a watersteel dagger in episode 3.
  • False Friend: Perhaps — she travels with Amangeaux, advises her, and even aids her, while at the same time providing information to her enemies and endangering her hidden baby.
  • Holy Hitman: She worships the Hungry One rather than the Bulb, and is more of a spy than an assassin, but she’s not afraid to do her own wetwork when necessary.
  • Klingon Promotion: The secret the FDA blackmails her with —She murdered her mentor Jacques Crudité and is operating under his identity. She's not super torn up about this, as she's also hiding a much scarier secret.
  • Leave No Witnesses: Karna is incredibly pragmatic about eliminating potential witnesses to her doings or nature. Thus far, she's killed the prostitute who was having sex with her actual murder target, and she even badly injured a loyal soldier just for seeing her true face in the first episode.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Seems to favor taking this path to political power; she initially backs Tomaté’s claim to the throne on the condition that he’ll give her a seat at the table, and later supports Delissandro’s bid to become chief of the Meatlands in exchange for becoming his skald.
  • Odd Friendship: Karna is mistrustful and skittish, and is a warlock for the Hungry One, but she has a lot of respect for the elderly, affable Bulbian priest Raphaniel. Despite coming from two vastly different backgrounds, they understand each other in philosophical grounds about the nature of their world and beyond. Also, as two accomplished liars and backstabbers, they are more comprehensive about each other's questionable methods than other people can be.
  • She Is All Grown Up: Following the second Time Skip in Episode 4, she’s grown into a full adult, and is specifically noted by Aabria to have become quite attractive.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: She quickly develops a small crush on Deli, which she finds confusing.
  • The Stoic: Due to her background, she's the least affected by the horrors of the Ravening War, the blackmail of the FDA, the death of Queen Pamela Rocks, and the existence of the underground fungal kingdoms. The only thing that has ever shaken her is the reveal that the Fellowship of Destiny’s Architects is an organization dedicated to thwarting her patron, The Hungry One, through war to make all of Calorum “unappetizing”.
  • Teen Superspy: Karna is 14 at the season's outset, and already an influential and politically savvy spy.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Unlike Colin, she has no qualms about encouraging Delissandro’s more cutthroat approach to ruling.

    Bishop Raphaniel

Bishop Raphaniel Charlock

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bishop_raphaniel_charlock.png
Click here to see his second appearance

Played by: Brennan Lee Mulligan

Class: Rogue (Inquisitive)/Bard (College of Eloquence)
Race: Vegetanian (Radish)

An elderly, apparently-doddering Bishop of the Bulbian Church, whose façade of affability hides an incisive mind.

  • Consummate Liar: Per Brennan, Raphaniel "is built to lie"; thanks to modifiers and lucky rolls, he is able to deceive the other players - even as they know something isn't quite right - with startling efficiency.
  • The Consigliere: He becomes this to Amangeaux after her husband's death, although his endgame in doing so is still unclear.
  • Cool Old Guy: While his exact allegiances and ambitions have yet to fully show themselves, he's been very helpful to the other Scrumptious Scoundrels thus far.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: In a very unconventional manner. He gets physically knocked over or drops things from how horny other people in the room are.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: After the FDA reveals itself as the Sanctus Putris and Archbishop Colliflower harshly berates him, Raphaniel spends the next few years writing and defending religious positions... including a work that will popularize the Ramsian Doctrine and condemn the Prophidian Theodicy, a core tenant of the beliefs of the Sanctus Putris, as heresy. These documents will then be elevated to church law by Belizabeth Brassica, one third of the Big Bad Triumvirate of A Crown of Candy, and will nearly entirely make up her motivation in the season.
    • Also serves as this to the Ravening War itself. Raphaniel's poisoning of Arthur Cardoon directly led to the succession crisis that started the Ravening War in the first place.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: The true nature and purpose of the FDA, as well as the nature of the reality of Calorum, as revealed by the Heart of the World.
  • Hallucinations: Raphaniel is occasionally plagued by visions of something violent and tragic.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: Goes from being a power-hungry Manipulative Bastard climbing the ranks of the Church to a near-demented Knight Templar determined to destroy the Sanctus Putris.
  • Older and Wiser: He's one of the canniest characters in the group, and by far the oldest, though the fourth episode makes it clear his age is beginning to weigh on him…
  • Villainous BSoD: Raphaniel experiences three in rapid succession. The first is when he realizes the Scrumptious Scoundrels have been manipulated into drawing Candia into the war by assassinating its queen. The second is when he feels shame for the first time in years while connected to the fungal Hive Mind Heart of the World. The third and possibly most damning one is when he realizes that the FDA aren’t manipulators out for power, like him; they’re zealots.

    Delissandro Katzon

Thane Delissandro Katzon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/delissandro_katzon.png
Click here to see his second appearance

Played by: Lou Wilson

Class: Fighter (Champion, later Battle Master)/Barbarian
Race: Meatlander/Ceresian (Pastrami Sandwich on Rye)

Son of the Chieftess of the Beef Clan, of the Meatlands. Delissandro has ambitions of uniting the Meatlands under his mother's leadership.

  • Ambition Is Evil: What sends him Jumping Off the Slippery Slope is the opportunity for him to make history.
  • The Chosen One: He thinks he is this, believing that being educated in the Ceresian Senate and chosen by the Fellowship of Destiny’s Architects means he's destined for greatness above all other Thanes of the Meat clans.
  • Determinator: Delissandro’s greatest strength and weakness is his singular focus. It makes him dedicated to completing his missions and achieving his personal goals, not allowing things like self-doubt to get in his way. It also makes him vulnerable to manipulation, as he refuses to consider taking a third option or that those he sees as allies may not have his best interests at heart.
  • Hero Killer Not only attempts to kill Pamela Rocks, but also plans for the assassination of Sapphria Rocks, one of her daughters and a brilliant diplomat.
  • It's All About Me: Grows into this mindset throughout the war, which leads to him cutting off friends and family in his quest for power. It also may contribute to his fear and discomfort with connecting to the warm and welcoming Hive Mind of the fungal kingdom.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He's a handsome and muscular young man, who appears shirtless in his character portraits.
  • Punny Name: Named after Katz's Deli, a famous New York establishment. Also, 'Deli Katzon' sounds like a corruption of 'Delicatessen'.
  • Secret Relationship: He's secretly having an affair with Senator Ariana Gemelli of Ceresia, a secret which would blow up both characters' reputations (and potentially exacerbate the war between Ceresia and the Meatlands) if it came to light.

The Fellowship of Destiny's Architects

    In General
A hidden council which claims to have guided Caloran history for generations. They're blackmailing the Scrumptious Scoundrels into aiding their plans, though their ultimate goals are thus far unknown.
  • The Chessmasters: The FDA is presented as a council of power brokers, moving chess pieces across the political board of Calorum for the greater good and using blackmail to use special agents for more precise wetwork. Subverted horribly in Episode 3, as the Archbishop Camille Cauliflower, one of the ringleaders, reveals the FDA to be part of the Sanctus Putris, a section of the Bulbian church that believes the Hungry One will devour the world when the world becomes too appetizing for it, and their goal to be making sure this never happens by covering the world in the blood and rot of death. They're thus more akin to fanatical terrorists than true conspirators.
  • Dramatic Irony: They believe the Hungry One will destroy the world when it becomes to appetizing, inplying the Hungry One has a will. However, viewers who have watched A Crown of Candy would know that the Hungry One, much like the Bulb, is mindless, and thus cannot have a will. This means every atrocity they have committed was, in the end, just unnecessary bloodshed.
  • Fun with Acronyms / Punny Name: As pointed out in the first Adventuring Party, their title shortens to FDA, the name of the US Government body concerned with food safety.
  • Knight Templar: Like Brennan said in the Adventuring Party for Episode 3, they're not shady masterminds working towards some concrete goal, they're true believers that will purposefully cover the world with the stains of war and the blood of the innocent and the cruel alike in order to stave off what they believe to be the end of the world.
  • The Omniscient Council of Vagueness: A textbook case.
  • Totalitarian Utilitarian: Their ultimate goal. The council pose themselves as the final defense, not against the follies of other Calorans, but against The Hungry One. For them, too much harmony and peace makes their world too appetizing to The Hungry One, and runs the risk of dooming all to Armageddon. Their doctrine states that war, while destroying the lives of many, spreads enough rot and decay that those who survive the conflict are ultimately spared.

    Darren Quichéi

Darren “The Dishless” Quichéi

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dishlessquichei.png
Race: Quiche

A sellsword, sent by the FDA to aid the Scrumptious Scoundrels in their planned ambush.

  • Affably Evil: Despite his reputation as a merciless killer, Colin Provolone remembers him as a stand-up guy who’d share drinks with the common folk. When interacting with the party, he's rough around the edges, but courteous to them and compliments their abilities.
  • Company Cross References: His name calls to mind Koschei the Deathless, who played a prominent part in the previous Dimension 20 series, Neverafter.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Shredded to pieces by a garbage disposal.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Much more motivated by the monetary rewards the FDA provides for his services than by their ideology.

Fructera

    Count Tomate

Count Jacque Tomate

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tomate.png
Race: Tomato

An ambitious Fructeran noble with strong alliances in Vegetania. His play for the Vegetanian throne kicks off the Ravening War.

  • Ambition Is Evil: Kicks off the Ravening War by attempting to claim the Throne of Vegetania, during the memorial dinner of its late King.
  • Break the Haughty: Starts out as a vivacious, bombastic socialite, if slightly overconfident in his claim to the Vegetanian throne and his ability to take it. After two years of the Ravening War, he’s described as a nervous wreck, terrified of how large the conflict he started has grown.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Plotted to kill the queen's child as a competitor to the throne of Vegetania, before presumably being thwarted by circumstance due to Amangeaux fleeing Comida for Uvano lands.

     Chutney

Chutney

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_chutney.png

Personal lady-in-waiting to Queen Amangeaux.

  • Back for the Dead: Reappears in Episode 5 just to die shortly after.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Amangeaux is forced to leave her behind when fleeing to Comida, as her absence would let the Vegetanians know the former Queen was truly gone.

     Gustavo Uvano

Gustavo Uvano

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Grape

The leader of Fructera.

  • Foregone Conclusion: Fans of A Crown of Candy will know that Gustavo survives the war and becomes the first Concordant Emperor.

Vegetania

     Count Cabbage

Count Belvedere Cabbage

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Cabbage

One of the most well-respected members of the Vegetanian nobility, and a strong contender for the Vegetanian throne.

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: He and his House are the ringleaders of the nobles who refuse to recognize Lady Amangeaux as Queen and plot to put one of their own on the throne of Vegetania.
  • Family-Values Villain: Despite plotting to usurp of the throne of Vegetania and waging war across countries, Count Cabbage is described by Karna’s spy network as a family man who is devoted to his lady wife.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Fans of A Crown of Candy know that he ends up ruling Vegetania. What he goes through to get there though…

     Archbishop Colliflower

Archbishop Camille Colliflower

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_camille.png
Race: Cauliflower

The elderly Archbishop of the Bulbian Church.

  • Big Bad: The final threat faced in the season, and the leader of the FDA.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Wears a charitable and grandmotherly image to churchgoers, but is secretly the mastermind of the FDA. Even her stature is a lie, as she demonstrates to Raphaniel in Episode 4. Even to the FDA, she turns out to be this.
  • Body Horror: Her transformation in the finale is downright nightmarish.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Violently shredded after being shoved into one of her own disposals.
  • High Priest: Serves in this role for the church.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Dies by being shoved into her her own garbage disposal.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: While initially the atrocities the FDA commits appear to be that of staving off the Hungry One, her true aim is to have Deus Pa'Zuul consume everything in Calorum.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: She ultimately seeks to end the cycle of the Bulb and the Hungry One, having all be consumed by Deus Pa'Zuul.

     Bishop Brassica

Bishop Belizabeth Brassica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_belizabethb.png

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Broccoli

The right-hand woman of the Archbishop, and an adherent of the Bulbian Church.

     Lady Wedgla

Lady Wedgla of House Iceberg

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Iceberg Lettuce

A lady-in-waiting to the former Queen Amangeaux, who sees opportunity in her mistress’s vulnerability.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Spreads nasty rumors about Lady Amangeaux and Count Cabbage in order to clear the way to the throne for herself.
  • Fairweather Friend: Called one explicitly. Feigned loyalty to Queen Amangeaux until she was no longer powerful, then set about trying to seize the throne for herself.

     Jacques Crudité

Jacques Crudité

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Carrot

Spymaster of Vegetania and Karna’s former mentor.

     Sir Allium

Sir Allium Goldring

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_alliumb.png
Race: Onion Ring

A knight of Vegetania, trying to stay true to the teachings of the Bulb

  • Blood Knight: Channels his need to do right by Bishop Raphaniel into a bloodthirsty desire to cut down any enemies of the church.
  • The Brute: For Bishop Raphaniel.
  • Dumb Muscle: Absolutely terrified of and a fanatic believer in the bishop’s word, willing to do anything at all so long as it avoids disappointing Raphaniel.
  • Going Cold Turkey: The Bishop reminds him “no pleasures of the flesh” while carrying out a mission, suggesting he’s trying to do this.

The Meatlands

     Chieftess Katzon

Chieftess Cleva Katzon

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_cleva.png
Race: Ribeye Steak

The Chieftess of the Beef clan, and mother to Delissandro Katzon.

  • Blood Knight: Her first instinct when uncomfortable is to punch people in the face. She is the muscle to Delissandro’scharm.
  • Mama Bear: Agrees to pay Colin Provolone in perpetuity, so long as he protects Delissandro from all harm. Threatens that if Colin should ever turn on his master, she will “slit him from gullet to groin”.
  • Parents as People: Confesses to not understanding Delissandro’s more oratory approach to leadership, as opposed to her more violent one, but she still wants to support her son and keep him safe. This results in her giving him far more leeway than is perhaps wise, especially when Delissandro begins using her name with impunity when rallying for a united Meatlands or declaring Colin a Skald.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: Embodies this as the Chieftess of the Beef Clan.
  • Walking the Earth: After Basha replaces her as chief with her son, she disappears into the wilderness of Carne and is never seen again.

     Sirley Hiag

Sirley Hiag

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_sirley.png
Race: Brisket

Longtime friend of Delissandro Katzon and proud warrior of the Beef Clan.

  • Big Brother Mentor: Older and worldlier than Delissandro, dispensing practical advice about some of the things the younger thane has romanticized.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: A strong warrior who exhibits a sense of joy and wonder for new experiences and encourages Deli to not take himself so seriously.

Ceresia

     Senator Foccacia

Senator Foccaccia

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Focaccia bread

An up and coming Senator of Ceresia, rising to prominence.

  • Expy: Of Julius Caesar, even taking over the Senate as its first Imperator.

     Senator Carbano

Senator Enzo Carbano

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_carbano.png
Race: Linguini

An old bastion of the Ceresian senate, father of Senator Ariana Gemelli, and grandfather of Delissandro Katzon.

     Senator Gemelli

Senator Ariana Gemelli

Played By: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_gemelli.png
Race: Gemelli pasta

A prominent voice in the Ceresian senate, and the aunt of Delissandro Katzon.

  • Femme Fatale: Takes on aspects of this in her relationship with Deli, whispering affection and promises of greatness in his ears until the Thane is wrapped around her little finger.
  • Iron Lady: A proud and proper Ceresian senator, with a little more warmth and charisma than is typical for this trope.
  • Secret Relationship: She’s currently having an affair with Thane Delissandro Katzon, a secret which would blow up both characters' reputations (and potentially exacerbate the war between Ceresia and the Meatlands) if it came to light.

The Dairy Island

     Colton Gouda

Colton Gouda

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Gouda cheese

A sellsword hired to escort Chieftess Katzon and her son to Comida for St. Eggamere’s Feast.

  • Bumbling Sidekick: Even Colin looks cool next to him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Gets punched in the face by the Chieftess when she’s looking to break something, and goes through a fearsome storm without a coat of any kind.
  • Out of Focus: Has yet to reappear after Delissandro takes Colin with him to the Meatlands.
  • Those Two Guys: Initially, with Colin.

     Manta Ray Jack

     Aaron Fontina

Aaron Fontina

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Cheese

Son of insurrectionist Lucas Fontina, and father to Colin Provolone.

  • Alcoholic Parent: Stated in the series to have been this.
  • Patricide: On the receiving end in the lead up to the final battle.

     Tarthur Cheddar

Prince Tarthur Cheddar

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_tarthur.png
Race: Cheddar Cheese

Reigning prince of the Dairy Islands.

  • Affirmative-Action Legacy: Played With. His daughter - Annabelle Cheddar - is a popular NPC in A Crown of Candy, however, since The Ravening War is a prequel she technically was created first.
  • Expy: Of King Arthur
  • Foregone Conclusion: Since the show is a proequel, it's known he'll survive the Ravening War and die sometime before the start of A Crown of Candy.

The Kingdom of Candia

     Pamela Rocks

Queen Pamela Rocks of Candia

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_pamelia.png
Race: Blackberry

The current Queen of Candia, and the mother of Rococoa, Lazuli, Citrine, Sapphria, and Amethar Rocks.

  • Foil: To Lady Amangeaux. Both are Fructeran nobles who married into foreign royalty. However, Lady Amangeaux’s status as Queen is in jeopardy due to her inability to bear an heir before her husband passed, her unpopularity with the Vegetanian people, and her naivety often leads her to make blunders and trust those she shouldn’t. By contrast, Queen Pamela is entirely secure in her role; she has five children, the love of the people of Candia, and all the poise and discerning judgement Lady Amangeaux lacks.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Fans of A Crown of Candy already know that Queen Pamela does not survive the Ravening War, which haunts her son Amethar. They may not expect that the Scrumptious Scoundrels are the ones to kill her though.
  • The High Queen: Currently the reigning Queen of Candia, with all the grace and poise this trope requires.
  • Mama Bear: Very protective of her daughter Citrina, refusing to allow Bishop Raphaniel Charlock to get his hooks into her daughter and politely but firmly snubbing him when he tries to win her over with flowery words.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Queen Pamela is a wise, beloved queen and mother, which makes it all the more painful when the Scrumptious Scoundrels ambush her carriage and she is murdered by Bishop Raphaniel.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Acts as a diplomat to strengthen Candia’s relations with other countries, like her daughter Sapphria after her.

     Citrina Rocks

Princess Citrina of House Rocks

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_citrina.png
Race: Citrus Rock Candy

The third princess of House Rocks, a pious worshipper of the Bulb.

  • Inspirational Martyr: At around the seventh year of the Ravening War, she is martyred in the streets of Greenhold after trying to entreat peace; her death and status as a pious and devout member of the clergy who forsook her royal lineage to be a member of the Bulbian church, does prompt the Vegetanians and Fructerans to eventually sue for peace, though the Candians are dragged even further into the war as a result.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Raised a princess, but abstains from wearing any jewelry beyond a circlet tied to her waist; she's far more concerned with charity and love for the Bulb.

     Sapphria Rocks

Princess Sapphria Rocks of Candia

Played by: Matt Mercer

Race: Blueberry Rock Candy

The fourth princess of House Rocks, a diplomat travelling to other nations to negotiate alliances.

  • Foregone Conclusion: Her death. However, dying at the hands of the Delissandro was not a foregone conclusion, and is surprising to newcomers as well as returning audiences.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Does not even make a proper appearance onscreen before being assassinated as a political play by Delissandro.

     Rococoa Rocks

General Rococoa Rocks of Candia

Played by: Matt Mercer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raveningwar_rococoa.png
Race: Chocolate

The eldest princess of House Rocks and heir to the throne of Candia, leading her people into battle as the general of Candia’s armies.
