Yes they exist IRL and if executed correctly, good for making us feel bad for the characters that have them and hate said abusive parents. However, it can get Narmy.

4/10 can occasionally be used for quite good poetic justice but I find it pretty uninspired by itself.
5/10 I don’t go actively looking for it but it can be fun.

No hard feelings for it, in other words completely neutral on it.

4/10 why it can be done well, it has some sexist undertones (especially if male characters can use it without any problems).
"I guess I just don't want you to feel like you're nothing. I don't want anybody to feel like that."8/10. It’s always pretty interesting.

Mostly neutral on the trope, but it'll be more interesting to see more dragons with different moralities.

Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."1/10 because the effort required to keep it around...sheesh.
5/10. Only a real problem when the character is said to be ugly in the original work, since it's missing the point.

Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."7/10, always fun to see the characters in the future, but writers often fall into the pitfall of abusing it to push the plot forward or cheating with offscreen character growth/arc.
9/10, having all or most characters be somehow connected to each other is a great way to prevent the story from revolving around just one or two characters.
