Removing black borders around images on character sheets

The Fantastic Beasts image on Harry Potter – Albus Dumbledore is a crop of a poster which is too much of a close-up on his face. It was originally this◊ and later changed to this;◊ which one is better?

I prefer the first one.

I used a different Dumbledore image.

All the Young Justice character sheets still have this commented-out note at the top: "Character portraits should be perfectly square and exactly 300 pixels wide with a a [sic] black frame that is 5 pixels on each side. The character portrait should be from promotional material (i.e. character posters) if available, if not screencaps. Portraits of characters should be replaced with high-quality ones from the newest season if available." Should we remove the whole thing, or just the part about the black frame?

Fixed Star Wars – Leia Organa.

I fixed Star Wars – Yoda, Star Wars – Obi-Wan Kenobi, and two of the three images on Star Wars – Han Solo (Character Sheet), but I can't find the Solo image. It was originally added by ~ChipGoffOfROR; do you remember where you found it?

This is the closest I could find myself.

I edited the image of Solo Han from the cover of this album. At the time it was one of the only clear publicity shots of Alden's Han I could find.

Thanks, I swapped in a version without the black border. I also fixed the images on Star Wars – Darth Maul, Star Wars – Count Dooku, and the unmasked Vader pic on Star Wars – Anakin Skywalker.

I now took care of Star Wars – Padmé Amidala, Star Wars – Separatist Military, Star Wars – The Sith Order, and Star Wars – Darth Vader and Servants.

Mind if I replace the armored image in the Prequel Trilogy folder on Star Wars – Boba Fett with this? It's less dark and looks better square.

Star Wars – Dathomir and Star Wars – Resistance Heroes have been taken care of. I think I'll tackle The Maze Runner next. Forgotten Jedi has fixed a lot of Star Wars character images too: thanks for that. I also fixed Supernatural: Sam Winchester and Supernatural: Dean Winchester, which had borders added in 2014 even though no other Supernatural character images have them that I can see.

Should I revert it? I kind of prefer it to not also have the dog in the picture.

~Forgotten Jedi, could you please not change Star Wars character images besides replacing the ones with black borders? I saw you replaced the Master Codebreaker on Characters.Star Wars Criminals and multiple images on Characters.Star Wars The Hutt Clan with no explanation, both of which I already replaced with images without black borders. I don't think we're enforcing the 300x300 pixel rule anymore. On the Hutt Clan page, Sutha and Salacious B. Crumb's images were already 300x300 (well, Sutha's was 299x299, but that's just because of a bug with the image uploader) but you replaced them, among others, just to make minor changes in framing. You also changed Rappertunie's image from this◊ to this◊; I think the new one is too dark.

I think we should try to keep to the 300x300 standard on the Star Wars character pages just for consistency's sake. Makes the pages look nicer/formatted better IMO, but you're right, the difference between 299 and 300 isn't noticeable so I'll avoid altering it in the future.

As for a few of the images that I changed, I switched the Master Codebreaker's image to one from the movie instead of a posed promotional picture, as I think that showing the characters actually in-universe is better. I think I replaced the Crumb one because the framing was off? I don't think he was really centered if I recall. For Rappertunie, the one I uploaded gives a better look at his face as he is looking up a bit more. I just checked the brightness of his scene on Disney+, and it is actually in between those two images, so neither one is wholly accurate.

If you don't mind, there are a few images I'd like to change on the Trade Federation page: I have images of Rune Haako and Daultay Dofine from the actual film and not posed promotional images ready to go, as well as a 300x300 image of OOM-9 that's less blurry around his head.

Could you post the pictures here first? For minor characters, sometimes promotional pictures are the clearest view of them.

On Star Wars – Rogue One, Stordan Tonc and Serchill Rostok's images look too dark. May I replace them with these images from Star Wars Card Trader?

I removed the black borders from the images on Star Wars – Other Force-Users and Beings. All the images are the same except for the Force Priestesses, which now shows all of them◊ instead of just one.◊

Scoutstr 295 added an image of the live-action Cad Bane from The Book of Boba Fett with a black border to Star Wars – Bounty Hunters and Mercenaries: Republic Era, apparently unaware that we don't want them anymore. I've sent them a message informing them about the decision.

Do I need permission to replace black border images?

If you're straight-up replacing the image with its borderless equivalent, there's no need to ask.

What if I were to pitch a better image that isn’t just a border less equivalent? Would that go through here or image pickin?
