Season 1: Battle Brawlers

Battle Brawlers

    General
  • Demoted to Extra: They're no longer part of the main cast after Battle Brawlers, with Joe becoming completely absent with no explanation while Runo, Julie and Alice get relegated to the supporting cast in New Vestroia before they are each Put on a Bus as well. While The Bus Came Back for Runo and Julie during the Second Arc of Mechtanium Surge, they never regain the main character status they had during Battle Brawlers.
  • Put on a Bus: Joe is never seen or even mentioned again after Battle Brawlers, Runo and Alice also stop appearing after New Vestroia and while Julie manages to avoid this in Gundalian Invaders, she mostly remains Out of Focus before being completely absent from the first arc of Mechtanium Surge. Eventually, The Bus Came Back for Runo and Julie during the second arc of Mechtanium Surge.

     Runo Misaki

Runo Misaki

Runo's appearance in Battle Brawlers
Debuted In: Battle Brawlers
Voiced by: Eri Sendai (JP), Julie Lemieux (EN), Monserrat Mendoza (LA SP)
A Haos Brawler and Dan's childhood friend who first appears in Battle Brawlers.

Her partner Bakugan is Haos Tigrerra.

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: If she sees another girl seemingly flirt with Dan, she becomes incredibly jealous and angry.
  • Demoted to Extra: From the second season and onwards, she plays far less of a vital role than she does in the first.
  • Dub Personality Change: A lot of Runo's more assertive personality traits get played up significantly in the dub compared to the original Japanese. While she is still is a headstrong Tsundere, she's presented as being a much more caring and typical teenage girl rather than being outright aggressive.
  • Forgotten Childhood Friend: She and Dan had a meeting with each other as kids once, but it was buried in their memories as they grew older.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Runo's default hairstyle.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Becomes jealous of Alice when she starts working at the restaurant, and later shows immense anger at Julie for not doing her job.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It does not take a lot to get her mad, as even minor provocations will send her into a fuming rage.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Only in the dub, which portrays her as bossy to an insane degree, argumentative, and unnecessarily harsh. Even so, when it comes down to it, she's loyal to her friends and Tigrerra.
  • Ms. Fanservice: First season only. She wears a midriff baring shirt, plus a miniskirt, exposing most of her body.
  • Shorttank: A bossy Tomboy with a Girly Streak in fanservicey clothes who's a Love Interest to the protagonist? Yep, she qualifies.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Though she does have a girly streak of her own, Runo is the tomboy to both Alice and Julie's girly girl.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Runo has a very cute, feminine sense of fashion and aesthetic, keeps Tigrerra in a dollhouse, and in the original Japanese, gives all of her bakugan cute nicknames.

     Julie Makimoto

Julie Makimoto

Julie's appearance in Battle Brawlers
Debuted In: Battle Brawlers
Voiced by: Risa Mizuno (JP), Katie Griffin (EN), Cristina Hernández (LA SP)
A Subterra Brawler from Australianote  who first appears in Battle Brawlers.

Her partner Bakugan is Subterra Gorem.

  • The Artifact: In Gundalian Invaders. Julie is the only female from the first season to have any relevance in Guandalian invaders and the second half of Mechtanium Surge.
    • Reimagining the Artifact: In Mechtanium Surge (as a news reporter).
    • Has mentioned that she's proud of it on one occasion.
  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: She's the girliest of the brawlers with a preference for crop tops.
  • Cultural Translation: A bit of an odd case, but in the English dub Julie is supposed to be Australian, really. At least it’s averting most negative Race Tropes.
  • Demoted to Extra: Is one of the protagonists in Battle Brawlers, but is a secondary character from New Vestroia and onwards.
  • Funny Foreigner: Downplayed, but Julie is a bubbly girl from Midwest America (Australia in the English dub) who is still learning Japanese and occasionally dumbfounds her Japanese peers with the occasional cultural difference.
  • Genki Girl: A more subdued variation. She's cheery and upbeat with an energetic bounce.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Julie is very athletic and is hinted to be a Passionate Sports Girl, especially with her equally sporty boyfriend Billy. She even throws Gorem as if she's pitching a baseball!
  • The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: Though it rarely comes up, she has insecurities when compared to her older sister, Daisy.
  • Gratuitous English: In the Japanese dub, she spices up her speech with English due to the fact that she's still learning Japanese.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: When she sends Gorem to battle, ball-form Gorem often rams into the other Bakugan on the field.
  • Meaningful Name: If spelled with an 'a', her original surname becomes Hayward, which is the name of a fault zone noted for it's devastating earthquakes in California, which fits with the Bakugan attribute she favours, Subterra.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Bared midriff? Check. Large breasts? Check. Skating around Runo's restaurant with said fanservice outfit on underneath her apron? Check. Julie goes all the way.
  • My Greatest Failure: A childhood school play that she messed up in and made everyone in the audience laugh at her. But it turns out she misremembered this event and in truth had stole the show with her clumsy antics and was deemed the most entertaining actor in the play.
  • Too Long; Didn't Dub: Her surname is apparently Heyward, but this was discovered long after the show had already called her Julie Makimoto.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Runo's tomboy; initially rivals, later best friends.
  • Ship Tease: With Dan and Billy. She had a crush on the former at first, but she ends up together with the latter.

     Alice Gehabich

Alice Gehabich

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alicetransparent.png
Alice's appearance in Battle Brawlers
Debuted In: Battle Brawlers
Voiced by: Mamiko Noto (JP), Emilie-Claire Barlow (EN), Christine Byrd (LA SP)
A Darkus Brawler from Russia who first appears in Battle Brawlers.

Her partner Bakugan is Darkus Hydranoid.

  • Beware the Nice Ones/Beware the Quiet Ones: Sure she's a cute Nice Girl and The Quiet One but there's a reason why she's The Strategist of the Battle Brawlers and the stongest brawler in the world as Masquerade in season 1.
  • Brains and Brawn: She's the brains and her Split Personality Masquerade is the brawn.
  • Continuity Cameo: Appears on Picture Marucho is looking at in season 4.
  • Cool Big Sis: To the entire team, due to being the oldest kid of the group, but largely to Runo and Shun.
    • She also acts as a big sister figure to Christopher, a young inexperienced Brawler who lacks confidence.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Alice and Hydranoid. Double Subverted later on - she's actually Masquerade's alter-ego, but since it's a Jekyll & Hyde scenario, Alice is still conclusively a good guy. Additionally, Masquerade actually seems to be in the early stages of a Heel–Face Turn before he gives his personality up to Alice completely.
  • Demoted to Extra: Like Runo and Julie, Alice and Hydranoid have greatly reduced roles in the later seasons. She got the worst of it out of the three, since she isn't even seen in person again after New Vestroia.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: She finally takes to the field just before the final battle of the first season begins.
  • Funny Foreigner: Averted. Despite being Russian, no quirks are added to her character.
  • Good Counterpart: To alter-ego Masquerade. While Alice is a Non-Action Girl who is a Friend to All Living Things, Masquerade is a sadist who takes pleasure in sending Bakugan to Hell.
  • Gender Bender: Alice transforms into the male Masquerade due to being infused with some dark energy during the initial incident that severed the barrier between earth and Vestroia. Masquerade is shown to still be with her during New Vestroia, though he's unable to take over her body.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: Alice is the Jekyll to Masquerade's Hyde.
  • Nice Girl: Very much so. She's soft-spoken, polite, and persistently considerate of those around her. She's practically The Heart of the group.
  • Non-Action Girl: Alice is this most of the time, preferring to come up with strategies rather than directly brawl. Justified Trope. Having the World's Strongest Woman as an Action Girl from the start would make things way too easy for the good guys (not to mention that Masquerade is a Blood Knight...).
  • Put on a Bus: She never appears again after the events of New Vestroia, outside of a brief picture cameo during the first arc of Mechtanium Surge.
  • The Smart Girl: The strategist of the team, and the wisest one at that.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After discovering that she is Masquerade, Alice goes into a self-imposed exile. After some training and reconciling with Klaus (and with a bit of help from Masquerade who hands his powers over to her in the end), Alice rejoins the team as their official Darkus brawler.
  • Walking Spoiler: As you could probably tell from all of the spoiler tags. It's nearly impossible to talk about her without giving away that she's Masquerade and that she eventually becomes the team's Darkus brawler.
  • World's Strongest Woman: Her Split Personality Masquerade is the strongest brawler in the world, up until his final defeat at the end of season 1 (and Alice is still most likely the second strongest brawler in the world until she retires - even after reuniting with Hydranoid - in season 2). By the way, she's actually stronger than Shun when at full strength.

    Joe Brown

Joe Brown

Debuted In: Battle Brawlers
Voiced by: Soichiro Hoshi (JP), Travis Ferris (EN), José Antonio Macías (LA SP)
The webmaster of the Bakugan Battle Brawlers' website who appears in Battle Brawlers.

His partner Bakugan is Wavern.

  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Despite the major role he played in the first season, Joe doesn't even get mentioned after the end of Battle Brawlers. Wavern, in contrast, returns in the first arc of Mechtanium Surge as a Spirit Advisor to Drago though and has been remembered by him a few times.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Goes from a meek inexperienced battler to the first in show to beat Masquerade fair and square.

Top-Ranked Brawlers

    General
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: They get brainwashed by Masquerade into serving Naga and become the main villains for the first half of Battle Brawlers.
  • Evil Counterpart: While they're Brainwashed and Crazy, they each serve as this to the member of the Battle Brawlers that uses their respective attribute.
  • Heel–Face Turn: When they're each freed from being Brainwashed and Crazy they show instant remorse for their actions and become the Battle Brawlers' allies for the rest of the season.
  • Put on a Bus: Julio and Komba are never seen again after Battle Brawlers and while Klaus, Chan and Billy each return for a few episodes during New Vestroia they also become completely absent by the end of the season.

  • Affably Evil: While under Masquerade's control. He's cold, cruel, and sadistic, but nonetheless a classy, polite gentleman.

  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: She acts as a bodyguard for the much frailer Joe Brown, and is much more eager to fight.
  • Official Couple: With Joe, as of the end of Battle Brawlers.'

The top-ranked Haos Brawler from Europe who appears in Battle Brawlers.

His partner Bakugan is Haos Tentaclear.

  • Ambiguously Brown: A subtler example, but he's a bit darker than most of the characters, and is hinted to be of Spanish descent.
  • Gonk: He's a homely brute with huge muscles, a rough face and is the tallest character in Bakugan:Battle Brawlers. Contrast to the slender, pretty Klaus.
  • Light 'em Up: Brawls with Bakugan with the light attribute of Haos, and is fond of blinding his enemies with Tentaclear.

Komba O'Charlie

Debuted In: Battle Brawlers
Voiced by: Marina Inoue (JP), Julie Lemieux (EN), Rodrigo Gutiérrez (LA SP)

His partner Bakugan is Ventus Harpus.

  • Blow You Away: He uses Bakugan that possess the wind attribute of Ventus.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Not as bad as Shuji's sibling. However, Komba is pretty jerkish and disrespectful towards Shun in the two duels they have.
  • Comically Lopsided Rivalry: He never comes close to having an edge over Shun in their battles.
  • Defeat Means Respect: After defeated by Shun, he begin respect him even call him Shun-Nii (Nii In Japanese means "Big Brother")

     Billy Gilbert & Subterra Cycloid

Billy Gilbert

Debuted In: Battle Brawlers
Voiced by: Kiyotaka Furushima (JP), Bailey Stocker (EN), Alfredo Leal (LA SP)
The top-ranked Subterra Brawler from Australianote  and Julie's childhood friend who first appears in Battle Brawlers.

His partner Bakugan is Subterra Cycloid.

The Six Ancient Warriors

    The Six Ancient Warriors
Pyrus Apollonir voiced by: Tetsu Inada (JP), Zachary Bennett (EN), Eduardo Giaccardi (LA SP)
Aquos Frosch voiced by: Tetsuo Sato (JP), Scott McCord (EN), Jorge Roig (LA SP), Herman López (LA SP, episode 34)
Ventus Oberus voiced by: Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi (JP), Katie Griffin (EN), Liliana Barba (LA SP)

Darkus Exedra voiced by: Voiced by: Hiroyuki Kinoshita (JP), Pete Cugno (EN), Mario Castañeda (LA SP)

A group of six ancient and powerful Bakugan who watch over Vestroia and its inhabitants.
  • Amphibian Assault: Frosch's battle form is a giant, bearded frog.
  • Badass Pacifist: Apollonir in his fight against Helios, with most of his abilities being geared towards defense and dropping the latter's power level without having to deal physical damage.
Spectra: This is a cowardly way to battle! Why won't you fight!?
Spectra: Nobody lectures me! Bakugan spirit is nothing compared to sheer power!
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Apollonir absolutely trounces Helios in their battle with each other even when the latter is assisted by Metalfencer. The display of power is enough to amaze even Spectra.
  • Killed Off for Real: All six of them die protecting the attribute energies from Zenoheld, but not before entrusting them and their respective powers to the Bakugan of the Resistance.
  • Living Statue: Clayf's battle form somewhat resembles a shakokidogu statue.
  • Multiple Head Case: Exedra's battle form is an eight-headed serpent similar to Hydranoid.
  • Odd Name Out: Lars Lion is the only one out of the six whose name consists of two separate parts.
  • One-Winged Angel: They typically appear as humanoid figures wearing cloaks and masks, but revert to their true forms when battling.
  • Our Angels Are Different: Lars Lion's battle form resembles an angel wearing knight armor.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Apollonir's battle form is a humanoid dragon with four sets of wings.
  • Our Monsters Are Weird: Oberus' battle form stands out as arguably the weirdest-looking of the six, appearing as a giant beaked head with large moth-like wings.
  • Physical God: They're all powerful enough to be considered as such.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Apollonir gives one to both Helios and Spectra, the former about how his pride as a warrior is so lacking that he has to rely on machines like Metalfencer to win instead of his own strength and the latter (and the rest of the Vexos by extension) for being power-hungry enough to always needlessly resort to violence and brutality when such is not the Bakugan way. Neither of them take it well.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Apollonir becomes Dan's temporary replacement partner after Drago is briefly brainwashed by Vexos, lending his power to help get him back.
  • Secret Test of Character: They subject the Brawlers and Masquerade to this as part of the deal to grant them safe passage out of the Doom Dimension, allowing their Bakugan partners to evolve in the process.
  • Take Up My Sword: Before dying, they bestow their respective powers to the Bakugan of the Resistance to keep the attribute energies out of Zenoheld's hands, with said powers allowing them to evolve into stronger forms.
  • The Worf Effect: While they put up a good fight, even their combined might proved no match for the power of Assail Farbros.

Season 2: New Vestroia

Battle Brawlers/The Resistance

    General

     Mira Fermin

Mira Fermin

Debuted In: New Vestroia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miras2.jpg
Mira's appearance in New Vestroia

A Subterra Brawler from the planet Vestal and leader of the Resistance who first appears in New Vestroia.

Her partner Bakugan in New Vestroia is Subterra Wilda.

Her partner Bakugan in the second arc of Mechtanium Surge is Subterra Roxtor.

  • Action Girl: In New Vestroia. She has her own share of won Brawls against pretty much every member of the Vexos barring her brother, Spectra, against whom she lost both times they brawled.
  • The Big Guy: Both Mira and Wilda. Mira is an oddity because she's also pretty smart.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Has the shortest hair out of all the females in the franchise and is an Action Girl and Tomboy. However, she also manages to style that hair (somehow) into very fashionable flares (look at the picture above).
  • Did Not Get The Guy: She has feelings for Dan, but unfortunately, he's already with Runo.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Her attribute is Subterra.
  • Fake Defector: She has no choice but faked her defection to the Vexos only to find out the location of the imprisoned Original Battle Brawler partners and try to make her brother betray the Vexos.
  • Girliness Upgrade: In Mechtanium Surge, she wears a new suit with a miniskirt, high heels and does lipstick.
  • Ironic Name: A case of Bilingual Bonus: Mira is a Slavic name that means "she who is peaceful". This Mira, however, is a Hot-Blooded, passionate lass that will not back down until all options are exausted.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Doesn't show as much skin as Runo or Julie did/do but she more than makes up for it with an attractive body. Her clothes also emphasize her bust, legs and behind. She also gets some Male Gaze moments.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Mira is the only girl in New Vestroia.

     Ace Grit

Ace Grit

Debuted In: New Vestroia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acegritrender.png

A Darkus Brawler from the planet Vestal and member of the Resistance who appears in New Vestroia.

His partner Bakugan is Darkus Percival.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Ace is the only character with darkus element that wasn't an antagonist to begin with.
  • Fantastic Racism: He is rather cold to humans and he dissaproves at first for the Brawlers to join the Resistance.
  • The Lancer: Ace takes the role from Shun, Percival takes over from Tigrerra.
  • Mysterious Past: The only member of resistance who never shown his family background.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Percival, a dragon-humanoid knight Bakugan.
  • Put on a Bus: He never appears again after the events of New Vestroia, outside of a brief picture cameo during the first arc of Mechtanium Surge.

     Baron Leltoy
Debuted In: New Vestroia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baronleltoyrender.png

A Haos Brawler from the planet Vestal and member of the Resistance who appears in New Vestroia.

His partner Bakugan is Haos Nemus.

  • Ascended Fanboy: Just look how his reaction when he see the Battle Brawler and Drago for the first time!
  • Cool Big Bro: Baron is the oldest child. In free time, he shown really enjoy play with all his younger siblings.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Baron has very muscular arms.
  • Idiot Hero: Subverted.Though surprisingly good at working with computers and brawling.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: He have six younger siblings.
  • Put on a Bus: He never appears again after the events of New Vestroia, outside of a brief picture cameo during the first arc of Mechtanium Surge.
  • Younger Than He Looks: Baron is twelve during the events of New Vestroia, making him not only younger than even Marucho but also the youngest character to ever join the Battle Brawlers. Despite this, he's just as tall, if not taller, than Ace (who's sixteen). And he's easily one of the most muscular characters in New Vestroia. Can also double as The Big Guy from the Gentle Giant perspective, since he's easily one of the largest brawlers during New Vestroia despite his age.

Season 3: Gundalian Invaders

Battle Brawlers

     Fabia Sheen

Fabia Sheen

Debuted In: Gundalian Invaders
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fabia_sheen_1.png
Fabia's Human Form
Click here to see Fabia's True Form

A Haos Brawler and the princess of Neathia who first appears in Gundalian Invaders.

Her partner Bakugan is Haos Aranaut.

  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Fabia never shows her real form in front of Dan and the others. When Dan is about enter her room, she quickly changes from her real form to human form. While it's never stated, she probably never shows this because she wanted to blend herself in with her human friends.
  • Alien Princess: She's the princess of Neathia, an alien planet from another dimension.
  • Arranged Marriage: She was engaged to Aranaut's former partner, Jin, who was killed in battle sometime before the events of Gundalian Invaders.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: The death of her fiancé made her hard to trust Gundalian to be their allies. She gets better and start abandon this view.
  • Easy Amnesia: Aranaut. However, it turns out that he was faking it all along.
  • The High Queen: In the first arc of Mechtanium Surge she is revealed to have become Queen of Neathia since the end of the Neathia-Gundalia Civil War due to her older sister, Queen Serena, abdicating the throne to become the ambassador between Neathia and Gundalia.
  • Light 'em Up: She uses Haos Bakugan, with Haos Aranaut as her partner.
  • Messy Hair: In her human form, her hair is shown to be short and messy.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: In her true form, her eyes are completely green.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Her name is based off Byzantine Empress, Fabia Eudokia.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female member of the Battle Brawlers during Gundalian Invaders.
  • Spanner in the Works: If she hadn’t shown up and run into Dan, then REN’s ruse would’ve gone unrevealed.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She went from being a rather poor Brawler and losing a majority of her battles, to a very skilled one. The best example of her evolution is how she managed to win by herself two rounds against Stoica and Jesse Glenn, two very skilled Brawlers, the latter of which beat her in a past fight.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Her losses to the Gundalian Agents early on occur either due to blatant cheating (against Jesse), or the fact Fabia isn’t even trying to win (against Lena and Zenet).

     Jake Vallory

Jake Vallory

Debuted In: Gundalian Invaders
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jake_vallory.png

A rookie Subterra Brawler and a friend of Dan's who appears in Gundalian Invaders.

His partner Bakugan is Subterra Coredem.

  • Ascended Fanboy: After seeing Dan and Drago in person, he wanted to become a Bakugan Brawler for real, which he eventually does by the time of the first episode.
  • The Big Guy: He is physically the biggest member of Battle Brawler. Fitting that he also American Football's player.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: He is nowhere to be seen during the first arc of Mechtanium Surge, outside of a brief picture cameo, despite still being a member of the Battle Brawlers by the end of Gundalian Invaders. This is made stranger by the fact that both Fabia and Ren return for a few episodes during the middle of the arc, making him the only member of the Battle Brawlers from Gundalian Invaders to not return.
  • Lovable Jock: He plays football when he's not brawling, as shown in "Brawler To Be".
  • Mr. Fanservice: Takes Baron’s place as the tall and muscular guy. Qualifies as a Hunk too thanks to his height.
  • The Nicknamer: Calls Dan "Dan the Man" (occasionally throwing in an extra rhyme)or Aniki in Japanese version and Marucho "Little Maruch".
  • Nightmare Face: All of his expression when being brainwashed by Kazarina really creepy and unsettling.
  • The One Guy: Out of the four Subterra brawlers to ever officially join the Battle Brawlers, Jake is the only male.
  • Put on a Bus: He never appears again after the events of Gundalian Invaders, outside of a brief picture cameo during the first arc of Mechtanium Surge.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: As a Dumb Muscle Ascended Fanboy who is Younger Than He Looks, he's basically a human version of Baron if he used Subterra instead of Haos.
  • Token Human: He's the only brawler to officially join the Battle Brawlers after Season 1 who isn't an alien.
  • Younger Than He Looks: Given his large size and muscular build and the fact that he has Manly Facial Hair in the form of sideburns, you'd be forgiven for thinking he's the oldest member of the Battle Brawlers. He's actually only fifteen years old, the same age as Marucho, making him one of the youngest members of the Battle Brawlers.

     Ren Krawler

Ren Krawler

Debuted In: New Vestroia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ren_gi.png
Ren's Human Form
Click here to see Ren's True Form

A Darkus Brawler and spy from Gundalia who first appears in Gundalian Invaders.

His partner Bakugan is Darkus Linehalt.

  • Becoming the Mask: Ren was sent by the Gundalians to get the Battle Brawlers to join them in the guise that they were the innocent party in their war. However, after experiencing their friendship and eventually realizing that the emperor he served didn't care about him or his people, he did a Heel–Face Turn and joined the Brawlers in the battle against his own kind so he can overthrow Barodius and restore honour to the Gundalians and save his world from tyranny.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He makes his first appearance at the very end of New Vestroia before going on to be one of the main characters of Gundalian Invaders.
  • Expy: Basically Domon from Inazuma Eleven, to the point that even their designs are similar.
    • He can also be seen as one for Marik Ishtar from Yu-Gi-Oh!. Ren's storyline is very similar to Marik's: forced to live underground, protected by a close brother figure (Odion for Marik, Linehalt for Ren), became a villain in the pursuit of wanting to live free, posed as a friend to the heroes for a while, and later pulling a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He later joins the brawlers in the battle against his own kind and free his people from the emperor's cruel regime and bring peace to both Neathia and Gundalia.
  • Master Actor: He was so good at convincing the Brawlers that Gundalia was the peaceful planet and Neathia were the invaders that even Shun couldn’t see through him.
  • Number Two: To Nurzak. As Ren is the new commander of the Gundalian Forces while Nurzak is Gundalia's first prime minister.
  • Last Episode, New Character: The final episode of New Vestroia ends with him making his first appearance.
  • Pretty Boy: He's not very feminine-looking, but he's still kinda pretty.
  • Redemption Earns Life: Like Nurzak and the Gundalian Agents (except Sid), he survives.

Gundalian Turncoats

     Nurzak & Subterra Sabator

Nurzak

Debuted In: Gundalian Invaders
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nurzak_gi_8.png

A Subterra Brawler and former member of the Twelve Orders who first appears in Gundalian Invaders.

His partner Bakugan is Subterra Sabator.

  • Benevolent Boss: In contrast with the other member of Twelve Orders, Nurzak always valued anyone by their virtues and never had someone punished for failing.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Nurzak has a lot of moments showing what he can't stand and lines he won't cross:
    • Nurzak gets disgusted by Barodius always speaking ill of his late father and not caring about him at all.
    • Nurzak is always disgusted by Barodius' Bad Boss tendencies and the way he and the other Twelve Orders treat Ren and his teammates and other Gundalians.
    • Nurzak is horrified that if Barodius got his greedy hands on the Sacred Orb and used its power for his own, he would not only destroy Neathia, but other Worlds as well.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Nurzak turns against Barodius after finding out the truth about the Sacred Orb and also learns that Barodius will lead their people to ruin. However, Nurzak wasn't evil at all as he was only after knowledge and he never liked Barodius' rule over Gundalia and he hated him for using the Gundalians for his own selfish gain.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Nurzak once had a daughter named Floria who was killed in battle due to his recklessness. He reveals this to Fabia via an I Have This Friend story, later seeing her in a vision during a near-death experience.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Nurzak calls out Barodius for his tyranny and states that his intentions and selfishness would bring ruin to their people and entire world.
  • Redemption Earns Life: His switching sides allow him to not only be the only survivor of the 6 major Twelve Order members, but also become the leader of the Gundalians resulting democratic government.
  • Token Good Teammate: Nurzak is the only member of the Twelve Orders who isn't evil, just a wise man who is after knowledge and has a code of honor who wants to stop the war between the Neathians and Gundalians. Plus Nurzak cares about his people and treats his subordinates with respect, unlike Barodius and the rest of the Twelve Orders.

  • Worthy Opponent: Sid longs to take down Dan and Drago, which starts with him refusing to take Drago away even with a 500 point advantage win due to the unfair situation Dan was in (Ren was Throwing the Fight, leaving Dan in a two on one fight). He even escapes from the brainwashing machine of his own accord to face them again.

Code Eve

    Code Eve

The Mother Light of all Bakugan, and the progenitor of the original Dragonoid and Dharaknoid.

  • Good Is Not Nice: She seals Barodius and Dharak away in another dimension inside a prison made of their own evil. It sadly didn’t last, however.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: She gave Drago way more power than he could handle at the time, causing him and Dan (and by extension the rest of the Brawlers) much grief in the form of infighting with each other and conflict with Mag Mel and Razenoid via psychic links in Season 4.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: She was kept inside the Sacred Orb for most of Season 3, and her blessings are the motive for Barodius’ invasion of Neathia.
  • Top God: She’s essentially this, as she created the two beings who respectively went on to create Vestroia, Neathia, and Gundalia.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In her defense, she had no way of anticipating that Barodius would use his own prison as a way to make himself and Dharak more powerful, turning them into Mag Mel and Razenoid.

Paige's Human Form

A Subterra Brawler and soldier from Gundalia who appears in the first arc of Mechtanium Surge.

Her partner Bakugan is Subterra Boulderon.

Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga (JP), Annick Obanaswin (EN)

  • Dub Name Change: Her name in Japanese version is Pamela Schwartz.
  • The Faceless: Downplayed. She's the only Gundalian, and the only alien character in general, whose true form is never shown.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Played with, though Boulderon is a Subterra Bakugan he mainly uses abilities to do with Magnetism.
  • Tomboy: Compared to the previous female Brawlers, she barely has any femininity. Mitsuki Saiga also give her a more masculine voice than even the English dub (where her gruff voice easily stands out) pushing her outright into Lady Looks Like a Dude.
  • Put on a Bus: She's never seen again after Mag Mel's defeat.

His partner Bakugan is Haos Reptak.

  • Ambiguous Situation: While he does help out in the final battle and is seen hanging out with them in the epilogue, it is never made clear as to whether or not Gunz is now an official member of the Battle Brawlers or if he has simply become their friend and ally.
  • Badass in Distress : Was kidnapped by Coredegon, then assumes his appearance and name his human form as Wiseman (although it was due to a misunderstanding with the Brawlers).
  • Breaking Old Trends : Compare to the other Jerkass, traitorous and possibly Hidden Evil brawlers, who are Darkus Brawlers, Gunz is the first and the only one who is a Haos Brawler.
  • Dub Name Change : Gunz Lizard in Japanese.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: He joins the brawlers just in time for the final battle against Mechtavius Destroyer.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is a massive jerk, but also genuinely cares about his partner, Reptak, as is shown when he seemingly dissapears.
  • Light Is Not Good : He is a Haos Brawler and his personality is just not as bright as his element. Taken to its' logical conclusion with the (short lived) Face–Heel Turn moment late in Mechtanium Surge.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Realizes this when Reptak tries to reconcile with him.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil : Takes up the Nonets as Wiseman II after Dan and the team mark him as the prime suspect behind the rampage of Mechtavius Destroyer. He gets better, however.

     Haos Aerogan
