Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

@Kazuya Prota Thanks for the compliment man! I really appreciate it ^_^

Anyways, like I said, I may or may not propose Lady Mayuka... But I'm not sure if she's heinous enough.

Also, yes to all the candidates that I missed.

You might care about heinousness. But in my case, the villains from series that I get all have redeeming traits.

@Kazuya Prota Pretty much. Anyways, I think you're also got a great series too and a popular one at that... I'm talking about SAO btw. But yeah, think I'm grateful with what I have for now and I have a lot of guys to cover for my to-do list.

The only popular things that I covered was the likes of Darling in the Franxx, Konosuba (Which I will get into soon), Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, We Happy Few or the infamous Catwoman so yeah :/ Would love to cover more popular series in later future. Even the likes of Slime or Gridman (The two shows I will cover in the future) are overshadowed with the likes of Goblin Slayer haha...

My turn.

What is the work?

Couple years ago, the Blazblue franchise was given an anime adaptation covering Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift... A very truncated version of them actually. It's called BlazBlue: Alter Memory In any case, the basic premise is the same as the parent work. S-Class criminal Ragna the Bloodedge is going to Hierarchical Cities owned by the NOL to destroy their Cauldrons. However, the universe is currently plagued by time loops until the right action happens, Ragna as the lynchpin.

When his mysterious advisor, Rachel Alucard, points him to the city of Kagutsuchi, things are finally put in motion.

Who is the candidate? What has he/she done?

Who else but Hazama, better known as Yuuki Terumi? Like in canon, Hazama starts off as a Intelligent head within the NOL, keeping a special eye on Noel Vermilion. He is also an Observer (someone with Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory) like Rachel. The two even share cryptic chats about the condition of their universe. At the start, Hazama/Terumi is, well, observing Ragna to see what happens in Kagutsuchi's Cauldron. The pivotal battle against Robot Girl Nu occurs there, and it seems like the loop is going to repeat yet again, but Noel's intervention finally seemingly puts an end to them.

The fun then begins. Hazama arrives and compels Noel to Observe him. This act brings out the spirit of Yuui Terumi in full force as a sort of resurrection. Before Terumi can do anything else, Rachel teleports them away. We then learn Terumi was responsible for burning down the church the siblings Ragna, Jin, and Saya lived at (including murdering their caretaker), possessing Jin and having him cut off the young Ragna's arm. The next phase begins when Tsubaki Yayoi (close friend of Jin and Noel) is summoned to Hazama's office, and he orders the assassination of Jin and Noel.

Straying to the background to prepare for his grander machinations, Hazama observes the fight Tsubaki and Noel later in the show. He spends the whole time preying on Tsubaki's jealously and self-esteem, pushing and manipulating her to kill her best friend despite her weapon (the Zero-Type Izayoi) threatening to blind her.

Hazama later explains the events that have happened thus far to Izanami, Imperator of the NOL, explaining how many NOL soldiers had to be sacrificed for the smelting of the Monolith, something that should ensure their victory. This implies he killed an entire branch of the NOL, a fact confirmed when Noel and Makoto (another classmate of hers) arrive at an empty branch, and the former reveals that there was no retreat order.

Unfortunately for them, Hazama happens to be there, and they're in the way. The two girls fight Hazama/Terumi, but he's toying with them. When Makoto lands a lucky blow, Terumi stops screwing around and beats the ever-loving stuffing out of Makoto. Terumi tops this by injecting knowledge of timelines where Noel didn't exist, telling her it's her fault Jin and Tsubaki turned out the way did, driving her mental state over the edge. Terumi punctuates the Mind Rape by dropping the bloodied Makoto down a chasm. Terumi's goading causes Noel to hate the world more and more until the Monolith consumes her to begin the smelting.

The penultimate episode begins with Terumi profusely creaming Ragna and explaining that the Black Beast (a figure for background lore) was just a massive failure created by him. He talks about his plan to create a the Kusanagi, a god-slaying entity, for his own designs. Terumi calls upon the Kusanagi in the name of Susano'o. The Monolith opens and Mu-12 (a transformed Noel) descends to meet Terumi and Ragna. The latter attempts to change Mu's mind, but he is unsuccessful. Mu follows Terumi's orders to go to the Boundary and destroy Amaterasu (which would catastrophic effects for the universe). The battle continues until Lambda, another Robot Girl Ragna befriended, takes the blow for him, charges up Ragna's Azura Grimorie, and help him overpower Terumi.

While Ragna goes to stop Mu, this event is deemed such an impossibility it distracts the omniscient supercomputer, Takamagahara, keeping time loops sustained. Terumi, now a soul again, infiltrates in the nanosecond in that they were distracted and has a virus deployed to keep them subdued. Noel is saved, but the bad guys reveal themselves, leaving the anime ends with And the Adventure Continues...

Freudian Excuse?

Short answer: It's Terumi.

Long answer: He has none.

Redeeming or mitigating factors?

Again, Terumi. One of the most sadistic, selfish, murderous, manipulative, and heartless monsters in video gaming. And that's in spite of a load of his canon crimes removed thanks to the abbreviated nature of this "adaptation."

Heinousness?

Terumi is the Big Bad, so he sets it. The other villains Relius and Izanami don't do anything, and that's because the anime stops after Continuum Shift. He crosses the baseline well over with dismembering a child, possessing a child to force said dismemberment, manipulating two best friends to kill each other, killing a whole military branch of officers, torturing someone in front of their best friend, mind-raping a person into a tool for destruction, and indirectly causing apocalyptic destruction with his Black Beast (and indeed is prepared to try again with his Kusanagi). All because he's a sadist.

Also, it should be noted Alter Memory is such a watered-down version of the two games it may as well be its own thing. You can't even call it an alternate timeline (which is very much a thing in the franchise) because the people with Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory don't act like it is. Alter Memory is contained in its own universe. Therefore, we're in fact talking about a different version of Hazama/Terumi.

Final verdict?

Keep. And now I can finally forget this thing existed.

[tup] Terumi. Bizzare coincidence as I was thinking about the Blazeblue franchise not ten minutes ago...something about a RWBY crossover I heard about.

Yes to Terumi...

Speaking of which, I actually wanted to look on Xblaze Code Embryo but turned it down because it was revealed that it took on the same place as Blazeblue and thus, the villains in there need to compete with the current three keepers of the franchise. That and I saw some villains had a lot of mitigating factors that bugging me

As long the stories are sufficiently separated, I don't see many issues. I mean, that's how P5 Kamoshida managed to enter in a franchise with multiple attempts to cause the apocalypse.

@Beast: Oh do you mean BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. No one counts there. Since all the villains from the 4 main series' aren't in the game, there's no candidates (I.e. There isn't any Relius, Terumi (albeit Hazama on his own is in it but he doesn't do anything) Adachi, Cinder or Hilda ) while the main antangnist is both a WIE as well as having some agency issues.
