Per Ask The Tropers, this thread will be used to reduce the number of old, poorly written drafts on the Trope Launch Pad. We don't want to discuss on the drafts themselves because that will bump them and mix them with active proposals.
Sandbox for the project: Trope Launch Pad Discard Project
Sandbox for discarded drafts but viable ideas: Trope Idea Salvage Yard
The first sandbox page above contains drafts proposed in the thread that are still pending and drafts that we've decided to leave alone, either with no action or a bump.
The second sandbox page is for awful drafts but viable ideas. According to moderators, badly written but interesting/tropeworthy drafts should remain on the TLP. Rather than allow low-effort drafts to clog TLP, though, the salvage yard was opened to keep just the ideas behind them, in one place.
On this thread, we will mention which drafts we think are unworkable, add enough bombs, and discard (nuke) them. Discarding requires at least 5 bombs. Among the features of "unworkable" drafts:
- There have been no edits for a very long time, or at all
- The draft is low-effort, containing atrocious spelling and grammar and/or little to no examples, e.g. NEVER saw THAT coming (!), Nut-Chuks
- The draft was seemingly created so the sponsor could complain
- The topic is People Sit on Chairs, Too Rare to Trope, a search query created by mistake, etc. and therefore not tropeworthy
- The topic is already sufficiently covered by one or more tropes or is a duplicate of a better-written TLP draft
- The draft is problematic in other ways, such being closely tied to a page that has been historically problematic, e.g. Fetish Fuel, Complete Monster
- There's no discussion currently occurring in the comments to improve the proposal
If we decide to discard a draft after discussion via this thread, whoever does so must provide the discard reason in the comment section of the draft, for transparency's sake. Those looking at the discards section won't think it was nuked for no reason.
Also, check out the sister project, Trope Adoption Drive, where good drafts put Up for Grabs or abandoned can be grabbed, given a bit more improvement, and launched.

I'd restore them, and post comment that it was decided here to mothball them. (They'll get bumped to the top of the list, and who knows, perhaps even someone decides to adopt them.)

I vanished for a while, but I came back temporarily. I was taking a look at Page 5 to see if anything on that page didn't get documented on the Sandbox page, and I found myself wondering about these drafts...
- Mid-Dialogue Sidenote: Low-effort stub accused of being covered already. Do We Have This One?? Perhaps Mamet Speak or Seinfeldian Conversation covers it...
- It's A Rental: WarJay doesn't know what this is attempting to trope, but I have a guess. There's a scene in Lilo And Stitch where Nani apologizes for kicking and scuffing the social worker's fancy black car, offering to pay for the damage. He says it's a rental. Trouble is, does the car being a rental make the situation better or worse? I would guess that there would be extra fees to be paid if the car was returned in worse condition than it was at the beginning of its rent.
- Fax The Original Over: DracMonster says there are only two examples, both are intentional gags. Probably too rare to trope. It was already nuked by the time I revisited it. But I'm curious if a name change to "Fax Machines Are Teleporters" and a long wait with periodic bumping (I like to call that kind of wait slow-cooking) will gather enough examples to make this salvageable?
About "It's a Rental".
Rental Car Abuse is a thing. A thing that needs more wicks. It only has 9.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576I bombed and nuked Humans Are Vanilla for being covered by Humans Are Average, and I bombed and nuked It's A Rental for being confusing and most likely covered by Rental Car Abuse.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.- Ask a Busy Mother: It could be an okay advertising trope, but the discussion didn't go anywhere and very little effort was put into the draft.
- Puzzle Character: Hm, interesting concept... but there is only one character, and the analysis is not actually very fair to the character. But I do like the concept for a trope about a complicated character whose actions are almost impossible to predict.
Edited by XFllo on Apr 27th 2019 at 3:24:11 AM
I was looking at Construction brought up on page 7. Tabs said it has a really long description, only four examples. Good concept, but don't we have this one? Hasn't been touched since 2013. Also somehow has two hats.
The draft reminds me of SugarWiki.Better Than It Sounds, but that page is a "just for fun" game. Do we have anything closer to the concept than that?
Entertainingly Boring — I'm pretty sure this is The Same, but More Specific to The Bore, so I've added a bomb.
Music Mash-Up: I agree with Crossover-Enthusiast that this draft is a magnet for zero context examples in the style of Web Links Are Not Examples. However, I tentatively disagree with Crossover-Enthusiast about whether this is sufficiently different from Medley. If I correctly understand what Medley is, then I think the draft is The Same, but More Specific. I've added my bomb for the Web Links Are Not Examples reason.
Egotistical Speedster drove Crossover-Enthusiast to remark We Have This... I Swear..., so I asked Trope Finder — Do We Have This One? and left a comment on the draft saying that I asked.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Someone just started a draft called "Paranoid Thriller"...four times. Thought of bringing this to see how it should proceed.
Well, this one's the one that got the first development. The other three remain unmodified.
- According to the answer on my Trope Finder question, Speed Demon is a younger TLP draft that covers the same topic as Egotistical Speedster. It seems like it's either about to assimilate or has already assimilated the older draft.
- Sex addict: One-sentence stub draft. Yes, We DO Have This One: Anything That Moves; Really Gets Around; Extreme Omnisexual. I bombed it.
Bombed the three duplicate unmodified drafts.
4tell0life4 bumped Light-Dimming Attack with nothing added. I see potential, but... Woof. I'm gonna fix the links and mark the ZCEs. Original owner hasn't edited it since 2013.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99ยขIs it safe to assume that we can put all the drafts listed under "Hat Counts" in Malady's March 10 post in the "mothball" folder of Sandbox.Trope Launch Pad Discard Project? I would have done it myself but I can't copy-paste the markup.
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.I think so. I can't copy-paste the markup, either. Maybe it's only a TLP thing? That's a lotta links to copy by hand...

Try viewing the source for the page, then some specific find-and-replaces?

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Region Specific Continuity is one of my old TLP's but it's from an account I don't even remember having had, so I can't discard it myself. It seems too niche so it's better off discarded.
- Done, now just need to remove any dupes. ... And there are none.
And alphabetized.

- Xfllo thinks The Mona Lisa Does Not Work That Way is fixable, so I listed it in the mothball folder.
- Kimono As Modern Fashion: Is this a trope?
- Cops 'n Clubbers: Bombed for Yes, We DO Have This One — Lawman Baton. With five bombs and four hats, should we pile on four more bombs before nuking or just nuke it already?
- Why was Evil Union nuked? I thought we agreed to mothball it?
- 1,000 Comic Milestone: Yes, We DO Have This One — Milestone Celebration already has a folder for webcomics. Is that folder big enough to warrant its own page or not?

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Cops n Clubbers looks like it was just straight out launched under another name so the draft's done with
Double Barreled Pump Action Shotgun, I think, is about unrealistically portrayed firearms. Supposedly the title is a self-reference, but I don't know anything about guns.
I forgot if Basara-kun is part of the discard project. I can restore Evil Union.
Does Region Specific Continuity mean a single media property has different in-universe story events and timelines depending on where the work was released? Maybe they just qualify as separate work series.
re: Double-Barreled Pump-Action Shotgun, the last comment on it is:
so it looks like the authors intent was to trope modified firearms?
i could also see it being a missing supertrope to all the tropes we have about guns being portrayed inaccurately, and a subindex of Guns and Gunplay Tropes. stuff like Every Bullet is a Tracer, Bizarre and Improbable Ballistics, Bottomless Magazines, etc. although i feel like Hollywood Gunplay would be a better name for that.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!Mothball/Salvage list candidates:
- Pain in the Legs (formerly Legony): injury and pain in the leg(s).
- Suffering the Insufferable:
- Xfllo says: combination of Bunny-Ears Lawyer and Insufferable Genius and may be covered by both, but this seems a very common pattern and extremely prevalent combination — tropeworthy?
- I say: Draft also has a dash of Karma Houdini. I looked on the Trope Launch Pad Discard Project page and I see it's already been sorted into the Mothball folder.
Undecided:
- Hooker Psychologist: Do We Have This One? Is this distinct enough from Wisdom from the Gutter to stand on its own as a Sub-Trope, or not? How does Brains and Bondage relate?
- Western Wedding Dress:
- Xfllo says: solid trope, solid description, needs examples.
- I disagree on the solidity, the comments are full of confusion wondering how similar or different the draft is from Fairytale Wedding Dress, with one troper suggesting taking Fairytale Wedding Dress to Trope Repair Shop.
Western Wedding Dress has about as much meaning as White Collar Worker. It could be a trope, but much like the latter, it's probably going to attract examples of People Wearing White Wedding Dresses. I'm on the side of discarding.
- Costumes Go Together
- potential subtrope of Coordinated Clothes
- I'd be willing to adopt this draft and try to get it launched, but I don't feel like putting the hard work into it for now if there's a chance it will get discarded
- ideas?
- in case you think it's not needed, I'd be also perfectly okay with discarding the draft (provided examples would be moved to the existing trope page)

Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal just had a spat of life after being dormant for a few months. Tried giving it folder control and it just fused into the example header.
