Old Magnificent Bastard thread

Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard proposal thread! This is the thread where new Magnificent Bastard examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential mitigating features will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the MB subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite MB" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from other parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for MB equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, their goals and methodology, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some characters, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

How are they Magnificent?

This is the point where you highlight the character's brilliance. How to they convey their intelligence and charm to the audience? What makes them stand out among the crowd? What are their goals and how do they go about accomplishing them? This part welcomes a lot of creative thinking — not everyone has to be a Machiavellian Diabolical Mastermind to be worth considering here! This is also the time to showcase how the character can think on their feet if it's necessary.

How are they a Bastard? How are they not too bad?

What kinds of moral lines is this character willing to cross for the sake of their goal? Are they willing to let innocents die? Start wars? Commit crimes? The character has to show some kind of unscrupulousness in order to count as a "Bastard". Notably, this character does not necessarily have to be the villain, and an Anti-Hero can cross the line if they're immoral enough, but they have to be immoral somehow.

This is also the section where you then state your case for why they're not too bad. Perhaps their good intentions help mitigate their crimes. Perhaps others are shown to be much worse than them. Perhaps they're prone to Pet the Dog moments or are even fighting on behalf of loved ones. Whatever the case, there are certain lines that an MB can't cross, but as long as their villainy is reasonable for their goal, they can be considered.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

Yes to Tombstone.

So question I know the old thread was okay with discussing fanworks early but I don't know if this on is. I have a fanfilm version of the Kingpin but it was only released 2 days ago. Do you guys mind if I discuss him early?

[up] I'd be fine with it. [tup] Amran and Zelikman, Tombstone, and Kalinda. Abstain on Proserpina, a bit too busy to look through the walkthroughs.

What's the work?

This Place Was Home is a Star Wars fancomic by ND Stevenson. Set shortly after the events of The Book of Boba Fett, the comic features Boba recalling his childhood on Kaminoa to Fennec Shand while she gets drunk off her ass and tries to get him to smoke weed.

For the most part, it's a cute Slice of Life comic dealing with Jango and his shapeshifting partner from Attack of the Clones, Zam Wessel, becoming closer together, while Zam gradually becomes a surrogate mother to a young, innocently naive Boba. Of course, there's the constantly hanging shadow of Jango eventually murdering Zam to tie up loose ends after their failed mission to assassinate Padme. Sure enough, the flashbacks in the final chapter catch up to the events of Episode 2 when a tearful Jango returns to Kaminoa without Zam and refuses to tell Boba what happened.

And then the epilogue happens. While feeding his rancor, Boba suddenly notices Fennec has a robot hand. Now, she may be part robot now, but she never got her hand replaced. And so the imposter reveals herself.

Who are Jango Fett and Zam Wesell?

Zam, still alive years after the Empire has fallen, reveals to Boba that she and Jango had a contingency in place should she ever get captured. When Zam was cornered by Obi-Wan and had her arm chopped off, Jango shot her with a special poison designed to slow her heart rate and breathing down. Her shapeshifter biology would do the rest, sending herself into a death-like state such that not even a Jedi could tell she was alive.

Zam claims that she and Jango agreed she would stay away from Kaminoa if they ever needed to pull this gambit, so that their many enemies wouldn't be able to track them to Boba. They talk and get emotions out, but as Zam begins to leave, she drops this ominous line.

Zam: Do you ever wonder what it would have been like if things had turned out... different? Your dad survives. We don't get separated. You get to grow up a normal kid. Well, normal-ish.
Boba: Of course I've thought about it. But the past is the past.
Zam: ...You know your dad would've done anything to protect you, right? Even something pretty fucked up.

Cut to one last flashback. In the middle of Attack of the Clones, the Slave 1 flies towards Geonosis, Obi-Wan in hot pursuit. Leaving behind Kaminoa... and Jango, who goes inside to his son and Zam getting outfitted for a robot arm. Turns out, he valued his family too much to honor his and Zam's promise. He went back to retrieve her after faking her death, and when Obi-Wan inevitably followed them to Kaminoa? He found two clones. One adult, wearing Jango's armor. One child, with the genetic markings that cause advanced aging removed. Each respectively implanted with modified memories from Jango and Boba.

Jango: He took the bait. He's following the decoy clones to Geonosis. The Kaminoans assure me that the memory implantation process was a success. The decoys will think they're us. In any way detectable, they will be.
Zam: Sorry, Jango. I know you didn't want to have to use them. I really tried to lose those Jedi.
Jango: You did everything I asked you to. No. This is on me. I sold my soul a long time ago when I let them make an army out of me. But I got Boba out of it, and that's all that matters. I'll do whatever it takes to ensure I get to watch him grow up. They can keep the ship. The armor. The name. I'm getting us all out of here alive. They'll never find us.

Zam visited the decoy Boba, our Boba, many times over the years in secret, feeling guilty for her role in what happened to him. But Boba, remaining oblivious to the truth, is content with his life, and proud of his many accomplishments. After their talk, Zam leaves satisfied. Boba is left with closure. And Fennec finally gets him to smoke some weed.

Are they magnificent?

The comic is primarily a Slice of Life, so the grand operations and badassness you usually expect from Star Wars bounty hunters don't have much focus; it's mostly cute fluff, bonding as a family, and self-deprecation at how much their lives/jobs suck.

But then they're able to fake their deaths perfectly. It's an ingenious series of moves that fool even Obi-Wan, leaving no one the wiser for decades and giving them the perfect way out and into a normal life.

Are they bastards?

Again, it's primarily a Slice of Life, so their bounty hunter lifestyles aren't given much focus. But they are still bounty hunters; Zam got herself "killed" on the job to murder Padme, even making a crack afterwards about having to use Jango's "fucking poison worms."

All in all, a fun duo from a short comic a very much recommend for a quick read, it's quite cute [lol]

[tup] to Jango Fett and Zam Wesell

Okay while I wait for more people to vote on Proserpina (here's the link to the video walkthroughs regarding her), I’ve got another candidate from a video game I just finished. I’m not entirely sure about her but I think she’s at least worth an EP. The game is Dead Space (Remake) so let’s talk about it.

What’s The Work?

Dead Space remake is a remake of the first Dead Space game. Like the original the remake follows engineer Isaac Clarke as he and a few others go to the Ishimura in search of his wife and other survivor where they discover that the ship is overrun by Necromorphs, aka space zombies. That said the remake made some altercations to the original including one of its villains, Kendra Daniels.

Who Is She? What Has She Done?

Kendra Daniels is a crew member whose sent along with Isaac, Hammond and Chen to the Ishimura to search for survivors. However Kendra actually works for an organization called EarthGov to retrieve the Red Marker (the thing driving people insane and turning them into Necromorphs) after the Marker goes out of control on Aegis VII and the Ishimura.

Upon arriving the Ishimura and discovering the horrors caused by the Red Marker after the Necromorphs kill Chen and turn him into one of them, Kendra would help guide Isaac throughout the Ishimura having him retrieve the Red Marker for her while also attempting to cause Isaac to distrust Hammond to avoid suspicion from her and wait for the Valor to help her on her mission, though the Valor ends up crashing into the Ishimura.

Hammond would get killed in the Valor where Isaac and Kendra would encounter Terrence Kyne, one of the survivors of the Ishimura, who would help Isaac and Kendra transport the Red Marker to an executive shuttle. However Kendra would kill Kyne since he wanted to bring to Aegis VII and was under the Marker’s influence, where she then decides to take the Marker and hide it far away so no one, not even EarthGov, can be affected by the Marker’s horrific influence, while leaving Isaac on the Ishimura since she believes he can find another way out of the Ishimura.

However Isaac and “Nichole” would recall the shuttle to the Ishimura for Isaac to use causing Kendra to use an escape pod which lands in the Aegis VII the same planning Isaac is going to. Meeting Isaac at Aegis VII, Kendra dismantle the Marker’s illusions revealing that “Nichole” whose actually Elizabeth Cross who Kendra kills since the latter far too gone, while showing to Isaac that the real Nichole actually died on the Ishimura.

The two would then try to leave the planet after Isaac puts the Marker back in Aegis VII the Hive Mind awakens when Kendra steals the Marker back. Kendra would try to help Isaac but the Hive Mind was too powerful and kills Kendra but luckily Isaac is able to kill the Hive Mind and leave Aegis VII.

Is She Intelligent? Is She Charismatic?

Like the original Kendra is a Manipulative Bitch whose able to conceal her true motives of retrieving the Marker for EarthGov right until she reveals her true intentions while trying to get Isaac to distrust Hammond to avoid suspicions and knows the Ishimura to Isaac to his destinations and even finds a way to deal with obstacles such as escaping in a pod landing her to Aegis VII where she’ll encounter Isaac and retrieve the Marker again since he’ll be traveling there with the Marker in tow.

However this Kendra is given Adaptational Heroism while her detestable personalty is outright removed and tries taking the Marker to hide where no one will be affected by its influence having suffered from its influence first hand (it isn’t enough to make her insane, and still tries retaining her sanity, while recognizing how dangerous the Marker really) making her a much more sympathetic and likable character compared to her original counterpart.

Even if she removed the Marker which unleashes the Hive Mind, it’s not like anyone had knowledge about this before hand, (Kyne said that they need to return the Marker to Aegis VII to stop the outbreak, but he’s been too affected under this influence of the Marker leading to Kendra killing him and dismissing his reasoning) and spends her last moments trying to cooperate with Isaac before getting killed by the Hive Mind (its one human woman vs a giant monster) and even her death is a simple getting crushed by the monster vs the Cruel and Unusual Death she suffered in the original so I think she passes here.

What’s The Competition Like?

Kendra is the most cunning and manipulative character in the remake game with other characters being too evil (Mad Scientist Dr. Mercer), not being evil enough (Isaac Clarke and Hammond), or affected by the Marker too much (Kendra does get affected by the Marker when she hallucinates seeing her diseased brother but puts herself together upon realizing it’s just an illusion which explains her reasoning and her own will-power), so yeah she clears the competition here

Is She a Bitch? Is She Too Much of a Bitch?

Well Kendra still is The Mole within Isaac’s group whose willing to cause mistrust within her group, manipulates people into helping in her goals, kills people once they outlived their usefulness (Kyne and Cross are innocent people who are simply heavily affected by the Marker) and leave Isaac in the Ishimura fill with Necromorphs after he does what she wants, so she is a bitch.

That said she has Adaptational Heroism, never commits crimes that are too deplorable, is a nicer person here, is a Well-Intentioned Extremist who genuinely believes that by keeping Marker away from humanity will prevent people from suffering from its influence, and shows respect for Isaac explaining her reasoning for leaving Isaac stranded on the Ishimura is because she believes he can find another way to escape the ship, snaps Isaac out of his delusions, and spends her last moments trying to cooperate with Isaac in surviving the Hive Mind so yeah I don’t think she’s too much of a bitch.

Final Verdict?

I will leave it to you guys to decide

Also here's a link to Kendra's scenes for those who want to look at them before voting.

Yes to Jango Fett, Zam Wesell, and Kendra Daniels.

What is the Work?

Gone in 60 Seconds specifically the 2000 remake of the 1974 film. The film follows Randall "Memphis" Raines, played by Nic Cage, a famous car thief pulled out of retirement to help save his kid brother.

Who is Memphis Raines?

A famous car thief who "for the cars", Memphis simply left town after his mother asked him in order to prevent his brother from following in his footsteps and went legit. However, when his brother fails to deliver 50 cars to Raymond Calitri, Memphis is forced out of retirement to steal them in 72 hours or Calitri kills his brother. Memphis puts a crew together consisting of his ex criminal friends and his brothers crew, before going on to mastermind a heist of the 50 cars in one night.

Having his crew find the cars in verious ways from hacking to just getting a list from the DMV, Memphis himselves learns about a warehouse full of the types of cars he needs by pretending to be a rich client. Staking out the cars, Memphis gets a gang trying to kill him arrested by distracting them while his brother hooks the car up to a semi. Later on the night the plan goes off mostly without a hitch until they learn a detective is servaining three of the cars, leading to Memphis deciding that they are going to still three cars from his brothers heist from the police impound, having one of his guys destravt the guards while they steal them without being seen.

Saving "Eleanor", a car he tried to still before, for last, Memphis leads the police on a mad chase through town. Using his expert driving skills and quick thinking to stay one step ahead, Memphis loses them and gets the last car to Calitri, only to be betrayed because Calitri unsurprisingly doesn't appreciate Memphis pulling a gun him to save his brother earlier. Memphis is saved from being killed by his brother and old friend before engaging Calitri in a fight and killing killing him to save a detective who has been following Memphis all movie. When the cop lets him go, Memphis tells him where the cars are I'm gratitude and goes back into retirement, even getting a new Eleanor.

Is he charming? Smart?

Yep. He is very charismatic and loves up to his representation. He is able to plan out a near perfect heist of 50 cars in one night, and shows he is good at quick thinking like planing out the heist of the police impound. Overall he passes this.

Bastard? Too much?

This is the rub he starts the film retired and only gets back in to save his brother, even going back into retirement afterwards. However, I feel like his reputation is such a big part of the film that is brought up so often, along with the fact that we still see him steal 50 cars and purposely reck multiple police cars in his chase with them, is enough for him to pass the bastard part.

Conclusion?

Leaning yes but what do you think?

Alright, back from my hiatus on the threads. Been watching some Supernatural and thought I'd try my first EP from there. Character in question is Belphegor from Season 15's "Ghostpocalypse" three-parter arc.

What is the work?

One of the longest running modern TV shows to date. Supernatural was CW's flagship show featuring the Hunter brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, along with their team of allies, as they battle against all of the supernatural and mystical threats that torment humanity.

In Season 15, Chuck Shurley a.k.a. God (the Big G), has been outed as a Jerkass God who has been treating reality as his story and personal entertainment. With the boys refusing to give Chuck his perfect ending, Chuck decides its time to end the story.

Chuck kills Jack (Lucifer's biological son and the Winchesters' surrogate son) after Dean refuses to. God then restarts the apocalypse by opening every single door to Hell, releasing all of the damned souls that had been trapped there. The souls all enter into the various corpses in the graveyard, making them rise as zombies to attack the heroes.

So where Belphegor comes in...

Who is Belphegor and what has he done?

Belphegor is a demon who resided in Hell, where according to him he worked as one of Hell's torturers. Belphegor is a fairly low-ranking demon in the greater scheme of things, but is quite ambitious and has been biding his time looking for an opportunity to amass more power. He finally gets his chance when all the doors of Hell open and the souls escape.

The Winchesters and Castiel escape from the hordes of zombies into a crypt. Belphegor then possesses Jack's corpse as the only spare body he could find. Castiel is furious at a demon desecrating Jack's corpse and threatens to kill Belphegor. But Belphegor is able to bargain for his life by offering to fix their zombie problem, so the brothers agree to his terms. Belphegor keeps his word and performs a spell/ritual that smites the entire zombie hoard, having blasted the souls out of the corpses.

While they are safe for now, their work is far from over. Belphegor reveals that all 2-3 billion souls have escaped from Hell and now free to start killing innocents. To keep the ghosts confined to the surrounding town, Belphegor suggests quarantining the area with a barrier spell. The ritual ingredients include: a bag of salt and a human heart... to which Belphegor steals from a man freshly murdered by a ghost. The ghost in question attacks, to which Belphegor tries to talk her down before Dean fends it off, while Belphegor casts the barrier spell.

Belphegor also reveals in private to Dean that he is familiar with Dean's time trapped in Hell as a torturer, to which Belphegor acts like an ecstatic fanboy who admired Dean's work. Belphegor also reveals he himself worked as a torturer, so he's not very popular among Hell's ghosts. When asked by Dean why he's helping them, Belphegor states he is a loyal soldier who likes the status quo.

Belphegor's barrier is a success and the ghosts are unable to cross, so the ghosts try to attack the heroes to make them disperse the barrier. Belphegor assists the heroes in fending off the ghosts, but their sheer numbers prove troublesome. In addition, Belphegor's barrier is temporary and he can't re-raise it once it goes.

Needing a more permanent solution, Belphegor suggests they return to Hell to fetch Lilith's Crook, an artifact able to pull souls back. The plan was for Belphegor to draw all the souls back into Hell before the rift to Hell is resealed. A suspicious Castiel accompanies Belphegor as a bodyguard, continuing to remain cold towards him for looking like Jack. The real reason Belphegor brought Castiel along is to use the angel's power to unlock the box where it was kept.

However a rival demon named Ardat, shows up and makes a move on Belphegor's life, stating this was Belphegor's attempt at seizing Hell's throne. While Castiel fends Ardat off, Belphegor manages to kill his rival. Castiel then confronts Belphegor and demands to know the truth. Belphegor states he had no desire to rule Hell, before blasting Castiel aside, he reveals his even more ambitious goal: drawing the billions of souls into himself and becoming the new God.

Belphegor blows the horn and begins absorbing the souls, with Castiel pushed back by the strong winds. But before Belphegor can absorb everything, Castiel forces his way through and beats Belphegor down. Belphegor tries to claim he is Jack to get Castiel to stop, but Castiel has none of it and smites Belphegor.

Belphegor's premature death prevents all the ghosts from being drawn back, with Dean chastising Castiel for recklessly killing Belphegor before his work had been done.

How is he Magnificent?

Belphegor is a quite low-ranking demon among the cosmic totem pole, but makes up for his lack of strength with ambition and cunning, allowing him to make a big play for power. He is able to secure an allegiance with the heroes, who are forced to keep him around when they realize they need Belphegor. Considering these are the hunters known for slaying every other demon they cross paths with, it's quite impressive Belphegor managed to acquire an insurance policy for himself. He also hides his true goal of absorbing the billions of souls into himself, only revealing the truth when he is seconds away from accomplishing the deed. Castiel remarks that Belphegor played them all and only narrowly manages to stop and kill Belphegor.

Belphegor is always polite, being firmly Faux Affably Evil. He also has a dry Deadpan Snarker wit and provides a lot of the humor for the three episodes he is featured. From what I remember, the fans were quite fond of Belphegor with many actually preferring his personality over that of Jack.

His death isn't super graceful and a little anticlimactic, but nothing undignified either with no screaming or villainous breakdowns. After his failed attempt on fooling Castiel by pretending to be Jack, he remains quiet and accepts his death.

Bastard? Too much?

Belphegor is largely a Nominal Hero who sides with the heroes for personal gain, but for the most keeps his ends of the bargain to deal with the Ghostpocalypse. His grandplan is to use the souls for himself to become a new god, but overall he never does anything too awful esp considering how damn high the heinous standard is.

Belphegor offhandedly mentions that he worked as a torturer in Hell, but this is strictly Offscreen Villainy. Given there have been actual onscreen Torturers shown with the whole upfront in-your-face graphical visuals, a notable example being Alastair the Grand Torturer, Belphegor's offscreen work seems pretty tame in comparison. Plus Belphegor's fanboy squeeing over Dean's tenure as a torturer really makes the topic more lighthearted.

Past that, he also has a Pet the Dog moment in letting Kevin Tran's ghost through the barrier to wander the Earth. He had no direct benefit from this and could have BS-ed up a reason for refusing.

Final verdict?

Emerald kindly reminded me that I forgot to turn these write-ups in when I could've sworn I did them already. So sorry these are so late!

  • MCU junior novels:
    • Thor: The Dark World: Malekith retains his film counterpart's tactical brilliance and adds genuinely well-meaning motives. When Asgard overthrew the Dark Elves, Malekith, having lost his wife and child, placed his people in cryosleep so they could awaken with the Convergence. Training his forces to fight Asgard, Malekith converts his friend Algrim into Kurse and has him thrown in Asgard's dungeon, knowing Kurse will be able to cause a jailbreak. At the same time, Malekith flies directly towards Odin and the Aether, causing planetwide chaos. As Asgard's forces deal with his invasion, Malekith confronts Frigga, fighting her and remaining complimentary of her skill before taking her hostage to make Odin choose between his wife or his people. When Thor manages to save her, Malekith and his forces retreat, content with their temporary victory and intending to return for the Aether to save his people.
    • Black Panther: Aftermath: Charmagne Sund is a Sokovian member of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre who intends to restore her country's good name by killing Helmut Zemo. Beginning by going rogue and stealing Zemo's journal, Sund takes advantage of the tracker inside her to lure Everett Ross and Black Panther to the Berlin Opera, where she fires on them with raw Vibranium fragments obtained from Ultron drones. To further spread the organization thin, she detonates bombs all over the Unter den Linden, allowing her to knock out the power and take Zemo right from his cell so she can kill him on the roof. Serving as a dark reflection to Zemo himself, Sund proves his equal in single-handedly spreading an organization so thin that she almost gets everything she wants.

Speaking of Supernatural, is Metatron still good to stay? The majority of his screentime seems to show him as a cowardly individual. Can someone who used to be a coward still qualify if they get over their initial cowardice? Thanks.

[up] If you have issues with Metatron then bring him in the Magnificent bastard cleanup thread. This thread is about bringing up new characters only.

Speaking of which anymore votes on my candidates Proserpina and Kendra because as of now each candidate has 4 [tup]? (one more would get them approved unless someone decides to downvote) Kendra's EP in already on this page (I also added a video link containing her scenes) while Proserpina's EP on the previous page and I also added video links regarding Proserpina.

[down] I'm aware that I'm have made mistakes in the past, but I'm trying to make up for it now by going over the information before posting them and if circumstances are required post video links. Also you can just vote to abstain if you are still wary of them

G I'm sorry but I'm still saying no to both on principle. I can't trust your proposals and it's not really fair to circumvent that lack of trust by just dumping all of the raw footage of the characters - there's a difference between using links and stuff to support an argument and the links having to effectively become the argument because of past mistakes, and I can't upvote the latter situation.

[up] I have the right to vote no if I don't feel confident in the EP and I do here. I am aware that the videos exist but I shouldn't have to examine the entire character myself to feel confident in a vote, and that's what I would have to do to feel confident in any proposals you have to offer right now. That's not how proposals should ever work - the entire point is that other people should be able to vote confidently based on what you have to say.

I appreciate that you're trying to make up for past stuff, but just going right back to proposals after we have continued finding mistakes in old candidates you have sworn are fine (especially when your strategy of going over stuff with other people to verify them has failed at least once before) has eliminated any trust I could have for a long time, G, and it's not fair to just tell me I should abstain instead of giving an honest vote based on the circumstances.

Can I get some more opinions on Memphis? I only got four and he seems to be getting lost in the EPs above and below him. If this comes off as unintentionally rude let me know and I will strike out this comment.

I'll say yes to Proserpina and Kendra. We'll deal with the situations as they arise.

Yes to Memphis, Jango, and Zam as well.
