Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- • Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- • Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.
- • Proposing new tropes. See TropeLaunchPad.
- • Making bug reports. See QueryBugs.
- • Asking for new wiki features. See QueryWishlist.

Ask the Tropers:
open A character becomes overprotective over a pregnant character
A (usually male) character becomes paranoid and overprotective when they learn their wife/girlfriend/family member/friend is pregnant, treating them like they're made of glass.
The closest I could find was Overprotective Dad, but do we have something more specific?
open Mod revert on fanfic?
Can I get a mod revert on The Boy Without a Fairy? I had added an alternate link (no pun intended) to the story and revised the description slightly but SneakyHint's edit seems to have overlapped mine, and they added a bunch of ZCEs. I don' want to re-add it myself as that'd be an edit war.
EDIT: Nevermind, the ZC Es are gone now.
Edited by lalalei2001open Recap pages
When reading Recap pages, I sometimes see examples referring/alluding to future episodes (often under tropes like Foreshadowing). Is this considered okay? I do not remember the consensus on this.
openNo Title
Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game S To T apparently seems to be getting too long as a page. Might I request that someone split it into at least two pages?
Edited by nombretomadoopenDouble Standard needs an edit
There's misuse of Draco in Leather Pants (claiming it's always sexual) and "then/than" issues on Double Standard, but I can't edit it.
openCurb-Stomp Battles of Death Battle Web Original
It's come to recent attention that the Curb-Stomp Battle page for DEATH BATTLE! has a lot of issues. The page lists a lot of fights as examples, to the point that literally every episode from season six is listed. However, the entries seem to only focus on the post-fight analysis that determined the winner and not how the actual fight played out. The fight itself could be portrayed as pretty even, only for the analysis to point out the discrepancy between the two fighters.
Even if the hosts explain the fight was actually pretty close, those matches will still be listed because the victor had the advantage, which seems like misuse. I tried to clean up entries that were listed as "downplayed", but they were simply added back with slight alterations that the hosts were just explaining the loser's strengths. I think the page should focus on the fights themselves, and not rely solely on the post-fight wrap-up. At the very least, the page needs a clean-up.
Edited by chasemaddiganopenYMMV.FireEmblemThreeHouses Videogame
Edelgard was approved as a Magnificent Bitch on the cleanup thread and since her posting received many unapproved edits. I made a post on my edit reverting but it seems the original entry may have had some errors in it. I'll say again here, if anything does need to be changed please bring it to the thread I've linked in this post. I'm putting this here to dissuade further changes without proper procedure being followed.
openObject show index Web Original
Am I allowed to make an object show index? And if so, should I put it as a main page (Object Shows) or make it a useful notes page? I might add tropes that would usually be in these shows.
Edited by RabbitTopeBallopenHeadscratchers tropes
Why does this page...exist? Obviously we can't have headscratchers for trope pages, but that's not even what this is- it's a page telling people not to put headscratchers there. Wouldn't it be better off just cut or something, or should we turn it into an actual policy page for this sort of thing and redirect it, or something? It just seems really...pointless.
It'll probably be more useful as an actual Headscratchers policy page considering the namespace has been brought up a lot recently, but currently...
Edited by WarJay77openDeleting notices?
G-Editor has gone across pretty much every Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds page and deleted the top notice about discussing the cleanup thread first. Every edit reason just says "Unnecessary." This isn't okay, right?
openCookiegirl0812
I have some concerns about their recent TLP activity, specifically that they're not really contributing more than they are just posting snarky or unhelpful comments, or rogue discarding things, as I mentioned on Crash Rescue.
Some of their recent posts have been:
- To remind me that I haven't launched my trope yet, something I'd already acknowledged.
- Assuming that everyone has seen Shrek.
- A variety of other unhelpful, one-line comments.
- Whatever this means.
They're pretty new to the TLP so they've not really caused many issues yet, but their general attitude and their earlier rogue-discarding makes me a little wary. They just aren't contributing- just commenting unconstructively and then discarding things that are still under discussion. They've also made zero edits on the site, and no forum posts...
Edit: So they've seen this ATT and PM'd me a promise to try and do better; hopefully, this is all we'll need.
Edited by WarJay77openShould CompletelyMissingThePoint have a clean-up effort?
I asked this on the renamed tropes clean-up project but that thread isn't particularly popular or noticeable.
Completely Missing The Point is now Comically Missing the Point and Dramatically Missing the Point. This past February, there were 1207 wicks to the redirect. I cleaned up a few wicks but now there's 1211 wicks (related to page). Should we have a separate, dedicated clean-up effort to removing these wicks? And would anyone be interested in cleaning these wicks?
openDefinition of Draco in Leather Pants, Headscratchers?
1.) I always thought Draco in Leather Pants just mean "villain acting more like a hero in fanfiction", but some people seem to believe it always happens because the writer finds the character hot (I know that can be a reason, but is it the only one?).
2.) Some people on Headscratchers say, "More of a question than a headscratcher", but I thought Headscratchers literally were questions.
openArthur and "Sociopaths"
I've come across a rather frustrating series of edits over on one of Arthur's character page following a rather glaring misuse of The Sociopath. The page is choked with Word Cruft calling the four-year-old character D.W. a "borderline sociopath" for what appears to be child-friendly mischief.
Now, I'm not sure if someone has an agenda or what, but there's an inherent absurdity to me applying that term anywhere near an edutainment show. I've already struck both misuses of The Sociopath; I'm just wondering how to tackle the rest of the scrub.
openFanFic/KyodainaSentaiManukeranger
So while I was indexing a different fic in Fanfics of the 2010s, I checked out Kyodaina Sentai Manukeranger because the work it was a fanfic of wasn't listed, and hoo boy...
- The namespace is miscapitalized
- There is no work summary, only "Needs Wiki Magic Love."
- What the fanfic is based off of isn't listed either
- The work link goes to some deviant art page for the fanfic and not the actual first chapter of the fic itself
- ZCEs out the wazoo
- A YMMV page with misused Ho Yay and a random out of place piece of trivia about the fanfic
Aaaaannnddd it was last edited two years ago. Help.
openCustom title confusion Western Animation
The page for the 2015 Transformers series Robots in Disguise is currently at WesternAnimation.Transformers Robots In Disguise 2015, presumably to avoid collision with the 2001 series that has the same title, but its custom title hides the "2015", which seems odd when WesternAnimation.Transformers Robots In Disguise exists and just redirects to the 2015 page.
Shouldn't the custom title be "Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015)", like every other disambiguated page I've seen?
openRequest for another moderator restoration
Lord Druid (link to post history: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/el.php?findfor=LordDruid ) just uncommented every single zero-context example on Death Note – Shinigami. Is there a moderator that can restore it to the earlier version? It'll a long, long time to restore it manually.
There appears to be an edit war on this page.
Napoleon_Blownapart added this to the page:
Note that, biologically speaking, it's more likely to be the inverse in real life. After all, if you have an electrical device that's not quite a plug but also not quite a socket, then it's not likely to be much use as either, now is it?
Perils removed it. Napoleon_Blownapart added it back with this reason:
I asked Perils what issue they took with this paragraph, but it's been several days and they have yet to respond.
Just thought I might need to bring this to someone's attention...
